Had myself a little trip to Warhammer World with some friends yesterday. Sooo much hobby awesomeness in there. Stunning dioramas. Unfortunately, it's a bit Gandalf says in LOTR.
I would use this ring(wallet) from a desire to do good... But through me, it would wield a power too great and terrible to imagine.
I ended up spending money new stuff, despite the no-buy oath I swore. It's not 2017 yet though, so I think I'm OK .
Got myself a Lord-Celestant on foot, and a Kytan Daemon Engine for my brother's Black Legion. I also bought a set of those new shiny Artificer Tints, so I look forward to tinkering with them. Oh and some bottles of the green Sons of Horus airbrush paints.
My mate, on the other hand, bought himself the awesome Tau'nar Supremacy suit with the giant triple rail cannon things and triple ion blaster thingies. The last gasp before he becomes a father I guess lol.
I'm glad there's an ocean between me and forgeworld/GW main, it's bad enough having Miniaturemarket in my back yard. Looking forward to next year and Tzeentch .
Hello, all! Ending 2016 on a high note- up to my eyeballs in 'orrid cold/fluey goop. The past few days have been pretty good, though. I've been soldiering on (hur-hur!)and trying my best to get some models done.
The Knights of the Aurora chamber are renowned for fast strikes followed by brutal force, so I'll be picking up another set of Prosecutors (flying guys) to advance ahead of my main force with the Knight-Venator (flying shooty guy) on anti-Monster patrol.
This month I will try and get my Stormcasts completed so I can have the excuse to build my next unit- Decimators. I realise I may have mentioned these a few pages back, though I confess I've been a bit of a hobby butterfly this past year, not really focusing on one particular project. In 2017 I hope to change that.
Forgive the terrible army shot:
Spoiler:
You may have noticed a new addition, a mighty Lord Celestant wielding a rune blade and hammer. Gave him a little upgrade and stuck him on one of the shiny new hero bases.
Spoiler:
Oh and finally, I hope you all had a restful Christmas and I wish you all a Happy New Year and let's hope 2017 isn't as much of a gak show as 2016 was.
The army shot doesn't look like anything special right now, but knowing you via this thread I've got no doubts that in a few months it'll look utterly amazing. Have at it!
Cheers folks. Struggling a bit this month as I'm out of the nerd den for a while due to having no hot water :(.
In the meantime, I'll (at least, trying to) take a crack at the Burning of Prospero board game this weekend. My brother and I managed to get enough models assembled to play a few scenarios. I'll be using Drenn Redblade and Jensus Natorian from DW Overkill to represent Fell-Hand and Ahriman respectively for now as they're in the grey pile of shame. The Tartaros terminators will be represented by my Cataphractii as my brother hasn't built them yet. Got a serious itch to scratch, though, painting wise. Ugh.
"...Let those who worship evil's might. Beware my power!"
Still not got any hobbying done since I still don't have any hot water at my place, and I've been dealing with general life bullgak.
Supply drop!
The Lord Veritant arrives from Azyr to judge those who dabble in Chaos sorcery, with his trusty gryph-hound. Wielding his Lantern of Abjuration and Judgement Blade. I've also been reading a bit about them in the latest AoS novel, City of Secrets by Nick Horth. Granted, the Knights Excelsior chamber are a pretty zealous (serious levels of douche) bunch, the Lord Veritant comes across as a particularly intimidating chap. The Lantern of Abjuration also seems to have some Lasso of Truth type power. The lantern shines on the suspect and pulls any secrets from their mind.
Pretty decent rules on this fellow: Can unbind 1 spell (as a wizard would do) in each enemy hero phase, and also has an ability called Sanction. This allows them to fry an enemy wizard within 7" on a 4+, inflicting D3 mortal wounds. The Gryph-hounds that come with the Stormcast Eternal models are pretty monstrous(40mm base) compared to the ones you get with the War Priest in Silver Tower(32mm base). I can have a Gryph-hound accompanying him into combat which allows it to have 4 attacks instead of 2, and adds 3 to the spell unbinding roll if the pooch is within 6".
Spoiler:
Here's what he'll look like when assembled:
Spoiler:
On a 30/40K related note,I got a big stompy Deredeo dreadnought in the mail, with some huge lascannons and aiolos missile launcher . Oh, and some MkIII Dark Angel pauldrons for my Legion guys
*blows dust off* Hello all *cough*. Been a while since I updated this!
There's a fair bit in the way of updates to come here, including some game reports from Betrayal at Calth and Burning of Prospero. Spoiler alert: Custodes are rock hard in Prospero lol. I have so far, only managed to kill 1.
I will also (hopefully) be having a go at WHQ: Shadows Over Hammerhal later today, so that should be interesting! I didn't get a lot done, painting wise in January, and most of this month. That should change now I have myself a project box (GW's- it's actually pretty good) and new lamp/lightbox to do stuff with.
Anyways, on to the hobby stuff
First up is my Tzeentch Magister- I think I posted that up a while back. I love this model- he's a freaky little guy. He's not far off from being done, I've just got to sort his flesh, base and staff out. I dug out the Kairic adept Paint Splatter article on the Warhammer Community site for the subtle magic effect on the weapon.

Spoiler:
I've settled on this paint scheme for my Tzeentch Arcanites force. It doesn't look too hard to achieve and it should look pretty nice!
Spoiler:
Next up, is the Lord Veritant and Lord Castellant of my Stormcast Eternals force. I've only started painting the Veritant so far, but I think the Castellant should look pretty nice when done . I have a growing pack of gryph hounds for this lot now too. When (if) I've finished my Stormcast backlog, I think I'll pick the pack of 6 up that's just come out.
Spoiler:
Some pretty fantastic sculpts in the Stormcast range lately.
Lord Veritant and Lord Castellant

Lord Veritant WIP

Spoiler:
New desk lamp
Spoiler:
Pretty good for taking pics too
Spoiler:
So that's it for now, I'll be back later for some 30K and WHQ awesome .
I had a little break from the Lord Veritant and had a go at painting the Cogsmith from the Shadows over Hammerhal box. Nice little mini, but I'm now not sure where to go with the beard. Whilst on Januine's Twitch stream, someone suggested to give him a red beard. Do we think that's too bright? I had thought of grey but that will probably get lost in amongst all the silver.
Spoiler:
Also made a start on the Steloc Aethon mini from the Betrayal at Calth box, now that he's been blooded in a game. Looks pretty nice in Dark Angels legion colours .
Spoiler:
Plus I've been adding some terrain for my 40k/30k games
Spoiler:
As well as building a set of gryph-hounds for my Stormcasts (there's actually 9 in this unit- 3 of which didn't make it into this photo.)
Got a wee bit more done on the Lord Veritant last night . Stuck his badge of office thingy on his chest and got that painted up a bit, as well as doing some details on his lantern and helmet plumage.
He's coming up very nicely, as is the Steloc Aethon. You could always give the Cogsmith a reddish-brown beard. It'd add a bit of colour without going over the top.
Azazelx wrote: He's coming up very nicely, as is the Steloc Aethon. You could always give the Cogsmith a reddish-brown beard. It'd add a bit of colour without going over the top.
I went for blonde in the end, since I don't have all of my paints with me. Just the project box worth of stuff.
I've also gone and bought the Deathworld Forest kit... It's a rather big kit...
Azazelx wrote: The sword has come up great, mate. The Destroyers have some serious potential as well. DA head there on the rad-gunner?
Cheers, Azazel . I'm pretty happy with it!
Yes mate. They will be Dreadwing supposedly, which makes sense given their use of the really nasty gak. Interestingly, the Dreadwing use a skull hourglass as their emblem. So it looks like they were the genesis of the Star Phantoms chapter in 40K. Seems odd, though, that the Star Phantoms don't appear to have the nasty toys from M31 anymore(even if they are down to 400 marines). Dark Angels came out of the Heresy better off than most of the Legions, gear-wise.
Took a little break from the Lord Veritant and opted for a little change
Primed up 5 acolytes and an Adept. Which then morphed into painting the Adept. Really fun model to paint despite my earlier doubts about painting all the flesh. Blocked out all the colours then went over the gold and the flesh with reikland fleshshade. Also prepped the eye jewels for the gemstone paint. Though I may change my mind with one or two to have them be actual eyes.
Spoiler:
Also caved and bought the freaky deathworld forest kit... it's a rather big kit... going to be using it for both AoS and 40k.
Hello again all! Got some building done last night .
A full unit of Kairic Acolytes assembled and a few primed up for painting. As well as some Blightkings (and a head swapped Plague Lord), courtesy of my brother.
Army so far:
Spoiler:
Acolyte with pet Vulcharc: I put this guy on a 40mm base for ease of transport since the birdie overhangs on a 32mm, thus increasing the possibility of being broken off.
Spoiler:
Acolyte with glaive and mutated facemask
Spoiler:
Annnd finally the kinda creepy Blightkings... notice anything familiar on one of them? Hint: looks like an OLD Nurgle model from back in the early days...

Is there mention of the Star Phantoms being a successor chapter? I just had a look at them - 23rd founding so it could be that they just have a symbol in common with the Dreadwing (how many chapters use skulls? or Eagle Wings?) or even that they're based on DA gene-stock, though that wouldn't imply that they have any direct connection to the Dark Angels in terms of being part of the Unforgiven or having Heresy-Era DA equipment.
Acolytes are coming along nicely - are they the ones from Silver Tower or the standalone/Hammerfal ones? They seem to be monopose?
8 of them are Silver Tower acolytes which are monopose guys. The other 9 are the standalone guys included in Hammerhal. Please note there should be 10 with Hammerhal, but I ended up being a pair of legs short. We'll see if gw will send out another sprue or kit lol.The acolyte box set is pretty nice and has a good range of poses. I'm splitting them into dual wield and shield guys just so I don't have to mess about in games.
I see what you're saying Azazel, I think this is the kind of discussion that GW encourages to be honest!
The Karic's looking really good there. I think the pale flesh suits well.
I've got a couple of questions for you about Execution Force: And yeah, I have the game out in the shed, but I haven't played it yet or opened up the card packs, etc
Does it matter how the Chaos Sorceror is armed?
Does it matter how the Cultists are armed?
I'm working on putting together an IW sorceror, but I want it to look really different, so I'm not using the Lord model at all, and similarly, I've got a whole lot of cultists, so I'm wanting to know if I need to paint specific models or if I can sub models in and out without any issue?
Lord Drask is armed with a force staff and combi-melta. Cultists are armed with auto pistols and close combat weapons or auto rifles. Then youve got your traitor marines with bolters. For interest: There's also rules for daemons in one of the recent white dwarfs.
This past week, I've been working on my freshly assembled Kairic Acolytes for my Disciples of Tzeentch. I've also been working on my miniatures photography with my lightbox. On to the pics!
Kairic Acolytes WIP:
Mostly just blocking in the colours (Rakarth Flesh, Retributor Gold, Leadbelcher, Screamer Pink and Celestra Grey) and a few initial washes (Reikland Fleshshade, Druchii Violet) here. I mixed it up a bit with the Screamer Pink since not all of them have the loin cloth bit on them.
So.Much.Flesh to paint. Ugh.
Spoiler:
Lightbox-ness:
I went and had a gander at the Warhammer Community page again and had a pop at using my (phone) camera more effectively. Here's how that went. Bear in mind, I still need to go back and do some bits on this mini but I think he really pops in this pic.
Nice WIP on the Stormcast dude. I really need to get started on mine sometime, but in the meantime I'm enjoying watching you and the other talented painted here get through your guys.
Someone's been watching Duncan in the past few days! Cloak looks great, mate. If you add a tiny highlight using silver to the gold I think it'll look fine. Even a mix of gold and silver to get a really pale gold for the highlight.
Stormwall wrote: Fantastic model, regardless of what you do concerning the gold.
Cheers, Stormwall!
Speaking of gold...
I spent a bit of time yesterday base-coating my Custodes squad and cleaning up my Sisters of Silence for painting. Then got carried away painting the test model for my Custodes and...well...
After a couple of nights of painter's block, I managed to get started again on my Cataphractii and a test model for Sisters of Silence.
Cataphractii
The Cataphractii armour is pretty ideal for dry brushing with all the hard edges on it. As are the combi-bolters for that matter. For the black armour, I hit it with Dark Reaper and Fenrisian Grey. Then on the bolters, I dry brushed Mechanicus Standard Grey (to be followed by Administratum Grey.)
Spoiler:
Sisters of Silence
For these, I'm just going with GW's Tip of the Day video scheme, more or less. I didn't get as much done on her as I'd have liked, sadly. My Sycorax Bronze basically went to gak in the pot. Regardless of how much frantic pot shaking and adding ball bearings to it :-(. No armour highlighting for me :(.
Spoiler:
I also paid a little visit to Pop Goes the Monkey's ( https://www.shapeways.com/shops/popbits )web store on Shapeways to get me some sweet Successor chapter pauldrons for my Deathwatch. By no means cheap, but it allows for a bit more variety.
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
One last thing... I'm now in possession of x2 copies of Shadow War Armageddon . Sector Mechanicus incoming!
It's all looking good so far have the sisters and custodes been sent to determine the loyalty of your dark angels? Look forward to seeing a group shot.
JamesY wrote:It's all looking good so far have the sisters and custodes been sent to determine the loyalty of your dark angels? Look forward to seeing a group shot.
Both in 30k and 40k. Also, Sisters of Silence should shut down my brother's Tyranid psykers pretty nicely .
Bottle wrote:Can't wait to see how those successors shoulder pads turn out. Great idea!
I had a short break from the hobby for a few days, but yesterday I set to work on building the awesome new Sector Mechanicum scenery that comes with Shadow War: Armageddon. Managed to get the first set of core buildings assembled so there are just the walkways to go at now. Really gorgeous kit . I think the plastic is similar to the stuff they use on the Sector Imperialis but obviously with a good deal more detail on the moulds.
Spoiler:
I also started building the Scouts kill team, starting with Brother Blain and his heavy bolter, "Old Painless"
Spoiler:
Pop Goes the Monkey
In other news, I received my awesome new shoulder pads from Shapeways. These are really nice! Very sharp detail.
I've been a little busy with my Dark Angels Legion lately, trying to slog my way through the troops so I can get on to the fun stuff. I made a vow to not build anything else til I get this lot done. It's proving a little difficult because my options for paint schemes and legion markings is limited until the next big black HH book, Angelus comes out. I guess I can get everything else done while I wait!
Yesterday's announcement of the 8th Edition of 40K has given me a little nudge on the hobby side. Hopefully, it should make for a much more enjoyable experience than 6th and 7th ed 40K.
Anyways, here's my first 8 tactical marines, on their way to being painted up .
Spoiler:
I'm a little stuck with the crozius and inside of the cloak. I was thinking either a red, bone white or just black for the cloak. Not sure about the crozius, though. What do you guys think?
More or less finished this Carcharodons fella . Looks pretty violent, yes? I'm considering repainting the beard of the chainaxe in either his chapter colours or bare metal. What do we think? I also painted the teeth on his chain axe in bone to make it look like he'd used the teeth of some super predator or whatever.
Void-Brother Ke'ohi (Pronounced keh O hee)
Spoiler:
And this weekend I managed to polish off the construction of my first box of Sector Mechanicus. Throw in some promethium pipes, void shield generator, the munitorum containers and voila... decent size gaming table for skirmishing! Now all I need is a little battle mat or board section.
The Legion is looking promising. How well do the Shapeways pads fit/compare to the official ones? Really like the build on that Carcharodon as well. I've been tempted to paint up a squad of those guys for a few years now, and of course putting him into the Deathwatch works perfectly.
Also in agreement with the good Doctor. I'm very jealous of all that SW:A scenery. It looks great!
evildrcheese wrote:The black on the inside of the cloak actually looks really good with the green outside and black armour.
Gold would be my go to for the crozius, if you wanted to differentiate it from the gold on the armour you could try doing it in NMM perhaps?
Nice job on the Carcharodon terminator, the bone teeth for the chain axe is an excellent touch.
Totally jealous of all that new terrain you've got built up :p
EDC
Cheers EDC, Yeah it's bloody marvellous stuff the Sector Mechanicus kit. I need more . Didn't bother with NMM on the crozius, and I also went with a deep red on the inside of the cloak. Might go back and change the colour of the beard on the axe.

The Shapeways pauldrons are pretty great. Terminator ones don't cover quite as well as the GW plastics, but it does allow you to see the layers of armour involved in Terminator suits.
Paid a visit to WarhammerFest on Sunday, which was a nice opportunity to talk to Holly Goodwin about her work on the decals (and give her a nudge about the Dark Angels Legion decals ). I still have box #2 to build for the SWA terrain.
JamesY wrote:Nice progress mate. How have you found Shapeways? There are a couple of bits I fancy, but the p&p seems overly high.
The whole lot was dear, but my god they look fething amazing on minis . Shapeways was pretty damn quick to dispatch the stuff as well! PGTM has also started making insignias to mount on the pauldrons for minis.
Automatically Appended Next Post: In other news... I gone dun stuff!
Been flitting around a bit like a hobby butterfly to keep things fresh and stave off the hobby fatigue.
Here's a bunch of things I've been on with the past couple of weeks.
Tzeentch stuff: Sons of the Cyclops Rubricae WIP.
Spoiler:
Tzaangor Twist-bray with a really big fething sword...
Spoiler:
And finally a Blue Horror gribbly which was surprisingly fun to paint!
Spoiler:
And now for some Deathwatch: (Just a WIP at the moment. Needs more doing)
Spoiler:
I went back and did some more work on Garran Branatar also:
And finally, WarhammerFest 2017 loot:
Ixion Hale
Legion Praetor with combi-volkite and thunder hammer
Traitor Librarian (not my paint job here just a google img)
I had no idea how huge Ixion is, he is probably my favourite FW miniature ever...just so much character.
First time going to WarhammerFest so I don't have any basis for comparison lol. Only went on day 2. It was pretty quiet compared to saturday supposedly.
As you might have guessed, I have a new box of plastic crack to play with! Space Marine Big 'Uns and Nurgle gribblies. Picked up this mighty box of stuff on Tuesday, and it didn't disappoint!
I've assembled this lot, so far. Bloody lovely stuff! I'm going to have to paint the Captain and the Inceptors (Jump pack guys) in sub-assemblies, as the cowls hide a good bit of their heads.
Spoiler:
Primaris Captain
Primaris Lieutenant with Auto Boltrifle
Hellblaster with plasma incinerator
Inceptor orbital drop trooper with assault bolters. Basically miniaturized heavy bolters
Annnd a Nurgle Sorcerer (Januine doesn't like this model )
I also took some time to return to my House Stark Knight over the past couple of weeks. Neatened up some of the silver trim and built up the layers of Ushabti Bone to get a solid colour. Brought all my armour panels back except 1 thigh plate. FFS!. I'm also working out the decal placement in the hopes of breaking the painting standstill on this guy.
All looks good. I have to agree with Jan about that sorcerer, I'll be head swapping him without question. What chapter are you going to do the marines?
Just a quick WIP pic for you all . Gotta say, Primaris marines look really imposing on the tabletop! Bloody chest eagles... always do one side perfect and then splorch on the other...ffs.
Master Azalle wrote:are you spraying caliban green?
Yes mate. Bloody marvellous stuff!

Yeah, same here. They need to go back to doing more kits with bionics options on them tbh.

Cheers guys! I did some work on his face last night and here's how that went. It was maybe a little too hot (26C!) for painting last night.
Initially I was a tad disappointed as I thought this was going to be an Iron Man inspired Knight, but then I saw the painting. Excellent work AOV looks as good as done to me, what are you planning on adding?
ListenToMeWarriors wrote:Initially I was a tad disappointed as I thought this was going to be an Iron Man inspired Knight, but then I saw the painting. Excellent work AOV looks as good as done to me, what are you planning on adding?
Got plans for a Jaime Lannister Knight for #2. I'm thinking Reaper chainsword and Thunderstrike gauntlet (in gold, naturally!). Then a melta-gun and missiles/Icarus autocannons for the carapace. Question is, Khorne Red or Mephiston Red? I'm thinking the former would be better.
I return- with all sorts of hobby shenanigans underway!
I caved and bought myself a copy of the fantastic Shadespire. And my FLGS being a legend, managed to get it for me waaaay in advance.
Spoiler:
With the assistance of the movie 300, I set to work on one of the first female Stormcast models. May I introduce the rather badass WIP of Angharad (painted up in my Knights of the Aurora colours, of course):
Spoiler:
I've also been on with Dark Eldar, Blood Angels and a bit of Dark Angels. Pretty fun paint projects so I've managed to get a fair bit done with these as well.
Nephilim jetfighter:
Spoiler:
Also, I've been building the Rhino Primaris and Land Raider Excelsior for Dark Angels and Blood Angels respectively . Don't have the excelsior photo yet, but here's the Rhino Primaris. Great little kits.
Spoiler:
And then finally, a bunch of Blood Angels Primaris for my Angels of Death force. (Leaning more toward the Dark Angels though lol.)
So first up is the Primaris Captain
Spoiler:
Primaris Sergeant.
Spoiler:
Primaris Inceptors:
Spoiler:
Blood Angels Primaris group shot:
Spoiler:
Finally, we have some filthy Xenos Troupe Master
Spoiler:
Razorwing Jetfighter

Raider, Ravager and Razorwing basecoated
Spoiler:
Whew! So there we go, lotsa hobby stuff done, despite the absence on here .
Cheers mate . Trying to knock down my pile o grey some more . I may be selling some of my stuff, as I know I'll never physically be able to get around to everything.
Been working on my Shadespire party lately, focussing on Steelheart's Champions, which will then be followed by Garrek's Reavers.
Severin is nearly done, just got to finish a few bits and pieces, like his head, sword, pteruges etc.
Spoiler:
Oberyn just needs some final highlights on his parchment and some highlights on his pauldrons and pteruges. Then that'll be all of them ready for a scrap in Shadespire .
The pair of Stormcast look really impressive. I've yet to have time to crack open my set. This time of work is usually a nightmare, and this year is certainly no exception. Khorne next?
Azazelx wrote: The pair of Stormcast look really impressive. I've yet to have time to crack open my set. This time of work is usually a nightmare, and this year is certainly no exception. Khorne next?
Yes. Though I'll admit that I'm not looking forward to all the skin tones lol.
Hello, one and all. Hope you're all having a fairly decent 2018 so far. I'm back once again. I've been taking a little break from Dakka, but in my absence, I have not been idle. In true hobby butterfly fashion, I've been flitting from project to project.
I've been enjoying the hell out of 8th ed 40k. Plays far better than previous editions IMO. I don't have time to post pics of some of the games right now, but maybe later.
Continuing on with my Angels of Death, I've been struggling a little with the Inceptors flight stands as they kept snapping off, so I snipped the arsehole cup bit off the stem and the bit of plastic it sits in and magnetized it . Job done! I then went and bought some more Primaris Intercessors and Reivers 10 man squads, which I shall be divvying up between Deathwatch, Blood Angels and Dark Angels forces. The FW legion head and pauldron upgrades are also worth investing in if you want to make your Primaris prettier. Or any spare pauldrons you've got going really. So, without further ado, here is my Primaris and elites heavy Blood Angels force so far:
Spoiler:
Next up, are some Dark Angels. I haven't been going as heavy on these as the Blood Angels, but I have been enjoying the change of scene:
Spoiler:
Annnd finally some Deathwatch:
Spoiler:
So yeah, not much slacking happening here . Just slow painting.
Hope you're all well and thanks for stopping by. I hope to be updating this a bit more regularly than I have been.
Been on a push to paint some Necrons and in general, clear up some of my backlog of stuff. Also, I've been going back and stripping some poorly painted Destroyers from years ago. Thanks to Forgebane's release, I have a pretty decent block of Canoptek constructs.
The WIP army so far:
Spoiler:
New hotness Cryptek WIP:
Spoiler:
Cobbled together Cryptek (not sure what to do with him. Needs more stuff on him I think?Thoughts?Might get hold of a plastic wraith tail and stick him on that)

Spoiler:
That's all for now, I'm off to see how the 8th ed Codex Necrons perform in battle.
