Hasslefree News & Rumors Thread @ 2020/05/05 13:28:49

Just as an update, it's been nine months and I've still had multiple attempts to contact them via various emails completely ignored. I paid for a miniature I never got, and then never received so much as an automated response from them when I tried to contact them about it.

I feel like it would be silly to continue to do business with a company that I had such an experience with. It's a shame - it's a natural mistake - most of my order was there, after all. I just needed a timely response and an eventual correction. They've got plenty other minis I would have purchased in the meantime, if I'd just seen any sign of customer service at all. I'm not angry, I'm disappointed that a mini manufacturer with such awesome stuff has lost my trust going forward.

Well, by way of experiment I've just placed an order with Hasslefree. One of my patrons asked for Widow as a patron reward, so I threw in a few items for the studio collection.

I did have some trouble with the website. I couldn't reset my forgotten password (page just went to refresh) and, initially, couldn't checkout with the new account I set up with a different email. The latter issue was fixed by turning off my ad blocker (a privilege I have hitherto restricted to Dakka).

Order is placed. We'll see how they do.

I understand that Damion (Artemis Black) has actually moved into the warehouse (i.e. sleeping, eating etc) for the lockdown. Hopefully, this will mean a radical catch-up with historical issues as well as an efficient response to new orders.

I also gather that shipping is basically a huge pile of parcels, once a week, and it takes their local post office two or three days to get through them all.

I'll update when I know more!

Yeah, I placed an order (I think) about two weeks ago. Arrived yesterday, having been just enough time for me to have completely forgotten about it... So that was a nice surprise.

I am still waiting for my order from 7 weeks ago, just as another data point. So they are not completely back to normal yet.

Huh. It's been awhile since I ordered anything from them but I know others who have done so more recently with no problem. Artemis used to be pretty active here on Dakka as well.

I’m wondering how long it will take for them to restock the Scooby Doo gang in survival gear? I really need them for a game. Plus I have a ton of other things I want but there’s no point ordering until those guys I need are in stock.

Just an update: the order I placed last October just arrived. To be fair lately everything is taking at least three months, so it's possible it might have arrived two or three months ago if not for the current situation.

Everything I ordered was present, but there were also a random selection of models I hadn't ordered (six human models and two sets of conversion bits to be precise), and also some random sweets. Seeing as nothing was missing I don't think this was a packing mistake, more likely a deliberate bonus (although there was no letter or invoice in the package so I can't be sure).

Anyway, the models themselves are great, so I'll forgive them for the delay.

Hasslefree often slip an extra item into orders, if they knew yours was quite late I would guess they put a few more items in. The sweets too are standard

Still no package for me (ordered mid-March). It does sound like they're gradually working through the orders, but I have just opened up a PayPal dispute anyway because otherwise I'm going to hit the 180 day limit and maybe never see my dosh again. :(

This is really sad to hear. It would be a shame if they go under, such great sculpts.
I hope they skip the Halloween/Black Friday sales this year, they couldn't keep up the last years, if they are still behind at least 6 months of orders, the flood of new orders would push this to an even more ridiculous queue.

Yeah. I really don't mind a wait, and I have been buying from them for... more years than I can remember. But the lack of communications (I've mailed them three times in the past three months) means I don't feel comfortable ordering from them any more. I did say by email that I'd be happy with *any* answer, even "give us another few months"!

It's such a shame they've been having so many problems. It really seems like having a successful Kickstarter pretty much ruined them.

Not sure if this all is KS related, it might just be a crappy year overall for them, but then again last year was less than stellar as well IIRC.

They last made a Facebook post on their general status way back in May, correct me if I'm wrong or missed a more recent newsletter / post as to their status.

They are apparently still working to some capacity behind the scenes if the comments section is anything to go by. And people are still waiting on their models, with the one year mark quickly approaching.

There's a message on their own website dated 17th of August:
Post Lockdown News!

Hi everyone, so we 're out of the worst part of lockdown, manufacturing is back up and running however there are still postal delays due to social distancing etc. Nothing we can do about that I'm afraid, post offices are not always open and are understaffed. We appreciate your patience in that matter.

The email address you want to use if you need an urgent reply is BWARTEMIS at GMAIL dot COM. If you reply to our domain address at the moment, it can be eaten by an overeager spam filter.
(We are overdue a big website change up, again, lockdown and associated issue delayed it)

Please ignore any despatch notification you may have gotten for old orders you have already received, we found some paperwork we hadn't filed properly and are catching up : )

Now everything is back to normal, we are having a short period of housekeeping, then we'll close for a short while then we will re-open, hopefully issue free and fully restocked! We will keep everyone informed of these changes via our newsletter, which you can sign up to on this page to the right!

Thanks,

Arty.

That said, there is presumably a lot more catching up to do than indicated here when it comes to orders from a long time ago, even if others have been shipped in the meantime.

How did the kickstarter ruin them??

Hasslefree News & Rumors Thread @ 2020/09/14 22:25:35

Post by: Barzam

As I recall, there was more demand than they expected, which put them waaaaay behind on everything, resulting in months long waits just for regular purchases from their store. I think they might have lost some staff as well and they wound up falling even more behind when they had eelays crop up in the KS production. Basically just one thing led to another and it all kind of snowballed. Didn't help when people started getting verbally abusive with them, either.

I still have not received my stuff from kickstarter, although all the minis created via it can now be purchased on-line in their website.

Every effort for communication is in vague. They just do not respond to me for years now.

It is a pity because I have purchased a lot of minis from them in the past and supported heavily the kickstarter.

What I really do not get, is why they do not send me the minis after so many years, although they have been produced and are available.

Hasslefree News & Rumors Thread @ 2020/09/15 08:20:26

Post by: Ian Sturrock

Yeah it does seem unreasonable when people get overly angry at KS delays. I think if the delay is less than a year, and the creator does regular updates (even only every couple of months), you just have to accept it. Delays happen, especially with the kind of boutique projects a lot of us back. I mean even the big-name projects rarely delivery on time.

When you place an order from a webstore and hear nothing for months or years, though...

Hasslefree News & Rumors Thread @ 2020/09/15 08:29:56

Post by: Kid_Kyoto

Once you hit your maximum capacity, a successful kickstarter (or any other success) becomes a problem.

You either have to add capacity or make do with what you have.

Adding capacity (people, space, machinery, whatever) take time and resources and does not make sense if it's a one off like a KS. Making do takes more time and can burn out staff.

So basically you can lose either way...

How many times have we seen this happen.. the KS can really make a company, but also wreck it unless it is well planned and resourced. Sadly it seems this doesn't happen that much.

But I'm sorry to hear that people just aren't hearing anything back from the KS, it's really really disappointing (and I know people are generally sympathetic, but ultimately you have paid hard-earned money for something you've not received)

I did have an order planned from their shop - does anyone know if standard orders are going through in decent time?

Halloween sale, use code HALLOWEEN2020 for 20% off. Sale runs until 2nd of November or later and all orders placed before that date will not be shipped out until after that date. Spend 70 quid or more and you get a goodie bag with candy and their Halloween mini.

For those still waiting on their orders..

Right, due to lockdown affecting supply chains and my personal health we've been unable to properly reboot the business this year. It's been a pain for all involved.

However, we have made great strides lately, despite the restrictions.

This closure is allowing me to catch up on paperwork etc. and be ready for the supply chain to catch up (We have placed substantial orders with our suppliers so should be in good stock and also have new releases post sale)

However, there are also some outstanding issues awaiting either the supply chain to catch up or another fix of some kind. I will be contacting you within the next 24hrs about these.

If you do not get that contact from me, please email me on the below address. Mark it 'Urgent', as we consider any outstanding issues at this point of highest priority.

In fact, If you have any issues, no matter how old or how small, please email me on bwartemis@gmail.com

(not the domain address and please don't reply to this newsletter)

From Monday onwards I will get back to you within 48hrs (barring weekends) - GUARANTEED!
Hopefully those still waiting on their order(s) will finally get the stuff and get some closure.

Same- I've only ordered from them a few times, but I like the idea of them.

They, and really I mean Artimis had a lot of bad things happen to him (chronic injury with multiple failed surgeries to address, along with a divorce IIRC along with the kick starter stress on top of the regular job)

I've been hoping they would finally pull through and get back on top of things.

Worth noting the newsletter also contains a warning that the region they're in may be in an severe corona-lockdown for another week after the promotion (i.e. after the 2nd of November), so there could be more of a delay than usual (whatever usual means these days).

Would love to hear if some of the people still waiting for A) products, and B) replies will get them in the given time period when reaching out to the email address posted above. I'd love to be assured Hasslefree has their stuff sorted out, both for them and for the customers involved.

From Facebook:

Covid, here we go again.

Wales is officially in a ‘firebreak’ lockdown. The retail unit is near Caerphilly.

Since the first lockdown in March, Dameon has mostly been living at the unit and it’s exhausting as well as not being the best environment for mental and physical health. We had been muddling through with one part-time staff member coming in but that may even be in doubt during the ‘firebreak’.

Postal runs are still slow and delayed, we use a local post office to drop orders off at and that has closed now a number of times due to staff self-isolating and awaiting test results. This has meant a longer run into Caerphilly to drop orders off at a larger post office. As Dameon doesn’t drive this again means we are reliant on friends/family to pick up/drop off.

Restocks are also relying on contract casters being able to work with the social distancing and their staff delays due to Covid.

We are still here, still mega-stressed and like a lot of small companies we wonder about how we can keep changing interventions to keep going.

Thankyou to everyone who is still supporting us through this chaos.

Placed an order; let's see how long it will take to arrive (or indeed: be sent).

Nothing that I need urgently, as although one figure will be painted up as a gift, it will probably take months if not years before I can visit the intended recipient of said gift with the current state of the world.

Ended up including the two kitties from their Kickstarter as the basis for some Necromunda Phyrr Cats - quite the exciting race to see which arrives first: these ones, or any that FW can be bothered to make...

From the newsletter:

No Mail until 9th November!

This newsletter is a re-issue, but with the new information patched in. Wales has been put under a temporary Coronavirus 'firebreak' until the 9th November. As such we are staying closed for mail until then.
That is the only change for now. We will keep you informed. I 'am' allowed to travel into work alone so I will stil be answering emails and solving oustanding issues when I am at the warehouse.

Thanks

That's good to hear! (/read.) Guess they might be batch-processing orders, and you might hear back when they're batch-processing the email side of things later, or maybe they're just prioritizing getting the orders out - and to be fair, given the choice of receiving either, I presume most people prefer the products over an email saying they'll get their products.

From facebook, no sure if anybody here needs help on either project, but if you do or know somebody who does here I is....

Hasslefree

Sally here:

Evening folks. Lockdown again
Time to talk Kickstarters:

1: The final castings of Artemis 2.0 shipped a few weeks ago.

2: The Matt Dixon Kickstarter is almost sorted, there are a few that seems to be hanging around due to various things but Dameon is going to pass everything that’s left over to me in the next few days to tie up the loose ends.

As it currently stands I have had zero access to either the backer report or email conversations on the KS site for the duration of the project as Dameon had dealt with it all. There are some backers who have already approached me direct and as soon as I get the login details I will post an update with my email details so that I can resolve the last remaining niggles and get the project ‘put to bed’.

The email that I am using for the KS enquiries is separate to my usual HF one so that I can keep things separate and organised. It’s
LibbytheaxeATyahooDOTcoDOTuk.

If you have an outstanding Matt Dixon KS issue then please contact me there, anytime from now is fine. I will be collating Info to then pass to Dameon to ship. If needed I will book a few days off and drive down to Wales and pack/post them myself as I need everyone happy so we can move on.

Can I ask that if you see anyone who is querying the project that you direct them to this post or to my email above.

Thankyou to everyone who had been patient, we appreciate it.

Latest newsletter:

Halloween Fulfillment

Allo Everyone

Just a quick update to let everyone know that Halloween Fulfillment is well underway and we are scheduled to have 95% of the orders out by end of this week. Hundreds have already gone (Despatch notifications are manual and I've been doing them in big clumps to save some time).

The last 5% have either been contacted or are being contacted (I never like saying 100% because mistakes happen, inventory errors, resin breakages etc. etc. plus we do get people not filling their addresses out correctly and the like)..

This newsletter is mostly because we have had a number of messages wondering why their order, placed while we were closed until the 9th November, hasn't shown up, so this will be an easy link to point them at *grin*

Thank you to the 'many' hundreds of people who made orders while we had a rest. We love the business but we did come back to work to a gigantic stack of orders, and due to the sale they were larger and more varied than the usual.

We are very much hoping that by the weekend we will have every single order sorted or the individual will know why and when it's due. Feels pretty good to say that after the last year

Newsletter again on Friday with a new update!

Arty.

Today I got my order from December 4th. The only freebies I got this time was the usual British candy. But that's okay because it took less than a month from the dispatch email to reach me.

I guess I'm forgiving because they're a small company, I like their work, and overall they've been pretty good to me.

A month from UK to US is pretty good, right now.

Actually, that's been the approximate time for my last few orders with them pre-pandemic, So this was "on time" rather than being affected by plague and /or Brexit. How ironic is that?

Speak of the devil. Parcel arrived later that day. It looked pretty bashed up but everything inside was fine.
Cool. So how long was it in total between ordering and receiving?

OK, that's crazy. I did have worse one time from CoolMiniOrNot (which was the last time I ordered from them); I think I waited over a year, with constant emails sent to them, before my stuff arrived.

I'm still waiting for my Iron Warriors from New Wave Gaming (Now CMoN) from early 2000s. I know they will never come, it's just fun to keep track of.

If anyone else feels the call to run and keep a new Hasslefree thread up to date, go for it.
