You know knightley... that black visor *really* changes the look of the figure. Very ninja (especially with the naginata in the high-guard). I'm sure this was your plan all along... and you probably already commented on it here... but it went completely over my head until just now... Man I'm a dunce!

That figure just got cooler by a factor of 10.

@LDP - Cool, I'm sure it will look better in person

@Graven - Will PM soon!

@Proto - Noted, I should be able to help you out

@Doomhunter - provided its not the one waking the younger one up over snakes it should be good. postage and packaging might be a awkward thing to address though.

Woohoo Draigo! Looking good there mate.

Lacking in daemon hearts though.

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/21 05:19:31

Post by: inmygravenimage

Looking very nice, and good to see you're going helm, not head on him; looks so much better. And no, it would be #2 you could have, that's the one that doesn't sleep as opposed to #1 and his snakey confusion.

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/21 12:05:16

Post by: Casey's Law

Nice! Draigo looks a touch busy at this stage but I think it's because the colours aren't finished so he isn't quite matching the finished stuff. That or the image is too small on my phone.

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/21 12:21:44

Post by: whalemusic360

That, and the model is very busy.

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/21 12:26:58

Post by: Casey's Law

Very true, some special characters are painfully busy sculpts.

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/21 20:11:00

Post by: Knightley

@Swordwind - Fingers crossed Draigo will get all his daemon hearts in battle

@Graven - Yeah the bland helm makes him look slightly constipated, Now lets talk logistics about sending a child through the post. I believe Air holes would be a good start

@C L - I agree the whole model is OTT in terms of stuff they've put on him, lets see how it goes.

@WM - Agreed

Update; while not much to look at still, the first stage grey is done

Nice job, it feels more muted now (in a good way).

Looking good knightley, it;s always nice to see you paint models with alot of detail on them. All the details seems to stand out, nothing is lost

@graven - Aviod Armenian mafia, I used once, package didn't arrive in one piece, very messy, and they don't have insurance!!!

@casey's law - that's the spirit! Pm me if you need anything, I'll see what I can do. The BT conversion kit and DA vets are also your friend.

@knightley: see? See what you've done?!

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/22 00:17:59

Post by: Casey's Law

@Graven - Haha! Yeh i've got the BT and DA upgrade kits planked away. It's all for kitbashing 500points of DIY Marines which i also have boxed up and waiting.

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/22 21:14:01

Post by: Knightley

@Graven - Had to laugh at the Armenian Mafia, I had dealings with those guys about 10 years ago, they still contact me for protection money, I wouldn't use them again. And I'm fully aware of what I have started, something I am very happy about doing!

@Tipios - Well once I get to paint the smaller details I hope it will pop just right

@Imperial Monkey - I start with GW Tin bitz as the base, I then give it a Leviathan purple wash, I raise up the color with dwarf bronze and edge highlight with burnished gold. Hope that helps.

@C L - Perfect the league of extraordinary converters has another member to add to its team, welcome brother and may your marines be unique and awesome when you've completed them.

Update: the second coat of grey is done, In hindsight it probably didn't need it but better to be safe than sorry

Beautiful job. Tau parts, this time. Got a battle suit of some variety and a piranha, need a few bodies to fly and die. Then again, I've also got a Russ hull, turret and sponsons spare. Need sides for that though. How about you? Any plans for winged death?

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/05/25 21:42:56

Post by: Knightley

@Gits - Danke

@Tipios - Totally, have they released them yet? I can't see anything to support my claim.

@Graven - Was thinking of adding valkrye/vendetta parts, the round missile launchers and the wings could be useful, I would need to see how the thing goes together first though.

Since you asked i went back and looked really hard for something to complain about but i can't find anything at all. I imagine it's a hard model to paint, one i won't be tackling for a long time but you made it look easy. The dreads coming along nice as well!

@Vent - Thanks heaps!

Update: well I've reached 4000 posts! a shame I don't have something flashy to post to celebrate the milestone. I guess a second coat of grey will have to do eh?

@Tipios - I'm glad you like it, I wasn't sure if the dark bronze color would work, turns out it does

@Yellowbeard - Thank you!

@Gits - Thanks I would have liked to include more white into the model, but really struggled to find a place to put it.

@Swordwind - I knew this question would pop up. The only way to tell its the same model is to look at the shin guard (there is a GS shield on the plate) and the smoke launchers on the top, everything else was upgraded

@WM - Cheers, I do as well. That and I needed a psyrifleman dread for the GK part of my army.

@Graven - Able to jump 9ft tall space marines in a single bound, able to run faster than a demolisher shell from a Leman Russ. It's super dread. Nuff said

@Young_Logan - Thank you, after the next push I believe I will need to take separate pictures of the armies to get it all in.

@WM - Umm... look over there <---- to be honest I wasn't sure how to change it and seeing as no one brought it up before, I didn't bother to change it. Consider its powered shots by a small plasma shell via a magazine?

@LDP - Sticking to a goal I guess, I wanted to do an update every day, so I then need to get something to paint each night

@Swordwind - Or that.

@C L - Your comments make me happy!

You say that. Maybe he's a transformer; he had a bike as his fb pic for a bit. Like that hot chick deception in the extremely rubbish transformers movie. Or maybe a cylon. Yeah. Hey Lucy Lawless was one, and she's from parts antipodes. Yup. Clearly a cylon. Wom-Wom. Wom-Wom.

Also, I realise what my niggle is about this. Plasma guns have got bolter clips still. A fix, which would require no remodelling, would be in the painting - big glowy plasma osl to make it looking like a power cell instead. Just a wee thought.

Okay last thing, do you guys all post on your blogs at the same sort of time or something? If so that's pretty awesome.

@M.K - Cheers, this guy should look pretty good as well.

@Proto - Haha, you're far to kind. As I said if you wanted another time to go through more painting I'm more than happy to help out.

@Graven - Brilliant, the tangent was fantastic. I wish I was a transformer I'd make some serious money from it! and good idea about the plasma OSL bit. Let me think on it.

@C L - Brilliant I was aware of the top three looking the same, not the bottom ones, nice find.

I usually post around 11am during the weekdays and at random times on the weekends.

That looks stunning! Although, one thing that gets me is the base looks quite muddy and he has probably been walking/trekking for a while to get to his postition. Yet he the bottom of his feet are completely free of mud. I dont know, I guess its a matter of taste, I just thought that I would put it out there.

Still looks awesome though, keep it up

@M.K - Cheers, and yes I agree with Proto, the clean boot does stick out a bit, I should change that.

@Gits - Thank you, I took inspiration from my old army camo that I had a picture of.

@Graven - Chur!

@Proto - Agreed, it's a small item that doesn't quite add up.

There's certainly a pattern in his painting! I was thinking big and bold - or at least roger roger ceramic tones.

@M.K - Will check it out asap!

@WM - Yes, and to be fair I had done those guys in 2004ish and these GK's were started in 2009ish and were supposed to be a much much lighter shade of grey, however I know what you mean, needs more color!

@Graven - Yeah, If I do a Tau army it will be a lot more vibrant. In fact the next army in general I do will be more filled with color (I'm thinking red's or yellows)

@Wolf Guard 252 - Welcome to the blog! and thank you for taking the time to comment. Do you have a favorite one in particular?

Update: second stage grey done

Nice!

With your next army I hope you go for a bright red, not the dark red you use on your guns

EDIT: By the way, I'm just joking, use what ever red you like

Reds or yellows? Why not reds and yellows? Somewhere around here I saw some Mc donalds inspired orks........

I kid, and looking fantastic as per usual

@Proto - Haha and I could include a grimace walker of some kind

@W G - That guy is pretty good, lots of little details added in all over him.

Have you even decided wha your next army will be?

Aso, I'm guessing your happy about the new ally rules, as you can have your scouts and bikes/jetbikes as well as the stock standard GK units?

Oh, almost forgot scout's looking nice

Kewl. Really interesting to see how you build up the camo.

Post by: Knightley

@M.K - Not yet, I was toying with the idea of having 1000 points of most armies, most of my pushes thus far have been 1500 so going down to 1000 point batches could have me a fair few armies done. I do like the allies rules, its what I've been waiting for since the old GK codex

@Graven - I think I might leave them unhighlighted, just so it doesnt look to out of place (yeah yeah I know, bright red guns and light grey armor...)

Update: reds/metals done

Post by: Knightley

@M.K - Agreed, but I shouldn't be commenting on that to much, after all. My scouts have bright red guns

@Gits - A muted camo does look to be a good offset to a bight armor color so a very valued comment thank you.

@Tipios - I wonder what a 1000 point army of scouts in camo cloaks would look like

@YB - Thanks, I feel that the level I can paint for faces is just right for the time spent on them.

Proto and I have done some serious planning in making a decent combined force, and we're working full throttle to paint up new units that we're using. I thank you for giving me motivation to start work on the ultras again, painting up alot of stuff for this game and i'm really excited, never enjoyed myself more working on these ultras

@LDP - Probbably, I've not played against anyone except Dark Eldar so all my army lists are tailored around fighting them, so if I can get it done (which I should) then I could totally field it (as Vindicator) Yeah the game should be pretty awesome, I wonder if I should do an Allies game with GK/SM and have each force battle each of your forces?

@Graven - Interesting, you got a picture of the rt missile launcher set?

@Gits - Thank you, I'm quite happy with how it came out, there are a few little parts I'd like to have changed, but hindsight is 20/20

@W G 252 - Cheers, the Whirlwind scratch build is what I'm most happy with!

@LDP - Yuss Bosh!

@Graven - Yeah I did a mock up with the Havoc launchers and it looked far to chaos'y so having something defining as imperial detracts a little from it (not much though )

@M.K - Thanks

@Miss Dee - Who needs when emoticons can do the work for you

@Tipios - Haha, you're right well, if I do an ork army perhaps I should leave it as stolen

@Tazzy - post some pictures, listen to comments and I'm sure you can get there

@I M - I see what you did there

Update: not much left to do in this push, a land speeder, stormraven and 10 Assault marines, figured I'd do the base of the stormraven next as its something quick I can knock out in a few nights.

That aside, awesome paintjobs as always, and wicked base, keep it up

@Beasty - I know right, the mechanicus will be rolling over in their graves.

@Graven - WIP 1 is usually mock ups with blutac, WIP 2 is usually base colors and a wash, WIP 3 is typically first stage grey, WIP 4 is second stage grey, WIP 5 is grey highlights, WIP 6 is metals/reds and then its usually completed picture time

@Miss Dee - close, but not quite close enough

Update: rocks and ground done

I guess I'll be an outlier, here, but I don't like the base. The bitz are all TOO random. It doesn't really tell a story, like the heroic defense of those wall sections, or somesuch. It is just, to my eye, a random scrapyard of discarded helmets and a dud Tau seeker missile. Painting is great, as always.

the base is well painted but I agree with the others, its a bit random....

@Briancj - Thank you for being honest! I too feel that the base is more like a grave yard and in hindsight it would have been fantastic to get this feed back when I posted the first WIP of it (sans paint) I believe all I can do for now is try bring it back with some painting, but as I plan to get two stormtalons to flank the stormraven then I will look at doing a better narrative on the base. Again thank you very much for the honest comments.

@M.K - Very random

@Miss Dee -

@Tazzy - Hopefully the final product will be well painted!

Update: Weird colors added (weird as in not grey)

Fantastic work, it's very inspiring. What is the whirlwind's turret made from? I recognize the Havoc launchers, but not the central bit.

@Lyquis - Thank you for posting, the central part is from the Ageis Defense line, seeing as I used the side parts for my Grey Knight Psyrifleman Dread this part was free so I hacked and slashed it to fit.

@Briancj - No worries, I hope every one will be looking at the stormraven and not the base

@AUC - Hahah, I'm still not 100% on it but for a base I really can't complain.

@Miaou - Brilliant, that comic had me laughing for a while 5 the emperor!

Update: Kind of forgot to take WIP 2 pictures for this guy as I had the whole night to paint basically so apologies about that

@M.K - thats the theme I wanted for this close combat squad, dual everything!

@LDP - I plan on using them as normal assault marines, bit of a let down I know but yeah needed to replicate the two close combat weapons.

@Graven - I could use them like Vanguard elites, has anyone had any experience with fielding them?

@Miss Dee - Ummm, thanks?

Once. In my first game ever (I was unlucky as unlike every other noob who faced of in a small 500pt battle against the GW employees who went easy on them I faced my friend and his Tau with the stores Sphees Mareenz)
Basically, they're only worth it if you use their special rule,as that is the only reason why they cost so much

Nice!
And not really, although (as I said) I've only used them once, and that was when I was a begginer (as I said, first game)
You could use them as BA death company, if you want to use BA allies, but otherwise, just use them as an inteceptor squad

He cant, because his army is allied GK and SM.

Post by: Matt.Kingsley

I know, I'm just saying that if he wanted to, he could use C:BA instead of C:SM.
I mean, they both have pretty much the same units, with a few exceptions (SM have Thundercannons, ChapM's, Honour Guard (the proper kind), scout speeders, LoftehD + spec char. BA have BaalPred, DA, More Dreads, ChibiHawk, SangGuard, FCApoths, RecChaps, Lib'Naughts, Elite Chaps, Sec Chars)
Of course, he'd need C:BA

Post by: prototype_X

Oh wow, silly me, how could I have missed that :Facepalm:

Knightley, if you were to run them as DC, I'll have my C:BA with me at the game.

@M.K - Fair point, having a marine force which could be used in any format (BA/DA/SW/GK etc) could prove beneficial!

@Proto - I might just run as SM for the moment, I've not played as BA's yet so i suspect that would go pretty badly

Update: Highlights done
