Totally not Bushido, but I was in a racing mood I guess when I woke up. So about to make a flying charger . While looking at random Thingiverse items I found jet tire replacements for hotwheels tires. The jet engines are printing now .
Going more than 88mph
Edit:
Pegasus takes flight.
Edit2:
Jet engines on the top of the car as it already had cool enginey stuff on the trunk. The print actually stopped with a few layers left to go (I’m having an issue with the memory card right now, reformatting to fix that), but no real damage.
The Torii and three zones of control are for Bushido. The three were different sizes to start with, one was an 60mm, 100mm and a 125mm all that got printed at 100mm for use on the board.
Stopped by Miniaturemarket, almost bought indomitus , actually almost bought two . Slapped myself silly then saw a Dark Eldar army box ($170 with 40% off) and almost bought that . Saw lots of nice things to buy, ended up just buying a sad lonely box of Frostgrave Cultists . So no worries I’m home to another flawed print, but it was a tiny one and will prime some other stuff later to possibly paint this week.
Well, you're a better man than I, I went onto amazon to get some new brushes and saw both display Wonder Woman and Kite Man on offer Love the Pegasus, perfect for Martian Racing
Nice work on the "resist large mini buy" save. Flying car is a bit of brilliance. Tracks look cool, and I wouldn't be upset if you decided to build a vank.
youwashock wrote: Nice work on the "resist large mini buy" save. Flying car is a bit of brilliance. Tracks look cool, and I wouldn't be upset if you decided to build a vank.
A Vank might come at some point in the future, but I saw another car that was crying to be a bad . So I give you HotRodimus.
The front grill I just thought about printing a Roman style face on to really drive the name home.
Front ground clearance is fine, the back side is like a GW tank design . Or he just likes to drop it low .
Also yesterday a four part kit made Shifty The Skull. A gear phase tracker. It hasn’t the 6 gear phases and you move the shifter to keep track of the phase of the turn for the whole table.
I’m having issues with the machine stopping mid print again and not registering it. The half print I got was beautiful, I just can’t recover it. I was meant to be a gift this morning, guess it’ll wait as that person didn’t know they were getting it and it’s not a birthday or anything.
As for the congrats on not buying an army .
I placed another order with GCTstudios.com (Bushido). It’s all preorder stuff so won’t ship until the 4th of September, but it’s all the new Minimoto clan people (doubles what they had) and the new Wolf clan starter and special character who is basically the characters from the Lone Wolf and Cub comics, books, movies and plays. Also a monk who is not Raiden because she is a chick and a face like Bruce Jenner .
I'm always impressed by the quantity of your output, while making no sacrifice to the quality.
The gear phase tracker is nice. I recently found an old console panel from a motor boat that I'm planning to mod into a gear phase counter for my table. But, it's a project that is on the back burner. Actually, more like on a really far away back-burner in a distant house on someone else's property.
Viterbi wrote:That's a nice conversion, wouldn't want to go up against that Hot Rod
And He's not even armed yet . Thanks

That sounds like a great idea. I had seen an actual gear shifter at the local car parts place about a year ago, but it was out of the price range at the time. This will definitely work though.
What won't work is my printer and blue painters tape. I need to order a new build plate as the current one tore from all the abuse I put them through. I'm not sure about switching to glass, may have to give it some thought. My wife and I went out to hang with some friends so I started to print a D6 turn counter die for gasslands. Most looks okay, but the painters tape came loose and the top layer is all up. there's some lines at the half way point where it all shifted as well, so a 6 hour print wasted. I also have to look at my Cura settings because even though I know I put the infill down as lines it did cubic infill. extra time and material used.
So this mornings production was poor overall, but I did get the two part base and mounting gimble done for my Pegasus.
. The side to side motion is very limited, but forward and back is great.
Just started a print for a dual counter for both Hazard and Gear. I think it was about a 3 hour print. Hopefully all goes well with it. I also have a 30+ hout terrain print I want to consider once I get the bed all fixed. Off to amazon.
"Mounting gimble" is a real word? Looks great and now you just need more flying cars like Coulson's oldtimer, some Blade Runner police cars and so forth
MASK . Not that I forgot about that, just hadnt thought about printing any of that. I’ll have to look tonight if there are .stl files. I have some of the toys still. Grasshopper and the tow truck.
“The primary gamble is acting up again.” See if anyone gets that reference .
The Gaslands wasteland continues to grow.
The bus has curling issues on the corners, but that can be fixed with some “dirt”.
Cura downloaded version 4.7.0 and wiped out my settings. Just spent an hour reloading them. Some new updates, so we will see how the new print turns out when I get home tonight. Taking another set of the jersey plastic orange barricades off the printerin a minute.
The Gaslands stuff is looking great. I've not come across muck MASK stuff in my searches, just a couple of helmets that are designed to go on 28mm figures
I made the mistake of rewatching some of the cartoons recently... don't go back, it's bad :/

They all are. I think that was the point. The bigger plot holes allowed kids to be creative and write themselves in per se. the concepts were good guy vs bad guy which is easier to handle. No moral ambiguity. There weren’t people who were trying to do a bad thing for a good reason. Today we like complexity of character, but it really makes for grey areas, which was too much for our tiny brains. Plus every show had a kid sidekick and some sort of comic relief (the son and his scooter in mask) which even though they got in trouble, they always helped in the end.
I think it was more the 5 minute "who am I going to pick for the team this episode" segment that just reused the same animations over and over because in the early stages they only had about 3 toys to sell for the good guys
GI Joe on the other hand actually has some pretty good plots (with the odd exception) with reasonable characterisation going on in there somewhere. What's with the weird voices on the villains though?!
endtransmission wrote: the 5 minute "who am I going to pick for the team this episode" segment
I've got a heist-loving buddy who keeps wanting me to rewatch MASK precisely because of the Getting The Team Together segments. I've so far passed, given how naff 80s cartoons are since I've taken my nostalgia goggles off (they never fit great anyway )
Very inspiring Gaslands stuff! I 100% should be using my printer for that too But have been suffering through a lot of failed prints thanks to presupports failing on heavy bits, like the mech chassis that fell off its supports and adhered to the plastic lining. First time for me, but was happily pretty easy to pop off.
I'm going to have to rewatch the series now . I almost forgot about those scenes. It also reminds me of a TV show (live action parent stuff) from that time. I think it was masquerade. Anyway the government was using civillians to do the spy work because the spies had all been outed.
Hopefully my next Risen Sun order ships Friday. That's the release date anyway. Though Gaslands has really been a good break for me with getting hobby love back.
Tried rewatching MASK some time ago on Prime and I fear they didn't leave those plot holes, because they thought kids were creative, but they wouldn't notice. I found it quite amazing that pre-school shows like Paw Patrol feel smarter than the stuff we watched as kids But despite that I'm still sad that I don't have my old MASK toys anymore
Well, my memory cards both glitched, so had to reformat them. No big loss especially with the cura 4.7.0 downloaded on the desktop. The new program and the more powerful desktop slices files really quickly so deleting 30 files is more hassle than problem.
Also printed another Gaslands terrain piece and saved 6 hours by dropping resolution and removing the raft, I didn’t notice any quality difference, so I just dropped resolution again and starting a 15 hour print (42at highest resolution with a raft). I’ll see in the morning how it looks, if resolution is too bad I’ll stop it and start over.

Yeah, I have the open rebellion box and all the new Minimoto items coming as well. Hopefully they have shipped with release date of 9/4/20 and not waiting till friday to release them. Shipping really has not been too long from them with my previous orders as they use airmail. I just have to pick it up before the wife sees it as it has the price clearly labeled on the outside of the package .

I found a place stateside(Game Kastle) that discounts stuff during preorders and stocks Bushido, but then is MSRP after that. Just have to wait patiently for it now...
Apparently The Warstore and eFigures going away left a big problem for stuff like this. I'm totally not counting the days for my Open Rebellion set. Also totally haven't planned a small diorama or something. Noooope.

Iain Lovecraft is running a new kickstarter that includes all the first release .stl files and as many more for everything from a simple bridge through village houses and two story buildings to a 'Musashi' style castle. Even though already backed the first campaign, I'm backing this one because of all the new material.

I've got a couple pics of things I've printed on my thread and should have some painting to show off shortly.
I linked that a few posts above, but it needs more visibility, I just don't want to start a News and Rumors thread. I have too much going on. It
s doing really well too, over 60K when I looked last. Lots of stretch goals done. I thought about getting the level where I could sell prints, but I won't even have enough time to print my own stuff .
My Bushido Order shows it shipped yesterday . Wolves, Bears and Ninjas oh my.
Hope everyone (or at least those who had the long weekend) enjoyed themselves
I didn’t get to get nearly as much accomplished as I had hoped this week. My 64mb microSD keeps getting corrupted and loosing prints part way through the process. I think I had 4 big fails for a 15-20hour print loss this week because of it. I think I’ll just save a few prints onto that drive, mainly small ones that I can do while I’m near the printer to catch any failures early.
I did play around with some settings, but have reverted back to my core settings as the adjusted ones each had their own issues. Some take aways from doing some adjustments. Really tiny prints don’t need rafts, but doing multiple tiny prints all at once you need rafts as the one print will cool while your on another print and will come loose from the bed.
Gaslands is staying the focus right now for printing. Definitely lots of cool prints to be done out there, Some I’ll have to get better with the computer to accomplish.
I need to go shopping for some more cars. Need a third low cost car for my Highway patrol.
Found prints for the police lightbars , and also for their ram bars.
I’m thinking of going low firepower with them, handguns only, though the blue car will have some sort of dropper weapon as I glued a set of dune bar headlights to the back and they look good enough for smoke/oil/glue droppers. I might try and print a motorcycle guy tonight to have three in the 50 can range and then I can tool up the others more with skills.
While at Miniaturemarket this weekend I found out that the second Edition of Frostgrave has been delayed . They didn’t say why or how long, but eluded to Osprey having pushed back a few titles like Frostgrave, Oathmark and a couple others. I’m sure the Pandemic has a lot to do with it, but I hope it gets sorted soon. I have my copy on preorder from them and I am looking forward to seeing this next installment.
I'm sorry to hear that your memory card keeps failing Theo, that must be very frustrating. More bits? I wonder what can be done for your cards to stop corrupting.
Looking good, love the lights and rams. For cops I like a harpoon, good to jam folk up so you can run them down, but dropper weapons work a treat too. Sticking a boost or taking something built for nothing but speed can be good to get in front of awkward customers.
Sorry, just not feeling much lately and finishing more Gaslands terrain and stuff has slowed me down. Also still waiting on the Bushido stuff to arrive .
I found a model on Thingiverse last night that made me laugh and I had to print it. I’m considering reprinting it at twice the size because detail was damaged, though not too terribly, and make it a statue or terrain piece .
Picture is bad, but it’s two mark III space marines doing a ballet pose .
I was just going to put this in the hill of shame to paint in my next lifetime, but then I saw this months painting challenge is “The Long War”. Sometimes war can go on too long and you wind up with a couple Corporal Klingers who should be section 8’d right out of the military. I haven’t joined the competition, and probably won’t, but it’s just silliness that happened to all come together in my mind.
The big question is,”what army colors should they be in?”
1. One Purple and one yellow, striking colors, and it would be Dorn realizing its time to send the Emperor’s Children envoy back as he might be causing too much of a distraction.
2. Two Emperors Children traipsing through the dead on Istavaan
3. Two tactical marines training to be Assault marines flying through the air (I’m thinking Blood Angels here)
4. Your suggestions
Paint them yellow...angry marines style... (sorry for the long lurking... i´m just soooooo envious for your 3d printer...and work life balance is currently a bit ugly... and a new flat...and...so on...wearing masks alll the time too... )
Sorry to hear about the lull. Sure you will hit a mojo vein pretty soon. Hopefully painting your DWTSM (dancing with the space marines) mini will help.

The prodigal Brother has returned . Glad to have you back Working face to face with patients and family at the hospital now I am GLAD to wear a mask at all times. It's like people don't know there's a pandemic going on. I have to ask everyone travel questions every day and I'm getting people going to all theHotspots in the USA because the hotel rates and costs are so cheap right now
As for Angry Marines, I actually thought about painting them in their Arch Nemesis colors (the Pretty Marines). Maybe I should do a diorama with them and then Angry Marines about to attack them . Truly the Long War.
Viterbi wrote:Loving those two, they surely are having the time of their life. Just paint them in the colors of Swayze‘s and Grey‘s clothes
Just rewatched that with the family a few weeks ago. I may have to give one boob armor if i do it

I think it might. I have been taking things way too seriously lately, and just need the comic relief.
I started the printer just now. the 150% size will take 27hours to print. Hopefully all comes out well. I probably only needed to do 10-15%larger to make the print better, but if I'm going to make this a display or even just a desk piece, I'm going to double the time and get a good print.
So typical me, I saw something on the dinged shelf at Miniature Market a few weeks ago and started investigating it (Ragnarok: The Abyss by Osprey Games). I am in no way a Viking afficianato, I just think that time period/style is over done, but I like the spin on the game. You see the game is a skirmish game set after Ragnarok happens (well, maybe not the textbook Ragnarok). The Dragon escapes and devours the roots of the world tree causing it to topple over merging all the worlds. The Gods are all killed/shattered and their powers are loose. You play a warband battling for power and as you fight your group gains power and can unleash it during the game. Anyway MM didn't have the main rules in stock lately and just the dinged copies of the one expansion. They got some in last week when I picked up Frostgrave 2nd edition and I almost bought all three books of Ragnarok, but decided against it. I then regretted it when I got home and was about to order it, but got sidetracked. Today the core book and the first expansion went on sale at MM, so I wound up saving about $10 more and will pick all three books up later this week. Now to start planning out some prints for table decoration and find models to play with. ( Almost forgot I have all the Blood Rage models I can use ).
I really am enjoying the stuff Osprey has put out. Printing lots of Gaslands lately and just picked up second edition of Frostgrave as well. Theres also a few others they are putting out soon such as Gamma Wolves (Stompy Robot combat) and Oathmark (Warhammer battles style game).
inmygravenimage wrote: Osprey just churn out quality goods and don't care who knows it. Chin up, young pup.
Yep, brings me back to the good old days of beer and pretzel games.
Meanwhile.....back in the world of cheap FDM printing
Lord (of the Dance) Borak is breaking in a few good men for a Ballet of Death. Sometimes the Long War has just gone on too long .
There are just too many great models out there to print.
Took today and tomorrow off to take care of some family stuff before opening my new office on Monday, so since I had to run out near Miniaturemarket anyway I figured I’d pick up my order and grabbed some frostgrave barbarians to use for Frostgrave and Ragnarok.
My Osprey shelf is getting larger and larger, and I don’t have a problem with it at all. The above picture is about $80 between the sale and the Abyss book having some cover blemishes.
Having remembered that I have the Blood Rage models too (after I forgot and bought the frostgrave barbarians ) means I should be well set for a while.
I know there have been some kickstarters and Patreons for Norse and Viking items, but Thingiverse really is bereft of choices and paying some of the crazy prices I’ve seen on the other .stl sites is not my jam .
Edit: Mail showed up That’s all the September prereleases. (Doubling the size of the Minimoto clan),the core box of the Shiho clan and the Not-Lone Wolf and Cub model. Also a Robin character (the grey Pilgrim) that can be used in the Temple, Minimoto and Shiho clans. Replacement cards for the Ninjas including the Event Exclusive Bikou model.
I might start assembling and may even prime them tonight or in the morning. I have to decide if I’ll strip and repaint the Temple models I already had and the Minimoto models as well. I have one new Ninja not painted like the others, but I might be able to replicate it. The Temple models I could possibly also paint close enough to the others, but I don’t think I could match the Minimoto scheme.
Edit2: also started painting a Blood Rage model for Ragnarok, got pretty far, but still a lot of details to pick out.
I should not have done the loincloth in dark blue/grey . I’ll try and cover it later in browns.
I’ll prime tomorrow, got all the parts assembled. No where near as bad as Infinity or Malifaux parts, even with my fat fingers.
Those new Bushido figures look great, especially the ones in fur capes!
As for the blue loin cloth, just put lighter blues over the top and use the darker colour as the shadows; it'll look good. Too many browns in there can create a dull figure.
endtransmission wrote: Those new Bushido figures look great, especially the ones in fur capes!

I went over it with brown already, dull colors work for me, makes it more realistic to me.
Well got the two ladies from this clan done, need to search the other clans for models to use. Might get double duty in Frostgrave as well.
Basing still needs to get done, but at least it’s tabletop to me.
youwashock wrote: Let the paint flow! Those Bushido models look nice. Metal, too! Shiny!
Thanks , I am definitely feeling the paint flow today. I didn’t want to do grey wolves, or a black and a white one like I’d seen painted for these, instead I went brown.
I have to touch up the mouth and a leg, but otherwise I’m pretty happy.
Also started working on the Executioner and the Heir.
Not very far yet, but far enough to realize the feet are wearing tabi socks , tried to cover up the skin tone now.
The heir will get blue clothes and the Executioner will have some sort of print on the lower portion of his clothes. The rest of the clan will have the greys and muted beige colors too.
Jeeeeeeeeealous. Still waiting on mine here! Planning on copying the art for the wolves, since they're named it seems.
One comment on the browns--I'd darken up the fur so the rope 'collars' stand out a bit more, or highlight them up a bit more. They look to be blending into the fur a bit otherwise.
I’ll lighten up the collars tonight, my eyes need a break though. So many dots.
Watching 47 Ronin while painting.
The grey Pilgrim.
Think Raider from Mortal Kombat, just with bewbz . She is a Ronin that can be fielded with Temple, Minimoto or Shiho Clans. Lightning for you, Lightning for you and lightning for you
Lots of great new stuff, good to see so much painting progress. New models look very nice, also the grey pilgrim's sword over her shoulders is very weird
Viterbi wrote: Lots of great new stuff, good to see so much painting progress. New models look very nice, also the grey pilgrim's sword over her shoulders is very weird
Thanks Viterbi . Bushido has really great models and a fun game play mechanic. The sword over her shoulder is supposed to be a Naginata, or some form of Yari. Basically a polearm to chop the legs off of horses during a charge, or like a modified spear with a sword on the end. Extra reach with all the Killy parts still .
Also got the archer done. He isn’t sporting a Yumi, a great bow.
Supposedly knowing your own weakness makes you stronger
Well knowing I only had 3-4 more spaces for paint on the army painter rack and knowing how I tend to buy stuff on a whim means my weakness was not having extra space . So when I saw he design for the rack I already had had been improved on with “no-sag” bars to strengthen it I decided to reprint the rack and make it wider. The three wide only held 90 bottles, now I have space for 150 .
Seems like a trip to Miniaturemarket may be in order .
I have the 90 bottle rack in reserve should I need it.
The new rack fits perfectly from the shelf on the right to the drawers on the left as well .
I am now printing more GW paint pegboard racks. Unfortunately there is a support bar diagonally across the back of the pegboard to the left of the GW racks which blocks me . I may actually glue some directly to the pegboard where that bar is if I cannot figure something else out. After filling the racks I already printed on the GW stuff it seems I may need twice as many as I have already. I not due to a lack of paint that keeps the piles from getting done .
No painting progress. Issues at the new office and trying to get it up and running on the 5th of October are putting me behind. Nothing I can really do about it, but mentally this week took a toll. Now getting the house cleaned to possibly have grandma over, but the wife also just took our youngest to get tested for strep throat. Hopefully that’s all it is as she gets out a lot.
Also, just saw GCT is estocking the store over this weekend........Which Faction should I order next?
I like the idea behind the Ito Clan (Was a samurai clan, but have found a temple to a strange snake god and now people are turning into snakes and getting the blessings of oruchi)
I could continue on with my Temple and try to complete their faction, maybe some of the animal Monks.
Cult of Yurei has some neat options including the undead, I could make a "Kingdom" type army (Think The walking Dead in Fuedal Korea The Syndicate could also be fun to build with all the Buto (Sumo) wrestlers and the circus style fighters and the gambling. Don't forget the gambling I'm not really feeling the Jung Pirates even though the KS I just backed did have a Korean boat or two . Also the chance to do water type boards intrests me.
Prefecture of Ryu is a very bland sort of army in my mind, straight up military, they just have black powder weapons too.
I don't live near Gits, but one day I plan on getting in a couple games with him, and since he has Tengu and the Savage Wave I will steer clear of those.
Not having a baby, though the stress has been worse. Youngest (Lillian 15), came home not feeling great on Friday. Though she is prone to having Strep throat, they are the same symptoms as Covid. We took her to urgent care and they ran a quick strep test which came back negative. Unfortunately, hers always comes back negative but when the samples are sent to the lab they come back positive, but it takes a few days. That office didn’t see the need for a Covid Test since she hasn’t been around a confirmed case, but she works as a busser and hostess at a local restaurant, so who knows. So Sunday we took her again to get the Covid Test at a different location and they wondered why we hadn’t done it sooner . We had isolated to be sure, and I missed a day I couldn’t afford to setting up my new work office, and with a 2-4 day turn around I was looking at missing way too much time.
Luckily last night we got the negative result (which is good) . Weight should be lifted, but I only slept three hours or so and have been having panic attacks all night. Stupid stuff, like having dropped my car off for some repairs and an inspection, and having left paperwork in the car that I’ll need later this week. Not today but before Monday for sure . Then not remembering where I had left my work badge, which I had the brilliant idea of putting in my lunch bag so I wouldn’t lose it . I had never lost it before keeping it with my wallet, but I outdid myself. Dug through all my laundry twice and thinking I had left it in my car with the papers .
Anyway I’m up and can’t slow down my brain. My heart is going like someone hit me with adrenaline a couple times. Already sweating the day and my cats are staring at me wondering if I’ll be tasty soon.
Good Times.
The fun stuff.
One print/four pegboard arms and a bunch of dowels gives me two racks to hold the paint. I am liking these racks because it feels like I’m holding more paints, even though they take up about the same foot print on the wall. The biggest part is that the four arms take four hours to print and about the material of one of the other style GW prints. The other style prints took three hours each and only holds four paints. So even with needing to buy 7 dowels for a row, I thinking this will be much more economical of a space saver. My total space side to side that I can put the GW paints is 34”, just under 1 meter.
Also just above the leftmost section is a paint drying rack for 30mm bases. It has 5 rings to keep the bases from moving about if the desk is bumped. I think I’ll probably do a row of those across the top of the first layer of GW paints and then do a second shelf to hopefully hold the remainder of my collection of paints.
The closest FLGS is finally getting GW stuff back in “Soon”. They have been out since February or March and had sold all their stock off to Miniaturemarket during the Covid closure. Not sure what I will actually buy besides paint, but it and CCG were their major sources of income.
I have had a desire to build and buy a contingent of Palanite enforcers and Subjucators with a pair of Ambots as Breaching tools . Then I saw Git’s blog post with the Mechanicus dog riders and though I could build a mounted unit of officers , but it would be more just for fun than for any game......still.
Glad your daughters test came back negative, we had similar after my daughter developed a cough. All negative, but it really does cause stress!
The peg boards are great, the 4 pot racks look cool, but that is a fair bit of printing time. I’m very jealous of your hobby space, mine is in the loft with sloping ceilings preventing me going for a similar system.
my wife and my youngest son have been tested.. both negative so far... i guess in the course of time in the end i will get it... i work in at school... care in the afternoon... and frankly... not getting it while time marches on would be enough to justify winning in a lottery...with all the parents carelessness going on...

I just wish I had found the newer racks sooner, I think I wasted a whole spool ($23) printing those and I could have done other things with my time. As for space, the back of my chair I saw next to the furnace, so you make space where you can. Find an old shelf and attach pegboard to the side, it really can help with organizing.

I know what you mean. Working at the church and at a hospital is like putting two rounds extra in the Russian roulette pistol and then playing by yourself. Add in a teenager who works at a restaurant and another teen who works at fast food and it’s a short game. Just lots of hand washing and I always wear a mask, except to sleep and shower. I’m so used to them that I have on more than one occasion tried to eat while wearing it and stained the darn thing .
Printing another big beastie right now. The head alone is 22 hours and the chest is a full day plus some. I might try to swing by the other of two game stores near my new worksite. The last one I checked out last week was more of a D&D and card game store, but they raved about the miniatures at the second shop. Though I may have convinced this shop to carry Frostgrave and Ragnarok by talking to the owner since they sell bones and pathfinder miniatures. They are great cheap add on sales generators for shops that sell those models anyway.
I know what you mean. Working at the church and at a hospital is like putting two rounds extra in the Russian roulette pistol and then playing by yourself. whoa... for me this "thing" is still something like wearing a gasmask.... it´s always in the way, interferes with social feelings, gestures and facial expressions... i can´t count how often i had to explain that i was smiling or laughing under that damn rug... ... working in a hospital..ok... kind of you knew what you was coming your way.... but when you are meddling with 5- 10 year olds ( me...) or my wife (toddlers) you´re absolutly out on open ice... i still hope against hope that the mask thing will be gone....sooooonish... (my wife is currently again at a point where she thinks it will be a new kind of civil thing... and come what may never will leave us ever again...sounds moody...right?...)
speaking about printing... have you known that the PLA is also possible to be made from corn and other vegetable ingredients? i recenlty ordered me a D&D kitchen set... (building a giant playable multilevel tavern for a school project for my son...) and its quite smooth too...

Yep, corn or even rice is the main ingredient of PLA. It’s renewable and chewable .
Oh and when I took the new job it’s at our children’s hospital, so yeah.....all ages of kids newborn to 20year olds with disorders of all kinds. Some wear the masks no problem. Others will fight you worse than any Karen you can find online . I know what you mean about needing to tell people your smiling. If they aren’t close enough to see your eyes then they can’t tell your smiling. Plus our corporate just changed policy again, so no patterns or writing on the masks. I understand why, but really, were a children’s hospital and it’s fun to have superhero masks or characters on them.
oh...that is indeed a pretty lame move from the management...individuality keeps us from further mask frustration in my opinion... remember trapper john MD? they had even surgical caps in different designs......
Others will fight you worse than any Karen you can find online .
brilliant line... but I understand kids rejecting the mask... what is more troublesome is grown ups in good health with docs at their side giving them permissions for not wearing it due to so called medical conditions...(i´ve seen peeps that need these permissions...and still wearing them... and then an old granny on her bike with gloves and the mask....what a funny odd world tto live in...) sorry for the mask rant...
Glad the tests came back ok! I know what you mean about the security cards though. I have to leave it with my phone at all times, otherwise I'd lose it immediately!
The painting area is looking great. I really need to go through my paints and work out a better system. I do get the feeling it would be cheaper to get something laser cut though

It’s not really to stifle individuality, but more to keep the extremism down. It’s no surprise that we had a lot of civil unrest with the Black Lives Matter movement during the Covid pandemic and this ridiculous election. It only takes one person making a mask with any sort of message on it that can stir up trouble with a bunch of people, and we are there to help kids, not to politicize medicine. Some designs were great, others were nice attempts, some were just sad.

So I guess at some point this month I'll begin painting a model for the monthly competition .
Copied from round 68 painting challenge blog.
Okay, so this will be another month i say i'll play and won't get it done . Just so happens i was printing this monstrosity and it will take most of the weekend and part of the next week to finish . H's a big boy.
Just to give an idea of the completed model.
four armed and four axe wielding Chaos Dwarf mechanical beast of Destruction.
Each axe takes about 9hours. his two arm sections are each 20+ hours. his right leg just started a bit ago, hopefully it will be done when i wake up in the morning before work.
Well printing is MOOOOOOOO-VING along . His right leg finished in time for me to start his 23hour long arm. Then it’s just another 19 hour arm and three more 9hour long axes. After that it’s painting , always the hardest part. This thing is a beast in all sense of the word. Easily the size of a knight. It has the Chaos style armor plates which could make it fit nicely with all the Khorne giant robot things like the brass scorpion.
I’m not really impressed with this months patreon from Titan-Forge. Just really holding out for my 6 month subscription bonus model the Oni Bushi. I guess I’ll wait to see previews of the next few months offerings before deciding.
I know what you mean about this month not being the most inspiring. I do need a Witch Hunter for Warhammer Quest though and the villagers can go beat up the pub patrons if I ever manage to print that thing up. The mega-Cow looks pretty impressive so far, can't wait to see what you do with him.
I really do not know how you have the patience to go ahead with marathon 23 hour long printing sessions Theo, I would be constantly checking and worrying about the progress.
All told would you say the printer has been your best hobby purchase ever???
I only have the patience that working two jobs affords me. Keeping busy means I can’t always sit by the machine. The Right arms finished early this morning. The left arms are printing and should be done by midnight. That leaves two horns at 3 hours each, and three more axes at 9 hours each. Anyway, this guy is immense as you all keep saying.
Now must stop myself from building a Dark Mechanicus army .
I'm really glad the test came back negative for your daughter. I'm sorry that it understandably affected you so strongly. Hang in there and don't be too hard on yourself, nothing makes me more forgetful than sleep deprivation.
Also your paint setup looks beautiful.
Kanluwen wrote: Hey Theo, how hard would it be to run a piece of string onto the bows from the Open Rebellion set?
Just got a shipping notice for mine, so was hoping to get some insight from someone who is already painting the darn things!
Putting a sting on should not be a problem, just need to make sure it is thin as most times I see people do it makes it look like they are using the mooring ropes from the titanic on their bows.
My daughter is having two surgeries today. One a cosmetic repair on her ear from pulling her earring through the side of her earlobe and then the other your basic tonsils and adenoids. Having opened my office yesterday, I can’t take the day off , but since they limit the number of visitors anyway (I could get in since it’s at my hospital and I have my badge still), she is fine with momma being there.
Having adjusted the print settings to reduce the flow rate by 5% has made the supports really easy to remove, less stringing and cut almost an hour off the print time. I haven’t seen any drawbacks from it yet, but I’ll keep looking at the next few prints.
In the mean time, the beast is all printed. Welcome to lord Boraks used Minotaur shop.
lord Borak doesn’t sell lemons, so if you complain he will make some lemonade....out of you .
I’ll try and prime it all black tonight when I get home. Have to get the oldest up to go take her ACT test. Busy day all around.
Looks wild, Theo. Annoyingly Tanaka Muna's Daikyu was broken in either packing or shipping or it just wasn't a good cast....happily that means that adding a string to it should actually be easier! I used fishing line once before on a Waywatcher, might try that route again.
The surgeries and everything sound wild. Sorry to hear everything's piling on to you this year!
I'm 95% sure Titan Forge created it to stand in for a K'daai Destroyer, an incredibly potent monster from WHFB 8E that FW made rules for but IIRC never made a model for. Looks like it hasn't survived the transition to AOS, tho I'd guess it's still kicking in T9A ... And would otherwise serve well as a giant in AOS or greater obsidian golem in KOW
That said, it's one helluva beast, props on pushing it through
Thanks guys for the feedback, thoughts and prayers.
Not much time this morning, headed to church to get some stuff taken care of, just wanted to show that the beast has been primed and base layers of metal applied. More layers later when time permits.
Head
Horns
Torso and arms
Legs
Axes.
I’m thinking of making the horns and axe handles a different color, but will probably go leadbelcher like the mechanical parts. I’ll let the whim move me when I get there.
I didn't notice the mini for scale in the used minotaur shop until going back to look right now. I didn't realize how absolutely massive that beast is . it's looking great so far
That’s pretty awesome, I’m the proper sense of the word! It looks like it’ll be Titan size when it’s all put together. Can’t wait to see it in all its assembled glory!
The TItan-forge website lists it at 132mm tall. But that’s in their resin. Their resins are 28mm scale while the prints are set at 32mm scale if I remember correctly. So I think this will come out to 150mm tall (6”) if my mathematics is correct. Still, honking big.
Brass with agrax gloss wash. Null oil on the leadbealcher.
Not really liking the leadbelcher, good thing I went to Miniaturemarket and got some more iron colors.
I think iron warriors is what I’m more looking for with the dark metal. That to me looks more like the pig steel I would think chaos dwarves would forge.
I'm fond of Leadbelcher, but the again I need a lighter base. But the Iron Warriors looks interesting, hadn't seen that one before, may test this for some other stuff.
And my word is that model massive, really excited to see it glued together. Hope it holds!
Sorry for the absence. New work duties, schedule, daughter is doing great , mm back into and out of the hospital ....so basically life as usual. Oh, and the wife said we should think about getting another vehicle because the twins will be driving in six month, and our oldest should have learned a year and a half ago. So instead of date night last night we went and bought a minivan . Got done around 10:30 at night, was hungry for dinner at 7, so the guy could have sold me anything if he threw in a candy bar . The kids will get our older car, and my wife will use the van.
No painting has happened, no printing either, I think I killed my extruder. Haven’t had time or desire to mess with it with all the other stuff.
The iron warrior paint is like leadbelcher which has had a bulb oil wash or three, so perfect for what I wanted.
Pics later.
Also ordered the newest Bushido box set and a couple extra models that they released today. A new Ninja Master, so my Ninja army is still complete. A ronin samurai that works with Minimoto and Shiho I believe. I have to finish this beast at some point, so I can get back to Bushido.
Not so much progress as I have been too lazy to go downstairs for anything, but figured I could at least glue most of him together this morning for an idea of just how massive he is.
Iron Within: I redid all the steel with Iron warrior paint instead of leadbelcher. I like the effect.
Here he is with his center stone started as a huge chunk of Warpstone. I thought about doing it in orange, but I didn’t think it would go well with the brass.
You can’t see much detail here, just shear size.
Thanks guys. Just home from work. I’m at an impass with the trim work on this beast. Do I keep him all brass? Do I make the trim a different color? Or do I paint the panels? I like the brass, but I think it’s too much. Not sure I want to go red with it even though it screams Khorne to me .
Also more Bushido stuff was ordered Saturday morning .
Quick pic of last thing I printed before my printer f’d up. I think I have it going again, testing now.
Bushido model for scale.
So I told myself I wasn’t going to buy any Battletech figs because I’m not a fan of big stomps robots......
The legendary mech warriors box changed my mind. Being a Robotech fan I see a Zentradi officer pod and a Gladiator. Of course, they are really called marauders and archers . I then bought 4 blind box legendaries and two onimech blind boxes and got 3 more marauders and a Warhammer. I’m actually fine with a small fleet of marauders, not sure how they would play, but I love the look of them.
Not being a battletech person, it just never caught on in our gaming circles, I went with my own color scheme. They all will have a red canopy/cockpit, but everything else is up to each individual model. Mostly done in contrast paints.
The printer has been down for a couple weeks. I’ve been too busy to take time to try and fix it. It clogged again, but I think it’s possibly more than just that. I have too much to do to fight with it. The big brass beast is at a standstill. The hands are way rougher than I thought, to the point I want to reprint them, but timewise and with the printer down it’s another failed painting challenge.
inmygravenimage wrote: See you distracted me with ninja so I wanted to paint ninja. Does this mean I have to paint robots now you've painted snazzy robots?!
Do you have any Robot Ninja? Because a Snazzy Robot Ninja would be the bomb .
I was a big battletech player for years, right up until I discovered WHFBv3. I got rid of all my mechs many years ago, and regret doing so to this day. The Marauder was always my favorite. Seeing your work really brought out the nostalgia.
Well, somewhere, possibly in the city dump, there’s a shopping bag full of the Battletech/Mechwarrior heroclic figures. I had dropped a ton of money on them and never played . I might eventually find them again, but I’m not going to spend time looking for them.
Finished a third Marauder. I need to decide on basing for these guys.
That’s half the models that I have purchased painted up. I have a Archer and another Marauder I want to finish and two daisi and a Ryoken that I’m not too worried about as I don’t like their looks. They might be the best models in the game, I don’t know, but I am only concerned how they look right now .
I took about a half hour last night playing with the Ender3 and figured out that while I was changing a clogged nozzle I messed up the hot end extruder. A new one is coming tomorrow from Amazon. $14. So if anyone is wondering if it has been a money trap, I’d still answer NO. The big robot Minotaur to me was just one piece I made from the Ender and price wise a GW model the same size (Knight Castellan) cost the same as the printer if not more. Plus I have tons of terrain and models that I have built from it. Still probably the best hobby item I have ever bought.
So I have two more mechs to paint and a bunch of Bushido figures primed and some ordered and hopefully soon to be shipped. I’ll need to reprint the Axe hands for the Minotaur, then some Bushido terrain from my kickstart backing of Iain Lovecraft including the Junk ship he just released to backers.
I still need to organize my paint desk, the biggest part of my slow down was injuring the heel of my foot again so I realize I wasn’t walking up and down the steps, but now that’s healed up pretty well.
Good that you have come up with a solution, and it certainly seems to have given your hobby action a serious boost looking forward to more Theo madness!
Anyway, got the part for the printer in and it caused a runaway heating issue . Lots of smoke, no fire that I know of. Part got refunded and new heating element delivered today. Going to get that installed here now. Also picked up the rule book for Oathmark fantasy battles. So I’ve got some reading to do.
I know you've gotten a lot of good stuff out of it, but from here it seems like the 3-D printer must be quite the source of frustration, what with all the little things that can go wrong.
Have you had any time to work on the giant minotaur-golem thing?

No, between work (1.5hours of travel time added each day), school for the kids hitting the semester and needing to focus them, church starting to do actual renovations from the fire damage and the foot acting up I haven’t made time for much more than painting a couple battletech models in the last month.
The Minotaur is awaiting new hands and axes, which needed the printer working again. The printer has been great, the few problems I’ve had have each been relatively easy to overcome, just the resources haven’t been there to figure them out as fast as other things. It I should still the best investment I’ve made hobby wise that I can think of. When I had it running smooth it was cranking out terrain like nobodies business. This latest issue was more of me just being too hurt to take the trek downstairs and other priorities in the way. The part I ordered said it was for the Ender 3, but the connection wasn’t just right, so I ordered the Creality Ender 3 version which may have been $1 more, but it came with extra nozzles and silicone covers, so really was the better option. The first test print I started since the repairs today should be finishing shortly.
Mechs to date, still the two Daishi and the stormcrow (I think that’s what it was called) to paint, but they have been base coated.
I really love the Mechs. One of my favorite robot aesthetics. Probably the one game I really wish I played and had a collection of. But I just don't know where to start anymore.
THE NEW PART is working out great. This months Patreons from Titan forge will probably be my last, I haven’t been excited by their offerings lately, but this months is barbarians (Viking looking style) will work for my Ragnarok game. The two models I like out of the set the most, which my printer can handle are the Troll Mother and the Ice giant.
Troll momma.
Pardon the troll boob. Warlord samurai for scale. Yes, the troll momma I saw breast feeding Usagi’s drunk night love child .
well, it’s one of those models you just won’t find on many store shelves .
I’ve been printing the Ice giant from the same set since getting the printer running. His left arm and huge hammer shaft just started printing now. They will be ready when I get home tonight. The hammer head is another 4 hours and I redid the orientation of the cloak which brought the print time down from 15 hours to just 8, it might have a few more connection spures, but I can live with that. Anyway, he’s a big fellow.
8” from tip to base baby . The head (of the hammer sickos) might even make him grow bigger.
He did have an issue when I was undoing the supports and he lost his middle finger . I just imagine that at some point he grabbed and was about to eat some poor villager when they stabbed in between the finger joints to try and break his grip. He also lost a bit of his loin cloth, but nothing that would cause any embarrassment.
I love the fact he has a pot bellied pig tied to his waist .
I just like all the cool touches on him like the snapped boat prow as a shoulder pad and the door as a crotch guard....you know so no low blows . Never mind all the little people running around underneath your pants with swords.
reminds me of one of my old buddies jokes.
"How many canaries can you fit under a Scotsmans Kilt?"
@Yorkright, this is all FDM, Filament not resin. I prime most of it, but the ones I do not prime take paints just like other manufacturers plastics.
I repositioned the cloak and reslicing it. It’s down to an 8 hour print and has just started. It was at 15 hours before in the orientation that was set up by the designers, so we will see Howe the different set up comes out.
In the mean time....HAMMER TIME.
The left arm finished while I was at work yesterday and the separate head printed while I slept.
I’m tossed up about my next project. There’s a Viking style longboat 24hour print, a Viking styled hut which if I remember (old age) is a 30hour print. I have to redo the Axes for the Minotaur, and I have downloaded some battletech map terrain tiles.
I also need to get back to painting Bushido stuff .
Wellthe Norse house (small) finished last night and I started the new Cloak for the giant which should be done by the time I get home. There are some more stone markers, barrels, chests to do as well as all the Mast sections.
Plenty of terrain coming for Norse style table.
Local LGS had a BattleTech demo on Saturday, so I went up and got a 1mech learner game in. I was doing great till I took two direct PPC shots to the head . Amazing dice rolls just can't be beat. I had fun and they will be doing tournaments and campaigns every Saturday, so I might have a gaming outlet finally. Also another guy was trying to get Frostgrave going at the same time. I had to pick which game I was doing and I had brought my Mechs. He normally runs the game at Miniaturemarkets retail store, but they have the gaming space closed until at least new years. I'll try and stop by for the next demo of that.
Just buy a printer and make Iceland in your living room.
Speaking of Iceland and things of Ice, I found this other Ice Giant Print. He is beefier than his brother.
Obviously I didn’t get him completely cleaned before stacking his two parts, still lots to clean up on him but no time yet tonight.
Next to each other they remind me of Thor and Loki with the big horns . I have a pet for them printing now.
Wow, those Giants are some very chunky boys. It is amazing how quickly you have not only gotten into the printing but are very good at it. The mind boggles at what the pet may be!
ListenToMeWarriors wrote: Wow, those Giants are some very chunky boys. It is amazing how quickly you have not only gotten into the printing but are very good at it. The mind boggles at what the pet may be!
Well let your mind boggle no longer. Unless it starts to boggle over how my mind thinks of these things . I present pet number 1.
Tentatively named Bishop, after my favorite Wal(Rus)ter Bishop from Fringe
He is soon to be accompanied by another favorite Wal(Rus)ter White from Breaking Bad and their Handler Koenig of Star Trek OS fame.
These three came from TitanForge monthly subscription a few months ago. I might wind up doing the Giant Crab riding Ogre to join this crew, but not yet sold on it.
Obviously they do the hunting while the brothers do the pillaging.
Koenig was the victim of the local power company coming and temporarily shutting of the juice today with less than an hour to print. They had maintenance to do on some part of the line near our house . Unfortunately I just turned on the family room TV and kept hearing something. Turned out it was an outlet frying the power strip to the TV . No TV tonight . Guess who just got a nasty phone call. Hopefully no Adeptus Arbites are on their way to my house. Things may have gotten a bit heated.
Luckily just the power strip, TV is working fine and no other issues to see so far.
New Koenig is done, forgot to take a picture .
But I picked up the Battletech beginners box yesterday, two more mechs , and with a painting splurge this morning.
Got my final three from my first order as well as the two from the beginners box done. So 12 total mechs painted and based . I think this is my first “Complete” army ever .
So searching for things to print online today I found .stl files for the archer and the marauder....if I blow them up to 7” tall size they take 5 days to print ..... . Maybe later, as trophies or something. It would only cost about $6 each in materials, so not entirely out of the question.
Cura downloaded the 4.8 version yesterday, and I mistakenly erased my settings instead of porting them over. Luckily I had emailed someone the pics of my settings a few months back and I was able to retrieve them. Up now currently are the axe hands for the Minotaur. I might get the four of them done this weekend.
Glamour shots . Obviously you are new to my terrible photo style. Some people use potatoes to take pictures. I use mashed potatoes in a poorly lit room with bad directional lighting
Proof that the above is true.
fresh off the printer, I did more clean up of supports after this shot. Downloaded the file for the Longbow (on right) and printed it out at a 0.08 layer height. Took about 4 hours and cost me a whopping $0.16 .
If that number doesn't get you to want to buy an Ender3.....well I have no Idea what could get you to save money while gaming. Just saw the Christmas sale of $157 for the Ender3 that I have.
The fact that I will more likely buy blank bases which will cost more than my printed models is a shear time saver. The bases I've seen from reaper will cost about $0.20-$0.27 each. Still much cheaper to make my own models. Files are free, software was free, and my cost above includes the cost of the materials.
You've been busy since I last checked! Mechwarrior stuff looks great, but for me I have to say those Ice Giants might be my favorite thing you're working on of late. I look forward to seeing those with some paint on them!
The cost of the printer has easily been recouped. Figuring the fact it cost me a couple dollars to get a table full of terrain for frostgrave that would have been a couple hundred dollars easily paid for itself.
So more printing has been happening, just too lazy to do anything more about posting it. But there’s always terrible gratuity shots to prove it.
A Marauder Ranger(that’s what it was called)
The ranger, longbow and a rifleman(which lost its radar dish ). Was trying to be careful while trimming but the spoiler on its head went flying. Not sure it even landed yet .
A second longbow has a base coat on it and may get some love tonight.
There were two mishaps though. Both with printing Pirrahnas. The first fell victim to a bad print, I think I has the infil at 10%, so a little nudge with it being tall and skinny caused the top half to misprint. The second I reinforced it to 30% infill, but the design I did had long tiny barrels sticking out of its chest which caused more supports and was just a mess. I’ll search for one with short barrels, should help.
A catapult is on the printer and should be done when I return home today.
Thanks Syro, I will make sure I’m rocking some Linn Minmei during my next game
Tokens printed last night. I’ll need to make a few sets, or redo the file to do double batches as I have a feeling I’ll need a few sets for bigger games.
Also the catapult I printed yesterday is I need the shot. It lost a tiny piece of one of the missile box covers while I was hamfisting the supports off. I’ll just call it battle damage.
Your BT stuff looks good so far. If/When a slot opens up in my painting queue, I'll have to pull out some of the stuff I have hidden away in the Closet of Shame.
Painted for a few minutes last night. Got the first of the two Longbows that I printed almost done.
Then I got distracted with a baby before I had to get dinner going. It’s okay as he likes Battletech too .
I may have been watching Miniaturemarket’s website like a hawk waiting for a Battletech restock. I saw they got in some copies of Battletech: A game of Armored Combat, and I quickly ordered it. They all disappeared within a few hours. I also grabbed the BT book Total Warfare and picked them up last night. So that’s 8 more mechs for me to paint.

You can also watch Amazon.com, from time to time AGoAC is put up for about $15 on there. Not a scam either, I got one myself, as have a bunch of other people.
I'm really surprised how well those mechs seem to print on FDM. (Those are on FDM, right?) I have a Prusa i3, but have yet to print anything, but I'd love to print some mechs on it at some point. I was thinking of starting with buildings though, seems like they might be easier to do since most likely wouldn't need supports.

They are printed on FDM, my Ender3 to be precise, I have a bunch of new settings to try with the download of CURA 4.8.0 recently. Thingiverse has a ton of BattleTech mechs listed, but when you click them it goes to a 404 page.

Yeah, much like 40k stuff, there was a purge a while back that culled a ton of models. I had a bunch "collected" on Thingiverse, but I hadn't downloaded any, which are now just dead link, or gone. But, one good thing is that this is the internet, so nothing is ever really gone...
I tend to download from Thingiverse as soon as I find something, just in case. There was a bunch of stuff taken down for 40k as it got too close to the design style and the artists were asked to rework parts rather than a complete C&D takedown. Those are more around tanks/scenery though than figures
Luckily some of the designs I was wanting were still available on other platforms such as cults3d, usually you can find them elsewhere, because like you said once it’s on the internet it’s out there forever.
Very little painting done this weekend. More yard work to prepare for winter and other obligations.
As I had mentioned about Battletech, I keep a close watch on Miniaturemarket’s daily update page to check restocks of items. I’ve scored pretty well lately with a copy of the A game of armored combat, but I also finally was able to get a copy of Massive Darkness: Elementals early last week and then a couple days ago they got in copies of the Massive Darkness Ratlings, I snagged the last one. Now I just need to paint it all
One elemental down. I think it’s my favorite of the bunch. Still need to do some work on the brick as I’m not happy with it right now.
inmygravenimage wrote: He's a rocky chap. Could he do with a bit of moss for a green contrast?
I need to punch up the green, it’s too dark in the photo and disappears, I’ll use something brighter and a better shot later.
In the mean time....21.5hours into a 39+hour print . Battletech scale miniature by the toes for size comparison.
Also water elemental is well on his way to getting done. More work on his shells to do still.
Guess I can start on fire and air next as the printer I started tied up for a while.
Thanks Viterbi, these are not prints, but the expansion pack elementals from the first Massive Darkness game.
But print wise....I’ve been quiet while this 37.5hour print has been going in the background.
.
About an hour of cleanup later.
Battletech Archer printed at 400% scale .
Not sure if I’ll paint it up, or offer it to the local Game Shop as a trophy for the upcoming Battletech league.
Archer wrote: I know I am being a pain now with my inane questions and also my ignorance.
But how do all of these files get around copyright issues? Or are they paid files that are licensing the IP from the parent company?
Well.....they are derivative works designed by people who really enjoy the designs. All of these companies have started to push back against the sites that post the designs, but just like GW, they can’t keep track of all the sites and designers. Since they put these files up for free, there’s a really hard time showing proof that it is damaging to the company. Sites where they charge money for the designs will quickly comply with companies which request they get pulled down.

Actually, it's not. The 'free' STLs stop people from buying actual miniatures. Of course, there's the counter-counter argument that these people wouldn't buy the minis ANYways...
But, as the Chapterhouse and numerous other patent and copyright litigations showed, 'derivative works' of copyrighted and/or trademarked materials *IS* illegal.
Im only after a few items, not the whole universe of Battletech, but eventually I’ll find the ones I’m looking for.
Anyway, turkey has been consumed in large portions, sleep was intermittent due to waaaaaaaaay too much food, and paint has been painted.
I finished off the 4 elementals from Massive Darkness, just basing to do now.
I’ve been spending too much time thinking about a new AOS army with them previewing the Christmas box bundles. 4AOS (Sky dwarves, Tzeentchian,Ogor Mawtribes and Looncurse). Each one I see about $200, and nets just over $300 worth of models. They also are around 1000points in a box from my poor AOSmathmatics.
The two which draw my attention are: Looncurse and Ogor. Looncurse has a bunch of squighoppers and 7trolls, but it’s the least point wise from my understanding. The fear I have is all the goblin sword and squigs will get tedious very quickly. The Ogor box looks like the best deal with 1200+ points and looks like it has the most heft plastics wise. Lots of Ogors an artillery piece and even a giant. I can even see expanding the force out over time with all the various Man Eaters breaking up the monotony.
The other Option is building on Orruk Ironjaws army. Between my 3D printed Rogue Idol and the Shadespire warband I have a small starting spot. Even though theirs no special Christmas box, I can easily buy two start collecting boxes and a warboss to get a decent sized force (1000+ points), for the same price. Plus the Rogue Idol is 420 on his own and the warband from Shadespire is 80, so I’d be around 1500 points quick. It has a big draw for me and is decently competitive from what I hear.
I guess it will come down to if I can get my hands on the Mawtribes box or not.

Elementals look great. I really need to finish getting my hobby area set up. The Massive Darkness set would make a great base for Sellswords & Spellslingers games.
The elementals are coming along nicely Theo, maybe its the camera but I think the green moss could even be a bit brighter. The fire one really looks the part my fav of the bunch so far.
I don't play AoS but these new models are giving me the itch to pick some up. The ogors and giants catch my eye as I would not have to paint up so many. ;-D
Thanks Yorkright, yeah, that’s why I’m still hesitant about which one to go with.
1. Orruks can be fun and like typical Orcs, they are bashy. Heavy armor with the Maw-krusher and Rogue Idol to back them up. I don’t like the look of the Mawbeasts, and as they are the cavalry, it could hamper the game.
2. Ogors, I’d play the Mawtribes as troops are my thing more than fluffy bull riders. Few models to paint comparatively, but lots of flesh and you need to really manage your army to be successful with them.
Anyway it’s a lazy day. I’m not used to having 4 day weekends, but it’s another perk from my new position. I got those elementals done and decided to play around with the Shadespire Orruks I had previously painted Orange. I painted one blue and one red as I had already done enough yellow in the near past. The blue won out, all the armor is done, just have to tidy the rest of it up now.
I’m thinking of doing white face paint on them to break it all up. Either that or do a shoulder pad or two in a variant color, probably black, which is the color armor I’m thinking of doing for the army general.
These fellas look good an orky! I really like the chipping and weathering on the armor looks like they have been in a few scraps.
As for the Ogors, Guillemon flesh is pretty handy though I am not sure about large surfaces.
First up, love the green on the stone elemental turned out really well (they all did). I definitely think you should go for ogor. You like em big glad you had a good family feast day.
Well, I think Ogors are on hold for the time being, probably forever. The bundle is a great deal, especially if I can get 10-15% off of the $210, but as I have thought about it and have looked back between options, I think I will go with the Orruks. They may not be as good price/point wise, but I just like the look so much better, and the play style is more suited for my style.
If you're looking at the Orruk SC, I'd look at one of those and two of the Orruk Warcry boxes instead of two SC. The warcry boxes have 5 aardboys and a unit of Brutes for a couple of dollars more than a box of brutes on their own, so two of those and your current aardboys will make up a unit and will give you a lot of hitting power

Great minds think alike . My local shop had exactly two warcry boxes and the start collecting all at 10%off. Normally they don’t do discounts and I would have gotten them at Miniature Market for 15% and their 1% points, but the local shop has a 10% rewards points so it came up better in the long haul, plus got some free dice and supported even more local and where I will game once people can start gathering again.
I assembled (most of the way, leaving off the armor plates to be able to paint areas easier) the three Gruntas and the warchanter. The warchanter is almost completed, just finishing his sword, horns and chest armor plates.
With the blue armor i need to decide on a basing color/style. Suggestions are welcome.
Also to go with the Archer I printed last week, I pulled this 50hour print off last night and then shut the printer off for a rest.
It’s a warhammer for battle tech. The archer will be painted for Wolf and the Warhammer for Kerensky.
I’m more worried about painting bumper stickers on them , seriously I think I’m going to paint bumper stickers with the stores logo on their butts
I enjoyed painting the elementals, not my absolute best work, but it got the juices going again.
Orruks will definitely be growing, but with my work my wife enjoys us getting time together watching our favorite old shows (Currently rewatching Boston Legal ), so my painting time is really diminished.
Diminished, but not completely destroyed, got the Warchanter pretty much done now.
I hadn’t realized how large he was until I put him next to the other boyz. Orruks get bigger and tougher as they grow in power.
The photo on the startcollecting box has him front and center, I guess I just always thought there was more distance between him and the others and thought the size was just perspective. No he really just is a big boy .
The Gore-gruntas are assembled as much as possible to still allow me to paint before armor panels are added. They will be the next in line...unless I start assembling the brutes or Ardboyz.
Thanks Graven. I still haven’t bothered to learn OSL, so this will have to do.
First Gore-grunta is well on his way. So many detail
Also on a printer note, I was 23 hours into a 28 hour print and almost out of filament. I haven’t had any luck with the pause print function before, but I was able to switch filament spools and restart the print and I can’t see any difference in where it left off.
The warchanter is looking good. If you're aiming for OSL on those bones, I'd suggest making the centre of the area brighter as it is supposed to be a light source fading out the further it gets from the source. It doesn't look like it's centred on the eyes or mouth particularly, so I'd just assume something in the bone is glowing so you don't need to get too much brighter, just give it a middle point
Looks promising! It may be the lighting, bit I feel like the orukk skin is a tad too muted/flat compared to the blue of the armour. Maybe an additional highlight/wash could help out, providing it's not just a lack of light creating the effect?
CommissarKhaine wrote: Looks promising! It may be the lighting, bit I feel like the orukk skin is a tad too muted/flat compared to the blue of the armour. Maybe an additional highlight/wash could help out, providing it's not just a lack of light creating the effect?
Too true. Having never really spent time with Orcs/orks/ or Orruks, I never really spent time on their skin tones. Until this morning and I assembled the first Brute Boss half way and started painting. Only had about 30 minutes, getting ready to leave for work, not done yet, but I’m liking it more.
Definitely an improvement on the skin tone IMHO. For greenskins, I find a translucent wash to add a lot of depth. MajorTom11 suggested a mix of green, sepia, and water a few years back, and I've kept at it ever since. For your colour choice, a sepia/brown/water mix might work as well.
Thanks everyone. Skins are still something to play around with, there’s plenty of options for in the horde to come. In the mean time I wanted to get some ideas for basing laid out. After trying a few these super simple ones really stood out and I think give the best contrast to the models.
And when your running through the desert looking for baby seals to club I think you really stand out.
Obviously he is just poster tacked to the base right now, as these are test bases from WGF that I had nearby. I like how the sand brings out the rust in the armor.
I’m going to look at different static grass as these cheap army painter ones look like
An option to consider for the skin is Athonian Camoshade. Already has that hint of brown in it. I found it was good for shading some plants to give them a less bright hue.
I've been quiet, getting into my winter hibernation mode I guess .
Still printing away and doing small items......well some small items like bases for the big items I've printed.
But there has been some painting progress.
I printed a second Rogue Idol and painted him up. The flowers on his head will not stay . I have other ideas for him.
Some more scale shot.
Up close you can see layer lines.
I need to pick up some more basing materials to add to him, I know I have some reindeer moss in a box somewhere too.
Thanks. He goes with his twin brother
I’m not sure which paint job I like better, but since they are about $4 in plastic and I can mirror print them and change the sizes with the printer, they may have their own army (Sons of Behemat style).
The idols look very cool, like the new one a bit more. Have you thought about doing some hand prints in the blue of the orc armour on them (Saruman style)? Ties them nicely together and you can paint every idol in different rock colors.
Winter is coming....nojust joking. Still warmish here and no a song of ice and fire stuff .
Just slowing down with getting things done. Ready for hibernation. Good thing the printer runs without me paying attention.
Proof that it’s been running nonstop.
400% Urbie next to 400% archer.
Also baby Yoda Santa Claus with Holocron matrix.
And terrible action shot of a 3 day print in process.
Atlas, he who carries the world.
He’s also at 400%. At this rate I think by the time the game store is open for play I can have a Battletech match at 400% .
Time is a fleeting thing. One that I haven’t had enough of lately, and the hours in the evening are taken up by watching Boston Legal with my wife.
Luckily I can take a few minutes and hit print and then walk away for a day....or 33 hours in this case.
Saw this image on Thingiverse and now I want to start an undead faction . Thankfully my brother in-law has one and my old undead that I gave him before he moved to Texas. We are going down there for Christmas, so he just got a new terrain piece that hopefully he is not expecting.
It’s also a dice tower
You may notice what looks like a shadow line from the tooth over towards where the left ear would be. It’s actually where I had to change rolls of filament because I realized it would run out while I was asleep. I never noticed the color variance in spools before.
Speaking of color variance I splurged and bought a roll of “Peak Green” by the same manufacturer. Not sure what I’ll make in that...baby Yodas, hulks, and counters most likely.
Slinky wrote:Skully skelly thing is nice, how hard is the clean-up process?
Thanks, Clean up is getting better as I tinker with settings. I might adjust the support air gap up just another notch which should make where the supports touch the model come off easier with less scarring. It took about 20 minutes to get all the supports off of this and it's ready to prime and paint.
CommissarKhaine wrote:Like what you're churning out. Also 400% battlemechs look brilliant, it looks you could combine them with 32mm models for some cool battles!
Thanks CK. I don't have nu-marines to put next to them, but I think they would fit into 40K games size wise as titans or knights.
Started printing another 400% Urbanmech. Gave the last one to the local Game shop which the owner immediately put into the front display case.
I'm a bit stalled on the Orrucks due to time, but I might get a little bit to work on them this weekend. I had an idea last night, and it kind of works in my mind, so Ill hit you guys with it and see how much of a lunatic I sound like.
To me Orcs, Orks and Orruks are a mob army and their weapon options are all ad-hoc as all get out. They are supposedly stronger than humans and more durable as well. Their stats sometimes takes all of this into account, but over all the editions they just seem lackluster to me. I don't really like the look of the Orruk (Orc) 'Ardboyz. But when I was looking at the new Set of BloodBowl Second Season I totally love the Orcs in there and the prior Orc Blood Bowl team. SO since I want the new BloodBowl Set anyways and I have the Old Blood Bowl team (2015 or so), I want to use those models as part of the IronJawz army. The new Season starter comes with a plastic Varag Ghoul chewer model who would make a nice Warboss in his own right. The last season of Orcs fit the same style as the newer ones and apart from not having weapons and having tennis shoes, they really fit in with the Brute aesthetics. Plus the older team has 12 orc models for $40 (before discount) compared to 15 "ardboys for $57 (pre discount). Sure they are not multipart, but I think I'll have bits left over from the 'Ardboyz I have to do a bit of customizing. With the IronJawz really only having a few options for models out there I figure that this might be the way forward. I just have to find my Bloodbowl Orc team to see what they would look like with extra gubbins.
Plus GW is out of stock on stuff and weeks behind with fulfilling orders to the local shops, so I have no Orruks to buy . How can it be a Green Christmas without Orruks.
Okay, so I bought BloodBowl2020.....and found another box of the warcry Orruks at Miniaturemarket, so I got a bunch of Holiday reinforcements. While I’m not too thrilled about changes to BloodBowl, the new Black Orc team is wonderful looking, and I will use them and my ork boyz as Ard boyz, or possibly Brutes and Ardboyz as the sizes are right. That and Varag Ghoulchewer I started the right size for a Mega Warboss in my opinion, which is all that matters .
Still very work in progress, but here he is between a Brutes boss and the Warchanter
I printed custom templates for the Orcs this morning and will paint for a bit as I have some time.
Well T-minus 25 hours till we start driving to Texas for Christmas. So much left to do .
Plenty of work yet to do on Varag, butwanted to show him off. He’s on a 40mm base as that would have him as a Brute, a Megaboss goes on a 60mm base which I think he can fill nicely.
The unlucky Ghoul used as a mid game snack.
And the side everyone enjoys as it means he is going the other direction.
To harken back to my first games of Warhammer over 30+ years ago, Mr Wyman always had the objective of the battle be two armies meet at a field with an outhouse. Neither side likes sloppy seconds
I like your Varag I'm looking forward to trying out Blood Bowl, myself. That's an interesting story about the outhouse, I may need to craft one for my collection. Safe travels Theo.
The ghoul snack looks quite fun Love what you have done with the mini, great paintjob and that outhouse is... something else.
Have a safe trip and happy holidays in Texas!
I dig those Orc ball templates - very cool! Also would love to hear what you're "not thrilled" with in the new BB... Thanks to FUMBBL I played 500+ games of the old version, but haven't looked too closely at the changes.
I have not yet crossed the Rubicon, but I have enough bulk for when they stretch me to appropriate size. Actually if you take into account the thickness of the sole of the boot and the helmet I think I’m right inline with actual heights of the Marine statues.
So it’s New Year’s Eve here and I am sitting enjoying some quiet as the family is out running errands, including picking up a copy of a game from Target that we played on our trip (Quirkel). Think dominoes meets soduko and uno, we played it pretty much non-stop over Christmas and my wife ordered it through Amazon after the first game, so you know it was good. Amazon has failed to even package it yet and it’s cheaper to get local then to wait another week for it to possibly arrive. So we will be ringing in the new year with wine and family game time.
Reflecting back on 2020...
Got a new job position, better pay and better hours, more family time. Immediately put on furlough, but was reassured of having the job back ASAP, which happened not as quickly as hoped, but still better off than others. The down time and extra unemployment pay earned me an Ender3.
Pandemic also kept the kids home for 90% of the year along with my wife (teacher and now online school administrator), so we have been well protected by isolation. Wife has also signed up for the Doctorate in education which will begin soon and she should have it by the time the twins graduate High school in 2+ years.
Game wise each time I find a local group to play we get shut down because of the virus, so Battletech and AOS are on hold right now. I found someone interested in learning Bushido with me at the local shop, he works there, so that could help develope a real group.
Painting bug bit a couple times, but I am far too enameled with the 3D printing to really get much done.
Looking forward to 2021, hoping the dumpster fire doesn’t catch the garbage truck on fire where it will ignite the trash dump .
Game wise Goals for 2021:
1. Bushido, build a board and paint some models
2. Finish Orruk for AOS, maybe complete Blightkings as well, but might unload them to build another army 3. Feeling a strong pull for 40K Necrons, I’ve been printing some terrain for them and seeing others work, I might snag Indomitus while I can.
4. Another pulling game I saw Arena Rex. Gomez has been hitting the models out of the park and it looks like a quick bloody game with not too much to crunch.
5. Hobby clean up, this should be a constant, but I am about ready to just bin a whole slew of things I have dumped money on over the years. Mainly cheap that just hasn’t paid off.
What do you guys have as plans of for 2021? Respond here or your other threads, I still browse, but life’s balance has kept me from posting like I had previously.
Your orcs (I'm old, can't bring myself to say orruks) are coming on nicely and those battlemech prints are awesome, but a look like a pain to clean up.
I had a quick think about next year and came up with enough projects to keep me going for decades! So needs a bit more thought. I like your idea of a hobby clearout, or at least some buying restrictions (though those sort of hobby plans haven't worked yet!)
Had some store credit to burn, so I picked up the elite edition 40K starter from my local FLGS. I had stopped by Miniaturemarket to buy Indomitus, but they didn’t have a copy in store , guess I’ll have to order it online .
Yes, getting back into 40k. Had made all my willpower rolls for months, then Grimdork returns and buys it and shows it off again.....and I saw some necron 3D files .
Speaking of which, I ran out of grey filament.
So green spidercron has made an appearance, just needs more legs and a tail.
Ooh shiny new models! And it sounds like your year was quite OK? I find it interesting to see that a lot of people managed to make the best out of 2020, and did quite well in the end.
Same here though: more working from home, more family time- it wasn't all bad, though there is a lack of real, physical social contact.
Yeah, for all the that 2020 catches, it was actually really good for us. None of us lost our jobs,in fact we both began new arcs in our careers that are more fulfilling and better paying. I did have my furlough time, but it was covered by extra pay. We have been relatively safe from Covid, with relatives getting it, but everyone of our family has survived, a few friend however did not , and another is being taken off the ventilator today, and will probably not survive, but chose the “no heroic measures” route. We replaced our roof, siding, windows, oven (gas), got a minivan without getting rid of a car as the twins will have their licenses soon. Medical bills have been covered, and we are still in a sound state, so no extra hardships. We miss seeing everyone in person, but we have caught up with old friends online and are planning out 2021.
I will get my vaccine shot this week and my wife is getting hers as well, both of us are considered front line workers.
Hobby wise.
Have a copy of Indomitus ordered . Also grabbed the elite starter bundle for extra bikes and skorpetek walkers. A belated gift last night means either a codex or another elite edition will be ordered.
Edit: sorry for the disjointed posts. Was in the middle of it and got pulled away.
I was really excited to build and start the Indomitus Necrons, but now having been thinking of the second half of the box, I’m trying to figure out what chapter of Marines to paint .
I’m going to break open my copy of Index Astartes, but there are already a few contenders.
1. Blood Angels. One of my favorites, but will I actually mix old and new 2. Dark Angels. A chance of the Lion Returning....yes please, plus bike company and land speeders, or whatever the new hotness might be.
3. Scythes of the Emperor. Vanilla chapter (Ultramarine successor), challenging paint scheme. Back from the brink of destruction thanks to Primaris marines.
4. My own Successor/custom Chapter. I had made the Theophony (hence the name) many years ago, but they were boring grey dudes. I also had an idea for the Baal (Fire) Scorpions based on the creatures on Baal that Sanguinius had defeated, basically a giant scorpion (3-4meters long)
5. Will do research on others.
Throw out your suggestions quick. I have a desire to do some painting.
Thanks guys. While I do like how he is turning out, I keep wondering if maybe is shouldn’t do a chapter which has transfers . I know I have some transfers I ordered for the Scythes somewhere, but the mountain of shame is in the way. I also cannot find my index Astartes, which really annoys me.
Anyway, progress from this morning.
You might notice he is on the Indomitus box I just picked up....along with another Elite edition, so I have the other two of the triples that I can test the color schemes on now for other chapters.
I am thinking of Dark Angels (Another one of my older buys) since with today’s purchase I have 9 of the new bikes (And NO I will not do White Scars, I’m not trying to paint white )
While the burgundy was just going to be a one off for the units robes, I think I have decided to model my force as units from the 7th company and replace the purple with burgundy. So I may have to remake the chapter symbols to be a piece of rhubarb dipping into some custard .
Started the Judiciar, I may make the inside of the robes a dark red to honor the red normally seen in Scythes artwork. I didn’t want to do all black because then it looks more like an Imperial fist/Black Templar Emperors Champion than anything else. Besides, sticking with the color scheme of the Scythes opens up options for all the details. Though I was tempted to do a golden chestplate instead of the yellow, but then figured that if I kept the black parts black, what was the point. The enemies of the Emperor should already be shaking when they find out the Scythes are in the system.
Also started a biker, not bad, but I think I’ll try another option on the next one. The yellow sides are a bit much. I may just do the casing over the bolsters as yellow on the next one to see how that turns out. I have 9 bikes , so I can play around a bit.
Biker 2, I like him better so far, might just be the black helmet. (Insert Dark Helmet image here ) Not sure how I goofed up with a yellow helmet to begin with
I'd agree with you on the bikes, black with a yellow cover looks less IF. In general the colours look fantastic and it's making me rethink doing mine as more Red Scorpions
Lovely choice going for Scythes, they were one of the first chapters I was introduced to in lore when they got eaten by the Tyranids so it's cool to see a resurgence in their lore and the number of people painting them.
Very nice yellow and I like your choice of robe colour.
Like others have said, really striking color scheme for your marines. Love the yellow - very rich. Did you post how you did it somewhere?

Yeah, it was a hard pill to swallow, but I am starting to think that Robute Girllyman is really dead and stuffed in a closet, replaced by Omegon and Cawl is Alpharius (who isn’t really dead). Just waiting for GW to flip the script and all the Primaris are actually traitor geneseed.

Quirkle is huge fun. It was a great hit at gatherings for my friends and I.

We get plenty of cat love, four of the fuzzy things control the house, well three cats and a dog in the shape of a cat (he plays fetch and chases balls , Sam is a terrible cat, but a mediocre dog)

The yellow is Averland sunset with Uriel yellow highlights and flash guts yellow for extreme highlights. I’ve started to coat the Averland sunset in Nazdreg yellow and do a second layer of Averland and then the highlights. It gives the recesses a red/brown shadow that I am really liking.

Well, I assembled the rest of the Marines last night and started one of the eradicator marines this morning. I will prime the rest before I start painting them, but he was just screaming for color. Pic s shortly, ATT was just here to switch out my sons phone for a new one.
Still contemplating the Necron side of things. I am really feeling like bright silver with white accents for the main colors and energy I was thinking the yellow like I did on my Sylvaneth weapons.
But I want something to contrast against the Scythes, so I might wind up going Green Afterall , or blue.....or red .
Eradicator mostly done. Needs badges, and markings, and base
I’m loving the work your doing with the Scythes Theo, they look great! As for the Necrons, I say go for the silver, white and yellow glow. The Orange in the Sylvaneth should make them distinct from the Scythes I reckon
Thanks Squire, the perils of push fit indeed. Actually the push fit just turned into a sort of blessing.
You see the first assault marine I was working on took a lot longer than he needed to just to get him to this stage.
Taking upmost care to try and keep the yellow yellow and the black on it’s parts. I started the Sgt and then had an epiphany. Take the unglued arms off you night moron Theo .
Now I can easily reach all the areas of the shield, eagle and back pack without too much risk of getting the black on the yellow.
Sometimes .
Off to work. Only half a clinic today in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day. I actually would prefer it to be a full holiday, I still will be there all 8 hours, but I feel the man and his accomplishments deserve to be honored as much as Any other non-religious holiday we celebrate.
More good progress on the Scythes Theo, the push fits do have the fact their arms can come off for painting going for them, and if you chop the nibs off, the arms can be glued onto other marines for some added variability! Wish I'd done that with mine but oh well!
Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Really enjoying this project immensely.so much so that I have started printing some big things for it...the Caestus assault ram is first up. I accidentally made two of one section....so I might have to make two of them . Found a few other files for later as well.
Almost finished this assault Sgt.
Just some touch ups to do. Wouldn’t normally bother as I don’t see them till I take a close up picture, but before logos and transfers happen I want to get him done.
Started on the Lt of the Guard (seriously I have to look up wether it’s sword, shield or blade every time , I’m getting old)
I was going to do the red helmet like ultramarines, since we are a first/second founding chapter of theirs, but that tradition might not carry over.
If I keep the Red Helmet, What color lenses should he get? I'm leaning black, but I know Green is probably the more logical choice.
Also, White Helmet Stripe? I have not given the other sword/shield/blade guard guys white helmets...yet. Not sure If I should go all Codex on them a Big G is back and will probably make some changes to the codex based on how things have gone in the past 10k years.
Damn son. You are knifing into that Indomitus! And here all my boys sit still on the sprue! I really need to go back and see what else you've been upto over my long hiatus but this is some impressive stuff!
So doing research and reading The Lt should keep his helmet color (Black) but have a red and white stripe on the ridge of the helmet . No painting has been done. Long work hours and family time, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be some progress .
Started printing my Ceastus assault Ram and not paying enough attention at multiple stops.
So accidentally printed two “tops” , then accidentally printed two fronts , then last night as I started the “bottom” I distinctly remember walking away thinking “man this spool has gone a long way” and continued walking without checking how much was left . Well it ran out probably 4 hours into the 8+ hours it ran
My face is hurting for some reason , maybe I need to stop facepalming myself with stupidity.
So far the prints are nice even at 0.2, though I have the gun set for 0.04 when I print them.
I really like the print as the designer cut matching holes in the parts which are the diameter of the filament . It’s a great feature, even the door hinges use small bits of filament. So no matter where you are in the world if your printing in filament, you have the right pins.
Regarding your Assault Intercessors, you were smarter than I was when I did mine. You actually left the arms unglued. I was silly and glued mine together before I even primed them, so I should be facepalming harder than you right there! You've chosen a much less common color scheme than I have on your Marines, and it's turning out really well!
You mentioned trying to decide on a Necron scheme; maybe you've already decided by now in which case ignore me here, but something I've been thinking would look cool on Necrons would be to paint the main bodies of the guys black, and paint the weapons/blades to have a red glow. Give them kind of a Sith look. I almost started Crons just to test that scheme out because in my head it would look really badass and sinister, just like Necrons should look! Just kind of a random thought.
Thanks Zergsmasher, it wasn’t smarts, just laziness that kept me from gluing everything together, most of the bodies are glued. I was batch assembling since I had 4sprues of the Intercessors (2 from Indomitus and 1 each from the elite editions I picked up), so I cut the parts apart for the core body and head and then later went back and did the arms, leaving them unglued because that bottle had run out . I ha another partial bottle next to it, but still.....lazy.
I like the idea you had with the crons, but as I want a brighter scheme overall black is right out. I want them to look like they were planning on having a bright future as the “good guys” before they figured out the C’tan screwed them. I’ve got time on that end though as I will push through Marines for a while before tackling them.
On the marine front, finally printing the correct parts , guess smashing my face so often did the trick.
They will need some gap filling, but right now they are loosely stacked together with small pins aligning them. I got the green as a test color, while it’s made the same as the grey, I think it just isn’t perfectly the same, either that or GW just has us trained with the grey plastic, but their underworlds stuff looks just the same as the grey.
The smoothed walls just look better in grey and to me the details, while still good in green, are just better in the grey. It might just be the sheen though.
I’ve printed all these at 30% infill instead of my usual 5-10%. Not only are they much sturdier, they are a better quality as the extra supports means things stay where they are supposed to be. Time though is the victim here. The green top part took 9 hours each, the front green sections were 21 hours each and the back bottom grey sections are taking just under 16 hours, the second one should be done when I get home tonight.
The main guns I am doing at 0.04 detail thickness instead of the 0.2 that the rest I see done in. They will take 6-8hours if memory is correct, then I need 3 more wings each at 5 hours 4 connectors for the wings and the intake vents and engine parts. It will be a busy weekend.
First squad of assault Intercessors is almost done.
My Scythes will have golden shoulder trims and these bone Aquilas.
So real life hit today/yesterday. Wife’s Grandmother fell at the nursing home and broke her Femur. Surgery is necessary, but when she was taken to the hospital they tested her before surgery and found she was Covid positive. Surgery is pushed to last one of the day because of her positive status and the need for extra precautions. On top of it is my wife’s mother’s birthday, but she is around grandma all the time, even though she was tested and negative so far, she could not be around anyone’s because of quarantine. I realize it’s nothing unique to the times, but unless you experience it firsthand it just sounds surreal.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Anyway, new GW reveals today, all look pretty good, but I am really thinking the new kill team set is a must for me. Full rules, plus rules to use all the models from Indomitus, and it’s Marines vs. Necrons. The kill teams add to both those armies for me, but the expected price seems high especially for all the junk terrain in the box, still, I like the models .
Feel you on the grandparent having covid related issues, we definitely had some of that going on too.
I'm hoping the KT box is less than $140 but I'm not optimistic. I definitely want it. Are you sure it has full rules? I'd welcome that, but I don't think I've seen a confirmation of it. The graphic of the book *does* appear to be thick though, so maybe.

The Warhammer community article says everything you need to start playing kill team, and says the stats for all units in the Indomitus box are included. Plus it’s the new Starter Set, so I just presume it is all in there. If not, I’ll wait for the models separately, as I don’t need the terrain.
Harder facts....like two complete Ceastus Assault Rams The second one needs cleaning before more assembly can happen. Both have some gaps, but really not worse than FW kits, and all are due to my print bed not being perfectly flat.
Plus the door still operate.
The two tone color scheme will be resolved by paint in the future.
Currently printing an extension for the stormraven, similar to the one Chapterhouse used to make.
I found some .stl files for the thunder hawk, storm bird and a few others, but seriously those may take as long to print as a Titan.
So I opened facebook and saw my former brother in law painted up the dice tower I printed for him for Christmas. I think he did a Fantastic Job on it.
I think FW and GW really need to figure out how to monetize their designs in 3d file format. Save on shipping and labor. Find Designers that are out their and pay them by commission to develop things. THey are missing out big time.
You can print your own.....But it might not fit a resin printer. Also the design comes with optional spiders crawling on it for even better effect.
Thanks Boss Salvage , I liked their chapter way back when, and now they are seeing even more love with books and such. Unfortunately they have been forever disgraced by officially being a branch of the Ultramarines . I guess Everyone wants to be an Ultramarine, but I will settle for being a Scythe of the Emperor .
Wow those are some great looking prints Theo! I may try dabbling with 3D printing myself soon so it is nice to see what stuff can be pulled off, they are gonna look great all painted up!

While I’m a huge advocate of FDM printing, especially for larger things like this, for smaller more detailed items resin is the way to go.
What would happen if you cross Puff the Magic Dragon (the Gunship from Vietnam) and the grimdark future of 40K? You’d get the stormraven, a flying brick that was way to small to carry men, ammo, and dreadnoughts let alone have the aerodynamics to fly. So when Chapterhouse made the extension for the stormraven I was like , we can finally do this. Then GW . I bought 3 stormravens as a bundle way back when, I assembled one, two more are in parts...well one more is in a bits box somewhere, and parts of the third are going on a trip to be converted into the mythical Puff the Magic School Bus of the Scythes.
