RW - Cheers man!
Gits _ Thank you sir!
Ramos - That just means it's been a while, not that I've been busy The ammo holds it's shape fine, there's a bit of wire in the centre of the resin to enable you to shape it.
I was a bit too heavy with the bends and split the resin - you can see the gs repair blotch - there's a limit to how much bend you can give it before the resin splits, but it's good stuff.
Awesome - Thanks, the wheels are just straight off some WW2 jeep, no need for skill
Yggs - Glad you approve, cheers!
ldd - Thank you. That's a fantasy orc torso balanced on a skaven's robes on top of an ork boot. With plentiful gubbins almost hiding the dodgy waist area
First one's nice and bright, let's see what happens next time...
Dr H - Thanks doc
graven - I thank you, and appear here today to grant your wish...
vik - Thanks for the compliments. I knew not everyone would like the bright wrigglies, then again, I have a feeling most people wouldn't enjoy looking into chaos As I've said, I had a blast with that guy, so there will be more in the future, some will be dark and gloomy, some will be bright, some will be icky....
neil - I said when I got it that someday I'd go crazy with it
KC - Just the response I wanted Cheers!
Ok, all good here, we had some fun with the rising water involving pallets, then makeshift gangways, then long walkways in order to get to dry ground from the pontoon, but no harm done.
Eventually the walkway was built through the gateway as the water was higher and the security gate had to be wedged open. Water rose for two days after this, then started receding, back to normal today. That sloping gangway is usually horizontal.
So a run on chaosy stuff at the moment, a brief change of pace. And as to those beauty shots of the tentiball:
Better pics and some other stuff over on my chaos blog if you're so inclined...

Unfortunately I'm drunk in charge of a keyboard right now, and am gradually losing my ability to post sanely so I'll reply at a later date - hopefully the weekend
Water level is right down now, but has frozen over - I won't even attempt to figure out how to get pics off my new phome and into photobucket and then to here as that would probably end badly with utterly different pics posted So you'll just have to believe me

Ok some replies..(and that's all for this post..sorry folks )
Gits - Thanks a lot, I have a few issues with the way I failed to control the washes properly in a few places but I'm really happy with the finished piece - you can definitely expect to see more of these in the future
vik - knew you would I'm on a boat -water level goes up, so do I...what's the issue - although explaining that to the council when they were trying to kick us all out a few years back was hard work -
"You live on a flood plain"
"Yes, but we're in boats"
"No, you live on a flood plain"
"Yes, we get that. We also float."
"But you live on a flood plain"
"We're in boats...we float...if the water level rises so do we."
"Look, You live on a flood plain"
"Sigh. Yes. But we loat, we're on boats, if it floods all that happens to us is our view gets better....."
"You live in a flood plain"
Etc. etc. et-bloody-cetera....
ldd - Than you, you do don't you...so cute and squirmy
See...you get it
prototype - Cheers, to be fair, so does the inside of my place
Llama - Ahh, but mine is five berths behind me there....had to stand there so the barrels didn't obstruct the view
vik - No..... more naughty interests
ldd - exactomundo
vik - Someone been talking about my age again.....
ldd - ahah, found the kulprit
weety - Nope.
6 or 7 of some...
vik - To be honest I just have 5 stock minis, it's all conversion work
graven - Hmm, there's potential in that idea.......
Skalk - No huge dome, but trust me - that stuff is far closer to toxic goo than water.....
neil - No unicorns here.
I've cut all the horns off and sold them to Traditional Chinese Recasters.
Normal (hah) service should resume shortly... just received my Dreadball KS set, and there's some green-skins in there

Post by: monkeytroll
Gits - Afraid not..that's taken from my decking...mine isn't really a boat, it's a houseboat..similar to those behind but without the rooftop terrace.
Once my loan's paid off next year it's time to start thinking about real boats.
Mooring fees include adding boats to the three free sides of mine, so that's just a no-brainer.
Narrow boat would be great, a 40 footer probably, plus a small run-around/mini cruiser type thing....eventually.
weety - Close....but you can take out the large part
ldd - lucky I don't drink then....err apart from that little lapse the other week
Tentacles are just under the surface...you have to look real close.....
Since we seem to be on a bit of a flood/boat tip at the moment....
Honest, that's a field that is.
Coming back the other way....
Can't see mine, but basically the same as those.
That shouldn't be under water..water should be a foot or more under that
View across from my deck...I was standing on that quay last night....oh wait, you can't see the quay, it's under water...
And back to model related stuf....
Just to let you know now, there's no progress to show on anything, but plentiful supply drops in the last few weeks, some of which should be of interest.
That does hopefully meaning progress is coming soon...
OK, hold tight, here we go...scream if you want to go fasta...
General stock, grabbed some 'tile' sheets for a bit of variety, and some foam for more terrain work.
15mm apc from Antenociti's...wheels, bits and hull will obviously be going to different projects
Couple of AE Bounty guys from cipher designs...really like the first mate on the right, may end up as a Dredd figure
Some more gorgeous sculpts from McVey Studios...jetbike is lovely. May get some minor conversion, not sure yet, I do love the sculpts coming out of here. A metal geezer, and a couple of arms that the meks are squabbling over already
Always good to have some containers lying around...
...especially if they're full of stuff
AT-43 bit grabbed in the Wayland sale, been meaning to see what could be done with some of this stuff for a while. Got most of the actual piece apart without damaging too much, not managed to seperate the legs out yet though...still, got some funky bits there, interesting ideas are afoot...
Plastic Cryx set...looking forward to working with this stuff in plastic, and some Mantic Orx, which seem to be disguised as a VHS cassette
The orx marauders...not the best sculpts on the planet by a long shot, but in the sale I think this was like £3 for the 10 guys...I can work with that
The Cryx set:
Warcaster - bits for the chaos guys. Slayer warjack, 2 deathrippers and a defiler - lovely bits for the meks and chaos warpsmiths to fight over. And all emminently choppable....
Biker from Puppetwar...fair bit of clean-up required on this - pretty bad mould lines in obvious places. Will it go to Mega-City or to the mek-shop? 50/50 at the moment, time will tell...
Flyer from Puppetwar...much cleaner mould, nice detailing, nice little touches like the panel lines continuing on the pegs to hold wings in place.
Look at all those dakka options too...and magnets come supplied for easy swapping.
Nice job on this kit. Bits will be going to the meks, to Mega-City and possibly to the warpsmiths too...
And my Dreadball set arrived too. Let's do the whole unboxing thing hey...
Ahh, shiny new box...mmmmmm.
Shiny rule book, a ticket for a participation event and a signed print of the cover.
Rule book is nice quality, looks well laid out (although I've not read any yet, so might not be...), and lots of photos and pics.
Play board. Various other versions were available ( mdf, acrylic etc) but I was more intereted in the minis than the game so didn't bother. May still try and get a game or two in over xmas though, that and zombiecide, should get some opportunities...
Stuff innit?
Roster sheets, card tokens, acrylic tokens and 40 odd hex bases for the minis. All looks nice.
One bag containg the MVP's - special characters from a variety of teams, plus a coach and a trophy.
Nice quality of detail, a bit of flash clean-up needed, but to be expected. A few of the poses look a little 'meh'. but as it's unlikely they'll be keeping the poses in several cases....
And the obligatory scale shot, ganger takes on one of the nameless.
One bag containing the Forge Fathers team. Dwarves. 10 guys to a team, 3 different poses. A few will become squats obviously, others not so sure of yet, not looking for a squat force atm, so...
One bag containing the Veer-myn team. Gas-masked rat-dudes. Some will be heading to the forces of chaos certainly, there's a few bits that may end up in the mek-shops.
One bag containing the Marauders team and the Corporation team. Orcs and humies, these are the guys in the basic box.
Corporation. Couple of right arm choices. Obviously multiple choices for these guys, Imp and chaos.
Marauders. Grots and orcs...think it's patently obvious where most of these bits will re-appear
Ref-bot and a couple of balls.
Not looked at the rules at all yet, though have seen a few good things mentioned around Dakka - downloadable rules have been available for a while.
Still to come for me:
Two more teams - robots and the nameless, those should be lots of fun to chop up.
Two packs of keepers - one set for the 4 teams above, one set for the robots, nameless and 2 others.
Pack of various cheerleaders.
Pack of various coaches.
Four large special characters, alien, nameless, robot and human/orc.
OK, that's it for now...who knows..there may even be new work to show next time...

Some overdue replies......
weety - Cheers, let's hope we get to see some action on some of those goodies....
Gits - This summer's project is probably replacing the decking itself, few bits starting to warp and loosen - sign to re-do the lot methinls....
vik - Can't help having water on the mind when you live on it How about if I get some old-skool pirate freebooterz on the go?
ldd - Variety is the spice of life after all dawg
graven - At the cost of getting on my bank manager's bad list Still, there's loads more KS goodies coming this year, all of which have been paid for so guilt-free goodness when they get here At the price I got them can't have any complaints at all...
lego - Gonna have fun when I get round to messing with them...
I suspect you'll get to yours well before I get to mine
neil - Cheers mate...yeah, liking the nameless, can't wait to get the rest of that team...
Skalk - You're not taking the toxicity of the water into account there though
Yeah, that was one of the things that always attracted me to the AT-43 stuff, lots of containers in the kits...
HAZ - Cheers dude, back from a break myself - no doubt there'll be more on your blog by now, I'll check it out....
Ok, bit of a break there.....christmas, work and personal life all got a bit complex.....little done - which seems to have been a common theme in this thread recently...ah well
So what's been going down...
Due to the ass-about-face I managed my pledges there was a bit of a delay with my Dredd KS goodies, however a mail to matt at Mongoose got things sorted and last week got a heavy ol' package with a bunch of goodies in:
Automatically Appended Next Post: Buggerations - that was not supposed to be a press on Submit
OK...continuing..
Won't go into detail on the Dredd stuff here...think that's worth starting a new thread for now...I'll let you know when it goes up...
Also grabbed a bag of trim from Grandt Line on dstein's advice....
Cool bits and pieces, useful for more than just terrain at a quick glance...
Was involved in the DCM Secret Santa organised by graven, which was a load of fun...my Santa turned out to be Arakasi, and I got some lovely stuff in my package....
Lots of cool goodies as can be seen...fun to be had in all sorts of places...
Before it had arrived I'd set myself a challenge of building a mini using just the bits from my Santa package. And so that became my first project for the year....let's hope I can actually complete it this year hey
Looking through the bitsfor a while gave me a few ideas, some of which I felt neded some extra bits to do them justice. After a bit of mulling I had a couple of concepts I liked though....
First up was a cyboar...not progressed far on this one yet, in the short hobby times I've had I was working out which bits were needed....
Pretty sure I have the rider sorted, but want to wait till I have the boar body sorted to make sure he still fits....
The plan is to have the dakka attached to the armour plates, and rather than going for some robotic limbs/wheels/tracks I'm going for an anti-grav unit to replace the rear legs....
So far the body's from a lion, head from boar and eye from part of an elven standard....the grav-unit will be based on a beakie jump pack and part of a termie so far....
Obviously I'm allowing myself to use GS too
Next up was a shoota boy for the cyborks.
Body from a boarboy, left arm from an old metal stromboy, right arm from boarboy and two FW bolters, with the cable coming from a servo-skull.
Legs from a black orc, head came from a termie arm and a boarboy....job's a good 'un. Just need to decide on base (plenty of basing goodies in the selection) and ready for some colourin'.
And whilst getting back to grips with some modelling today figured I could do this little geezer too...more for the chaos dudes, but I'll throw him up here as there's nothing else to go in the spiky direction just yet.
Gobbo body with the head cut out, arms from Mantic elves and flaming torch from a horses tail...quick and easy
That's about the size of it for now....finger-claws crossed there'll be some more soon....

Post by: monkeytroll
graven - good to be back, and hopefully get some stuff done Really want to try and finish these three before jumping off to other guys as they're the secret santa challenge I set myself
ldd - Cheers! If you paid more attention to reading rather than deciding which orkmoticons to use you may have noticed the head was a termie's shoulder and a boarboys's jaw
He's on wires to make it easier to paint without putting my grubby fingers all over him
Dr H - Thanks doc!
Ok, little progress, but let's show it anyway, try to keep this rollin'
No more colouring done, but the shoota boy has ben undercoated - no pic as a pure black ork ain't much to look at....
So the cyboar:
Lost the rear end so the hover gubbinz could be attached...
Termie torso, which fits reasonably well, jets from the jump pack and part of a killa kan underneath, shoulder joint I think. Once it's all been gs'd to blend in I'll see if I want to gs some turbine blades inside the hollow.
Bionik ear comes from some bit of decoration for the elves...
Boarboy torso and legs fit reasonably well on the lion, and there's a bit of braided mane that will connect nicely to the boys torso as the control link.
Arm comes from a black orc with part of a kan's ccw as the choppa part, will probably be getting bionik slugga arm on other side, head will be boarboy head with my favourite GS bionik eye in place...
Short and sweet, that's it....

ldd - I know the feeli.....oh look - shiny
Gits - Cheers!
Arakasi - Well, only just started to be fair Getting three out just shows what a good selection of bits you provided....as I said I can see loads more, but really want some other bits to do those ideas justice......
HAZ - Thanks man!
graven - Red Boar, it gives you jet-packs
Llamahead - They never went away in my world
dstein - Cheers Dave, nice to be back, still need to check out what you're doing in your own little middle-earth. And thanks.
Well, in that pack I see weapon barrels, gun-sights, engine vents, wings, bioniks of various description, ,access panels, exhausts, armour plates, shields, wheels.....
vik - Yeah, been a few absences recently, have to admit. But thanks for the wb
Cheers, appreciate it
Well, if I forget something it's a nice suprise when I come across it again.... tbh it's keeping track of where I've put each bit that's the issue....
So, what's on the menu tonight?
Few more bits came in from the Dredd KS, thought these ones could pop their heads up...
Couple of sprues of zombies, which will be heading zombiecide way rather than to MC-1 I feel.
Metal zombie bits, always useful, and a zombie judge...nice.
A few East-Meg judges....Booo.
And a sentenoid...the meks are converging as I type...
As to the cyboar...
Started GS work on his mane..
And started in on his dakka...ammo hopper from a beakie, part of a drill from a kan, and part of an exhaust from a trukk...
And that's it for now....back later...
22619

Dead dreads look pretty cool, how good are the castings on them by the way Boar needs wings no seriously he is developing well the jet pack idea is hilariously cool, but what else would we expect from you and that demented mind of yours
The Dakka is nifty looking as well like the fact you kept the barrel short, most of the time they stick out to far IMHO, the only thing I would suggest (although I am sure you will any way ) add some fur texture to his legs as they look a little to lion esque at the moment.

Post by: monkeytroll
graven - Hmmm, might just happen, we'll see Dirty sov-judges I had missed that, interesting....
ldd - Decent casts on the ones I've checked out, not been through all of them yet though... Minimal flash, no horrendous mould lines.
Well I don't mind large dakka, but as I'm limiting bits to those in the Santa box..... Yep fur texture to come...
Haz - Hopefully not as long as most of my builds in this case.....
Anvil - Yeeees, just don't know exactly what yet. Was originally considering wheels, but thinking hooves may be better, but might be of a slightly bionik nature...I suspect they'll be one of the last bits to get some work.
graven - Hadn't actually considered that....but am now, cheers
And just a couple of quick snaps...
Left dakka has had handle from the ammo hopper added, piston from the dread pk, and part of a melta bomb for rear detail...
Right dakka formed from beaky shoulder pad, part of the elven chariot yoke, trukk exhaust, gubbinz from the other en of a melta-bomb and skull from trukk decoration...
Coming atcha....

I like the idea of it's front legs running madly to keep up with the jets pushing it forward.
I'm interested to see how the jet assembly will be integrated into the body.
I kinda like the idea of it looking like it was installed long enough ago that it boar's body has started to grow over the edges.
Or that the skin was stretched over the edges and pinned down... very horrorshow that though.
It's cool if you have other plans for that though.
The (Mad) Scientist would approve of your jet powered boar

Post by: lone dirty dog
A face only its mother could love or at least his mechanic, by the way I think it needs an oil change
Maybe add a few cables from the back jump pack to the stomach section, make it look like it runs of bio fuel.
Like how you used the marine shoulder pad for the gun section
40490
Post by: HAZZER
That is looking like one sweet cyboar!!!!
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Dr H - Yeah, there's various ideas for crashing, stumbling cyboars floating around the workshop....
Stretched skin riveted in place is the current idea, but we'll see what happens when I start work on the join...it may end up as something different...
ldd - How could any decent mek resist...bionik bits and big teeth...lubbly jubbly...
Haven't decided on where cables will be running yet...it's quite a busy piece as is...
Haz - Cheers matey!
So rider has his personal dakka done now..
Decided against a GS eye and used the sensor bit from the termie instead..
His slugga arm came from the boar boy arm, the remains of the melta bomb used on the boar, a censer from the DA banner and mag from a bolter...
Needs some gs to fill out his back and straps, and should b good to go then...
And on his 'trusty' steed..
Need to decide what I'm doing with the hooves, work on the join between bioniks and flesh, and add a bit of fur texture....
Laters.....

Gits - Cheers buddy!
ldd - Sorry dude, don't think the cables will make it, although I'll be looking at them again once there's some colour on the wee timorous beastie...
Four bits to make a bionik slugga arm That's taking it easy man....
Haz - Never enough is there? Unless you're name-checking this site, in which case you've got one too many
So, time to add the jets...tank bomb looked to be a good bet for one side, and maybe the hip joint left from the kan side for the other...but that looked a bit too awkward when I tried it. Then tried using the torsos from the mantic elves as connectors, but a bit too weedy. Bck of the beakies torso was a bit too chunky...
But the circular part from the mantic sprues was just right
Finished with lower exhausts from a beaky backpack.
A bit of sanding, add the rivets for the skin and ready for some undercoat...
And as to the slugga boy on foot...
Nothing spectacular, but work has commenced with the crayons....
Sleep tight, don't let the bed squigs bite...

Dr H - Cheers. Never forget, sprues are a modeller's friend
Deunstephe - Well, let's see about getting him painted before basing hey Glad you like the cyboar.
Goresaw - Thank you! Bikes, cavalry, a small platfrom comprised of grots - what's the difference to an orc in a hurry?
graven - Well, hardly nothing...'twas a goodly supply of finery from he who has gone to brighter shorez.....
Haz - You'll not be laughing when you wake to find they've munched your leg off my boy....
dstein - Oh please.....
Obviously it would be a looted thunderhawk, durr
ldd - Well if you're missing the water bottle you should still be able to go for a storm raven....come on, build something
Haz -
graven - I think you have it there...
dstein - I thought that was the new technique being used for miniatures these days?
OK, so a splish and a splash of paint managed to find their way onto the minis somehow....
All horrible wip shots so far, I'm hoping they might push me into getting more progress done today rather than finding something new to buil...ohh shiny....

No, early colours work well IMHO like the boar scheme so far hope you keep it dark, but grudge dreg at the bottom is my favourite by far but thats the look more than anything

I love the little bits of brass mixed in with the metal... really works to add interest.
62749
Post by: Dr H
Looking good so far. Skin of both the orks and boar look good so far and the selection of metals is good.
and yeah, sprue is amazingly useful. I have a huge pile of sprue (not just from GW) and use pieces from large lengths for structural purposes to small slivers for detailing.

I think my favourite bit may be the sm shoulder pad. I normally think those studded pads look guff, but I am proven wrong it seems!
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
ldd - Cheers. As usual I expect a mix of dark and light by the time its done No telling what will occur on the way....
Gits - Yeah, never a fan of just one metallic look, the meks have a wide variety at their disposal after all...
Dr H - Well, thank you, but early days yet, lots to do, and lots of oppotunities to get it wrong.... I think most of my pip shots look terrible, right up to the end..
Yep, sprue is great stuff, and a variety of different sources is always good, get a nice selection of cross=-sections that way....
graven - I'm a big fan of the studded pads myself, but always have issues painting them on beakies..
So, where did we get to....
Details and weathering to go...
Highlights, details and weathering to go...
Lot still to do. Including fix that broken hoof...
Playing with interference colours again. Mixed interference blue with metallic blue...finish doesn't show well in pics..
Was originally going to mix with metallic red for an iridescent look, but decided blue fit in with the Red Boar look
And just about done...
Need to do more to the green flames, add some darker 'highlights', but that's about it. And threw in an attempt at osl type stuff....not great by any means, but the first time it's not looked like I've just been a clumsy fether with the brush, so I'm happy
Avoided building any new stuff....but have several plans now after playing with bits....

What are "interference" colors??
19143
Post by: IceAngel
Very cool. I like the way he turned out.
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Dr H - So did the boar, he was most distressed to find hed lost his claws...
Thanks!
Ruglud - Well thanks for stopping by, glad you enjoyed your visit. Feel free to make yourself at home, help yourself to tea and biccies (just make sure it is biscuit based confectionery you pick up and not dries slivers of grot brain...they don't dunk so good)
Gits - Interference mediums are used to get interesting colour shifts depending on the angle of viewing, think iridescent effects like oil on water. Using them mixed or in glazes over other colours gives some interesting effects. I used a blue interference mixed with a metallic blue, which has taken a lot of the colour shift out, leaving faint purply hints at certain angles. If I'd mixed in a complementary colour like metallic red then thered be a more dramatic shift between blue and red as the angle changed, which I'll probably use on some vehicle with curved surfaces at some point, curved surfaces allowing for more changes in the angle of viewing/light hitting. I could mix it with a non-metallic red, and then there'd be a shift between flat red and metallic blue....
Thin glazes over other colours is something I want to experiment with too, have seen some interesting stuff done on flat painting using them. They are a bit thicker than most modelling paints, so best used on larger surfaces.
Ice - Cheers buddy, think I've lost track of your thread, I'll have to remedy that shortly...
Ok, just home from work so no update yet, but did get a supply drop today, firts part of my DreamForge KS. Only a few troopers for me in this wave, I went for the Mortis Leviathan which will be later in the year, along with the awesome APC...
One box of twenty troopers, and two lots of accessories.
One of the cool features of these is the wargamesfactory sprues, which stack neatly....
Shadokesh handler (alien forces to be released later...) and Ada, forgotten her rank....
Stromtrooper sprues....2 each of the larger and one of the smaller in a box, fair few options there...
Accessories sprue...heck of a lot of options there, plus bits to make three 'mules' - gear carrying 'bots which I'll admit were the main attraction for me

30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Gits - Should be a few types available at any decent art store.
Those are the ones I have, but there are a variety out there...
Squidbot - Yeah, it does...have to say it was the leviathan and apc that hooked me, but there's a ton of uses for this stuff too
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Interference paint is fascinating. I like wargames factory sprues stackability; have they fixed the moulding issue where you get lines right down the middle of the faces?

Post by: Gitsplitta
I should be able to find the Liquitex paint without issue. Thanks again!

Bare heads look ok, either facing front or rear...helmeted heads are side-on on the sprue, so not great, although mould lines lok minimal on most of the pieces. Only de-sprued a couple of mule bits so far, I'll report more once I have more bits in my hands...
And just because...
Had some ideas about turning this small A-10 fuselage into a bike of sorts, but then happenened across off-cuts from the necron flyers....
Think it might be the beginnings of a deff-kopta now...possibly with rotary cannon under front or missile racks under wings or above and behind pilot...although that last takes away from the klingon vibe I was getting....

well... i am atm trying to read through my ever growing backlist...
so here i am... astonished... the boar is comming along so cool... i had my doubts in the beginning... but the recent works on this one...and specially the running stance you´ve created for the legs... and the use of the termy back...that made a really cool looking thingummy^^...
there is this red and yellow fella...he has that wrist mounted patchett looking gun... did you use a DA bit for the barrel/muzzle? that is a totally col idea... i need to imidiatly see through my bitz box for such items...!!!
on a side note... there are some features on the stormtroopers that look good... but in a warhammer related context their guns are way too weedy looking... just my two cents...

Post by: monkeytroll
Squidbot - Well I was seeing more of a mini klingon bird of prey, but it's all good
ldd - I managed to avoid the customs charge again - did for the zombiecide kS too I have a mortis levathan in wave 2 and an apc in wave 3...just figured I'd get a few troops to see what could be done with them....
Yeah, the effect works best on curved surfaces in the hand, static pics of flat surfaces show very little...
Arakasi - True...but in my case there's normally progression through the early stages then..............a long time later.........almost done......done
They're starting to remeber how to use their tools
vik - Glad he's coming together for you vik - fret not, I am well aware of the confusion and scratched heads my initial ideas cause (an the finished article in many caes too).
Yep, part of a censer from a DA banner....
Well yes, not many manufacturers have weapons suitable for GW's over-sized cannons...however the grots may find a use for them, and of course they don't have to be used as weapons, they can be detail on various bits. Plus who knows...they could always be used as something other then GW....
So, what's been happening in the mekshops? Not a great deal...it's that wonderful time of year known as stock take...2:00am finish thursday, 5:00am finish Friday . Bleary eyed mek's have pushed a few bits of plastic together, but no huge strides forward....
So whilst graven was showing some options for his exorcist Gits made a comment about the track and roof arrangement making an interesting palanquin type vehicle. (If you've not been folowing inmygravenimage or Gitsplitta go and do so.....)
Well, that got the mek's interest.....
Still working on the track units at the moment, so no detail on top of the driver's position..probably a grot or two 'controlling' the vehicle...
Engines and gubbins are being applied to the inner surfaces of the tracks, and small walkways for the grot riggers will be installed on both sides...there's an opening door to allow the boyz to put their heads in and shout at the littl'uns...
Whilst starting work on that they also dug out an old body and started to see what kind of wartrall they might make from it...
The trukk driver mini fits into the cut-out cockpit quite well, and the gunner will stand on a rotationg platform where the turret should have been....designed so that rokkits/shootas/skorcha can all be interchaged once all get built...probably start with just rokits...
Squiggly bye for now.....

Gits - Cheers bud
ldd - Thanks man. Those are from a model kit...possibly a revell buffalo I think...
graven - Thank you...although not the sturdiest..... Close...I believe that was actually from the stormtalon...but hey, who's counting
vik - Danke! There'll be wires and cables no doubt, to ensure it's not too hi-tek
Quick update...not a lot but hey..
Think that's the main 'internals' done, possibly a vent at the front of each, plus wiring to be placed once it's together - hanging from roof...
Yep...door fell off whilst doing other work...been found and saved for regluing later...realised I'd used tube that really needs plastiweld rather than cement, so will re-do. Engine on right side needs a few more gubbinz, and the rear smokestack on that side will get re-done too, ptting bits together for that now....
Not much, but it's progress....time to try and sleep off papa nurgle's blessings now....

Think that's the main 'internals' done, possibly a vent at the front of each, plus wiring to be placed once it's together - hanging from roof...
Definitely needs some air intakes of some kind and, of course, large "Orky" exhausts...
Maybe even a little greenskin caught up in said cabling hanging from the roof.
Looking good so far.

Dr H - Yeah, my guys tend not to go in for the sitting so much
There's a reasonable possibility of grots in cabling - haven't decided how much grot action I'll have going on for this piece...tends to slow my already glacial progress once I start in on converting littl'uns
ldd - Upholstery reference was in regards to Dr H's freshly installed 'white leather' furnishings on his chaosified falcon The boyz aren't big on sitting - stay still for too long and you're likely to get grabbed by a dok.....
Skalk - Welcome back dude....and don't let me stop you
graven - Night of the un-living tread-head......
OK, small amounts of what could be termed progress in an alternate dimension....
First up, looted rhino enjinns...
Getting some rough colours down on the interior as I reckon it's going to be slightly tricky getting the crayons in there once it's together.
And the current state of the exterior...
The cockpit is undecided at the moment...although I am swaying toward the small one shown...albeit with a bit more body and plenty of cabling added. Main alternative at the moment is a senty cockpit...but to be perfectly honest I don't realy want to deal with the orkifying and painting of said item right now....
Thinking the side gubbinz on the left-hand side will be able to hold some variation of dakka for certain load-outs. Probably have a bit of tread-plate over hanging that part too....and just realised I forgot to add magnets to the top for adding a boom-gun if I should feel like it at a later date...think I can still remedy that...
Probably add a few random bits of railing, mainly to provide optional mounting points for dakka...
And maybe a small, lower platform at the rear....
And the half-trakk....
Still early days...front section hasn't been finalised yet, although I'm liking the piece I've got there right now. Need to get the driver sorted out so I can get the cockpit area in place in case I need to bring the front wheels back a bit...
Seen with two turntables in place, these will be for shhotas and rokkits, with plans afoot for a skorcha version, and possibly some kind of anti-airkraft dakka.....
Turns out the standard round bases fit slightly loosely into the Russ turret hole, providing a useful base for turret options...
Ok, that's all for now....heading back to the mekshops now.....
22619

I think the first needs a little panache, something bold to match the scope of the loot!
something akin to the crown you had back up here:
Love the halftrack, it would be cool to see those wheels moved back and some menacing wheel wells built around them...more spikey bits!
9910
Post by: CommissarKhaine
Loving that half-track! Have you considered adding a second set of wheels in the front?
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
graven - Cheers amigo. I'm excited about both builds, probably because I've not really touched any vehicles for a long time...
Zeke - Panache? Da boyz are more familiar with pan ache - slapstick cooking implements around the head
Alas, the meks went straight back to work last night and are using the little grot bit...
They also put the wheels in place on the half-trakk, in the position already seen...
CK - Thanks, and good to see you back buddy. Hope everything's good with you and we'll see some of your work soon....
I didn't think of that...might have worked well on this build, but as with Zeke's comments, the meks didn't actually wait for any feedback before getting the rivet-guns out.
So, half-trakk done apart from the dakka options I believe....
And back to the mekshops.....

Everything's... good enough . Between some rough patches, the birth of my daughter, and getting sidetracked, I believe it's time to resurrect the squeaky waagh!. Hey,I even painted a bit here and there
I didn't think of that...might have worked well on this build, but as with Zeke's comments, the meks didn't actually wait for any feedback before getting the rivet-guns out.
The sign of the true mekboy . Love how it looks, and you could still add a second set of wheels if you wanted to... Not a necessity though, I like the look as-is, especially from the front. Is the plasticard bit on the front for a license plate? It looks like a nice place to add some random insulting text

Good spot, that is indeed a license glyph-plate..I'll wait till it's coloured in a bit (oh look, icicles on Satan's nose....) before deciding what's suitable....
Llama - Thanks man. No such thing as a 'regular' vehicle in Upzag's gang Pretty sure it's not the largest buggy I'm working on.....
Dr H - Cheers, I did indeed consider off-centre cabs, I'm a definite fan of asymmetrical orky stuff, but for soe reason switched it back to centre-line as I applied glue
Selvaggio - Nice to see you again. Luckily for you I've been a bit slack recently, so not too much to catch up on Moar spiky bitz? I was thinking about spiking up the mud-guards, but then decided I quite liked the plain look....Spikes and barbed wire can always be added later though
So, rokkit launcher 'sorted'....

Ok, tiny bit of work on the looted wagon....
Bit of protection for the grot driver to help prevent him being bashed on the bonce too many times by over-enthusiastic boyz....base for one dakka-point....still wondering about options such as boarding planks, have a couple of ideas, but not sold on any of them yet... also thinking about whether to have a small platform at the rear, midway down - or perhaps an attachment point for parts of the old sprue trukk/land train for those old-timers who may vaguely recollect that from way back in the blog....

Dakka-point 1 completed and struts in place for dakka-point 2.....rear platform added - possibly get some chains added to that for extra support
Magnet on the bottom of platform for hooking up to the old sprue land-train modules.....

Looking good!
Is that a British WWI tank under the chimera top? I'd add a robotic torso on the turning plate and grabba claws in stead of sponsons

Sorry missed the supports can see them now ……….. well just
Love the flyer I also would love to know what the green thing is or at least was
Like the chimera top on the tank what scale is 1/72 or 1/48 scale
Don't know where you mean to add the chains for support little baffled by that to be honest
How many sections are there to be in the land train then

Gits - Cheers my friend!
Dr H - Thanks. Good question It's been lying around in bits for a good while now....I believe it was a modern German apc/missile launcher?
dstein - Cheers Dave!
Time you got some vehicles going
graven - Gracias amigo!
CK - Thank you!
It is indeed the venerable Mk I. Hmm interesting...there's possibilities there....
ldd - That's alright mate, you can barely see them in those pics.
Well, see above for best guess at present
1/76, the 1/48 scale Mk I makes a reasonable stand-in for a land raider.....
Chains have been nixed, but they would have been from roof (or struts on roof) down at angle to back of lower platform....
They're from a while back when I was making stuff out of sprue, think there's three sections with wheels or tracks, plus a couple of others that haven't got that far yet....
Build on looted wagon is complete, crayons have been sighted in the art-grot's grubby little fingers...

A suitable cacaphony of colours. Like it . I used to have a 1/48 scale MkI to turn into a land raider someday. Then GW came out with a land raider

Wow. When your Mek loots a vehicle, he means it. Fantastic work as always, and I'm still baffled at how you get your paint to look so old and beaten and your rust to look so perfect. My jealously is boundless/ And yes, I have tried to replicate it many, many times.
Amazing work.

Post by: monkeytroll
Gits - Cheers! The boyz aren't too bothered about re-painting whatever bits they've salvaged in most cases Although that does mean there's an exponential increase in the time taken for colouring on my part
CK - Thanks bud. I sincerely hope it got looted if not used as a land raider then
Skalk - Well, it all depends on how much of the original vehicle is intact when it gets back to the mekshop Someday I'll try and put up more details of what I'm doing with the paint...it tends to get forgotten as I keep trying different things each time, and the long pauses between colouring sessions don't help
Ok, long time no dakka...
Went to Salute with my old man a few weeks back, had fun spent far to much money and managed to completely miss seing the painting comp...
Lots of goodies procured which will slowly work their way onto dakka...a nice haul from zinge and a few bits from anvil, which were the expected outlets to receive my cash...some dystopian legion tankettes and hover bikes, couple of hovercraft, various useful terrain bits, a few interesting models for salvage and looting, and a few pieces of laser-cut terrain from Sarissa....fair bit of this stuff from various companies there, seems to be the big thing at the moment.
My old man was really interested in the terrain (he was only looking for a few vikings for a dio himself) and expressed an interest in building some, so I bought a small settlement pod for him to play with and this is what he did with it:
Screwed and glued small hinges to the doors so they'd open. He just gave it some rough washes to give it a bit of colour. I'll probably base it at some point.
I've only had a quick play with the stuff myself, but the kits seem nice and easy to work with.
A set of low steps, which handily is pretty close to the level of my terrain based on the label rolls. Took just a couple of minutes to punch the pieces out and assemble them...although obviously they haven't been sanded. The structure is stable as is, just pushed together. And you get the bonus of some interesting shapes left over after you've removed the cut-outs
The catamarhino has had a bit more colour placed on it and the trailer...but stupidly was left too close to a bookcase and has been battered in the course of duty....repairs are needed on the two dakka mounting points at present.....
But mainly I've been working on some flyers...
Wings are so last year.....
Turbo-fans are magnetised, at some point I may look into some magnetised wings just for fun....
Working on the various dakka options a the moment....
And sticking with the variable lift designs another little concept...
Bit big for a 'kopta.....bit small for a fighta....
And also :
Dose beakies never put 'nuff intakes on dere flyerz...
Dey never fort ov stikkin' a trench on front either....
Ahhh...not air-mobile trench warfare then....
And as a meager bonus a few shots from Salute (I also forgot to take pics for about 98% of the day )
Couple of displays using flats.
A 15mm game called Hammer's Slammers, based on the books by David Drake if I recall correctly. Nice board, and I have some ideas for some of those hovercraft....
That's all for the moment...now I need to go catch up on what you lot have been doing.....

Dr H - Cheers buddy!! As the blog is titled Cyborks & Flyboyz I decided I really should get some more boyz in the air....
vik - originally it was going to be jets, but I figured props were more fitting for this one....
Graven - Yeah, been meaning to use them for a while...came from an Avngers Iron Man Assault Craft (!), various wing parts will be seen in other vehicles soonish...
Anvildude - I do have an x-wing on the cards, although this isn't it....but that has made me realise that the cockpit is a good fit for one, should have spotted that sooner.....
Edit:
vik - snuck in there, interesting but wrong in this instance

Gits - I'll pass on the compliments.
Going to be fun building them
Yeah, only thing I knew I was going to grab for sure was the bike tank....then just looked at the list of bits and kept adding stuff to the pile Looking forward to some of the stuff he's got coming soon too, not least the led kits.
Selvaggio - Cheers buddy!
Not much of an update, but spent a couple of hours in the wee hours checking out some of the laser-cut terrain bits....
Food booth from WarMill....looks suitable for Mega-City One....
Packing container from WarMill
Portable Utility Pod from WarMill....minus the base supports and steps atm. The roof piece I used turns out to be the base, there's no detail etched on the roof piece, but it has holes to allow another couple of struts to go in, which explains the slightly awkward look of the top of the vertical front struts....
Basics of the Explorer pod from sarissa...needs glue to hold this one in place....
A few gantries from Sarissa, along with the basic shape of a silo.....
Easy, enjoyable builds with plenty of scope for customisation....

the only downside with laser cut stuff is the details tend to be too thick...like that door angles...hmmmm
and I want to see how you will fit that all to your general orkyness^^

I think for gaming purpose these are a great idea, but as my good man Vik mentioned some of it does look oversized and flat at times.
However once it has been monkeyed I am sure all that will become unnoticeable

So finally managed to escape from the galley where Neil has been holding Scarp and myself......
Got caught up in that silly game known as RL and lost any hobby urges for a while there, but hopefully back for good now. (Iknow, I know, I've said that before )
Agree with all the comments about the terrain, all more suited to gaming than modelling, but should provide a good basis for a variety of things, and no doubt they will get used as templates too. The walkways wth the holes in will likey get some sort of mesh over the top to prevent the whole 'massive hole in the floor' thing they have going....
And a few pics of minor works that have been carried out during my time in the warp, just as a warm-up like....
Added the basic body shape and the twin tail booms, still working on designs for the tail iself, and figuring out the engine gubbins....
Cockpit for the looted necron flyer, thinking this one will have a painted canopy as there'll be too much work involved in getting a 'real' cockpit in there when it's in situ....and that will likely stall the project once again...want to try and get some stuff finished for a change
Moved the tilt-rotor flyer on from the concept stage. This was also going to get a panted canopy, but I've decided to leave it open now. Also realised after construction that I'd missed a trick at the wing/body junctions and should have had a disc at that point to cover where the turning plastic will scrape away paint...it's a bit more fiddly to add that now I've noticed it, and don't really want to pull the wing structures apart as I don't think I'll get them back in place with a good strong join.
Changed the tail design, and started to add some gubbins to the engines. I've as decided to add further support at the exhaust end to raise the craft higher off the ground in it's landed configuration...also means the jets could be used for VTOL without clogging in the ground
A few boys wwith some colour on...not much and not applied in the smoothest possible way, but nevertheless it's a touch of colour One oldish boy, one driver (for the ping-pong bat trukk if anyone can remember that far back) and one hastily put together boy to get back into things.
If you cast your minds way back when you may recall the hill-billy style buggy, it finally made it into the spray shop...
So far it's had a heavy skrag brown drybrush, followed by a runefang drybrush, followed by a liberal sepia wash that I let pool in certain areas. Should provide a nice base for further weathering. And there's a quick copper coat on a few areas - in caseyou didn't notice...
And also started on a pat-wagon for Dredd, so far had a black spray and some rough highlights applied, once there's another colour in place it'l make another appearance.
Not a huge amount to show for the time lost in the warp, but hopefully it'll count as proof of life.
Even though I wasn't interested in building anything my magpie genetics have meant there's been a few supply drops during the off-time, and several KS packages have turned up at various points, so who knows what things could be appearing later......
Thank you for flying Air Dakka, please exit the flyer now and make your way toward your destination, which you should find approximately 800 metres below you......

Wow, thanks guys, good to be back
Moltar - He kept me there with promises of lots of shinies to cut and chop........Thanks man!
vik - Not quite as elegant as the viktorian stuff, but then da boyz ain't renowned for their elegance I'm just hoping to get some decent progress on them before getting caught up in the other dozen flyerz zooming in my head. Err......
Gits - Thanks buddy. But to be fair that's not a huge amount of work for 6 months
LDD - Old stuff always gets worked on.....just gets slower as more shiny things get built...er, start to get built....
The pat-wagon is from Mongoose Games, part of my KS stuff - still have a hover version to come....
Arakasi - Thank you! Well, I see you have a little 'side project' in the wings, general hobbying is going to take a hit while you look into that
Llama - Great to be back mate. As with most of my KS choices, the pat-waon was chosen as potential loot material And I'm sure the eagle could be Aquilafied for Imp use too, Inq chimera just sitting there waiting to be had.... It was touch and go when I got it, but I'm liking the idea of vehicles for MC-1, so ha to ave at least one Justice dept vehicle - at the moment the hover version is earmarked for da boyz, but that may well change once I get it in my grubby little graspers.
dstein - Cheers amigo! If Billy-Bob- Jo and Billy- Jo-Bob manage to get it started it beats the heck out of a golf cart
Sageheart - Thank you and happy to be back. Good to see you too, feels like you were awol for a while just before I was
weety - Always happy to have young ladies jumping up and down shouting my name It's Saturday, why are you up at half six?
neil - We were content for a while mate, but after a bit the jumpers stopped smelling of the girls that had worn them, and to be frank, that was all that was covering the smell of the mattresses, those are in a terrible state...
Oh there are all sorts of goodies squirreled away, for a variety of purposes - some (brace yourself!) may even just be painted up as is At some point I'll sort out the JD stuff into groups to start work on, but for now it'll be a few random bits, and probably more citizens and the like.
RL is kinda like an all-encompassing virtual reality that sounds really good but lets you down in so many ways but is still really difficult to stop playing
dog - You played it too huh?
PDH - They're probably used to you jumping up and down yelling random stuff at your work though But thank you
Glad you approve - it wasn't feeling quite right to me until I tried dropping the nose.
Nah, think I'll start a new character
Dr H - Oh I'm sure there's been plenty of madness whilst I've been in the warp And thanks.
I'm all warm and tingly inside now after that welcome back
Or possibly i'm being targetted by a bowel disruptor on a low setting.....
So, what can I show you today...?
First, the tilt-rotor..
Added landing supports to the engines and now pondering:
Have the body tilted back with a landing strut where the tail ends now like above...
Or with the nose dropped like above....
Possibly with struts at either fore or rear or both...
Was originally planning a turret type thing on top of the body, but I think I'm going to go with dual gun pods either side, just in front and below the wings. Maybe another set under the body or on top
Thoughts on the two variations for the 'at rest' gratefully heard, I'm still umming and ahhing about it, but I'll think about cracking on with the dakka in the meantime....
Picked up a few paints today and couldn't help myself, so here's another koncept from the mekshop:
Was originally thinking a more open rotor at the rear, but then noticed that the lift engines from a Dropzone Commander ship fitted in there quite nicely, think that'll be the one. The rotors will be larger, possibly multi-bladed.
And another koncept for a buggy based on a hovercraft from Aintsy castings - mentioned hese a while back, part of the Hammer's Slammers game seen at salute:
Maybe more of a dakka-on-a-stick in place of the platform. Want a few of these to tie in with the hovercraft junka that sit half-finished out the back of the mek-shop Also looking at 'bikes' using a diferent design of air-cushion vehicle, but that's just a body on top of the vehicle atm
And lastly some minor changes to one of Antenociti's vehicles which will become a ground car for some Mega-City citizen :
Sleep tight y'all, don't let the bed-squigs bite....

i am a bit unsure about the landing gear... looks rather big and heavy...hmmm.... but i have faith
and i have to say...your amalgam of tau tech and orky gubbinz... it has a very late 30´s WWII alternate theme vibe to it... that really is a very aesthetic approach!!!

Liking the hovercraft (is it full of tentacles/eels?).
Car looks cool.
Not-Tau-any-more flyer is also good.
The tilt rotor; As Vik says the supports look a bit heavy and not terribly aerodynamic (not a problem for Orks I know).
How about little fold out legs (from the jets), like those on the Mars attacks UFOs?
I would also say, tail down. With a little foot/skid.

I would go with dual gun pods either side the top turret may be a little heavy even for Orks, like the fan on the Tau ship nice fit handy that
I have to say the Ork overcaft is a nice idea and rather fitting for the Green Skins, nice start and interested to see it orked up some more
I also have been considering purchasing the Antenociti's car for a while and was just looking at it the other day, although I am surprised to see it in such a normal state in your thread
I have played the RL game it is rather depressing full of glitches keeps crashing and very repetitive, I cant even change my dam character
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
Yes RL sucks, so many repetitive tasks, and the loading time! I have to lie in bed all night waiting for the next day to load. Its no wonder I'm up at 5:30 really. Or maybe I have a sleep disorder?
Nice work, I'm also getting a WW2 1930s mad scientist feel from the tau/ork thing. I love the ground car - I thought about getting one of those but all the smooth surfaces scared me off.

Post by: Llamahead
Tau ship reminds me of the Aircraft in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I prefer the nose up on the tilt rotor which also looks like one of the Nazi wunderwaffe craft well worth a look at for demented inspiration. I'd personally add the Dakka to the platform on the Hovercraft making it a Trukk sort of thing.

vik - Big and heavy it is I think they're just big old iron rings, sturdy enough to not get melted by the rockets during 'emergency' take-offs
Cool, that works for me! Just need to figure out the cockpit properly.....
Dr H - Eventually (when else with me ) I'd like a whole force that's mounted on acv's or the like....can play with the sharks then
Cheers.
They are heavy, and not very aerodynamic either
I wanted something heavy-duty to withstand the rocket exhausts, plus I felt it was coming together a little too neatly so far, looked too much like a production model, needed some 'clunk' added Idea added to databanks for future reference though.....
Think I'm leaning towards tail down too.
graven -
Squidbot - Not too many details on the wagon so who knows, it might be a contender for an actual finished piece.....
ldd - No dakka is ever too 'eavy for da boyz
Someday there'll be more......and yes, more wires....
Grabbed a few pieces form Antenociti's for use in the big meg, just as civvy background really, at some point in the dim future I may get round to doing some taken from the page, but these'll do for now.
weety - Oh don't get me started on the loading times!
Mad scientist all the way (With due respect to Dr H of course ).
Oh, but think about the shiny blends you could do across those curves
Llama - Pulp action orks ftw! It'll either be a small paltform with a dakka-man ready for shootin' stuff, or some kind of auto-gun...haven't decided which this'll get yet.
dstein - Thanks man. Always on the lookout for hovercraft types to loot.
Giraffe - Do it Do it Do it Do it Do it
Ok, your Sunday update:
Testing to check my plan for the bubble-nose trukk works:
Seems to be ok...and the fact I used tiny dabs of blu- tac to hold the struts in place means I can safely paint most of the underside of the struts and just glue centre and edges - that's nice as I was a little concerned at how I was going to hide the white plasticard from the other side of the bubble.
Pat-wagon:
Black pretty much done, first coat of red and yellow, Brother Bob popping by for scale
Unsure how I'm going to tackle the windows yet...blue gem effect?
Buggy:
Hillbilly orks getting a bit more attention:
Thinking a couple of differing metal bits, the details and then on to rusting...maybe a few oil spills first.
Random bits:
Rosie says "If your rivet gun goes kablooie, hammering with a feth-off big wrench is a good second best...."
And caught a traitor guard sniffing around:
So long and thanks for all the squigs.....

Nice job on the tube truck the window looks the bomb, paint work on the ping pongee buggy is really coming together well.
Judge truck has a fitting scheme and I would go blue for the windows or maybe a green.
Rosie did you get the bots and display piece, I did just for the bots to be honest
Did you convert the chest plate to chaos then ? It works quite well but have you considered altering the helmet a bit.

Post by: monkeytroll
Dr H - Thank you. Wasn't sure they were going to work as well as they hopefully will
Justice Dept is rollin'
Not grimy enough yet
Yep, didn't even want to convert this one
And yes, he is very shifty.
dog - Glad the nose bubble seems to work, I think that'll be a focal point on the finished piece.
Basing the scheme on the one on the Mongoose website as I have no colour references for any version of the pat-wagon. Blue...for now
I got two of the display sets in case I wanted to make a small squad out of the 'bots With the bonus of having another Maelee for conversion purposes, along with the version from the original KS
Yep...and nope
Moltar - Thanks dude! Hopefully some of the exciting things will actually make it to a finished state
Llama - I considered gloss black with a slight blue gem effect, but the main body is too black for that to stand out I feel. I'll try blue first and see how that goes. Not sure how a gloss finish will look on the side windows as there is a slight texture to the sides of the piece - as though it's been built up in tiny layers.
So first up a little bit of colour for you lucky people (not a lot, but don't knock any chance to see colour on this thread )
Pat-Wagon:
Added edge highlights to the red and yellow, put down some metal ready for a wash. Had to retouch some of the black on the body where excessive handling had rubbed some off Put a layer of Caledor sky on the glass. Will get minimal weathering except around the damaged fender.
Did notice when painting that I'd missed various clean-up tasks before diving in with the colour - missed a few air-bubbles, and on the back fender the lights are pretty messy -
And a few washes over the traitor:
Ouch - missed those mould lines too
Couple of ogryn washes, runefang drybrush, ogryn wash for the armour. Green then grey washes, with touches of flesh and sepia for the uniform. uUmber shade for the puttees, boots and gas mask. Yellow glaze on the eyepieces and gas fittings. Umber wash, runefang drybrush, blue wash on the gun. Baal on the hoses.
Few weeks back I saw an interesting looking kit at a local model show, but I'd already picked up a few bits by that point, so left it. Then went looking for it on the net this week and found one on e-bay:
Look at all those girders and the like
And it's worth mentioning the actual vehicle it represents - The Bagger 293, the largest vehicle on the planet :

What a beast
And I'm sure most who follow this thread are aware of it, but Skalk is running a junk pile terrain contest http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/563097.page
Go check it out, loads of interest, small piece, lots of fun to be had
I'm in, and will be making a couple of pieces, just to keep people guessing as to which is my entry (also handily providing me with options if my choice doesn't work out )
My starting pile of scrap:
Bits of broken cameras, mice, pens, wire, plasticard off-cuts and various other items....
Decided to use a minidisc as the base to fit in along some of my other bits, but found it was a mil or two larger than the 60mm base, so filed it down a bit first.
One piece gets a wall from matchsticks, and a pen gets sacrified to make up some oil drums. Now to figure out the ridges, could use some strips of thin plasticard, but I have another, more 'scrappy' idea to try first

What is this from??

Post by: monkeytroll
That's from the Judge Dredd miniatures game from Mongoose Games, got it on Kickstarter, don't think they've released it yet.

Yanno...
I can see the 3d printer lines throughout the entire vehicle. They went to production without even a simple acetone 'bath' to smooth out all the pieces.
Ugh. Just...ugh.

Post by: monkeytroll
I wondered if that was something to do with 3D printing, wasn't sure as I didn't know they got a smoothing bath after printing....

Good call on the excavator, lots of nice bits in there.
Good work on the rest there.
Look forward to what becomes of your junk...

The excavator looks awesome had a quick look at one for the minefield project read the price but then looked at its size yeesh that's a lot of model!

Post by: monkeytroll
Dr H - Yeah, it was bugging me that I didn't pick it up at the show, so indulged in a bit of retail therapy
Thanks! Me too
Llama - Yeah, that's a big ol' box it comes in, the finished kit is apparently a tad over a metre long!
So, it seems I haven't quite got my mojo back yet, spent large parts of the evening just staring into space, not even thinking about the models....but still got a little done. Apologies for the large amount of pics and explanations, but I'll need to refer back to these to give Skalk a full list of components
Onwards with the oil drums.....
First idea was to use some wire under strips of paper (cut from an ork flyer instruction booklet), was planning to smooth the paper over the wire and glue wire-side to the drum to give it a ridged look. Unfortunately I didn't think it through fully and used superglue for attaching the wire - this meant the paper was then too stiff to properly 'wrap' around the wire. So I glued the paper side to the drum and gave it a coat of pva.
For the second attempt I stripped some PC connector wire, was planning to wrap it 2 or 3 times around the barrel to get the ridged look. It needed to be long enough to go round the requisite number of times as it was proving difficult to keep single lengths taut enough.
It wasn't long enough....

that truck reminds me due to the scheme a hell lot of B.A Barrackus truck...worthy for an A-team any day^^
the new big excavation digger is awesome....eager to see what you will do with that...
the comps entry looks very promising...
but the bubble nose tank is something that actually made me sigh...cockpit looks so good!!! i almost hear tiefighter sounds in the background...

Post by: monkeytroll
OOPSIE...hit submit by accident.......
So...wire failed....decided to use the insulated wire from an old led, and use double strips....worked reasonably well, but not really straight enough Covered in pva after to help the appearance of ridges rather than external wrapping.
And for the third I just used different widths of paper strips. I didn't have enough left of the led wire to do another...oh well
Three different designs of oil drums so far. Any more will probably use different styles again.
And realised I should have scored some circles into the lids too, but hopefully they'll be covered in enough junk to not notice...
Cut up a plastic spoon for a support girder.
Cut up some plug covers to make up storage containers. Also visible is an attempt at using garden wire to make the oil drum ridges - that just wouldn't get snug enough against the pen to work.
Cut up some card packaging to make brackets (should have used that instead of paper for the drums really...), using the little tiny balls from a water filter as rivets, glued into guide holes. Theer's a shelf there made from half a 20mm square base.
The box I brush clippings, off-cuts and loose basing materials into. The detritus at the bottom is what I'll use for basing.
Cut up a used cotton bud for the pipe, put a small piece of mesh and a couple of bits of round sprue down, then glued on some of the ground cover around the wooden wall. This area will get some basic colouring done before it gets hidden behind junk.
The mini-disc had the central hole covered by some plasticard off-cuts and a bit of mesh, and the other two oil-drums got glued down.
And a quick lick of paint - you can clearly see how shoddy that ridge-work on the drum is - have to apply plenty of rust to distract attention from the sloppy build
Thanks for stopping by, please put a paw print on the visitor's wall on the way out....
Edit for vik due to my clumsy sausage fingers hitting submit part-way through a post
That's a whole other project bubbling away
A lot of things I reckon....mate at work asked if I was going to turn it into a big feth-off toxic waste carrier, and I had to say it was going to be turned into lots of things
We'll see, there's going to be some tough competition in this one
High praise indeed from vik...thanks

Looking promising.
Ruglud made some oil drums with sandwich ties for the ridges. Maybe give that a go.

All amazing really very resourceful I like the shelf idea hope to see a plant pot in there
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Dr H - Cheers! Yeah, that would give the look I was going for with the paper/wire combo. I did consider using those ties, but there was only one badly twisted one in my box, so.....
dog - Thanks! Well, what sort of mek would I be if I couldn't make use of the available resources for a variety of uses hey Unlikely, most meks aren't overly bothered by keeping plants near their junk piles, err..stock inventory. Except for the few weirdos messing with cyber-flora.
So....
Getting a feel for how some of the junk fits into place.
The makeshift bench is a piece of waste from a laser cut kit - get some useful shapes out of those. Sitting on top at the moment is part of a lensfinder from an old camera, and a small motor, possibly from the same source. Below that we have a piece of plug cover, a usb port cover and a block of plastic, which again I think comes from a camera...not absolutely sure on that one, can just remember the struggle I had removing the rods that went through it...
Against the wall there's a couple of good old cotton bud pipes, with a gear from an old scalextric car sitting atop the drum - a wheel from the same source i mainly hidden behind the girder. And there's a couple of boxes from plug covers beside the tyre.
Added some bits of card, wire, cut up brush protectors, sprue and part of a press stud to the view-finder to make it a bit more interesting. Also glued parts of it so that the spring was stretched out.
The USB cover got a hinge from a bit of insulated wire, a catch from tiny scraps of plasticard and a handle from some staples, hopefully turning it into a tool box of some kind.
Broken watches provided screws and cogs for the shelf, and an old pen proved to be a good source of plastic tubing for some cans. And sitting on the drum is a crude pulley formed from more discarded pieces from a laser cut kit. Turned out a little big for my planned use, I'll see if I can knock up something a little smaller before it gets used.
Bit of a keyring, more cut-up brush protectors and pen refills, random bits off a circuit board (from a kind of hand-held computer thingy), bits of match and a chain from an old tea-strainer get added before the first layer of basing materials get dropped all over the place.
Bit of colour and test placements. Added various bits of wire to the plastic block to add interest, another pen part, cotton bud pipe, insulation from a wire and a metal rod - that I think originally held a watch strap in place - added to the storage bin.

its work like this(plus the whole no time thing) that stopped me entering this competition, looking fantastic and the use of bits is inspiring

weety - I have the advantage that the interior of my boat looks like a junk pile, it's just having good reference materials Watches, calculators, any old appliances - I've been kicking myself because I had to replace my boiler just before my re-emergence on dakka, and I was so out of touch with my inner mek that I just junked the old one without carving it up
dstein - Cheers dude! I does like me a good bracket now an' then I had four pieces planned, and before I started I knew which was my planned entry - with two coming together and bits being piled for the others I'm no longer sure Plus there's still the possibility of finding 'that' piece of junk - found some stuff at work today that has me thinking in another direction
Radu Lykan - Ooh, new face - welcome
Hey don't be discouraged by other's work, there's always someone out there whose skill makes you feel humble - on Dakk alone there's a whole bunch of peeps who I look up to and whose work I don't come close to. It's sharing in their work and seeing what they do that helps us all grow as modellers (and maybe painters if you're into all that colouring-in stuff )
There's several categories to enter, the scale of the piece is easily accomplished in a couple of weeks - look through this blog and you'll see how slowly I work - but above all it'll get you a finished piece of terrain.
Go on jump in
No update today (see Radu, that's my kinda pace - can't even stick a bit of junk to another bit of junk in two days ), but a shout out to Rich from Green Stuff Industries for being an all-round good guy
I have the tentacle makers from Masque Miniatures, as some of you will be aware , but had been thinking about getting the GSI version for extra mix'n'match fun, and because their design nicely negates the need for something solid to use as a rest/support. I had ordered a set, left it a few weeks before tracking it as I knew customs like to grab my US packages and sit 'em on a shelf for a while
When I did track it I found it had been delivered a couple of weeks previously, but had not made it to my desk I contacted Rich to see if he could get any form of POD from USPS, as their site didn't seem to like us Europeans using it He had little succes and was tryingt o see if Paypal had any thing about 'delivered' packages that go missing. I didn't hold out any hope of that and told him I'd re-order and asked if I could get a signed delivery. He came back to me and said he had a set with cosmetic damage to the outside only, which he didn't want to send out to customers, but would get it to me for cost of postage
Mentioned because it arrived today, and I mailed him to let him know I had them and would put in a good word about his service
Away for business tomorrow night - wonder what bits I can scavenge from the hotel

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe
I want one of those Dredd trucks. It looks perfect for my Arbites. Is it similar scale?
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Dr H - Nothing to see here, just some old junk
The GSI version is more convenient as you don't need to have a nice solid block to square up against, it's more self-contained.
vik - Cheers bud! Don't think any of my otherideas will be ready so it's going to be one of those two pieces....
graven - Well, I had fun with the Masque Minis version, I'm sure I'll have more with the GSI one
Ruglud - Yeah, that was the look I was going for, but with only one twisted old tie I had to look elsewhere These can be orky made barrels
And cheers!
Skalk - It is - see below, but as Brian pointed out, the texture on the sides shows artefacts from the 3d printing of the master. I have noticed that although I've had mine a while now (hell, I've managed to get colour on it ) it's not up for retail yet. maybe, hopefully, possibly, they've had second thoughts about putting that master out for retail?
Some arbites and a waving marine for scale reference:
So, mojo is still pretty much MIA, progress everywhere is slow
On a personal note, I'm now aware of why my mojo is slow in re-appearing - I've been diagnosed with depression, prescribed anti-depressants and referred for counselling. So, I'm guessing progress will continue to be slow for a while yet.
I will persevere with hobby stuff, but fair warning that updates will likely be less spectacular and even more random than they were before, as my focus is even more fragmented than my magpie genes normally allow for.
So, with that in mind what small random progress has actually occurred recently?
Very little on the possible junk piles, but there's no way I'm going to be completing anything other than the first two pieces, so it'll definitely be one of these that gets to be my entry.
Just noticed the gubbins from on top the 'bench' is missing in that pic Plug cover storage, scalextric wheel, cog and motor in place and painted. Other random assortment of junk still getting coloured. Verdigris on either piece doesn't look that bright in RL, but there'll be more weathering to both pieces once all bits are in place anyway to help bring things together.
Put finishing touches and started in on the p-word for one of the terrain pieces, messing about with various weathering techniques. Used AK Interactive heavy chipping fluid on the main body, acts in a similar manner to the hairspray technique. Put down a heavy layer of powders on the door which I've fixed with artists fixative, going to try a thin coat over the top and rub away to reveal the rust effect underneath. With a little work that would work very well for heavy corrosion on it's own though.
And re-purposing an old piece of fantasy terrain, as I figured the circular shape fits nicely with most of the other ongoing terrain bits. Used to be a wooden hut based on cardboard, cut away the top layer of card and transplanted the whole thing onto a cd before starting to add on more gubbins.
Well, it's goodnight from me...and goodnight from squig.

That model is a pile of junk.

Post by: monkeytroll
Brian - Thanks buddy! Friends, family and close colleagues are all aware and supportive. Plus of course Dakka
I'll see what Ican do to keep the terrain coming - I think that's more likely to progress over some of the oher stuff at the moment, bu we'll see what occurs.
Dr H - Cheers! It's really down to which one feels more complete come the deadline, adding and painting the little bits of junk is going slowly.
Random is as random does..... (No, I don't know what I mean either )
Ah, I'm prepared for it to take a while, and to come in fits and starts.....
Theo - Thank you kind sir. For me it's definitely the modelling over the colouring, and I'll agree the boys have been a bit lacking in recent pages. Sure they'll appear at some point.....
Skalk - Glad to hear it
All those who PM'd me with support and advice - Thanks a lot guys. Much appreciated, and shows what a community we have going here
Not a great deal to report, junk piles are moving slowly so figured I show a few bits from some recent supply drops, just to keep things ticking over:
From Curious Constructs. I was going to call it a mule, but can't recall if that is it's name or if I'm just thinking of the dreamforge one..... A shot of it stuck together with no clean-up and one of the 'sprue'. Several of these waiting to go to various parts of the workshop
And also from Curious Constructs:
Gun carriage....
With gatling gun in place.....
And all the parts for the various options.
Shipping container from RustForge - hastily blu- tac'd together, with optional refrigeration type end-piece lying beside it. Have a few of these, so expect various states of rustiness to appear at some point....
The lovely Judge Minty charity figure, very nice. Scales well with the mongoose figures.
35mm Dredd from Dark World Creations - nice to have the choice of Mk I or Mk II Lawgiver
And a certain blue-skinned GI from the same company.
Ok, I'll try and have some proper updates next time round....
Be seeing you....

Post by: Theophony
Wow some excellent haul there , I really like that tracked carrier, I've got to look into those. MULE was something mark from dreamforge called his walker, but not sure if that's been around for a while, or a term used for that sort of getup.

Great. Now I'm going to look like a copycat. I've been building 5 of something incredibly similar for my Iron Hammers to 'count as' Chaos Spawn but it's going to be a mech assault vehicle instead of running some gibbering mass of flesh.
Great work on it so far though. It'll be interesting to see how your end result turns out.

I just saw the price on those, too bad I missed the kickstarter on them, I guess Ill just have to scratchbuild them.

Post by: monkeytroll
Theopony - Several hauls, I may not have been building but I was still buying and/or receiving KS goodies Yeah, MULE is a generic term, was used by Curious Constructs for these, but whe I posted I couldn't remember if that was real or not
Dr H - Yeah, they look like nce sculpts, I was hoping they might have scaled better with the mongoose stuff, but they'll be fun to paint - and I can still use that Mk I lawgiver on a mongoose judge The guns were what got me into that KS, but had to grab a couple of the mules when they were shown.
dog - Both from Dark World Creations (as it said in the post ). The Judge Minty was last year's charity mini organised by Frothers to raise money for cancer research - this year they're doing Tank Girl, along with Booga and Camp Koala, and also the tank! - Although the tank sold out in days. Sculpts by some talented dudes from within the business, donating their own time.
See here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/549844.page#6011318
Skalk - I'm sure yours will be unique to your Hammers Nice idea to use as a spawn too. I have a few, so results should be varied
Gits - Glad to have piqued your interest
Theo - Think most of my hobby budget has headed KS way over the last year or so - it's nice that I've forgotten I've blown a wodge of cash by the time things start dropping through the door

Oooh, yes, those 35mm Dredd and Rogue figures look great - may have to see if I can get me some of those at Salute next April. Judge Minty also looks excellent. That was the Frothers charity figure last year right? Wonder if they still have any available - they're doing Tank Girl this year I believe...
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Llama - It's the ones that offer a big bunch o stuff at knock-down prices that get me. " Well, I haven't got the time or space for all that stuff, but just look at the amount of shinies....."
GiraffeX - Is that these ones:
The DWC ones are more realistic, these have a more comic book feel with the uniform. Not sure if these are the Warlord ones mind, picked them up on e-bay when I was getting into the Dredd KS.
Ruglud - Yeah, they are nice, there's a third Dredd figure in their range, think it's Andeson off the top of y head, may have to pick that up if I ever get round to painting these....
Minty is a lovely figure, apparently Jon still has a few left, I grabbed another one after I'd gone for the tank girl ones. Missed the tank though Check the link in my previous post...
Onwards and upwards...
Let's start with a bit of junk...
Cut up the housing from the minidisc to cerate the sign. And used the dried out paint from a GW paint pot to make a container from.....so there is a use for their horrible pots, but not as useful as being usable paint
And finished up the other piece:
Aha..all ready for the competition I hear you cry....
Alas this was finished about 2 hours too late for entry.......
The other one was on time though Just.
I'll post pics of the entry later.
In other terrain news...
Quick n easy does it....Couple of bits from platformer/hex terrain stuck to a bit of plasticard, bit of sand and random crap. Dark blue, heavy, heavy drybrush of boltgun, some washes of macharius orange, greys and bleached bone drybrush to the base....and Bob's your platform.
And that'll do for today methinks.....

They aren't as good as your ebay find in my opinion I think DWC all the way they just need to make a lot more models....

Post by: monkeytroll
Gits - Thanks bud, but there's some top-notch competitors I'm up against. Not being paying too much attention to what they've all been doing, but I'm expecting good things from them...
dog - Cheers, old workbench was definitely the theme for that one.
Still a long way from the good ol' days yet...slow and steady does it....
Dr H - Thank you.
Giraffe - Ahh, right, I think of those as mongoose rather than warlord games. I have a shed load of those from the KS, with more still to come. I find they're a mixed bag, some sculpts I'm keen on, some not so much. The biggest drawback for me is that nearly all the judges carry Mk II lawgivers - I'd stopped picking up 2000AD by the time they were introduced, in my mind the original is the only version
So figured I'd put up pics of the junk pile which I did enter - didn't quite get it to where I wanted, but it'll do. Hopefully the pics are subtly different from the ones Skalk posts in the comp thread:
And complete list of parts for any interested:
Pile#1
Base - Epic (titan?) base
Wall - Matchsticks
Support Beam - Plastic spoon
Oil Drum - Pen, paper, wire
Storage Boxes - Plug cover
Wheel - Scalextric car
Motor - Scalextric car
Large Gear - Scalextric car
Shelf - 20mm GW base
Brackets - Paper
Rivets - Beads from water filter
Pipes - Q-tips
Rag - Tissue paper
Pipe under Motor - Inside of pen
Sign - Minidisc surround
Rusty Container - Dried paint from GW paint pot
Electric Bit - Sprue and wire
Ground Cover - Scraped from bottom of box that cutting/filing etc is done over
Assorted Bits - Broken watches and cameras
Pile #2
Base - Minidisc
Oil Drums - Pen, paper, insulated wire
Bench - Push-out 'sprue' from MDF terrain
Chain - Tea strainer ball
Piece on Bench - Camera part and assorted wires
Large Piece on Ground - Camera part with wire, press stud, cut up brush protectors, sprue
Container - Plug cover
Pipes - Q-tips, ballpoint pen, wire insulation, rod from camera part
Storage Box - USB cover, staples, wire, offcuts of plasticard
'Chain' on ground - Keyring
Electrical Gubbins - Camera part
Large Screw - Plastic screw, possibly from a camera...
Ground Cover - Scraped from bottom of box that cutting/filing etc is done over
Plus assorted offcuts of plasticard, brush protectors, mesh, matchsticks for ground detailing
And some more messing around with the AK Interactive chipping fluid:
This was how we left the door previously, covered in rust powders and sealed.
Couple of layers of chipping fluid, then rough coat of knarloc green, then a few touches of a slightly lighter green for tonal differences.
Once dried take a wet stiff bristled brush to it and give it a bit of a scrub:
After seeing the pic I think that could do with a bit more scrubbing...I may take a toothpick to it, but I think the fact I used a rough surface didn't help in this case...further experiments will have to be carried out. I'm wondering now how this might work with crackle paint.....
And tested it on a couple of oil drums too...
Couple of rusty painted drums.
Coat of chipping medium, then knarloc and a knarloc/bone mix roughly applied.
Once dried quickly run under some warm water then attacked with a toothpick and a stiff bristled brush.
The darker rust looks very good, lighter not so much, but that's down to the colouring. I'll maybe hit them up with a few washes for staining and perhaps a quick touch of powder before sealing, but pleased with the way that went.
Tried some retail therapy over the last few days - spent far too much on interesting looking toys, hopefully some will arrive before christmas. Hoping a steady supply of new shinies might help keep my motivation up....

Well, if you count individual pieces, technically I've got hundreds of projects on the go
Skalk has the various competition entires up on the blog now (barring a couple which are still incoming) :
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/210/563097.page#6345581
Check it out, there's some great stuff there, especially if you're a fan of rusty stuff. And public voting is open for your favourite piece. Not the best piece, but your favourite, go on, go have a peek and vote for something - PM Skalk with your vote. Go on, batman will love you!
Although to be fair, I suspect most peeps who follow my blog are already aware and checking it out
Edit: Thanks Gits! I was going for a pile that belongs to some mek, so he knows what's there, but just drops it in any old convenient place Or, based it on my workshop in other words

Dr H - Cheers!
I like to experiment with the stuff - saves having to learn how to use it with real skill
graven - Well, I'm just trying these out as I go....
Skalk - Excellent
So the holidays are upoun us, and for a change I have some time off over the period. I'll be hanging with friends mostly, trying to keep myself bouyed up - that and hopefully getting some sleep in, meds are really messing with my sleep.
But hopefully I'll spend a bit of time playing with toy soldier type stuff too. As mentioned above, I've been a bad boy and grabbed a bunch of shiny things that I really shouldn't have, and although the motivation is still somewhat lacking, there's a few ideas starting to swirl around.... Some orky related, some not so much so....
So, basically it's more supply drop pics in place of an update
First up a couple of bits from Antenociti's workshop:
Warthog Scout:
The hastily tacked together version is missing the mud-flaps, the gun 'turret' and the brass sheeting, but you get the idea. Was grabbing this stuff more because I liked the look of it rather than for anything specific - I've had a few vehicles before from Antenociti's so was expecting it to be big resin blocks that aren't ideal for chopping up and turning into something completey different.
I'm thinking I may just throw together a small force of 'future warriors' - completely un-related to 40k or other system, purely as a modelling/paintinf exercise. I had thoughts about using the Dreamforge troopers I have laying around doing nothing, or possibly some of the Statuesque Miniatures resistance gals (more shinies that I received today, no pics yet), or something else entirely...we'll see what occurs I guess
Harbadin AFV:
With the two turret options. The hull is a bit longer and about the same width as the Chimera main hull (without the tracks). Was thinking of similar uses to the above, but now I'm contemplating trying some Chimmy tracks attached to the side and using it as a variant...I'll go dig for spare track bits later..
Bear 4x4:
Was actually suprised to find this one had an interior, and optional tops, not paying enough attention to the blurb and just looking at the pretties when I got it I guess The hastily blu- tac'd version is a bit wonky due to the haste and the tacking, not the model. thought this was a lovely chunky model since I first saw it, and now I know it has an interior and options I'll have to ponder for a while over what it'll eventually become....
All lovely kits well worth checking out, and Antenociti has some lovely stuff coming out at the moment if these sort of vehicles tickle your fancy. And yes, I have purchased more, again we'll look at those later
And grabbed a couple of interesting looking items from Hi-Tech Minis too...
Xyster jetbike:
Grabbed this with Lootin' in mind as I liked the look of the big intake front end, unfortunately, like the Dystopian Legions steam bike it has the legs moulded in place. Not sure I want to go to the bother of hacking those away, so I suspect it may get corrupted by the forces of chaos instead.
Eclipse land Copter:
Meant to pick up a couple of their figures, but went for this instead. Again, the moulded in pilots may limit some of it's conversion potential - but for gamer's looking for alterantive speeders this is probably pretty cool. Maybe it'll turn to chaos, maybe it'll develop an enclosed cockpit, maybe the different parts will end up in different places (I do like those engines)..who knows? Certainly not me at present.
And have to say I was unimpressed by the flight stand for this one. Lovely base, but the clear plastic pole - well, let's be brutally honest and say it was a hastily cut bic biro shall we....
Had several more shiny things turn up yesterday and today, but not had a good look/photo session with those yet, including the above mentioned resisitance figures and some space monkeys from AT-43 - specifically the flyer things which will definitely getting some attention from the meks. There's some stuff still incoming too, from a very wide selection of sources, some for lootin', some because they look like they could be fun to play with, and a couple just because they looked like nice figures that I might try to actually paint rather than chop up
Well, I'd best be off and try to come up with something constructive rather than just more supply drop pics for next time....
But before I go....
Another gentle reminder to go check out Skalk's Junk Terrain comp:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/240/563097.page#6348273
27 entrants over 4 categories, fantastic turn out, go and have a look-see. And then please feel free to send Skalk a PM voting for your favourite piece - not the best built or painted, but just the one you like.
And of course, if you like it, feel free to go and actually vote in their gallery too, sure they'll appreciate it.
G'wan, g'wan, g'wan....
Edited for the worst of the spelling I spotted.....

I thought I bought everything but you take the trophy Monkey even stuff I have looked at you have bought LOL
I was checking out those Hi-Tec jet bikes for Ork rides but glad I never did as the rider is moulded in WHY ?
The Antenocitls Warthog and Bear 4X4 I have they are great models and the options on the Bear is worth the investment alone
Well, have fun mate and looking forward to see what you do with this lot, hope the sleep comes soon mate it can take time to settle.

Antenociti's Workshop has some of the nicest stuff I've seen hopefully when finances allow I'll pick some bits and bobs up from there. I've heard rumours they were planning to go 6mm and I'll be all over that!.

dog - Indulging in some retail therapy innit?
Yeah, I thought they'd make great orky bikes, oh well, a bit of khaos now and again never hurt anyone. Apart from those virgin sacrifices. And those guys who couldn't handle possession. And those dudes that got melted that one time. And...
Very impressed with the Bear, but now not sure what to do with it, obviously hadn't clicked through all the pics to notice the various options....
Llama - I've long been a fan of his stuff, the line-up for next year has some awesome pieces. Oh yeah, I can imagine you would be if he adds 6mm
Ok...what have we got today children?
First off I decided to have a look at this 3D printing lark, grabbed a couple of bits from Shapeways - designed by malika2 - to check out.
Buzzsaw (I got 5, buzzsaws are like dakka...) and a set of spiky gauntlets. Went for frosted ultra detail to see what the quality was like, pretty impressive. Quick wash on one of the gauntlets to help show detail, and even managed to get some actual paint on a saw
Next up, another piece from Antenociti's....
The Zebu land cruiser, another lovely chunky vehicle. I've actually primed this now, but then couldn't decide on going for a nice military green scheme or urban. I may have to get another just to do both Then I can decide what to do with the other vehicles....
I mentioned I picked up some space monkeys too, specifically some of these...
Always thought they'd make a good base for an orky flyer, and have several ideas on where to take them.
This being the general direction I'll take the first one in....
May manufacture some plasticard wings in a similar style, may use those....
And on the subject of flyers...
What mek wouldn't turn a sub into a flyer? Not this one certainly
Although I think forward swept wings will work better here. Pretty sure I have some fans about the right size for the tubing, I'll cut those down a bit before adding jet nozzles. Again, I may use plasticard for the wings, don't think the dakka-jet ones quite work. And need to work on the 'cockpit' first anyway, decide whether it has servo-grot or cybork pilot....
And a little progress on the looted necron flyer...
Cockpit in place, started on support work around the wing roots, and started on the tekno-gubbinz that prevents the machinery phasing out. That caused a few screams and a lot of giggling during the protoype test flights....
And even put a little bit more of that paint stuff on this old fella..
Probably only those of you with long memories will recall the necron flyer and the looted wagon...which means it looks like I've done loads to everyone else
Have a good Christmas everyone....hope Sanity Klaws puts some interesting gubbinz in your stockings....

Those flyers look amazing!
That space monkey flyer (where is that from again?) turned to an Ork flyer really reminds me of those 1950 cars, very raygun gothic!

I swear it's like looking at my own collection great conversion work mate as usual although I can't see that sub flying

Submarine plane is win. All planes should also be submarines in case of emergency sea landing! It also works because they are orks. Orks are supposed to improvise and adapt whatever's available.

Err, long belated Christmas wishes to y'all
Gits - Thank you my man, but I'll take above average
Dr H - Cheers Doc. Yeah, it's pretty cool, now I just have to find something cooler to turn it into
Malika - Thanks, someday they may look even better when they're finished. And if they ever get a lick of paint......
The space monkey plane is from AT-43, a discontinued game, but if you look around you can find some good bargains on the stuff. A bonus was a lot of their pieces came with cargo containers for scenery in with whatever it was.
ldd - Except I at least start something with all my bits 'Course it'll fly, Old Mek Broken Legz says it will. It's just a case of when........
graven - still here, not much changes apart from the level of the outside world It all looks a bit lower down out there at the moment....
weety - Abso-bloody-lutely! Also handy to have subterranian mole capability in case of emergency terrain crash landing - alos known as 'landing' by da flyboyz
Skalk - What, half-built and unpainted Funny coz it's true.
Well, it's been a while...certainly wasn't the best christmas ever, what with my state of mind, and waking up christmas morning to a text saying a friend had died in the early hours....
OK, that's the obligatory wallowing in self-pity over for now...let's talk models....
First off (and very late I know), huge, huge thanks to all those who voted for me in Skalk's excellent Junk pile competition....you can remember that far back, right?
I was chuffed just to have actually finished a competition piece on time, big bonus to have placed in my category, and bonus-bonus to get the Daemon Prince vote...Cheers y'all
Not masses of progress to show here (shock, I know ), but a couple of pics to try and start the flow going again......
Few more details added to the necro-loot-flyer:
There's been miniscule amounts of colour managing to get close to some of the other pieces, but nothing worth showing yet.
Did start work on a couple of bike concepts that have been kicking around in my head for a while now. Been wanting a small section of the boyz to be mounted on hovercraft to go along with the hover-junka that got started a couple of years ago....(no, no progress there.... ), and the concept buggy from a page or so ago....
A couple of 15mm hovercraft seemed like ideal start points, one from Ainsty Castings as part of the Hammer's Slammers range, and the other from....I forget for now...I will get back to you on that as I want some more anyway.
I do have better dakka planned for that - I know the old-skool bike dakka fits quite nicely across that body, put I seem to have temporarily mis-placed my one. Once I've attached that I'll mess around to see if it requires exhausts/propulsion of some sort, possibly just some exhaust pipes out the back of the body, possibly along the sides...
Old-skool snake boy I got from Skalk seemed da ideal boy for da job. He'll get a better arm than that though...probably basics of the dakka are there, figure a multi-barreled cannon is as good as twin-linked Just a bit of choppin'n'gubbinz to get the fit right. Quite like the idea of the jets as propulsion, but again, that'll be the last piece to be finalised, once the rest is built (yeah, yeah...finalised and me...I know it's a hard concept )
Other things have been happening though....
My hobby stuff has always been an escape and therapy for me (duh, that's why it's a hobby, yeah?), and I've been trying hard to get back into it as I know there's some release in there for me that I need right now. So what do we all do when things just don't seem to be working out...switch it around a bit. And so the orkses are taking a bit of a back seat for now. They're not disappearing from my radar - there's far too many of them scattered across the boat for that to happen anyway I'm just not planning (and I use the term 'planning' in the loosest possible sense you understand) to build any more at the moment.
There's still a shed load of projektz in various states lying around, and I'll continue to noodle away at bits and pieces here and there (mainly the v-hickular stuff rather than da boyz) so don't worry, the greenies will not be ignored. But I feel I need a shift of focus to help me, and so I'm returning to my first love.....Chaos.
And will therefore go excavating in the dakka-depths to ressurect my lost and damned thread...possibly even this very day.
See you around........
edit: I forgot one thing....I don't usually get much hobby stuff at Christmas (maybe the odd novel now and then) as no-one ever believes me when I tell them I'll take whatever model from whatever army/range...it doesn't matter, I'll find a use for it. This time round my brother passed me a box with a "bit of a punt, this one, not sure if you're still into it.." Open it I did, and found a copy of Warhammer Online - a collectors box set no less. Now, to be hinest I've not even opened the disc box, not even sure if it's still running (?), but I was chuffed to bits with the two hard-backs that came with it - a background story comic, not bad, but even better a lovely 'Art Of...' tome, which was very cool indeed. And it also contained a mini...an orc warboss with gobbo sidekick no less, characters from the game....
Bonus all round

Sorry you've been dealing with sad news and a less than happy state of being. I suppose we all suffer through those from time to time. Still, you have friends here who would be more than willing to distract you from your mundane troubles for a while by oohing and aahing over your amazing work.
I love the lamp-head hover biker... but I think it'd be funnier if there was a typical elongated ork neck connecting the lamp to the body. Humor, Ar-Ar!!
Nice to have you back!

MT's back! Sorry about news; it's always a bit of an elephant in the room, and "sorry" sounds rather hollow. Still, good to have you once more. A miracle that you haven't floated away, all things considered. Great when family totally nail it, isn't it? Looking forward to more madness, certainly looking to you for inspiration

Long-lost replies........Calling friom the nether-world
Gits - Thanks man - although the desire flitters and sputters I know its the modelling that helps me keep focus, and glad to have such a great group of supporters in Dakka.
Elongated arm-neck for a future lamp-'ead noted
Doc - Did look tidy - it's taken a couple of knock really. I'd say that's the problem with having so many half-finished projects cluttering up the place.....but they'll take even more space when they're done --they'll need display space then
graven - Well I popped in then headed straight over to the dark forges.....ohh...sorry, probably haven't been that inspiring this last year
ldd - Cheers - it did get better and brighter towards the end - typically as the world around us grows darker and colder
Llama - well, it probably wasn't enough...but there'll be more, never fear.
Gorlock - Thank you - inspiring someone else is the highest praise we can get as modellers All my ideas are there to loot....except those speshul ones behind the dresser....those are mine alone. And I'll have to check out your work....not being doing enough keepin' up with peeps this last year....
So, on a personal note, I am in a better place than I was, my therapies were a great help in getting me to get a handle on my issues, and how to cope going forward. Positive Thanks Jo and particularly Steph I'm not all better - I'm not a happy, shiny person...but I'm doing far, far better than I was, and hope to keep improving. Thanks also to all the support I got from you guys - the PM's I got from people offering words and support and their experiences....wow, it was...emotional. Cheers everyone
So, I hear you ask...I'm sure you didn't venture back from the Dark Forges of Chaos, and the allure of Slaaneshi, just for a quick "I'm getting better..."
Indeed not. Oue inestimable Scientist, Dr H has recently won the latest LOER terrain competition, and so has thus presented his challenge.....
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/643658.page Making the Extraordinary from the Ordinary.
I bid you go forth, peruse his words, contemplate his desires, spread the word of this errand, and sally forth to your respective foundries, caves, workshops, forges, lairs and design studios to bring forth some mighty entrees....err, entries...sorry, tad hungry there.
I come bearing this mission to this very thread as I believe it falls back to the meks to make this particular piece I have in mind, and therefore feel it should be built here, under the watchful gazes of the servo-grots, rather than the dark cherubim of the forges.
As a teaser....
The dreaded Mk IV Warmster Tank, this one fitted with the awe-inspiring Goliath Sonic Cannon.....Ladies and Gentlem I present the 'Roar of Blessed'....
Or....you know....that just might be some randomly assembled bits that I plan to use for something else entirely......guess we'll have to wait and see what the meks want to build....

So, you've probably seen the first part of this over on the LOER 14 thread already, but here goes anyway....
Paper wrapped around the tube to help hie the spiral seams that give away the fact it's a cardboard tube...normally I'd use thin plasticard, but I'm looking to source all parts from recycled goods for this one, so paper it is. In a similar vein I used pva soaked kitchen towel to texture the disc rather than treadplate textured plasticard. I gave it two layers, then tried to add texture by pressing against some aluminium mesh...not a great success, so you'll see plan B in a mo...
Cut an angle out of the brush holder and glued it to the dessert cup, along with the elbow bend, then filled the top with a screwtop lid off of some random container and part of a plastic eyehole used for putting, well, eyeholes in plastic sheeting. The white ring atop the elbow bend is a disc divider from a pack of blank discs....the kind of thing I made a landing pad out of previously.
A couple of circles cut out of card (blu-ray packaging in this case) provided a roof to put between the card tube and the dessert cup.
Plan B - rust it to gak and back. A heavy (overly heavy) coat of silver had gone on top of the tissue and did not look pretty (may have been a case of squeezing a dropper bottle too hard whilst above the actual surface to be painted, may not have been. Whose to know?), so that got covered in a haphazard mix of brown red and orange. That in turn got mainly coveed in some good old crackle paint. Once that had done it' magic there was a bit of sepia and flesh washing, and a little bit of yellow drybrushing....
In othe news...Salute.
Went, saw a lot of stuff (not everything) bought some stuff - managed to avoid spending to much this year, and wasn't weighted down with various bags for the trip home That in itself impressed me
I have a gallery with around 200 shots here.... http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-30344-46616_Salute%202015.html, go look there for the main course, here's an appetiser...
Go on...that's whetted your appetite surely....
Troll Trader had a huge clearance table filled (with more underneath) with tubs of stuff to sift through, I literally could have spent hours rummaging, so just did a quick sortie...
Couple of interesting looking things from Deep Wars, couple of Dystopian robots and a CMON mini...just over a tenner, that'll do
Dropped in on Zinge...unfortunately didn't get to chat with Kit this time as he was standing on one leg reaching for the stars in an attempt to get his card reader working for another customer. Did get a couple of the £1 bit bags, some tyres...and the long-awaited buggy....
No doubt that'll make a re-appearance on this thread, think it's more likely to go to the meks than the techs...
Some Matian tripods and some drone thingummies....they'll have plenty of uses no doubt.
And the free figue this year was an archer sculpted by Alan Perry (Agincourt being this year's theme)
Also briefly met Legoburner, admired the sprues and models for Maelstrom's Edge, and grabbed the 2 novels.
That I think, will do for this update...thanks for stopping by, I'l try to make sure the biccies are a bit less stale next time......
