I like the hoods on the tactical marines. The Deathwing Knights are just massively over the top. Plus if they're supposed to be in the thick of the fight, it makes sense to me to have helmets on.
Otherwise what's your board like? Or the one you play on the most? Those cork-mat things seem to make pretty epic rocky bases to boost space marines to a more appropriate height too.
I'm pretty lazy with my bases. I use GW's textured paint, then dry brush with one of their dry paints, then wash it down with Agrax Earthshade. Its simple but looks good enough for me.
My board? Well it's usually either the Grassy Plains or Blasted Landscape 6'x4' Frontline Gaming mat (you've seen the grassy one) and then there's the Deadzone mats which I have 5 of if you include the paper one.
**Not my images- harvested from the Frontline KS page
Though rocky bases like those imperial fists would work alright on either.
Like maybe put them all on rock slabs (gravel or cork both work fine) with flock/static grass on the portions of the bases that aren't particularly tall? Maybe a tuft of tall grass to waist height on a few of them?
The chibitalon almost looks like it needs a chopper blade or something. The Dark Talon at least has some length and bigger wings, though not really aerodynamic, it's chunky in that charming 40k/space marine manner.
angelofvengeance wrote: I like the hoods on the tactical marines. The Deathwing Knights are just massively over the top. Plus if they're supposed to be in the thick of the fight, it makes sense to me to have helmets on.
Yeah they're getting the Grey Knight paladin head treatment. How's that for kinigitly awesomeness PS> LOL'd at "Chibitalon". Is that what the internet is calling Stormtalons these days?
Speaking of Stormtalons, I was looking at converting a Nephilim into one and found this rather AWESOME A10 Warthog style conversion. Kudos to whoever made this!
Painting wise, what do we think? Be lazy and glue the Nephilim canopy on then paint it up? Or paint it all including the inside of the cockpit and just paint the frame of the canopy?
I was going to paint the frame and do all the details for my talon but.. .I dunno. The more I think about it the more likely I am to just slap it down and paint over the whole thing. If I don't glue it down too hard I could always pop it back off and paint the interior for fun(unlikely though). They could probably make those kits so much cheaper by not modeling the internals but I know a lot of people go crazy for that stuff. And it is neat. Really depends on if you want a game piece or a display piece.
Paint the canopy, we all have too much in our likes of shame to waste time on interior details. Also acrylic bases with opponent bits on them, that way they blend into the board and thee the army as well.
Wow, those heads look great on the DWK bodies, really badass. I look forward to seeing what you do with Death storm, and BA and DA do play nicely together, probably even more so with whateved the new codex brings.
Yeah they do look pretty badass with those! You will also note in the first pic, my Deathwing Sergeant (centre of the middle row) packing a gigantic power sword.
Is that one of the trademark grey knight nemesis super mcbadass pants swords? I got a batch of those and I'm currently handing them out like candy to my honor guards
Automatically Appended Next Post: I may have to see what eBay thinks about hooking me up with some of those heads, might look pretty cool on my HG, still fishing around for just the right look.
Grim, be aware that this heads might not work too well on PA bodies, even with truescaling. I have tried a few times over the years, but they always end up looking oversized on anything but Terminators.
I will indeed be keeping the whole shebang. I'm going to be having a small strike team of BA 1st Company and Death Company led by Captain Karlaen and Calistarius. I have Mephiston (I know, same person but I used Calistarius as a ref to the terminator libby from SH) as well but he needs a replacement sword as the guy I got him from lost it! (Plus I had to do oodles of paint stripping as he was heavily painted)
The Tyranids will go to my brother for his Hive Fleet Behemoth swarm. Kinda regretting buying it now as he will benefit from a 5th Carnifex,3rd Brood Lord, Stealers and Warrior Brood! What have I done?!
The Campaign book is quite lovely. Some really nice quality art in there as well as fluff!
As an honorable mention: Karlaen and SoC (Spawn of Cryptus) kits look the business! As do the Death Company (first time I've owned the newer BA stuff)
I've decided I'm going to use the Space Hulk terminators for the Deathstorm Campaign, simply because they look SO MUCH MORE BADASS & IMPOSING than your bog standard kit. Plus, I put Captain Karlaen together last night. But wimped out on doing anything else, as 1 fan heater just doesn't have the nuts to keep you warm in my hobby room with this weather bomb we're having here. (Block and beam room, so no insulation at all- there are radiators in but I can't get em to work)
I think I'll finish off Brother Goriel (Genestealer spine rip guy in the back) as he sends out a much stronger "feth you Xenos" to my brother when we get around to playing the campaign lol.
Captain K is a neat model and should fit in nicely with the SH ones.
What are your plans for the Deathstorm Termies? Because from the looks of it, the new shiny BA Assault Termies kit has enough claws and hammers to kit out 10 guys, and plenty of shiny bits to go around. You could get a very nice 5&5 Assault Termie squad from the two kits!

Not sure yet, might use the back bit of the torsos and combine them with the Deathwing front torsos to add another 5 man squad to my Deathwing. I left the larger section of Karlaen's cloak off to get at the back of his armour and paint his tramp stamp plate and grilles.
I totally head swapped Karlaen with one of the bare heads from the DC sprue, also slightly repositioned his leading leg, I agree on it being an awesome model though.
If I ever get painting we could get one hell of a combined Blood Angel/ Marine force between the lot of us.
While I don't mind the occasional "mop head" on my Blood Angels, I certainly won't be having a lot of them. I much prefer the bald, mohawk or short back and sides bare heads. Sure, Sanguinius was the pretty boy of the Primarchs (well, him and Fulgrim) I think the Astartes look more warrior like with the former style.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: I totally head swapped Karlaen with one of the bare heads from the DC sprue, also slightly repositioned his leading leg, I agree on it being an awesome model though.

So it'd be Dark Angels DW, RW, 5th and 10th Companies strike force with Blood Angels Archangels, SG, DC and warriors from a Battle Company/Reserve. Plus your Hawk Lords stuff lol. That'd make for an almighty Apocalypse team haha.
Out of interest, what are your thoughts on the new Blood Angels codex? Personally, I really like most of the changes, I just feel the HQ slot is a tad busy with Priests in there now.
I quite like it. It looks like a fair bit of Ward's stuff has been removed from it. A more sensible approach to the Blood Angels- similar to a standard Codex Astartes chapter but with their own unique units. What boggles my mind though is, how the heck do they get anything done with 43 Land Raiders but only 3 Thunderhawk transporters to deliver them! Though I suspect that's to represent that they're struggling a bit. I'd be saying to the Mechanicum- less praying and more fething building! lol.
angelofvengeance wrote: What boggles my mind though is, how the heck do they get anything done with 43 Land Raiders but only 3 Thunderhawk transporters to deliver them!
Basically, they realised the T-hawk drop approach just wasn't fast enough, so they cut out the middle man and just launch them straight from the cruisers. Hey, they're void-sealed!
So it's safe to say, that 32mm bases make Death Company jump troops look A LOT more intimidating.
I've cheated and assembled just Karlaen, Cassor and Squad Raphen. The Space Hulk terminators will be more than sufficient to fulfill the role of Squad Alphaeus (and a lot more badass looking)
For me, the jury is still out on 32s vs 25s. While I do like the extra bulk of the 32s, and the extra stability, I'm certainly not mixing both in one army, so my BA will be finished on 25s. My next SM army, whatever that may be, will likely be on 32s as it's easier than scrounging/hoarding old bases, but to finish my Ultras and BA I think I'll stick with 25s.
Cheers! The DA dread has a twin Autocannon and Assault Cannon arm as alternative weapons. I kinda botched the banner a bit I think. My freehand isn't good enough to paint the wings on the chapter logo and the bloody transfers don't fit on it!
Looks good enough to me. If you can get a fine pen and trace the outline of the symbol then it might stand out more against the cream portions of the banner, but other than that I say it's a good effort!
I sense there could be a bit of a diversion coming my way. Just been in the Necron rumours thread and it looks like an awesome new plastic-crack scythe wielding Lord/Overlord is coming out. As well as a plastic Cryptek.
I quite like the thunder hammer and power fists ones myself. Look very smite-y. The power fist one in particular looks like he's barreling out of the sky to wreck someone's parade.
What do we think to the Legion Praetor being used as a Captain? I think he has a good Blood Angel vibe to him, as his armour and weapons looks like it says "this gak is custom bro!"
Death Company it is then... Stand by for pics this weekend I may paint Cassor instead of the squad though... did I mention I like my dreadnoughts? Only got 3 or 4 *cough*
Automatically Appended Next Post: On a further note... it's big, it's stompy and ancient...
It's...a relic..
++EVEN IN DEATH, I STILL SERVE++
Got this for xmas WOOT. GRAV GUN for the Sons of the Lion!
As well as some DA etched brass to bling things up some more..
Quick question also- will heads from Contemptors fit on the Legion Praetor in Terminator armour?
Paradigm wrote: Are you sure that's a Graviton Gun? Looks like a Plasma Cannon to me. Which I actually would think of as better than Grav, to be honest.
Sorry, I should've explained it better. It's mounted in the power claw. You can have a built in plasma blaster or graviton gun.
I didn't think people took grav on tactical squads so much because salvo or something. I thought it was bikes, centurions, and the like. Does suck that DA came out first and 'Nilla got more toys
If I were playing for realsies I may still favor DA though.
I haven't gotten any contemptors yet. I'm just not sure if I like them compared to their cousins. I'm starting to think I may just paint my dreads from a bunch of different chapters for display purposes. Maybe source a few more, pick up a Hellbrute or two before they get scarce eventually.
GrimDork wrote: I haven't gotten any contemptors yet. I'm just not sure if I like them compared to their cousins. Not much chance of that- they've released an all new plastic kit for the Helbrute this year, so it's no longer Dark Vengeance exclusive..
Also- I think the Contemptor is supposed to be a revision of this:
Spent most of my day doing xmassy things so just a small update I'm afraid. Sadly, the weather wasn't decent enough to allow me to go outside to spray up my DC dreadnought. So I decided to get working on my Contemptor. After spending a good while cleaning him up for assembly... there's NO fething INSTRUCTIONS telling you how to put it together. I jumped on Google to see if I could find a PDF copy. Nada. Though it is interesting that Contemptor Dreadnought instructions was the 3rd thing that popped up when you type forgeworld contemptor in..
Anyways after a few minutes tinkering I figured it all out. Sadly, I was missing a Carnifex head for him to rest his ceramite boot on so I'll probably be raiding my brother's bitz box at some point.
I also had a test run with a Death Company jump marine today. My fething god, no wonder they get the Black Rage. All those blood drops you have to paint!
Without further ado, here is brother power-fist-Smashius Maximus WIP
Blood drop looks good. Hit it with some kind of shiny red ink or some 'ard coat or similar and put a little dot of white in the right spot for the full on gem effect, or leave it as is--either way it looks good already.
I like the company master guy. Good use of the mace and I have a soft spot for the not-lionhelm DA bunny ears.
I still can't resolve combiweapons that have the one-shot weapon mounted in the spot that the bolter is designed to shoot bolts out of... but that's standard design. Just grates on my nerves Looks proper and fitting of your boss though.
What I don't get is, why you're limited to 1 shot from it (apart from game balance that is). In the stuff I've read about Azrael, he only ever seems to use his plasma gun bit lol.
So did a wee bit of modelling today and also started painting up my Company Banner bearer. Not sure where to go with the banner... I've got the top left corner sussed- Company logo with Dark Angels chapter insignia in the middle of it.
So put my command team together today- got rid of my old apothecary and made a new one with bits from Anvil Industry and Deathwing command bits as well as the Apothecary power pack and narthecium from the PA command kit.
Also started painting up my Company Veterans not sure on the loadout for them though. Suggestions welcome.
Also if someone could provide some pointers on the CCS banner as per my previous post I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
I 'm really bad at banners, as I can't freehand worth a darn. I think some white wings against the green background would look cool for one quarter of it. I couldn't do it and make it look good, but maybe you can?
squall018 wrote: I 'm really bad at banners, as I can't freehand worth a darn. I think some white wings against the green background would look cool for one quarter of it. I couldn't do it and make it look good, but maybe you can?
I might cheat and just put a wing decal on there lol.
In other news, I ordered some 30mm bases for the gradual swap over for my various armies. Starting with The Unforgiven, I don't think 2mm size difference is going to matter when you put them next to the Shield of Baal Death Company. Only 64 of them... *sigh*
Also got me another Librarian so I can try out a Librarius Conclave.. that and what's not to like about a bunch of badasses being able to fry people with their minds?
Received my Renedra bases today- gotta say they're quite nice! Should be easier to place on terrain from the look of things. That's the only downside to GW bases- they're nice but when you put em on ledges or whatever, there's that void under them so they fall off.
So to escalate the arms race, I have today purchased another Predator which will raise my armoured section of Dark Angels to:
x2 Predators (1 Deimos Executioner, 1 Annihilator/Destructor)
x1 Land Raider Redeemer
x2 Razorbacks
x1 Whirlwind Hyperios
x3 Dreadnoughts (2 DW one of which is a Contemptor, 1 5th Co. dread)
x1 Land Speeder Typhoon
May yet get some more Land Raider awesomeness, possibly another Pred to or Vindicator.
Are Land Speeder Vengeance's worth taking at all? For mobile artillery, it seems quite short ranged and flimsy.
So the rebasing crusade began in earnest this weekend. Started off with my DVTac marines (hadn't glued them to their slottabases thankfully) and Assault marines. Gotta say the base size increase vastly improves their presence on the table, and no longer will the paint rub off as much when I'm painting them. Bloody annoying. Also makes top heavy guys (particularly metal minis) much more stable. I may paint strip the tactical marines and give em a better paintjob, as they're pretty sloppy when compared to my more recent efforts- particularly when you put them next to the Space Hulk guys.
New day, new update. Managed to get my mitts on some rather awesome stuff from eBay lately. Including the classic Space Crusade Dreadnought, and some old school Tarantula weapon platforms (credit goes to my brother for finding them)
Here's some pics for those of you not familiar with them (the two models on L&R side of the pics not my pics)
GrimDork wrote: Looks more like a mech, it appears both sleeker and more agile than a current dreadnought. If they gave it matching stats I could imagine!
I'd use the word "current" loosely in 40klol. The slab sided ones were easy to mass produce for the IoM during the Heresy, hence why there's a lot more of them than some of the other Dreadnought patterns. The Space Crusade one was "Abomination" pattern
@squall: For about £4/$8 you can get 32 of them in a pack, which is excellent IMO. I think Mantic use Renedra bases for some of their stuff if I remember right. I bought about x4 packs so that's 128 30mm bases to go at, Thankfully, I haven't done any work to the bases of my rank and file SM, Necrons or DE so the switch over will be (relatively) painless for me.
Received my order from http://www.the-outpost.co.uk the other day, and I have to say, excellent customer service on their part.
Plus some filthy xenos abominations for my brother...
So update part 1: Got my shiny new 6'x4' space themed mat coming Tues/Wed from the Eggbox Terrain Kickstarter. One of the few projects I've backed, that have delivered rewards more or less on time! So be prepared for some Battlefleet Gothic pics! I have a fairly sizeable Ork fleet (mostly cause I enjoy the amount of pain they can inflict at 15cm or less). Also have some Tau ships (not the god awful sculpts from GWs main studio, but the awesome torpedo spamming stuff from FW! )
My brother has some Tyranids and Chaos for his fleets.
Yeah they look pretty sweet! That was just about 1 pack and a bit worth of bases. There's still a shed load of Necron Warriors and Dark Eldar to do. May have to mount the wyches on top of the new bases as there's some that are posed to look like they're doing acrobatics.
I'd hold off on the DE as I don't think there's any guaruntee that they need 32s. Of course, you could do it just for the Rule of Cool, but I'd bet DE remain on 25s.
Paradigm wrote: I'd hold off on the DE as I don't think there's any guaruntee that they need 32s. Of course, you could do it just for the Rule of Cool, but I'd bet DE remain on 25s.
Hmm Dark Eldar Kabalites do actually have a wide stance though Para, for some reason they have to stand legs spread lol.
I suppose so. My line of thinking was less that and more that, in the admittedly small sample we've seen so far (Crons, BA, and the Nids from the recent supplement), T4 things have generally been on 32s (Cron Warriors, Marines) while T3 things (Gants) haven't been.
But, the 32s do give you a larger canvas to play with artistically, and anyone who refuses to play them on 32s is probably not the kind of person you want to play anyway.
I don't think large bases tend to confer much of a benefit anyway. Not sure if 5-7mm is enough to change the math on max coherency and blasts, and it shouldn't be enough to matter in CC. Switching to 60s maybe
Doesn't *every* gw model have a wide stance? Necrons, marines, darkies... it's like they *wanted* to use up that whole base or something. It's part of the reason space marines are the same height as guardsmen... though I guess they both have fairly squatty poses.
Still working on my terrain piece. Starting to reconsider my choice to use plaster cloth coated in plaster/spackle stuff. It may just end up too brittle. Gonna see if I can do some treatments to make it better for long term, either a coat of watered down PVA glue or maybe even just brush dip the entire thing and let the polyurethane do the talking...

Unless they're in a running pose, yes lol.

Gaunts and stealers I'd put on 32s as they're generally quite top heavy due to their posing. Gants I'd leave on 25s as the weight is evenly dispersed.
Still getting that Christmas vibe though I can't possibly figure out why...hur hur hur.. yeah ok crap joke.
Received my 3rd and final survey gubbinz from the girls and boys at Mantic. Loving all of it! Guess I know what I'll be on with at the weekend! Tacked the Strider together for a bit of fun and my fething god that chainblade and flamer is huge!
Also received my very much anticipated Space themed mat from Rick at Eggbox Terrain from his Starscapes KS. Really nice mat. Not quite as heavy as Frontline's mat but certainly tough enough to be played on.
The Carina Nebula which looks suspiciously like the Eye of Terror..
Yeah I'm loving the giant flamer of doom on the Strider. As for the cockpit- didn't wanna mess about with the teeny tiny Plague pilot, so my brother and I decided to go for a more infested look.
Tentacles are green stuff and the weird gribbly mouth is from a very old Chaos spawn model. Brother also did the two enforcer and 'keeper fellas.
Great stuff! Have to grab me a Strider at some point, and if that's the kind of dynamism you can get from the plastic Enforcers I may have to get some of those too (I'm just going to gloss over the 20+ I've built in the last week )
It's a nice kit and you get all the options for Plague, Rebs and Enforcers. The pics just don't do the Enforcer Genling 88 weapon justice. It's massive. Reminds me of the Volkite weapons from 40K. A great deal at £12.50 IMO
Anyways- the eBay bug came back and bit me this week and I managed to score a Vindicator siege tank for £15.00- assembled quite well but then it looks like the person has basecoated it with Caliban Green. Then realised all the gaps and slathered it with green stuff. It then appears to have been abandoned and left to gather dust on a shelf somewhere. Dozy sod has also glued the Demo cannon so I can't get the siege shield on.
On the plus side, it doesn't have the sweaty-cigarette-factory-nerd stink on it so I don't have to decontaminate it. So I'll probably be sanding the bugger down to level all the blobs of green stuff out. Pic to follow later.
Sounds bad, to be honest. I think if I recieved something like that I'd send it back (if it wasn't clear from the pics how badly it was put together). I once played against a LR with what looked like GS used in place of glue (as in, all down the sides where the treads meet the hull!), and I think I may have visibily cringed every time I looked at it...
Maybe... My brother says he'll have it but then that would give him x2 chaos vindicators and x2 defilers to pummel me with. His defilers are scary accurate in our games for a BS3 vehicle!
Saw this on the GW blog today... I may have to steal this for my Razorbacks. Looks awesome! Though they appear to have their wires crossed for where the turret came from. That's a Stormraven turret!
I don't think it's a typo, I think they meant you basically have the turret left over as the Eagle is, as far as I know, a conversion set for the Raven kit (I could be wrong, though), so you get the turret but nowhere to put it.
Managed to get it cleaned up for the most part. Couldn't fix the Demo Cannon elevation/depression issue though so I've cleaned up all the glue from that panel and re glued it back on with some proper glue. Seriously considering a Dettol dunking for it though. Might have to do some plasticarding and green stuffing to make it water tight.
My Deimos Predator.. and his friends. 1 more Razorback to assemble and I'll have a nice number of tanks to crush the heretics and xenos alike. Plus some WIP Canoptek Wraith awesomeness in the background. Quite proud of the Autocannon turret with the HK missile on the turret.
Took me a good while to get hold of the right bits, but here's my Dark Angel TDA Librarian kit bash. Just need to GS a longish cable to the staff now and he'll be ready for a full paintjob.
Librarian is great. I see ( at least I think) a few different kits in there.
Also, don't tell anyone, but I'm guilty of gluing guns in place on a lot of my tanks. I just don't like them moving around. That being said, I don't use that much glue.
Yeah unfortunately for me I had a derpy moment and glued my Whirlwind Hyperios missile launcher in place. Which means that isn't coming off any time soon as it's resin The launcher can still move up and down though. With the plasma pred I made a twist and lock mechanism to prevent the rest of the tank from falling off if picked up by the turret. But still allowed the turret to turn.
Anyways- his head needs to come up a bit as it looks lower than his shoulders!
The bits used are as follows:
Plastic PA libby head
TA Grey Knight torso
BATA librarian shoulder pad (took AGES to get one)
GK Nemesis force rod
DA Veteran shoulder pad and standard toppers
DA Terminator Power sword (though I may swap for a gun- what do we think?let his mind do the shooting?)
Really liking that conversion. The Libby head on its own looks a lot better than it does on the plastic Librarian model as a whole, I have never been a fan of that miniature.
I say gun, maybe a combi so he has one useful shot if he ever needs to use it?
How many 40K armies do you run AoV? I hope the answer is:
ALL.
Have always fancied Necrons, must be so easy to paint up quickly and effectively. Just never been a fan of the plastic rods in the Gauss weapons, although I know they are not in any of the newer kits.
@Para: The artwork is from the new Codex. Really nice stuff in there!
@Thraxas: I have 3 armies. Dark Angels, Dark Eldar, Necrons plus a joint Blood Angels army with my brother which is slowly taking shape. It's mostly 1st and 2nd Company stuff with Death Company.
Had a quickish game of Battlefleet Gothic and lost today. Got to try out the awesome new Starscapes mat today though which was awesome.
My fleet:
x2 Kill kroozers x1 Terror ship x5 Onslaught class x2 Brute Ram Ships x3 Ravager class
Brother's fleet x1 Murder class x1 Slaughter class x1 Devastation class x7 Idolator raiders x3 Iconoclast destroyers
Had some pretty disappointing All Ahead Full rolls so I couldn't get close to his ships quick enough to put my Heavy Gunz to work. Managed to pull off a successful ram on his Murder class cruiser after he crippled one of my Kill Kroozers quite badly. Took 4 hull points off but had hoped to go out in a blaze of glory and destroy it. I've decided that Assault boats are the way to go at close quarters. They did a marvelous job of damaging my brother's ships. Anyways I conceded defeat (last pic) after my Kill Kroozers became blazing hulks drifting through space, and my Onslaughts were carved up by lance fire from the Idolators
Then, I subsequently ate the last Creme Egg for a measure of petty vengeance/great satisfaction. Here's some pics for you all.
@Azazel: Yeah it was. I have some tables coming, so I can use the full 6'x4' worth of mat. Orks are a good fleet to have but if they get attacked from behind their armour is useless as you can smash it on a 4+ compared to the 6+ on their prow and 5+ on their flanks.
@Grim: Yes Cadbury's
Also there's this that came today... christ that new Necron Overlord is big.
Biotransference complete... hurgghhh lots of Necron Warriors done today.
Plus my semi completed Monolith from yonks ago which I think may need stripping partially and patching up at the bottom (maybe a good dusting too- been in storage a while!) I'm also gonna have to come back to the warriors so I can get their heads all green striped up. Apologies for some of the sideways pics- uploaded straight from phone..
Also assembled the new Necron Overlord today and my god it beats the hell out of the Finecast one. Saying that though the old one's not bad- staff is fairly straight compared to my Cryptek's which just snapped like a twig.
Sorry all, I was struck down yet again by man flu for the 2nd time in as many months. Back now fighting fit (sort of- still got this fething cough to kill)
So my brother made an impromptu light box for snapping pics of plastic cra... I mean our minis. Here's some of the results..
Comments welcome
Had a rather nice message from Andy @ Heresy Minis just now... A rather large winged scaly beast is headed my way in the post and should be arriving next week...
Ordered it on 11th Dec 2010..
God I hope so! That looks terrifying to handle by brush! Of course given the expense and magnificence you should probably go in and hand-blend every scale... but yeah I"d spray it personally
Well its a very very very belated birthday/xmas present for my brother so not up to me lol. Airbrushing is a possibility but we don't really have much XP with it.
So the Heresy Dragon landed in the post the other day. 4 years of waiting and I have to say it's a beauty. There's a few metal parts in it as well as resin so they'll most likely have to be pinned. They're mostly the various little claws on the wings, the tongue and the end of his tail. Apparently they caused havoc in the casting process.
Very little in the way of mould lines so that's awesome too. No pics of the bits as yet.
I do however have some pics of some of the stuff I got primed up-
Looks good. I still haven't even started to do anything at all with my DZ buildings yet, so I'm always keen to see what people come up with. Grim and others have been a great source so far, so I'm interested to see what you come up with as well...
Almost forgot about this guy- my newest conversion piece. Heavy Destroyer made using the Heavy Gauss Cannon from the Triarch Stalker. Though for some reason I can't find that other bit to finish the Gauss Cannon's muzzle.. Looks like a bits order is due..
Congrats on the Heresy Dragon, I image one day most of us will be waiting 4 years for some Kickstarter projects to be fulfilled! That is some delayed gratification right there.
Your Necrons are great, nice scheme and are making me want to make the metal Undead my next army.
That is a fantastic terrain setup, I'd love to get a game in on something like that! Nice to see some proper density of LoS-blocking stuff as well, that always helps the game run better (I'll never get why so many people play with so little terrain).
Any plans for a batrep over that board? Would be epic!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Small update: Reaper's Bones II has landed safely- arguably the biggest haul of minis I've ever seen from a single purchase..
Hooray, more Bones owners for me to be envious of! Seriously, though, I can't wait to see what you do with this stuff! Between you and Grim, I hope to see enough to put together a 'shopping list' for B2 stuff.
An odd request, but did you get a troll in there, one holding a large axe in its right hand? I'm looking at that for LotR Troll conversion base. This chap, which I read somewhere would be converted in B2:
Spoiler:
If you have him, could I trouble you for a scale shot with some 28mm minis?
Nope the troll I got was River Troll style. Quite how Reaper pulled that off without getting their ass kicked I don't know. But it's a damn sight bigger!
That's a nice troll, and I never noticed its LotR-ness before you pointed it out. It was in one of the $50 add-ons. I skipped all of them since the contents were so semi-random, the increase in price to $50 a pop, plus the postage costs.
More Cassor the Damned goodness He's had a coat of Leadbelcher and a wash of Nuln Oil to all the metal/silver bits since the pic was taken but alas, camera's battery ran out of juice.
Here you go..
Annd for some reason my pics are all showing sideways.. ffs.
Small update for Cassor no pics yet though. Brightened up the saltires with Evil Sunz Scarlet, Ushabti Bone'd some of the skulls and put a wash of Seraphim Sepia on followed by another layer of Ushabti Bone. Leadbelcher'd the joints on the power claws and Balthasar Gold'd the wing bits and blood drops ready for jewelling up with red. Washed the Celestra grey wings with Nuln Oil.
In other news- been hammering Dawn of War Dark Crusade as the Necrons on Campaign mode. Must've wiped out the entirety of the Blood Ravens chapter twice after killing 2000 in a single battle.
Kicked the Word Bearers and Tau off Kronus. Now heading towards the accursed Eldar.
So definitely assembling the dreadnought in the DC sarcophagus for yours then? Should be interesting to see what you do with it. Here's my Necron Lord from DoW Dark Crusade so far:
Been a while since I updated this.. hobby mojo seems to have waned a little lately. But the show must go on.
First up is Brother Claudio of the Blood Angels. Followed by Xenos Heresy.. Also got some more drybrushing done on my Dark Angels assault squad. I'll upload them once they've been neatened up a wee bit.
Nearly there. I've decided to skip painting the freehand power field on the claws, and go for a glaze of Guilliman Blue. The photo doesn't show it that well but it looks awesome!
Quick question to you lot: The damaged armour bits-to highlight or not to highlight??
squall018 wrote: I have yet to put a single drop of paint on my entry and you're already done!
I'll be honest, I like drybrushing A LOT. Makes things so much quicker.
Quick question to you all- do you think I've overdone it with the BFTBG on Goriel? Or do we think there's a suitable amount of blood spatter from someone who's just ripped a genestealer's head and spine off?
I'm not a huge fan of blood splatter everywhere, as I think it just takes away from the details of the model. But thats my opinion on everything, not just your model, so I'm a little biased. I'm a fan with less is more on BFTBG.
So at long last, I got my Leadbelcher spray annnd it doesn't disappoint. Holy gak why didn't GW do this sooner?! Also I've binged a bit and bought a number of new things due to a new GW stockist opening near me. Self control goes out the window a bit when the good stuff is on your doorstep! Got a Voidraven bomber, new plastic Haemy (beautiful models!) after only going to pick up some Nuln Oil lol. As well as a shed load of Renedra (only 120 of them for 15bucks) 30mm bases to rebase my Necrons on (possibly Dark Eldar too for some of their bigger units like Ur-ghuls and Scourge).
Tried out the Leadbelcher on my new plastic Overlord. What do we think?
He's had a bit of work done on him after that pic was taken. 2 coats of Agrax Earthshade and 2 of Nuln Oil to make him look ancient. Followed by Balthasar Gold on his torso, head, warscythe, thighs and his calves. I then painted that V shaped raised area on his head, chest Ankh, and parts of his loin cloth with Sotek Green. Not sure where to go with his cape though. Maybe a glaze of Waywatcher Green?
I'm going this weekend to my FLGS to play in an Apoc. game, and am planning on picking up a can of that leadbelcher for my iron warrios. I've been putting off working on them, but that may give me the motivation to work on them since it will be SOOOOO much faster.
I also like using the glazes over metal paints. Thinks it give it a cool effect, though sometimes you have to use two coats. Waywatcher green looks pretty neat used in that way, so give it a try.
Squall: IMO that Leadbelcher spray is the best thing since sliced bread. Makes painting Necrons waaaay less monotonous and soul destroying, now I don't have to paint each and every one with it by brush!! lol.
Also, tried some wet blending today on the Overlord, and I think I've more or less got the hang of it. (Resurrection Orb in his hand) First pic is intended to show it off as the light was being a PITA (see 2nd pic)
Paradigm wrote: Looks pretty damn great to me! Both the glazing over metal and the wet blending are brilliant!
Lol I've not really glazed anything on the Overlord. Just the cape and the orb. I might call him Ming the Merciless since the new plastic ones carry that sorta vibe...
Cheers Azazel- I didn't like the bright greens GW's scheme suggested for the various glowing bits on the Necrons. Doesn't seem alien enough. The greenish colour for Dark Eldar's Kabal of the Black Heart works wonderfully though.
Base of Incubi Darkness, followed by a layer of Kabalite Green and then Sybarite Green. Topped off by Waywatcher Green glaze.
Soo not posted for a while> Here's some new stuff I've been on with lately. Man, I'm loving this Leadbelcher spray a lot. So so helpful.
First up, we have the fantastic new Bloodthirster which I've base coated up for my brother. Not looking forward to being on the receiving end of that axe, mind. To give you an idea of how big this fething thing is, the axe haft is 13cm long, and the blade is just a bit bigger than a Space Marine. I also caved last week and bought myself that nice new Promethium pipe relay (just the one kit though) and an Imperial bastion from my FLGS. Really nice kit but those gothic-y bits on the pipes are quite stabby (I know this cause my brother poked me in the hand with it- )
Also if I could have a bit of advice from you lot re: my Necron Overlord. He's nearly done but I'm kind of stumped with where to go on the upper half of his cape thingy. Should I leave it as is or give it some colour?
I do love the look of the new Bloodthirster. It's been a while coming, but it's mighty impressive!
The overlord looks great, but I agree the cape needs something. It would look awesome, I think, if you could pull off some kind of blend from gold to silver, or perhaps to a reddy bronze?
@ToT: There is A LOT. But the tutorial for the 'Thirster on GW's YouTube channel actually makes it a bit quicker. Though he's not my problem anymore lol. I just undercoated and base coated him. Not planning on a Decurion no. Don't have anywhere near enough models (or time) for that. Plus I don't have any Tomb Blades, I refuse to buy them 'cause they're awful looking models. For my Fast Attack choices I will be using Scarabs, Wraiths and Canoptek Acanthrites. The latter make excellent anti-armour/infantry units- Scarabs are there just to throw a spanner in the works.
Para: I'm not sure about putting bronze in there, as it doesn't really fit the Nihilakh colour scheme. That, and he's quite bling'd up as it is with all that gold lol.
Only another 9 to go *sigh* Looks great though eh?
Just needs polishing off with another coat of Agrax Earthshade (I'll need GALLONS of the stuff for this paint scheme lol) and on the (green) cables and Runefang Steel for the edge highlights. Then obviously he needs basing.
Oh and by the way- nearly 20 pages in, and 21,000+ views. Honestly wasn't expecting this to go on for very long! ++FAITH IS ETERNAL++
What is the blue on the cables AOV? I really like that. The full unit of 10 will look great. I do sometimes feel like I need entire 50 gallon vats of washes. They do certainly make painting easier.

Incubi Darkness- the cables will be getting highlighted with Kabalite Green followed by Sybarite Green and a glaze of Waywatcher Green.
Also got 2 kits of the new Promethium relay pipes today- pretty nice kit- Might just paint up the pipes and leave them loose so I can assemble them in whatever configuration I feel like though.
New day, new post- possibly new page? ** Edit: Nope no new page :(
Been listening to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds hence the update title in case you were wondering...
Post Age of Ultron viewing (in IMAX of course) and a junk food meal, I spent some time in another smaller and darker room painting models this afternoon. Continued work on my own hostile self aware-AI-type-robot horde. More Immortals plus a big stompy Triarch Stalker to relay targeting data...
I really like what you've been doing with the Necrons as well. Posts like the ones you've been making keep almost putting me over the edge, but then the amount of stuff I'd need to buy manages to hold me on the side of sanity.
Very nice work, I especially like the highlighting/weathering on the blue on the legs. I have very little idea on Necron rules, how does the Stalker measure up in a game?

Cheers- Base of Sotek Green, dry brushed with Skink Blue followed by Tyrant Skull on the cartouches and corners. Then gave it a wash of Steel Legion Drab (pretty heavy amount of Lahmian Medium to thin it right down as it's a Base paint) Then went over again with the Tyrant Skull. Just need to glaze it with Lamenters Yellow to finish the blue bits.
Recently, pretty well since you can now have them in units of 3. They also add +1 BS to any friendly non vehicles within 6" of them. Plus they get an energy shield that grants them AV13 on the front and side facings. Loses it on a Penetrating hit though. Standard weapon is pretty much the Martian Heat Ray from War of the Worlds. 125 pts each
**Edit: I forgot to mention they move through cover and ignores Crew Shaken effects.
Heat ray Dispersed Template S5 AP4 Heavy1 or Focussed 24" S8 AP1 Heavy 2 Melta
Weapon options are Particle Shredder 24" S7 AP4 Heavy 1 Large Blast 5pts TL Hvy Gauss Cannon 36" S9 AP2 Heavy 1, Gauss(Auto wound on a To Wound roll of 6 regardless of toughness/ Auto glance on a 6 if it doesn't penetrate) 10pts
I've heard some pretty positive stuff, though some of the folks on here seem to be more than happy to condemn it as a one trick pony. The board is actually pretty big- comes in 4 sections.
The Execution Force box was a lot heavier than I expected (Squall mentioned this too). I am a fan of the board, I just wish it was fold out or had some connectors or something.
@Para: Well spotted. I used a DE Scourge Solarite hair piece. Had to snip off the bone pin and feathers. Covered up the snipped bit with a skull (cut in half) from the pommel of a GK power weapon
Just a few bits today.. Spent most of my time edge highlighting the Triarch Stalker.. Plus I assembled the Terminator Lord from Assassinorum. Head swapped him for a Deathwing Knight hoodie head.
I still want to do a silver metallic chaos force. Mix in a lot of wires and gross bits from sedition wars for tech mutations. Probably just end up looking like Iron Warriors though, so I kind of feel your pain.
Yeah haha. I wasn't suggesting the silver scheme for you, just that its easy to lose your inspiration/drive when you can't come up with a unique/snowflake scheme you like.
I'm thinking maybe an offshoot of Alpha Legion. A Fallen of the Dark Angels legion who killed the original Lord and took command of the warband. Wreaking havoc across the Imperium.
