I would enjoy Gate SO MUCH MORE if Rory was a slightly different archtype.
Aren't you exagerating a bit? The way you said it, it sounds like Rory has been a major player in the show. She hasn't really done much besides wasting some fools, the mage has been much more important with her work as an interpreter.
The elf is the one who hasn't really done nothing so far.
I kind of wonder if Rory won't end up more antagonistic later, at least briefly. The stuff that raider was saying to her about is this really what war is supposed to be seemed to get to her.

Characters? There's only 1 gothlolita.
I'm pretty sure the mage and the elf aren't goths nor lolitas.
Sure I'm exaggerating, but I really don't like her character. Her strange bloodlust, the outfit, how she rubs against Itami. She's more like a priestess to the good of slaughter than death. The elf is useless atm, but she hasn't done anything to irk me. The mage is the best though.
The part of Gate's premise that fell flat for me was when conflict seemingly ended. We had a battle in Japan, a battle at arnus hill, and then "let's play Civ" I'm fine with them learning about the world, but at that point it could have been anyone from "our world" instead of the military. I liked the battle a few episodes ago, because it was modern tech vs fantasy tech, which is the biggest reason why I wanted to watch the show. I'll keep watching, but I still don't like Rory
Edit: I don't care about gothlolita characters from any series. Hope that clarifies what I said

I... don't know, my head told me I read you say that somewhere.................. I'm confused right now.
Lol, I've been pro-Gangsta since the week before it started broadcasting when I grabbed the manga.
Also in Kekkai Sensen news, the Bluray/DVD releases start soon, and it looks like we're going to have to wait until November 15th release of Vol. 6 to see the end of the season if they can't find a broadcast spot.
Edit: Picked up vol. 5 and 6 of Gangsta. today after work, will read them when I'm done with Log Horizon vol. 2.

Yeah, the manga was always amazing and I'm glad the anime has the same quality. With that said, I'd love a spin-off dedicated to MON: The Ogre-girl looks so damn cool in her trenchcoat and metal gauntlets and when her power armor is on <3 oh yes.
And ofc the best girl had to the last. Oh Rachnera Arachnera, so glad you are finally here <3
And to me, show of the season goes without any doubt to Overlord. Damn, everything about it is just so damn good. It's either an extremely badass show or funny as hell; I was laughing so much with Momon's inner thoughts when the rest of the party was commenting about the Wise King of the Forest
And on that note, I've now seen an "Overlord" car. It was a fething Ford Mustang GT. Such MANLINESS!
Car is pretty cool. I'm still not subscribed/premium so I'm an episode of two behind but Albedo's Ains body pillow was pretty...interesting
Also, be needs to find something challenging to do, its OK to go back to the lower-middle levels to hell out n00b friends, but he's just tagging around showing of for complete lowbie strangers.
People did this in wow, they were typically not the cool kids
Yeah, my only complaint with Overlord is how rediculously OP he is so far. Nothing has been even remotely a challenge. Hell, he's not just a top tier magic user, he's apparently also a super bad arsed melee warrior too.
AduroT wrote: Yeah, my only complaint with Overlord is how rediculously OP he is so far. Nothing has been even remotely a challenge. Hell, he's not just a top tier magic user, he's apparently also a super bad arsed melee warrior too.
Don't forget how absolute OP he is when a "normal" human has a max of tier 3 magic. Our pharmacist hero said how this Ainz Ooal Gown fellow is probably hero rank so he can use 5th tier magic when we know he can use 9th tier magic
And well, in any RPG when you are high level enough, even the melee attack of a mage will be 1 hit kill for low level mobs.
I'm very curious to finally see what will be a worthy opponent for him. Maybe Shalltear, I guess. We see Momonga and Shalltear fighting in the op and everything in the OP has happened so far.
She shouldn't technically even be on his radar. It would be like Arthas having trouble with the first gate guard in his lair. She may be tougher than anything in this new world so far, but still nothing like an equal. So the opening is certainly curious.
And yeah, max level wizard hanging out in n00b zones can totally bonk things to death with a staff, not to mention his gear is probably giving him fighting stats since he can use those not wizard swords.
Anvildude wrote: I don't know exactly what I expected from Monster Musume, but it wasn't of the quality the show actually possesses.

I read the Manga pretty dedicatedly and the show has made me very happy. We're nearing the "Mom" arch, but I doubt we'll get to it this season, so fingers crossed for S2.
Also love spirit bomb? Love spirit bomb.
I've really been enjoying Gate but the elf is starting to annoy me. Rory and Mage are both fleshing out and doing stuff. So far the elf helps once and is otherwise mostly sitting around silent and blonde while glancing at Itami when she thinks no one is looking.

More or less. Momonga is a player. Sure, he's lvl 100, top level, but he's a player character. Shalltear, if she's a guardian of the dungeon, should be a raid boss. And we all know how raid bosses work in MMOs, either you have a raid or you are dead.
Shalltear's level is also 100. Stats:

Then again, the last few animes I've seen had absolutely pathetic protagonists.

Are you referring to 'mirai nikki'? I read a chunk of the manga and never saw the anime itself. I'm probably way off though considering that anime isn't the big deal this season.
I feel like I have to watch Gangsta now. It seems like it's a great anime for me to watch. I'm still saying it'll get depressing and it'll hit us all very, very hard.
Yeah, Mirai Nikki. Its pretty good, though there are oddities. Yuki is just insufferable though. Its as if they tried to write another Shinji. Even when you think he's gotten over it he can't stop whining. Like, I know that he's thrown into a fight to the death with a bunch of sociopaths, his girlfriend being the biggest one, but come on...

What I don't understand is that yeah he's a whiner and emo but how were most of you at his age? Same goes for shinji.
Personally I think that even though shinji and yuki are annoying at least they do something. Yuki threw a dart at the one dude's phone in the beginning, he's the reason that uni-bomber lady lost her eye and almost lost her diary/life and managed to save yuno from being raped by that blind girl's henchmen by throwing that ball in the air and thus confusing her diary and this is just the early stuff (to my knowledge that accounted for at least 2 kills on diary owners). Sure he's a wuss bag but he does stuff. Same goes for shinji. Shinji kicked *** even in the first version of evangelion. He was a wimp but he always came back after running away and dealt with his problems. The characters just need to grow up and learn that they can't always run away from their problems and in a sense they don't entirely. Besides with shinji he had a dead mom, unloving father and the safety of the city depended on him. That's a lot for anybody. Imo I more hate the 15 year old main characters where they have to save the world while going to high school. I mean fighting robots is easy but how can he handle high school?
So in short you guys just hate the main character's attitude. They aren't worthless by any means. In evangelion shinji's mentally unhinged state was getting worse and wasn't helped by what was happening. If you hate him then hate him for fapping on asuka even if she was a *****. In mirai nikki the main character whined but even his dad betrays him later for cash or something. When crap goes down and your most trusted ally is a sociopathic yandere stalker then you're in trouble.
I dunno I'm pretty sure if at 14, my dad had told me 'pilot this giant robot' I would have clipped off a 'how high' or similar response and jumped into the cockpit. After the first angel fight it may have been different, but shinji was a chickenshit about it before be ever even knew just what he'll he'd be walking into.
I was definitely a teenager when I was a teenager, but no where near shinji tier.
I guess the raid boss/player thing may hold some weight, but if that were the case then even the battle maids would be way stronger than Momonga just for having raid adjusted stats, so I'm not sure its a direct correlation to conventional MMO systems.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Shinji had all kinds of stupid stuff going on before too, I mean abandonment issues out the wazzoo. Then he gets a guardian who is way too purposely sexual around a 14 year old (while not being especially emotionally stable herself), and all of the fights to the death with horrible aliens on top of it.
Shinji probably deserves to be whiney, but it doesn't make him any more fun to watch.
Yeah but both character's dads were terrible people. They also went through some pretty eff'd up ****.
I dunno it's just my opinion that a lot of the anime watchers were themselves the chicken **** type that wussed out fairly easily. So basically I feel it's a bit unfair to expect the main character to be super awesome.
That said that kid got to live with 2 hot women. Then again one was a ***** and the other would've been a pedo if it worked out. This is anime from japan though so it's not like it'd be a first.

Personally, I seem to be having a strange "reverse-maturity-aging" thing going on. I was all super-serious when I was a kid, my teenage years had me worrying about existential stuff (where will I live, how will I make money!?), and now, well, now I've hit the center 'balancing personal needs with responsibilities' bit. Gonna start falling over the hill back to existentialism in a couple decades, I bet.
Then again, I've got Germanic blood in me. I'd be much more of an Asuka than a Shinji.
Ok, let me explain my problem with Shinji. First, in the anime, I understand as a younger person, I didn't think about the enormous pressure on his shoulders, but good Gods, he doesn't make any easier, specially in the movies. Everyone is getting murdered and he's "NO, I will not use the Eva to protect everyone, I will just stay here and die!"
But that's ok, that was the old Eva. Now we have the new movies where Shinji is actually a likable human being. Right? Right?!
Yes, until movie 3.
/Begin rant
Heavy Spoilers about movie and mirai nikki. Be warned.
You see, Shinji fethed up. He fethed up badly and caused the apocalypse by the end of movie 2 but of course he had no idea he was gonna do it.
Long story short, in movie 3 when they get him from stasis, EVERYONE he ever knew was telling him "Never get into an Eva again." But ok, he was confused, he woke up from statis, everyone he ever knew was cold and angry with him, he didn't trust them now, I understand
Then he meets the Angel, the same as in the original Evangelion, and like in the original Evangelion, they become BFFs. They become REALLY close, he's like, the best BFF anyone ever had.
Shinji is given a mission by his father (Yes, the fether is still alive ofc) and Shinji now pilots a special Eva that requires 2 pilots, him and the Angel and he has to retrieve something.
EVERYONE he ever knew he's shouting for him not to do it.
THE ANGEL, the one guy he really should trust and who GIVES HIS LIFE FOR HIM, BEGS SHINJI not do it.
What does Shinji do? He does it anyway.
Angel dude dies thanks to Shinji.
Shinji releases the Apocalypse. AGAIN. THIS TIME WITH THE ENTIRE CAST BEGGING HIM NOT TO DO IT. INCLUDING HIS BFF. WHO DIES.
fething SHINJI IS THE MOST IDIOTIC AND PISSY CHARACTER. EVER. Sorry, this had to be in caps.
And Yuki? He's almost Shinji level. Why? Because of the SAME, GOD, DAMN, REASON.
There's this guy, who's almost like the Angel to Shinji. He's a great friend. Hell, he has many great friends who did all they could to help him, even sacrificed their lives from him.
Who does he trust and gets them all killed? His fething psychopatic girlfriend that already KIDNAPPED HIM BEFORE.
GODS. Some characters are made to be hated, some for reasons like the Mage in Fate Zero, others, well, because they are Shinji.

So, I've just finished Gundam ZZ, and to sum it up....
Speaking just of the second half (post episode 21), I'd actually say I liked it better than Zeta. It's hard to pin down why, but I think it comes down to finding the characters a lot more interesting, and more coherent.
Spoiler:
Zeta was kind of all over the place with characterisation for a lot of the cast. All I knew of Scirroco for most of the series was that he was mysterious, charming and vaguely untrustworthy, and by the point where he actually got developed, the plot had rendered him almost completely irrelevant. And then there was more-or-less the same plot repeating three times with Four, Four again and then Rosalia (and then there's Reccoa.....) In ZZ, there is a bit of a jolt when the antagonists introduced in the first half get upgraded into actual threats, but overall, the character development felt a lot smoother.
Plus, there was finally the all-out Psyco Gundam boss battle that Zeta kept teasing us with.
Well, Shimoneta had some... interesting developments.
Anna has been wacky so far, but this latest ep. shows the honestly could give Mirai Nikki's Yuno a run for her money... that was some grade A Yandere moment.
And Kosuri... *whistle* Grade A bitch. She's even worst than what I expected.
I honestly have no idea what the "main plot" is that will end the show. Maybe the defeat of the "bad" terrorism organization?
Hmm, that's an interesting point. Each episode keeps reinforcing how damaging the whole zero sex ed is. I'd like to think it'll end with that becoming apparent to everyone, but I doubt that's within the scope of 12/13 episodes.
I'd have to agree that, for now, the goal will be defeating Gathered Fabric. :/
So, as someone who has as admitted to not liking Rory, I just watched the latest episode of Gate, and you win this round Rory fans, she was very effective in the Diet. I enjoyed the interrogation parts of the episode, because we all know any government group like the Diet would have acted as they did, so it was nice to see people who were there to tell the stuffy politicians to stfu.
Gate continues to do just enough to get me to watch next week lol.
I very, very, very rarely lose track of time when I watch anime, but when I do, it's because IT'S UNBELIVABLY good. Like Overlord.
Damn, this episode felt like 5mns, I couldn't believe I was seeing the ED, I mean, DAMN. That final sentence that ended the episode, that's swag. Massive, massive swag badassery. Momon for best character 2015. Hell, for President!

That was a good episode.
Still can't believe how quickly they killed off those adventurers .
I love how Momon was flustered when Nabe came up with a better tactic than him. You can tell he was thinking "gak, why didn't I think of that?!"

And yes, just shows how this show cares not for the "plot shied." Oh, you have a name, background and a purpose in life? You die!
There's one thing I don't get though - if he's a warrior class, how can he cast magic?
Spoiler:
He cast that despair spell on that giant hamster, and then he summoned a pair of monsters to fight that undead army. Is this a JRPG thing, where warrior types can use some spells?

He's not, he's a wizard using warrior gear to go undercover, he's just so over-leveled that any gear penalties don't matter. This was established pretty much from the start.
He's not a Warrior Class, he's a level capped Caster Class. He just apparently has some exploit where he can use weapons/armor that he creates with his magic and that fact everyone is significantly lower "level" than he is makes him seem like a warrior in comparison. Although I think I recall something about the armor was supposed to keep him from casting magic or something but he did still use that magic didn't he?

Yes, all explained before. Armor and weapons are magic items as such he can use them. When he put the armor on he said he can't cast in armor, though it appears it's more a case of only low spells.
IIRC, that armor and weapons were created by him thanks to a spell, a bit like the summon weapon from The Elder Scrolls. D&D has some spells like this but obviously not nearly permanent like his.
And for the REALLY fluffy bunnies, one of the names she mentioned that could fight her on equal terms was the manly as hell captain from ep 3-4, but, well, we know what his strenght is compared to Mr. Momon
@Desubot - Oh, besides the "WTF" feel what did you think? I honestly felt the end was way too rushed, those final episodes, damn.
EDIT:
Welp, here's my help to to feed the Overlord factory. Good Gods, the anime industry is wack, almost 10€ for a CD with 4 songs (and none of them the OP! That was another CD! with the same price), but so be it, I need more Overlord and Momon's face in the cover pretty much forced my wallet.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious. I still don't understand the logic in sending a team to capture them first, when they already had intel to blackmail the Prime Minister with. Doesn't make much sense :/
Watching Assassination Classroom. Its fun so far, but I don't see why they just coat everything with that anti-korosensei stuff. Like, grind it into a powder and sprinkle it everywhere.
I also don't fully understand why other countries are sending these teams in to kidnap the "guests". Best I can come up with is that they're trying to create and incident, so as to prove Japan isn't capable of handling the Special Zone on their own. Seems kinda random and/or unrealistic though.

I don't mind America is evil, they just heavy handed the pro JSDF a bit much, especially the "I'm Force Recon and I thought I was super bad assed but I just can't even come close to these guys" line. And it just seemed to lack reason. If you're working that back alley black mail angle, wait till it's finished before you send in your troops.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit forced at well.
Like, I get the guards had a bit of a tactical advantage, as they were in familiar territory and concealed, but even then it felt wrong.
I hope they just don't have Rory kill off those agents. That would be lame.
I am curious as to how they will handle a visit to the US. I have a sneaking suspicion that it would be done badly.

I highly doubt they'll get caught. It would make the JSDF look bad if they were to allow that to happen. Plus as you said, Rory is there and there's little way she couldn't handle those guys by herself, much less with some wizardly backup.
I found it strange that they didn't have any sort of tech for night fighting, just some schmucks in camo and ski masks, like come prepared... That's what bugged me the most about the America is evil aspect... It's more like America is incompetent at being evil...
Heh, I agree with the above points. I don't mind the "America is evil" (or China and/or Russia), but it probably could have done without the American's comment of "Ermagerd, these Japanese are sooooo much better at everything than we are!" That part was silly.

This, so much this. I had to after that comment. That and the lack of the tech. Are you telling me, the americans with all their training and gear, they aren't going to at least, at the very minimum, take with them some kind of night-vision?
I could hear the author's *FAP* sound behind the whole scene, damn, he must have had fun while writting this bit.
And Prison School... damn, I never thought this anime would have such an awesome cast. The "Bro" moments that happen are amazing, first it was Gakutou last week after doing what he did, I almost shed manly tears after witnessing such a bro move, but today, eh, it just keeps getting better.
(The diary scene was pure genius. )

Gotta polish those JSDF tank barrels
It could be worse. The author originally wrote online and got a publishing gig. They made him tone down the nationalism for print.
I heard Blood Trail mentioned earlier. Which not only has possibly one of the most positive representations of an American in anime, I also appreciated that
Spoiler:
Roberta got messed up as all get out after that fight. In the manga she wasn't even scratched.
Sigh, I still need to get Volume 10... on the bright side, tomorrow is Non Non Biyori Day!
Spoiler:
I could go for more High School flashbacks with Candy Store. That was cool.
Ok, I just thought of a reason why they didn't have night vision - they were trying to make it look like a kidnapping by terrorists / thugs / whatever.
It wouldn't make that much sense for a bunch of punks to have high tech military gear, and those two guards did say that you can find most of their gear in akihabara (apparently).
Still, in that case the line should have been "I wish we had better equipment then this gak" instead of "ohmurgard deez guys are so much betta den' us."

Since officially the US and Japan are allies (and thus this mission was completely off the record) there's a fan theory floating around that the Americans are low-tier PMC's (like Blue Sun from Mass Effect tier.)
So your idea would work along well with that, I think. Although now I have that Zapp Brannigan quote stuck in my head....
Caesar Ops, (where an ally attacks another ally for one reason or another) are all about plausible deniability. The German Fallschirmjaeger squad that got killed destroying a nuclear weapons lab in Wyoming in the early 80s weren't exactly carrying their usual G3s and MP5s.
I also wouldn't give low grade terrorists too much credit. Hadji hasn't managed to get much, if any, thermal, night or infared vision devices, and they have some very, very wealthy friends bankrolling them.
In the complete opposite direction, I'm just watching last week's Shimoneta... Japan is fething incompetent in that world, so anime is at least balancing itself out .
Example: The new character from the Decency Squad removing basketball hoops, ping pong balls, lengths of rope for their non-intended use but keeping "Please Don't Hate my Banana" is totally fine because it's a sublime textbook of philosophy and psychology...

She's... like a robot. Every time they said "No, this is fine" she'd just go "Ok, I'll update this information and remove this from the "naughty" list".
Grey Templar wrote: For Feth's sake Crunchyroll, have some variety in your ads. I literally watched the same ad 3 times back to back.
Oh yeah that was annoying.
I remember once during some Eve Online ads (should probably reinstall that one of these days) that you could skip the ad would lag and self-skip. Those were good times
I showed TheDraconicLord the anime site I use but I don't know how legit it is. It was closed down for a time until it changed it's ending from .com to .eu. Like I said I'd say but I don't know if the mods would approve. It's all streamed of the latest anime and older ones and only one commercial before the start of each episode (not sure how it is for movies). The ads around the side are typical ads with mini-games and booty-licious/boob-a-licious women in supposedly adult rpgs which probably suck as far as games are considered.
---------
In other news I just saw this trailer on dorkly.com. It's a cooking show where large or decent sized boob ladies eat food that's so good they're clothes come off and they have orgasms because you know japan.
Oh yeah Food Wars is pretty good, the artist used to do hentai, thus the fanservice during meals.
Also the twist in Charlotte caught me completely off guard I am definitely suggesting that anyone who liked Angel Beats or Clannad check out Charlotte.
I'm quickly wishing that I found Charlotte in 5 weeks so I could just binge the whole thing. Though this might be what gets me to check out Angel Beats.

Wait...Charlotte is like Angel Beats?!
Damn it, I did NOT need yet another anime to watch this season! D: Now I must check it out.
Charlotte is written by Jun Maeda, author of Clannad and Angel Beats. I avoided AB because I didn't want/need a feels anime, but I'll be watching it.down the road.
Angel Beats wasn't really long enough to really hit you with the 'feels'. It tried really hard at the end but then kind of contradicted itself. Nothing close to Clannad. Enjoyed both to one degree or another though so this Charlotte may be something to look into.
I just caught up myself in my usual way of bingeing stuff. It's very good. Definitely deserving of a second season
Spoiler:
If the adventured don't somehow come back to life, even as servants of Momon, I will be pissed. And that bitch deserved the death she got, slow and painful, just like the ones she gave so many others.
I really haven't watched any anime this season, not even old ones. I did watch redline last weekend with my brother though.
I finaly thought to myself "It's time to get off my lazy butt and watch some god damn anime! Wait.."
There are good anime, and then there 's the class above like Overlord. <3 I thought it already gave me enough, but no
Spoiler:
It gave me a beautiful animated 40k moment to <3 That was a lovely moment of a normal human trying to fight a Space Marine <3 she just got crushed so easily. Literally.
I can only hope it gets the second season it deserves soon, because these 13 episodes are in no way enough! More, we need much more!!
Btrw, here's how the scene goes in the novel <3
Spoiler:
No matter how she struggled, she couldn’t break free of the arms’ restraint. But Clementine didn’t stop struggling, it was hard for her to breathe and her vision narrowed.
“The dance of death?”
She didn’t have the strength to listen to the soft voice.
With the sound of vomit, filth was sprayed onto Ainz. The red light within Ainz’s eye socket flashed with disgust
Clementine who had been using both of her arms while struggling to escape had become a spasming corpse.
Ainz didn’t lessen the strength in his arms, but squeezed harder. Shortly after, Ainz felt the sensation of a thick bone cracking from his arms.
Ainz release the body that couldn’t even spasm.
With a splat, Clementine’s body fell to the ground like trash. Her face was twisted into a bunch from pain and horror, a terrible sight. She was like a fish caught from the ocean, her organs visible from her mouth.
Taking out his infinite flask, Ainz washed himself clean from the vomit with the endlessly flowing water. At the same time, he said quietly to Clementine:
“I forgot to tell you… I am very stubborn.”

Its stubborn in the novel?
That's odd, in the sub I watched it was hypocritical.
I'm starting to get bored of Overlord personally. I thought we were going to get a good fight, and instead it was just more excessively OPness. With there being no challenge to overcome there's little to get me invested.
AduroT wrote: I'm starting to get bored of Overlord personally. I thought we were going to get a good fight, and instead it was just more excessively OPness. With there being no challenge to overcome there's little to get me invested.
There was never going to be any decent fight when one of the few people (she claimed) that could face her was the Captain from episode 3-4. You know, the dude who for a human was OP as hell and extra manly, that actually managed to beat a ton of angels. LOW level angels and yet he was near death.
Personally, I couldn't wait to see how he was going to toy with her until he finally killed her because there was no chance in hell she was gonna put ut up a fight. And thankfully I was not disappointed.
Spoiler:
He revealed he was a caster right before her death, when she said casters were no fun and she killed them easily. THAT was what I really wanted to happen before she died. Just to humiliate her even more before her miserable end.
@ChtululsSpy - Yes, in mine too and according to Reddit comments Ains says the same thing as the novel, stubborn. I'm guessing this is one of those localised situations where in a certain kind of situation it means hypocrite. Lords knows every language and culture has plenty of those.
Gotta say, I think swapping "Hypocritical" for "Stubborn" sounds much better and makes more sense. I really enjoy the utter OPness; it's reminiscent of having a high level character and running around one-shotting lower level mobs.
I think hypocritical works better personally, since the starts off the encounter commenting that being mad at her for killing the adventurers would make him such.
AduroT wrote: I think hypocritical works better personally, since the starts off the encounter commenting that being mad at her for killing the adventurers would make him such.
Yeah, I thought hypocrite worked just fine.
He would be hypocritical for being angry at something he would have done himself. So instead he's mad that she mucked up his plans.

Yeah, this episode had plenty of fanservice and happy fun times. gak is gonna hit the fan so hard. this was probably the calm before the storm.
I will say something about the overall story though: there WILL be a graduation. I'm guessing this season is gonna stop there.
Finished Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood today, damn I wish it was still going on, but that story was well executed in number of episodes created.
Now I need to decide what to binge next, I'm thinking Baccano. Though I've started to check out some Kamen Rider series. Not anime I know, but it's still Japanese and I feel like there might be a KR fan in here, somewhere.
So I was browsing netflix and came across something called Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher. I'm not sure it's *technically* an anime but many/most/all? or the people behind it had curiously Japanese looking names. And the art style, animation, and so on... So I'm counting it.
Starts off moderately boring with the principle characters looking at monitors for a few seconds each, maybe a title. Until about two minutes in and some unlucky thug gets his throat slit. Wooo, this is not yet another avengers show set for kids? Decided to watch it through.
Holy crap Castle and Romanoff are perfect for this art/animation style. Several epic hand to hand and gun fights. In that first scene alone the Punisher makes Segall look bad for the number of necks snapped per capita/second.
Several of the Avengers get called in towards the end and while fun to watch, their big smashy powers were not nearly as fun as watching Punisher and Widow beat the crap out of people. And since their names were in the title, they got to fight the last fight themselves anyway.
Spoiler:
It ended like it started, with Castle stabbing someone in their damn face. Hard.
The voice acting was kind of meh, I dunno if it was the actors, the script, or what. Widow especially came across as kind of i dunno.. awkward somehow. Not my favorite fury voice either. Punisher had an acceptably gravely 'Batman Voice'. Music/audio was ok, just not sure I liked the voice acting a whole lot. If that was the worst thing, it did pretty well overall.
The plot was kind of straight forward and nothing you wouldn't expect, but if you watch it for the fight scenes, totally worth it.
That evil organization really over hyped those "super" soldiers, didn't they? "So powerful you'll never have to fear the Avengers again!" Punisher and Black Widow, the two normal humans, show up and take dozens of them on at a time. They were really pretty ineffectual.

If I may do a slight correction: Black Widow is not a "normal" human, she's like the "Russian Captain America". She was injected with the Red Room's Super-Soldier Serum.
The Punisher is just made of awesome and win. <3 That's better than any serum <3
When did Widow have super soldier serum? I'm sure its possible in one continuity, but I know she's a vanilla mortal in at least some Avengers stuff. Maybe I blanked it out if they explained during this particular show. Would explain why she was going toe to toe with whatshisname who 'made himself super' and still couldn't beat what I thought was a normal human.
Super soldiers were sucky lol.
Punisher IS filled with awesome and win I love that guy. He's everything I wish some other comic book heroes would be. I mean, I know it's good to give kids and young adults (and adults too, really!) the message that killing is wrong and that super heroes shouldn't be above the law and all that but, meh. Punisher gets gak done, violently, and permanently. It's just refreshing to watch I mean think about it, in all but the kiddiest versions of Batman, whenever the Joker breaks out of Arkham.. he kills multiple guards escaping. Then they just put him back in, and the cycle repeats. Just kick him off a damn rooftop already Bats... or get a cross-dimensional teleporter built and call in Frank Castle, he'll do it.

There's actually a comic with both the Punisher and one of the Batman's replacements when's trying to get his spine fixed after Bane kicked his ass, Azrael. It's GLORIOUS.

So, the SDF was fighting not against a country, but 3 at the same time, not taking any losses and making "SQUAD MORALE BROKEN" left and right. Gods, the author's *FAP* sounds are increasing exponentially.

So yeah, they just had Rory kill off the Black Ops teams, and it wasn't even cool like when Alucard does it. fething lame.
Think about it, first the had the Black Ops get decimated by guards, then they get slaughtered by a demigod. Where's the dramatic tension?
It would be like if the Wild Geese won against the Nazis, and then the remainder gets curb stomped by Seras. There's just no impact.

Guess they had a really good health plan, heh.
Anywho, it's stuff like that that kept me from hopping on the Gate train. That and the lack of proper magic versus modern tech battles (I mean doesn't everyone wanna see how many Fireballs a modern tank can take?)
I've been watching Snow White with Red Hair recently, because I need happiness in my life wherever I can get it. Cute little show with a bit of old style romanticism to it.
Bah! No Magi or the one where they're stuck in the video game still! Glad to see more Noragami though. That Gundum looks better than the previous one as well. Several others there that look up my alley as well to check out.
Was holding a baby earlier so it was hard to type. The gundam did look interesting. I'm still a little burned out on (noun)highschool/academy type shows and I saw a couple of those that I won't bother with, but there was some interesting stuff. The one with the guy waking up in the woods and getting saved by a girl with ears and a tail sounded interesting, maybe scratch that old Inuyasha itch.
By the way, anyone watching Rokka no Yuusha and have any bets on who the fake Brave is? Personally, my money is on;
Spoiler:
Bunny Princess. My guess is she used her blade power to put the sword in the pedestal and activate the barrier without actually being inside the temple.

I haven't seen this week's episode yet (been watching far too much Kamen Rider, watching W and Drive almost at the same time). But that's my guess too, and for the same reason.
Spoiler:
Also she broke the tablet, and honestly they're not even trying to hide it being her. The total lack of information about suspecting her makes her seem like the clearest suspect.
I liked the premise of the show, but now that it's basically turned into Mafia (or Werewolf) the anime, or "Fantasy Clue" as I've been calling it, it's been a good show.
A bit off-topic but I don't understand why so many people seem to hate America so much. Maybe they hate freedom . Kidding but seriously it just boggles my mind how much hate it's garnered though. It's either stupid, ignorant, evil, lazy or a douche and i'll have you guys know I'm probably only one or two of those (I'm going to go with lazy and maybe ignorant). At one point I half-way convinced 'The Draconic Lord' to want to move here but he said he's a history buff and the usa doesn't have much history.
More on-topic I should either get back to arslan seki or go on to gangsta.
Sorry if I catch up on anime last but I'm a little busy with my new video game 'Act of Aggression'. I will lord it over CthuluIsSpy since he put it on his wishlist. The best part of the game is the music, voice acting is laughably bad in some areas, some units sink through terrain at times and the game is alright.

Well, you don't have a lot of history compared to Europe, that's just a fact.
True we don't but i don't get the hate for our country. I mean if we're all making fun of countries like the usa i could make fun of the Netherlands and the Danish in the way that the comic strip 'Scandinavia and the World' did. Basically they said the Netherlands and the Danish both had sex with sheep ;P. Guess those sheep were just asking for it ;P. I actually find it odd a Danish friend mentioned it's totally ok to have sex with animals there as long as it's consensual. That's kinda weird.
Looks like someone got their hands on it, subbed it, and uploaded it somewhere. Reddit had a discussion post about it, but no links as to where it could be found (usually who's distributing it). So we have to wait a few more weeks for the official airing?

No clue where that one comes from for The Dutch, there's hardly any sheep around here compared to the cows.
Also, the reason America get's all the hate is because of what you are doing, Americans actually get butt hurt over it. Europe has been slinging gak at each other for the better part of a millennium, we have thick skin.

I suppose i shouldn't get worried about it. It's not like Europe has any relevance overall as world superpowers anymore ;D. Alright, alright so maybe some of the America hate is deserved but at least throw it at those that throw it and not all americans.
Not to be a jerk but i find it odd people hate seeing America as the good guy army in fiction. I mean it's not like the Danish army would save the day or Netherlands. I love my Danish friend but come on. Let's put it this way i played wargame and tried teasing my Danish friend by joking about the Danish army until i saw what their army had in the game and then felt really bad for their army and apologized because i didn't realize it was so bad. Even now in 'wargame' they mostly don't have anything that cool (except the otomatic which is amazing).

I liked the premise of the show, but now that it's basically turned into Mafia (or Werewolf) the anime, or "Fantasy Clue" as I've been calling it, it's been a good show.
Okay, so I just finished the latest episode and here's why I'm fairly certain...

that its bunny girl. Here's why: She's been the most adamant defender of Adlet until Maura's message. At that point she completely changes her attitude. If she were so easily swayed by words she would have done it sooner. The fact that she.changes after Maura's message gives her a convenient out.

I completely agree.
Having read the spoiler then watched the show from episode 3 to 10 the tells feel pretty obvious.
I don't think we'll see a resolution beyond the "oh snap so and so was the 7th" because the anime is not popular in Japan, so we'll probably not get a second season, and the things I'm hearing about the light novel aren't terrible, but they don't really fill me with hope.
I love the setting, but its looking like you could set this in Crusades era Europe/Middle East and achieve the same story, which is just a giant game of mafia as it has been pointed out.
Though I have a feeling it's gonna go Battlestar Galactica and everyone will be the 7th for some reason or another, spoilers contain my thoughts on the Cylcons 7th.
Spoiler:
Adlet - his village worshipped that gator fiend.
Flemy - She's half fiend, could still be under their orders.
Bunny Princess - lied to Adlet early on, lack of evidence pointing to her makes her in the characters' blind spots.
Maura - single minded in her pursuit of destroying Adlet, being able to control Chamot means that she immediately has the strongest Saint in her pocket and has that insurance.
Chamot - Corruption from within as she contains fiends in her stomach, also could simply be the 7th because she's the strongest.
Hans - Assassin, could be the 7th for the highest bidder.
Goldov - Probably not the 7th, probably the 8th.
HAHA oh man one piece! Probably one of the older ones around it fills up a few shelves with the mangas, the GF is a big fan, always tells me I look like luffy!
What's always funny is that, though it's pretty darn old, it's still ongoing.
Honestly, I like it. It starts really slow and, honestly, somewhat boring, but just keeps this steady ramp up to greater and greater heights of awesome and heartwarming (and weird). It's got a lot of heart to it, along with great action and good characterization of pretty much everyone. The villains are understandable as people while still being fun to hate, the good guys say 'screw the rules' all the way home, and man, that bit with
Yeah Lich's have magic. Also, saying undead lich is like saying ATM Machine, redundant Although... I guess since the nature of your question stresses the importance of the undeath... probably not uncalled for.
Well, from what I read in Reddit, this week's Overlord was one of the worst adaptations so far. It seems they left out many things but hey, no time for everything and truth be told, they were not essential. But one interesting thing the missing scene show is how, well, EVIL, Ainz minions are. This is the complete Solution's scene:
After binging practically nothing but FMA, my life seems devoid of anime. Currently deciding on which series to tear through next. Options are the following
Fate Series (starting chronologically so with Fate/Zero)
Monogatari (whatever is after Bakemonogatari)
GTO
Ghibli films (have them all, just haven't watched them all)
Alternatively, some shorter series might be nice after a bigger series like FMA.

How they're going to achieve their goal of producing an heir for an undead litch.
You will need a tiny skeleton.

No! Of all the girls, not her! I mean, the signs were there, the way how she was getting less and less screen time together with the shovel, how the OP and ED subtly changed and yet I hoped. She was My favorite girl, of course she had to die.
Damn it, first 2 deaths, school is filled with zombies, illusions shattered, what an awesome episode! The cute part of the anime just died.
She was bitten, she's hand-cuffed and the school is now filled with zombies tearing down the barricade. I really, REALLY, don't see her surviving, I'm already considering her dead on borrowed time. Hell, the poor Senpai already had a moment she was considering killing her, she's breaking down too.

Jesus Christ that got fething dark... mind you they had to shatter the illusion sometime. I can't wait to see just how yuki reacts to the situation now she's not deluding herself.
What's the deal with the Gate subs? They had been going up Friday mornings, last week they weren't up till Friday night, and now this week they're still not up yet.

"Mankind.. back when we still walked on all fours, we always had in front of us.. the butt. Then, from the time mankind started walking on two legs, we stopped having butts stuck in our faces all the time, and in their place, what appeared in our faces... were boobs! Women grew larger breasts, to take the place of the buttocks. The original source of life is the buttocks! Boobs are just a substitute! Boobs are nothing more than a pale imitation of the buttocks! If asked what you'd rather have, a copy or an original, naturally, I would choose the original! Boobs jut out forward due to the processes of evolution, keeping the buttocks further back and to the rear hidden! However, that is where the grace of the Eros of the buttocks is-"
"That's enough. You have more than conveyed to me that you are a true ass man. That was a great answer, kindred spirit of mine."
I can't believe, how Prison School, one anime I started watching for the "lulz, ecchi" has some of the best characters and situations I have seen in an anime. What a season this has been.
I thought the one day delay for the new episode of Gate was bad, but apparently there's a full week delay on the new episode of God Eater. I suppose it could be worse... When's the finale of Blood Brigade supposed to air?
AduroT wrote: I thought the one day delay for the new episode of Gate was bad, but apparently there's a full week delay on the new episode of God Eater. I suppose it could be worse... When's the finale of Blood Brigade supposed to air?
There have been a few shows that go on 1 week delay for some reason or another. Blood Blockade Battlefront having a week delay between 10 and 11, meaning they could have done 12 when it should have aired and we'd not be waiting until November 17th for the final volume disc to be released...
It could be worse, you could be watching God Eater on Crunchyroll who is like three weeks behind.
There's something weird with God Eater in general. The site I use to watch anime pulled the entire thing sometime between the fifth and sixth episodes. Thought it was odd when six didn't go up, and got to looking and every episode and mention of it was gone but other sites had the sixth episode up.
Another show I watch did an episode 9.5 recap episode here recently as well. Seems like a lot of delays in general this season compared to previous?
I think there have been a large number of breaks/recap episodes this season as compared to Spring/end of winter. Durarara didn't have an episode last week for some reason or another.
Even knowing Shimoneta, I never thought I would see a girl being bitch-slapped by the electrified taser penis of a panty wearing man... The dude had some serious moves using his 3rd arm.
What a time to be alive.
And they actually managed to sneak in the lewdest thing I have ever seen in an anime, that scene after the credits, oooh boy
Are we all referring to the thing that occurred...
Spoiler:
Ayame straddling Kosuri in a side shot where Kosuri shot her milk/juice/gogurt/whatever and it just so happened to line up with her very awkward hairstyle?

Yep. And that wasn't the only thing sneaked in the episode, oh no.

Spoiler:
Her hair even changed from the usual style to a more ... "soft" when she got sad and depressed
I posted that before I saw the real Hotarun. Such a good episode, seeing more of her. She's so reserved while around the others it was cool seeing that side of her.
Alfndrate wrote: I posted that before I saw the real Hotarun. Such a good episode, seeing more of her. She's so reserved while around the others it was cool seeing that side of her.
To paraphrase a comment on the episode's crunchyroll thread: I had forgotten that Hotarun was the second youngest of the group. Thanks for reminding me.
Seeing Komari fiddle with the phone reminded me of the first text I sent.
Rewatched both of the edited-together RWBY 'movies', good stuff.
Then I went and watched the trailers, even better stuff before it got cleaned up and plotted I think the characters were even more powerful (and there was lots of blood and dismemberment) before it got refined into the show. All of those epic scyther rifle recoil decapitations I also can't tell if the animation is just outright better, or if it just looks different and more to my taste in the trailers, but I really like them.
Also watching Kotoura-san on netflix. Again not my usual type of show but it's pretty amusing.
I think a big thing about the trailers was that A: they were meant to drum up excitement, and so had to showcase the best-of-the-best animation, and 2: They're primarily action scenes, which the RWBY team do really well- though to be fair (or unfair), making someone do crazy flips, or a weapon that morphs into another weapon, or making crazy fireballs and blood spatters is actually rather easy to make look good in Computer Animation- it's subtle, simpler things, like making a face look genuinely happy or sad, matching lip movements to speech, or getting the shift of weight right during a casual saunter, that are really, really difficult.
I watched the 'movies' on Netflix and the trailers are easily found on youtube. I'm pretty sure the shows are/were at some point as well. Maybe also crunchyroll?
*I checked, I think it's just the shorter 'episode length' bits on crunchyroll.
Also they have all of fate/whatever unlimited blade works I think, suck eggs Netflix.
Crunchyroll has Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, which is the second of the three routes from the visual novel. It's missing the first route from the original anime done by Madhouse? I think. I have been watching Fate/Zero and its pretty decent. I.think I'm going to like it better than F/SN.
So, UBW guys, if you wanna go ahead and remake F/SN after doing the Heaven's Feel movie (why is that a movie and not a series again?) We will gladly pay your obscene prices for copies. Maybe.
In the meantime, I'll go back to Snow White with Red Hair, because I'm a romantic sap apparently (wonder if it'll get dubbed....)
Well, I am officially done with Rokka no Yuusha (and hopefully it's done as well). That was absolutely -TERRIBLE-. >.<
So far I think Prison School and Overlord have been the best this season. Gate started out pretty strong, but the pro-Japan is starting to wear on me a bit...
I'm still behind Himouto Umaru-chan as being my favorite of the season. Gangsta is still great, but the manga is ahead of the show and it gets so wonky that it almost needs a second season and will probably end on a cliffhanger tomorrow
Totally laughed out loud at Rokka's reveal with the Blood. It's just like effing seriously?
Spoiler:
Bunny gal was too obviously the villain because she was too obviously not the villain. My second guess was Adlet himself on the condition he didn't actually Know he was a fake. We saw him get his crest, but we didn't see anyone else get theirs, so we don't know if they got theirs in the same way.
Having a new seventh show up is kind of lame but let's them keep their shows schtick going. Plus it kind of makes my previous second choice guess of Adlet more likely because the fake brave killing another fake brave means they don't lose a petal off their crest so they end up thinking they killed the only fake brave.
Not happy to set the military as the manliest and true Space Marines on Earth, Gate's author turns to other Japanese deeds to exalt In anime, you usually have someone saying a kind of food is delicious, true, but when a character says: "How does Japan elevate even the smallest dishes to works of art?", oh boy
Interesting final ep, they just open up a new plot with the dark elf for the 2nd season starting January.
Also, GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!

Welp, it's finally been announced, according to Kekkai Sensen's official webpage, it'll be an hour ep (46 minutes + commercials) out on Saturday October 3rd.

-Insert footage of Ayame Kajo doing several hand gestures here- I'm not sure if Dakka allows that :(
Well... I had teary eyes when Non Non Biyori's credits started rolling. Better not to think about the end, but about how blessed we were for this second season to exist. I'm still gonna miss my weekly dose of soul cleansing, tho ... The world seems such a perfect place when NNB's on.
Oh, who am I kidding, I was crying with that end, teary eyes my ass. NNB is on a league of it's own, I can only hope this is a farewell and not a goodbye. it was a pleasure to watch you NNB, you won't be forgotten:

I liked how the end of this season began with the end of last season. That was neat.
Eh, yeah, and it's pretty different from NNB: A Yonkoma with a Devil. Hika-nee goes to Tokyo to study, becomes friends with the Devil King's daughter. Seems legit.
What I really would love, would be an OVA with the gang visiting Tokyo (because of Hika-nee). Can you imagine Renge in there? Or Komari in the fashion places like Shibuya or Harajuku. It would be great <3
NO! I can't believe how the Overlord ep. ended! I need to know more D:
What a magnificent episode! Just, magnificent! The dialogues, the "pew pew", the frekin' buffs! Now that was some serious D&D high level buffing! Or vanilla wow raiding! "buff up!"
Also, when a spell is called "The goal of all Life is Death", DAYUM, you know it's gonna be awesome!
The end has to be mind blowing, I can't expect a flop end after 12 episodes of pure awesome.
The Goal of All Life is Death: This special skill is one of Ainz's most powerful abilities and comes from the Eclipse class which is one of the hardest classes to get because it requires the overlord class with spells specialized in necromancy and instant death type magics. The Eclipse class let's the user become a true lord of death, a life consuming Eclipse. This spell delays other instant death type spells for 12 seconds, but allows them to ignore any types of resistance - even invalid. Ainz used this spell with '(Widen) Cry of the Banshee', and it killed everything in 200m. Cooldown of this spell is 100 hours. It is not possible to resist this spell, with the only counter being that one must use a either an item or skill that would cause them to be revived before the 12 seconds pass.
Oh, and I've found more things to nitpick about Gate - Where is the UN? Wouldn't the UN be all over an extra-dimensional gate, especially if the US, Russia and China were to put pressure on them? Why has there not been a UN research inquiry?
Also, why couldn't they just...you know, take the Dark Elves in as refugees? The SDF seem to have no problem accepting people into Alnus now.
Shiki was interesting. It's been awhile and I think the carrier I was using dropped it a couple of episodes from the finale so I never saw how it ended, but it was interesting.

Part three is fantastic, though Part 2 is my favorite part. Enjoy Part 3, it'll be over too quickly. Also around episode 39 of Part 3, make sure you start watching the OP again. They change it ever so slightly and the first time you see it, its worth it.
The Anime Club Started up again. And Like two of them are ones we watcheds last year :(
But im Watching Seraph of the end. It is like a modern DBZ
Where like, they spend half the battle talking and Having a "Moment"
Thats actually not a new concept. There have been several cultures which mandated that you could not go off to war till you had a kid.
The way they did it in the Anime was well Animish
Guy gets kicked from army for being Reckless
Get sent to High-school, where he needs to find a friend(IT flip-flops between finding a friend, or a romantic parter)
In the end, he is still on suspension, cause he needs a GF
Granted it is explained, the human race was reduced to 10% so they need breeders
But then it is ignored cause he made a friend and gets into the army.
I am offering the souls of my unborn sons for a second season of Overlord.
HELL, take the souls of my grandsons too if that's what it takes! What an anime! What a character! Since Satsuki I haven't felt this much fan-boyism for a character, but the magnificent Lord Ains deserves all of it!
HAIL!
Edit: eh, I have checked both reddit and MyAnimeList for reactions about the end and it's hilarious how different it is. People on reddit are like me, loved it to hell and back and want a S2 badly, MAL are like "Pfft, this show was gak."
In case you are like me and you are afraid Madhouse uses their skill once again (Skill: The Goal of All Madhouse Shows is Only Have One Season ) here's the link for the LN translations
It's very disappointing to see how the employees were fethed without any kind of lube. They found out they were now unemployed outta nowhere.
The only silver lining (for me) is how their anime is "meh" for me. If it was Madhouse or Trigger, oh boy, then I would be going "NOOOO" - Darth Vader style.

Tuesday nights are gonna be a bit empty now since Overlord and Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou appear to be finished. I guess I should watch Gate, Shimoneta, Prison school and a few others from this season.
I'll definitely be checking out Komori-san wa Kotowarenai!, as I enjoyed the manga. And the perfect insider looks interesting. Other than that, I'll probably just see what other people like.
Haven't picked yet, I'm thinking new Gundam and haikyuu!! and probably whatever looks good. Already turned down Lances N Masques and Heavy Object because they look dumb
Watched the first episodes of Lances and Masks as well as Heavy Object. Masks I won't watch more of, was just kind of dumb I think. Heavy Object will get more views, though the "mech" concept is just kind of nonsensical IMHO.
Watched Return of Kings. Meh. Animation and fight choreography were alright, but they wouldn't let the damn camera angle sit still at all so it was hard to tell what exactly was going on. Extremely blatant and IMHO not even well done fan service with the only non-child female to get much of any screen time. Constant close ups of t and a, poor jiggle physics, and of course she's the only one in the fight to have her clothing damaged.
AduroT wrote: Watched the first episodes of Lances and Masks as well as Heavy Object. Masks I won't watch more of, was just kind of dumb I think. Heavy Object will get more views, though the "mech" concept is just kind of nonsensical IMHO.
Pfft, it's a truly reliable design, you ignorant knave. It helped out the mighty Foot Clan in the Great Mecha Wars of the 80s.
Jokes asides, it was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the first Heavy Object. I also loved how they said "The objects were first introduced by a certain island nation.". This must be the author's attempt to mention Japan and be subtle about it. As subtle as a brick to the face.
I'm willing to give Lances a try, but really I'm here this season for YuruYuri and Is this Order a Rabbit??
I mean, how often do we get two comedy anime a season (probably fairly often, but this time I'm actually aware of them to watch them in the same season.)
Still need to finish Snow White, though... guess my weekend plans are set

The thing that gets me is they talk about that first object and having armor so tough it survives a direct hit from a nuclear weapon, but then all the clips we've seen so far shows a single shot from an object being able to pierce clear thru an enemy object. If the new weapon tech is that strong, why don't we ditch the giant armored ball and stick them on something more nimble? Will have to wait and see if that's something they address.
I just noticed One Piece is on Crunchyroll. I've always wanted to see that anime since I was 10, and now, after I've finished part 3 of Jojo, I can finally tackle that.

Yeah, I heard. 800+ episodes. Might take it like Bleach and have small interludes in between story arcs.
New season of Noragami is out ! : DDDDD And the new Gundam series starts tomorrow, and the new season of K is out! An this is only shows that I know are gonna be good, thank you based fall lineup
I watched most all of One Piece, but there were a few filler arcs I skipped, most notably the guy who escaped from jail one, because of how jarringly interruptive that one was.

Pfft. Put it on in the background while farming WoW. Well.. that would work for the English dubs. Subs... ehh actually give it a couple hundred episodes and you'd know enough of what they're saying w/o subtitles so my suggestion stands
Watch the first hundred or two episodes and you won't need to look up too often. You'll have the characters' names down and understand enough of the tone/key phrases to know what's going on most of the time
