Ok so I threw together another BurnaBuggy yesterday, so I could use 2 plus a squadron of rokkit buggies against some nids. Ill say, against squishy targets, these buggies are great for supporting a trukk mobs assault. Then later that night I used them against some Chaos, and they didnt fair so well, they burned up about half a squad and then the Champs plasma pistol took them both down. But they looked good anyways. But I did change the tube placement on the first buggy, it looked weird sticking out the side so far, so some new cuts and an adjustment and it looks better.
Also heres an update on my trukks Ive built out of old ass rhinos. I wanted them to look like they were rhinos at one point, but I didnt want to do the typical *heres rhino, now it has ork things on it, now its trukk* I still need to paint some of the plates yellow so it matches the battlewagons and my overall color scheme.

cool stuffs, what are the wheels on the burna wagons from?

9217
Post by: KingCracker

The fronts are from a dollar store toy that was like an offroad truck thingy. You pull back on it and it races across the floor. Sadly, I havnt been able to find that anywhere for about 6 months, which sucks because the wheel size was PERFECT for 40k . The bigger ones in back are another dollar store find, I can still find those, but as you can tell, they are rather large and only really appropriate on a buggy, as buggies tend to have larger wheels on the back.

So Im now set on trying to find a replacement of the front wheels, I used them from bikes, to cannons to these. Oh well

Nice conversions. I really like the landspeeder buggies. I think the tank could use some more armour plates though, in between the cockpit and the tread casing.

Nice stuff.
Like the burna buggies - but they're both too similar Also like what you did with the rhino, but think it needs something more at floor level between the cab and back.

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Yea I could put some plates in between the cab and the tracks, at least on the others as they arnt even painted yet. That one will just stay that way. The buggies, will look a tad different once I add some personal Orkyness to them. The way I see it, if an Ork can afford a buggy/bike/trukk whatever, they are going to add stuff to them that says "Dis iz me, an dis iz howz I krump fings" So yea right now, they are similar, but thats because its landspeeders with tires and Orks in the pilot seat, not to much to make them different currently
Thanks for the comments so far

Has anyone gotten to make any saves against it yet?

Post by: KingCracker

Ok its been awhile since Ive done anything. Family, get togethers, Health junk, you name. BUT Last weekend I went over to the giants house, he has a range set up over there and blew the gak out of some stuff. So I was staring at the pile of shell casings and whatnot, and had a thought, 12 gauge shells would make a great platform for some killa kans. Its perfect too, because for some reason Im a big fan of the old school Kans that looked like they were made from a trash can or a big ol water pipe.
So anyways, I spent the week throwing ideas around on how I should build them. I looked all over at $ stores and the like for legs and bits and whatsits. I couldnt find legs at all.....so I looked for wheels, I have a perfect set, but its the only set and I want to cast them so I wont ever run out, and Im making 9 Kans so that was a dead end. Then I remembered seeing someone on DAKKA make some Kans with crab looking legs, so I gave it a shot and thought, hell some armor and itll look great.

So, I gots da Meks ta'geva an banged sum metal scraps ta'geva and had maself a great time!

Im planning on magnetizing the DCCW as well as the guns I build. That way when my opponent scores a weapon destroyed, I can just pop the arm/weapon off AND be able to use different guns as well. Versatility folks! So the first pick Im just holding the DCCW up so you can get an idea of it, still think I might put some cables going from the body to the legs, but I dunno yet, that might make them too busy looking

And a size comp of my round Dread and my BigChoppa Warboss.

You kidding? Inv saves dont exist yet

Looks good + cheap = win I'd say some cabling for the legs would be good, shouldn't be too busy and will help to break up the shape a little.

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Yea now that Im looking at the pictures, it doesnt look so bad, I bet the cables would look great on there, sides I have to wire in the rokkits on it anyways. So now that Ive got the base idea down, time to pump out 8 more

OOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooook well the misses wanted to watch some chick flick she got for herself, which left me with 2 decisions, force myself through another chick flick, or get off my ass an GET TA BUILD'N!!!!!

  So dats wut I did.

Mashed some more scraps together to get the 2nd of 9 built. Im wanting to make sure every Kan is very individualized, so stretching that over 9 Kans will be tough, but this is the start, so its easy. I gave this lil fella a wrecking ball. Still plan on magnetizing the weapons but for right now, Im just using the pin method minus glue to hold these on. I have to say, this one Im really digging, it was also much easier/faster to build, as Ive got the concept down, so the guess work is pretty much gone.
Anywho, enjoy and C&C as always.

If you look hard on this close up, youll see some rivets, most of mine are from some clear container, so they are HARD to see unless its painted
And lastly, its a bit blurry but you can at least tell the weapons are off, so I wont be forgetting any weapon destroyed on these

Yeah it does look like you're getting into character a little early...I didn't realise Halloween called for Method Acting Great to see dollar store randomness - this is why you have to love Orks - you couldn't do this kind of thing with any other army and get away with it. Sadly I don't have anything like a random dollar store near me Anyway, great conversions, can't wait to see them with a lick o' paint - subscribed

I really like those Buggies KC. What is it about that damn shape that makes such a great buggy? Seriously, the last 2 tabs I closed before coming to this one had Land Speeder Buggies as well, and all in different flavors. I'm really digging your Kanz as well. You've seen from the Ork Vehicle Comp. that I'm building a squad of my own. I have to say, I was stuck on what to do for the arms. Then I saw yours. Do you mind if a borrow your sprue arms idea?
Also, what are you doing for bases on those? Since mine are all from scratch, I'm missing the bases and yours look perfect. I was planning on just getting some from eBay, but 3 bases for $4 multiplied by the 11 60mm bases I need for my army equals more than I've spent on anything else for the army....

Thanks for your answers, and keep us posted with updates.

Firstly - Hurray a subscriber Well I promised once I got the first squadron done Id paint them up. So I might prime them tonight, if not tomorrow, which means Ill probably start painting tomorrow as well. So stay tuned!

Secondly - Landspeeders just look fast, and when you stick wheels on them, they get that "racecar" stance. Perfect platform in my book And of course you can steal the sprue arms, I use sprue for all kinds of things. But when it comes to arms, make sure you cut equal lengths and glue the fat sides together, that will give you the proper thickness.

The bases oddly enough I got from playdoh cans. A dollar store sells some cheap ol off brand, and its almost exactly the same size. The only difference is the playdoh lid is a little thicker then a dread base, other wise they are the same size, so its perfect.

Yo dawg, I heard you liked kanz....

But seriously, thanks for letting me snag your ideas. My own squad of Kanz and both of my Dredz have been on hold while I tried to find some appropriate plastic stock for their DCCWs . I really don't know why I didn't think to use sprue. I can't wait to see some paint on your Kanz. Maybe it will kick start me into finishing mine.

*bows* I do what I can. Dont feel bad, most people dismiss the sprue as just throw away. I never toss my sprues away, Ive got one of my AOBR boxes packed with sprue Well right now the bases are drying in the sun and nearly down, so Ill be putting some paint to kanz here shortly. Ill go out and take a pic of the bases so far.....so uh...brb I guess Ok dead camera, so Ill post that in like 2 hours lol

Ok well this one will be short and simple for now. The camera died, and to kill time while it charged, my nephew and my son and I played a 3 way 1k point game, so that killed all my free painting time, but it was super fun. Anywho, based and black under coat. As your reading this, Im outside painting these little buggers.....so wish me luck, as Im not completely sure where Im going with the paint other then metal/rust/yellow

Classic Kans there KC, I'm loving the retro feel you found there, plus it looks like the Mek let his Grots put them together on the fly, which to me is even funnier. Love them.

Thanks for the compliment on the Kans. Oddly enough, I wasnt even going for that feel either, they just kindda went together that way. Thanks all for the comments. I figured my blog needed some painted works on here, everything until the painted kans was just WIPs , and looked a bit drab in here. Dunno what the hell Im going to start next. I might bang out some more kans, as those are pretty useful to an Ork shooty horde, like I seem to play alot. But Im not sure yet, I could work on finishing those burna buggies, or get off my ass and buy some magnets and finish building my SkullHamma. Decisions decisions I need to get something rockin though, Im gunna have a couple boxes of Lootas/burnas dropping on my door step in about a week

Ok so did yet another repaint on my army colors. The previous colors just took me WAY to long to get anything done, and they werent very BadMoonz looking. So I went with black boots/shirts and dark grey pants with the usual yellow accents here and there. They still need to be based but Im done working on them for right now (mainly I need to get more basing material)
I think they turned out well enough. I have to remember not to get overly picky like when I paint Nobz and HQs , which is hard. And finally a sneak peak at my custom character for our Killteams. We all decided we needed to make a SC for KillTeams that fit in the rules but was special. Ive worked out some rules for him but they are somewhere in the proposed rules section and Im to lazy to dig em out. Im pretty much done with his skin tone and the rifle, but his cloak is just pissing me off. Ive whited it out a couple times so far, nothing seems to be working Maybe some camo or something? Anywho here it is thus far, I present

Looks like a fairly quick scheme for the boyz, possibly a bit more yellow needed? I'm thinking maybe do a few more helmets yellow just to help ram home that Bad Moon Bling factor Looks good as is though Like the sniper, camo sounds good for his cloak, what where the 2 schemes you already tried?

36940
Post by: Anvildude

Do some helmets in Gold instead.

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Gold helmets? That just doesnt make sense, Flashgits maybe but not boyz. I plan on adding some checks on the helmets as soon as I get one of those super thin marker/pens, as my hands arnt nearly steady enough to pull that off. So Once fully completed and based their will be a tad bit more yellow and the bases to help make the colors pop, but as I stated earlier, I dont want to over due the stuff on the boyz, because it takes me so long to paint anyways, and I like running alot of shoota boyz. So half a day to get 10 fully completed times how many boyz Ive got left On the snipa, Ive so far tried solid colors. So really I think its just the solid colors not doing it. I might try tiger stripe camo. Ive never done it for one, and I think it would just look cool and be Orky having tiger stripe camo in Urban settings

30344
Post by: monkeytroll

Sakura Pigma micron pens. Just the job for those pesky checks Tiger stripe should be fun.

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Yep, those pens are what I was thinking of as well. It took me long enough to get the yellow on their, Im sure as hell not gunna screw it up with black paint Today I have a bday party, so sadly, no work today. Tomorrow though, I think Im going to work on my DeffJets (koptas) and finally get them completed and painted. And MAYBE while those are drying I might do some work to my burna buggies as well, those look awfully dull and in need of more Orky.

  Till then folks

Remember, Bad Moonz like Dags better than Checks, though. So tiny triangles are more Moony.

Thats true, and those are easier to actually paint. And I put dags on the back plate of one of the boyz in that mob. And to do those I dont need a pen Now thats feedback I like folks, helpful, useful and easy to accommodate

I'm also considering robbing your idea of 40k ork as a halloween costume, my only worry is that my son already loves my orks and I reckon if I'm not careful I'll find him painting himself green and saying I'z, diz and waaagh alot.

  cools.
what are you going to do with the other gun bits (that hold da gunz)

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Well the dealy on the top is for the cannon upgrade, because I figure, why not take a fething kannon! Ammirite? Just under the suparokkits Im putting the TL rokkits, its a free upgrade over bigshootas, its kind of a no brainer to me. They will be sponson like and look like flakk cannons, but count as the TL rokkits. Thats it for the weapons. You CAN take a total of 3 suparokkits, but 1) I ran out of room, and 2) I have this weird thing about odd numbers But yea, if you stretch the LR a bit, you can get away with it being a skullhamma, really they dont have an actual model for one, so the sky is the limit as far as that goes, but make it around a baneblade size and you should be good. Mine is only only a little shorter then a baneblade but it makes up for that by being really tall and just as wide. So yea, make a skullhamma! Id enjoy seeing that build for sure

As always KC, your work is awesome. I love the originality in your stuff. You make Da Boyz proud!

Got a few questions for you.

1.Do you make a sketch at all of the stuff your going to kustomize or just kinda wing it?
 2. What do you use for all of the rivets?
 3. Is the skullhamma an apoc only unit?
 4. Mayonnaise or Miracle whip?

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Well many thanks, many thanks!
Got a few answers for you then

  1. My drawing skills are on par with my sons, and he just started 1st grade if thats any help But Its a little more then winging it. Ill get a rough idea of what I want to pull off, then literally just get a pile of bits and random bobs together and have at it. It helps to be free flowing when doing Ork stuff IMO , because sometimes something wont fit or work right or a plan just crumbles, and saying screw it Ill go that way then, leads to a better over all model.... sometimes. Other times Ill just hack something vital off and say, ok, its screwed beyond repair, lets put it back together.

  2. I have a small hole punch I got from the craft section at the hobbylobby. Then I normally use that clear hard plastic that you can buy bakery cookies in from the grocery store? Ill cut the tops/bottoms off of it if its flat, sand it down (it helps with glue adhesion) and space out, while punching them out by the hundreds

  3. Yes its suppose to be APOC only, but IMO , its really pretty balanced for its points cost. Like anything if your friends/opponents are ok with you using one in a normal game, then youd be fine to use it. Its around 400ish points depending on upgrades, has 3 structure points, so its tough, and can do some damage, but really, it has that famous weak Ork rear armor, so a smart player, or hell a lucky player even, would make you a nice 400pt crater 4. Mayo. Definitely

No WAI! Miraclewhip is only good in......deviled eggs......deviled eggs has that right? Either way, thats it. Mayo all the way. Im starting a mayo only convention....just you wait!
Well as far as whats left on the Skullhamma, Ive got to finish work on the counts as TL rokkits, Ive got the gun barrles mocked up, and Ive got an idea of where I want to go with it, but the thing thats really biting me in the ass, is the ammo magazines. Im wanting to have magazines on each barrel that has the ammo inside exposed, and so far....they just arnt looking the way I want. Might start over on those or something.

Anywho, after those are sorted out and I get them working on a swivel, adding some random sheets of bolted on metal and general Ork stuff, the exhaust, and lastly Id say 100-200 rivets and itll be ready for a base coat! Man itll be nice having a cannon that isnt see through

Im going to play then as TL rokkits, as its hard to tell scale wise since the rest of the tank is huge, but they are pretty large, so making them the standard BigShootas seems way to off lol.

Pretty cool One minor suggestion though: most ork guns seem to be reinforced or have some kind of muzzle flash enhancer; smething I'd consider for the sponsons - even if they'll be firing rokkits! Anyway, lovely work!

Yanno what, thats a pretty solid idea and that would take me all of like 2 minutes to pull off, and best of all, I have tubing that fits right snug over the sponson tubes I used as well. I like where your head is at And yea, Mayo does go good on more then just a sandwhich. For example, french fries, that stuff is just delicious on french fries OH YEA! Wow, its been.......too long since I did any Ork mekin. So lately Ive been in the mood to get some things done. And I figured Id tackle making an Ork Flakk trukk, since flyers are going to be a major thing in 6th, and if I decide to actually play 6th, Ill need SOMETHING to take those hookers down in a blaze of glory, and what better way then a cool ass Flakk Trukk?

So long ago I made 4 trukks real quick for a game. They all pretty much looked just like this one here
See, nothing too crazy and rather boring. But since I pretty much, NEVER use trukks anymore, besides a random Nob/Meganob bomb in a trukk. So I figured Id make 2 anyways, into FlakkGun trukks. So I took it apart some, and so far just have the basis of it plotted out, but so far, a huge improvement me thinks
Ill be working more on this fella over the next few days, so at least, you lot get to enjoy some Orkyness.

Nice! I really like the half trakk look, definitely a serious improvement over the original. Looking forward to seeing the finished product-- With a few more bitz here and there like you said, that thing will really look awesome!
Especially with a big ass flakkgun on the back! Also for that, it's relatively easy to find TL autocannon turret bits on ebay, you may want to try that. With a little modification you can stack em side by side, then just worry about the seat for the gunner and all that.

Well I figured Id take a break from the Flakktrukk for now, as I need to think more on how to mount the guns to the trukk. I got lucky and found a neat little swivel base from some lego thing my son had long forgotten about and its PREFECT for sticking 4 guns on, not to mention I can still get away with sticking a gunner in the middle.

The last few days though, thanks to 6th edition, Ive realized Im going to be taking a Bikerboss once more as well as a bunch of MANz for some MegaNob kick. Ive already got a counts as MegaBoss, but Ive decided Im going to take a biker boss and a MEga boss with some MANz to see how they do. Sure I might go back to a BigMek w/KFF , but since the cover save is only a 5+ on everything, Im not so sure its a must have anymore. So far, Im thinking Ill have a Bikerboss, Megaboss with 1 or 2 units of MANz , and some burnas as well, mainly because they are only more badass now then before. So 6th seems to be REALLY shaking things up from 5th, my beloved rokkit buggies, arnt so awesome anymore, so those will probably be shelved for at least till the new codex (Praying to Gork that its a good dex )

What about the viewers out there? Whats on your workbench since 6th has left everything on its head

I am working on repainting my boyz. They where evil sunz. Now I am going with Bad moons. I was planning on getting several meganobs and with 6th that confirms it. I will be making me some new trucks. The only ones I have now are the old "Gorka Morka" style.

That truck looks incredibly orky man, good job! As you say It just needs a few more rivets to be perfect, so hurry and glue them on and sow us a few pics!
Biker bosses rule in 6th ed? Awesome! haven't had a chance to look through the new rulebook yet.... how fitting that I'll be getting back to my scratch biker soon
9217
Post by: KingCracker

Yea bikers are pretty badass now mainly because you ALWAYS use their modified toughness even for ID . So yea, Nob bikers wont die from missiles and other str8 weapons, and the bikerboss is T6, so you can now laugh at dreads as you give them the equivalent of a PK anal fisting. ALSO they changed how you assault vehicles, I dont remember it exactly as I only breezed through my brothers book the other day, but basically there isnt a 6 to hit when they move X inches. I THINK it was something like a 4+ is the worst to hit, I cant remember exactly but yea you can now assault vehicles and laugh.

So yes, Bosses on bikes is where its at. Speaking of, Ive been working on mine and heres some pics. Im wanting to add some edged to the rear of the bike, it gives me somewhere for patch panels and rivets, and obviously thats always a plus for Orks. But I feel like its still missing something other than that. Ideas?
And for cheap and fun, I decided to make meganobz from AOBR nobz. Since they are cheap obviously. So to do it differently, I decided gak loads of armor plates and big ol shields would do the trick. Still working on these guys as well, but they are pretty much there other then the shields I think

36940
Post by: Anvildude

On the Meganobz- I think the shields just need to be thicker- that is, thicker material. What they have there looks alright... FER A WEEDY BEEKY! You need Slabs! Chunks! Plates of metal that they ripped off of a Land Raider with their bare Powerklaws!

And the Bikerboss looks flash, man. That Powerklaw is just ace. Needs more trophies, though, and I think what he's missing is something on the front to let him RAM stuff.

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Yea the boss does need more trophies, but Im kindda scratching my head at the moment as to where to put em. I dunno, Ill mess around with some ideas and see what comes about. I personally think Bosses need a gak load of trophies just cause they are the head honcho.

46982
Post by: MrMerlin

That huge power fist on the biker boss looks kick ass! However, I'll have to point out that there are still mouldlines on it Putting shields on nobs is a great idea, but yes, you need thicker material.....

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Well holy gak.........there IS still some mold lines on it....and under the klaws....what a gakky spot to forget to demold lol. OK Ill have to get creative on how to fix this problem. Also looking at the shields, they do look a bit thin, see what I can do about that, even if I have to just rip them off and redue bigger ones, thats fine, as its only 2 shields so far

46982
Post by: MrMerlin

I'd rip them off and make a few identical ones. I guess if you glue three of them on top of each other you're fine

This is brilliant stuff, KC!
The rust on the warboss is very well done. Is it bad that I saw the clear gubbin on the front, and thought it was his epic shot glass? Its 10:45AM here and I'm already thinking about starting the July 4th celebratin' early! For trophies you could give him an epic pole on the back of the bike, you know, for impaling crap. I need to see that guntrukk all riveted. And that cattle catcher thingamabobber on the front is great, really ties it all together.

Oki Doki. Well I hashed out my Warbosses trophy rack. Its a bit hard to see everything since its all black, but Im sure you can make it out for now anyways. Also better shots of his robo arm of doom!!! And for kicks, I decided to work on the last 2 Deffkoptas that he is going to be riding with into battle, when these are done, Ill have 5 built. Only problem, is now Im going to rip the rokkits off the other 3 I made previously, and swap those with the stock TL BigShootas. Im thinking 15 TL str5 shots will do a number on a unit before they assault. Also Im adding 1 buzzsaw into the group, so they can at least do some damage when they get stuck in.

OK enough rattling, heres some pics
           And the "koptas"
       Automatically Appended Next Post: P.S,

Goresaw wrote:How did you make the Turbine for your deff koptaz? I've been wanting to make some turbines for some nob bikers (in my quest to play units which will infuriate my opponents and make them not play with me ever again).
Well the turbines were much easier then I thought, thankfully, because the last time I tried turbines on something else, it looked horrible. But these are the end of the Krazy glue brand tubes, the "rotor" inside is the end of missiles Ive had laying around. But those would be as easy to make as a glass of water. Some tube, little fins from plasticard and something roundish for the top of the tube. So basically, make a tiny missile and presto, rotor. Then the exhaust parts is just random tubing.

And thanks for the comments on my work so far. I seem to have a knack for converting deffkoptas, into deffrandom flying vehicles of cool stuff

BY THE NINE!!!! er..............GORK n MORK! While being a tag along at a hardware store today, I actually found some FLAT yellow spray paint. Best part is, I think its close enough to a respectable Badmoons yellow! And its only $3ish. Now Ive looked on and off for MONTHS for something like that, becuase Im a cheap ass and dont like paying full hobby price for my hobby and never found it. But today.... PAYDIRT! Even if not, I know of a can of gloss yellow that is eye melting yellow, that I could simply matte varnish it, which even then all together its like $7 for the yellow and matte varnish.

Just wanted to share the news. Also, been painting today, so I should have some lootas and some former AOBR boyz turned shoota boyz ready to go here soon.

Post by: KingCracker

Well, Ive decided it was time to get some paint to brush, and started the other day. Foolishly I had a couple different minis in various stages of paint, and figured "I know! Ill plop them all together and finish them all up....AND! Ive got a couple shootas in white primer too, lets get them on the table" Idiot. It was grueling to say the least. But Ive got a boat load of boyz really close to completion, and the rest of my lootas mostly painted as well AND I added some color to my BikerBoss and his entourage of deffkopptas. What was I thinking.

Anywho, they are all based, just need a highlight on the bases to make the "ground" pop, and a very few odds and ends like tubes on some lootas and such. But Im sick of looking at them currently Pics

Ive decided that Im going to name my WAAAGH! something along the lines of "Da Ghostas" Or "Da Ghosta Klan" Anywho, you get the idea. So some random boyz Ive painted a white skull on their faces and such to give them that look. So you can really zoom in and see a couple with em anyways.
And heres what Ive been working on as far as the boss and his kopta buddies
And the trophy rack for my boss. I think it REALLY turned out nicely.
So let me know whatcha all think. And which name sounds better to you lot? Im kindda leaning to Da Ghosta Klan, but Im not sold yet

Yea I was pleasantly surprised on the banner as well, Im normally not good with free hand anything. But apparently Ol shakey didnt bother me this time around Though Im thinking of repainting the head and driving arm of my boss, they just dont look that good. Infact, Im thinking of swapping heads as well, Ive got another head that would look the tits on there and is already panted nicely. Im not sure though if I want to go popping parts off this late into it. AND its got a helmet so Im not sure how the iron gob would look on there. Something for me to stir over today I guess.

Well, its been a few months since Ive done anything, so here I be, pulling triple shifts in the MekShop. Some folks in our group finally got some fliers, and I figured, no self respecting Mek would be in an army without some of his own! So I took some measurements and went ta werk!
Started with the usual pile of Wutz itz...
     Banged out a basic design.
Went through a few boyz before finding one that could handle it
And then went ta werk puttin on DAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKA and some paper thin sheet metal.......er armor

Thanks! Ive used SM backpacks for my SAG Mek I made as well. OK, well Ive been working on a totally different way of getting yellow on things, and so far, its really turning out nicely I think. Still very much WIP obviously, but I think the yellow on the Jet is done, though there is 1 spot on the right jet turbine that just isnt taking yellow in a small spot. Im going to continue to try and get that more yellow then orange, but so far, its just not taking it for some reason Oh well (you can see the spot just infront of the pilots head in the first pic) C&C folks?!? And naturally, the sun bleached out the paint in these last 2, but you still get the idea. The first pic is what the yellow REALLY looks like in person. *shakes fist at sun* AND heres a look at the repaint of GrotNob for Mr NerdFests painting comp. Ive got the yellows on em, and Im still debating weather to to try OSL on the klaw or not. I dunno, it wouldnt be hard to paint over it I guess. Thoughts?

GrotNob warms everyones heart.
Ive chipped the rest of the panels on the Jet, and have since repainted the turbine covers solid white. So now I can start the fun process of trying to match those colors back up...yippie!! Next though, while the white is drying again, Im going to be rusting the metal in the paint chips and adding rust streaks on the jet! Pretty stoked

Oh hes a sweetheart alright OK Ive got the entire plane chipped. It looks pretty damn cool with all those chips in it. So next will be rust and rust streaks, and hopefully I can color match the turbines, I think I can, at least close enough. So if I keep it up, tonight the Jet itself will be done. Then its just the pilot and the base and Ill check this fella as done

Thats just old fashioned paint work, thanks for that compliment Basically I prime everything white. black wash the metal parts, then heavy drybrush boltgun metal over that. Then mix up my orange "rusting paint" and dab it on where I need it to go. Then Ill go a slightly brighter orange here and there for some detail. Thats pretty much it. I could do a tutorial on it I spose

Ive seen a few people make Ratrod trukks and what not, and always thought, how awesome. So I decided, since Im redoing my buggies, I have to have at least 1! that is a Ratrod. Soooo heres what I bashed out and in primer. Note the rear wheels are not on permanently yet, so if they seem off from one pic to the next, that is why.

I apologize if this was asked before or already answered but where did you get the wheels for your buggies?

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Well the giant rear wheels are easy. I get them from Family Dollar, though Ive seen these trucks in other dollar stores. Anyways, the big rear ones are from a "rev and go" type truck toy. The fronts, have become tricky. A few years ago I could find tractor toys and smaller truck toys that had a couple different sized wheels that were just PERFECT for the front wheels. Now no matter where I look, I cant find the right sized wheels. Soooo luckily I have a couple wheels left that I plan on casting next year around tax time. So if your interested around that time, I could sell ya some

Post by: Gylen

Wow, dollar store toy trucks. That's a fantastic idea. I'm trying to custom build some Ork Kannons and need to find some decent wheels to start as a platform. I used the wheels that came with the model gun I used as a base but they don't look very Orkish.
3
Those rear thick wheels you were using look like they would be perfect. I probably won't be able to wait that long lol, but thank you for the fantastic idea. Dollar store toy truck wheels it is!!

Thank you! Great work btw, love it.

I dont think the wheels I have on the back would work, because they are large, Im talking slightly taller than a Space Marine on his base, and nearly as wide as a space marine. But still, dollar store it up, you might find a gold mine. My only suggestion is if you find tires you like, buy up whatever they come on in bulk, because dollar stores are notorious for not selling things very long. Again, thats how I ran into the problem with the front tires I need. Ive used them from everything from buggies, to kannons to bikes, but now Ive only 1 set left and cannot buy them Thats a sweet kannon you made BTW

I like the fact that the boyz built it as a ratrod then decided to just stick some dakka on the roof - car surfing with extra boom Nice gun Gylen, you could try adding some plates to those tyres, or maybe even just a line of rivets around them - that should orkify them nicely.

Welp its been awhile, and mostly because my camera took a pooh out of the blue leaving me no reliable way to take pics. Avatar720 and I were chatting and spit balling some ideas for a special character that would be myself in 40k . They got so good, that I HAD to jump into making the guy, and so far, I frigging LOVE it. Obviously I didnt get to really take WIP shots of Cracka being made, but hes at a near complete state, and really only needs green stuff work done and thats it. I have to fill in 1 wrist, his reposed leg, his neck and build his beard!!!

So really not TOO much work to be done, and figured Id show you lot where hes at currently. OH yea, Im also tossing around the idea of taking a grot and making it carry a crazy shoota/bigshoota for his, since no matter where I put the shoota on him, it just looked too busy.

Well Ho-lee-karap! I took a good long break from the boyz and 40k in general. Just needed time to collect my thoughts, and take a breather from the hobby. So I figured what better way to jump back into the swing of things, then with a scratch build project! Im going to end up with a pair of Stompas once Im done with this whole she bang, BUT while I was using my heat gun to shape the PVC into a stompa armored skirt.....well the blasted heat gun went nuclear and blew up in perfect Orky fashion. It was glorious. I ended up being able to shape 1 of the Stompa fronts. It doesnt look like a bunch of work, and really, I should of taken more pics of the build, Ill do that on the second one. Anywho, heres where the spanna boyz and meks left off for the day.

From the basic concept we got the feet, ankles knees and legs together and positioned.
The front armored skirting in place
  the "chest" section
And the basic part of the back wrapped.

Now nothing is finished yet, as Im going to rough up the feet and other edges, add a crap load of armor plates and rivets, build a head, engine w/smoke stacks and the weapons. So tons to do, but at least we got a solid start, and something for the boyz to work off of. Now, its not at its full height either, the "chest" section will have arms coming off it, as well as shoulder mounted platforms for guns and whatsits, and last but not least the head of course. So what youre seeing is going to have a head attached plus all the gubbins to add some inches. So itll definitely be the size of the GW stompa. Anywho, without further ado.

Some Goff rockas and Sgt. Shotgun for scale.

After this stompa I'll be building some grot tanks, then a second stompa, painting some boyz as well (no surprise there right? ) as well as finish of my custom Warboss Da King Cracka and paint. So that's a decent list to chew in for the time being

Dude, you're building a Stompa! this is gonna be GOOOOOOD! seriously of all the Orkish Warlords i know you have to be the best one for scratch building Ork vehicles! :-) I was simply astounded by the look of your planes and truks before so you can count me along for the ride on the Stompa! will it have a rather impressive scrap metal beard!?........ yeah it will.....

9217
Post by: KingCracker

Hmmmma scrap metal beard would be most epic.... but it might look out of place on a Stompa, so I'll agree to at least give it a try try thanks for the wicked compliment there, I'm now blushing and smiling like a girl I'm working out in my head how I want the TCCW to look build wise, still not sure if I'll go giant robo klaw or saw. What I'm thinking though, is make the shoulder section from sprue so it looks like weedy bars and pipes, but have several of them coming together with hydraulics and such to make the arm/shoulder look solid as a whole. Make sense? Any who, long day, I'm beat
14392
Post by: nerdfest09

Yeah i think I know what you mean, like some scaffolding bars in a skeletal frame driven by pistons and hydraulics when viewed from a distance it follows the impression of a large robotic musculature! ..... is that about right?
robotic metal beard! like it's spot welded on the sides but hangs low on the jawline with a grot hangin' off!

 BRING IT!

I've been thinking on the mighty metal beard, and maybe something like a giant iron gob, but upside down. That might just work. Again, I'm getting a little agreed of myself as I hasn't really got to the head yet.
But yea, seems like we are on the same page for the shoulder/arm section.

Post by: KingCracker

Ahhh thanks all for the comments! Yes, UNDER my home made work station is a rather pretty and very clean dining table Ive just learned that the only way to be a successful Mek one needs mountains of trash to spark the ol brain pan. If I were to put everything on my plexiglass sheet the mess goes away quick. Because my wife would murder me if I did THAT to the table Anywho. I was mocking up the cannon and thought....."fudge me....this is looking like a fishing pole trying to lift up a concrete sewer line" so I ripped stuff off, clubbed a couple meks for being "big dummehs!" and had them re work a few things. Heres where we are at currently.

  *Made in MekTown*
THERE! Now THAT looks like it would raise and lower a big ass cannon -o- doom eh?! Yea, I thought so too. I also think it shows a little more clearly how Im going to wrap the cables and such, as described to me by the BigMek in charge of da build.
"Ya seee Boss, we'z put da cablez'N fings around da BIG spool on da bottum...it go'z back 'N up to da uda spooly fing, den over to da BIG spooly fing on da front, and den...well....its makes da Kannon go "uppy downy" all klever like!"

So there you lot have it! Im still planning a bit o beautification to it and all that, but thats basically what itll look like minus the cable and the gun and all that. Hope that holds everyone over till the next time I crack the whip and get the burna boyz and mekz a choppin and weldin. Automatically Appended Next Post: Big Mek Gobsmasha wrote: Nice so far! No belly gun on this guy I think. Im thinking maybe on the next one. Not really sure as I dont exactly have er....uhm....well the exact rules for a Stompa. And with the brand new APOC rules just coming out, Ive only seen briefly on an iPad that was being shared by several people I wasnt able to really see what I can legally do to one other then the stock version. I happen to have the rules for the stompa (apoc book) and you are right, a stock stompa can't have a belly gun. They have a datasheet in a white dwarf somewhere (I have it) and perhaps on the internet, which is for a 'kustom stompa', which can have tons of options, like the belly gun and deff arsenal. Man looky here, 3 days in a row of solid work. Im enjoying this cooler weather, its making me a productive git! Now, heres a kannon lads!
My problem is.......it might just be paint, but the damn thing looks kindda.....empty if that makes sense considering its sheer size and all. But yea, missing something....maybe cables and detail and whatsits but what do you lot think? Theres got to be something I can jam on there that will bring it to life. Really all thats left for that side is running the crane cable, and filling out the shoulder section which I have to wait till I get armor plates that high up the body.

"Weeeelllll..*hocks and spits* now DAT is a moighty fine lookin kannon der Whirlygig....moighty fine indeed." The King Cracka smiles a golden toofed grin "Uh tanks Boss! Are you thinking the gun arm needs something? or the body? I have an idea for the body :-) howzabout a storm boy spread eagled splatted onto the main body? you could sand him flat to fit nicely against it as it his rokkit pack hurtled his frame with great force onto the big guy! as for the arm? hmmmm maybe some cables hanging loose and some wrapped with multiple bits of tape and rope to hold them there? you could use it to add some detailed bulk to the gubbins?

36940
Post by: Anvildude

Definitely cabling and little bits and pieces.
Think about how they'd fix bullet holes- just slap a random scrap of metal (random thickness as well) over it, and bolt, rivet or weld it on. They'd have "Fidly Bitz" all over for makin'the gubbinz go and moniterin' stuff. So maybe a bundle of branching wire going out to the barrel end, and spread around everywhere- held down with little strips of metal slapped over them.

9217
Post by: KingCracker

HMm random patches would certainly help. And you fellas made me have an idea. On the platform I could build a control panel with the wires coming out from the bottom going everywhere. The I'll have an excuse to buy a box of grots to add a few here and there, checking it and doing general.... gretchin things.
And the Stormboy idea is a great one... ignoring the fact I actually don't own a single Stormboy. That is a great idea though, and would at loads of character to boot. Gonna... I'll have to think on this one.

SO! Its been about a weekish Id say, though its hard to tell, as my grasp of time is pretty fracking terrible. To me, a story beginning with "The other day" could be 2 days ago, or 4 months ago. It happens.

Roight den said da King Cracka with a gruff voice, and an itch on his backside,Wut was all da commotion bout get'n me out ere? Boyz and Gretchin alike scurried away not wanting to take a back hand from da King Crackas mighty robotic fist.
Well Boss! I'z sum news fer ya! BigMek Whirrlygig said excitedly hopping down from a random workbench
Gazing questioningly at the little Bigmek, ............Yeaaaa? bellowed King Cracka. You know wut time it iz Whirrlygig? Dis betta be good, 'er yer gunna wish a Rokk landed on me, on da way O'ver 'ere With a grin as big as his face could muster, Ooooh yes yes yes Boss! Dis i'z gunna make you'z a HAPPY Boss! Happy indeed!!! Whirrlygig then proceeded to run past Boss King Cracka, and into the open area of his Workshop.
WE'Z GOT'Z A TITAN WEAPON BOSS! A PROPA STOMPY ONE TOO! The BigMek grot said in a voice so high, it hurt KingCrackas ears

Annnnnd the "bicep" of the TCCW
So here I am. Im still working on connecting the two together and then jamming it onto the Stompa in such a way that it stays put. Im keeping the Klaw part the way it is, so that I can open and close the Klaw, you know, for that added "EAT THIS!!" effect. The bicept will go skinny part to the shoulder, because Im going to add hydraulics on either side attaching that to the shoulder joint. Im also going to be adding hydraulics here and there at the other joints and on the klaw as well, but sadly, I only have larger tubes, and no amount of digging allowed me to find anything smaller to make them out of. So Ill have to add that to the shoping list. But there you have it, just imagine gears and chains and cabling and such on the arm, and then tremble! TREMBLE at the might that is BigMek Whirrlygig!!! Enjoy lads and lad-ets

OK Boss! Let me show ya what we'z got fer you'z shouted Whirrlygig from the top of the Stompa chassis.
First we'z had to make da Klaw part uv da arm so it wuz one smashy fing!! Not ta mention build da er.....bendy part? Whirrlygig squeaked
Dat was da easy part Boss! I know'z dis will be EXTRA stompy too, kuz it squished lotz of boyz and o'ver grots gettin da smashy part up on da Stompa!
Uhh...... King Cracka uttered but Whirrlygig kept rattling on ignoring his Boss.
And here we are'z now Boss! Da smashy bits are on, da Kannon is in KABLOOEY! stage, ready fer blow'in fings up good 'n propa! I'z even reinforced da Smashy part so'z it can smash even betta too'z! Whirrlygig pushes some buttons on a console to show King Cracka that everything works so far...
Erm...dats noice an all Gigs....but I'z dont fink da Klaw is big enough....can you'z stand next ta it so'z I can compare size wize?! King Cracka said with a devilish smile
Oh uh...suuuuuure Boss! Whirrlygig said excitedly, scampering over to the mighty Stompa Klaw.
Just then, King Cracka punched a big red button marked "!!!Dont press dis!!!" and the massive Klaw sprang into action snatching up WhirrlyGig!

HEEEEEYY!!!!! LET'Z ME OUTTA HERE!!!! squealed Whirrlygig
Next toime Mek......dont wake me'z from my nap, unless dis fing is good and stompy! Zoggin Grots Chuckled King Cracka, smacking a couple laughing boyz across the shop on his way out.

Also I've been pondering how to do the MIGHTY BEARDED STOMPA HEAD and I think I've got that figured out as well. It needs to be epic, because the head will easily make or break the entire build. I was chuckling to myself the other day thinking about the current format, I think it was caused from the hot glue fumes, but thinking how I would do that when painting boyz and such. That would be interesting little dialog methinks Anywho, I actually tossed this together fairly quickly this morning, all before I had my breakfast, which shocked me as everything else has taken pretty much most the day to get to where they were. I blame that on the fact that Im truly scratch building here, there isnt a single premade part on this sucker, and that can at times, take some real head scratching. Im not knocking guys that kit bash, because Ive seen some REAL impressive kitbashes, but I tip my hat hands down, to fellas that take piles of sheeting and junk and go "TADAAA!" Im thinking Im keeping up some what with some of those builders that I aspire too. At least enough to say "yea that doesnt look like poop run over twice" Ok the update, because my stomach is on frigging empty and KC needs some grub. Enjoy ladz and lad-ets Welding showers the shop with glowing orange hot sparks, smoke fills the air with grit, banging hammers and spanners (because those make good hammers too) reverberate off the walls, and BigMek Whirrlygig scratches the top of his head with a grease soaked wrench, eyes glazed over in thought.
ALROIGHT DEN! King Cracka's voice booms. Show'z me whatcha got den Whirrlygigs, I'z got'z grots ta eat, and Humies ta beat Whirrlygig finally snaps out of his concentration. Ahh Boss! Good ta see ya. Yer Stompa is get'n close'a ta bein com....komer....err...jobz get'n done Boss! Whirrlygig snaps his fingers
Good, goooood, show me whatcha got den! King Cracka slumps steady but slowly around the shop looking at various vehicles and weapons being worked on.
Well! I'z got da engine a roar'n Boss! It'z a good un to be sure! I had da Burna Boyz strip dis out of some Humie flyin fing. It went REALLY fast, so I thoughts, why not stick it in da Boss's Stompa! Whirrlygig smiled so large his head nearly folded in half.
Not only dat Boss, but we'z got it mounted, and itz runnin da WHOOOOOOOOLE Stompa on its own. Whirrlygig's arms stretched out and slowly fell describing the word "WHOOOOLE" for added effect
Power'z everyfing too! And currently'z da Boyz are rough'n in where da bullet bounce'n metal whatsits go! Whirrlygig said approvingly to himself, arms folded across his chest looking like a glowing gleaming Gretchin that owned the world. Not realizing that King Cracka just rolled his eyes and walked away to do what Bosses do best, Kill things and eat.

The engine compartment top is just sitting there. Im leaving it unglued until I get that part painted, because theres so many nooks and crannies theres no WAY I could paint that. Sooooo theres the profile and its roughed in form. Next time, Ill bang on a metric crap load of panels all roughed up and good lookin like on other spots. THEN I can finally fill the rest of the stompa with panels, and then its time for some head. After that joy, Ill probably work on building the head So panels, panels.......and panels, head, random guns to make it legal and paint. Look at that, Im probably half way there-ish

Cool. Nice work on the engine and quite a unique design (I've not seen many rotary piston engines on models, even on Ork stuff).

Yea I chose that type for a few reasons.
They are REALLY efficient in the real work. WAY better power ration than typical car engines
I have also never seen someone do a rotary engine, and thought it would add to the cool factor
It simply cool to look at. All those vents and such. Ive always been a fan of the look of those

I dont think itll be too hard to paint the engine bay. Im going to try a few techniques new to me on the rest of the Stompa though, and that, will be tricky and tough. So Im hoping it really turns out how it looks in my head. Im going to do the salt and hairspray method for rusting and such along a crap load of the seems in the panels. Then Im also wanting to try my hand at weather the main color to look like its worn off over time showing metal underneath as well. So its going to be a fun yet really tough time painting the REST of the Stompa as its going to be totally new to me. The engine, thats just going to be strait forward weather and grime

Welp, Ive added some armor to the back section around the engine bay. Nothing really worth taking pictures of, but figured Id keep you all in the loop. Also, thanks to Viktor Von Doom, Im itching to take a break from this Stompa for a bit, and build a giant Robo Squig! So...lets see if I get that motivation or not Cheers ladz

So I decided I needed to take a break from the Stompa, I was getting burned out a bit, AND Im running low on materials, and I dont want to be half way through a major part of it (since Im nearing the really cool important parts of the build) and run out. So while rummaging through Viks blog, they were yapping about squigs, when an idea popped into my head. Why not make a robo squig! So at first it was just that idea, then it turned into making it usable so building it like dread sized so I could use it as a counts as dread. THEN! my brain kicked into turbodrive, and said "Duder....seriously, build a Mega Dread sized Squig, and use that as a counts as MegaDread!!!"
So thats what Im doing right now. Itll be fun me thinks Nothing too crazy or epic right now, but it shows you where I start, and what I typically start with on my scratchbuilds. This is basically how I do my thing folks, piles of random junk, containers of junk, junk made from junk with a splash of junk....and a TERRIBLY crude drawing Enjoy This is the tip of a drinking cup my son had, and I hated cleaning the damn thing out....soooooo its going to become the body of a MegaSquig
My awesome art skills, put anyone to shame Im sure, But this is actually my size comparison chart. I made one for the Stompa and DAKKAjets and so on as well. Its so while Im building, I can hold parts up next to the drawing and see if Im close enough or WAY to big.
Pile -o- junk as promised Next to my dread, that is bang on the same size as a SM dreadnaught. And where Im at so far, a very basic rough in for the mouth/front of its head. I wanted to get this a little closer to finished so I have a better idea on how/where to build the legs up.
Now, some ideas as to where Im going with the MegaSquig.....or MekaSquig rather Anywho, Im wanting it to be in mid stride, so one leg will be off the ground and the other will be supporting the entire model. Im putting the supakannon on its back, as you can see in theAwesomeArttm as well as the big shootas on its belly/underside. I think that would be a good spot for them. Im thinking of adding another bigshoota as well as the megacharger. Rounding its points out to 200pts. Not to mention the MEgacharger just sounds like sopmething a squig would need, regardless if its a small face bitter, or the size of a dumptruck Till next time ladz and lad-ets

Yea, I dont like to encourage Damian, he has enough crazy going on in his head, he doesnt need me adding to it I figured out real quickly, that the kannon needed to be on the top for the simple fact that it would look weird as all get out running, with a giant cannon tucked between its legs. Also, its a smidge shorter than a MegaDread, and putting the cannon on top adds a few inches to even it out.

Oki doki, so I worked more on the face, and its getting there, It still needs eyes and nose work, and possibly a robo tongue, though thats still up in the air. It would look cool though, I was thinking of having it swinging out the side of its mouth flapping in the wind like a dog though Im not sure how the hell to make a robo tongue TBH .

Anywho, the teef are done for sure, and youre really able to start seeing the face show signs of life. Im wanting this MekaSquig to look like a giant dog chasing its tail, as far as how it feels. It wont literally be chasing its tail, but I want it to have that kindda....dumb look, mentally of course Basically say "DAT LANDRAIDA HAZ YER BONE SQUIGGY! GO GET IT !!!" and off it goes OK enough yapping.

  Face coming together.
More piles of junk. This is how I like to work with all things Ork. Its just random left overs, that I grab up and see if itll fit. This turns into...
           And the final mouth
As always, I enjoy some comments and back and forths!
  Cheers ladz and Lad-ets!

See you need to dip your hands and feet into Ork land a bit more often. When Orks run out of teef, they just punch them out of the nearest Ork. Which in this case would be the poor lad manning the drive through window Thanks for the compliments so far gents. Im actually going back to work on it again, the itch is just hitting me hard right now. Also, a fun side note, at its current state, the MekaSquig is the perfect size for the head of my stompa. So crude drawings of dimensions are in order

I am doing my Big Squig as well. Beautiful project. Unfortunately ... I know it will take me ages to finish that... ...

All I created at the moment - is a basic shape.

Just look below. I know you'll know where it is going.

Outer layer - plasticard (+heatgun) It is wide as dreadnought base. Bottom circle - one way hatch. That protruding thing at the back - it is a main block for V-8 engine Cheers

Greetings there gents and germs! I did some work on the MekaSquig this morning, and Ive got to say, it was easily the hardest part of the damn build.....the legs! I had a decently good idea of how to go about it, but once I got to the end, I had swapped the positions of the legs, changed how I was going to have it end up pose wise, and now Im going to have to add some rumble and pipes and such to the base for the other foot. With the materials I had on hand, and how I build the MekaSquig in general, just wouldnt allow me to pose it how I had originally planned. Oh well, itll still look pretty sweet once finished me thinks, and itll add some umph to my base, as Ill be honest, Im typically a lazy base builder Anywho, progress!

       Playing with the Deffdread
I have the shotshell under its mouth to prop it up. The poor fella needs its other foot and the ruble and piping I was talking about to support the weight. It sags a good inchish with out it right now, and I dont even have a supakannon on his back yet Oh well, lesson learned, next time I try something crazy with a pose, Im building the leg supporting the weight it a steel rod through the base, and into the main body Annnnnnd putting these up Ive realized I put the leg together incorrectly, the one that is off the ground. Oh well, I think a quick reposition of that leg will help me a bit with the ruble and junk. Soo Ill look at that as a pro Enjoy ladz and lad-ets , remember to always think big and build bigger!

Impressive build you have there. Just a thought; how about adding some/many pistons from the body to the legs? This will fit the Orky look and may help strengthen the joint and it won't sag so much.

9217
Post by: KingCracker

I plan on adding hydraulics to those very spots, so that will help, but then I'd still have to rip the entire leg apart and redue how it's done just for that extra strength. Instead, I'm going to just pose the other foot on top of some rubble and that will fix the problem.
Speaking of foot I tore off the other leg and reposed it the correct way. I feel like a total bonehead for missing that the though that happens. I realized after posting "the grot with the golden gun" that I forgot to paint his teef. Anywho, more tomorrow, because this build is cruising. Also, I think I've figured out how I'll do the flappy robo tongue, and give it a try after the other foot is attached.

Alrighty, I decided today I would do some work on MekaSquig. And work I did Got him attached to his base fully, and he is standing on his own feet with no slop in it what so ever. Im totally confident that I can now add the cannon on his back as well the tail and last few armor plates. So yes, happy happy happy Now what youve came for, make sure you leave some type of response dag nabbit! *shakes fist*

Easily the size of a Megadread without the mighty back kannon
meow.......er?..... confused, the mek inside bangs on the control panel with a wrench

I'm diggin it!
I understand your pain on the wire in the legs.

I usually find the strongest wire hanger in house and use it as armatures for my squigs. sometimes this proves to not be strong enough, if you look at my latest squig you commented on he is leaning a bit already >.>

might have to give him a cottage roof to step through similiar to how you've propped yours up.

I had been hot gluing my wire hangers into the foam balls then building up around them with milliput, so unsure of how to advise you how to do a connectino that would have the strength you seek going into plastic/hollow cavity. in past using plastic golf balls as squig boddies I greenstuffed the hanger into a spot and glued crap around it but never had enough weight on those to test anything worthwhile

edit: interested to see where you put the operator/driver too. Doing it warhammer online style in the mouf? or inside the brains? Just had thought of the dude having an outhouse for a "hat"... call him gak for brains~

Post by: KingCracker

I use hotglue for the vast majority of my big projects, its just so cheap and works really well. I hadnt thought enough on how it was going to support its self, I figured the leg would be enough. Over time though, the weight really piled on. If I do that again (which why wouldnt I make a cool model?!) Ill make sure the leg that is contacting the ground, will be built around a metal rod of some kind. One strong enough to hold several pounds even. Oh well, not a huge deal.
As far as a pilot.....erm....I hadnt thought of one? I was just going to add a tail the guns and a tongue flapping in the wind. Although......you might have just given me an idea for one.......hmmmmm Ill go play around with this for a bit and see if something pops out Automatically Appended Next Post: HOLY MOLY! PAGE 10!!

How about a small squig on a makeshift treadmill in the mouth, with servos attached to his "head"! then put a grot on the cannon on top to give it that multi-orkish team to operate such an exquisite piece of machinery!

OOOOOooor, you could have a grot with a joystick hanging around it, kinda like a kid with an R/C monster trukk!

I had a cool idea for a pilot, and it just wasnt working out. Im sure if I actually started with a pilot in mind, things would be different, but since I didnt, it just looks kindda thrown in and I dont want to rebuild the entire jaw just to say cool, a pilot. Im still not sure what/how Im making the tongue, I think next time Ill jump into that whole shebang and see what I come up with. Thanks for all the compliments and such everyone, really warms a Meks heart strings So today we worked on some GUNZ! Yea, you know, the important part in Ork Kulture. I made sure they are nice and LOUD! DAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKA Anywho, for realz, Supakannon, and 3 bigshootas. The Kannon moves up and down and stays in place rather well, and the pair of Bigshootas swivel in place as well.

  Pics and stuff
And lastly, I want some ideas for the eyes. I have been scratching my head big time on this part. I THINK I want to make one of them a blob of lens/roboeyes but thats really it. Thoughts? I need to get this part done for sure next time because....well it cant see and no eyes makes it look completely unfinished. The back half yes I've had that thing for a decade now.

I like the angry eye idea, that adds instant character. Maybe I'll put some big bolts and such to hold that on too. My current problem with adding bodies and hanging grots is that I'm pretty much out of extra bodies to do those things. And I've got a pretty tight hobby budget currently, though I did have a job interview yesterday so that might change Cheers

Post by: KingCracker

Well, the MekaSquig is pretty damn close to completion. I was thinking about working on some more things today when the wife showed up and handed me 3 bags of cheap ass pens and said "Here, they were cheap and figured youd use them for something"
  .....

  .....

  ......

And I figured hey, I should start some Grot Tanks! Because they seem like a pretty good unit, and look cool, and shoot well, and.....and...why not?! So I bashed this little fella together. It didnt take TOO long. It would of been a good 30minutes quicker had I known how to do the tank treads the way I ended up doing them. So figuring that out took some time, but after that it was cake.

As always enjoy and C&C and all that jazz
The individual treads took some time but wasnt too bad, considering I think that really made the tracks.

Boss KingCracka was busy looking at maps and star maps scratching his chin squig pondering his next move for more destruction when a sudden, high pitched yell shook him from his concentration.
GROT COMMANDA SIR GROTINGHAM THA 3RD RE-PORTIN FER DUTY SAH!!!! Sir Grotingham the 3rd then saluted as stiff as a board, looking as professional as possible. One arm strait by his side, the other up, bent at the elbow with a thumb stuck into his ear, fingers sticking strait up above his head.
KingCracka was jolted, knocking over random things from his desk. He looked down at this pint size Gretchin, and what he saw was rather odd, even for a Grot. He was slightly tall for a Gretchin, well dressed in a crisp clean uniform, that was clearly taken from an Imperial Officer from somewhere, the blood stained bullet hole saw to that.
Er....who are you'z again? KingCracka said puzzled, still trying to figure out just what he was looking at.
GROT COMMANDA SIR GROTINGHAM THA 3RD! SAH!!! KingCracka covered his ears and winced at the sheer volume of squeekyness.
You'z dun hav'ta but KingCracka was cut off mid sentence
IZ HERE TA RUN YER TANK SQUADRONS! SAH!! Grotingham saluted again, his heels clicked so hard together it echoed in the Bosses tent.
ILL KEEP 'EM IN TIP TOP SHAPE, SAH! WONT TAKE NO GUFF! WONT TAKE NO PANZIES EITHA, SAH! YOU'Z'LL HAVE THA ROUGHEST TOUGHEST ZOGGIN GROTS IN THE TIRE UNIVERSE SAH!!!!!!! Then Grot Commanda Sir Grotingham tha 3rd saluted once more, stuffing his thumb into his ear, fingers strait as nails, spun in place, and marched out of the bosses tent, making sure to whack some confused boyz who were curious what all the commotion was in the bosses tent.
GET TA WERK YA LOUSY GITS!! DOUBLE TIME DOUBLE TIME MOOOOVE IT!!!!!!! squeeked the Commanda kicking the other boy in the pants.
King Cracka just scratched his head in total confusion.E'z got guts dats fer sure

Holy mother of Greenskins! I'm actually working on a build, for the first time in years! I was inspired by seeing some chaps building a HUGE warboss out of a Reapers miniatures fire giant jailer....or some such nonsense. Anywho, although they looked cool and I could see where the fellas were going with their builds I just kept seeing things in the minis that just broke that Ork feeling to me. Either they left the boots looking like fantasy boots, or the gauntlets were the same, or the heads they used too small, which left it looking like a pimple or that shrunken head guy from Beetlejuice
Anywho, I said screw it, im going to make a Boss that makes other bosses tremble and swallow hard! Space Marines quake in their power boots! Guardsmen and women off themselves at the mention of his name! A Boss that flosses his teef with Necron Lords and uses Hive Tyrants for toilet paper!
King Cracka da world Smasha! ( clever name I know )so I already started a bit, and I only get to work on this beast during the weekends so sometimes this blog will stagnate for a week or two depending on life but hey, I dont play anymore so I dont really care about the time frame or money, since it's morefor show than anything. So I'llstart with the original mini next to other Ork things to show its massive scale

Notice that this guy isnt on a base, so even if I just make a regular flat base, itll add to its height

So I'll be bulking out and Orking up the sentinel leg, I'm green stuffing the other boot into a more Ork combat boot, I'll leave the metal upper boot parts, probably round em up more so they dont look like fantasy armor. My plan for the head is to actually quad cut an Ork head I choose and plasticard it to stretch and bulk the head just enough, that will be tuff but I know I can manage. I'm going to build 1 or 2 giant robo power fist hands to replacethe fists. They look OK on their own but at least 1 hand is becoming a giant smashysmashy hand. If I keep the other hand its DEFINITELY getting the gauntlet ground down and covered with a more appropriate Orky junk of metal and rust. As for a gun, since I'm making this more for looks, I'm seriously thinking a GIANT scary burna, maybe add a gatling gun or big ol heavy bolter for gaks and giggles.

I also have an idea for his boss pole. I figured King Cracka has beaten. A LOT of other bosses and taken their boyz and he would have taken that bosses banner as a trophy, so not sure how yet, but a big ol pile of banners kind of hap hardly mashed together just to show everyone on the field that hes da biggest an baddest around! So if anyone has ideas for pretty much anything feel free to add to it, because the skies the limit on this one, I dont have to worry about WYSIWYG in the slightest.

  Cheers everyone!
