Whelp...I finished the first ORC trooper and tried to take some silly pics against the terrain I got with the project Icestorm box not really dialed in there, but given the 6 hr time limit on this dude, I'm quite pleased with the balance of time vs end result. With more practice I'll have it down even better I think. It seems not much interest in this blog anymore since I'm gone so much but if you feel like leaving any thought opinions comments, it's nice to hear. Thanks guys BB

I'd just prefer if you added a hot color somewhere in your scheme. Just like I said on the previous one.
The armour plates are cold grey, with blue details, even the base is painted with cold tones. It looks good, but for me a little touch of pink, or orange would make wonders.
Now, if you like it the way it is, keep it so. It already looks good like it is.
Hey Dr H thanks bud! Glad you like it, yeah I started actually black lining and painting in more pronounced shadows. It's different than I'm used to doing but I'm trying to figure out what they do on the professional infinity models. They look SO good:/
Minus, hey pal. I actually commented about that in a previous post. I did change the lights on the previous fusilier to a warm pink. Sadly, it wasn't effective as I was covering up previous subtle effects...also, with the size of the model the tertiary pink made the model look too busy as there are lights all over the mini. It made the color choices I think too spread out. I think the Aqua is sufficiently warm and keeps the scheme tight. While I agree with your overall advice, it was poorly executed on my part:( hope you don't mind but I'm glad you like the base, and in fact there is pink on the base too just soft tones here's a few more pics of the finished mini...messing around with post production in my phone...
Thanks alot guys Glad you think so...im enjoying painting these guys alot. Im learning alot of new things i think from painting miniatures that arent citadel miniatures! Its kinda crazy really:p Ive started and almost completed the Croc-man from my starter kit, making my painted model count (once this fellow is done) to 3!! Or 5 if you count the other two im not pleased with...Anywho...The front is almost finished save for the pants that need a little bit more work. The back is a few steps behind and hasnt been edge highlighted yet...a bit more difficult to photo that side because of the lighting, it looks a little more plain. Again ive painted exaggerated shadows of pure black. The leathers, Feet and Gun casing, as well as the face and other sall details arent finished. Also, for some reason, i felt like this guy had some kind of cyber hacker power...so the glowing eyes...i have no idea...lol....could fall into the redo category and just paint regular eyes...what do you guys think? Heres some pics...((we are at about 4hrs of paint time here))

Hiya Dakka! I finished the 3rd dude of the starter set for Pan O. The Croc Man. Also added a chipping effect to the bases and switched out the first fusiliers base to match the current look. Im very pleased so far with the outcome of the three...Theres still tiny details here and there or plaes i want to smooth over but as for now...in person, im happy to have them on the battle field the way they look. Heres some better pics i think, of the pretty much completed three of six of the pan O starter. A Fusilier, an Orc Trooper and a Croc Man ((you can click to zoom))...

Welll...goodness, i guess ill keep plugging along and stuff...for whoevers lurking... i fixed the 2nd fusilier that had been exensively experimented on previously. I took the face paint off and repainted the lights to a teal, instead of the offending pink. Also, pulled his older base off and gave him a matching base.
Minus, if you stop by, check out the fella on the end, with the purple...ive settled on a yellow green to warm up the miniature...i used it on the orc troopers gun as well...Anyways, despite his previous state, im pretty pleased with the clean up. And with the group i think he fits right in...

Non GW models tend to get less comments. That's kinda natural, you don't have to worry much about it.
Anyway that's what I've noticed on my own topics here and on french boards.
I keep an eye on your topic, as well as on some other guys in here. But I don't always comment, especially when I'm on the tablet because it takes forever to write anything. The tablet corrects every single english word I write to change it to a french one... But I'm still there.

Those Infinity models loook damn good. I might be wrong, but it seems like you changed the bases a little bit, didn't you ?
It looks like you addes some pinkish reflections into the ice. It makes the model pop out more, I like it. I also like the guy with the purple pants. It warms up you scheme a little bit. For me it turns it from "good" to "almost perfect". But I'm partial as soon as purple is involved...
Hey fellas! Awesome, good to hear from you guys! Glad I was wrong...I know the infinity models don't gather as much interest but they are sure interesting to paint!
As per the bases...minus/cam/Dr H, it a different base than the first tester base on the first fusilier. It's basically a bunch of super watery glazes of pink teal and periwinkle on top of each other which kind of creates a pastel stone/marble look. Then I add chips and scratches and weathering to ground it into something more identifiable.
Either way I'm glad you guys like the models.
The next ones to paint up are gonna be super cool!

They look better too. Well, maybe not that crocman. It was the second ugliest mini in the range. The old Securitat was the ugliest.
Good work on the fusiliers. Your colors are a bit more muted than the studio ones which is a nice take on them ...

I always follow your work with great interest, I'm a big fan of your painting style. I'm very excited that you've started painting Infinity minis now. I love the amount of detail that the models have and they are much better proportioned than GW's minis, hands down. It's an amazing coincidence that you've started working on Infinity at the same time as most of the guys in my local hobby club. We have more people painting and playing Infinity than any other miniature game right now, including 40K and WHFB. I just picked up a pile of Infinity minis including Operation: Icestorm. I also grabbed a few extra Pan-O figures to expand my starter forces due to your inspiring work. I love the way that you've oainted the metal areas of their armor in a non-metallic gray instead of silver. It looks much more interesting and it reminds me of the old Confrontation studio paint schemes. I can't wait to see your next minis, each one looks a little more refined than the last. Please don't mistake a lack of replies for disinterest in your work. I always try to think of something better to post than "good job, keep up the good work" and I'm sure that I'm not the only one. Please keep on updating your thread and keep in mind that you have more than a few admirers here that appreciate you sharing your work with us even if we don't say it as often as we should.

Im very happy to know that at least the stuff is being seen I enjoy chatting about techniques and things like that so thats the whole reason i post here So, the next fellow, the commando, is on deck. I decided to paint him black. All black...except for a couple spots and accents. I didnt really how tough that would be :/ I decided to paint his shadows first. Highlights are his torso shoulders and bottom of his helmet that can be considered finished. Then gun knees down, forearms down are not finished...only just begun. So this is a pretty wip picture...a teaser if you will...hes so dark and small, so im having troublke photoing him accurately...
aanyways enough talk...lets see if you see where im going with this one...
Phew...ok...so a few things I'm learning...generally eavy metal techniques don't work as well on infinity models...or rather, in painting black, on a model this small, there HAS to be an easier way to do this..or maybe not...maybe I just need practice lol!! Either way, as more things move to finished, you can see the model starting to come together. As we say in the jazz world, there are some good moments lol. No part of the model is finished, rather some are close though. The random spots to see below on the mini that may look out of place are more guidelines to where I want to highlight. I can't help but think how much EASIER doing this on a SM would be, and thinking if I do this again I need to rethink my approach...still though, there are some good moments lol...

This angles and back (currently not shown) are the least finished...however at this angle you can see I've painted jet black shadow to enhance the effect...

I agree with you minus. If you refer to the sculpt,..it's hard to decipher what Hes doing. The sculpt is not as good. But also having opted to paint him all black was a challenge I didn't expect. The lack of sharp edges finds me having to subtly shade and highlight ridiculously small areas...this model is a pain, but my names mud if I can't make it work. To be fair, it looks much better in RL, this model is tough to photo, for pose and color choices.
There is an easier way to paint black. Now, I generally just paint to a tabletop standard, but what I do is when I'm painting larger areas black, I actually use a really dark grey. Hit it up with a black wash and you're good to go. It's actually really easy to do and looks fairly decent, too.
Hey Barzam! Thanks for the tip! Because the model is count is so low im choosing to put alot of time into each model, and hopefully discover some things but no doubt, the trusted black wash is a great method and ive certainly used it to great effect in the past!
Giraffe! Hi there Thanks man...i dont usually have trouble with black, but then again ive never painted black nmm carapace armor or this small!! Once his lower half is finished and , as you say, the base put, i agree that i think it will look pretty cool. It was a stretch but ive confidence

I can't really add much in the way of help, I'm more of a dry-brush layers of grey over black, for my black things. Do it gentle enough, and I can be effective.
Ok this dude is done...im only mildly happy with him, mainly because i just shoulda practiced this one time before actually doing it..i would have done a bit differently, this method found me edge highlighting impossible fine lines and its not worth the result......BUT, sill en masse,..it looks good , there are parts of this mini i really like...his face and helmet for one i think are good...the gun too...his chest...theres simply not much more i can do here besides figit and nit pick and this dude has taken way longer than i liked....again...next time will be different....i do like the back against the other models...

heres updated pics! Speaks for itself which parts have been worked on The (his) right part of the chest cover needs a little tlc(pic 2)...just a touch up to define the edge shade...and the larger weapon needs a few tiny corrections that i noticed after uploading pics. the right side of the gun casing that is turqouise is also a few stages behind the left side(pic 1). But, frankly, im really pleased so far...lets hope i continue moving forward here...

Black is a tricky thing to make look right on a miniature. I know on the few things I've attempted black on, I've either had to try several times, get lucky, make do with my dry-brushing, or just accept that it's dark grey and not black anyway...
Good work on the robo-thing. The purple is particularly good.
Lol..i guess infinity is not as popular as the gw universe...zambro its a TAG. A giant robot essentially...heavy hitter on my squad Dr H, in reference to black, on this fellow, i have washed varying degrees of a dark dark grey, almost black...then reinforced shades instead of focus on highlighting. I think thats the way to go about it on the smaller guys too, which i will try next...
And hes still not finished but coming along nicely i think..only one angle pictured here becauuse i have to paint an angle at a time and the others have had no work done to them, so nothing new to show there...heres more pics...

PS : I'm a bit late, but regarding the previous model, yep I was talking about the pose and the general look of the mini. It looks good, but the first model you showed have more personnality, and I prefer them.
i laugh because i absolutely adore the orange(its really a bright reddish orange..not red). I was giggling while painting it, just admiring how nutty it was to put in there. But really yeah its inspired pretty heavily by japanese manga land mate designs and color schemes...
As per the base...its exactly as the others...because its just random washes of teal periwinkle and pink...each one might lend more to one of the three colors than the next base but yeah barely...
Oh sh*t, I commented on the last WIP photo, I hadn't seen the finished version.
So yeah, now the base is similar to his buddies bases. And it's perfect. I've rarely seen a base so simple, and so nice at the same time.
The orange (almost red ) is less disturbing on the last set of photos too. I would still skip that color, but as you say it can be seen as a reference to late 80's animations... Oh man I'm 7 years old again now and making robots noises with my mouth...
Haha no worries Minus...yeah i agree, i like the base too...i kinda just stumbled across it by accident. At first it was just the various washes, which looked ok, but adding the chipping and scratches and weathering really, excuse the pun, grounded it into an actual floor type material instead of cotton candy. lol.

Ill say this, painting these models has given me a chance to work on things i dont normally with GW figures...also their a bit smaller so things i thought worked, became not so good, so ive had to alter what i do and paint with much thinner paint...truth be told...im basically washing everything and blending...from light to dark...its a bit of a departure from the eavy metal way, which is how i (i think us both) have loved learned and been inspired to paint. I do the Primarchs way different than anything I do normally and the way you do these guys is a method I've dabbled with but only on smaller parts of models such as robes and cloaks, it lends itself well for that sort of thing! keep it up man I always really love seeing your progress!

Heya guys! I'm in la enjoying some sunshine and painting. Here's work on the 3rd fusiler. Still very earlywip. Before blavk lining and highlighting...and shading. I started with an upper midtone for each piece...except the hair. Also the purple is now prominently part of my scheme. Whatch think??

Its never really occured to me before to use a midtone as a base - well, I dont think colour, followed by wash counts as starting at midtone . I've always done darkest to lightest. I might have to give starting at a midtone a go on my next WoC character.
Alright! Yup i made more progress here...pushed up highlights and darkened areas. As you can see I kinda just work randomly over the mini..some areas further along than others. Clearly the back is far behind, and splotchy areas will be cleaned up. I kinda mark points of light this way. I've begun black lines...clean up needed...love the hair....:p

I like the colors. Green Hair is more a nomad thing though. And this reminds me I need to get to painting my Pan-O... I think I have 30 at this point...

Hey all! Thanks so much for the positive feedback! I am definitely happy with the way he turned out and glad that you guys feel the same way. As mentioned above I still feel there are certain trouble spots with the miniature based on my application of certain things, but I feel that after having done it one time I've gotten much stronger grasp with the technique. I still have quite a few more infinity models to do and have just bought a pretty solid air compressor the next thing I need to do is buy an airbrush and I'm pretty stuck on which airbrush to buy. obviously I want to use pretty high detail with it and I'm assuming that you can do that with an airbrush. I'd love some recommendations if anybody's got them. I don't need to get the best quality but I can afford $200-$400 for the airbrush. let me know!

Can't really help you with the airbrush hunt as I've only just bought a cheap one myself, and used it for the first time today. I've just posted up my thoughts on this in my "money making" blog if you want to check that out.
OK this marks an amazing moment in the noncareer of Bebop. Ive started scratch-building terrain, and boy, new respect yo. This ish is HARD. Simply cutting out exactly accurate pieces from plasticard with an exacto knife is kicking my butt and im using a ruler:/ I could use a lot of advice here guys, and i know most of you have considerably more expertise in this regard. Im probably doing things wrong backwards more difficult etc etc. Anyways, im starting with a simple design. Four sides and a roof lol. Im buiulding a Ramen Hut!! Kinda like from blade runner...ill show a pic for reference...so ive got alot of work and detail and weathering still to do but im going toi try and hide the imperfections where i can....and with the roof and curtain awning it'll hide even more lol. thoughts please??
this is looking good bebop! will this be a scenic backgrund for taking pics? or a display board? i think it looks very good, i dunno what tools you have used here, if the ruler you have has a anti slip bottom? that helps... and it should be metal, you don´t want to ruin your ruler with the knife...belive me, it happens and the number one rule with PC is: always cut one time not all the way through the material... cut and then snapp off... that´s the ticket...afterwards sanding is always needed...

Thank you both for the great tips, I have been scoring the plastic card breaking it off and then working well except when im using the extremely thick plastic card, 080? I will try scoring both sides on that one. I've made More progress and I covered up some more details that I wasn't happy with, as well as adding a little bit more battle damage.... Heya Dakka! Long time no see!! Its been a really long time since i posted, sadly i havent been doing any painting at all in a very long time. As one might expect, im pretty timidly picking up the rrushes again to see what happens...I decided to finish off my Pan Oceania unpainted Sniper. My paints are junk, gosh, abaddon black is the worst black ever when its new let alone a year old...lol...im gonna post a few wips as the night progresses maybe, seeing how far i get...the arm is closer to being finished than the legs its all very early stages...nmm...why not start with something challenging when you have zero painting chops right?? Haha...forgive the shaky hands, hopefullly ill be able to make something out of this one...

Its my first model back, and its always good to rediscover how much i love painting minis! My techniques are a little loose, but hopefully i can work it out heres just a couple more pics before i go to bed, some progress... Most every aspect is not close to complete...more highlights, on evrything...shades too...in this models case, i started with mid tones and am working down to shades and up to highlights at the same time...anyways...cheers...

so heres some updated pics...moving on to the chest areas, and more of the cloak...the mushy secxtion of beige by his bicep is a flap from the jacket that hasyt been painted yet, just a splash coat to mark it...areas need clean up as well and i have yet to get to his left side but im closing in. Also the straps of his backpack are as yet unpainted but will end up a dark leather, in the spectrum of the leather duster. added some green glazes to the duster as well to make it more weather worn. Also i need to go buy a real black so i can solidify some blacklining....ive literally been using a black wash as my only black at all...lame...anyways, i like this guy, challenging buy super fun ahh to be painting again. heres some progress from cheap i phone camera..

Damn, you really bring a whole new level of greatness to the Infinity figures. I've struggled to get into Infinity, but your style is what wins me over... Now where did I put my Operation Icestorm set?

Ive purchased a black!! abaddon black, or as i call it a bad black. its not a good paint, the pigments dont hold when it gets watery so black lining its a bit clumsy...i think i might switch companies in regards to black. But it has served its purpose and is helping me make sense of the chaos and the clutter and things are really starting to look like a miniature! I still have yet to solidify the leather duster that is poking out through the sides of his torso, will get to that soon. This model is kicking my a$$ in every way, my neck is killing me from the strain of such tiny and constant corrections. Some corrections and clean up are just so small that i end up making a bigger istake here trying to fix a smaller mistake over there...anywho...there IS progress!! what say yall??

San, when you are refering to black armor do you mean the snper im working on now? Its suppossed to be gun metal nmm...uh oh i might have to go back to the dtrawing board big time if it doesnt come across that strong:/
i will admit, im having trouble with this dude. certain things are niggling at me, but mostly they are when viewing the model extremely up close. also his other arm is not making much progress...its a trickier position to me and im starting to feel like im shooting in the dark, so ive made very little progress on that other arm......i have made small but i think noticeable changes and picked out more details...i kicked up the glow a little bit from the lights, i still have touch ups every where, notably on feet, but shadows are getting stronger, and ive made more progress on the duster...begun glazing the armor with a blue green glaze, purple nearest the purple pants....all in all im still happy despite the minor niggles. Frankly, the approach im using to paint this guy is unrealistic. I need to find a more straight forward and clean approach. Heres some pics...thanks for browsing!
love the glow effects....why they´re on a sniper is beyond me but they look marvellous...and as i just said on red´s thread... seeing you paint the way smaller infinity minis that good is quite a bummer when i try to slap paint on the bulky GW plastics....

I think he's looking really good. Love the glow (got to learn how to do that) and the purple lining to the clothes. Have heart man...I think it looks better than you think!

Here's the finished model. I'm mostly pleased and severely annoyed at the same time. Some things I wanna do are just unrealistic at this scale and I need to rethink how I'm going about this. On a gw its different, but these infinity guys are just significantly smaller where it counts. Despite this...I love the mini in person, hate it under the camera. Not much I can do about it. You smashed it, BB! The nmm is enviable, the glows are subtle and the jacket is awesome. It's good to have you back!
in the bottom left picture, at the right knee where there is purple cloth showing through the armour joins, the highlight doesn't look quite as smooth as the rest of the model.

Wellllllll.....so I guess I wanted to enter Gits' Mantis Warrior comp. Basically, I just was over come with the urge to pant a single solitary space marine. Using what I learned painting infinity figures, could I apply the same techniques to the space marine. I don't know if this even counts and I think I might not be able to enter since I started painting right way. Gits if you see this, let me know I gonna brush up on the rule set anyways and give it a try. Also, I don't know much of the fluff or mantis warriors and rule set so if there's something insanely wrong with my recreation...just ignore it lol
Only the front is some what done...the right lig is essentially finished save some edge highlights here and there...ill post a pic of the back as soon as I finish a couple key spots....face needs layers and cleanup...it's getting there here's a nod to ckig too for showing how he gets that green...I've used a similar method here...

Ive made more prgress today. finished mostly the main visible parts of the armor. The lower half of the backpack still needs to be done. The freehand chapter symbol i might touch up just a tiny bit more but too much fiddling could cause some problems with such a fragle yellow background. Besides i like it how it is though not sure to weather it or not...i could chip the paint of it or leave. The way it is is kinda early 90's to me and i love that...moving on...the metals on his back are untouched as is the lower half of the backpack. the top will continue to get some attentiom as well. also the fiddly bit around his head and of course his face itself require quite a bit of attention. Im saving the head for the end because right now, i could make it worse. doing nothing is better than the alternative. ill get to it. Im aware of the blackline issue on the shoulder pad tha tis yellow, the backside of it, ill have to fix it but it will be time consuming....Also ive added a number of brown glazez to shadows, some red glazes here and there, and more yellow glaze. heres a slew of wip pics. Hes really fun to paint. What do you guys think? ((the pics are large clicking will give better resolution than embed))

Heres more update. In retrospect, i should have painted the entire back pack like the rest of the armor. I still have to balance out the highlights there is too much white on the lower half. Im not sold on them in juxtaposition, the backpack and the body. Also, i need to stop adding battle damage, im on the verge of too much and already it has affected some areas id have prefered to keep clean. I can fix it. There are several small spots that need doing but im losing in on an ending. The face got work, though still needs more, but is cleaning up..the backpack and back in general recieved alot of attention today, some final balancing and touchups will be applied...the main part left to do is the flat part of the power fist. With the details. Looking forward to this. it will be a challenge. Also, i have no idea what the heck to do with the base so im open to ideas though definitely thinking jungle here....Any thoughts on that? Here are a bunch of WiP pics including a very close up pic of the back. its hard to tell but the model is actually leaning forward dramatically, as if facing a on coming challenge, so its tricky photoing him correct...
Beautiful! and the good thing is seeing such great work makes me want to actually spend time on a model to see what I'm capable of! your progression is meteoric and always a pleasure to see!
@ Damo: You're a totally prolific painter man, I could not paint the amount at the high level that you do it! I spend hours and hours on one model. This guy has probably taken about 16 hours of painting. Maybe more?? Anyways, I really do appreciate such kind support! I'm just as enthralled with your work! As for getting better, I always go for what I don't think I can pull off! It's a failure sometimes but I always learn something!

Cheers all...I have finished the first part of entry into Gits' competition. Now that it's been ok'd, It's time to think about a larger scope than just the mini. The Pose was made to say, "Bring it on!!" As if he's locked eyes on his challenger from across the way. He's hunched over and sort of grounding in. With that said, clearly this fellow needs a challenger! I have the perfect mini for it, but I can't use him because I built him last year, so I need to come up with a worthy challenger in a pose that screams "IM COMING FOR YOU!!!" The setting will be jungle and as I get to that portion I'll elaborate more on my ideas. I'm going to break this project down into 4 parts. Part 1, which is done, is to paint the Mantis Warrior, Part two will be build and paint his challenger, part 3 will be to build the diorama base, part4 will be to paint it. So, part 1....
Is done. I liked mostly everything, the power first from one angle I love but other less so, but I've learned why it was challenging and can make progress next Time. His face is not my favorite either, (I've painted better I think) as I was a victim of moving too fast and not realizing certain details were sculpted in, Rookie mistake...but I think I masked it fine. I'm tempted to rip the head off and do another....id love feedback on that move before I do it. Also the base is placeholder until I settle on what he'll actually be standing on. Just to confuse or hopefully help, his opponant does not have to be a marine, or old, could be a young beasty from just about anywhere, he is grizzled enough to count for the "Old" bit.
I think his head is perfect, but if you have alternatives you have time. I would concentrate on the rest first though and if you have time at the end maybe look at his head.
If I can offer an alternative to the challenge diorama, I got more of a badass who snuck up behind some unsuspecting novice. Maybe a hard scoped scout or similar.

hey fellas, well, ive had couple hiatus' because some touring has cut in to my painting lol....so i had to put the mantis thing on the back burner....i made some progress but ultimately didnt want to paint anything more regarding that. I did some practicing and an old catachan model which i wont show because it just isnt anything interesting....for all my successes there are just as many failiures! So for the time being ive shifted my gaze back to the smaller scale INFINITY models. Ill start on the Nomads side of the Firestorm box. Havent painted red in a while and interested in how these new approachs will play into it. Another model that is significantly leaning forward so its a bit of pain in my ass to photo well. Im seriously considering upgrading to a camera because at this point the iphone is only hurting my presentations. Anyways, the first model is coming to a close. Painted pretty much the way they are painted on the box. Tried to copy it a bit which i normally dont do, but, i actually like the red. Im off to LA tomorrow so i may not finish him until next thurday. Also i should say, im currently switching over many of my paints from GW to the dropper bottles MSP reaper paints and Vallejo. They are signifccantly better product i believe and especially the black which ive been complaining about is really a fantastic color. full of pigment and it doesnt spread too much when extremely thinned. Very good and im pleased about it. Anyways heres some pics....really rather bummed about the pic presentation, theres alot missing thats actually there...really frustrating..
(Also, I'm aware of the super gnarly mold line under his nose...)
Thanks Gits! They sure are tiny. A face on an infinity figure is about the size of a imperial guardsmans hand or a tudge bigger but not much. But the sculpts are so good and sharp on most spots that they are fun to play and ask for some different approaches if one wants all that detail visible. Still figuring it out myself.
Wanted to mention on the above model, that I'm trying a new approach to painting faces and it's not a great success.aguy named Bailey on cmon has a fascinating tut on face. Painting. On his blog but I think it works better for 54mm models...either way, I'll hopefully plug away on this fellow and dial it in more.

I absolutely hate the GW pots, I've only got a few paints from them, mainly technicals and their washes. Dropper bottles are so much better imo. Vallejo is great. They have a large enough range to cover most things.
Thanks guys! Yes I like the red but because there isn't anything really impressive to paint in the model all the hard work goes into a smooth and super bright red. Behind the scenes work i say! I'll finish him when I get back to NYC.
So I've been in LA for a week and I'm just practicing on models for the hell of it. Aimless painting to take stock on the affects on certain technical approaches. In the below photos, of the Bad moon Ork, the arm was painted in a darker midtone, shaded, then am currently building up highlights with glazing. The face, was glazed first, then highlighted, then shaded, then re highlighted and glazed. I basically kept going down, then back up, then further down....etc etc. Mostly Blue and Turqouise, but also some red and yellow. I'm gonna see what more glazes gets me, Not much to see but for the hell fit im posting some pics of stuff I sometimes practice. Also the gratuitous NMM gold is also just practice, though I did go with the bad moon theme of being money grubbing. LOL. Anyways nothing to see here but these dumb wips,.,,
Thanks dudes....still so much to do on the skin. Especially the face I think I can put some more color into it and push the shadows and highlights more extreme. It's a litttle washed out in the face because of the fact that I highlighted firSt so I gotta make up for that by pushing more extreme shades...also the arm is not highlighted really yet.
If I may be so bold (considering I am pathetic) adding more red around the lips and ear lobs and eye sockets, or at least making them "blushed" pink. Nerdy has mastered this, but given your depth of colour and skill would be great to see your take on it.
Oh and I have toyed with the fleshy parts of the body going this way too. For instance the underarms and throat.

Cam, thanks for the tips man! I've gone ahead and pushed the lips and ear tips a "little" more towards a solid pink, as per your suggestion, but I what I did more so, was push the blue and green further up, especially around the nose and eyes and side of the cranium, so the pink is more pronounced, it's subtle but I think is close to the affect I'm going for, but I still will probably push the pink up a bit too but staying cool. I'd prefer to keep them on the cool side of Turqouise and less warm tones higher up. Damo's are gorgeous no doubt, but I wanna try and paint em a little different, so I'm going to be on the cooler side of it color wise. So I did some work stippling on the leathers, some of them anyways, the front left strap is mostly finished the back may want a couple more glazes to smooth the stippling, but I want the leathers beat up for sure...there's still quite a bit to do,the yellows are coming along... I've done little work on the arm so that'll come soon in one whole sessions focus....here's just a couple more pics of progress...
Heya Everyone! Back in New York for just a second before I head to Brazil for a 10 day tour...Rio, São Paulo....no Zika lets hope...<_<....but I got around to finishing the first Aguacill For my Nomads, really just the first mini done and sort of a test,, but, I'm really very pleased with this fellow. He's one of the crispest minis (gotta click the embed if you wanna see its true resolution, sorry:/) I've painted but that isn't really apparent by the photos and echoes again my real concern about continuing to post iPhone photos. Too magnified (of course it could be my misuse, if anyone has tips.....))...anyways, enough complaining about it....here's the first fellow, painted up. The base, has grown on me, at first I wanted to do a base closer to the standard but then I just got to experimenting....any ways....here

The red torso and legs are pretty much done, little touchups and final highlights...the the shoul,ders, neck and and chest need work of course, and wrists...still along way to go with this lady but i like it so far!!

Looking good so far. I like the red, and the blue hair. I love how you put the lights on her hair.
I would say that the grey/black areas don't look as good as the red. Like on her sleeves, I would add more contrast. Increase either the shadows if it's supposed to be black or add highlights if it's grey. But maybe it's not finished because the boots look great.
Aya Minus! Thanks for the tip. I understand what youre saying...the difficulty for me is the size and the overall lack of any dynamic topography to highlight or shde. shes got "girl" arms so im tentative to overdo the shadows and lose the highlight. I took your advice but only ssubtly and added some stippling to give the shirt a little neotech texture...do i need to push the blck further? heres todays progress...im really liking her but i need to slow down now and focus on specific spots. the back pack, the boot..still..other side of gun...face....more clean up. but its really coming together! im nerding over the hair...stoked on it Also guys, im experimenting alot with photos from my iphone so some of them may seem irregular..these photos were shot far back then scaled down. so they are very big i guess because they appear blurrier than normal here, but then zooming in on the gallery equalizes the res.. Im trying to figure out why this is happening, but i think it comes down to the fact that after a certain point, the iphone is not conducive to high quality high res photos of minis.
Alright you guys!! Enough bitching from bebop! I bit the bullet and bought a digital camera. Still working it out and trying to optomize photos. I already see a clear difference. They are much much much crisper when you zoom, retaining is res, as if you move the mini closer to you, as opposed to blowing up a lower res image, I dunno, I'm not a photo tech but that's the best way to describe it. Colors are truer and blend smoother, however my little tiny errors are ALSO visible hehe...so it's even more exposing. ANywho!!!...the second Aguacill is for the most part done...YA!! I like her!!! And TINY ugh....almost like to the point where it's not even fun, I'm like painting a metal clip that's like a micro meter big. It's ridiculous...but rewarding. I really do wish though that these models were bigger scale...that'd be really funnnnn.....because I love these sculpts so much. It's hard to paint GW stuff at the moment from a design standpoint....anyways....here's ole' blue hair...still figuring out the cam and also as usual the pic is big for the embed so zooming in corrects that...cheers

I started work on the bigger fella...dunno what it's called yet, gotta look up those rules....lol....but I've got some red down, not by any means finished I have to push the contrast of dark to light really strong here so I've got not much more than a mid tone and a test of highlighting on the knee...also the metals are somewhat painted on the legs but still same goes for contrast so both white and black have a lot of painting to go....super early wip pics....
I have thoughts...... but if i left a note I'd probably get banned :-(
but the models you're doing sure are nicely done, you've got that infinity cartoon style down pretty well with enough fine painting details and techniques to make them super impressive to look at, especially considering the size you have to work with, I haven't painted any of them yet but could imagine a lot of the problem would be the limbs being so much thinner your scope for blending diminishes a lot?
heya damo! ya dude...you pretty much hit the nail on the head with it. The models are so small and well detailed that they demand you approach the application of paint in an entirely different way...Her arms are stupid tiny, but man, that guy who paints em up gets that black in such an interesting way. And its smooth...im wondering if im letting too much of the zenithal show through and instead lay down a hard totally flat coat and go up and down from there, thats certainly the longer approach...i dunno >_<...you should paint some of these man, i need some inspiration and red harvest and ckig are pretty much the only guys painting infinity around here. plus the game is SO cool....its crazy its not more popular...
Mate, I'd love to try my hand at some of these guys one day if for nothing more than a fun experiment! :-) I think you're right about the mid tone and shading up and then down to get your shadows for that effect, yes, it does take longer but the end result will hopefully give you the purpose to continue!
I'd also like to know more about the way you approached that mantis warrior for Gits' comp? I think I'm seeing how and what you did but some method and hints would be wonderful if you've time for a PM or just whack 'er up in here?
and as is normal, I really love what you paint! i'm not just saying that either because you seem to like my stuff, but while I paint to a pretty standard level across the board you seem to be pushing higher and higher each time, and you know what? I can pin point the exact time you leveled up into awesome territory :-) remember before you went awol and you were painting that Sea Ogre and you pulled a oyster shell effect out of your backside? yeah? that was when you became a new painter mate, I still think of that damn model lol!

Also this, some real blow by blow tutes in the zenithal styles would be very welcome from me , I dislike the pure black primer approach to most tutes.

Cool, so much interest! Well, my only thoughts are what's to set it apart from just looking at the tutorial section or the showcase or whatever. I think it would be cool to have a name and a badge...is there a way to make private threads so only those in the group can see it? What's your thoughts on that?? Also could host painting competitions like the guardsmen comp, which was epic. Cam I still LOVE your scheme, with the orca...gotta do one like that one of these days....
Any who, some more progress and its really starting to make sense here...I like how he's coming along. I wasn't sure at first about the metals parts, but now I really like it...he's coming along and there's a lot of pics to show it...candy apple red...
Enough bitching from bebop! I bit the bullet and bought a digital camera. Still working it out and trying to optomize photos. I already see a clear difference. They are much much much crisper when you zoom, retaining is res, as if you move the mini closer to you, as opposed to blowing up a lower res image, I dunno, I'm not a photo tech but that's the best way to describe it. Colors are truer and blend smoother, however my little tiny errors are ALSO visible hehe...so it's even more exposing. ANywho!!!...the second Aguacill is for the most part done...YA!! I like her!!! And TINY ugh....almost like to the point where it's not even fun, I'm like painting a metal clip that's like a micro meter big. It's ridiculous...but rewarding. I really do wish though that these models were bigger scale...that'd be really funnnnn.....because I love these sculpts so much. It's hard to paint GW stuff at the moment from a design standpoint....anyways....here's ole' blue hair...still figuring out the cam and also as usual the pic is big for the embed so zooming in corrects that...cheers

Today I've made good progress on the mobile brigada as well as solldifying some techniques I've been practicing I feel like it's getting better. There were a few set backs, as the new Turqouise I bought is really rather thin so when I turned figure on its side, some of it washed out of the crevices! Really annoyed about that but you live and learn and it's not bumming me out compared to how pleased I am with the red armor. I'm a few steps behind now on metal bits arms and legs and such matters but I'll get there. I'll probably do the whole metal part in full when I replace my palette sheet. Any ways here's pics...
Thanks fellas! Today i was able to get some work in,...however I really have mixed feelings about what's come of it. I can't tell if I HATE the gun or if I like it?? A big part of me wants to just do it over but it's also not too bad I dunno.....it's not the color is wanted it to be and some how that got away from me. What's keeping me in this race is that I'm so happy with the armor I have to keep going cuz everything else I'm super pleased with. WORST case I paint it black and give it a straight up GW edge highlight....or I leave it cause it looks cool...aghhhh I dunno!!

The dreaded Christmas conatation. I've run into this myself, silly as it may seem, I found myself hesitant to even give red eyes to a predominantly green mini. Your suggestion makes a lot of sense though.
Well that's a unanimous vote against the color I had. Whew. Thank you gentleman for your objective opinions. Honestly the more I looked at the aqua the more I liked it. Very Evangelion....but...alas...I couldn't upload something everyone disliked, and, dark green is not in the works for this army, and I didn't feel like painting the gun green, even though you all have great suggestion and eye for suggesting so, so thanks! I decided to paint it the way it's painted standard, which is black. This is a testament to painting thin, as I was able to completes solidly rebase coat it and still everything was a sharp as before. It was hard to do this, I was in that place of not disliking it and it was cleanly applied, alas, it was your unanimous dislike that helped see the light. Also, the back pack is coming along nicely, there are a couple little tiny things I need to fix and do the lower half, but again very pleased. Overall...I'm quite happy. Here's a bunch of pics. Again, sorry about the strange sizes I'm trying to get my camera working and I can't seem to get the dang gun AND the dude in focus at the same time at certain angles....((OH i almost forgot, the blue grey piece in the center of the gun is just a basecoat i havent decide exact;y what to do there so im holding off on it))
Maybe the next special weapon I will do in the more appropriate green. However, because I was correcting something that had to be right the second time, a third base coat would probably start mushing things up, I went with safe and not sorry. '
Flicking(scrolling) back and forth b/t the green gun and the black one - the black works so much better. Totally changes the tone of the whole fig. With the green one I thought he had picked up some kid's supersoaker watergun! Now it really looks like a 'I'm gonna blow a hole straight through you' gun.
Lovely job on the whole fig overall. The red armour is sweet. I'm not a fan of Inf. stuff at all but you made that fella look cracking. really gorgeous work on the armour
You know bebop... I have a variety of figures in my gallery that no one really likes except me. They have low painting scores, they clearly don't grab the public's imagination... but I stuck with them anyway because dang-it I like them the way they are. If you genuinely believe that the aqua was the color that nailed it... you should keep it that way. "The mob" isn't always right.

Well, fellows, this dude is done. Finally, it was slow going at the end but I'm pleased at this point with the model. Quite so. I feel like I went for a bright reflective acrylic car paint kinda look and I think overall it conveys well, at least it's better than the last time and that in my book is a victory. Plus the next guys in this squad will be painted all different colors, in honor of bubblegum crisis. Cannot wait to the girl in pink reflective armor. But to be honest, in this case, the black gun works way better than the green one. I'm late, but I confirm that you made the good choice, following people's advice.

Does something happen to the fidelity of an image when you upload it to dakka? Also minus I added a full size image but as you can see it doesn't change the appearance in the embed. So I dunno....I would like for it to show its correct resolution on the imbed. When I view the pic simply from my iPad in my photos it's incredibly sharp. But on dakka, It looks like mush every time I upload it and it's driving me nuts.....
Dakka does seem to do something to the photos. Clear, sharp and fine on my ipad or laptop - not so much when i upload to dakka o.O
I've found resizing them to about 900 wide seems to help though
I also noticed this issue, I now cut all my images down by 50% (even then they're pretty well huge) and it helps a bit. I noticed if you click zoom once, it cleans the image back up. Still bothers me though, because I assume most people just think my pic is blurry and don't bother zooming in. I also noticed this seems to be more of an issue when viewing on my iPhone or kindle.

Not much love for infinity in the world these days lol...I need to start painting space marines for realz....anywho, needed a break from painting red, so I started on this random box of morlocks for nomads. No idea their rules but they are all strange aliens and I'm enjoying painting women right now, so I started with the 1 of 2 girls in the set of 4. I'm not really super creative these days with infinity simply because well I've only painted less than 20 of them so far so I still don't see a lot of schemes in my head, starting to get some good ideas though anyways, here's some mild progress. THe skin is actually pretty much done, a few tiny details here and there, the orange is not even filly base coated yet so no worries there. THe cloak is going to be the most grueling part of the paint job, the rest is painting up quick. The pants are done, and so's the hair mainly except highlights hear and there...the Turqouise is meant to bleed into the forehead like that just FYI, it's the way it was painted on the box so i copied it :/....again some stuff to pick out and clean up, and black line....all in time...here's some pics

ive made more progress....as i suspected the cloak would prove to be the biggest challenge...the front is mostly done but i need to work on the buckles and clean them up, the back is basecoated in white and orange and now i need to really focus on that side of him. Ive made some obvious progress here but theres still alot to be cleaned up and to be painted. The boots i still havent touched nor the hand holding the gun and the gun itself needs alot, the nmm on the cyber sword i sok. if i redid it i think itd go better. The angle is a bit strange so i approached it from the wrng angle. i gotta turn the mini as i do it o the paint doesnt resettle. for now im ok with it and i still have another chance of the back side. theres also a couple of Oopsies here and there that ill need to paint over, but i wont do that till the very end...heres some pics:
Not really familiar with the figure or faction, but she looks great - skintone and hair (is it hair?) are suitably alien and very reminiscent of an alien from the Star Trek universe

Guys thanks so much, I'm really glad you like her!! I had to change the pic because I realized there was a white slash across the from of the gun blade from my Apple Pencil when I signed my logo, also a couple micro issues with GIMP when I deleted the background some blue was showing through...so anyways, thanks for votes that were cast on the previous pic In regards to the blends, the hair etc, that was the easiest part of the mini. Especially the hair. It's just super thin washes of consecutive darker colors to the back. And since it's so thin, it's pretty easy to have that smooth gradient. Cheers!
Just so I can say something more than "just" good job, and I can't fault the paint work, just a little critique: the base is a little plain in comparison to the mini'.
I know many people like basic bases so they are easily matched across an army, or so that they don't distract from the mini'. But I like my bases as unique as the models that stand on them.
As I said, that's just a comment to flesh out this post a bit and make it look like I'm paying attention.

@ Dr H: man I always prefer a more detailed critique than just a compliment So as per the bases....is it the base in general, or just that it needs more grass and foliage? Honestly, I'm not completely married to the bases I have currently, but I do like them fine, and in terms of gaming, I don't need busy bases because they end up taking damage or sometimes don't even fit!!. But in terms of an overall presentation, I'm very much concerned!! The bases on the cover models are like a rusted ship deck kinda thing...bronze...I dunno I'm open to many suggestions on different bases!! Thanks Hman

Automatically Appended Next Post: ALso, I should mention. IM MOVING BACK TOLOS ANGELES IN 3 WEEKS!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!! So stoked about this, BUT, what it does mean is that soon I have pack up my painting gear and move it on back to the west side, you dig, so i may not be painting anything for a few weeks during this transition. I may be able to get one more done before I go but it's possible that I'll be too hurried to take my time...so...who knows....just lettin y'all know I'll still be active on the FPSDD thread which I'm just THRILLED has been taken as valuable and is already burgeoning with valuable information from painter all across the board. Huge success IMO. !!!!
The plant-life is good. I like how you have positioned it as if she is jumping over it.
It's the other half; it's a bit plain.
The colour of it is good, you have some variation there.
But the flock is all a bit too even; the ground is flat and the grass it represents is all neatly cut to the same length, uniformly.
If I was making that base, I would have had to add something to break up that area; a puddle, flower, bit (or two) of trash, a nice rock, whatever fits the setting, army, and the story of where it is you have set your army (after all, this is what the bases are representing, the field of battle).
Something to give each base a unique character. They don't have to be display bases / plinth, that's not practical for gaming.
Now, I'm probably going to seem as if I don't take my own advice all the time, but check my army's bases. A quick look and they do all seem the same; mud 'n' rocks. But I try to add at least one thing to each base to give it an identity.
Maybe it's not that obvious to anyone else, but I do put in quite a bit of time for each base; initially I do just pour on my mud 'n' rocks mixture to a glue-covered base, but then I'll move things about and position larger rocks individually, create puddles and add a little unevenness to the ground (often this is planned in advance with the model's pose in mind), and then find a position for the model with any further modifications to the base then.
So there is a lot more individuality in my bases than is apparent without knowing this.
That means, when I see a flat, flocked base I generally think that it needs a bit more...detail.
Your base is perfectly fine and does the job. I only mentioned it as the only thing I could think to add a comment on. Don't feel that it's letting the model down, and it does have a "thing" in the plants. So don't go mad, changing it drastically, or at all, just a little rock or something.

ok so...HI ALL. lol, another few months have gone by and i am finally able to settle down for a moment and put brush to paint to cyber girl. The current project is the second in my Mobile Brigada team which will each take on a different color. For Fun. Think of it as a Voltron meets infinity. i dunno. This model started out rough, i was a little uninspired and that means everything doesnt it. I was carelessly doing this and that. I powered through that and found my ins[iration just in time to salvage the model and, as you can see, still alot of work is needed on parts that are still painted yet. But i have significantly cleaned the model up since i began it yesterday. What im going to tackle first is the gun, and actually finish it, its far from it but its starting to take shape and i painted the "lips" as if to give a little kiss from afar may or may not be changed, its just so small...but i like it, i think its cute....whatever....In this case i started with the face, which i dont always do but i wanted to try it, and i like working down. the fun stuff comes first and thats motivating in a way. Anyways, heres a few pics....dont be harsh, its the first one back after a few months hiatus.

Many thanks fellows....ahhhhhh.....mannnnnnn...this mini is trying my patience....the insane scale of the detail is making my whole freakin body hurt >_< I've hoped for more progress but it's so painstaking...it really makes me rethink the way I'm painting these guys....unrealistic....the back has made some progress but I'm not ready to show it,...mostly I've added more edge highlighting, black lining....and continued around the waist. The gun recieved no work at all. I'm hoping to even finish this guy, but I don't wanna just let it linger, I actually reallllllly like some parts of it enough to keep me going. Here's minor progress. (ps: whats making this model even more difficult in the first place is the very shoddy zenithal prime i gave it. It was the first time ive used my airbrush here in LA and in pour outdoor light, well as you can see on the legs, its barely there. i should have added a considerably stronger white overcoat,instead its a milky grey thats leaves most of the detail a bit hard to see:()
NOt my best work ever, but I'm in it to win it. I've tackled this mini in very much the wrong way, however, as much as I keep making little mistakes here and there, I've stepped away to come back to finding things I like about the miniature. Many times I've dropped my brushes in disgust on this lady here, almost ready to toss it. But I'm too deep in. Too many hours spent. And I think if I noodle and fidget with it long enough, I'll have a finished model I'm pleased with. Pink armor is trickier than I thought......>_<.....also black lining at this scale is just ridiculous.......There's a couple places where glazes need to be dialed back but that's the beauty of water-paint.....
Still so much to do....my god....cries in hands.....the back is coming along just need to tidy up and I'll start showing off the other angles..

Well thank you everyone! I do appreciate the positive energy to keep on plugging away at her....Today ive finished the gun on the inside left angle, the osl on the hand holding the gun, and the left foot front. I'm moving over to the back isn now but it's far from done, from the back angle, the heal, inside of the hand, all the metals which I'm kinda not sure wth I'm doing with them because I'm not able rely on the zenithal cause it's too dark!!! >_< ugh,....But her left side, front, and mostly the back I guess, is close to finished. There's a funny stepping kinda effect on the back left shoulder pad hear the arm from some I guess shoddy mold line cleaning so it's not perfectly rounded smooth which is kinda creating an effect that annoys me but I can't do anything about....le sigh.....(The pics are small in the embed but you can really zoom in on them to see fine detail)

A bit more WIP. Here's the left leg coming together, still have basically all the metal bits still to work on. I've decided to do the pink first. Then fill in the rest. Large part of why I haven't shown much of the back is that a lot of that is the metals....here's where I'm at with the front.
Gits! Thanks boss! Yeap these models are so detailed and so small, and it doesnt help that my minor ocd states that all paint must go exactly where it belongs!! Enough to give me a huge headache!!!!
Instead of black for the lining, a very dark red or red-violet? Also, something to make the lights look "lightier" bleed a little phthalo blue wash into the deepest recesses. (Yes, actual C&C. You did ask... )
Bubblegum pink is the perfect color for that mini, and for the other female Mobile Brigada. Heck, for all the Mobile Brigadas, IMHO.
@Zambro, thanks bro. Not beating myself up too much, more that it's not going how I envisioned it, and have spent more time on things that could have gone a lot faster if it had all gone so pear shaped when it came time to put brush to paint. also a shoddy job of mold line cleaning really shows its self at this scale.
@Red: thanks for the advice bro, the blue is a good idea and I didn't do that previously. But since there's already some heavy shadow I'm gonna try it as a super super light glaze. Agreed too on the variation of lining colors, which actually I have used here, but anywhere there's a definite separation I have used a black line. Im considering it practice and I've seen a lot of models lately that use it to a really effective degree, I'm copying But thanks for your experienced input here man I'll definitely be applying it this model! Who'd a thought!? Actual CnC !!
Anywho.....here's actually some positive progress on the back. I actually fkn brought it back from the dead on the metal bits of the mesh legs....now if I hadf done this from the beginning....hmmmmmmm. I like how this is turning out....
Ok ok .... So it's salvageable, theres still a veritable crap ton of things that need tidying which is frustrating busy work, but im in the home stretch, arms mesh, the outside of the bazooka, and the base and feet are pretty much all thats left. ill ad some more depth to the face and clean up any stragglers and ill have a fininshed model im pleased with.....funny enough....as I reached over to pull on my ottlite, my hand brushed the top of model and broke off an antennae.....and it nonchalantly landed on the seat of office chair.... That tiny thing. Can you imagine if it had gotten lost, which given its ridiculous size....heh....disaster averted as the above pics are after regluing said tiny bit....

ANDNNDDNDN GOD THANK YOU ASHE IS DONE> .... There's a point when a miniature just needs to end, and this lady has come to that point. This BY FAR has been the most painstaking model I've ever painted. The fact that I've finished it is really the true achievement here. It's tiny size, it's insane details. However because it May actually be my favorite mini in the entire Nomads line, I HAD to finish her. I think the next one I do will go a lot faster. Not my best work, but no matter, all in the sake of learning my friends.....here she is the baddest B*&CH around.....

Hi all. BB back at it again. This MB is moving along at a faster clip. The fact that it is not insanely small is really pleasant I must say...;lol....also Purple is an easier color, but more over, a solid prime is the difference between the struggle of the last miniature, and the ease of this one. Going for a super high gloss rich purple almost plastic look, I'm pleased so far with what's closest to being done... Let's hope I continue on the right path...Pics below, wip all over, a lot to do before moving on to the lower half...
lovely work - your colours are always so beautifully applied and these infinity models really do demand top skills (which is why I still haven't touched my Icestorm figs !)

Ive dialed in the primary angle so im gonna show some WIP of that angle only. The front is definitely coming along but some key things need to be filled in before i show it. So far, i like it, there are a couple little tiny niggles as usual but im ok as i like the overall look of the mini Here's some pics. Really trying to dial in the reflective color...nmm i guess....

Cam Thanks bud. I definitely feel better about the Shiney effect on this model than on the last, but i attribute it alot to the fact that i think its easier to do on a darker color! I dunno, might have to revisit a pink one again for the true test to see how my practicing has come along
Definitely moving towards the finish line here, with one solid quadrant of model left to paint. Today's work saw pushing contrast to shadow darker and bringing forth some mid tone purple. Its warmed the mini up some I believe. Also gone in a put more white spotting in certain highlights. All thats left is little details and fixes as i move around the model...Im experimenting with camera range so ive included some very very close up shots so dont ve harsh on the details, its crazy tiny....>_<I hope you guys like, you lurkers are silent if so, or maybe i need to get busy with some 40k models to give this blog some life :(! Anyways, cheers you guys pics below!
Liking how well the Infinity minis are coming along! I noted the different power suits each have their own color, makes e think you are making a team like many animes' have inspired.

If you are referring to my sad face re: lack of interest, its simply my remembering of the times of the beginning of this blog, when i was painting catachan and it seemed much more interesting to the fellow dakka community. Alot of my fellow painters from when i first joined have seemed to dissapear, for whatever reason. Im not pandering for compliments if thats what it seems like, sorry if it came across like that.
No, I was referring to your earlier reply to MY comment complimenting you on your painting & you said it was just purple and white, so I should compliment the figure designer!
hahaha, oh dang. :: i forgot about that ... LOL....(NYC turned me into a major complainer so im trying to be more at peace these days, as its been pointed out ive been whiny at time, by my dearest friends LOL). In truth though ive only used one color on the whole dang thing, but i do prefer the OLD warlock purple to whatever this is one is called now. The older colors seemed more vibrant to me than the new counterparts. I am in the process of moving away from all GW paints though, as im finding the other brands to be superior in different ways. That lime green i used it a vallejo paint and its insane** how much bright it is. Like i could water it down and itd go right over black no problem...anyways....No more complaining i promise ... unless its about traffic....
I'm having the same problem. The new "scorpion green" is really dull. Just bought a new bottle of the Vallejo which looks like it'll fit the bill nicely.
@ Gits: Yeah, i actually used that exact Vallejo color, their scorpion green, and its almost fluorescent. Vallejo seems to be thinner, but of higher pigment so im gonna try and switch as much to them as possible. They are a bit hard to find here though, online orders it looks like.

Heya all. I finished the 3rd MB. Im happy with the final out come, although the lights on the legs bug me, i coulda done a better job on that but i was too excited to try the aforementioned scorpion green that i started too bright for the osl to be anything but barely believeable. As usual patience is the primary enemy. So im posting some pre final pics, hes basically done, there's a few details i noticed in the pics i wanna fix, and i need to do a light drybrush on the past to catch it up to the other 2, but with out further ado,...3/5 MB

Thanks Gits! Yea that may be true, but i am happy with the final result, i think they look great together if i may say so myself. But, as a professional musician, my life is built around the concept of practice, so im very upfront with myself about critically analyzing what i need to focus on for the next model. Big gains are made with Tiny victories!

Also it bears mentioning, i realized how to put the full size photos up, on the last post, when sharing, i changed the resolution, now i see here on this post, that those pics are giant and ridiculously super up close, so now i can actually take more normal photos at a better distance, because they wont appear tiny in the embed!! YAY!!!
I agree that interest is low in non-40k things. I've moved away from playing 40k myself (so not much 40k going on in my blog). It doesn't feel that people are interested in my updates for Fantasy, WHQuest, MEdge, and assorted other painting (outside of those long time followers). Although I'm a couple of weeks overdue an update, though...

@Dr H: im still figuring it out. Thing is, if you view it from your iphone, or apple device, since i uploaded it that way, the pics are the size they are supposed to be if you just viewed it in photo gallery. But in the embed its too big.....and too up close....

Excuses, excuses. I like it, personally. And I'm hoping the next one is Cyan. Or Lime Green. Keep them brightly colored.
And I like extreme close ups. The viewer learns far more about the painting process that way.
Hmm, about the interest... If all you did was Space Marines, I wouldn't bother checking in. And really, you need to check the page views, not just the comments folks leave. I am quite the lazy one for making comments. I wish there were some way to see the number of subscribers a thread had....
It's ok BB, on my screen he's standing 7inches tall. I can get a REALLY good look.

I mean, Dakka is very 40k-centric, even with all the other great stuff out there. I know personally, I am more likely to comment on a Space Marine, because I am more familiar with it than I am with Infinity robot-bunny man. But I still do definitely check it out, and enjoy seeing the process.
@ Red: always happy for your comments red, they always have some good thoughts and pointers to perk my eyes in the right direction. And I agree, I think next two will be those colors exactly. I was at first thinking that i wanted them to in general orbit the typical nomad color scheme so I didn't get too far off, but now looking at the three i wish they were drastically differently colored. So the next two will be that way. As far as the pic sizes are concerned. I didn't photo the minis very close i just uploaded them from the gallery with the full size setting selected in the drop down. I actually prefer it because i did it from my ipad and the photos are large clear size in the embed. But when i viewed from my computer screen they looked HUGE compared to the text. For some reason on my apple devices, I prefer them.

@whaley: Hey bud, yeah i hear you, and fear not, 40k is just around the corner for me! Ive got the little grumblings of inspiration to start a new army, but i have to dial in a painting approach that i like the look of but is very quick. So alot of thoughts are coming to mind....of course im open to suggestion. A cadian Police force is at the top of that list actually.....

So here's a question: Guys, just a little poll. How many of you view dakka from an apple device. Id like to know....and if possible, and youre by your computer, view this page and its pics on your iphone or ipad, then compare to the image on your computer monitor, and telll me if there is a difference in the photos....because to me the difference is huge but im wondering if its just my monitor (which is actually a 48" LED)

What kind of differences are we talking? I can get a much larger view on my monitor without zooming like crazy, so the picture itself looks better.
I read your next maybe project as Canadian Police Force, and was excited to see 40k Mounties. You now can never live up to that brief moment of excitement.

So yeah, those two things are definitely things i notice too...ah welll....thanks for checking fellas just trying to see where i can improve my photo game. im generally happy with it but as the artst who paints the stuff, im naturally over critical of whats displaying....cool..
@whaley; mounted cadian...as in nypd horse officers? ... could be done.... hadnt really thought of doinga rough riders themed army i suppose right? Its been a minute since ive played....6th ed to be exact.... so theres kind of an insane amount of rules that i need to be caught up with. My other idea is a water themed eldar army, and a Ork stormtrooper army thats counts as IG. Looted Chimeras etc but the orks would painted all clean like, not dirty grimy...Of course the other option to continue the space sharks i did but i know how you feel about those green base rims

That is down to the relative settings of the different screens. Not to do with how they process the pictures. I could spend hours fiddling with the settings on them to make them match, and then there'd be no difference between the pictures on them. In terms of clarity, I can't see a difference.
I don't have any problems with your photos, BB. You can do a lot worse than you are (as many others on the internet will prove), and not a lot better (which is good).
Before you send your e-mail, imagine what you've written projected on the wall of a courtroom in letters six inches tall.
Dakka is like that, only with pictures.

I've seen Infinity mounties. Seriously. Some guy on the Infinity forums did them. Very unusual. I can find the link, if you want, and Bebop doesn't mind if I post it in his thread.
Bebop, always happy to give positive suggestions. Photography comes down to lighting. Get the camera settings-- and use a proper camera too, not a phone and certainly not an iPad-- right. I use the timer function and a tripod for the final photos to avoid out of focus issues. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps your photos are a bit under-exposed. Play with the ISO setting and the exposure settings until you are happy with what you see.
For browsing, I'm using a 17" Toshiba laptop, running Linux Mint, these days. Photos appear just fine to me, however, I am aware of the issues about color calibration. Different screens will have differences. Proper tools to manipulate color profiles are pricey and can be finicky to use. Don't drive yourself nuts worrying about it. We all know that painted minis, well-painted minis anyway, will always look better in person, and speaking for myself, I account for that.
Still lurking in here Chadlance McBebop :-) loving what you've been doing paint wise but I'm a bit with Whaley here, I'm more likely to shower you with much well deserved praise if it's a model i'm personally connected too, not to say I don't follow and comment in my head :-)
Pics look fab here, no "I-stuff" here, but phone, windows tablet and computer on TV screen and all look good, though best is the Surface 3, comes down to the screen I guess, photo's are fine.
Try to comment, but not sure how many times I can type "OHMYGODTHATSSOINCREDIBLEHOWTHEHELLDOYOUDOTHATMAN!!!" Between You, Nerdy, Jan and a dozen other wonderful artists it gets repetitive, personally don't care what the model is it is all about the modelling or painting for me.
These current batch look amazing, I think you fairly nailed the Non Shiny Shiny (NSS) look on the purple.
Gents, thanks for kind words. And i do understand, the site is after all called dakka dakka, not neotokyo pew pew, so no worries.
So maybe, i just decided to see whats going on with40k, and ill be honest the little grumblings of inspiration have set in, and a buddy of mine explained it well. He said, when i asked him why doesn't he play infinity with me, and he responded that there's just something about a whole giant army that i like more than just a few guys. He's got a point. So im gonna do some eldar and see where that gets me. I know i want to do an aqua theme and i kinda have this like coral reef thought in my mind. This model below is just a test and far from what id say my normal standard of painting is. But to be fair it hasn't taken me that long to do it so, thats a good thing. What do you guys think? Im very open to suggestions....this is just the first test i like, but sloppy....and probably less detailed than i want....also the base is super funny, I dunno i kinda like it, its supposed to be kinda tropical sand ocean floor vibe lol....i dunnoooooooooo

Like the colour choices. And could see the bases being very exotic. Oh and if that is standard for troops and speed painted, awesome. Remember try to not get bogged down with perfection on troops.
It's a very nice scheme, and those same colours and gradients applied to some of the larger Eldar models like the tanks or Wraith constructs would look stunning.
The base I think needs some contrast, at the moment it's a green-blue mini on a blue-green base... Some orangey-red coral or seaweed or something like that would cement the theme while adding some pop to the whole piece.
I think its a beautifully done model. Love the color scheme. The base color is great, but you might think about adding some other elements to it to really push the model over the edge. Red, orange or yellow bits would compliment the color scheme nicely.
Interesting scheme. Maybe a little to Miami Vice for my tastes. I think the crest and face plate in black (to match the gun) and soul stones all in the lime green would reign it in some but still have that color punch.
Thanks for thoughts guys! I agree absolutely with y'all about the base needing some little things on it. I actually have this p3 or whatever tub of red yellow and orange clumps that i wanted to use for corals, i cant FIND it!!! So we were alll on the right page with that one....
Whaley, i took your advice with the black face plate which i prefer, i just have to redo the eyes.
Ok, so here's just a little more, obviously just showing off the back and the sash, which i will actually do much better it was sort of an experiment here that i ended up liking, but the execution was wonky. No worries, again, speed painting here and ill have to quite a few more of these guys obvi..... here's just a few pics. My concern now though, is the base is too close in color to the sash. So either the sash changes or the base does,.....i could just do the sashs in grey like the gun and faceplate? Or should i change the base?? Excuse the crap photos did this in a hurry before splitting the house...
I'm really surprised how much the minor change balances it out more.
Looks almost like a Mymeara Dire Avenger, the Craftworld FW likes to use.
For the bases, maybe invert what you were thinking? Orange "ground" with teal, blue, purple plant things. that with a black rim would jump up the punch I think.
Your DA looks fantastic, I especially love the top coloured bar on his shuriken catapult. The colours work well together on the model. My only critique is the base is too closely coloured to the model, they bleed into each other in my opinion. I'd try to go with something on the base to contrast with the model itself. You use a lot of cold colours on the model so some hot colours on the base would stand out. Coral reds would looks nice I think, not too many of them but just enough to distinguish the ground he's on.
you guyssssss, i was totally planning to do such a thing and i vant find my tub of orange and red and tellow clumpies! grawr. Ill have to amazon it. i need dullcoat anyways. hopefully in a few days ill be ablet ot show that with the base as it should be. But as they say, great minds think alike!
ok hes all done exccept for the base, ready to rinse wash and repeat....i pushed the darker blue of the sash up and m,ottled it to make it look, hmmm.... seaweedy....also settled on the little tassles...its a little extra work but looks nice
oh fath,. your seeing a mix of the actual shadow and also the zentithal showing through, i letft it dark on purpose though...i like the transition with the white pink in the middle. i took a close up so you can see better, which im loathe to do btw, im speed painting here so theres things......

Great scheme well executed I love the sort of near-pastel colour palette. Works really well on eldar for some reason it seems more realistic to me than vibrant block colours...
