Why did GW remove Marbo? Copyright infringement? Also, what other cool/named characters did they take out that you'd like to see brought back?

There's no copyright infringement involved. It's a clear parody of Stallone/Rambo which is totally okay. That being said, he's been removed for whatever reason, along with Sergeant Bastonne, Al'Raheim, and Chenkov. They didn't have plastic models available for any of them which I think is probably the reason why, but it's still a huge bummer.

I think Marbo got removed because they lost rights on a lot of things as of late, probably got sewed by Stalone as well... lol
As for characters id like to return, the obvious answer is Doomrider. But that will never happen, because in a Science Fiction Fantasy world where aliens eat babies, daemons strip flesh from peoples faces and kids sell their souls for video games, where tyranic governments rule and show what the world currently, will become in 10-15 years in terms of politics, we cant have a guy standing on top of a motorcycle while hes riding it because it sets a bad example for kids (Apparently thats GWs prime source of income and their prime demographic)
Sex drugs and rock N roll are bad kids. But murder and genocide are negotiable.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

He told GW they could only use him if his full power was represented in his TT rules, which because no-one plays 5,000,000 point games was kind of problem for them.

They didn't remove Marbo from the Guard Codex, they removed the Guard Codex from Marbo.
Or perhaps he's still in there, he's just infiltrated so well that no one's found him yet.
There's also a theory he'll be coming back in the next book, now that Gargantuan Creatures are included in codexes as standard....

They kept in some models with only metal models, like Harker, Pask, Straken, Wyrdvances, Primars psykers, Rough Riders, and plenty of suppoer models (snipers, officers, etc.).
I'm not sure its related to the model, but it could have been a name they couldn't copyright...

You have to soak the pages in lemon juice and then dry it out and hold it up to a black light to see Marbo's stats and costs.

he was likely removed to boil down the guards special characters list. nobody else has as many hq choices as them and it was likely down just to keep them down and busy working instead of publishing books and putting out models

True, but in 5th he was an Elite Choice, and from what I read of his stats a rather cool one, especially with his Demo Charge. Sad ecause while he could probably get killed easily in shooting, I think he'd make a good addition to the current Guard codex, giving them some maneuverability and a decent assaulty character.

How I miss turning things into squigs, and watch those guard players go full marbo style at the enemy Hq's...

The wonderful (personal) irony here is when a friend was starting IG and I told him to include Marbo (he'd just read Storm of Iron) to represent Guardsman Hawke. I got some funny looks as there was no such profile in his codex. Turns out the page where Marbo was was stuck together. True story.

Are you saying that Guardsman Marbo is missing? Dead perhaps? Slain by the enemy? HERESY!

Marbo is actually in the guard codex, all you have to do is add together all the words of the unit entries, translate them to fake 40k Latin, then into Sylvester Stallone speech, then back to English. It's actually a really great entry, and I can't believe more players haven't found it.

Sort of.
A little while ago, GW took a company called 'Chapterhouse Studios' to court over various claims of copyright infringement.
One of the more hilarious things to come out of that court case was a claim from GW that all of their ideas come entirely from their games designer's heads, with no outside influences whatsoever.
Sly Marbo was just slightly embarrassing in light of that claim, and (surprise!) was rendered absent with no explanation when the Guard codex was next revised.

Never understood why they didn't just rename him as a forward operative or ranger. IG players could have a unit they like and the codex would be less suck.
