Commodus Leitdorf wrote: I'm not sure what Turnip28 is but it looks a lot like Sludge. Sludge is also awesome so this is neat as well.
Yep, Turnip28 was the first actual ruleset to come out of this blanchitsu historicals art/mini conversion movement so it's like Sludge's incestuos father-cousin or something. A bit more strictly limited to pre-Waterloo tech and more comedic grimdark (the author - ex-GW illustrator Max Fitzgerald - calls it grimcosy, grimdark without the angst) with forces set up to fail (the stats are Inaccuracy and Vulnerability). It's free and worth a read, I think there's a real game hidden behind the random schadenfreude generator and the author's dedication to rules clarity is examplary.
Final league game against some Stormcast. 33 to 15ish, Giants won. With that, my Age of Sigmar games are pretty much over. Maybe a small tournament in 2 months time. I will probably add x1 more 3dprinted giant and x1 more Gatebreaker to this collection, paint it and sell it
Played a game of KT21 today, Compendium Tau vs Deathwatch. Mission was "Defend the position" from the Chalnath book. I don't have Chalnath terrain so we improvised a proxy KZ from my existing terrain. In hindsight I think the board was a bit too dense, will try going more sparse next time..
I started off ok, my Rail Rifle op oneshotted one Marine, but everything went downhill from there. I advanced way too slow and by the time I reached the objectives, I had two operatives remaining, the rest having been cut down by Deathwatch shooting. Man, DW shotguns and bolters are even nastier than regular ones!
22-21 win vs be'lakors faction with bonesplitters! Critical mistake by opponent was placing summoned spawn next to prophet trying to kill him but this allowed piling within 12" of be'lakor. Mr. Random stared be'lakor to death despite 15 pink horrors(45 wounds). Some staring.
Yes, they are old mordheim buildings. the store has a pile of those old buildings. they have been well used so are not in the best shape being made out of carboard for the most part.
On the WM/H game
As to why? i do not know. i had the table set up as shown in the other battle.
It may have been because of wobbly model placement concerns or some other reason but the cygnar player request the flat terrain. i have all that beautiful ESLO finished terrain i got specifically for games like WM/H and it makes the table feel less dynamic without it. i also notice they did symmetrical placement with mirrored table sides.....buildings and trees in the middle of the roads etc... it doesn't look right at all. given the setup and who the player is i think we are dealing with more of a tournamnet minded player here.
40k League 4th round. 10 mainly melee dread vs chaos knights. 72-69. Scenario helped a lot as that gave me 12 primaries. Stlll was behind but got 1 big in the end with 2 dreads charging which gave me 4 vp and denied 7 from him,
Indeed, having fun playing the game is the main goal. especially with the WM/H community that has a reputation of being more toxic than tourney 40K players.
We often times find things that are legal to do but would make the game less fun, so we do not do them. like running multiple seraph/forsaken/hellmouth combos in the legion army.
I have all the models i need to run an armored corps theme list for khador that would give me a +1 to all repair rolls and also (enough points for) a free battle engine...because that's fair.
When he got double, free vermin lord, flamekeeper died to vortex before was able to use buff and fully buffed berserkers failed to kill screaming bell(22 wounds, 12 5+ ward) i thought i was toast.
But abomination failed by 1 wound to kill auric heartguard which kept priest alone which cost him 5 vp, gave me 2 vp and gave me chance to take 5vp quaranteed t4(without priest would have to risk priest for vortex).
4+ ward also saved a ton and the strike first ca was huge.
1st match of our new Crusade!
Tonight the Red Gobbo led elements of the newly formed 1st & 2nd platoons of the Panzer-Grots in a surprise attack vs a rookie UM SM patrol.
Those who preformed best were promised paint!
It was a brutal massacre of the UM as every grot did their best.
Losses were extremely light - only 2 tanks of PzG1 & a few misc wounds throughout were lost.
Ultimately? The prize went to the grots in the truck when they ran over the UM Lt in turn 4.
We had a guy show up at an old silly kill team tournament that i put on who was running the mini tanks (when they were a new thing) and a killa kan. it was loads of fun,
A lot of fun is what it is.
And going forward? The Crusade force's equipment will reflect what they loot (I.E. win against).
This Fri/Sat Red Gobbo will lead 2500pts worth of his followers into a giant multi-player 2 day brawl at the shop. Shove all the tables together (somehow) & play for about 18 hours.
The full Panzer-Grot will be joined by The Red God of Waaagh! 1st Artillery Kompany (15 Big Gunz {all lobbas} + 3 Mek Gunz).
Long time since last game. Gandalf was late as hell(first rolling 1 twice, then several turns forgot to roll, then another 1) but when he came led 13 warriors to center held only by 2 nazguls that had exhausted will slaughtering my cavalry while infantry fought one half of his infantry and aragorn was soloing second half.
Typical. Sacrifice mook's, then swoop in and claim all the glory
Didn't snap a pic of my two games of One Page Rules - Age of Fantasy, in which Goblins lost vs High Elves and won vs Dark Elves, but here's a public pic of the club. Two tables on 40k, one Conquest, one Bolt Action, and me in the far back right with the high intellectual forehead.
what can i say, they are the right size and a hex base, even so the scorp is a pretty terrible quad (i ran the LBX variant). i expected it to die first.
Thank you Insectum7. I do a lot of terrain stuff! You're the legend that runs the metal Tyranid Warrior blog! I know who you are! I think I got some inspiration for some of my metal bugs from your stuff when working on 2nd/3rd ed models.
One of the simplest games i have ever had. Nagash miscasts on 3rd spell, i get double, 3" pile in got kragnos within 3" of nagash and 4/5 4+ saves failed and one dead god.
With olivendyr and 10 chainrasp vs my army with total of 6 wounds(2 by kragnos scream) game over.
First time facing nagash and still no first hand experience what he can do. Presumably better than mystic shield and die if rolls weren't so ridiculous.
Archaon went for gutsy all or nothing tempting me to charge with +3 to saves(rr1), reroll hits and wounds etc buffed up. If he survives he can likely get rid of both of my stonehorns and win game.
However kragnos did 36mw and 2 frostlords and mournfang unit dozen or so more. He rolled wards way above average and survived but didn't survive kragnos(roar helped).
After that easy win though he minimized loss ending 32-22.
Might look crazy play but despite all my charges hardly quaranteed. A lot depends on kragnos charge.
Gotrek held cos line firm. Got worst possible scenario for matchup, made one super big mistake, he made 3 big charges(9, 7 and 10 with rerolls) and i failed 7" rerollable big charge.
Could avoid gotrek without 9 and 10 charges but avoiding him made no vp's for me :(
Just a quick one before i head off to the actual game store-
First-mad props to Mezmorki for his TTS mod
I have a buddy who i have played online with for years who was always interested in 40K but never wanted to make the investment. thanks to TTS we did our first introductory game of our 5th ed game last night.
He made a list from the 5th ed BA codex and i used my assault nid list from 4th. we did a simple dawn of war 2k kill points match to get his feet wet-
Played a big 3000 point narrative game of urban defence where I was up against a constantly reinforced flood of enemies With a combined force of Iron Warriors and (Blue)Blood Angels crashing against Death Guard's turf, the Echoes of Eisenstein rose to the occasion and held out doggedly. Exploding tanks, maimed corpses and falling debris filled the streets, but by the blood-red sunset, the proud banner of skull and black sunburst still flew defiantly over the ruins.
0-3 session. Gits lost vs cos though had shootas survived draw. In the end up for lord arcanum to finish which he did.
Then big waagh vs fec. Goregrunta charge vs flayers resulted dead gore gruntas and terrorgheist ate 10 brutes. Prophet zapped it and huge chunk of ghouls but with mega boss w/destroyer failing to kill other tg game over.
And new army dok vs sce horrible slaughter. Should have went 2nd instead of 1st, shoul have remembered reroll wounds(left fulminator alive w/1 wound) and not shoot annihilators t1. Instead raptors or even better vindictors which would have meant crushed center and 16 wyches for him to deal with.
A most excellent game of X-Wing at the club this week, my Rebel Combo junk against Separatists, was fairly close in the end especially as Separatists evade dice abandoned him in the midgame but Grievous managed to pop a couple of ships before getting boxed in by Wedge and Jan, which never ends well, final score 200-150(ish) for Rebels (still playing 2.0 as the other player only gets games in once in a Forest Moon)
Fyreslayers vs soulblight. Couldn't kill units, careless regarding gravesites and was forced to go first r3 rather than soulblight getting double so lost 27-19. Could have still won had 3" + redeploy amount charge failed and be able to go first r5. Did go first and 3" redeploy and 8" charge gave win unless i can kill named vampire on zombie dragon. Nope.
Pic from my "Defense of Sol Hexen" narrative campaign I'm running. Homebrew rules written by my buddy for "not Necromunda". 2-3 players per side with 8-12 models each.
First game is Orks launching probing attacks against the outer defenses of a Krieg regiment holding a hive ruin.
As the game progresses, I'm hand drawing each outcome on a piece of poster board to have a fully illustrated campaign map at the end.
Cool stuff, we do something similar with our old school kill teams/combat patrols, but we do not play often enough to keep a campaign going, right now that is alternating back and forth between classic battletech and specter operations every week.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Quick update, full report later-
just finished another TTS game of hybrid 5th ed 40K- blood angels (5th) VS admech (7th). i helped him write up a list this time for a more well rounded approach, and while brutal he still pulled off a solid win.
Gloomspite vs nurgle 25-26. Down to can glottkin do 7" rerollable to deny grand strategy.
Post game reaiized that my squig hero movement whose point was to give auto run to trolls for further spearhead unit was not needed and just gave 3" free cgharge to glottkin on my turn so would have needed 10" charge. Even better could have ran summoned trolls blocking charge...i can't stop burn and max objectives anyway...
Vengeful Death Guard forces hound, encircle and capture a hated Iron Warriors captain, siegemaster Aleksy for his insolence in damaging the XIV's shiny new superheavy tank in a previous (botched) attempt to overtake the Death Guard's turf. Despite putting up a fight, the Iron Fourth are eventually brought to kneel before the might of XIV's witchcraft and terminator charges. Captain Aleksy is bagged, interrogated and mailed back home to his commanders in exchange for some pretty lucrative vehicle production deals...

Oy, no selling yourself short on my watch, Gordy! I'm awaiting to see more of that zombie horde over at Battle Reports
First proper game in a couple of years now that I've found a quiet moment to myself. Fallout Wasteland Warfare, simple scenario of Nuka Girl versus the Zetan using the AI system for the latter to get to better grips with the rules and well, to just chuck some dice again. The objective was the Nuka Cola vendo and having played through the "scenario" half a dozen times, it was a battle between glass cannons, the Nuka Cola mascot darting between cover in between shots with her Thirst Zapper, whilst the alien defended its prize.
Catching up on uploading my photos. First game was the start of our Crusade between the Eldar and an approaching hive fleet. Even with 3 starting CP the 2 for Phantasm is worth it to keep my troops away from the hungry bugs. We won the first game but the next two games were rough as you can see by the last stand in the second photo.
We won the first game but the next two games were rough as you can see by the last stand in the second photo. Amazingly Warriors can get up to S8 on their talons which make short work of my Wraithseer.
Also got in some demo games of MechaStellar at our FLGS. We had pre-made armies to let people reenact their favorite moments from Mobile Suit Gundam, the 08th MS Team, and Gundam Wing.
We had them side by side, on the right we had Wing vs Tallgeese and Leos and then later Heavyarms vs Tallgeese and Leos. Rough day for Tallgeese who was defeated both times. On the left we had two bouts of the 08th MS Team where Shiro and company prevailed against the Gouf Custom and Zeon forces.
Finally we had a One Year War (OYW) battle between the experienced crew of the White Base vs the forces of A Baoa Qu. While Zeon outnumbered the Federation heavily our third player was surprised by how much he was able to accomplish with just the Gundam and two Guncannons. Early on it appeared that Zeon would have an overwhelming victory scoring more than double the Federations victory points but that all changed in Round 4.
The Zeon player got too aggressive and ran low on Momentum. This was the perfect time for the Gundam to shine. As Amuro began dispatching Zakus he used the "Tear through the Ranks" pilot skill allowing him to keep slicing Zakus in half with his beam saber. Thanks to his "Fearsome" pilot skill he gained a bonus momentum for each destruction allowing him to keep using the skill. The carnage of this round wiped out nearly every Zaku.
The Zeon player did have his high movement Dom's left and just one Gelgoog who were able to exact revenge and take down Hayato's Guncannon. Kai swore revenge and wiped out a pair of Dom's himself that turn, amazingly killing one with just melee strikes from his fists. The dice were certainly on his side!
I got to the game matrix at 2:30 PM yesterday and i am just now getting done putting away everything after i just got home, it is 8:30 am. so i will post more in the appropriate subtopics later. after a nice nap.
There was the large flames of war group there that started earlier in the day. they come in about once a month to run a campaign. i forgot to grab any pics of their games.
I set up a couple tables for games i knew we had planned-
warmachine
.Khador VS Skorne 50 points.
A lance on lance battle between our Marik player and another Kurita player while i was off playing warmachine-
A couple shots of the specter ops group's campaign-
My last game was a clan invasion of an IS outpost. The clanners invading the inner sphere *shocked pikachu face*...nobody saw that coming.
Just a few days ago I played a friendly 9th edition 40k game, my Chaos Marines against my dad's nids. It was great, the Chaos Marines held the line with a 55-30 advantage in victory points and mostly because of secondary objectives. I took Assassinate and Bring It Down which really ballooned my victory points every time I killed a Hive Tyrant, because he is both a monster AND a character. And I know Tyranid players love their Tyrants, and overall they are dependent on monstrous creatures, at least from my perspective. My Predator took out a Trygon in one go with Prescience and VotLW. Hitting and wounding on 2's, 4D6 damage and I rolled literally just good enough to kill it by getting a 12 with that. The battle was conceited afterwards so it was over at turn 4 with Chaos controlling 4 of the 6 objectives, and the Tyranids had one. Overall, I thought my dad's nids did a terrific job in both the shooting and psychic phase, both my Land Raider and Vindicator were gone by turn 3, possibly even 2. They were hit hard in the first turn and stricken near useless with the Terminators having to disembark early and sell their lives to keep the lead Tyrant in melee so Lord Tarkin could arrive the next turn and fight it one VS one. It did happen, and the Tyrant was slain (it was also the warlord) but it costed 5 terminators and a slew of legionaries to contain it. The whole battle was filled with epic moments, so try to ignore the ghetto table and stuff haha and the quarters are the OBJ's, since we were really not that prepared and the shops were closed so we had to improvise, we just really wanted to play the game.
Edit: The picture in the middle was the one we took at the end when we called it. The other 2 are pictures of our deployments before turn 1.
2nd game with khaine ladies. With 2 glasshammers r2 priority was going to be gold. No double turn and i got rid of enough stuff that with cannon blowing itself up 2 doomwheels can't do enough. After his t3 i would wipe 2 wheels, leave general alive for battletactic and r4&5 just wipe 3 support heroes.
33-13 but double and don't think i would have survived. Doomwheels blows my stuff up.
Dok vs soulblight. Little experience with these so was bit worried. Good news is i had no rush to alpha strike so army was able to stay in coherency. Ladies tore through wolves like hot butter.
We had to wrap after r4 but after he won r5 prio it would be 25-15 most likely. He maybe gets 2 vp if he can get 10 of his wolves killed.
Wrapped up 40k league with solid 74-43 win vs orks. Ghaz and stormpa were unstoppable but equally he had little tools against 10 dreadnoughts. I layered over objectives and focused on anything even remotely soft. Getting rid of meganobs turn 1 was also big help. He also failed lots of 9" charges.
This weekends update for our FLGS the game matrix-
We had a battletech game going on one table.
Steel vypers VS marik-
While i was off on this warmachine adventure........
thats 200 points per side with 7 players hordes VS warmachine- the front lines no warcasters/warlocks, no jacks/warbeasts just infantry machine apocalypse style.
Bonesplitters vs lumineth in power in numbers. Best scenario possible in this matchup. Got double r2 and kept priority r3 and after my t3 all objectives burned and 13-4 vp and teclis dead(another effect of scenario was he had to risk teclis giving prophet chance to mask him for 13 wounds).
Il-Kaithe Eldar verus Iron Hands Space Marines in a 2000pt game. We used the older 8e Maelstrom of War decks and wound up with indiscriminate firing (3d6 each round with 6s dealing mortals from IDF) and Champion which powered up our warlords with +1S/T and +2A/Wounds. Very fun game with a come from behind win for the Eldar, unfortunately every spirit stone needed to be collected from the battlefield with only the Wraiths, Karandras and the AOK surviving.
2 games vs idk. First league game with fyreslayers, then with khaine's ladies.
Let's just say dice rolls were silly biased for me game 1 and just went even worse 2nd game. Passing only 2/6 5+ rerollable was very bad roll and getting 5 blood sisters out of 9 rally rolls didn't even feel lucky...
I lost against thousand sons with the new Tyranid Codex
He killed the 5 Carnifex on turn 2~. Lot's of Doombolt. Lost by only 2 victory points due to my opponent getting slay the warlord but I couldnt touch Ahriman on Disc
Mere 6k big waagh vs tzeentch. Magic was mean and some mean melee surprises but no double turn for him on r3 and alternating melee ensured i gave hard damage even on his turn.
Tau Skaven defeat Orks in a somewhat close game. Tau getting the first turn allowed them to take the momentum away from the Orks. Highlights include an overconfident Tau Commander running in to punch a weakened Warboss to death, and being killed in return as the Warboss had a stratagem to fight back after death.
Khaine lost vs stormcast in crazy game of swings by 1 vp, then lumineth won vs cos with heavy stormcast allies. Had to buckle up t2 and hope i weather for 1 turn and keep prio which i did. Then ogors won vs tzeentch though disc enlightened with help of double r3 tried to solo through my army but cannon said "boom" and sorted that problem out.
I was supposed to have a game of 5th ed 40K against some green skins. they had this lifta droppa thing they wanted to try out, but alas real life got in the way and the game got postponed.
So instead, it was just loads of classic battletech.....oh the suffering.
Game 1 was a game i was in playing as clan hells horse against another player playing my own kurita faction- 2nd swords of light.
This was an 8 turn limit game with the objective being getting some clan infantry to the superheavy omega class mech and stealing it.-
All the defender had to do was prevent the TYR IFV from getting there.
Game 2 was a bit of an oddity as i managed to break out some mechs that never see the table-thats right it was a light mech brawl.
There was also a hex map game going on at the time thanks to so many new BattleTech players that we did not have enough tables set up.
We did have a game of specter operations going that was a retro vietnam era setting.
Khaines ladies(without morathi) ran over khorne 24-18 despite me blowing grand strategy that was push button level.
Avatar was big one(by luck) stomping daemon prince, surviving, taking out flesh hounds and denting daemon prince before another daemon prince finished it.
Finally got to play the recently released "Strength & Honour" rules, for massive ancients battle set in the Late Roman Republic.
Romans vs Pontic Greeks; the classic showdown of Legion vs Phalanx. And the Phalanx got absolutely trounced! A poor deployment decision from yours truly left the Greek right flank pretty much open, and a single unit of Skirmishers took out two Pike Phalanxes in just a couple turns.
battletech training solaris style, we will take the training wheels off the noobs soon.,
Non battletech-
This table was going to be for battletech, but we ended up playing some old rivalry -necrons VS eldar-the war in the heavens in epic 40K scale.
Finally a specter ops game...and actual small skirmish one that didin't take 6 hours! (they love this game but they keep trying to play a skirmish scale game at macro scale )
More info/pics later in the appropriate sub forums.
Freshly painted dok army vs nighthaunts in apex predator.
Boy do khainites hit like a truck. R3 bottom(gave priority for opponent) finished off last ghost. Lost just slaughter queen on cauldron, 4 spear snakes, 1bow snake and 6 witch elf 3 that rallied.
More Castles in the Sky from Osprey Games. This time, I have a different opponent than my usual Campaign foe. I am the French up against the Americans somewhere over South America.
This ship was paint by my friend The Painted Dwarf.
50th aos game of the year. Teaching new player in1500 pts game. She had nighthaunt, i had cos with sylvaneth and Stormcast additions in super casual list.
Was getting creamed hard(damn that black coach is nasty vs cos and unrendable saves passed at silly rate) but marking territory gave me chance especially as she left home objectives vulnerable. And lord arcanum teleport. Didn't get r3 double which would have been autowin but she failed to kill lord arcanum so won anyway.
Had that failed primary win impossible win for me, hard for her and battle tactics tricky for both.
Khorne vs slaanesh. Good armour saves from khorne kept me up in grinding war. Skarbrand took out sigvald, 2/3 slaangor and dropped keeper to 1w. R4 got double and that was it. Though me removing objective r3 gave him chance to get vp's closer than it should have been.
4 way triumph & treachery. Ghosts got win helped a lot by turn orders and my help(me going first r2 helped ghosts, me going first r3 and failing to do 4 wounds to belakor again helped them). Lumineth was 2nd and way behind my gits and legion of first prince in that order.
We had a special made hex board table in the storage room i broke out to the joiy of the battletech hex map players and it got used for multiple games.
The other table set up for 3d terrain also got quite a bit of use for battletech
Final game of league. Marking territory vs unkillable chaos warrior swarm(3+ 6+++ vs -2? 5+++ vs mw? How to go through that?). They didn'j kill my guys and as they won r3 priority made me go first and burned objective from me and with help of summoned cultists just swarmed objectives for win.
Started well enough but t2 skink charge from teleport worked giving 4vp and killing evocators. Then they got double and i failed to get counter double. Add to that magic wreaking havoc and my army just melted.
Without 9" charge would have been very different.
No charge and no double r3? Then it would have been very good for me.
Not rolling higher than 5 for unbinds except the roll i made for lolz when he failed to cast when i rolled 12 didn't help. It was like dices mocked me
First games with new ghb. Bonesplitters vs cos&sce. Fulminator/demigryph kkight was too much 3+ save to grind down and 20 crossbows had field day. Skaven won vs ironjaw in crazy game where rat ogres saved the day after most of my army died. And sylvaneth over aggroed and after 2 rounds 0-9, most dead and counter double locked the result.
Edit: post game correction. Made big mistake in adding points so adding it up correctly 31-29 win for ironjaws. Skaven first outing loss but at least nearly tabled orcs
Rematch of skaven vs skaven. This time 2k close to chest.
Round 2 went horribad for me and just ran out of army. With battle tactic failing(8 plague monks buffed up failing to kill like 6 clanrat) and gs going to fail and succeed for him and objectives rolling for him called it after my 3rd.
Helping teach some kids BattleTech at the shop this evening.
A 5 way free for all featuring;
A Blackknight,
An Awesome,
An Exterminator,
Some.... Samurai looking Mech I never remember it's name
& my own Shadowhawk (red dice) - completely out classed, out gunned, & holding its own through 3 hours of play.
In the end, with the Samurai thing, Awesome, & Black Knight all down, it came to the severely mauled Exterminator getting me with a lucky Crit roll.
Khorne vs ghosts round 1 of my tournament. Scenario helped me. Thirsters hugged his army and fought to death while 2 blood reavers ran to backlines scoring 2 battle tactics, grand strategy, 3 objective burning and 2 primary points. Not bad for 160 pts.
Round 2 vs gits. Battlelines drawn scenario was about worst i could have had vs these gits. Had to gamble and get troll hag try and fail to kill skarbrand. Alas no fail, my skullcrushers whiffed and git double r3 ensured total bloodpath.
Round 3 vs cities of sigmar. Game premise simple. I get double, i win most likely. No double, i might kill his army but can't outscore.
People keep telling me that the double turn thing in AoS isn't a big deal, and that anyone who dares raise questions about how unfair it is just doesn't understand the game.
Yet, tneva, whenever I read your AoS posts in these threads, the double turn seems like a really big deal, like, most games tend to hinge on whether you get it or not.
Khorne vs cos it was only thing that gave me chance(otherwise look lists, know winner). Git game it didn't decide game. Just made loss into bigger loss(we rolled priority more for curiosity as we called game already. I was toast. Deader than stone. That game was lost for good on skarbrand gamble that failed). Game 1 3 doubles, 2 for nighthaunt yet i won. 2 previous games no effect. Previous 3 game day doubles didn't change.
Khorne vs that cos shooting castle with cos having less drops is one that double was literally only thing that made game something that wasn't foregone conclusion. Without double winner would have been known instantly. Meanwhile most of my games past month double been at most lose even harder.
Git game had skarbrand survived(my big gamble. I wanted him to charge in and nearly kill skarbrand. My smaller gamble was for him to ignore him but as he didn't have alternative worthy target less worry but had he ignored skarbrand still not a happy guy as while not as bad as killing skarbrand still bad) i would have killed sloggoth and troll hag(literally no question. Sloggoth literally auto dies no dice roll needed and hag is extremely unlikely to survive . Auto death if skarbrand is left at 1 wound).
This would have been big and at that point git double might not have been deciding and i'm pretty sure then it would have been win despite double. Lucky charge by trolls might save still but without it i should be able to win it.
Skarbrand dead i simply ran out of steam and even if i kill army(i did have 2 bloodthirsters and 3rd ready to come once 1 die) i can't catch up on points.
Double just ensured it's even faster. Can't kill hag so remaing half of my thirsters going to be dead.
Also cos game his near complete lack of screens exposed him to double turn swing. Drop steam tank, add 2x10 screens, i'm going to need kind of miracle to win even with double. Still doable as 2 handed axe bloodthirster can do miracles if he rolls 6's on wound rolls but will require hell of a luck plus double.
One trick skew list that foregoes screens against army that lacks ranged counter threat but has ability to bybass overwatch increases importance of double turn. But of course without double you know winner right away and bit of math you can figure out vp's +-2 accuracy.
Never mind wednesday game where i took out 1/3 of his heavy hitters, got double, got lucky greater plague(firsv 5+ on 1d6, then 11+ on 2d6) yet still got crushed. Yea real strong double turn. Lol.
I didn't get to play as many games myself this weekend, as i was facilitating setting up tables for others, but that was fine because i enjoy a good looking table.
First off, the battletech games-
A very small learning game of warmachine-the match made in heaven or hell depending on your perspecitve-
Protectorate of Menoth VS Infernals
Some 40K...i do not know if they ever got around to playing or they were jut doing a beauty shot-
Specter operations
Star Wars legion
And finally, the game i was playing a smallish 30K game of world eaters VS salamanders.
Obviously, we were somewhere in the warp considering the presence of a TAU world in 30K.
I made an extension to my table to get it up to 8 feet in length. Because shooting a tank cannon 72 inches is glorious.
Did a tank battle. Two custom ork battle wagons and 3 mek guns vs. 1 Leman Russ, 1 Chimera, and 2 Scratch Tanks. (The Non GW tank models. They counted as PL 8, Lemon Russ with battle cannon only, and do not benefit from Grinding Advance Rule.
Mission was Stand Off from Open War. Imperium had range and fire superiority but orks were more aggressive at rushing the center objective. Imperials pulled off a last minute win though with a lucky advance roll to take the center objective last turn.
Imperial Kills: Two Battle wagons and 1 unit ork boyz.
Had a game with my Wolfspear against my buddy's Tyranids. fun game, and first time using my new Gladiator Valiant. MVP was my Hounds of Morkai, they killed two neurothropes, and 10 Zoanthropes.
Ironjaws vs cos. T1 went as well as i could hope and got double so if i would have chance this was it.
7" charge with goregruntas failed forcing to choose deal with shooters with general or let them shoot at me. Killed them, lost mawkrusha. Also tied his griffon with goregruntas but lost them of course.
By now i had just not enough tools. Even if i kill 1 unit of demigrypgs other unit and griffon will kill me. He got double though so 3 heroes left vs 9 demigryphs, pair of griffons and couple wizards.
2000pts 9th ed 40k vs a friend at the local FLGS. Didn't really want to play some 9th, but I've not played a game of anything in a long while... We agreed beforehand to use some daft lists full of chaff units as this was the wargaming equivalent of a kickabout for us. So it was Death Guard (using Terminus Est list) vs. Orks. The bulk of both lists was Poxwalkers and Grots respectively.
I had 80 Poxwalkers. Think he had 80 Grots as well. They just ran towards one another and started slapping.
Had a nice four player bash of Titanicus for demonstration purposes. In the dead of night, amidst a fierce battle between Iron Warriors and Death Guard legions, the titans strode to duke it out properly. After the firestorms, mushroom clouds and orbital death-beams abated, the minty fresh God-Breakers were but a smouldering memory under the victorious tread of the Ashen Gods.
The most unlucky fellows on the field had to be the crew of the lone Stormhammer: imagine driving your slow juggernaut of a tank days on end to have a titan smash through the highway ramp right in front of your nose, have your treads fuse together with the asphalt as the Warlord next to you goes nuclear and end up buried under like three different titan-corpses
The other day my Grots accepted the challenge of trying to bring down a Baneblade (+ an accompanying Guard patrol). 55pl per player.
I had a solid plan for accomplishing the BB takedown.
Alas, it turned out that the dice gods were not in agreement & the takedown units died in vain.
Even so I still damned near won on VP. Had the game ended on turn 4....
Unfortunately the last of my forces were cut down leaving leaving the Guard to score vp unopposed in the last turn. I lost by 5 pts.
2 games of crusade. First up against orks. Slaughtered them to the ork losing just one unit. However the orks cunningly stopped me doing actions which gave them just enough lead winning 100-90.
Then up against death korps with 2 tanks in 25pl. Ugh. Assasinate so keep librarian dread alive.
T2 got into melee. Realized might been better to wait for assault doctrine...got russ with demolisher cannon dead. Punisher shot guys from melee shooting plasma cannons to dread. Still alive.
Got brainfarth and charged everything to the tank. Sang guard tore it up predictably(hitting on 2's rr1 assault doctrine on) giving him chance to blow up last wound and then 20 punisher shot. 2 wounds, 3+ with 1 reroll. Survived and won the game.
2 games of path to glory. First weird custom scenario where objective comes round 3. He had half units hidden in terrain and half in reserve. Rounds 1-2 i move in empty board ready to go where objective comes.
I had wandered next to haunted forest so 16 ghost appeared 3" away from me wiping monks but furnace and warpfire thrower nuked them and furnace took out rest of army.
Then second game vs lizards in thondia open vault scenario. Wild gnashing jaws in center. That proved good for me eating 5 temple guards in 2 turns and slann on 3rd. Monks ate 5 cavalry, furnace bastiladon and saurus general, warpfire thrower most of saurus and at lizard turn 3 he retreated. Couldn't open vault on 2 4+ roll so just minor win.
2 games.
●1st is a 2k pt Late War Flames of War battle.
US rifles with tank & plane support vs my own Soviet rifles with arty & self-propelled gun support.
Victoy: Soviets
●2nd is BattleTech.
My Hatchetman + Banshee vs a Battlemaster/Centurion team.
Victory: me. The Hatchetman was (barely) the last mech standing.
(I love that there are so many new map sheets in BTech that I can't immediately identify them anymore! )
For the BTech game your seeing a very poor picture of an awesome looking 6x4 vinyl map the shop owner had printed..
He found some btech site with custom maps & had a few printed up.
This one is a desert area. On the one side is a housing allotment complete with roads, trees, houses, swimming pools!, a factory/mall, etc.
The middle section is a huge swathe of bare desert cut by a road & a central bit of rough terrain (I think that rough bits in the pics).
Then the other 1/2 is deserty hills & ravines.
Next time at the shop I'll try & remember to take a picture of the whole thing. And find out what site it came from.
The FoW game fought amongst 40k terrain?
Well, the shop where this battle occurred has a severe lack of 15mm terrain.....
We're fixing that.
65-57 win by blood drinkers vs death guard. First non-crusade game since new ca.
Tried new strategy called "wait and suffer shooting". Worked surprisingly well. T3 finally launched assault. Sang priest sacrificed himself eating terminators attacks. My own terminators hit 6/21 attacks killing 1 but lib dread barely killed blade of sanguinus target winning game in the end.
Apart from lib dread heroes were infiltrators stopping deep strikes a lot and redemptor dreadnought that ate shooting silly amount. On my t4 it was STILL alive.
I'd have to paint those buildings, I can't let terrain that lovely sit bare
I have an insane amount of terrain i have to transport for all the various games i/we play i regularly bring 8 tote boxes of just terrain. many are in bubble wrap or original boxes with packing. however when it comes to the 6mm terrain i have no way to transport it in a manner it would not become scratched up. so painting it would be a waste of time.
Speaking of games-
There were a bunch of DnD games running including a 6 hour slog that tied up most of the miniature gamers for the night.
So the only other game i was not in was this 9th ed 40K game
I played 2 demo games of DUST 1947, the first was small and fast so no pictures. the guy i was teaching liked the game so much we went again at a higher points level and a different army (he played allies in game 1) this time it was an objective mission with the falshirmjager facing off against the SSU steel guards.
The last game of the night was a 50 point game of khador VS skorne, we were both trying out some new stuff so it was pretty interesting.
Crusade continued taking beating first from chaos knights(just can't stay safe long enough on half board) and then dark angels. Having to go 2nd gave him time to pummel me, got shot to death, own impulsor caused 15mw to me, he denied crucial wings and then 6 heavy bolters shot 3 sang guard...
Skaven vs skaven in ptg using the skaven special ptg scenario(which gw clearly didn't plan for skaven vs skaven. Skaven goes first...okay which skaven?).
First turn slaughter was terrible with hordes of rats dying(even from my side). Things looked bleak for them but 4 ratling guns were safe. He also played safe and didn't overcharge leaving less damage this turn but killing huge swathes of rats without losing ratling guns. Double here could be crippling as my rats would struggle vs 16d6+12 shots next turn.
No double so i drove harder in though pulled back from his screaming bell. He was "hurt me!" And i was "like hell i do". Giving him free vermin lord didn't appeal.
Got his stuff mostly wiped by end of his turn. Still double might give him some chance but still me.
I charged all to bell. Furnace whiffed. Corruptor whiffed. Rat ogors got 4 wounds but 3+ saved. Thing survived with 4 wounds.
Then he hit bell, got another wound so on 2+ he gets verminlord, on 1 dies.
Well, it was an oddly sparse night for weekend gaming. lots of real life stuff kept some of our regulars away.
There was a game of X-wing being played on one of the back tables but i forgot to get a picture of it because i was playing my own star wars game-
First off, some classic battletech on hex map-
That game and the one i played on the swamp table were both republic of the sphere era so we could break out some rarely used mechs-
The star wars game i was playing was using the B5 wars conversion rules for a small demo game-because of the scale i was using home 1 as a rebel assault frigate so it would be roughly the right size for the small frigates and patrol cruisers defending the XQL platform.
Then a buddy of mine wanted to try out a new fleet list for BFG, he had to use a borrowed chaos battleship to be a second emperor because we didn't have enough ships.
That Treeman Ancient managed to lure 3 units (the fourth failed the charge roll) into the woods. One whack to the waggon later, and it slipped away into the woods and left them all to get nibbled by the tree sprites.
First time on receiving end of skarbrand. With wrathmongers even more ridiculous though imo goes to silly overkill. 32 mw plus other attacks as minimum generally clears targets anyway
Blood sisters are nuts. The new mw ability is crazy good.
A BattleTech game I was in this evening.
Comstar vs Comstar. Equal tonnage.
My force:
Hussar x1
Sentinel x1
Lancelot x2
Flashman x1
my foe:
King Crab x1
Highlander x1
Blacknight x1
The battle ended with my Hussar dead from 3 engine crits, the King Crab blown to bits via an ammo explosion, and the Blacknight reduced to somehow still functional mangled scrap.
The Highlander surrendered.
I will say that Warmachine is a game I tried once, but couldn't get into it, but I played Convergance when I did. I never had that giant model in the picture, but it looks very cool!
I played a game of 40k with my Chaos Knights vs my buddies Aeldari (won the game, after a really good T1 took out his wave serpent and fire dragons.
Then played some underworlds, my Skaeth's Wild Hunt fighting through the nethermaze agaisnt my buddies Shadeborn.
Victory: Orks - by alot.
Because it was one of those games where I couldn't roll to hit or wound. Makes the game alot more challenging when that happens.

Honestly i did not care for it in MK I or MKII but MKIII was a big improvement in my book as far as game rules go. that got my interest. the convergence battle engine or what everybody likes to call "the boot" is a fantastic model and quite good rules wise.
I completely understand what you mean though. i feel the same about Star Wars legion. i am an old school Star Wars fan, and i like the models, but the game mechanics are huge turn off.
CCS you have mini tanks! so did a fight break out in the grot mega tank because they were fighting over who was going to push the buttons?
CCS you have mini tanks! so did a fight break out in the grot mega tank because they were fighting over who was going to push the buttons?
Apparently.
Between 2 Mega Tanks, 4 grot tanks, & 3 big gunz Kannon? All they managed to do was obliterate 1 Def Dread, do about 1/4 damage to the Squig Boss, kill a handful of boyz (most via an explosion), and die.
And we just won't talk about the failure of the Red Gobbo.
The foot grots & 2 lobbas were not up to the task of doing thier jobs + picking up the slack + winning the game. You can only ask so much from grots on foot....
Though honorable mention has to go to the grot Nebelwurfer (lobba) team. They ALMOST dropped the squig boss on a desperate overwatch volly.
It was left at 1 wound & proceeded to run down and eat everything I had left during turn 4+. :(
This rampage clearly unnerved the dwindling survivors as they completely failed to hit/wound the beast during those last two turns.
Another game in my mini campaign. Orks break through the outer defense. Krieg rush to fill the gap but fail to stop the penetration. All games will use dense terrain from now on.
Today is a good day to addict....er i mean demo games for players, to expand their horizons...yeah that's the ticket.
The first game was the big 7 player specter operations campaign game.
There were a couple battletech games being played but i only spnapped a shot of this one.
Then i ran 3 players through 2 games of infinity N2 (my favorite version of the game) at 250 points with a djanbazan sectorial VS a hassassin (mostly muyibs) sectorial (man it has been a while since i last got a game of infinity in). with positive results.
We ended the night with BFG- a new list for battlefleet bakka VS a tzeentch themed fleet and then a khorne themed fleet-
I already have 3 demo games scheduled for next week for 3 different systems.......there is not enough time in a single day for all the gaming that needs to happen.
Had a nice friendly game over the weekend, Tau vs Space Wolves. Because he was still relatively new I ran 1500pts against his 2k.
Took a Coldstar with a Flamer, Thermo Projector and Shield Generator as a distraction unit. Charged by a Primaris Bike Chaplain and somehow not only survived with no damage, but also killed the Chaplain including 2 wounds without using the Thermo.
Later on a Rune Priest thought he'd have a go, same thing. This was after the Priest perils'ed himself trying to Smite the Commander.
Battletech this past week.
It did not end well for the Catapult/Dervish team - though they did eventually shoot a leg off the Cyclops a few turns after this pic was taken...
The rulesystem is well suited for smaller scale. No individual model removal and easy to measure manouvers (no weird hard to measure stuff like wheeling)
Yes to the report (eventually) and kind of re set up.
The Death Guard set up in depth (they were all DC’s collection - a true labour of gruesome love), mostly to fit everything in. I think I counted 6 ‘haulers and 7 drones. Countless legionaries. The marines set up on the back line to get maximum firing time.
Turn 2, a Great Unclean One, Scabiethax and about 40 Blight Lord and Death Shroud terminators deep struck and it was all on!
Here’s a pic from late game after mass casualties on both sides - as you can see we used most of the available space!
Dirst dok vs cos&sce. Started horribly losing heartrenders and unit of blood sisters for 3 pistolier and 1 demigryph(which mostly fixed coherency for him...). Double for him and half bow snakes and he smartly stayed so far only got remaining pistoliers gambling for counter double which failed so things looked bleak...however after redeploy 8" charge from fulminators failed. 2 snake units cleared them and cauldron took down demigryph. He got cauldron but 2 snakes cleared rest.
Then witch elf dok vs nurgle. The nurgle durability hurt my charge dependant army and split army badly. My army got worn by war of attrition. Need more lessons with non-snakes.
Third game. 1 blood thirster khorne vs mawkrusha rogue idol tag team. Both wanted to avoid exposing big hitter first. I won priority making him go first. This gave me chance to tag mawkuska with skullcrushers and winning r3 prio got thirster there. 4 hits, 3 6's for 12mw to his every unit. Game over...
Was in good spot even had he went first r3. R2 forcing him to take double was big.
The joke is my monthly part i go play there once a month and get told it every time.
2nd game with sylvaneth. Much better than 1st where after r2 : was for dll purposes tabled. 24-22 with lord imperator faillng to kill 10 dryads for battle tactic.
Scythes teleported, charged(+2 from spell), killed(minus one turn where 9/14 3+ roll failed) and teleported away several times killing dragons and other stuff. Durthu also killed loads until dice froze. But neither could really get hold more with 4 objectives and him using proving ground twice to deny me hold more.
Song of Blade and Heroes: Testing out a scenario in which the bad guys have to kill off the villagers, and the good guys have to rescue them!
Lasting Tales: Close-up of a Reaper miniatures wagon. The scenario is that the good guys have to escape the house on the right, and sneak their way towards the edge of the map.
I feel really fortunate with my FLGS this was today's hectic pace-
battletech 3-way solaris
Aeronautica game 1
Aeronautica game 2
battletech alpha strike game
warmachine menoth VS cryx
warmachine menoth VS convergence.
A BFGB5 wars conversion game-
A mismatched battle in the clans favor-classic battletech.
Then the games i was involved in-
Universal 5th edition 40K game-5th ed salamanders VS 7th ed ADMECH
classic battletech fedcom civil war era...the nightstar was running double LBX 10S an ammo crit later both the tempest and thunderbolt were dead along with him.
And a final 5th ed 40K game of 3.5 ed iron warriors VS 5th ed salamanders.
No clue i don't care much about map sheets since i only play 3d terrain myself. as for the number of games i actually forgot to take a pic of the specter operations table and i didn't take pics of the 2 DnD games going on since they are not miniature based.
Like i said-great store, great game nights, great community. makes me really appreciate what i have after seeing how little some players get to actually play, or how few systems they play.
League opener. Super bad match up with 10 dark lances and anti-vehicle wyches vs my 7 dreadnoughts. Some got lanced, one leviathan died to drazzhar. At least second leviathan took out hoverbikes, archon and his incubi but not enough. When i have to engage in melee/melta range to take out raider leaving incubi alive not good. And ravagers had all the range needed and behind total deep strike coverage.
It looks like the FLGS may need to add a painting night to the roster as well!
Indeed it is.....
As for the painting, one of the guys never paints anything....well until he got into battletech because painting comstar units is easy. the cryx player has just recently bought most of his stuff, he just got it together enough to use. for most gamers i think the building/painting seems to never end. i was fortunate enough to get all caught up myself when it comes to my armies.
Fyreslayers vs idoneth. Didn't go too bad though losing berserker unit to king/eidolon tag team hurt. But r3 screwed when forgefather went to hunt king. Didn't fall back with his retinue to cover him.
Dead father. Losing ward berserskers died. No hammers left vs 2 unkillable(short of 12 dice doing 8 or 12 6's) and he got r4 double for further nail. He would have 5 objectives and i would have just 20 vulkites and couple minor heroes. And dwarves being slow...
I had my first game for this round of the 40k league in my province. Had a win with my Chaos Knights vs Thousand Sons. The game was just horrible for my opponent, who had pretty awful luck (failing 3 charges in T3, and his warlord rolling double 1's twice in the same turn casting powers and died). We played the mission where you only gain CP if you hold an objective outside your deployment zone, and my opponent never gained CP this game, which was hard for him too.
Khorne daemons vs blood angels. Game got decided by 2 things. He went blade of sanguinus vs skulltaker, he was kept at home doing action, 0 vp. Still win had he taken bring it down for 15 but t2 bloodletters got 6" charge(thanks skarbrand) straight to home denying 7 vp to him. Bloodthirster denied 3 more on t4.
I was supposed to be fighting grey knights in our oldhammer game tonight, but something came up so i ended up doing battle against a 1,300 point guard army. he didn't have a lot of stuff, so we borrowed the stores old armor cast baneblade to bulk up his army. 5th ed IG VS 5th ed salmanders
H.B.M.C. wrote: Heh. A Masakari and Nova Cat corner camping at long range.
Perfect.
It would only be better if it were a Nova Cat A, for extra sniping-ness.
Even funnier.......had he not got super lucky with his hit locations on my thunder stallion (nearly every shot hit CT even with me hiding behind the hills to try and get terrain protection) instead it became almost a MAD situation. the fire scorpion and warhawk killed each other. the the vixen evaporated when he stood behind the stalking spider and crited it's SRM ammo. the nova cat barely survived.
Played a Marvel: Crisis Protocol game last week, Dark Dimension into Cabal/Malekith. Failed to kill Malekith when the opportunity arose (blanked out on several attacks by Dormammu), and ended up losing 17-13.
Crusade game vs freeblade knights. Hit and wound max 4+ -1 dam wardogs tough as hell and getting hit by melta when killing big knight tough but scenario helped a lot. Get to center for vp's but there inv save gets negated? I take that!
Librarian dreadnought got the honour of finishing off 3 knights himself. Big&2 small.
Castles in the Sky, Americans ambushing a Japanese fleet.
I tried running this game for my monthly club meeting. Unfortunately I think it failed to impress.
Observations: +The group liked the core mechanics of the game +If the players knew the rules, it would have gone better, instead of a single turn taking an hour or more. -Players thought I started the fleets too far apart. I probably should have started both sides closer by 6"-12". -Too many ships for too many new/inattentive players. I probably should have only had them running 3, or even just 2, ships each. -I needed something other than dice to indicate altitude. Chits would have been a better choice.

Bummer. I still look forward to the after action report.
When I ran the game at the book launch, we had a big white board that had all the ship's, command ratings, altitudes, speed, armor, and critical conditions like damaged/stalling/sinking on it. That worked pretty well.
Each person only had a single battleship, a cruiser, and an escort along with a stat card for each ship.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. It can be tough to tailor an introductory game to hit that sweet spot where they get a feel for the game that record then without bogging down. Looks like you learned allot from the experience anyway.
Had our first "Last Stand" KT21 game today. Didn't have time to finish the game, played until the end of turning point 5. My trusty Squad Lorenzo managed to cause 123 wounds to the Orks during the match, I lost two Marines, and had lost 2 out of 3 objectives by the end. All in all I enjoyed the match, playing without the Tac Ops cards felt nice (one less thing to think about), although I didn't really use my additional Assets that well, Ammo cache with the plasmagunner worked a treat.
We will be playing more Last Stand missions for sure! It's a nice change of pace from typical "VPs are everything" objective-based missions. Next one will be my mate's Deathwatch or Phobos team defending against a neverending tide of the Blooded..
Poor deathwatch got slaughtered. Their first 2 turns whiffed hard result'na just 7 bloodletter and minor damage to soul grinder and skarbrand.
T2 i bring my army in and wipe most of his heavy hitters. R3 i kill rest leaving just mopping up. 82-24. 3 vp i could have got leaving 2 units alive t4 for grind on my 5th but whatever.
First loss with daemons. 18 units of orks were trading too efficiently and 6 objectives was rough. Going 2nd(again) hurt a lot as well.
I was murdering generally what i touched but his counter punch took out units steadily. Eventually lost control of objectives. At the start of r5 at best, assuming my units don't die to his last shooting, i lose by 10 if i go for objectives, 14-16 if i go kill for lolz.
Played a game of Marvel: Crisis Protocol last night, Dark Dimension into Guardians of the Galaxy. Narrowly managed a win, after finally flipping the Skrull and holding it for a few turns.
Buildings from the Battle System Village Set. Maladum dungeon terrain and game system KS in October.
Game tiles are Ravenkeep's Terra Tile set. Pre-order on the Ravenkeep.net page.
Fallen villagers (used as clue tokens) are from Tiny Furniture.
Played in a 6 person Marvel: Crisis Protocol tournament on Saturday.
Round 1, I played Dormammu into Web Warriors, and won, primarily due to very good rolling. (forgot to take a picture)
Round 2, I dropped Wakanda into SHIELD, and lost 13-19. No experience playing against them, and just lost to a better player.
Round 3, I dropped Dormammu into X-Men, and won 17-13. Guy complained about my dice, about Dorammu, and about the scenario he ended up playing until he finally left.
2-1 was good enough for 2nd place, with the SHIELD player placing first . Not too bad for my first MCP tournament.
Khorne daemons vs nidzilla. I stopped game midway due to opponent getting so salty and nothing seemed to improve his mood(offering free #hooting when he said he hadn't heard i denied psychic which would have altered shooting plan. Fine i said. Shoot again and old results still stand).
Did learn to respect how durable these are initially to low number high power weapons wihout full rerolls. I didn't take much damage despite 2 exocines and 2 tyranofexes.
And got to keep in mind the bloodletter move in combat phase stratagem. Been overflowing with cp anyway and can lead to surprising threat range#.
Hard to say. They dented carnifex and then I got tired of the saltiness(not sure what started it. I admit it's possible I caused it somehow. Certainly he claims to have misheard when I said denied. It's possible I did say something to the effect of "no, denied" and he misheard. He then said he would have shot differently and I offered him to shoot as he would have with old damage standing but didn't improve game mood one bit) and packed away.
They did the mission action that requires surviving to your own turn which was good. 4 T5 4w models with 4+ daemon save and -1 to hit(he can't get within 12") seemed safe enough especially as he had soul grinder and bloodthirster as further worries. Damage was less stellar but only one combat and carnifexes are not ideal targets anyway. Actually among the worst possible with T7, 2+ save and negating dam2 from hellblades...
On saturday will be facing death guard. Maybe use them more for objectives/actions if possible as the -1 dam will neuter these a lot...
The move on enemy combat phase was fun stratagem though. They went from my objective with about 8" charge if I move normally to the carnifex in center to 1" from carnifex straight to combat and get vp from reality rebel middle.
Wish game had continued. Think it was still either way. OTOH my initial charge was less stellar than I had hoped with just 1 carnifex and 1 tyranofex killed but had tagged another carni and exocrine. My 8w cap bloodthirster safe from hive tyrant that ignores the cap and as for bloodthirsters 4w to one was all the damage I had taken. I had scored 2 turns secondaries while his 1st turn was flat 0 but he would get hold more 2nd turn unlike me. How skarbrand survives his 2nd turn would have been critical. Big bases and terrain bottlenecks but no -1 to hit this time(for one I'm close. For 2nd I used them to reduce leadership to negate ld10 effect and score my secondary easier).
Yeah I wouldn't sweat it too much, sometimes people get overly frustrated when playing the game and it doesn't go well for them.
Oh wow, I haven't been keeping up with the Chaos Daemon's codex but sounds like some pretty impressive changes with 4++ and moving out of phase.
Agreed on Carnifex (and many giant bugs in general) where the -1D hurts a lot when your army is packing 2DMG. My Orks & Custodes struggle with that quite a bit.
Once I get everything unpacked I'll have to check out the Daemon Codex, I haven't run my bloodletters or crushers in a long time.
Bloodcrushers did well vs marines but ork squigriders and carnifex were tougher ones. Saturday another tough day coming vs dg. Maybe use to camp objectives? Too tough to bother with greater daemons.
When you are wounding on 4+ or better and dam2 matters it's sweet. S4 t4 w2 ideal targets.
Greater daemons been tough to deal short of massive ork swarms.
Had my second game as part of the Ontario 40k League. Tie 78 to 78 vs Leviathan Tyranids with my Chaos Knights. Lost out on the win due to poor target priority turn 3, big mistake and I should have lost the game because of it. Incredibly close game from turn 1 to the end. (I had to kill a broodlord in order to get enough points to tie the game).
Played a 3-player variant of the Kommandant rules for Warmachine MK III. My Cryx vs Circle vs Khador. We had to call it before completion, but I was up by one point, but unlikely to win given the way things were moving (the Khador player was likely to pull out the win).
Yes, unfortunately it is something championed by the tournament players for accurate movement......and it makes the table look terrible. i have a large collection of great looking ESLO hobby finished 3d terrain i got just for WM/H
Khorne vs dg. Was worried as bloodletter dam2 loses effect and -1t tough.
T2 skarbrand failed 6" rerollable charge...tried to save him by using pile :n stratagem to create screen between him and terminators but those died. With extra attack per model courtesy of skarbrand died fast...
However i controlled sides and 10 terminators can't be everywhere. Daemon prince killed 3 heroes for assasinate. 83-49 win in the end. Mostly thanks to board control.
Also beautiful layout Sherrypie. What are you using for the backdrop?
Thanks. Photo manipulation, my kitchen table isn't particularly post-apocalyptic most of the time. Just erased the unwanted bits and put a red evening sky behind it.
Not that it looks much worse than typical 40k table with l shaped thin cardboard ruins in symmetric positions...
Both HBMC and I hate that kind of thing. since both of us have been at this for so long having a fantastic looking table that makes sense (like NOT being symmetrical mirrors, or having buildings in the middle of a street for example) is a really important thing for us.
Another fantastic game night at the FLGS
battletech is always with us
The 40K table was set up for the mechanicus forge. the first game was a smallish 9th ed game of orks VS tyranids
Game 2 was supposed to be my rematch against khorne berserkers. however, we got a late start so i gave my spot up for our iron warriors player to do a 3.5 chaos warband grudge match. (more on that in my 40K topic)
I also helped out with a huge DUST 1947 game letting them borrow my allied army to boost their own models in a bit of a refresher game (again more detail coming to the DUST topic)
The final entry was the one game i actually got to fully play in-B5 wars star trek conversion-Klingon VS Romulan battle. (more details in the B5 wars topic)
League game vs orks. I had week ago played same scenario with very similar lists so we knew what to expect. I did manage to fix my mistakes in target priority though and getting 1st turn resulted in reversal of last game. 85-47 win.
Yes, unfortunately it is something championed by the tournament players for accurate movement......and it makes the table look terrible. i have a large collection of great looking ESLO hobby finished 3d terrain i got just for WM/H
The good news is that I think the upcoming edition (MKIV) is going to make 3D terrain more common, as it brings back elevation. Getting rid of elevation REALLY made it very easy for us to stick with 2D terrain, no matter how bad it looked.

We never stopped using 3d terrain or elevation in our MK III games (all it does is give a +2 defense it is pretty easy to understand), however i think MKIV will make 2d terrain more common given how streamlining it makes it less impactful on the game. about the only thing not 2d i expect to see is some flat "hills" added.
Bit more of a game than last fyreslayer outing. I was being beaten by trio of bloodthirsters but scenario(turf war) gave me chance to win directly or at least maybe draw?
Bloodtihe hero phase charge made job lot harder(would have been autowin without). Forgefather needed to solo 3/4 wrathmonger to win but just 1.
Could still have had chance to draw but magmadroth father failed to kill bloodthirster failing battle tactic and then only way i can not lose is opponnnt literally giving win away. Regardless of dice rolls he wins by tie breaker bare minimum.
7 cast all foot ogors vs slaanesh. Powerfull ogor magic gave me punch i needed to trade msu efficiently. I trade ironguts for be'lakor any day especially when i can then get keeper next. I declined double r2 and didn't get double later which at least kept him in game but failing by 1 wound to kill ironguts failed bt leaving game 15-7 and he doesn't have enoqgh units to get vp gap closed.
Game #1 this evening: 40k, Drukari vs GSC.
Victory went to the Drukari - though the Cult did some respectable damage.
Game #2 : Axis & Allies 1914
Teaching this version.
Humorous error in turn 2 when the French player opens a southern front by attacking Italy thinking they were a Central Power member (they were thinking of Italy as being an Axis member in WWII. But this is 1914!)
The Italian players response? "Well I wasn't your enemy, but ok we'll play it that way...."
Frances rash action greatly skewed the rest if the game, much to Russias detriment.
Still, much fun was had, so
1st game of Kill Team v2 in about 18 months.
Both of us were extremely rusty....
My Orks vs Tau.
Pretty much the only real reason the orks won is because I'm a very aggressive player.
I grabbed a few early VP & simply took the fight to the Tau's side of the table. They were too busy not dying to go out & score.

Pretty much how i won 40k daemon vs tau. Grabbed early lead by getting to objectives and keep him too busy to do actions, got tabled in 3 rounds, won by 2 vp.
Path to glory skaven vs nighthaunt. Verminlord was whiffing hard as usual and catapult couldn't score a hit but warpfire thrower, pair of rat ogors and plague furnace carrried the day. Even vermin lord warmed up in the end and killed 5 banshee...barely.
Got a fairmy good game of Axis & Allies 1914 in this evening.
Rules were taught last week, rules errors made last week were corrected, & best of all no-one attacked their teammates this time....
The major downside (for the Allied powers) was that one of their players really isn't all that good (yet) at these types of games.
Thier eagerness to play outstrips thier skill - and sometimes logic.
And since we generally believe in letting people make thier own errors.....Well, some strange builds/moves can occur.
The Allies surrendered at the end of turn 4.
The Russians were knocked out by thier own revolution, France was being ground down, Italy was just fighting to survive, England was a virtual non-factor in Europe (concentrating on the Ottomans/trying to save Russia) & India was about to fall....
Oh. And the USA attacked Spain (a neutral worth a bunch of $). To be fair, they did this for the lulz since the decision to yield had already been made before they'd gotten thier turn.
And another 1k game vs drukhari. Last one was closer but this one total slaughter. Tzeentch magic and 3 flamers brutal. Loc even had luxyry of opting not to smite archon to death and charge just for lolz.
Game #1 - late in the game my Hatchetman & Enforcer close in to finish off the enemy Hunchback.
Victory = me.
Game #2 - Early game, my Hatchetman & Griffon vs a Locust/Awesome team. On the moon!
Vacuum & low gravity rules were in effect.
This one did NOT go in my favor.
•About 7 turns in the Griffon lost the use of both legs due to them being breached in Vacuum.
•And then the Awesome punched the Hatchetman in the face, exposing the heads internal structure to the Vacuum.
:(
A Tau incursion at a mining colony is intercepted by Blood Angels. The Marines have overrun the landing zone by turn 2 (as seen below), but Tau reinforcements are returning from patrol and approaching across the river.
Another game of Grimdark Future with my son. Hard to overstate how much I am loving this game.
Daemons vs dark angels. Their first turn was such a whiff that as i hadn't yet mentioned loc exalted or relic nor bloodthirster relic i dropped them to even odds. Still he couldn't kill either gd...
After r3 it was 50-28 plus 3 quarters for rnd but he has just couple heroes and random marines and 4 dw knights in bad position. I'll be reaping grind down and reality rebels plus increase gap in primaries.
