Thanks MGS. I knew there was fluff to support ladies in the Guard, even in some semi-elite units(Tanith Scouts and Snipers come to mind), but didn't know if there was any mention of female Stormtroopers or Kasrkin.
My urban-combat themed Cadians appear to be much more of a reality, and now that I can also add females....the army will look that much BETTER!

I like the armor and I like the helmet, but I don't like that helmet with that armor. The armor is angular and has a lot of corners and edges. The helmet is smooth and rounded and looks like an Apple design. They just don't go well together. Hopefully there will be an option for a slightly more angular helmet...or for smoother, rounded armor.

The Dread Pirate K'lok
The self-titled 'Dread Pirate' K'lok, Captain of the not-very-good ship Scuttlebutt and boss of Quirion and Buckle, armed with a trusty flintlock and stood on his most recent booty.
Sculpted by Werner Klocke for the charity Goblinaid and now available proper
Powered-Armour Kieran
Megalynn's Big Brother and another member of the spacefaring White family, joining Powered Armour Libby, Captain Kev, Megalynn and Smudgester. Kieran is decked out in advanced powered armour including an oversized ripper claw and pulse carbine.
This is a young teenager in powered armour so considerably shorter than our regular adult figures at ~24mm.

Edit: And dammit BrookM! I need to quit updating your neglected news threads you git (um, though I haven't posted Crooked Dice's new crap lately come to think of it... Shuttit). These first two ladies look like their bases on something. Hunger Games and Firefly perhaps? Thanks for the update. The armored scifi troopers look really nice and are a great addition to the not-stargate set of regular infantry. As for the ladies, I'm getting more of a Battlestar Galactica reboot Starbuck feel from the fig on the right, mainly due to the hair, dogtags, and the cigar.

Hasslefree has a new(ish) Facebook page just for posting Kev's WIPs on. Here's a few of the new minis shown on their main Facebook page too. Most of these are now available as resin masters on their site (resin masters being the more expensive, but higher quality versions of their minis which they have in limited quantities whenever a new model is released). Greens incoming (presumably, the ones for the last lot I posted here still aren't out IIRC).

Honestly there are so many fantastic models from hasslefree that I fear for my wallet when I visit the website. They also do the only Muay Thai model I have ever seen which I have to buy at some point.
I hope that new one is avalable with weapon swaps.

Post by: Wyrmalla
Kev said that he put the model together with intention of giving her different arm/weapon options. He's having second thoughts now, so we'll see where that goes. Its not like its a massive chore to swap a plasma pistol out for a revolver though or the chainsword for an empty hand (I have piles of Wargames Factory male and female models handy, so limbs aren't too difficult to nab a hold of here). It would be nice if there was a fantasy counterpart for this model however (with a hand crossbow and a regular sword or something) as it has the right style, just not the correct weapons, and well futuristic gothic minis are perhaps a bit niche outside of 40k.

IMO the general future gothic look (with variations) has been around SF since Mad Max 2 at least, and is one of the more widespread tropes in the genre.
Like you say the weapons would be easy to swap.
A reasonably good Green Stuffer could turn the coat skirts into a Victorian frilly confection. Swap weapons, add goggles and there you have a Steampunk adventuress.
Green Stuff the coat skirts into plate armour and you are getting close to the look of Saber out of Fate/Hollow Ataraxia.

I am going to get this miniature, but I am a touch disappointed. The model is so frustratingly close to perfect that it is annoying. Tec-9s? Double shoulder holster? Archer does not these things. You don't put a shoulder holster on a $900 turtleneck. Now I've got to do conversions. The shoulder holsters I can live with, but the Tec-9s absolutely have to go. If I wasn't going to chop it up I'd spend the 20 bucks for the resin master. But now I have to wait for the metal version. I'll have to decide whether to paint the turtleneck black or slightly darker black.

Yea, that's why I am waiting for the metal version of Jason Shaw to be released. I am going to swap out the weapons, and I don't want to start converting a $20 resin master cast. Admittedly, it would probably be easier to do the conversion on the resin model, but I am not going to start taking a hobby knife to an expensive resin master. The resin master makes sense to me if the model is perfect as is and I want an extremely high fidelity cast of it.

Well, I got my Hasslefree shipment, went with what came in the resin for Sedante, compared her to several other minatures GW IG, Kabuki models Napoleon-X dreanforge stomy, Sedante and GW's SM Captain [/img] As can be seen she stacks up pretty nicely compared to the models of 3 other manufacturers More pics here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/6210/326377.page

Nice that her head and hands are not insanely 1/35 scale on a 1/56 or 1/48 scale body!

I think Miniature Market has some of their stuff. Other than that, they sell directly through their own site only, which can be seen as a PITA, but for Hasslefree I'm willing to make an exception, they deserve every penny of it.

Hasslefree is very reasonable in terms of postage. S&H on my recent purchase was only a little over $5, and it arrived in less than two weeks.
In general, when it comes to smaller companies like Hasslefree, I prefer to purchase directly from the company anyway.

A fiver is very reasonable for international shipping. Then my only concern is if VAT gets tacked on, too. When the metal version pops up on their site, I'll place an order and see what the total damage is.

But to draw it out a bit more before they go on sale..
Ok Guys n Gals, I have a handful of pre-release metal castings of Justice Sedante and Maika von Ostwald sitting here doing not much of anything.
So, seeing as we've been a bit quiet of late (Been fixing some behind the scenes stuff), let's have a small giveaway.
While stocks last (I'll post here when they're gone) anyone ordering £50 or more through the site can write either 'Give me Maika!' or 'Give me Sedante!' in the comments box and I'll drop the one they pick into their order for FREE! grin emoticon

Oh and taken from Kev's little Q&A session, he's interested in more modern models. Its where they're making their sales, so he's wanting to expand them into using Eastern European weapons as well as making some British soldiers as well. If he keeps them paramilitary/special forces enough then I think they'll be fine, but if its just regular soldiers then Hasslefree will be entering into a fairly saturated market. =P

No i get that, it just doesn't look right is all. It looks like its come off an early 90s GW swordsman. Literally just that part of the sword. The sculpt of that section doesn't match up with the rest. Maybe Im just gibbering but it doesnt fit in or something. I dont know.

Yeah, the main guy who cast their metals died suddenly recently and that is part of the setback for their metals along with their relocation. I LOVE Kev's sculpts! Pretty much pic up anything he dose modern or Zombie/Survival themed as soon as the hit metals.
If he dose indeed go with more modern troops and such I think he will be fine for Force on Force stuff or skirmish style games, as long as their side intent isn't for something like 40K IG. That new Commissar looks like he scaled her up a little to me. Usually his stuff is noticeably smaller in bulk and height vs GW stuff ( but who isn't right?)
While some wont care some will. To each their own. I know I already have coin set aside for the next batch of metals!

You can't have a copyright on yourself but there is lots of likeness rights (especially in the US) that prohibit the use of a persons image without their consent.
Even if you are the rights holder of a photograph you have taken or a model you have sculpted, depicting another person, you might not be able to freely distribute that work without the consent of the person depicted.
Anyway; lots of cool stuff coming from Hasslefree. I just wish that the website would have thee possibility to browse all miniatures on one list instead of one sub-group at a time.

I feel that I need to take some time to write something about "The Wedding Planner" miniature I showed off on Friday.
Yes, it's supposed to look like G.R.R. Martin. I have wanted to get round to making a miniature of George since I had the good fortune of visiting him for a few days last year. He was a very generous host, especially considering the other demands on his time, and spent a good couple of hours just sat explaining (a small part of) his miniatures collection and giving me a history lesson about the hobby. While the time I spent with George was in a friendly and amicable atmosphere, I would not presume to say we were good friends because that kind of relationship doesn't happen in a couple of days. However, he made a very good impression and came across as a thoroughly nice guy and worthy King Of All Things Nerdy (first of his name and long may he reign).
It is my understanding that HF would have no legal problem what so ever from selling The Wedding Planner, given that there would be no use of terms or names associated with George or his works and that his image could be used under the guidelines of parody and fair use.... however from a moral point of view I want to get his permission before giving the miniature to Dameon for full production.
I will try to get in contact with George or his representatives later this week about this miniature and I will let you all know about its availability (or lack thereof) as and when I know myself

This... This is why we can't have nice things :(
Grrr that makes me so angry, because man I need *ALL* the AK's I can get my hands on. 1/35 scale don't cut it because even then the barrels are just too thin and prone to snapping off at the slightest touch. I need this style of gun which are better suited for tabletop gaming. I am hoping that they end up selling the guns separately, as I have a lot of modding I want to do with them.
Also, going to have to get that Furiosa. I have an idea for a war boy force swirling in my mind, but that's dependent on whether or not Wargames Factory release their biker apocalypse set any time soon.

I know, one of my favorites was the same way. Pacific Rim did poorly in the US but worldwide made about $400 million or so according to IMDB, with a $190 million budget. So it wasn't a huge blockbuster success like everything with a Marvel logo attached (seriously, judging from what some people say you'd think they were the only movies worth watching anymore), but it made a profit, and apparently did well enough to get a sequel in 2017. But since it only made like $100 million here everyone said it was a flop, and no one understands why they're going to waste time/money making a sequel because it was "obviously" a gakky bomb that didn't make its budget back.
Meanwhile the same people keep complaining about the seemingly endless spam of superhero movies and don't understand why studios aren't willing to take chances on stuff that's different.

That's not true anymore. Now people care about how movies perform in China, too. Pacific Rim is receiving a sequel almost solely due to the Chinese market.
If there is no guitar gimp mini, then Hasslefree is leaving money on the table...and then setting the table on fire. I hope we'll see a sniper granny at some point, too.

People don't buy DVDs of movies like they used to. The internet has killed that market. Movie studios now depend on international box office money to replace the DVD revenue stream. Major blockbusters made by the studios are designed to do well both domestically and internationally, that's why you see franchises like superheroes and Fast and Furious.
Guitar gimp would be sweet it would be great if flames were included.

Ginnifer 'Jynx' Monroe is one of the modern breed of Thaumaturges, using the Veil to reshape reality to their will. Seen here doing just that and creating a ball of energy to throw against the bad guys.
Jynx is a little bit of an odd mini for us, it delves into modern fantasy in a way that we don't normally do. She came about after a conversation on the Hasslefree Facebook page about miniatures for games like Shadowrun which are modern but also use magic and psychic powers etc.

(We aren't sure how this will cast in metal, we will give it a try when we get to her slot but it may not end up working that well)

Pretty sure she's meant to be a female Han Solo rather than anything Firefly related, hence the 'shoot first' bit. And the name, though it took me while to get that.
On a side note, what are HF minis like quality-wise? The metals on their site look a bit rough at times, it that might just be the pics. Anyone got any pics handy?
32186
Post by: Vain
No pics handy by their models are absolutely beautiful to work with. From my experience, lack of mold lines and sensible cuts/builds, make them a solid contender for "best" and even if they don't make it, they are definitely top 3.

I've been hugely impressed with the detail and finish of everything I've bought from them, which has so far only been the metals (Norse dwarves, some orcs and goblins, and a bunch of Fantasy and SF characters and some conversion bits... I love HF!).

Is there a good source for HS mini's in the USA? The shipping and $ to pound conversion makes for a pretty expensive model. I see that CMoN has some of the line, but it doesn't look like the complete one (at least at a glance... their web store is really irritating.)

FRP Games is probably your best bet. Their stock can be fairly limited, but they seem to have the entire catalog except the resins and some of the bits.

The main US distributors are Golden (formerly Warpath) and CMON,

HF customers have had a phishing type email. I got one overnight, and was suspicious (it's a fairly competent-looking scam but still a scam). They've sent out a warning email about it, which I've repeated below:
Scam Warning
Hey guys. Some of you may have received an email purporting to be from us about having won a voucher of some kind?
Do not click on anything in that email!
It's not from us, that's not our website address (it uses hyphens instead of periods). We would never charge you for anything you've won, we would never send an email asking for payment details for anything etc. Not do we use pop-ups in anythign we do.
We have no idea where it's from, it happened overnight for us here in the UK so we're only just able to start checking.
You can follow along at the FB thread HERE or we will be updating the front page of our actual website HERE.
The only bit of news I can tell you right now is that it doesn't seem likely to have anything to do with our attempted hack a little while ago. Because this scam email spoofed our email address then we are getting any bounces or out of office replies etc and some of those are 'not' in our customer database. We are awaiting the newsletter company we use and our tech guys to wake up so we can look into it more deeply.
Sorry to those of you this is happening for, we will update both places above as and when we know more. In the meantime the website is safe, as long as you go directly to it (Definitely double check the url if you happen to have had one of these emails just in case).
Thanks
Arty.

Big Halloween sale extended
We're Back! (Almost)
Our original plan was to fly back to the UK on the 16th, but I decided to surprise my beautiful wife with a weekend in Iceland on nthe way home.
She loves the sun, and the beach, and it's Iceland in October, what coud possibly go wrong?! (It's pretty amazing to be fair)
This means we are now back on the 19th and order start going out on the 20th. 'That' means...
Halloween Code Ends Tomorrow!
... this is about to be obsolete. The code will end on the 19th!
For those of you who missed it, use the code HALLOWEEN2015 to get 20% off everything by Hasslefree (or more with our already discounted multi-packs) and discounts off everything else.
Enter the code on the 'confirm' page, which is the last page before you pay. Do not write the code in the comments box, because...
Goody Bags Galore!
You may have followed the ridiculous overbuying of candy on our FB page recently. Well this should help with that
Throughout the entire month of October, even after the code ends, any order that's £50* or over will get a Halloween Goody Bag. Free minis, accessories, miscasts, bits 'n' bobs and special Haloween-themed trick or treat candy (Half of it is sour, half of it isn't!).
Not only that but, if you wish, you can write 'FANTASY', 'SCI-FI' or 'MODERN' in the comments section and we will theme the freebies in your goody bag accordingly. Everyone gets the halloween based ones regardless such as zombies, dressed up kids, decapitated goblin heads etc. but we will do our best to theme any extras to your request
(If you want 'BITZ' or just even more candy instead then feel free to request those too, request whatever ya like, typing is free )
*That's £50 after any applicable taxes such as VAT but before postage.
Backup Codes
For anyone who wants to make a second (or third!) order, or forthose of you who experienced a problem with your first attempt at the code, then there are 2 backup codes...
HALLOWEEN2015B & HALLOWEEN2015C
...aren't I inventive!
Use them in exactly the same way.
Wait, Red Box?
Yeah, right what happened is this. We have a fancy new voucher system, that allows us to apply it to various categories, products, etc. It's not working so that's out.
What we've done is adjusted the prices of Red Box products accordingly so the voucher now works on them to but it's only '10-20%' off. We figured as it's a bit of a faff you deserved something
(Anyone who has ordered the pre-order items, they are arriving while we are away and your order will be fixed accordingly )
We've also made sure all codes have a thumbnail and an image, even if it's just a temporary one, while we're away, making things a little easier for ya!
Share Please!
One of the things that's been super difficult to do on the road is access forums and do some advertising for the sale. As it's down to the last day and a half I thought I'd try and palm some of my work off to ask some of you guys and gals to help us out and let whatever forums, you are members of, know it's their last chance (or first chance if they hadn't known before).
We don't do big sales very often and it's always a little disheartening to have to let someone know when they ask whether there's a sale coming soon that it was last week, last month etc. and the next big one will be quite a while.
In fact, if anyone makes an order with the Halloween code after this newsletter comes out, and names you in the comments box, I'll throw a freebie in your next order (or your own sale order). One for every time someone names ya!

Some more nice expensive resins are up for pre-order:
Foster is the stereotypical 'trucker with a heart of gold' (What? That's a real stereotype!). A tough guy on the outside and marshmallow on the inside, seen here with his trademarked snarl, a Tec 9 and the most feared weapon in the truckers arsenal, the mullet.
He'll probably go through a change before metal, we're thinking about giving him a mutliple choice for his left hand, which means this'll be the only way to get him in single piece and that it'll be a while before he makes metal, more than our usual while.
Carol is ... well, she's Carol. The Zombocalypse didn't really change her much. She sees no need for any of those dirty, smelly, military clothes when a nice wool cardigan s good for most weather. She needs nothing she can't fit in her handbag and there's nothing about Apocalypse hair that a good set of curlers can't fix. In fact the only real change to Carol's life is she now has a little more space in her purse as she tens to keep her gun in her hand these days.
Tina "Bomb" Bomassini, likes include strawberry flavored bubblegum, Def Leppard and live fire exercises. Seen here about to change mag's and with the modern trooper 'Engineer' backpack.
This was sculpted by Patrick Keith, who many of you will already know from Bombshell Miniatures. It was part of a sculpt swap arranged with Kev (Who made a Sorceress for Patrick's last Kickstarter).
She, like Foster above, will also be going through some changes before metal. She may get an integral backpack or an extra gun choice or something.

Just want to give Hasslefree kudos for great customer service. I ordered stuff back on Black Friday but noticed I didn't get the discount code and I forgot to add a model I wanted.
I quick email later and they threw in the missing model for free in lieu of the discount. Then they found one of the metals was out of stock and threw in a more expensive resin instead.

From Facebook:
Powered Armour Libby redux.....
It's high time she got a remake and I am taking advantage of the fact that Beesputty doesn't set until I want it to in order to play with her armour plates.
The idea for this pose is that she'll be hovering on a jump pack with a couple of big guns pointing forward over her shoulders.
Yes, she has a piece of metal up her bum. Please don't make me think less of you by making stupid jokes about it, because I'm too sober for that gak. Everyone can see it's there to support her while sculpting takes place tongue emoticon
Powered Armour KJ......
The counterpart mini of both Chipster and PA Libby.
I plan on making the whole family, in much the same way as the barbarian gang from last year. Possibly with their anthro-doggie companions wink emoticon
His pose is one where he's landing after a jump pack assisted leap. And, yes, his arms will be posed properly; one behind him to stabilise his flight and the other holding a gun.

Good point, but I thought she was using a jet pack and not still a noob. Iron Man's poses tended to be a lot less sprawled once he mastered his system.
Still, I would want Iron Man shooting, too, rather than back pedaling through the sky.

We're also at a time when a lot of our older moulds are coming to an end. This month alone we had to make 3 new moulds for top selling older figures (Sana, Alicia and Harby). We are investing more in moulding though to try and rectify the situation. Salute will help as we normally try to get 2 months worth of releases moulded to sell as pre-releases at the show.
We have more metal releases coming this month and then 2 sets of moulds lined up for 2 more sets of releases in March. We're hoping that within 3 or 4 months our resin to metal turnaround will be down to 2 months, which is where we'll probably leave it.
