Well Im glad youre digging the current little story mode for the updates. I thought itd be a fun way to do my updates. I was chuckling to myself the other day thinking about the current format, I think it was caused from the hot glue fumes, but thinking how I would do that when painting boyz and such. That would be interesting little dialog methinks

Anywho, I actually tossed this together fairly quickly this morning, all before I had my breakfast, which shocked me as everything else has taken pretty much most the day to get to where they were. I blame that on the fact that Im truly scratch building here, there isnt a single premade part on this sucker, and that can at times, take some real head scratching. Im not knocking guys that kit bash, because Ive seen some REAL impressive kitbashes, but I tip my hat hands down, to fellas that take piles of sheeting and junk and go "TADAAA!" Im thinking Im keeping up some what with some of those builders that I aspire too. At least enough to say "yea that doesnt look like poop run over twice" Ok the update, because my stomach is on frigging empty and KC needs some grub. Enjoy ladz and lad-ets

Welding showers the shop with glowing orange hot sparks, smoke fills the air with grit, banging hammers and spanners (because those make good hammers too) reverberate off the walls, and BigMek Whirrlygig scratches the top of his head with a grease soaked wrench, eyes glazed over in thought.
ALROIGHT DEN! King Cracka's voice booms. Show'z me whatcha got den Whirrlygigs, I'z got'z grots ta eat, and Humies ta beat
Whirrlygig finally snaps out of his concentration. Ahh Boss! Good ta see ya. Yer Stompa is get'n close'a ta bein com....komer....err...jobz get'n done Boss! Whirrlygig snaps his fingers
Good, goooood, show me whatcha got den! King Cracka slumps steady but slowly around the shop looking at various vehicles and weapons being worked on.
Well! I'z got da engine a roar'n Boss! It'z a good un to be sure! I had da Burna Boyz strip dis out of some Humie flyin fing. It went REALLY fast, so I thoughts, why not stick it in da Boss's Stompa! Whirrlygig smiled so large his head nearly folded in half.
Not only dat Boss, but we'z got it mounted, and itz runnin da WHOOOOOOOOLE Stompa on its own. Whirrlygig's arms stretched out and slowly fell describing the word "WHOOOOLE" for added effect
Power'z everyfing too! And currently'z da Boyz are rough'n in where da bullet bounce'n metal whatsits go! Whirrlygig said approvingly to himself, arms folded across his chest looking like a glowing gleaming Gretchin that owned the world. Not realizing that King Cracka just rolled his eyes and walked away to do what Bosses do best, Kill things and eat.

The engine compartment top is just sitting there. Im leaving it unglued until I get that part painted, because theres so many nooks and crannies theres no WAY I could paint that. Sooooo theres the profile and its roughed in form. Next time, Ill bang on a metric crap load of panels all roughed up and good lookin like on other spots. THEN I can finally fill the rest of the stompa with panels, and then its time for some head. After that joy, Ill probably work on building the head So panels, panels.......and panels, head, random guns to make it legal and paint. Look at that, Im probably half way there-ish

Cool. Nice work on the engine and quite a unique design (I've not seen many rotary piston engines on models, even on Ork stuff).

Yea I chose that type for a few reasons.

They are REALLY efficient in the real work. WAY better power ration than typical car engines
I have also never seen someone do a rotary engine, and thought it would add to the cool factor
It simply cool to look at. All those vents and such. Ive always been a fan of the look of those

I dont think itll be too hard to paint the engine bay. Im going to try a few techniques new to me on the rest of the Stompa though, and that, will be tricky and tough. So Im hoping it really turns out how it looks in my head. Im going to do the salt and hairspray method for rusting and such along a crap load of the seems in the panels. Then Im also wanting to try my hand at weather the main color to look like its worn off over time showing metal underneath as well. So its going to be a fun yet really tough time painting the REST of the Stompa as its going to be totally new to me. The engine, thats just going to be strait forward weather and grime

Welp, Ive added some armor to the back section around the engine bay. Nothing really worth taking pictures of, but figured Id keep you all in the loop. Also, thanks to Viktor Von Doom, Im itching to take a break from this Stompa for a bit, and build a giant Robo Squig! So...lets see if I get that motivation or not

Cheers ladz

So I decided I needed to take a break from the Stompa, I was getting burned out a bit, AND Im running low on materials, and I dont want to be half way through a major part of it (since Im nearing the really cool important parts of the build) and run out. So while rummaging through Viks blog, they were yapping about squigs, when an idea popped into my head. Why not make a robo squig! So at first it was just that idea, then it turned into making it usable so building it like dread sized so I could use it as a counts as dread. THEN! my brain kicked into turbodrive, and said "Duder....seriously, build a Mega Dread sized Squig, and use that as a counts as MegaDread!!!"

So thats what Im doing right now. Itll be fun me thinks Nothing too crazy or epic right now, but it shows you where I start, and what I typically start with on my scratchbuilds. This is basically how I do my thing folks, piles of random junk, containers of junk, junk made from junk with a splash of junk....and a TERRIBLY crude drawing

Enjoy

This is the tip of a drinking cup my son had, and I hated cleaning the damn thing out....soooooo its going to become the body of a MegaSquig

My awesome art skills, put anyone to shame Im sure, But this is actually my size comparison chart. I made one for the Stompa and DAKKAjets and so on as well. Its so while Im building, I can hold parts up next to the drawing and see if Im close enough or WAY to big.

Pile -o- junk as promised

Next to my dread, that is bang on the same size as a SM dreadnaught. And where Im at so far, a very basic rough in for the mouth/front of its head. I wanted to get this a little closer to finished so I have a better idea on how/where to build the legs up.

Now, some ideas as to where Im going with the MegaSquig.....or MekaSquig rather Anywho, Im wanting it to be in mid stride, so one leg will be off the ground and the other will be supporting the entire model. Im putting the supakannon on its back, as you can see in the AwesomeArttm as well as the big shootas on its belly/underside. I think that would be a good spot for them. Im thinking of adding another bigshoota as well as the megacharger. Rounding its points out to 200pts. Not to mention the MEgacharger just sounds like sopmething a squig would need, regardless if its a small face bitter, or the size of a dumptruck

Till next time ladz and lad-ets

Yea, I dont like to encourage Damian, he has enough crazy going on in his head, he doesnt need me adding to it

I figured out real quickly, that the kannon needed to be on the top for the simple fact that it would look weird as all get out running, with a giant cannon tucked between its legs. Also, its a smidge shorter than a MegaDread, and putting the cannon on top adds a few inches to even it out.

Oki doki, so I worked more on the face, and its getting there, It still needs eyes and nose work, and possibly a robo tongue, though thats still up in the air. It would look cool though, I was thinking of having it swinging out the side of its mouth flapping in the wind like a dog though Im not sure how the hell to make a robo tongue TBH.

Anywho, the teef are done for sure, and youre really able to start seeing the face show signs of life. Im wanting this MekaSquig to look like a giant dog chasing its tail, as far as how it feels. It wont literally be chasing its tail, but I want it to have that kindda....dumb look, mentally of course Basically say "DAT LANDRAIDA HAZ YER BONE SQUIGGY! GO GET IT!!!" and off it goes OK enough yapping.

Face coming together.

More piles of junk. This is how I like to work with all things Ork. Its just random left overs, that I grab up and see if itll fit. This turns into...

And the final mouth

As always, I enjoy some comments and back and forths!

See you need to dip your hands and feet into Ork land a bit more often. When Orks run out of teef, they just punch them out of the nearest Ork. Which in this case would be the poor lad manning the drive through window

Thanks for the compliments so far gents. Im actually going back to work on it again, the itch is just hitting me hard right now. Also, a fun side note, at its current state, the MekaSquig is the perfect size for the head of my stompa. So crude drawings of dimensions are in order

I have to say, when one is not used to building frog legs... it's really weird doing. I've got one leg mostly done, just have to put the foot and toes on. Just taking for ever I'm using a picture of a T-rex running to figure out the leg structure.

I am doing my Big Squig as well. Beautiful project. Unfortunately ... I know it will take me ages to finish that... ...

All I created at the moment - is a basic shape.

Just look below. I know you'll know where it is going.

Outer layer - plasticard (+heatgun) It is wide as dreadnought base. Bottom circle - one way hatch. That protruding thing at the back - it is a main block for V-8 engine

Cheers

Greetings there gents and germs! I did some work on the MekaSquig this morning, and Ive got to say, it was easily the hardest part of the damn build.....the legs! I had a decently good idea of how to go about it, but once I got to the end, I had swapped the positions of the legs, changed how I was going to have it end up pose wise, and now Im going to have to add some rumble and pipes and such to the base for the other foot. With the materials I had on hand, and how I build the MekaSquig in general, just wouldnt allow me to pose it how I had originally planned. Oh well, itll still look pretty sweet once finished me thinks, and itll add some umph to my base, as Ill be honest, Im typically a lazy base builder

Anywho, progress!

Playing with the Deffdread

I have the shotshell under its mouth to prop it up. The poor fella needs its other foot and the ruble and piping I was talking about to support the weight. It sags a good inchish with out it right now, and I dont even have a supakannon on his back yet Oh well, lesson learned, next time I try something crazy with a pose, Im building the leg supporting the weight it a steel rod through the base, and into the main body

Annnnnnd putting these up Ive realized I put the leg together incorrectly, the one that is off the ground. Oh well, I think a quick reposition of that leg will help me a bit with the ruble and junk. Soo Ill look at that as a pro

Enjoy ladz and lad-ets , remember to always think big and build bigger!

Impressive build you have there.

Just a thought; how about adding some/many pistons from the body to the legs? This will fit the Orky look and may help strengthen the joint and it won't sag so much.

I plan on adding hydraulics to those very spots, so that will help, but then I'd still have to rip the entire leg apart and redue how it's done just for that extra strength. Instead, I'm going to just pose the other foot on top of some rubble and that will fix the problem.

Speaking of foot I tore off the other leg and reposed it the correct way. I feel like a total bonehead for missing that the though that happens. I realized after posting "the grot with the golden gun" that I forgot to paint his teef. Anywho, more tomorrow, because this build is cruising. Also, I think I've figured out how I'll do the flappy robo tongue, and give it a try after the other foot is attached.

Alrighty, I decided today I would do some work on MekaSquig. And work I did Got him attached to his base fully, and he is standing on his own feet with no slop in it what so ever. Im totally confident that I can now add the cannon on his back as well the tail and last few armor plates. So yes, happy happy happy

I'm diggin it!

I understand your pain on the wire in the legs.

I usually find the strongest wire hanger in house and use it as armatures for my squigs. sometimes this proves to not be strong enough, if you look at my latest squig you commented on he is leaning a bit already >.>

might have to give him a cottage roof to step through similiar to how you've propped yours up.

I had been hot gluing my wire hangers into the foam balls then building up around them with milliput, so unsure of how to advise you how to do a connectino that would have the strength you seek going into plastic/hollow cavity. in past using plastic golf balls as squig boddies I greenstuffed the hanger into a spot and glued crap around it but never had enough weight on those to test anything worthwhile

edit: interested to see where you put the operator/driver too. Doing it warhammer online style in the mouf? or inside the brains? Just had thought of the dude having an outhouse for a "hat"... call him gak for brains~
