The house is modular too and flexible in build design. It's a very nice kit from what I've been told...
Eomer is coming.

Now, I'm sure the old Battle Games in Middle Earth magazine series from de Agostini had plans for that exact type of watch tower and pallisade.

Oooohh I see the Wildmen of Dunland and Dunlending warband hiding in that list! That's fantastic!

You're not wrong. The Dunlending warriors are some really nice sculpts. The captain could even pass as for a Rohan captain without much work.

Post by: Kroem

Yea really nice sculpts and also their importance to the story, they formed a big part of Isenguard's forces at the Battle of Helms Deep after all.

I only need Dunlending bowmen, but looks like they might not be sold separately :(

Post by: Kroem

Yea looks like you'll need to make some swaps to just get bowmen, an injection of new models into the world supply might make prices come down on auction websites as well.

Well this is interesting, previously unreleased model becoming available anyone? Also worth noting that the models are being done in metal, even ones that were in finecast before.

Was hoping they'd redo them in plastic. They're great RPG minis too.

This was expensive day. Rohan village and scout command(that 2 handed captain...need to armour it up)

This was what I put on Reddit, but here's my thoughts on the supplement release:

Positives:

  • Isengard command packs grouped more logically into armoured and scout packs. Returning miniatures aplenty in these (especially the scout banner and alternate shaman).
[list] Scout Uruk with the axe is back/released. These were so hard to get hold of, great addition to the range.

  • These Isengard command packs contain miniatures that had previously been moved from metal to resin are now back as metal! Never thought I would see this, and I guess that quashes the rumours that GW destroyed all the original metal moulds back in 2012 with Finecast?

  • Good re-releases for Rohan in terms of heroes. More variety is always welcome

  • The terrain kits look incredible and versatile

  • Dunlendings return! With additional characters from FW hopefully?

  • The scenarios and legions from the sourcebook sound great, especially by giving a focus on a pure Uruk army, and the additions to siege rules!

  • Negatives:

  • Price increases across the board. Cavalry prices are becoming ridiculous, especially for Rohan Royal guard which are a must buy with Theoden led forces. Per model they've effectively gone up by £1.80, for sculpts from 2002 with very limited poses. In the armoured Uruk command group they've removed a model- put in another banner bearer or captain sculpt at least!

  • Feral Uruks at £15?!

  • Not applicable to most, but I would like the option to buy some of the Dunlendings piecemeal given I already own 6 of the warriors with shields from when they were last on sale. Buying the large pack will leave me with lots of a conversion fodder/painting practice I guess? I suppose the pack is inline with the warband groupings for battle companies.

  • Also per GW:
In a tangentially related topic, a few weeks ago we mentioned that some of the Middle-earth kits would be cycling out of the range to make way for all the new and returning goodies. Right now that’s taking place, with the following kits sailing into the west – at least for now:

    Wood Elf Command
    Wood Elf Sentinels
    Arnor Command
    Warriors of Arnor
King Arvedui & Malbeth the Seer
    Mahud King
    Mahud Raiders
    Mahud Warriors
    Mahud Warriors with Blowpipes
    Barrow Wights
    Gulahvar, the Terror of Arnor
    Dead Marsh Spectres
    Shade

While some (or all) of these may return to the range in the future, if you want to add them to your collect in the near future, pick them up right now while stocks last.

Some already have gone from the UK store so act quickly I guess.

That stronghold pack is looking rather appealing, as its priced for just the 6 houses.

Less variety to the sprues than I hoped, though.

The strangest thing with these re-releases is not the price increases (I mean.. it's GW), but the sheer inconsistency of them.
-The hero blisters (foot and mounted variants) are around the same price they have been for many years, which is excellent.
-The warband sets of infantry, though in some cases not ideal when only interested in a few with a specific weapon option, are good value overall.
-The Sons of Eorl are hit by a marginal price increase (assuming they were the same price as other metal cavalry before).
-But then the Royal Guard are more expensive than that, despite being a repack that includes more figures?
-And the Ferals.. I don't even know where to begin with the Ferals. A 60% price increase compared to what they were/other comparable packs? Twice the price of the Wildmen of Dunland the webstore conveniently places them next to for easy comparison. Ridiculous.

Oh they sold out by 10:01 in the UK.

Preorders are supposed to go Live at 10:00, but apparently they went up early by at least 09:56.
    I logged in at 09:59.
    Tried to Checkout at 10:01.

    gak out of luck.

For months people have been telling me its my fault for not being online at 10am. Well this time I was and I still fething missed out. Thanks for moving the goalposts GW.

Thats 4 releases in a row now that I've missed out on Cards, Dice etc. It shouldn't be this damn hard to give my money to a business.

On every occasion except the times I was in work, the items I wanted (cards, dice) sold out when I had them in my basket and was trying to check out.

From my understanding, they've failed to make the dice a maximum of 1 pack per order. If that's true, it's no wonder they sell out within minutes. While some customers might want an additional set for themselves or a friend, by allowing somebody to just purchase 10 at once you're only ever helping the scalpers.

Khorne cares not from where the blood flows, and I guess GW cares not from where the money flows, only that it flows without cease for all eternity.

Dunlendings look nice enough, though I'm not a fan of the standard barbarian/viking style they've gone for (and already went for with the initial metal warriors of Dunland). Something Dark Age Celtic inspired as somewhat hinted to in the books would simply have been more interesting and unique, though I'm sure vikings will be more recognizable and better sellers. Still, good to see them finally have enough choices to really be a viable faction on their own - it's about time!

I'm not surprised, that two handed captain came out of nowhere and that's always been the more popular shaman sculpt.

So five web shops I buy wargaming stuff from in the UK have pages 404ing that previously had the Isengard Dice Set on offer on Saturday.

And Dark Sphere have indicated that they're unsure they will be getting in the stock they requested from Games Workshop.

So good to finally see a Middle-earth scenery kit designed with the same care and ingenuity typically seen in 40k sets - standardized dimensions and interchangeable parts that practically combine in various ways even before considering taking a knife or saw to the pieces. Excellent stuff, and the apparent popularity (the bundle set sold out rapidly) hopefully means we'll see more in the future. I know there have already been two sets of ruins, but imagine one designed like this.. yes please!

To be fair, the Laketown houses had the same modularity designed with them. They're both extremely good scenery kits.

I don't own the Lake-town kit, but I was not under the impression it is designed in quite with the same level of flexibility in mind - e.g. to create houses twice as long or high. I've seen a few people make something along those lines, but such modifications appeared to require a saw and the filling of some gaps. Even with the two-sided walls, there's a reason those houses all end up looking pretty similar. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice kit, but it doesn't appear to be as good as this one from that point of view. And of course, it was released in isolation, while here we have walls, a tower and a house all in the same style and with partially interchangeable bits, which naturally expands the possibilities a fair bit.

Helm Hammerhand is interesting looking. Quite a departure from the rest of the Rohan line.

Which is what I like. How many centuries between LOTR and Helm\s time? Too bad it's not feasible to have whole rohan line receiving alternative sculpts in same style to make old times looking rohan force.

Already up in the FW thread but the invisible ringbearers are up for a week only.
Also Rosie Cotton and Gaffer and flower pots. And i have to say, Rosie and the flower pots are quite possibly some of the cutest models i have ever seen.

And what would the difference be? It's not that they're bad looking Vikings, but they're just....they're just that.

Sadly I agree. I was vaguely hoping for a plastic dunlending box (despite low odds of that happening). ~$30-40 for 3 resin models is just no.

Not sure how that's an "ongoing struggle with LOTRSBG" as Dunlendings are just one small group in a pretty extensive range of typically rather more unique looking figures...
Though I did wish they hadn't gone for this look. If I wanted to play Vikings, I'd play any of a number of games which feature them; Middle-earth should be a bit more interesting.

Same; thought they were a pseudo-Made-to-Order kit like the Bard/Tauriel/Legolas set a while back, not a limited availability option...

I think he's vaguely implying that LoTR minis are somewhat generic and while he likes them it's cheaper to get similar minis else where?
