You know knightley... that black visor *really* changes the look of the figure. Very ninja (especially with the naginata in the high-guard). I'm sure this was your plan all along... and you probably already commented on it here... but it went completely over my head until just now... Man I'm a dunce!
OOHOOHOOHOOOOOOO! This is looking great Knightley, got to get cracking and finish yours up too. I'll get right on it. Can't wait to see them both finished!
The painting is beautiful as always, but (sorry if this has already been asked) where is that head from? I like it a lot,Might make a nice helmet for my captain.
What Yellowbeard said man, I love that touch of the LDP on the shoulder man, that rocks! Thanks man cant wait to see it in person! Also love the highlights below the eyes, makes the helmets shape look awesome.
Thanks alot Knightley, ill finish yours up as soon as i can!
@Yellowbeard - Thanks! I hope it wasn't to over the top, I'm not one for adding those kinds of little details, but figured what the hey, lets try something new
@M.K - Cheers
@LDP - Cool, I'm sure it will look better in person
@Graven - Will PM soon!
@Proto - Noted, I should be able to help you out
@Doomhunter - provided its not the one waking the younger one up over snakes it should be good. postage and packaging might be a awkward thing to address though.
Looking very nice, and good to see you're going helm, not head on him; looks so much better. And no, it would be #2 you could have, that's the one that doesn't sleep as opposed to #1 and his snakey confusion.
Nice! Draigo looks a touch busy at this stage but I think it's because the colours aren't finished so he isn't quite matching the finished stuff. That or the image is too small on my phone.
@Swordwind - Fingers crossed Draigo will get all his daemon hearts in battle
@Graven - Yeah the bland helm makes him look slightly constipated, Now lets talk logistics about sending a child through the post. I believe Air holes would be a good start
@C L - I agree the whole model is OTT in terms of stuff they've put on him, lets see how it goes.
@WM - Agreed
Update; while not much to look at still, the first stage grey is done
@Graven - Haha! Yeh i've got the BT and DA upgrade kits planked away. It's all for kitbashing 500points of DIY Marines which i also have boxed up and waiting.
@Graven - Had to laugh at the Armenian Mafia, I had dealings with those guys about 10 years ago, they still contact me for protection money, I wouldn't use them again. And I'm fully aware of what I have started, something I am very happy about doing!
@Tipios - Well once I get to paint the smaller details I hope it will pop just right
@Imperial Monkey - I start with GW Tin bitz as the base, I then give it a Leviathan purple wash, I raise up the color with dwarf bronze and edge highlight with burnished gold. Hope that helps.
@C L - Perfect the league of extraordinary converters has another member to add to its team, welcome brother and may your marines be unique and awesome when you've completed them.
Update: the second coat of grey is done, In hindsight it probably didn't need it but better to be safe than sorry
@Tipios - hehe, I will definitley look at getting one possible 2 as escorts for my chibihawk but I need to get through the models I currently have before I buy more.
@Graven - do tell about your bits? you might give me even more ideas!
Beautiful job. Tau parts, this time. Got a battle suit of some variety and a piranha, need a few bodies to fly and die. Then again, I've also got a Russ hull, turret and sponsons spare. Need sides for that though. How about you? Any plans for winged death?
@Tipios - Totally, have they released them yet? I can't see anything to support my claim.
@Graven - Was thinking of adding valkrye/vendetta parts, the round missile launchers and the wings could be useful, I would need to see how the thing goes together first though.
Busy? Maybe. Awesome? Definitely!
Seriously though, you did a great job on him and your crisp, grey armour defuses the mass of detail to the point where the sculpt doesn't look busy any more.
I don't think I've posted in your thread before, but I've been subbed for a while. I really like your stuff and this latest figure is another example of why. Very nicely done!
@Tipios - Oooh, I also just got the GW email about it as well, looks interesting indeed!
@eldartau1987 - Thank you! stop by again, I'm sure there will be plenty more
@Gits - I'm glad you like it
@M.K - Cheers
@C L - Thank you for your analysis of the model and my painting, anything I could have picked up on?
@Yellowbeard - Thanks, I like the shield the most
@Gutsplitta - I had to re-read your name again (seeing as we already have a Gitsplitta) I think this is the first time you've posted so thank you very much, and thank you again for the continuing sub
@Miss Dee - oooh, interesting idea for the new flier right there!
Update: Started on the repaint of the dreadnaught, got quite a bit done, base colors and first coat of grey
Knightley wrote:@C L - Thank you for your analysis of the model and my painting, anything I could have picked up on?
Since you asked i went back and looked really hard for something to complain about but i can't find anything at all. I imagine it's a hard model to paint, one i won't be tackling for a long time but you made it look easy. The dreads coming along nice as well!
@C L - Cheers, I'm sure there is something I could pick out on him, probably that I didn't do extreme highlights on the armor like I did with the other Paladins. But thats something I can do later.
@Vent - Thanks heaps!
Update: well I've reached 4000 posts! a shame I don't have something flashy to post to celebrate the milestone. I guess a second coat of grey will have to do eh?
@Tipios - I'm glad you like it, I wasn't sure if the dark bronze color would work, turns out it does
@Yellowbeard - Thank you!
@Gits - Thanks I would have liked to include more white into the model, but really struggled to find a place to put it.
@Swordwind - I knew this question would pop up. The only way to tell its the same model is to look at the shin guard (there is a GS shield on the plate) and the smoke launchers on the top, everything else was upgraded
@WM - Cheers, I do as well. That and I needed a psyrifleman dread for the GK part of my army.
@Graven - Able to jump 9ft tall space marines in a single bound, able to run faster than a demolisher shell from a Leman Russ. It's super dread. Nuff said
@Young_Logan - Thank you, after the next push I believe I will need to take separate pictures of the armies to get it all in.
@Bigfish - Cheers, turns out I must be pretty good at faces in some cases then.
@WM - Umm... look over there <---- to be honest I wasn't sure how to change it and seeing as no one brought it up before, I didn't bother to change it. Consider its powered shots by a small plasma shell via a magazine?
@LDP - Sticking to a goal I guess, I wanted to do an update every day, so I then need to get something to paint each night
lipsdapips wrote:Nice as always Knightley. I fail to understand how you're so consistant with both painting quality and update frequency, inspiring!
Bet he's a robot. A frighteningly efficient robot.
Having met him today, I can safley say that he is not a robot, just a genius. You thought the models looked good on the interwebs! In person they are fantastic. Thanks for all your advice, and for the GMS marine knightley
You say that. Maybe he's a transformer; he had a bike as his fb pic for a bit. Like that hot chick deception in the extremely rubbish transformers movie. Or maybe a cylon. Yeah. Hey Lucy Lawless was one, and she's from parts antipodes. Yup. Clearly a cylon. Wom-Wom. Wom-Wom.
Also, I realise what my niggle is about this. Plasma guns have got bolter clips still. A fix, which would require no remodelling, would be in the painting - big glowy plasma osl to make it looking like a power cell instead. Just a wee thought.
inmygravenimage wrote:^ PMSL. First time I've seen that version of that meme.
Yay, derailing that'll teach him for posting a day ahead of the rest of us.
Derail to the max!
Okay last thing, do you guys all post on your blogs at the same sort of time or something? If so that's pretty awesome.
@M.K - Cheers, this guy should look pretty good as well.
@Proto - Haha, you're far to kind. As I said if you wanted another time to go through more painting I'm more than happy to help out.
@Graven - Brilliant, the tangent was fantastic. I wish I was a transformer I'd make some serious money from it! and good idea about the plasma OSL bit. Let me think on it.
@C L - Brilliant I was aware of the top three looking the same, not the bottom ones, nice find.
I usually post around 11am during the weekdays and at random times on the weekends.
@YB - Cheers YB yeah I did a test bike over a year ago and its good to get the last one out of the way.
@Gits - Thanks, yeah it's the little things that count right
@N K - Thank you, I didn't use the technique that I worked out on Git's GMS marines cloak, as I wanted it the same as the rest of my army, but I'm happy it still looks ok.
O_o in which universe lols? thats a stone grey, it's pigment content is white based... if it was a blue based pigment, it'd shade/highlight in off tones similar to porcelain
That looks stunning! Although, one thing that gets me is the base looks quite muddy and he has probably been walking/trekking for a while to get to his postition. Yet he the bottom of his feet are completely free of mud. I dont know, I guess its a matter of taste, I just thought that I would put it out there.
wait, i just realised what's bugging me, the red sniper rifles!
if these scouts are snipers, they wouldn't want to be seen, but red sniper rifles would definately stand out
of course, not really that major
Fair point, I guess if we went down that line of thinking a big grey tank might stand out like a sore thumb in an open field Lets just say the weapons reflect light and in camera it looks red
@M.K - The final shots are done in my light box set up where as the WIP shots are from my painting pallet with over head lighting, that's probably why there is such a difference. Also awesome on the painting starting for my GMS
Proto - Only one section because this scout is a nooby
@Graven - One does not simply walk in and get lots of squiggles!
How on earth do you preserve your sanity? Don't you long to paint something different? Not that what you do isn't amazing, naturally. I was looking at various tau bits I have lying around, and I found myself thinking, "Wow. I bet Mike would have a field day with Tau."
Also, lmk when stuff materialises.
@Graven - I try to not paint all day every day so my sanity is checked by watching tv or browsing forums, I do long to paint something other than grey however I feel that if I start, I may not come back to it and seeing as I'm almost half way through the army I really want to finish it first. And by jove you seem to know excatly when I get things, I had your gift package arrive this morning! thanks heaps I will use the legs with out a doubt!
Hey Knightley. I'm new to this blog, and decided to stop by. I'll be checking it out more frequently. Love all of your models, very crisp, neat, and clean.
@WM - Yes, and to be fair I had done those guys in 2004ish and these GK's were started in 2009ish and were supposed to be a much much lighter shade of grey, however I know what you mean, needs more color!
@Graven - Yeah, If I do a Tau army it will be a lot more vibrant. In fact the next army in general I do will be more filled with color (I'm thinking red's or yellows)
@Wolf Guard 252 - Welcome to the blog! and thank you for taking the time to comment. Do you have a favorite one in particular?
@M.K - Not yet, I was toying with the idea of having 1000 points of most armies, most of my pushes thus far have been 1500 so going down to 1000 point batches could have me a fair few armies done. I do like the allies rules, its what I've been waiting for since the old GK codex
@Graven - I think I might leave them unhighlighted, just so it doesnt look to out of place (yeah yeah I know, bright red guns and light grey armor...)
maybe bright orange but srsly, scout is looking great
Also, could you also try to get proto to udate his blog, I've tried, he said he would but hasn't, yet maybe he needs some 'gentle persuasion' from some who lives closer to him
@M.K - Proto has been on a secret mission, I'd give him time and space. I suspect everyone might be a little spoil by the fact I update my blog every day with a picture and expect that from all of us Kiwi's
@Proto - I got your back dude
@W G 252 - Thanks mate, last one with camo, the squad should look pretty good.
Well, he's been promising updates for the past month... And Solar wants to his progress
And he asked me to try and get him to update
And now his camera is broken...
I caught up with LDP and Proto yesterday, pretty cool guys and got my GMS marines from them both, quite happy with the marines! I'll post a pic once I get them based etc.
Oooh i want to see what my models look like taken with your camera ill post up a pic of yours tonight, it was a close call, left the model at protos house and had to get it back this morning hahaha
And inwant to see an invisible cloak! (is that possible? YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
@Graven - Oh, good point, I might see what I can do to for a piece to fit in there, although I can't think of a single thing to put in there right at this point.
@I M - Ah, that piece right there is a customer job, its two peices, one from a sponson from somewhere, and a targeting array from another piece.
Update: did the base colors on the missiles and the sheild
Night Fighting is massive part of 6th. A big searchlight/sensor array would make sense, especially like an anti-aircraft one, given that Whirlwinds can now Skyfire.

Almost another tank done to add to the collection, and it's gunna look as unique as the rest of the guys, love it! I should probably paint a tank for Saturday :|
Now I'm starting to think all technology hates me.
First, my IPod's home button doesn't work
2, the key board
and now my camera, when ever you hit the shutter button to take a photo, it goes straigth to the gallery...
Are you going to be rolling with this tank in our game in a couple weeks time? Proto and I have done some serious planning in making a decent combined force, and we're working full throttle to paint up new units that we're using. I thank you for giving me motivation to start work on the ultras again, painting up alot of stuff for this game and i'm really excited, never enjoyed myself more working on these ultras cant wait for the game, you'll see alot of new stuff there ready to beat you up with Protos assistance ;P
@LDP - Probbably, I've not played against anyone except Dark Eldar so all my army lists are tailored around fighting them, so if I can get it done (which I should) then I could totally field it (as Vindicator) Yeah the game should be pretty awesome, I wonder if I should do an Allies game with GK/SM and have each force battle each of your forces?
@Graven - Interesting, you got a picture of the rt missile launcher set?
@M.K - oh yes, I had a really good post written out about 7 months ago and technology decided it was to awesome for the rest of the world to see and lost it. I was a sad panda that day.
@Graven - my god, I remember those, I am interested mate, very interested. PM me what you might need and ill see what I can dredge up for you.
@Wolf Guard 252 - welcome back, I trust the absence wasn't to harsh for you?
@Gits - Thank you, I'm quite happy with how it came out, there are a few little parts I'd like to have changed, but hindsight is 20/20
@W G 252 - Cheers, the Whirlwind scratch build is what I'm most happy with!
@LDP - Yuss Bosh!
@Graven - Yeah I did a mock up with the Havoc launchers and it looked far to chaos'y so having something defining as imperial detracts a little from it (not much though )
@M.K - Thanks
@Miss Dee - Who needs when emoticons can do the work for you
@Tipios - Haha, you're right well, if I do an ork army perhaps I should leave it as stolen
@Tazzy - post some pictures, listen to comments and I'm sure you can get there
@I M - I see what you did there
Update: not much left to do in this push, a land speeder, stormraven and 10 Assault marines, figured I'd do the base of the stormraven next as its something quick I can knock out in a few nights.
Front
@Beasty - I know right, the mechanicus will be rolling over in their graves.
@Graven - WIP 1 is usually mock ups with blutac, WIP 2 is usually base colors and a wash, WIP 3 is typically first stage grey, WIP 4 is second stage grey, WIP 5 is grey highlights, WIP 6 is metals/reds and then its usually completed picture time
I guess I'll be an outlier, here, but I don't like the base. The bitz are all TOO random. It doesn't really tell a story, like the heroic defense of those wall sections, or somesuch. It is just, to my eye, a random scrapyard of discarded helmets and a dud Tau seeker missile. Painting is great, as always.
@Briancj - Thank you for being honest! I too feel that the base is more like a grave yard and in hindsight it would have been fantastic to get this feed back when I posted the first WIP of it (sans paint) I believe all I can do for now is try bring it back with some painting, but as I plan to get two stormtalons to flank the stormraven then I will look at doing a better narrative on the base. Again thank you very much for the honest comments.
@M.K - Very random
@Miss Dee -
@Tazzy - Hopefully the final product will be well painted!
Update: Weird colors added (weird as in not grey)
Front
@Lyquis - Thank you for posting, the central part is from the Ageis Defense line, seeing as I used the side parts for my Grey Knight Psyrifleman Dread this part was free so I hacked and slashed it to fit.
@Briancj - No worries, I hope every one will be looking at the stormraven and not the base
Once. In my first game ever (I was unlucky as unlike every other noob who faced of in a small 500pt battle against the GW employees who went easy on them I faced my friend and his Tau with the stores Sphees Mareenz)
Basically, they're only worth it if you use their special rule,as that is the only reason why they cost so much
Nice!
And not really, although (as I said) I've only used them once, and that was when I was a begginer (as I said, first game)
You could use them as BA death company, if you want to use BA allies, but otherwise, just use them as an inteceptor squad
I know, I'm just saying that if he wanted to, he could use C:BA instead of C:SM.
I mean, they both have pretty much the same units, with a few exceptions (SM have Thundercannons, ChapM's, Honour Guard (the proper kind), scout speeders, LoftehD + spec char. BA have BaalPred, DA, More Dreads, ChibiHawk, SangGuard, FCApoths, RecChaps, Lib'Naughts, Elite Chaps, Sec Chars)
Of course, he'd need C:BA
