Nice! HH Angels look suitably mean, and I can't wait to see this AVP stuff get some paint. Could I trouble you for a scale pic of a Pred next to a Marine or similar at some point?
Even though Prodos made a horse's arse of the kickstarter, the models are excellent. I just wish they'd bite the bullet and merge with Mantic. With Prodos' great model casting and Mantic managing things they'd be fantastic. Ok Mantic aren't perfect but they'd do a damn sight better than Jarek&Co!

The DA Heresy era guys look fantastic. I just wish I had more of an idea of how they operated during the Legion days. From the little picture in the FW N&R it's pretty vague, but they seem to be a mixed bag M.O. wise.
Think I'm going to save the Kheres assault cannon for my relic 'temptor dread. Or possibly do some gentle sawing and magnetise the plastic one. Thoughts/comments anyone?
Speaking of plastic dreads I did some tweaking with my BaC one. For this I've changed the pose a bit, so it looks like he's spraying some poor buggers with bolter fire and advancing, while his Multi-melta cools down.
I like the bolter in the hand, I did that with the flamer on my MM/flamer dread and appreciate it elsewhere. I mean, why have something hanging down where it could snag and get caught when you could just internalize it.
Nice HHaul there. Is that AdMech model one of FW's? I don't think I've ever seen it before. Subtle conversion on the Contemptor is well done. Looks like he's about to force choke some unlucky bastard!
Azazelx wrote: Nice HHaul there. Is that AdMech model one of FW's? I don't think I've ever seen it before. Subtle conversion on the Contemptor is well done. Looks like he's about to force choke some unlucky bastard!
Yeh the Techmarine is a MkIV artificer suit. Love the axe on him and the servo arm actually looks useable compared to the old model lol(granted the old models were made with old techniques).
The only choking that's going to happen there, is when he pops someone's chest open with mass reactive rounds lol.
Will you be making any alterations to yours? Also, have you thought about which legion you're going for? Or are you going to use them for 40k instead?

All Contemptors have their built in weapons in the hand. The Castraferrum pattern dreadnoughts ie the slab sided ones in 40K, were quicker to produce in the Horus Heresy, which is why there's so many of them and they're not as good. The Contemptor has energy shields as well as armour.
Well they had all those washing machines that were about to be sent out to the different chapters along with the new method of removing Chaos taint handbooks before the Heresy broke out. Unfortunately the handbooks were lost due to a server error and the washing machines were repurposed when the tech priests read the attached note that simply said "to remove the toughest stains in the galaxy." Even to this day the tech priests believe that the washing machine dreads were the worst flop whe it came to laundry duty. Sure you could hang an entire squads clothes from them, unless if your dark angels, but they never could fluff dry clothes with those heavy flamers
Oh I love that one . Enough chaos organic a to make it look cool. I was more joking of the square boxy "washing machine on legs" 40k dreadnought that I own more than a dozen plastic ones of and 5-6 metal ones in a sock of.
angelofvengeance wrote: I don't get where this washing machine on legs thing came from tbh. They don't look like that at all lol
Now your making me want to break out an old plastic dread turn him into a front load washing machine on legs and have a clothes line with "I (Heart) the Emperor" boxer shorts hanging on it dragging from one of its feet. I Think I will Call it Amana
I just remember when they first came out with them and their boxy design style. My friends and I agreed on the washing machine motif.
In the form of 5 more Liberators dual wielding hammers again. These will be reinforcing the 5 man dual hammers unit from a few pages back, so no Liberator Prime here. Also you may notice the shiny Dragonfate Dais which looks like huge fun to paint though, there are quite a few mould lines still to eradicate. Slightly disappointed that the upper level is blank underneath with exception to the words Games Workshop 2015 printed on it
That's a bloody cool looking piece of scenery. Perhaps I'll have to revisit some of GW's scenic kit range. But maybe I should finish the ones I already have first....
To be honest, you could assemble the piece as far as the quarter landing , and use it as 2 pieces of scenery. So you have an orrible sacrificial pool and a ritual circle (on top of a hill maybe?)
This piece was surprisingly pleasant to assemble after the faff I had with the Ophidian Archway.
Dammit BaC! GW done a bad thing releasing Horus Heresy in plastic.. got a fair bit of Legion stuff coming now (Like I don't have enough! Lol)
First up, some more stuff I've assembled and yet to paint.. Why do we make a rod for our own back like this? lol. Also, been thinking I may take a break from painting infantry, and paint some pieces from my mountain of scenery like the Shrine of the Aquila etc. Been suffering a bit of burn out in that regard. On the plus side, going through the posts on here, I think I managed to get a good few models done in 2015. At least 100 I'd say.
Legion stuff
Sergeant 1 (yet to be named and with some Dark Angels Legion bling)
Spoiler:
Sergeant 2 (also yet to be named)
Spoiler:
Cataphractii Squad
Spoiler:
Legion Techmarine with Combi-plasma (soon to be swapped out for Volkite I think!)
Spoiler:
*sniff sniff* You smell that? Smells like.... TRAITORS! My brother's beginnings of a XVI Legion Reaver squad
Spoiler:
I've also decided that I REALLY REALLY dislike edge highlighting. It's such a ball ache, so with that in mind, things will be getting dry brushed where possible. On the plus side, I really love these new gold paints GW have released. Here is my recent attempt on an Assault marine...
Weird isn't it? I find edge highlighting to be quite relaxing...each to their own I guess. That is quite some resin pile you have coming to you, I am scared by the postage cost alone.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: Weird isn't it? I find edge highlighting to be quite relaxing...each to their own I guess. That is quite some resin pile you have coming to you, I am scared by the postage cost alone.
Hello all and welcome back to a slightly different direction to the blog. I've been PAINTING scenery instead of just building it and leaving it bare and grey... (Technically still grey though, since it's base coated with Mechanicus Standard Grey spray paint)
Yes, I've made a start on my scenery pile doing craters and ruins. Loving the new spray paints and the fact they're not limited runs this time!
Basically doing this as I've burnt out my motivation for foot soldiers and whatnot so I'm doing a bit of this to break it up.
First up is the Dragonfate Dais I got for my brother's birthday- still a WIP as I had to top up my Longbeard Grey dry compound for him to dry brush it after shading.
Base coat
Spoiler:
Nuln Oil Wash
Spoiler:
Ophidian Archway- base coated with the Mechanicum grey spray, dry brushed with Longbeard Grey and shaded with Nuln oil though in hindsight I probably should've done it the other way around. Can't really see the highlights that well. Suggestions for what to paint the warrior chappy stabbing the hydra beastie in the craw? I was thinking silver perhaps?? I think more gold would ruin the frontage..
Spoiler:
And lastly, the Dark World temple thingy.. After some discussion with my brother, this is going on a game board tile. The back of the ruin piece could end up slotting into a ziggurat or a hill with a skull (possibly the sabre tooth cat skull you've seen in a couple of my game pics) arching over the top of it. Might paint a Chaos star or mark of Khorne on it... Hmmm. Comments welcome
Before I even saw Jan's post I was about to suggest copper. So yeah, copper. Breaks up the uniformity and makes both of them distinctive but still related, while keeping the friese in a separate tone to the background (grey/silver would blend to an extent).
I had one of those Dark World temples slightly converted for scenery but never finished. I wish I could find it!
The Dark World Temple is very cool. I actually think silver would be better for the spear hero, as it'll give more contrast and make the two identities pop more.
Looks good anyway, and the Heresy models you've built look grand.
Went for the copper/brass look using Screaming Bell and Reikland Fleshshade (still WIP).. plus I did a wee bit on the inside of the piece. I quite like the sort of messianic feel it has to it. What do we think?
Had a bit of excitement about book 6 of the Horus Heresy and thought I'd come back to the large pile of plastic Calth stuff I have just sitting here doing nowt.
Started painting mr 'temptor dreadnought.. Bit rough arsed at the moment but he's taking shape. Love this Vallejo primer stuff. Much much nicer than the Imperial Primer stuff. Though in hindsight, I wish I'd sprayed the fether with Chaos black. It's proving a pain in the backside to get under those shoulders now :(
Dirt and grime would still collect on it over time, deposited by rainfall, blow in by the wind ect, so perhaps after the first Agrax wash (to give depth/detail) you then do a less consistent, more patchy second wash ect to simulate that?
You could try turning the piece upside down and giving it a grimy wash to simulate the dirt Para mentioned. That way it looks like rain came down and washed some grime away. Also you could add some vines or moss in between the stones.
I hit it with a 2nd coat of Seraphim Sepia (upside down) so it should look grimy and weathered. Any suggestions for the flames at the base of the Hydra? In the game it's supposed to be a cursed building that attacks unfortunate souls, and traps them and they become part of the murals on its walls for eternity. So maybe some ethereal flames painted in Ceramite White, followed by a glaze of Guilliman Blue with a highlight of White Scar.
Whilst I was waiting for the wash to dry I did a bit of painting on this fellow below, whom I've decided will be the BaC temptor's 41st millennium appearance. As a veteran of the Horus Heresy, and the destruction of Caliban, he is one of the few functioning Contemptor dreadnoughts of the Chapter. **edited for verbal diarrhoea
Huh, did a double take there, I was expecting HH black! Nice Deathwing bone colour though!
As for the flames at the base of the temple, my first thought (not knowing the fluff) was to paint them as some kind of crystal, jade green or amethyst purple were the ones that immediately sprang to mind. Could still fit the fluff; they see the shinyness, go to take a closer look, touch the stone and the spell takes hold and pulls them in.
Thanks very much, BillyC. Pretty chuffed with that Triarch Stalker myself! Shame I broke one of the pincers on the torso, though.
Cheers Para- took a good few coats to get it up to that. While we're on the subject of the Deathwing Contemptor, I'd welcome any suggestions for markings.

The HH dread won't be finished until I can get my mitts on the new book. That way, I'll have some idea of the Dark Angels Legion markings and I can apply that to my BaC stuff.
Apothecary Mordin Solus reporting for duty Sort of. He's a bit WIP at the moment obviously. Going for a slightly battered look, since I'm pretty sure they'd be in the thick of it to retrieve the Progenoids.
Also, could do with a response to the above please
So my brother's pledge reward for Minion Miniatures little Kickstarter has arrived- behold some truly fantastic sculpts! We have a Deathscale lizardman as well, but the image came out blurry so I'll have to get a better photo in a bit. But for now, check out the Bugbear, Flesh Golem and the Deathscale concept art from the KS. The Deathscale is pretty fething huge. More like a Kroxigor on steroids. Or if you've read any of the Lone Wolf stuff by Joe Dever, one of the giant lizardmen type beasties- Garodon I think it was? Bugbear
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: Quite an array of Beastmen you have there, like the WIP on the Khorngor as well.
Why the move to the slim round bases?
Cheaper than buying them from GW direct. Renedra do packs of 32 30mm bases for £4 each, whereas you're looking at a pack of 10 for £3 each from GW. Makes sense...
Having a bit of a struggle with getting the hobby mojo flowing lately. Been having a crack at the Death Company from Deathstorm and a scout today, though
These have been sat in a box untouched for a good while. Drybrushed them with Etherium Blue and then washed with Nuln Oil.
Going for a desert-y kinda look with the sniper team. Including the sniper rifle, because if you're sneaking around you're not going to be too flashy. This was done with Steel Legion Drab with a wash of Reikland flesh shade. Followed by a couple of layers of Tallarn Sand with a final highlight of karak stone.
That blue drybrush and black wash actually works quite well, I still dread doing my Death Company.
Have you got any simple Nids/Daemons or the like to paint? A simple basecoat, highlight and wash on a mini and just getting something easy done often helps get me in the painting mood.
So while my hobby room gets some shelves fitted, I managed to get a game of Assassinorum: Execution Force in today. Pretty great game despite some of the negative views throughout the community. Managed to kill Lord Drask by turn 13, thanks to some lucky draws from the event card deck.
Spoiler:
The Execution Force search the Astropathic Sanctum for the Teleport controls and teleport pads.
Viktor Zhau (Vindicare) and Klara Rhasc (Callidus) keep the Traitor Astartes occupied while the other 2 close in on Lord Drask
Spoiler:
Noctus Kord's (Culexus) etherium suit saves him from being vaporised by Lord Drask's combi-melta. Sylas Torq (Eversor) sweeps around his left flank, pumped full of the Frenzon combat drug and violently murders the traitor in a flurry of brutal sword strokes.
I picked up a copy of that over the hols. Love the figs (except the ooooold CSM - but no worries, gonna just use the DVCSM instead) really looking forward to getting them painted up ......and get a game in ata some point - lol

Yeah, I just used the Chosen from the DV set (what's hilarious, is the fact the DV Chosen are even on the artwork for the cards!Tsk tsk GW!)

Yes, folks, it supplies drop time.. and today's box o'goodies is the much anticipated Deathwatch Overkill. Just in the process of assembling the marines . Cracking set of models. GW seem to be nailing it with the casting. Not seeing any stretched details whatsoever compared to the Dark Vengeance kit.
I won't bother with the sprue pics, as you've probably already seen them a half dozen times by now. Board sections are pretty heavy duty card stock. Appears to be gantries within the mining facility.
The Imperium apparently uses a starship called the Colossus-class melta ship to get to the good stuff at the core of a Delverworld. Which in this particular case is adamantium, hence the need for some badass mining lasers to hit it with. There appears to have been a space hulk drifting nearby, so naturally there's probably genestealers lurking on it. At least 16 generations have been on Ghosar Quintus from the beginning, so at some point, someone up high got tagged by a Genestealer and it all went downhill from there lol.
The Inquisitor and the stormtroopers they sent to investigate appear to have been eaten/enthralled by the xenos. So when the Inquisitor sends back the all clear, the Ordo Xenos are naturally suspicious and send the Deathwatch Kill Team Excis to investigate, and if possible, rescue the Inquisitor. I'm sorely tempted to build that team just to throw in a bit of variety.
Thaniel Ectros (White Consuls) Kill Team leader
Luca Thalassi (Flesh Tearers) CC Specialist for definite
Koenen Siegfric (Howling Griffons) CC specialist maybe?
Vondel Omid (Crimson Fists) Terminator?
and Stentor Pranus (Novamarines) Bolter marine/Devastator
Looking forward to seeing some of that box built, I can't really tell if I'll like a model from the sprue photos or painted studio shots, need to see the raw potential
Looks like you were getting an early start with your DA/DW a post previous.
First 5 built.. And spoilers for convenience . Cracking stuff! Genestealer Patriarch and puny cultist to follow in the morning. Very tired.. The First and 2nd gens are more or less how a normal size human SHOULD look next to an Astartes, i.e. Puny and easily killed. 1st and 2nd gens are on 25mm bases, everyone else is 32mm save for the Patriarch who sits on a 50mm round.
Ortan Cassius- a word of warning- that chain across the gorget is a separate piece. Verrry flimsy so be careful else it'll snap when you cut it from the frame(like it did with me! D'oh!)
Those are bloody nice models! Can't wait to get my hands on them! Are the Dark Angel's arms separate/easy to remove? His is about the only pose I'm not a fan of.
Paradigm wrote: Those are bloody nice models! Can't wait to get my hands on them! Are the Dark Angel's arms separate/easy to remove? His is about the only pose I'm not a fan of.
Gydrael's sword arm is attached to the torso, the plasma pistol arm is separate. Also, you may have noticed I swapped out the pauldron on the sword arm ( DA Company Veteran bits- so useful!). Head also comes attached to the model.
GrimDork wrote: Oooh the genestealer boss is h00ge. Sweet. Puny cultist too, thanks for sharing.
Cheers. I think my brother was on about painting the xenos-worshipping scum Genestealer cultists (skin tones at least) in Hive Fleet Behemoth colours. Toned down a bit, naturally, since they're supposed to be working from within.
I'll probably be painting the Sternguard conversion first before applying paint to the box set marines. Might do the Blood Ravens Librarian first as I quite enjoy painting Librarians.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: I was surprised by the size of the Patriarch, for me the best sculpt when compared to the other plastic Brood Lords as well.
That Libby is definitely being seconded into my BA army.
Shouldn't be too hard, he's not got a great deal of Blood Ravens markings on him. Plus he certainly fits with the Blood Angels Black Rage theme. After all, this is a guy who tears Ork Boyz apart as an unaugmented human!
Been looking forward to seeing these cultist models for awhile. Can't wait to see your take on them. I have been debating between just ordering a few on ebay or just ordering the whole set.
Hello all! So I spent a bit of time with my brother this week playing Assassinorum:Execution Force as you've seen. Today we pushed the boat out, and had a pop at the Lord Drask in Daemon Prince form. And, well... We managed to kill the beast, but at great cost.
Here's why- he's a bit fething badass against all of them bar the Culexus, but we'll get to that in a moment.
Spoiler:
To begin with, it was all going rather well. All the assassins were doing pretty well killing the hapless guards effortlessly (though, the Culexus needed a hand from the Eversor now and again). Until Zhau, the Vindicare assassin, runs into a room and fails to shoot the cultist lurking in there. The cultist gets 2 shots with his autorifle and has to hit on 6s. My brother rolls the dice... 2.fething.sixes. Zhau dies like a punk. We continue on, trying to find the controls for the teleport pad to gain access to Drask's ship in orbit. At this point, the board is getting pretty crowded due to some bad draws from the Event card deck. Klara Rhasc then gets popped by cultists after she's forced to turn the polymorphine off (if there's enemies On Alert, you have to Sprint while in LoS with them otherwise they can take a shot at you) to thin out the mob gathering around Noctus Kord(Culexus) blocking his way to the teleport pad. This was around turn 10, so time was running out! And the Daemon was now buffing his minions.
Spoiler:
The Eversor and Culexus, having butchered their way to the Temple of Shades, find themselves in a bit of a pickle with 3 traitor astartes on patrol and a growing number of cultists following them. The chaos marines shoot and stab at Kord, but not before he stuns them with a psyk out grenade. Kord is then destroyed by Drask.
Bugger...
Spoiler:
Sylas Torq, is now alone and about to get mobbed by chosen marines as he tries to wound Drask. He needs 3 6s to kill the daemon in melee. I use a Frenzon dose to make sure he gets a good pop at him (allows you to get a free action). First attempt fails. Frenzon attempt gets me 2 6s. Thank god. Drask knocks a wound off Sylas, but the chaos marine next to him, misses. Bugger it. Omegon tactic initiated. BIO MELTDOWN activated! Hits everything within 6 squares of him on a 4+. I roll for Drask first... 6!!! fething yes!! Disaster averted. Sort of.
Sylas, impaled on the daemon's blade, stares the Daemon in the eye, his skull mask leering back at the traitor. He pulls himself further down the blade and manages to utter his last... "The blood of martyrs is the seed of the imperium... Victorus aut mortis!". The daemon prince, rooted to the spot by dark sorcery, roars in dismay as the Eversor detonates. The ritual chamber is consumed in a wave of destruction that tears the ship open and vents Drask's minions into the cold, unforgiving void.
Spoiler:
Verrry close game. Only 2 turns were left to kill him!
I must have missed those supplementary rules, were they in a WD? Execution force gets a lot of stick but I think that was a result of 80% of it being old miniatures rather than the game itself being bad. You are certainly getting some entertainment out of it.

Yeah, the DP rules came out in December (WDW 99) along with a daemon scenario for Calth.
GiraffeX wrote: Assassinorum:Execution Force looks quite cool, thanks for the batreps.
To be honest, it feels like a lot of the hate about this game is as Thraxas mentioned. 4 new models, DV cultists, a terminator Lord and 3 old chaos marines. The flipside is a pretty decent game, which at times, gets pretty unforgiving!
In hindsight, that metal Hesh pattern bolter is awful. Don't like it at all. Should have just stolen the one from the plastic Ultramarine (who thankfully, doesn't have any Ultramarine bling on his weapon)
Here's a wee bit I did on one of the Dungeon Saga trolls. I've been on a bit of a painting burnout of late... just not getting much done at all.. The mould lines are such a pain in the arse on these things! I eventually just fethed it off and painted it anyway.
Nice start on the troll. I haven't even looked at the green guys from that pledge yet. As for mold lines....I'm not good enough of a painter to think they will destroy my work so most of the time if they aren't easy to get to/fix, then they get to stay.
Cheers for the feedback all, I was thinking about maybe painting a bit of carroburg crimson, or some thinned down BFTBG on his stone axe to give it a "recently used" look. Also, do you think I should throw in some metallics there to give it a "cobbled together" look? Or just keep it as studded leather?
Azalle- details wise, I think GW, Prodos and Minion minis do a far better job on their sculpts. Mantic stuff can be a bit rough-arsed (IMO) with some very soft details.
The one thing that catches my eye about the leather is all the pieces are the same. I see trolls and my orcs as a rabble force so when I have multiple pieces of leather next to each other I tend to break them up slightly with different shades. It's just a mental thing with me as I don't see too many leather workers who ply their trad making armor or clothes for the larger species, so if a troll, ogre or giant has leather armor I always assume that they have taken the leather from other sources (multiple human armor sets) and laced them together, Otherwise I think he's looking great.
On a further note, here is why you make sure all your models are well fething clear of the spraying area.
I was painting up my Deathwatch with some chaos black spray. Then my brother wanted me to do his Tyranid broodlord, biovore and Neurothrope in mephiston red.
All 7 of the Deathwatch team guys I was priming ended up like this. Balls. Now on the one hand it does make some nice osl. But probably would've looked better after I'd finished the fething models!
Those deathwatch guys get really bloody don't they . I did a similar thing years ago with a model I really liked how I painted it. I wS taking it outside to photograph it and remembered I needed to prime something else. The light was hidden by a cloud so j went and grabbed the primer and proceeded. The wind kicked up and my nice model was too close and downwind.
Disaster averted! The red paint didn't adhere to any of the Deathwatch marines! Quick dust off with the cleaning brush sorted it right out. The Emperor Protects indeed!
Hello once again! This evening I managed to get a game of Deathwatch Overkill in, cleansing the filthy Xenos as any loyal servant of the Emperor would!
I played as Kill-Team Cassius and my brother played as the Ghosar Quintus cult. For this first mission, the Deathwatch start with 4 marines of your choice. In this instance, it was Gryt(frag cannon)Sorrlock(Combi Melta)Donatus(using my DA Deathwatch bolter marine) and Cassius. My objective- To kill 25 Cultusts. The cult has to kill 2 of the Kill-Team. First turn saw me wiping the floor with the cultists, Gryt and Donatus inflicting some seriously nasty shooting with solid shot(frag cannon)Kraken and Hellfire rounds. Donatus in particular was a surgeon with the bolter, his Kraken rounds killing things on a 2+/3+. He also gets to shoot twice for both shooting phases in the deathwatch turn!
The Deathwatch deploy
The first kills..
As Kill-Team Cassius moves further into the Ghosar Quintus facility, my brother got some eye watering results with his Gambits and Ambush cards. The cultists start to surge out from the shadows to defend their home from those who would seek to harm their Four-Armed Emperor and his children. Donatus and Cassius are getting mobbed by 1st and 2nd gen cultists, backed up by Aberrants with power picks. Sorrlock and Gryt are also getting overwhelmed. I managed to kill the grenade launcher and mining laser cultists before they got a shot off, thankfully! I LOVE the frag cannon!!
With only 6 kills to go, Cassius is wounded by a lucky hit from the Aberrant's pick. But responds with a powerful couple of hits from his crozius, smashing the mutant scum into paste and firing a kraken round into the nearest cultist's face. Donatus and Sorrlock wrap up the mission nicely by killing the last handful.
You may be wondering why there's not much genestealer cult action here- I think to really make the cult effective, you're better off Lurking until the marines get close to an entry point. Otherwise, it's very much a shooting gallery. My brother's Genestealers can't really do jack at range without some heavy weapons, like a grenade launcher or mining laser. Yes, marines are pretty lethal at either close quarters or ranged combat, but you can certainly limit their firepower by bogging them down. I only really began to feel the pressure once the cultists started closing in here, by which time, I was not far from winning.
Overall though, I love this game! Just need to assemble the rest of the box set, since mission II requires all cultists, the Trysst Magus and Primus.
Oh and before I hit the hay, did a wee bit on not-Donatus' base to fit the underground mining facility theme.
Nice bat-rep! It does seem like playing the Genestealer Cult is much harder than the Marines. To be honest I am looking forward to the challenge!
I also wondered about playing through the entire campaign but not allowing the Marine player to continue with marines that were killed in previous games. Will you be playing mission 2 soon?
Bottle wrote: Nice bat-rep! It does seem like playing the Genestealer Cult is much harder than the Marines. To be honest I am looking forward to the challenge!

Well, to be fair in this first mission, the Astartes get to re-roll any dice that fails to score a hit in the first turn to represent that the Deathwatch team are expending lots of ammo to keep the cultists distracted from the 2nd group in mission 2, which is occurring at the same time.
Bravo team are trying to destroy the vox array, as they don't realise the enemy have brood telepathy yet.
As you go through the campaign, there are bonuses that can be carried through to the next mission. So, for this first mission, a Deathwatch victory gets no special benefits for the next mission. If the cult wins, they have a hand of 8 Broodmind cards for Mission 2, rather than 7.
Like I said, the genestealer approach is less all guns blazing and more, ambush and overwhelm, so it pays to wait and close in.
Mission 2 should be hilarious though. Delassio has the Black Rage special rule, so if he rolls doubles when using the chainsword (2A with Rend hits on 3+) he loses the flamer for the rest of the mission, but is granted 4 attacks with the chainsword. That, combined with being able to JP to Combat range will be pretty terrifying for the Cult player.
For that mission, we were using Cultists from DV mixed with a few of the 1st-4th gen cultists from DWO. They blend in pretty nicely! Just got the Trysst lads and the 20 or so cultists to assemble. I also need to paint some bits on Donatus, Suberei and Branatar before I stick them together. As well as fixing the brazier on the latter (ffs)
Sooo. this weekend while returning home, my DWO models suffered a casualty or two in transit. Anton Delassio, the Cursed Prince- his chain sword snapped off at the crossguard, so I've had to cut the arm off. The plastic was too warped to make a clean fix, so I've found a Death Company chain sword arm that makes him look a good bit cooler!
Branatar's brazier thingy needs fixing as well since that's now become a bit wobbly! Ugh. I should really lay these models on their backs in the foam.
Before:
After
Someone's going to have a serious case of chain sword to the face...
Trying to bring back my paint mojo with some Stormcast Eternals. That Star Drake has got me champing at the bit for more. Would make for a good scrap with a Bloodthirster! Noble hero on the back of a great drake battling a big nasty daemon=legendary. Got to finish my current Stormcasts first. It has been pledged.
Anyways, my Stormcast scheme for Knights of the Aurora Chamber has changed a bit. Instead of shading the silver armour with Nuln Oil, I've used Coelia Greenshade. Gives it that nice greenish hue.I'm then going to layer up with Ironbreaker and Runefang for the highlighting.
I like that a lot AOV, gives a really nice ethereal quality to the Stormcast Eternals, seems like you could paint a fair few units quickly in that scheme as well. Hope you get over the slump soon.
Managed to get 2 games of Deathwatch in today, first of which was Mission II: Vox Noctis. For this one, you can't use the same characters as you did in the first mission as it's happening simultaneously. The Deathwatch can only field 6 so for this one I ran with Jetek Suberei, Garran Branatar, Jensus Natorian, Anton Delassio, Zameon Gydrael and Drenn Redblade.
Victory Conditions
Deathwatch: Get 4 marines to occupy all 4 of the energy cell zones at the Vox Array section. Genestealer Cult: Kill 3 marines before they reach the Vox Array.
Board setup:
Spoiler:
To begin with, I sent Suberei up the right flank and Delassio up the left to try and get to the other end as quickly as possible. This would mean my brother has less time to gather his strength. Delassio's jump pack allows him to move up to Combat range instead of traversing 2 zones on foot. So that's about 8" give or take. Suberei is also pretty quick on his bike and can move 4 zones in a single move. His cyber-eagle allows you to sneak a peek at 1 of the Cult player's ambush cards before you move to allow you to make a judgement on where you want to move to. (shown below)
Spoiler:
My brother gets pretty lucky with his card draws for pretty much the entirety of this mission (bastard). Starting with Purestrains and a bucket load of cultists as well as a Magos. Though the latter didn't do very well with his Domination ability, all my team members ignored the voices in their heads and powered on through. So no reducing my marines brainless drooling genestealer prey.
Spoiler:
In hindsight, I probably should have sent more guys with Suberei and Branatar. My brother managed to get 2 mining lasers on one of his ambush reveals, and the extra firepower wouldn't have gone amiss! Picking your characters is pretty important. Grytt's frag cannon was sorely missed for this mission! After some frustratingly bad shooting from me, I managed to press on and close in on the target. Suberei blasts to the other end of the map and activates the teleport beacon allowing Branatar's slow arse to catch up (he can only move 1 zone at a time, but can fire both his flamer and the meltagun in each Deathwatch shooting phase!) Again, I suffer some really crappy dice rolls and struggle to kill that fething Magos. His psychic shield gives him and any models in the same zone a 2+ save. I eventually managed to bump him off with a well placed plasma pistol shot (Gydrael) and a few kraken rounds (Suberei). I think I could have really benefited from Edryc Setorax(RG) being in on this one, You can't shoot at him unless he's at Combat/Assault Range, and he only needs 2+'s to hit things with his lightning claws!
Spoiler:
Speed is definitely the essence of this mission, don't mess about! Try to kill the things in your way, cause a lot of the time the cultists can't shoot for gak lol. Saying that though, I spent a lot of time trying to kill the fething Primus and his mates. Bastard just wouldn't die. Truly, the dice gods favoured my brother for this one, as his autorifle wielding little gaks managed to bring down Branatar... the fething terminator!! Ughhh! Suberei followed shortly after that and then Natorian. MISSION FAILED.
Campaign progress:
Deathwatch 1 Genestealer Cult 1
Spoiler:
**Edit:
I also managed to get mission 3 done, but my camera battery was flat so no pics unfortunately. Deathwatch did manage to win this one! Basically I had to go fetch the silly Inquisitor's servo skull that was floating about. (Locate the C.A.T. Space Hulk mission, anyone?). This mission was a lot less stressful than Mission II since I had Grytt and his trusty frag cannon handy to clear a lot of the Cultists before they became a problem. The Cult get to use EVERYTHING for this one so I had to tackle the Patriarch on like, turn 3. Which was a bit daunting to say the least. Thankfully, the dice gods favoured me for this one! Cassius and I think, Suberei brought him down.( Christ it's so much easier to remember things with pics!) Setorax effectively breezed through the map and was in and out relatively unscathed. (He did take a wound, but I made a combat recovery that brought him back to full wounds )
Man you've been busy. I didn't know those Execution force expansion missions were a thing - so thanks for that. Downloading them now. I look forward to playing it, but the assembly and painting is putting me off. The same have stopped me doing anything with Calth or Overkill as well, though they both look like a lot of fun.
Troll WIP looks great, and a good recovery on the Blood Angel model as well. Good luck on getting those Stormcast finished as well. The Greenshade does give it a nice look.
Great to see the Genestealer cult get a victory! I think I've seen so many reviews of mission 1 only (which seems very hard to win as the GC player), it's nice to see the campaign overall is much more level pegged.

Can't wait for more :-)
Mission I is pretty harsh on the Cultists. Of the 25 of them you have to kill, less than half actually got close enough to shoot/stab the Deathwatch.
I got thrashed in Mission IV and V as well lol. The score is currently Deathwatch 2 Genestealer Cult 3.
Will post pics later today as it's a bit tricky to do from a smartphone. My dice rolls were truly horrendous last night.
Looking good, the chest highlights and brazier especially. Just afew of the highlights look a tiny bit thick so maybe a fine detail clean up rather than a wash? It is one of those trial and error things, good luck AOV.
aye - I don't think another wash would be a fixer. It may actually tone the hoghlights down too much so they aren't noticeable at all. I'd maybe add a few points of light reflection to bring it out. bottom edge of the hip plate, top of the knee, bottom outside corner of the greave and then leave it at that. The metal arm is looking great. really nice oily metal look
My WIP Stormcast Eternals so far.. Ladies and Gents, I present the Knights of the Aurora Chamber. Needs some more Prosecutors with Knight-Vexillor (and possibly Knight Azyros) to reflect their rapid strike nature.
Also got a box of Paladin Retributors (2 headed hammers).. might build them as Decimators(2 headed axes) or Protectors (Glaives) You can imagine, they'll look pretty nice in the colour scheme I've picked for this army.
Quick update: Been going back over some of my previous models and giving them some Coelia Greenshade to give em that lovely green tint. Also went back to my Lord Relictor and gave him some more colour. Sometimes the amount of detail on models can be really off-putting, painting wise. Painted the candles Ceramite White (though sadly, that fairly new paint pot is on its way out. Some paint has settled in the lid, so it now won't shut properly) and a wash of Seraphim Sepia to create that creamy white wax colour. Started on the hourglass with Fenrisian Grey which will then be followed by Xereus purple, Genestealer purple and finally White Scar to get that glass look.
Lord Relictor looks great AoV! Can't wait to see the base all done too. Martian Ironearth sounds like a great choice. Should really help the metals stand out.
Might put some rubble around the bottom of the reliquary staff so it looks like he's smashed it into the ground, before unleashing Sigmar's lightning upon his foes. Thor style.
Did a wee bit on my Lord-Celestant and Lord-Relictor this weekend, namely the Dracoth mount (face and horns/spikes) on the former and the Reliquary (candles and haft) on the latter.
With the arrival of Imperial Knight: Renegade today, I took a break from my Stormcast Eternals to have a dabble with the as yet, "naked" Imperial Knight that's been sat doing nowt for a good while. Behold the fruits of my labour so far(bit rough arsed, but I'm just blocking the colours in at the moment):
Not sure about the livery on the pauldrons- according to the codex, they have one section in black (allegiance to IoM) and the other for their House Livery (shown in pic above). Question is, do I add that green band at the bottom as per the shield, or just leave it in bone white? I'm thinking the latter so it doesn't clash with the shell on top. Thoughts? Also any suggestions for personal livery (gatling arm pauldron) would be great too! Thanks for looking!
God-machines don't worry about colors clashing, that's too human of an concept. Even the smaller knight class Titans can have pimp styled color choices .
Theophony wrote: God-machines don't worry about colors clashing, that's too human of an concept. Even the smaller knight class Titans can have pimp styled color choices .
See example below to see what I mean when I say personal livery:
So the yellow panels are Personal livery, and red is the knight house livery. The black aquila and panels, represent the knight's allegiance to the Imperium. If it's sworn to the AdMech then it would be red/yellow/black panels with a skull/cog thingy
Been sucking my thumb on this for a bit and I was thinking maybe a weirwood tree face from Game of Thrones (looks a bit silly actually, so probably not) Suggestions anyone?
I think the Weirwood tree face could look quite good really, maybe just do some doodles/practice on paper and see what you can come up with? The whole livery thing can be quite a headache.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: I think the Weirwood tree face could look quite good really, maybe just do some doodles/practice on paper and see what you can come up with? The whole livery thing can be quite a headache.
Er just a bit. I've had this particular knight since October last year lol. Was sorely tempted just to do a Knight House from the codex, but me being the stubborn fool I am, decided I wanted to make a rod for my own back.
**Edit: I appear to have made him a Baron. Suppose that's as close to a Lord as you can get so the green stripes stay.
Not doing the weirwood face for the personal livery. Looks silly. I'm going to use the Freeblade decals instead.
Ahh masking tape..
Makes a lovely job- just need to tidy up the bone coloured bits and finish the smaller armour panels. Then neaten the metal work (when I get a new pot of Ushabti Bone...)
Bit more on the carapace today.. metal work and bone coloured armour. Added some shading of Agrax Earthshade and Biel-Tan Green to the recesses. Plus Nuln Oil to the metal bits.
Little update- just received my DZ: Infestation pledge. A bucket load of Industrial Quadrant stuff Going to mix it up a bit and get a nice industrial style board going so ermmm...lots.
That's sme great progress on the Knight. I really like the colors your doing with it and the stripe placement.
A mining Facility would be an excellent game board. dont forget to grab some model train tracks for the mine cars and make a good slag pile for cover as well.
Anyone else find the balcony on the Sanctum Imperialis a complete ball ache to do? Cannot get the fether to line up.

The stripes on the back piece denote a Knight's rank in their House. This one is a Baron (as close to a Lord as I could get for this House Stark knight!). I don't think I'll be calling him Robb, Eddard, Brandon, Benjen or Rickard lol. Bad luck!
More recess shading, and more layering mostly. Added Ushabti bone to the gunshield on the heavy stubber and avenger gatling cannon. Debating if I should leave it as Ushabti bone or give it some Warpstone Glow as well. Also debating the Reaper chainsword colour scheme. Considered using the classic hazard stripes, but I think it'd look a bit off from the rest of the model. Might just build up the casing with Ironbreaker, then highlight with Runefang and give it a glaze of Guilliman Blue for that Valyrian Steel sorta vibe?
If you want stripes on the chainsword, with the rest of that scheme black and white would actually work, and give you a great canvas for striking weathering and gore.
Knocking it out on that Knight. I'm jelly of your terrain, I only got a bit that was included in the main pledge level for DZ:I and seeing it up close I wish I had 2-3 times that amount. Really handy versatile stuff.
Not had any time to paint this weekend so Knight remains at the stage above. However, I did manage to get a game of AoS in yesterday. My Stormhost vs my brother's Khorne Bloodbound. We played a scenario called The Ritual from the first AoS book. My Stormcast had to defend the Dragonfate Dais from the Khornate war band. Each of my turns I rolled a D6 and made a note of the result. I have to hold the Dais until I reach a total of 20. The result of the D6 can get a +1 modifier if you have a Wizard or Priest within 6" of the ritual site. My brother has to stop the ritual by reaching the Dais and smashing it on a roll of 2+ (the D6 result for him is also modified by +1 if he has a Priest/Wizard)
Sorry for the inactivity of late, folks. Life interfering a fair bit. Ughhhh FFS.
Anyways, long story short re the pics for the battle I had the weekend before last- my phone's brain fell out and decided it would feel better if it just wiped everything and factory reset. And the damn thing hadn't backed itself up since Apr 30th so... yeah. FUBAR.
BALLS.
In the slightly more positive news, my copy of Silver Tower arrived on Friday and I've just this very evening managed to sit down and build a few. Absolutely cracking plastic gubbins. GW really are knocking it out of the park these days with the casting quality. Tzaangors, Horrors, and the Skaven Deathrunner are a delight to assemble. At most, you're looking at 3/4 components for the larger models(non-character) and 1-2 for your small stuff.
Haven't got round to heroes yet, but here's a comparison pic of a Tzaangor next to his Bestigor cousin. Not quite as much of a muscle bound beast as his Undivided companion, but very lean-limbed.
I will post more lovely stuff when my brain isn't empty.
Ustrello wrote: Oh very nice! The silver tower looks like an awesome game especially since you will be able to add heroes from all of the armies eventually
Can pretty much do that right now tbh. Mega bundle on the app (20GBP I think) nets you 37 heroes plus skills pack and treasure pack.
The rules for the Silver Tower models in AoS are pretty cool as well. Gaunt Summoner can have 4 familiars with him, and if he takes wounds in the combat phase, he can choose to let them take the hits.
Can't wait to play this game
Trying so hard to resist buying. Not really into the fantasy side (AoS or WHFB) but both the sculpts and the dame itself look pretty damn fine. Can see myself getting it down the line sometime.....once I've got the backlog cleared and Titan bought maybe. Lol. Now get painting AoV!!!!
evildrcheese wrote: The Silver Tower stuff is really amazing. There's such a backlog of GW stuff I want to buy!
That AoS scenario you played sounds awesome by the way, I do enjoy interesting mission mechanics.
EDC
Usually our games involve just killing each other in a meat grinder, but we have been dabbling in scenario based play recently. Much more interesting.
Silver Tower stuff is brilliant. The Gaunt Summoner is quite dainty though. That dagger and flame piece is pretty delicate so I had to be very careful with cleaning the flash lines off it.
Bugger it... primed up my Sigmar priest. Didn't manage to get him primed all the way since the texture paint hadn't dried up.
On top of that, I got myself the Mighty Heroes expansion for Silver Tower... Pretty sweet deal for £30.00 (at least £80RRP bought individually) when buying this lot alone would've been a good few quid more. GW even went and re-cut that Sorcerer Lord for a round base, which was nice cause chopping up a scenic square base is a pain(did that for my Beastmen Bray Shaman)
Will be using the lantern from the Knight-Venator dual kit as part of a conversion for my Lord Castellant conversion (Halberd, lantern and Gryph hound fellow). Knight-Venator has a pretty kickass set of rules. His Star-fated arrow skill allows you to sacrifice your usual 3 shots for 1, but it does D3+3 damage. If the target has the HERO or MONSTER keyword, the damage is D6+3 damage instead (potentially an insta-kill). Since his arrows have a -1 save modifier (Rending) that can be pretty devastating to your opponent.
Oddly though, only his pet eagle can make melee attacks :/ (which to be fair deals out 3 attacks and causes -3 Rending if you hit on 6s)
Had a bit of a mess around with my Stormcast Prosecutors, to see if I could get them to look something like how they're described in the fluff. No photoshop used here, the pic just came out that way by being too close to the light. But it does look fething awesome.
Paints:
2 layers of Ceramite White and a wash of Guilliman Blue, followed by a dry brushing of White Scar.
He's also a good bit bigger than most of the other infantry sized Skaven models. I don't think it's scale creep though, just allowed more freedom now they don't have to rank up.
Also- You can't see it in the pic, but at the end of his tail, he's holding a throwing star lol. I might paint some Nurgles Rot on to it for that poisoned look.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: That is a very nice mini, are there 2 or 4 in the set? Good WIP too, any ideas of how you are going to do the Silver Tower bases?
There are 2 Deathrunner models. But there's only actually 1 Deathrunner in game. The 2nd model is played as an illusion, so you have to roll to see if you're going to hit the real Deathrunner or not.
Just going to keep it simple- textured paint plus a wee bit of base decor. Might do something different for the Gaunt Summoner though.
I had a bit of a play around last night to learn the rules a bit. Very easy to get into. Though I have a feeling Tzaangors are going to be badass in a fight. I was learning about the adversary phase whereby, the Rune Marked player activates any enemies that appear. Only ended up with one Tzaangor with dual weapons. No biggy I think to myself.
Hero phase: My dwarf rolls to attack and inflicts 3 wounds. The Mistweaver inflicts 1. Need 5 to kill it.
Adversary phase: So being the rune marked player, I (the dwarf) roll on the behaviour chart and he attacks the nearest hero. In this case, it's the Doomseeker (dwarf). 4 attacks instead of 2 as he has dual weapons. On top of that, every successful wound they get, the Tzaangor will try and bite you. Thankfully I managed to save all but one attack, but if these guys appear en masse it could be a very different story!!
Fancy stuff you've got going on here. Something about the whole fantasy reboot just isn't working out for me but I certainly enjoy watching you and others plow through it all
But that skaven dude. Dag. That one is pretty slick.
It puts the lotion on its skin...
I mean I'm building up the skin tone for the Skaven Deathrunner with Cadian Fleshtone after the all-over wash of Agrax Earthshade. That tail is going to be a pain to do though methinks.
So here in jolly Britain we're having a nice bit of 25°C summer heat, which is both a blessing and a curse. No sleep at night and unbearable humidity in the day.
This Sunday just gone, my brother and I delved into the depths of the Gaunt Summoner's Silver Tower. Our first trial, to obtain the first piece of his amulet that, fully restored, would reveal his True Name.
The Trial of Hysh (Realm of Light)took a good few hours to play through for our first attempt at the game. It was then that we realised, just how much replay value this game has. The possibilities are pretty huge, and you can get some really brutal destiny phases.
The destiny phase plays out like this- you roll the 5 purple d6 and discard any doubles or triples results and keep the unique results. Doubles or triples 1s/6s will result in an unexpected event which results in booby traps/more enemies. 2,3,4 or 5s has a familiar coming to meddle/buff the enemy.
One particular destiny roll resulted in the Ogroid blocking our way through a corridor and then having 4 of his Tzaangor buddies come help him out. My brothers Darkoath Chieftain got bludgeoned to near-death by him. I managed to heal him up though before my Warpriest took a few too many hits from an axe wielding Tzaangor and his friend with a khopesh and shield.
Anyways, the remaining destiny dice that haven't been discarded are placed in the centre of the renown tracker. You can use these at pretty much anytime. So say you've run out of action dice, and need to kill something. Use a destiny die. Obviously if you get all 6s or whatever, that counts as a triple and a double. No quadruples or quintuple shenanigans.
Seriously, if you're considering getting this, you should. I had such a great time with it.

The glowey hammers thing was pretty good too
I'm not invested (at all) in AoS. More indifferent but willing to give it a go and play it at some stage when I get around to it. Then again, I play KoW with (mostly) the WHFB background as "my" fluff. I'm happy to use the AoS models (ok, once I paint some) simply as bigger, nastier Orcs or Chaos guys or so forth. The Warhammer World was always a massive melange of ripped-off ideas from everywhere else, so I find it easy enough to fit most things in or just see "Seraphon" as good Olde Lizardmans. Not sure how I'll work Sigmarines into my own personal head-fluff. Maybe go old-school when the WHFB world was a feral world that was isolated from the imperium via warp-storms, and the Sigmarines can be Space Muhreens that "fell to Earth" or summat...

Skavey-Boy Smith is coming along nicely. is that 25C days, or nights?
Hello one and all, real life has been a bit of a busy body so I've not had much opportunity to hobby. I did however, make a start on the Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord from the WHQST: Mighty Heroes bundle. Cracking set of models . Rather nice of GW to recut this fellow so his scenic base will sit on square or round bases now. Base coated all the armour with Retributor Gold, followed up with the lovely new Gloss Agrax Earthshade. Adds great definition to the recesses on your model without toning the base coat down. He won't be wearing solid gold armour here though. I'll be going around all the plates to give it a blue-green look. So Stegadon Green should fit the bill nicely.
I'm also going to try and give him a pale skin tone with Rakarth Flesh and build up from there to give him a sort of albino appearance
Also got around to building the Knight-Venator, who is by the way, ing huge (60mm base). The Star Eagle is a nightmare to attach (for me, at least) as the celestial energy trailing off him slots into part of the lettering on the Venator's parchment.
As ever thanks for viewing and hopefully I should be able to get back on track..
Hello all, been a bit quiet here lately as I've been mired in life stuff. Not much hobbying is getting done. Blah.
I did however, manage to get a couple of games of Silver Tower played. Last weekend was the Trial of Chamon(The realm of Metal) and this week's game was the Trial of Ghyran(The realm of Life). No photos for the former, but a couple for the latter.
We started out pretty well, only having to deal with the Grot Scuttlings and the occasional Pink/Blue/Brimstone horrors. Easy, right?
Spoiler:
As we delved deeper into the Silver Tower, we had a visit from the insanely badass Skaven Deathrunner. Thankfully, he wasn't able to deploy his Illusory Twin ability which would've had us fighting two of them. With 13 wounds each, it would've been a bloody hard slog to put them down. Basically, you have to kill one of them and roll a D6 to see if the one you killed is the real Deathrunner. On a 1-3 it's the illusion, 4-6 it's the real guy. He came back for another go later on, after we got an Unexpected Event generated from the Destiny Phase. He offers you a Warpstone Bomb to make peace, if you haven't already pulled it from the Treasure deck. We had already drawn that card from the deck, so he attacked us.
After putting him down quite violently, we made our way to the Mysterious Vortex chamber. If you jump through the Vortex, it resets the map with whatever Exploration cards you have left and teleports you into the Ingress chamber. This is the tile you start the game on.
Fighting our way through Tzaangors, we reached the Spore Cave.
Spoiler:
This is the Confrontation chamber for the Trial of Ghyran. In it, we were greeted by the Ogroid Thaumaturge and 4 of his Tzaangor buddies. Now, in the chamber there's 2 mushroom clusters that disperse healing spores for the adversaries in the chamber. Balls. On top of killing the beast men and the Ogroid, you have to chop the mushrooms up to prevent them from healing. I had already taken a stomping from the Ogroid's hooves and I had failed to heal up. My brother was trying to hack the Ogroid but unfortunately he kept healing! I had sent my Gryph-hound off to get rid of the Spore shrooms, by which time the Ogroid had stomped us to death. Fail.
Conclusion:
I have come to the conclusion that the Warpriest is best kept further back, where possible. The Gryph-hound can deal a good bit of damage compared to his war hammer. He also has an area effect ability, that burns all adversaries stood in the chamber with him.
The Darkoath Chieftain is a human blender, who deals D3 damage with a swing of his sword(action requires a 4+ to use on his action dice and hits on 3+). If he kills the target he can have a pop at any adversaries in range, using the Deathblow ability. You can only use this once per turn, so you're better off using this on large groups. If you don't have any action dice with a 4+ or above, he can use his axe on a 1+.
Good stuff AoV. That giant winged archer dude seems like he'd be a hell of a fragile game piece, look awesome though upon completion. Glad you're having fun with the new WHQ.
GrimDork wrote: Good stuff AoV. That giant winged archer dude seems like he'd be a hell of a fragile game piece, look awesome though upon completion. Glad you're having fun with the new WHQ.
He's actually pretty solid. Though the parchment and the star eagle are my main points of concern. The wings are fine and can take a bit of hammer. If you pack him up properly, he's not a problem. That's what I love about HIPS- soo much more forgiving than metal or resin.
Getting back into the hobby (painting wise at least) after 3 weeks of next to no activity is hard :/
Spent an hour or so working on my SE Retributors and tried out the Reikland Fleshshade Gloss on the gold. Not entirely happy with it. I may go back and hit it with the normal stuff. What do you guys think?
Also added a couple of layers of Ironbreaker to the silver armour, but leaving enough to show off the Coelia greenshade.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: I definitely like the look of the gloss Agrax better than the Reikland on the gold. The gold on the sorcerer looks exceptional.
Good luck getting back into it AOV, painting up a unit of three Retributors should do the job.
I have another 5 Retributors awaiting assembly, but I won't put them together until I've done ALL of my assembled SCE guys!
Not sure if I want to make them into more Retributors or build them as Decimators or Protectors, though. The Retributors need a minimum of 3 models for a unit, but the Decimators and Protectors need a minimum of 5 models for a unit.
Good motivation to get them painted up then. So what SCE models have you left to paint? I have still got to paint up my AOS starter set...they seem to have been sitting around for an age.
Most things have paint on them to some degree, just have to polish em off!
**edit: I went back and did the Reikland shade wash with the classic stuff.. Much better results! I then dry brushed Golden Gryphon over it, which to be honest creates a better look than with Runefang or Necron compound.
On a further note, I got fed up of my paints being buggered up, so I've gone and bought some stainless steel ball bearings. About 4.5mm diameter, to act as an agitator to help really mix the paint thoroughly when I shake the pots.

This guy looks really good. So, the Gloss washes work differently to the matte ones? Not covering/staining but running into the recesses instead? I might ave to pick some up in that case for a play.

Yeah pretty much. Not really very good for all over washes on super detailed stuff like the lion shoulder pad on the Retributor Prime, but useful for armour such as the Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord's.
Had a little fun with the Sector Imperialis basing kit on my Knight . Needs a little more work but it's coming along nicely!
Behold:
On a further note, my little experiment with the stainless steel bearings in the paint pots appears to have worked like a charm. The paint is mixed far more efficiently!
Red Corsair wrote: I really like it, breaks up that large base while remaining fairly level and not intruding on the model itself. Now finish that thing
I may have to araldite it to the base lol. Not sure I trust poly cement to hold it down properly...
I'll also be adding an injured marine to it, as I kinda have this image in my head of a dying tactical marine making his last stand against the enemy with his sidearm. Then suddenly the Knight comes stomping overhead, laying down a volley of fire with his Avenger gatling cannon and heavy stubber.
Did a little on the Lord Relictor last night. Mainly layering up his armour and some of the smaller details. Wondering if I should just leave his parchment cloak off and leave him as is? He's quite a busy model as it is, so I don't think it'd hurt to leave it off. Apologies in advance for the photo quality, it was quite late!
ie this bit(not my pic):
Here's the Lord Relictor so far(can zoom in on the Gallery if you click the photo):
I am considering the very same thing, the sculpted armour on the back of the model is really well done as well. Thing is it almost dry fits so you could probably paint it up separately and just attach it temporarily if the whim takes you.
Looks awesome Aov! Just needs the base done and he looks ready to go (I would light up the existing parchment with Screaming Skull too). Do you have a photo of the back without the cloak?
Bottle wrote: Looks awesome Aov! Just needs the base done and he looks ready to go (I would light up the existing parchment with Screaming Skull too). Do you have a photo of the back without the cloak?
No, as I said it was quite late in the evening when I took the pic lol. I'll get around to it when I'm back at home! Not much to look at tbh, it's basically a Retributor suit of armour with bling on.
That's cool. Well it looks fine from the front and I sure it'll look fine from the back too. Cloaks always work well to set aside character models however, which might be crucial in the wider Stormcast army. Still with his skull helm and banner he has enough to set him apart already.
Hello, all. Been quiet for a bit on here, and sadly not much in the way of painting/gaming has been getting done :(. There has however been the odd purchase for the grey pile of shame now and again.
This has been mainly due to real life stuff (I won't bore you with the details) and PC gaming. I've decided to revisit the Forgotten Realms and enter the world of Faerun, to face the evils of the Bhaalspawn, Sarevok. Been playing as a fire-breathing, spellcasting badass, a Dragon Disciple sorcerer.
Now, on to the supply drop. Today's loot includes a sweet, sweet eBay deal in the form of the now OOP Dreadfire Portal and Eternal Stairway. Both of which will fit rather nicely into the Age of Sigmar with their markings of the various realms. scattered about. Scored a pretty fantastic deal- £15 and still in the box. Shrink wrap and all .
ie these:
Spoiler:
Second of all is the awesome new Shattered Dominion bases.
That is a pretty good deal on the terrain, I was recently shocked by the OOP prices on ebay of some of the fantasy terrain such as the fortified manor and the like.
The bases look pretty good, they look a bit more defined than the recent Sector Imperialis bases. I can see a lot of people using these for Silver Tower as well. Did you see last weeks White Dwarf with the various basing paint schemes?

I did. Which was part of the reason why I caved and bought them, haha. I noticed the better definition on these as well, but I imagine rocks and carved stone are a wee bit easier to cast than the sci-fi industrial stuff? I dunno. I think I'll be using them largely for Silver Tower, as it does fit rather nicely with the themes on the board. I'm definitely using some of the shrooms on the Ogroid's base.
I won the Portal/Stairway kit on an auction which was about to finish. I don't think my rival bidder expected anyone to snap it up, as there's quite a few on eBay right now. I hate that people think they can jack the price up to absurd levels just because it's OOP. It was worth x when it was available and it's still worth that now.
Fortified Manor is a pretty huge kit from the look of things.
Had a quick dabble with my new scenery gubbins, and built the stairway. Just got the gargoyles to add to it now and needs basing. Hated the central column when I was building it though. I had to grip it pretty tight for about 10mins to keep the gaps to a minimum, and ended up with the runes of the mortal realms etc pressed into my hand, lol.
In the words of one Wade Wilson, "Maximum Effort!". I WILL FINISH THIS BUGGER . Even if it kills me lol. More work on the armour panels, building up the layers of Ushabti Bone. Still not sure where to go with his big ol' reaper chainsword. Suggestions welcome.
I think I may leave the feet as metal. I imagine the paintwork wouldn't last long down there anyways.
A ways to go yet, but he's getting there, I think.
The knight is looking good, cool scheme. I think for the Chainsword you might want something quite high-contrast just to help it stand out. Black and yellow stripes would do it, but even solid red would work nicely with the rest of the colours.
If you go that route, I'd mirror it on the cannon's shielding as well, just to balance the mini.
The blogs have been pretty quiet of late AOV...I guess a combination of a lot of Europe being on the summer holidays and the hotter weather in the States etc?
I always kept the feet as metal on my Knights, nobody really looks at them and they will probably be surrounded by basing materials anyway. As for the reaper I think a bone/green/bone over the three armour plates would look pretty cool. Put some of the Knight decals over the top as either honour badges or kill marking and job done.
This quiet around here these days eh, except for the DW thread where loadout quibbles have taken over. You seem to be the voice of reason over there at the mo!!!!
Knight is looking tidy. For the chainsword I'd paint it in the green with on or two 3mm diagonal stripes in the bone colour about halfway along the blade. Think the bone could use a little recess shading maybe too. Feather out a bit of ye olde agrax earth shade should do the trick nicely.

Funny you should mention that, as I was cracking on with the earthshading shortly after the pic was taken The silver trim needs sorting too as I've splurged a bit of Ushabti bone and Warpstone Glow on it by accident.
I think for my next Knight (I got Knight Renegade a while ago), I'll be doing a Jon Snow style paint scheme(Night's Watch), so black plates and silver/grey trim and then this for his head, so that I may paint it white a la Longclaw/Ghost. Not a cheap bit by any means, but it'll look fething amazing. Not sure if I'd go with the "White Wolf", or just the "Bastard of Winterfell"
Spoiler:
I've decided I should just say "Oooh! Pretty!" or words to that effect, in the N&R threads and leave it at that. Seems you can't discuss N&R without people being silly.
Just a quick update today, for the Lord Relictor. Nearly there, not quite sure what to do with the reliquary skeleton's sword. Do I make it glowing, or just a blue glaze? Hmm... Maybe do his eyes with a glow, perhaps. What do we think folks?
I've also been cracking on with Lord Stark. My god, this thing has sooo much to go at. Why did I buy 2 again?
Got a couple of pics of the former, but not managed any for the latter. So without further ado, onto the photos! Spoilered for convenience, as usual.
He's looking good, nice job avoiding making him look too busy, that's something I struggled with on mine as the sculpt is a bit cluttered to say the least!
It's looking great AoV! I would personally just make the sword old and rusty - but out of your options I would choose a blue glaze - I think a glowing sword up high might draw attention away from the rest of the model.

Old and rusty... maybe.
@Para: I was referring to the Knight, mate. Lotsa details. And I haven't even got to the decals stage yet! Ugh.
I have never been brave enough to tackle much in the way of Tzeentch, I just cannot get my head around the general brightness of the pallette. Good luck in getting them painted up.
And here we go... jumping into the Silver Tower painting with some relatively easy models before I tackle stuff like the Gaunt Summoner etc.
Primed with brushed on Vallejo air primer, followed up by 2 or 3 coats of Caledor Sky for a basecoat.
Just the teeth and fleshy mouth parts to highlight and then to give him the Shattered Dominion base. Maybe with some of the spare tentacles or mushrooms protruding from the cracks in the ground...

And in other news... I acquired an awesome bit of scenery for my 40k hoard... IN PLASTIC

Great work AOV, the flamer looks excellent, the basing really works for Silver Tower (and AOS to be fair), great to see you making some progress. Have you put the Void Shield Generator together yet, those things are pretty big.
I think for the Pyrocaster(unit leader) I'll be giving it some green warp flame to as per Master Artificer Rhodes' paint tutorial. So Ceramite White followed by a glaze of Way watcher Green, then highlighted with Moot Green and Caliban Green. Should look pretty special.
Had a little experiment with the Gemstone technical paints today and revisited my Space Hulk blingernators.
Using some Soulstone Blue and Spiritstone red technical paints, I mixed the two to create this lovely shade of purple, befitting a Son of Sanguinius' bling. It was 2 parts blue and about 4 parts red in case you wondered .
Boom
Edit: Pic is a little grainy here so I may kill it and get a proper one done...you get the idea though!
"I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive..."
Hello one and all. Been busy with life stuff of late, but I have managed to build something. Got rather lucky and snapped up a plastic void shield generator to hook my promethium relay pipes up to . Very nice piece of kit, thought the dais suspended by those pillars was fiddly. The pillars were about 10 pieces each on their own, but they're bloody solid so less chance of them snapping. The large cogs on the bottom can be turned independently of the rest of the building, though it seems a bit pointless considering I have to paint it. Base it or leave it as is?
Blimey, that is one big kit. I still think the rrp is at least 30% too much. I would say go for the no base option, then it will be much more flexible as a terrain piece. But that Defiler lurking in the background means that I cannot shift the mental image of it scaling the VSG a la King Kong.

Hence why my flgs was kind enough to chop a tenner off the price.
Continuing with my 40K stuff again, this time in the form of Deathwatch. I'm going to be making this kill team to add a bit of fun to Deathwatch Overkill games. Introducing the first 2 members of Kill Team Excis(WD SEPTEMBER2016). The doomed squad of heroes who went to investigate Ghosar Quintus the first time around.
Say hello to Vondel Omid(drawn from the Crimson Fists) with his Infernus pattern heavy bolter, and Luca Thalassi(drawn from the Flesh Tearers) with bolter and power sword.
Kill Team Excis assembled and ready for action... just needs a lick of paint now... From left to right: Thaniel Ectros(White Consuls), Luca Thalassi(Flesh Tearers), Stentor Pranus(Novamarines), Vondel Omid(Crimson Fists) and Koenen Siegfric(Howling Griffons).
And yes- those barrels will be getting drilled
Just got the Vanguard Veterans and the Dreadnought to assemble now .
Not been getting much time to hobby this week, although I did manage to get a game of DW Overkill in last night. So here's a brief summary of that fateful mission.
Mission IX: Eliminate the Alpha Threat
++KILL TEAM CASSIUS CLOSING IN ON ALPHA THREAT. PLEASE STAND BY++
After successfully regrouping with Cassius and making it to the elevator in Mission 8: Purgation Protocols, the Kill Team make it down to the inner sanctum of the Genestealer Cult. The Four-armed Emperor would die this day.
Deathwatch objectives: Kill the Patriarch Genestealer objectives: Kill all Astartes.
Kill Team: All 11 Deathwatch Broodmind deck: After setting up the Patriarch, Primus, Magus and his familiars in the throne room, you draw 8 Broodmind cards and lay 5 of them at as Cult Ambushes each turn at the areas shown on the map (Lots and lots of cultists!)
Mission special rules:
Last Gasp: The Deathwatch are surrounded by enemies and running low on ammo. No combat recoveries allowed. Attacks limited to Combat range or assault. Sustaining Nutrients: If the Patriarch is on his throne and has suffered a wound, flip his card over to the unwounded side at the end of the Genestealer attack phase (if he's still alive). Psychic Conduit: When on his throne the Patriarch can choose to use his Psychic Scream to attack a single Deathwatch marine on any board section, or use it normally. Energy Field: When the Patriarch is on his throne, he is protected by an energy shield. He cannot be attacked at any range greater than Assault. (Basically you have to run up and stab him if he stays on the throne The Patriarch can be SUCH a fething pain in the ass on this mission! My brother basically just left him sat on his throne all the way through, so he just kept psychic screams pumping out.
There was a fair bit of platform jumping going on in the first few turns, there're a few damaged gantries on the way to the Patriarch's Throne Room. I had to split my forces a little, to counter any unpleasantness coming from the left flank. Unfortunately, during my platform jumping, a few of my guys sustained injuries (you roll a D6 and if you roll 1s, you sustain an injury- not helpful in this regard as you can't combat recover!). After jumping the gaps Grytt, Natorian, and Suberei all took wounds from not sticking the landing well and my brother's first few attack phases, basically involved him sniping the wounded ones with the Patriarch's Psychic Scream. The Magus was also pretty annoying, there were a few instances where he cast Dominion and immobilised folks (Namely Branatar, Gydrael and Donatus)
By the time I got into the Throne Room, it was looking a bit grim. I'd lost half my Kill Team to the vile Xenos mutant abominations. 2 of which(Grytt and Natorian) didn't even get off the first board section. Redblade took a hit from a mining laser (promptly went and butchered the perpetrator and his friends after) then had his head popped by the Patriarch's Psychic Scream. Setorax got gunned down by cultists (but had just killed A LOT of them with grenades and the Primus with claws).
My brother then made the mistake of moving his Magus within range of my melta guns (Sorrlock and Branatar). I had Cassius, Sorrlock and Gydrael leg it into the throne room, smashing, stabbing and melting things as they went. Branatar sadly got Dominion cast on him so he stood there like a lemming as a cultist shot him with an auto rifle (I assume in the eye?) Then that was followed by bursting his head like a melon with Psychic Scream. My god. My brother had so many good rolls with that spell for this mission. Needs a 5+ to cast it and it has Cleave so you don't get an armour save!
With Donatus, Gydrael and Delassio holding the rear, Cassius and Sorrlock closed with the Patriarch. My brother's Magus returns via reinforcements and my brother uses a gambit card called The Horror which basically means any attacks on the Patriarch need 6s to hit instead of their regular roll for that turn. I managed to get one 6. Which then regenerated the next turn cause he's on the Throne. FFS. Cassius gets murdered by the Patriarch and so does Sorrlock. By this time, Gydrael has moved in to fight the Patriarch as well. Donatus gets Dominion cast on him then shot and stabbed. Delassio gets shot.
Gydrael faces off against the Patriarch, only to be dominated, followed by a "genestealer massage" as my brother put it. Even with Gydrael's Grim Resolve rule, he didn't manage to land successful hits. It basically allows him to make an attack even when he's been "killed".
++COMMUNICATIONS LOST. KILL TEAM CASSIUS NOT RESPONDING++
++STANDBY++
++IN FEALTY OF THE GOD EMPEROR OUR UNDYING LORD, AND BY THE GRACE OF THE GOLDEN THRONE, I DECLARE EXTERMINATUS UPON THE IMPERIAL WORLD OF GHOSAR QUINTUS. I HEREBY SIGN THE DEATH WARRANT OF AN ENTIRE WORLD, AND CONSIGN A BILLION SOULS TO OBLIVION.
Hat tip to my brother for the name. Here is the venerable dreadnought, Nebiros.
It is rumoured amongst the Inner Circle of the Dark Angels, that one of the Fallen lies within the Watch Fortress of Talasa Prime. While Nebiros' experience is an invaluable asset to the Deathwatch, he has a habit of making his Watch-Brothers feel uneasy in his presence. Particularly those of the Dark Angels. On occasion, those trying to discover his identity usually wind up dying under suspicious circumstances on the field of battle.
evildrcheese wrote: DW marines and dread are looking great, suck awesome models. When you gonna bite the bullet and start painting these suckas?
EDC
I've already started. With Zameon Gydrael (the Dark Angel) from Overkill. Was painting his armour and robes last night as it happens.
In present day 40K, he's currently participating in the Warzone Fenris Campaign, as is the Space Wolves guy, Drenn Redblade (now a Long Fang). Clearing out the daemon incursion in Morkai's Keep.
Got a little painting done on Gydrael last night. Robes, face and the silver arm mostly. Quite happy with how the chest came out though. Going to be painting the dagger and the top of the wings gold I think to make that pop. Need to fix the legs though cause i got paint all over them doing the inside of the robes.
In other news, my copy of The Burning of Prospero has arrived! Should be building some MkIII this weekend with any luck.
Been building some Legion Astartes, Sisters of Silence and Custodes Shield-Captain today. Gotta say, GW continue to kick things up a notch lately. The MkIII marines are stunning and very well designed for plastic. Sisters are a bit bloody fiddly- so tiny when you've spent so long building Astartes and Stormcasts. Smaller than Eldar I think.
While the Sisters are tiny compared to Astartes, they're pretty badass. More than a match for the traitors.
As for Custodes, well, they're fething huge and bloody gorgeous minis. Love their beefy Guardian Spears and Sentinel Blades.
My brother has been busy today also, building his Gal Vorbak (counts as Sons of Horus Luperci- their equivalent possessed unit)and Legionnaires
Nice stuff going on here AoV. Really like the deathwatch stuff and think its cool you modelled the "original" kill team from Overkill. I have the game, I just need to get around to playing it.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: Looking good. What resin heads have you used on some of the Mk III marines? They look great.
I am loving everything in Prospero bar the Custodians, the relic blades just look far too thick to me.
Anyway seems like you have had a big day or two of construction, keep it up.
The heads are from the Dark Angels Legion upgrade set. I think their main armour set is modified MkII/MkIII if I remember right.
Custodes use Sentinel blades- big power swords with a bolter built-in. I can see where you're coming from, but I quite like them. Has a Cloud-esque Final Fantasy feel to it that I like (you won't hear me saying that often, as I hate J-RPGs). I am however, awfully tempted by that sweet, sweet grav-tank they've got coming up.
I really really need to stop building more stuff, and finish painting the stuff I've got. My grey pile o shame is getting out of hand lol.
Your builds are looking very cool. I plan to build the WD Overkill team myself, so it's great to see you've started - I look forward to watching them come out. The dread looks impressive, and I found the little fluff snippet you've written to be very cool as well.
Black Chaos Black Primer, Abaddon Black base, Dark Reaper and Fenris Grey highlights(to be done)
Silver/Metal Leadbelcher, Ironbreaker and a wash of Nuln Oil. Light dry brush Runefang Steel/Stormhost silver
Lenses Ceramite White with Bloodletter glaze
Also had a falling out with my Game&Gear Ichiban Pro paintbrushes, as they just fail to keep their shape no matter how much I clean them with brush soap. So my patronage has switched to W&N series 7 brushes and Citadel.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: Looks as good as done to me AOV, and looks extremely good to boot. Are all 30 mkIII going to be DA?
Mostly in 30k colours yes. Though I'll certainly be using some of those bits for 40k! They should throw a nice bit of variety in the mix
I'm splitting the legionaries with my brother, so 15 for me, 15 for him. We already got 2 copies of B@C. He gets the Tartaros pattern terminators also. I can always snaffle a set later. I get the Sisters and Custodes, as he's not too bothered about them (being Sons of Horus and all).
Hello, all! Been having a wee break from the P&M side of things in November. Just felt a bit bleh about it all. I may have to purge a few items in the Bay of E(vil).
Last night, I did some more on my Dark Angels Legion. Specifically the Contemptor dread from the Calth set. Mainly blocking in the colours and shading the metal. I used Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade on the joints and chassis, to make the decorative trim on the model stand out more. Been thinking about whether or not I should dry brush the armour or edge highlight it. I don't really think Contemptors are suitable for dry brushing since they have a lot of smooth open areas. What do you guys think?
Also drilled the barrels on the multi-melta and the exhaust stacks on the power plant, as well as painting in the eye lenses on the head. I think I'm going to make it a rule of thumb that those get done before I highlight the head, as I can pretty much guarantee that I'll end up splorching paint over my highlights. Drives me crazy. The lenses were painted like so: Ceramite White>Mephiston Red> Nuln Oil> Troll Slayer Orange> Yriel Yellow.
The base was done with Astrogranite Debris and some rocks. Needs shading and highlighting yet. I may put a dead Sons of Horus marine on there too...
I think that edge highlighting is certainly the way to go as it came up a treat on the MkIII marine. I hope that you have no further splotching issues!
How is the Astrogranite Debris to work with? It looks loaded with sand and grit and so could be a bit of a pain to manipulate.
Thraxas Of Turai wrote: I think that edge highlighting is certainly the way to go as it came up a treat on the MkIII marine. I hope that you have no further splotching issues!

I believe they use micro-plastic particles in these, so if you do get some use a spreader and DO NOT clean it in the sink. Wipe it on some kitchen roll. I use the spreader tool from GW which is pretty good.
Paint splorching is a bit of an issue for me, as my hands can be a bit shaky when I haven't eaten anything prior to painting.
Also forgot to mention that I got some new gubbinz from the Awaken Realms Awakening Kickstarter. Basically some nice objective markers and little terrain bits and pieces.
The skull portal will be good for my brother's Khornate forces in 40K and Age of Sigmar. Not sure where to go with the crystalline portals. Maybe use them for Silver Tower. That would be pretty cool, no? The tentacle pillar thing I'm thinking maybe using that as a Beastmen Herdstone.
Nice work on the 30k DA stuff so far, mate. I'm just getting restarted on painting and P&M Blogging again. On the bright side, yours wasn't too hard for me to get up to date on again!
evildrcheese wrote: Contemptor looks great the eyes really pop. I really like those portals.

Cheers folks. Tried to do the quick n easy White+Bloodletter glaze with him, but it didn't really pan out because the Contemptor eye lenses are a much bigger area than normal Astartes helmets. I had to soak the Bloodletter up with a brush pretty quickly.

Yeah, I've hit a bit of a low point with my hobbying of late (and overall mood) so I haven't got much done.
More progress with mr contemptor . Obviously not perfect- some tidying up to do. Not sure where to go with the weapon casing on the multi-melta... Red or hazard stripes?
Looking good - as for the casing, either could work. Hazard stripes are very much a RT-look and would look very nice against the black body, though people these days often think they're IW-exclusive.
A red casing also would look good, and has late-RT/2e overtones to it. Since you've gone for black bolter casings on your MKIII above, I'd go with the hazard stripes.
Had a little break from the Legiones Astartes and dabbled in Maleficarum . A minion from the Silver Tower . Had a gander at the nice lil tip of the day video for Pink Horror skin.
It was too cold to spray paint (and dark by the time I got home) so I used Ceramite White as a starting point. Then washed with Carroburg Crimson, followed by Pink Horror. Calling it a night for now, but there's Emperor's Children and Screaming Skull highlights to follow. I think I'll convert the other one into The Librarian who you bump into in one of the rooms for Silver Tower. He's basically a slightly more powerful pink horror with a nasty fire spell. I may go back over it with a few glazes of Carroburg Crimson as there's still some white bits showing in the recesses.
As an early xmas present from my brother, I've got some Scarab Occult terminators and Rubricae coming to help start my Sons of the Cyclops(Black Legion). Thanks to WHQ:ST I've got a few Tzaangors and daemons to throw in there too. The best thing about this being, I can flit between 40K and Age of Sigmar rather easily now everything's on round bases .
I'm going to have them led by Iskandar Khayon (the very same guy from the ADB book, Talon of Horus). Equipped with an axe looted from the corpse of a Space Wolf on Prospero. He'll have a handful of Rubricae in amongst his Black Legion minions. As well as the Scarab Occult as his terminator bodyguard.
**Edit: I may also have to find a Fenrisian wolf to represent his tutelary, Gyre. She possesses the wolf of the guy that Khayon kills on Prospero.
The first of 10 Rubricae assembled . Nothing too major, just an inferno bolter. Also received my 10 plastic Plague stage 3 mutants from Mantic's Warpath Kickstarter. Far superior to the Deadzone restic versions. They come with pretty much all the options: xflamers, x2 mortar, x2 heavy machine guns, x2 grenade launchers, commander upgrade and a couple of Plague doggies .
Spoiler:
Also got a Deredeo dreadnought on the way, with the not-at-all-phallic hellfire plasma cannonade. Debating whether or not to give him the dirty great missile launcher, or the atomantic pavise when it comes out(basically a shield bubble).
Looks like 2017 is going to blast a hole of epic proportions in my bank account with Tzaanuary 2017 on the way. SO.MUCH.COOL.STUFF!! (Must finish the Stormcast and Silver Tower stuff first...ughhhh. Bad AoV.)
