@Llamahead, I hope you didn’t cheat and tell him he missed every time he hit the bullseye .
@Viterbi, I am pleased with how he turned out, so much so that even my new Ito guys are having a hard time of keeping my attention. The Not-Dwayne Johnson’s may get painted next .
Well, got some free time, so I painted a two headed snake ....not something you hear often.
He has a few gaps and flash spots, but I am no professional....and didn’t see them till too far in. He is also a lot of points 25 I believe and a huge target being a 50mm base.
Thanks Graven, have t decided the secondary color for the base as I do two for facings.
The first of the blessed, and probably the one that caused me to order Ito instead of buying the Shiho clan stuff.
Akame
With a size comparison. She is on a 30mm and he is a 50mm. Some of the other snake people are on 40mm bases, so really gives the army some flavor just with sizes.
Both of those are great characters! Some of the brown spots on the two headed serpent may look better if a bit darker, then dry brushed the lighter colour? They are quite pale in places
endtransmission wrote: Both of those are great characters! Some of the brown spots on the two headed serpent may look better if a bit darker, then dry brushed the lighter colour? They are quite pale in places
Looking at him this morning the whole model was lighter. I guess all the wash had dried and shrunk back, so another all over coat of sepia for big snake.
Also started on Yuui, I like the bluish scales, I think they came out well.
Also changed the gold on the weapons to iron warrior steel.
I've had it with these motherf*ing snakes in this motherf*ing thread! Lol jk of course (I couldn't resist!), they are really cool models and you are making them look great with your paintjobs!
You might be able to see in the background that I have washed the snake two more times with sepia, I think he’s to a good color tone now.
Very little time and access to my painting area, which means that I think....yes that burning smell was my brain. A while back I picked up two boxes of Afghani fighters by wargames Atlantic. That was 80 models that I got for $35, you got to love miniature market dent sales . I didn’t really have a plan for them, but I was flipping through the Kings of War books and wanting to use my 3D printer to make the greater Earth Elementals. Then I though let’s make a whole earth elemental army as I saw some cool paint schemes, but I needed shooters....let’s make a desert themed elemental army and have the Afghani guys be tribal hunters and use the rifles as shortbows .
I started to think of unique basing instead of just sand, and then checking Facebook...I saw a post from Epicbasing.com. They have stl files for Cacti, perfect. So I bought two files, cussed at my printer a bit, and here we go.
A quick paint up with some dry brushing.
Big snake in the back for the color.
Computer is getting so out of date that slicing is becoming an issue. My iPad also is so old that it cannot take new updates. Got to hold off until Christmas.
Thanks guys, the basing bits are great, I'm just having a of a time with my printer. I'm sure I need to change the clear plastic sheet on the bottom of my tank as the one i have has a couple bad spots. I know I have replacements somewhere, but with everything going on I haven't been around my stuff in so long I forgot where. Also after I posted I received the link to my kickstarter rewards for a great basing .stl that i saw but was too busy at the time to post about it.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/where-legends-stand/where-legends-stand-relaunch/description. lots of different styles of bases with 5 different formats for each style: round, square, both with spots for magnets underneath and then all the styles as just base toppers. Supported and unsupported for all. I went in at the $20 level with the intent on putting the forest bases to work on my Ito clan guys, but now I am on a Kings of War mindset, so I may finally assemble some more Sylvaneth dryads to make a tree herder army on the forest bases. Also looking at using the underwater bases as desert bases and just remove the corals and add the cacti to it.
far too much to think about.
Crummy day at work, just fixing other peoples stupid errors from the last year. It actually has me rethinking this job. I think the one Doctor realizes just how bad things were being kept up and is happy to have me, but on the same spectrum I wonder how it was functioning before I got here and I am hearing that it wasn't....so hard decisions coming up. Not sure I can keep trying to right this ship.
Oh and I found out that there are 2 weddings and a Funeral at our church over the next two weeks that I have not been looped in on, but they have made promises for me . Fun all around.
Well after many troubled prints, I tried to schange my FEP film, and ended up breaking the trim ring that holds it in place . I ordered a new resin VAT and it got delivered last night, hopefully I will be able to use it this weekend as my wife and basement stealing daughter will be in Indianapolis for a Lacrosse tournament. I will be home with the other two kids and a basement all to myself Mwah hahahaha!
The elemental army is developing in my mind as I have been so busy and exhausted this week with regular work being a nightmare, a wedding and a funeral thrown in just for an extra curveball. So I am thinking of developing the elementals into both Earth and Air elementals in the army. or making the air ones look like sand elementals/monsters.
Also as I just saw it mentioned in the N&R section a company called Gamergrass.com. Putting it here as a chance to remind myself. They are in Portugal, but I have always found GW and Army Painter grasses to be lackluster to say the least.
Also trying to develope an Idea for using the Sylvaneth I have. I just am torn between making them as a AOS army and making it as a KoW army.
Oh well. Sorry for rambling, just more of getting things out of my mind and onto paper/page.
That's one thing I don't have to worry about on my Photon S; the trim ring that holds the FEP is made of metal so I don't think I could break it even if I tried. Changing the FEP is a major pain in the ass though. Here's hoping that was what was causing your prints to fail and you start having more success after all that mess!

Thanks, the new tank with metal ring and new FEP has done the trick. Proof is in the Resin.
Printed these guys up just now that I got a few precious moments in the basement.
Also just printed some base toppers which are in the cure machine as I type. I hope this weekend I can get some time on a Kings of War army. Changing gears as it will be a force of nature army using my sylvaneth models.
The cacti will get their time in the sun (pun intended) soon.
Never thought I'll write this on this forum, but great cacti They add a lot of character to the bases and I'm excited how the desert elementals will develop!
Thanks guys, definitely going more natural for these guys, though I a man still looking at other possibilities for colors.
While already jumping to the next project , I backed a new patreon for Lostkingdom miniatures. This months $13 subscription is for new Magmohorin (Chaos Dwarves), but this et is very 300 inspired with the king on a palaquin similar to the movie with slaves holding it high up, and the Chaos Dwarf immortals with chained up huge guy in the center of the unit. Also a couple war machines that are ridiculous . Eventually there will be more Chaos Dwarves to make an Abyssal Dwarf army with. They did a kickstarter a ways aback and there is just too many amazing sculpts to not make a army with it.
The patreon also came with a welcome bundle which turned out amazing. I didn’t see any previews of it, but there were extra models in it that were not listed, one of which will work as a Druid for the Sylvaneth army. I missed printing one piece, it will be on the next plate after this one finishes.
,
Beautiful model. Comes with the base in either round or square. As I think this army will be for Kings of War I went with square.
Speaking of basing. I added some of the treestumps from Epicbasing.com to a shrunk down base from the Where Legends stand Kickstarter.
Same base just rotated 180 and added the extra stumps and stirland mud. Still needs drybrushing on them.
Wife and daughter just home from the Lacrosse tournament.she moved to a brand new team this year...they came in last, but they played against teams that have been together for multiple years, so I say they did fine.
Excellent work as always and really like the resin figures you're turning out. A resin printe ris undoubtedly in my future, but I'm restraining the urge to buy oen given how busy things are right now, and how many painting projects, kitbashes and FDM projects are lined up waiting.
I played lacrosse in high school, good on your daughter and yes, being a newly organized team is a definite factor: "it's a building year" is a thing. Our coach described it as a chance for a bunch of people to hit each other with sticks and a ball thrown in the middle as cover. In history class in New York State we learned that the five Nations (later six) of the Iroquois Confederacy (the Houdanassanee) played massive games of lacrosse to settle disputes, sometimes with hundreds of warriors to each side. The game could go on for days and often resulted in serious injury and death. Your kid is plenty tough to play!
Thanks Meer_cat . Resin printers are definitely a power beyond the FDM ones, just a few more cautions to be careful of.
So now I remember why I stopped working on Sylvaneth. I HATE ASSEMBLING DRYADS.

Unintentional base damage came out looking like wood...nice .
Iknow dryads don’t really fit the bill as large infantry, but I think, with the other base decorations they have enough volume to not look too far out of place. All are just temporarily poster tacked to the base in this picture.
Two hordes side by side of the heavy infantry. The bases are the same 3D print (turned 180) with extra embellishments from Epicbasing.com added to fill it up.
Also printed the last part of the character base. The base is 40mm square, but this front branch would be horrendous for gaming . I’ll make a second print without the front and she can just slot in between the two if I ever get a game in.
Also from the welcome bundle from being a lost kingdoms patreon ($13 a month) was this Magmhorin (Chaos Dwarf) mercenary.
Had a massive error while printing. The model is fine, but the base is completely trashed in behind. I’ll try and save it a second I’ll move him onto a 40mm square base anyway.
Also he needed 5 Big Hat Inmortals (yes, they are spelled that way “In” Magmhorin “
5 different guys, here with 5 different shields and 5 different axes. Each one has options for swords and spears as well, I just couldn’t fit them all on the same build plate, but these 5 are complete .
Productive as ever, and looking good. I must admit, this is where printing shines for me. You just wake up one morning and go 'I want a Sylvaneth army' and boom, you're off to the races with one the very same day! Incidentally, if you're looking for big ent/treant monsters, The Printing Goes Ever On some some great ones that print really nicely.

Maybe they look better in hand, I’m just not a huge fan of their models. The Lost kingdom has really struck a chord with me with their designs.
Especially short guys with big hats and pointy bits everywhere.
Theophony wrote:I'm just not feeling the Gold/brass and red, too Khorney.
Anyway, still printing the big bad seige tower beast.
"It still only counts as 1"
Went with a Dark metal with beige armour on a test piece, but forgot to take a picture.
Sounds wise, it's too iconic a colour combo. Purples maybe? And as for "counts as 1" I feel that way whenever I finish something giant
Here’s the newer color scheme.
Also the new test color for the sylvaneth, basically grey and then splotchy grays, greens and browns. The broken trunk on the base will get a similar treatment as well.
brushcommando wrote: Looking pretty sweet. Is that big Rhino thing from the Lord of the Rings battering ram?
Thanks, no the rhino is from this months (October 2021) patreon from Lost Kingdoms Miniatures. $13.00 for all the files in this picture
As well as the welcome package of 7 other samples of their ranges (the female wood elf I printed iron the previous page with the owl on her arm. It’s all pre-supported or not if you’d prefer to do it yourself. This thing still needs its howdah printed, though I will likely just print the bottom part with the double barreled cannon and not the next two stages upwards. These guys are called the Magmhorin, I missed out on their Kickstarter a few years ago, but it was the reason I finally bought a 3D printer. This month is an obvious tribute to the 300.
Pans labyrinth is a movie I will have to rewatch, it was spooky, which I think suits the Sylvaneth well.
Calling him done.
While I like the idea of the bugs carrying stumps full of arrows, I just don’t like the execution, so I’m going with these broken stumps from Epicbasing.com. I just downloaded some trees from them and as I have the basement tonight I will be printing a plate full of trees . Big happy trees.
I was going to make this army for Kings of War, but then I got thinking (I know I shouldn’t do that ), I’m more likely to ever play AOS than KOW. Even though Sylvaneth are supposedly low tier, things tend to change quickly, so I might as well give it a shot.
I also try to steer clear of painting armies for games I will likely never play.
It is good advice to follow.
CB
Sadly I will probably never play AOS either, but since the FLGS won’t stock or support Mantic, I have a greater than 0 chance with AOS.
I stayed up later than normal, hopefully I don’t pay for it tomorrow . But I accomplished a lot in my mind at least.
I like the greener guy more, but it isn’t terrible to have the variation between the models.
At least the basing looks fairly cohesive.
Just started the next set of prints of large trees for basing and cleaned the old basing off a tree Lord and gave him the base grey for painting.
Chaos Dwarves will be on hold for a bit. I got an idea for Orruks again, and with the latest FAQ, they are even stronger, so I may HAVE TO go buy a mawkrusha or two ...possibly three .
Started repainting a tree lord. Still need to drybrush when the wash drys.
I may have dropped a couple hundred dollars today on more Sylvaneth .
Got 2 of the next Kurnoth hunters assembled with swords. 2 more boxes of these guys along with a Warcry Souldrain Forest box (which was 2 of the sets of woods Terrain, some scatter terrain and a double sided map for $100/ or $85 from miniature market) along with some more paints and washes.
While these take a while to assemble, I really like the way they turn out, as oppossed to the Dryads which take forever and look like way too much fiber in my poo.
Took a half day today, office was driving me crazy and all the providers are off this afternoon anyway. Plus I had new things to assemble, base and paint.
Still not totally happy with the big guys sword, but he works for now.
Finished assembling the last of the three sword guys.
Stirland mud is still drying, as it I started also drying on the guys with great weapons.
brushcommando wrote: I like the level of detail on those, particularly the mushrooms. On an unrelated note, is that a guitar-playing orc in the background?
It is. It’s a print I found on another forum by Warmill.
https://www.warmill.co.uk/ It’s an alternate Warchanter for AOS Orruks.
Here he is next to actual models from the range.
He’s a bit larger, but he’s also on a base, but since Orruks/Orcs get bigger as they get tougher, I think he fits right in.
There are also Gangster-wizards and a few others that fit the army that I haven’t bought or printed yet, but might once I get back to that army.
Those walking trees are coming along quick and very nicely! They look really great and seem to paint up fast and the good thing is that you can bring some variance in with different browns and greens and still have a cohesive army.
Thanks everyone, really hoping to get some good painting time in this weekend as the wife and youngest are at another weekend long Lacrosse tournament out of town. My son got his drivers license FINALLY, watch out when you are walking on the sidewalk no matter what country you are in.
unfortunately I have another Funeral to attend to at church in the morning which throws off my calendar for the weekend, so we will see. Also the Orruks have begun a nasty chant in my mind...I now want to make a Megaboss on Mawkrusha named Roy Kent "He's Here! He's There! he's every Krumping Where! Roy Kent!!!" (God I love Ted Lasso ). I've been trying to come up with a new paint scheme in my mind for Ironjawz and maybe that is them telling me to paint them like the AFC Richmond Greyhounds .
Sometimes it’s the repetitive work that needs to be done that gets you going.
Lots of basing set up for Dryads....I hate dryads....I don’t like their look...And most importantly I HATE assembling them. Too many tiny pointy bits that don’t feel like they fit together nice . Almost makes me want to go and snap twigs off of bushes and glue them to bases. They’d be preassembled and repainted that way.
Long relaxing day with headaches, so what’s better than painting the things that give you headaches...Right?
FN dryads...
Probably broke 8+ of the 15 off of their bases while painting them, such small attachment points , even tried gluing them back onto the bases with an arm glued to the tree stumps. Still they are brittle as hell.
Just need to add the yellow flower clumps to the bases to bring them all together.
Kurnoth Hunter for scale, also I screwed up and used the wrong base color for the dryads...then I covered them with a second wrong color ....and possibly a third .
Yet another reason to write down your army color schemes that I keep telling myself to do.
In the back of the dryads is my version of Drycha. I’m still not sold on the spirits infesting the trees aspect of the Sylvaneth army....or the bugs. Drycha needs another drybrush or two before completely done, but was good enough to join the photo
I have another Treelord and more Dryads to repaint and rebase, as well as the Underworlds warband of Sylvaneth. I keep thinking of the next project...probably Orruk Ironjawz, but since the Maggotkin book is due out in December and I have a huge amount of them they might be next. I was at Miniaturemarket today and nearly bought 2 Megabosses on Mawkrushers to lead my Orruks, thinking of repainting them in the AFC Richmond Greyhounds colors (I have just finished watching Ted Lasso with my wife and we immediately began rewatching it ). I did manage to walk away with only buying a couple more paints, even having picked up the Mawkrushas and a great unclean one (then putting them down)....multipletimes.
Picking up the oldest daughter from work shortly, then Tylenol PM and sleep.
Hope the head is better! The army of bark looks great and too bad about the attachment to the base. It's always frustrating when the minis don't stick on it.
So it's about to happen again . Making good progress on something, Sylvaneth, and then I get a bad idea which starts to develop in my head. This usually spells doom for a project .
Over the years I have not spent too much time delving into the story of AoS, I have no idea about some factions, and have some wrongly developed ideas about others. So the other day I started looking at eventuallu building the Orruk army after Sylvaneth. I should be getting close to 2000 points of Sylvaneth pretty soon with the models I already have, and looking at Orruks I think I can safetly make 2000 points, especially if I add my 3d printed Rogue Idols. That handles Order and Destruction. I have a bunch of Maggotkin, easily 2000points that I can eventually repaint, But I do not have Undead to any real levels. So I started looking at the different factions of Undead...Soulblight Gravelords is new and everyone and their sister is building them. I kind of want to build them also, but I want to go wolf heavy and I do not like Belladomma and the sprue from the cursed city group is $125 , and you need the main character to field that unit, which even without him is like 700+ points, so no . The OBR does not appeal to me...I'll leave it there. The ghosts with big clown Lord Skeletor also does not draw me in, If I was in England with the Hatchette magazine subscription to make building it easier and cheaper, then possibly. The last Death option are the Flesh Eater Courts. I always just thought of them as zombie and ghouls.
...Oh was I wrong . I started watching some videos about them and my fragile little mind is blown . How did I not know that they see themselves as Knights and Aristocricy. Seriously they look at themselves and see themselves as knights on horses charging at their enemies which are all evil/chaos (Including that Sigmar). The height is because they are these huge hulking brutes, not because they are on horseback, but thats not what they see. The Carrion King puts these visions in their heads as he himself sees it all that way because he had once Looooooooooooooooooooong ago been a knight. They see the crumbled castles as beautiful mansions and they do not see the cannibalism that they perform. It is insanely AWESOME.
I was never a fan of Brettonia and I get people wanting them back, but these guys believe that they are the remenants of that society. Complete with Holy Grail and quests. So where the models may be 3 Crypt Horrors charging at the enemy, in their minds it's 3 knights on their steeds in resplendent attire and armor bravely charging the enemy. Who know, the Terror Geists could be their ideas of a knight on a Hippogryph. Zombie Dragons could be a Knight on a pegasus or a Noble Dragon. All the Ghouls are just the men-at-arms bravely holding the line.
Utter psychopaths, but it really gives me more of a feeling of a fun army to play. Plus the Starting costs are cheaper on them than some of the other armies to create, especially if you do a terrorgeist horde. So while I have some Sylvaneth to finish painting, I am afraid that I will shortly be buying some FEC models .
Oh, dear. Well, Strigoi were always my favorite vamps. The new models are fabulous, so I look forward to living vicariously through your new army idea.
youwashock wrote: Oh, dear. Well, Strigoi were always my favorite vamps. The new models are fabulous, so I look forward to living vicariously through your new army idea.
Angry forest looking quite good, as well.
Well, luckily stuff came up which means I couldn’t swing by the shop and plunge into Flesh Eater Courts/Brettonia 2.0 . Also I’m still trying to think of ways to base the FEC before I pull the trigger. Almost all the basing I have seen for them is just barren dirt with a few tufts of dried grass. While I have considered doing that as well, I thought maybe some pumpkins for a Halloween vibe...
.
Probably not .
Anyway, here are 16 more FN dryads with tree accents.
And a tree Lord who just got a whole bunch of green after this was taken.
Just realized I’m painting future stakes to deal with the Vampires .
Not sure if the pumpkins will make it to the bases, I had gotten a Kickstarter for bases a while back and there’s are some desolation bases that I just sliced. Those will be getting the next batch of prints tonight.
In the mean time...
The Knight/Lords......
1 Abhorrant
6 Crypt horrors/flayers/ somethings
30 ghouls
Looking forward to what you do with FEC. They are one of my favourite factions for that very reason... though they do get very samey to paint.
There was a great story when they first came to AoS where an adventurer was going into one of their lairs looking for treasure. The further in he ventures, the more resistance he faces, so he assumes that he's getting closer and closer to a massive treasure horde. In the end he finds a room full of viscera that they see as glorious treasure and protect it as such.
Well this week at work has been slower than usual. I had never brought models to assemble to work before, but today all the doctors are out of state and my co-worker has been ill this week, so I have been sitting watching the 2 major court cases being televised in the US right now all week long. I have also whathed Shang-Chi today at work. 3 flipping phone calls all day long and just a couple emails that were a snap to deal with.
So I assembled all 30 ghouls and 6 big guys (3 as Crypt Horrors and 3 as Crypt Flayers). I had assembled and painted the Abhorrant last night, but not too happy with him, so no pictures yet. Last night I also ordered 2 start collecting Flesh Eater Courts boxes.... So 6 more big guys, 20 more ghouls and either combination of 2 zombie dragons or terror geists will be inbound SOON. There are tons of extra bits in each box, GW should just give the big guy box another half sprue with just extra leg and torso parts so you can make 6 models from each box instead of 3. I think if I get creative I might be able to make a couple coming out of rumble or something to help bolster the army. I believe there are twice as many heads as needed on the ghoul sprues as well as extra arms, so either battlefield casualties or men at arms crawling up the ladders to man the parapits (you pitiful lot would see them as ghouls coming out of the floorboards ).
Since the FEC believe themselves to be knights I want to try and think of ways to bring that across, and maybe some of you will have some ideas to share. The only one that I could come up with and I think it fits the ghouls facial looks are to have a couple of the models who have open hands to have coconuts in them to make the horse noises , because if you are going to steal ideas of fake knights from anyone, you need to steal from the best . I might also have a crypt ghoul courtier named Tim....
Today is the wife's 46th BDay. So fancy dinner tonight, I also got tickets (For just before Christmas), for her and I to go to a cocktail theatre where all the staff are dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland. We will be making and sampling cocktails based upon the story. It sounded interesting to me and I think she will enjoy it.
The background of the FEC is really cool and it definitely is one of the easier armies to get into and paint. Excited to see, what you will do with them. Coconuts seem like a good start
Thanks guys, in the dulldrums again . I tried to make myself like the FEC with their history and mindset, but not a big fan of the models. I wanted a faction from each of the four groups (Order,Chaos,Destruction and Death) but none of the undead cried out to me, so unfortunately it was a case of cash in hand needed to be spent and I leapt at a good deal. I’ll get back to them eventually, but like most projects it’s a side burner.
I have also gotten to the point again of saying “to hell with an army” and just painting what I feel like tackling at the time, which is a good thing. So as a palate cleanser I decided to dip my toes into a river of blood.
Had an angry urge and repainted this guy from an underworlds warband. A little Blood for the Blood God River in the desert and cacti for extra base embellishment.
Also as I have enjoyed Ted Lasso far too much lately I have started my AFC Richork Greysquigs team.
Stupid me deleted the pic of the one mostly completed model , and it’s too far to the basement to go retake it tonight.
Have a work project as the main doctor wanted us to do the Christmas wreath contest this year, he told me to come up with a plan, so I gave him two this morning. He really likes the one I personally like the best so we will start on that. I just spent an hour trying to patch the resin printer to get it to work, I have had a couple dozen failures and issues, but some hard work and doing a couple stupid things might have gotten it to function. I’ll see tomorrow as I just started a print. Hopefully it saved me from a new screen and other parts $100 or more .
I haven't really been too incredibly impressed with the nighthaunts, until I got my hands on some of the models. They look really neat in person.
Something to think about, death-wise.
Good looking stuff, though. Glad you made some progress with the printer, and I hear you about those darn stairs . . .
AFC Richork Greysquigs are off to a great start, and Khornedude looks suitably brutal.
I get what you mean about the FEC...the models are largely dull and uninspiring to me. I do not mind the Terrorgheist/Zombie Dragon kit but it is the best of a bad bunch.
The complexities of 3D printers certainly pilot me off, best of luck in sorting yours Theo.
Everything is at a standstill right now. Wife's grandmother has COVID for the second time even though she is fully vaccinated, our youngest daughter also is positive for Covid and Strep throat and then my son was sick yesterday as well, but his tests just came back negative for Strep and Negative for Covid. Also project for work is taking up a lot of time that I would otherwise be using if my painting area wasn't right next to the sick one in our house.
Also i was reminded that
was not allowed.
I may have to push it and sign the presents from our cats instead of Santa this year
So I work in the Ophthalmology office at a children's hospital here in Saint Louis,Missouri. I schedule patients to have eye surgery and regular appointments as well. I started here 4 months ago after leaving a position at one of our off site facilities. The transition has been...a challenge, but I know I am up to it. They originally told me this was a two person job, but after I started and got them to make a few changes things are running like a well oiled machine with me and the former secretary who now only comes in once or twice a week. I have way too much free time at work on my hands, but they don't mind as long as I am here to take care of problems and keep their schedules full. I was approached a week or so ago by the main Provider saying that the department has not competed in the inter department contests in a couple years and wondered if I would like to help them "Represent". During different holidays they do different decorations, I wondered why we didn't have a decorated pumpkin for Halloween, but I wasn't going to ask. So for Christmas (Yes, we are a Christian Hospital so we say Merry Christmas), we have wreaths to decorate, and I was elected. I came up with two ideas, and it was a tie between the two, luckily I'm the bloke who gets the final say as I am making it.
Project reveal time: Minion Christmas
I still have about a dozen more Minions to paint up, I primed them last night, but left them at home . I also have a second strand of lights that I will add onto it as it seems a bit under powered. I have to finish it by Monday at 5 PM to display it in the main hallway of the Hospital. Next Friday all the Departments have to walk the wreaths around in the patient rooms on the floors for judging.
It might not be wargaming related, but I used: my printer to make the Minions, My paints and brushes to decorate them and my Hobby Time to get it all done.
Well, what would it be without me changing directions again .
Time to return to the roots of Grimdarkness. I loved the drawings of Azrael and his Watcher in the Dark helmet bearer. I think I bought the model 4-5 times over the years hoping my next crappy paint job would do him justice. I never wanted a Dark Angels army though as they were a bunch of monks in space hiding their homosexuality behind closed doors and they couldn’t decide on their own color scheme . Also one of my best friends was painting them, and back in those days you didn’t step on other peoples armies , so I did Blood Angels instead, until I inherited another friends Ultramarines in a trade. Plus I never understood how the space monks also had a Native American root as well as a knightly order .
Struggling for years with space marines I have repainted everything multiple times and continued to purchase more and more keeping up with trends and chasing trends. Building armies off of my interpretation of articles and lore only to have them changed by the next codex with a blurb wiping out the chapter by a Tyranid invasion. All I achieved was a drained bank account and a mountain of shame. So what will make this any different? Probably nothing at all, except maybe history itself.
I get bored of painting one thing over and over, especially marines, who didn’t vary much within a chapter. Sure you have librarian, chaplains, techmarines and the occasional special characters with extra bling, but they all wind up looking same-ish. The Dark Angels however, they are all together different. They have three distinct color schemes within their Legion. Green massed hordes, the original Stormwing, the color of their home worlds forests and a true army uniform color . Black for the sneaky ravenwing speed freaks who hunt down the traitorous Fallen and have perfected road rage in a universe with no roads, makes them even more ragey. Lastly the bone colored (yes, I prefer bone white to look more like bone than white ) armor of the Deathwing, honored brothers and keepers of the secret shame of their failures.
So where to begin...this time. While I have plenty of plastic soldiers from the past, I also had purchased two of the Indomitus boxes as well as two copies of the Elite Edition starter and with some Christmas money I picked up the Shieldbreaker Strikeforce so plenty of models to build a Dark Angels Host.
This post is already long in the tooth, so I’ll drop some pics and go from there.
The new edition brought so many marks of new armor it’s stupid....really...I think it’s stupid. I love these new heavy Intercessors and regular intercessor kits and style, but I do not like the scouts, aggressors, or jumping gun guys. It’s Christmas time, so it was proper to paint up some Christmas tree marines.
The NuMarines so far do not have terminators, although I guess the Aggressors could be considered their replacements, but the Dark Angels have inducted the Bladeguard Veterans into the Deathwing, and I can be down for that .
Characters are what make any army more Unique. While these guys are the pretty new special guys from the Indomitus box, they are regular characters. The next set of these guys will get more bling of the Dark Angels Variety added to them, currently my resin printer is dead. The screen needs replacing and there are other priorities right now money wise before I can justify buying a new screen. It’s less than $60, so not terribly expensive considering the money invested in this hobby, but I also do not need a distraction right now.
The new job has given me extra days off during the holiday break, so we have done a three bedroom swap with the kids and storage areas, mainly at the expense of my painting area in the basement which had been overtaken by my youngest moving her bedroom down there without my permission. It’s the biggest reason I have been unable to get much done over the past few months. But with her downstairs and the rearrangement of the other rooms in the house I have moved a desk into the new storage room which keeps me from having to go to the basement corner spot to paint. So motivation has returned. Hopefully I can keep it up. I have to work at church today, but I can paint for a while before then. Hopefully some progress will be had.
Good to see you back in action. We're also planning a kid room swap, must be the time for it I'm also slipping into the grimdarkiverse but with aeronautica, it's funny how no matter how far we explore other hobby avenues we keep coming back to it in some form or other
Oh don’t. I swore no more building 40K armies last year… and here I am with a Drukhari one being built as we speak! Damn that grimdarkiverse!
Anyway, great work on those DA. I’m with you on the sameness of space marines and have been down the same route three times before too. It is worth looking at the camo schemes in some of the early Rogue Trader books for some extra variation, and throw in a Deathwatch vet every now and then so the silver arm/pad breaks things up a little too?

I feel for you with room moves. It is necessary, but also just traumatic with the shear amount of stuff to move and things to pitch. Somehow like us they find ways of stashing more things than what should fit.

I Am a big fan of the universe, even with G-man back, the lore is just fantastic. Our group from 20+ years ago was pretty tight. We had a dedicated Eldar, space wolves, Dark Angel, Ultramarine and my Blood Angels which then were replaced by my Chaos marines, and then the inherited Ultramarines and my Imperial Guard (“into the box with you”) that annoyed opponents. Topped off with some Tyranids which were just to really annoy one person.
I did a bunch of painting today in increments, which I could break up with other projects now that the painting area is on the main level of the house. I’ll post some pictures later possibly tomorrow. I also did a quick dive into the basement to grab some things and looked into one of the marine boxes of still sprued happiness. I literally pulled out a small ravenwing bike army that is still on sprues. I think it was 5 bikes, 2 attack bike side car sprues and a landspeeder sprue along with a bunch of ravenwing accessories. This morning I black primed the new speeder that came in the Shieldbreaker strikeforce along with 8 outriders, so I have some ravenwing to start painting later. I hope the primer worked out okay as it was only 25 degrees Fahrenheit out, but I had the primer inside and immediately brought everything in after I sprayed it so nothing would freeze up.
Edit: took progress pictures...walked upstairs and accidentally deleted the progress picture . Well at least you get a photo of the stretch stormhawk. Not sure if I should paint it up black for ravenwing or bone for deathwing/command.
Nice to see you pick up the cool marines! Seriously, DA are a blast to paint and look really cool when done; there's a reason why I picked them as my first army and they remain my favorite.
On the Stormraven, to be fluff-correct it should be green or perhaps bone colored; they are not part of the Ravenwing and wouldn't be black. However, it's your model so you do you; I'm sure it'll look good however you do it.

Thanks for that info . Green will most likely be the route I go then with it.

Well it’s been a week from heck and still motivated, so that’s some good news.
Progress is progress, even when it’s one model. I really like most of the look on the new speeder, the only part I don’t like is the turret on top. Really just that there is a gunner whose body is I need the engine compartment . I’ll either make it work or pull him out and mount the weapons firm. Over all it’s a nice kit. I even have it partially assembled where the pilot compartment rollbars and roof of the engine compartment are not glued, which made painting the instrument panels easier.
Space inside the back might be perfect for holding the weapon options.
oh yeah, that back piece is definitely worth turning into a little storage box for the options!
I agree that the placement of that turret is a bit... questionable. Is it too late to cover up the gunner and turn it into a servitor, or just a remote turret?

I would have preferred no turret at all, just add the forward missile pods as gun pods. Then again I like missiles , still have to do the under wing missiles, but otherwise transfers and basing to complete.
youwashock wrote: You're really burning through these Dark Angels. Very cool to see. Digging the Judiciar and speeder the most.
Thanks, I assembled 10 Intercessors and 10 assault intercessors yesterday from the Shieldbreaker strikeforce box set that I got at Christmas. These were the full kits, which is great as I was burned out with the same models from the Indomitus sets and the Elite edition boxes I had gotten. They are giving me some options to make some changes to the other kits I have as well. I think the first up are the assault intercessors which I also primed and got the initial layer of Caliban Green on this morning before heading into work. No pics as really not much to show. The two sgts I made in the kit had power fists and plasma pistols, not sure if those are even load outs that are allowed, but I liked their looks.
One thing that got me motivated is finding a new (to me anyway) youtube channel that really covered the Dark Angels. Actually they have a lot of the Legions covered, but they gave me a new feel for the Dark Angels in the first video which is long, but enjoyable. Thankfully, the narrator of the channel has a voice I can tolerate while I paint and I do not have to watch as all the videos are just him talking through a pretty detailed script while the images are slow pans of 30K and 40K artwork throughout.
The first video is a History of the Chapter
The second video deals more with how the Chapter functions
I always saw them more as just the robed guys with toys trying to hide their secrets, but he really lays out how they were the First Legion, had access to all the Weapons and were sent not to bring worlds into compliance, but to go and utterly annihilate the enemies of the Emperor. While they did bring worlds into the light of the Emperor they were not looking for accolades. The enemies they destroyed before other Legions even got to the systems were the big bads of Old Night. Also, they defeated the Rangdan (Spelling???) even with horrendous loses. The focus now being their secret shame I think is overplayed.
Anyway, I'm excited to work more on them. I'll be more excited once I can get my printer up and running again. You may see lots of bodies missing heads, I keep looking for helmets and heads that I can print once I am up and running again. I know somewhere in my mountains of shame I have tons of Ravenwing bits, but I think I got rid of most of the heads .
So one thing I have found is a speedy way to get the results I want. So I was going to take ample pictures and show some progress in the steps.....
well I guess the steps were really simple because I went through them so quick I forgot to take pictures Anyway, for the green Dark Angels
Prime Black (Rustoleum 2x flat black primer) cheap stuff, but great coverage. Being freezing temperatures outside I take out small batches already tacked to a box top and give them a quick spritz, then back inside with all of us before my fingers get numb.
Once dried and the family has stopped complaining about the smell , then I hit them with an overbrush of Caliban Green (Left) let them dry and then an overbrush of Warpstone Green (Right)
That's where I forget to take any more pictures. Finally a drybrush of Niblet green once the overbrushes are dried.
then it all gets a coating of Biel Tan wash. and they come out something like
armor joints get skavenblight dinge.
Guns: corvus black, mephiston Red, Iron warriors steel
Pouches and leather: Rhinox hide then gothor brown
Chest eagles: Corvus Black, Screaming skull then paraxetti white
The above is more for me to be able to replicate later. But doing 10 models at a time usually means the first step is dry by the time i'm back for the second step. 10 guys with all the green done in under 2 hours is good to me.
also something that speeds up the progress is using makeup brushes for the armor. I picked up these 3 brushes from walmart for less than $10 total.
I think they are made by Elf, or made out of Elves, either way they are cheap and perfect for dry brushes.
Don't you realise that the culling of elves for brushes is part of the reason we don't see so many these days - it's creating more room in the biosphere for those interloper Aeldari.
While most would think you could just give the Eldar a haircut (#spacehippies), a true son of the emperor knows you must take the scalp along with the offending head off of the body .
Not a great shot, really need a litebox especially in this room.
Still have to do the side fairings/legs and exhausts for these guys.
I have 3 fully assembled and primed and another 3 still on sprue along with one that has taken to the open road I guess as I cannot find him anywhere , though my searching has been kind of secondary to everything else.
Snow tonight , but I might try and get the 10 intercessors and the storm eagle primed when I get home so I have stuff to do over the three day MLK weekend ahead.
The Lion returns....or at least a huge cat. She must be a chaplain because she is driving the next 10 intercessors to battle with a renewed zeal.
Also finished the cowls on the 5 ravenwing
More intercessors are ready to start and I hand primed the stormraven. I know it’s suppossed to be green or bone colored....but it looks so nice being black . Tactically it should be bone to go into a Deathwing formation and drop a dread and some termites onto the board and give some firepower, just not sure how the bone color will look...guess we will find out. Also since I’m making these all Primaris (except terminators), they cannot ride in the Stormraven, so I guess Bone it is.
Also work related I’m back I need my office after 4 weeks of temporary office due to remodel and Asbestos removal. My coworker also returns today as she has been off for the whole time. Just too much for her to work around since she had her stroke.
THanks, the next 5 intercessors are done.
Quick basic color scheme is so helpful.
I might have found a whole bunch of old bike marines, unfortunately I used all the wheels in a kitbash years ago . I’ll have to either source some from zinge industries or print some replacements. I did order the new screen for my AnyCubic last night and it should deliver sometime Sunday, so production can start back up soon.
So one visits the plog after two weeks and suddenly there's a whole army hanging around. Is there a nest? Great work pushing through the mountain of Primaris and getting the Emperor's finest done so quickly!
Well, another update and more completed, 8 more including a little bit of a conversion on a helmet.
I got a new screen for the AnyCubic and the first prints came out good, but then the FEP leaked big time . Of course that was the last of my replacement FEP, so I’ll have to order more of those.
Almost out of Primaris marines....what am I to do . I guess I have to start looking at what’s next on the purchase front, or switch to Necrons.
The Ravenwing could use a bike mounted chaplain , or I could get the Dark Angels Combat patrol, though I think it’s a bit blah. I can’t find 3 outriders on sprue that I know I have, and I still have 4 to paint up, along with the command sprue from Indomitus and a few more intercessors that I could build as assault or tactical.
Oh and 53 models in 3 weeks. It really is the elf Brushes doing 80% of the work.
Found the missing bikers.... I had them and put them in the drawer next to me ...getting old and senile.
Also started on 5 deathwing with claws.
The new FEP sheets will arrive Saturday, four days quicker than expected. I might be able to get some accessories printed this weekend.
The only things I was able to print with the new screen before the old FEP failed were these mirrored lightning claws similar to Chapter Master Hurons claws. They have actual finger claws and lightning claws. This extra blade guard guy got a matching set.
Worked on the printer for a while, frustrating to say the least. Hopefully it’s resolved as I started a batch a bit ago, but getting cuddles from the cat now so I cannot get up to go check .
Took a trip last night with the wife to buy her a MacBook Air. She’s been using school chrome books for the last few years, but as she is working on her Dissertation, anything written on the Chromebooks is “Technically” the schools, besides we have been saving up for it for her. The apple store we went to was in a shopping mall with a Barnes and Nobles, so I made a side journey there while she was being helped. I had heard they had received the first issue of Warhammer Imperium on the 26th so I went and grabbed 3 copies. Why? Because I got impulsive and at $6.95 an issue I got 3 more Bladeguard Sgt. And 3 more Necron Royal Wardens....and 18 dice . I’ll have to look at future issues and time my trips accordingly.
Speaking of Necrons....I have had an Urge...started repainting my scarab Swarms and assembled 12 skorptek destroyers, which got spray primed black earlier along with four unprimed outrider bikes.
I still cannot get a Necron scheme to work for me. I went and dub out my Tomb Kings armybook for inspiration.
Thanks guys . I might give those a shot, but I may have also stumbled upon a simple style that works.
Enter the 18 evil pumpkin swarms of DOOM.
I’ll have to see how basing makes them look, the orange glow is helping as the light blue I had used was not menacing enough.
Also a pic of the destroyers in their primed glory.
inmygravenimage wrote: Thin white into centre of weapons (or recessed symbol -o< bits) and Ryza rust for Osl perhaps.
Thanks, I'll try that out on one when I get home tonight. I really like the black depth on the engraved symbols. For me it looks "Alien" for a power weapon to be absorbing the energy in those spots. The picture above has drybrushed kindleflame for the highlights, a little hard to tell, but it's there. I gave them all an alternating effect by using Gryph Hound Orange over the top of the pictured area. I'll do another layer again tonight, possibly adding a little Blood Angel Red to some parts or hit the lighter area with some contrast Iyaden yellow.
Bad winter storm starting tomorrow night and lasting for a few days with Ice and possibly 12" of snow, I guess I might have some assembly time for 60 Necron Warriors, but I may have to hit the local shop for a Necron Combat Patrol...Just in Case .
Also torn on basinb between Astrogranite Debris and trying to find a sand texture that I like.
Today being the last day of the month I look at my model count and if I can get these guys power blades done I'll have rocked out 91 Models this month. I really owe it all to using the Elf Brushes and a simple paint scheme with batch painting. I don't think I have ever done a recap post for what I've done over a 1 month period before. Stay tuned. There are also a few Necrons partially done, and a few Marines primed and ready, so I could push for 100 this month depending on how tonight goes.
Well that’s about as good as they’ll get powerwise. Definitely not award winners, but definitely tabletop from what I’ve seen locally.
Also did more details on their legs.
And added 4 plasmacytes to the complete list
95
Not breaking 100 this month. Had to stop and get a haircut because of event the wife and I are attending over this weekend. So I guess the next steps for Feb. will be assembly of warriors.
Edit: half hour, including assembly, to knock out number 96. Not perfect but good enough.
In bed now, so 96 it is.
Wow! 96 is an immense output, the Dark Angels and now Necrons are looking fantastic. Hoepfully you escape the storm unscathed and with lots of newly assembled minis!
Well church activities tonight are also cancelled, so time to try for a daily record....or nap...definitely an nap, especially if I can get one of the cats to go with me.
Finished assembling the first royal court from Indomitus box 1, also the characters from the elite boxes and the three extra royal Wardens from the first Warhammer Imperium magazines I picked up last week. So what to do next? Assembled the second court figures as well.
I need to track down the big bases for the second Skorpekh Lord and Doom Stalker.
Taking a break to get a 1/4 inch (6-7mm) of ice off the cars and sidewalk, then grabbing a cat and taking a nap.
I’ve had Star Wars clone wars animated series going while I’ve been painting and assembling the last week or so. The younglings are on Florim working with Hondo now....I don’t see that ending well .
Thanks guys. They make wonderful models, the refresh of the range is great. I also noticed that, at least in my eyes, they look very Tyranidish. The larger models in particular as they have the armor plates that seem to match closely to the Tyranid exoskeletal structure, the back protrusions/vents and since they are skeletal they have the similar rib system. Not sure if that was a design choice or just “everything is vaguely human” design of Star Trek influencing the designs. Even the fact that the Destroyer cults have more arms (like Tyranids). Perhaps the original Necrons knowing of the great devourer, incorporated some of the tyranid designs, kind of adapting to the adapters.
Anyway, about two hours worth of interrupted work got these 17 guys primed, base coated, highlighted the silver and then the layers of gold/bronze added.
If/when I decide to do Iron Warriors again I will definitely be using this technique. Super fast and I think it has great results. I might have to do some test models, especially if they ever release the box set for Horus Heresy.
OMG, you look shortly to the left, look back at your desk and suddenly there's a mass of new minis done or in very advanced stages Hope you can keep up the tempo to our enjoyment!
Slinky wrote:Loving the orange Necron weapons, an unusual but v effective choice!
Thanks, exactly what I was hoping for, different, but still spooky.
Viterbi wrote:OMG, you look shortly to the left, look back at your desk and suddenly there's a mass of new minis done or in very advanced stages Hope you can keep up the tempo to our enjoyment!
Thanks, yeah, the speed these are cranking out is making me very happy. Tons of points done and on the table top.
Well now we have a problem Houston. I was not planning on this production speed obviously. Also did not have two snow/Ice days of painting time planned either with most likely tomorrow being another snow day. I almost went to the local shop on Tuesday afternoon to pick up some more figs and paint, but figured I had enough, I was wrong. I am almost out of my black basecoat. I’ll use what I have to start the Warriors, but I don’t think I have enough for the 60 I have assembled. Outside we have a ton least 8” of snow on top of 1/4” of ice, so going to the local shop is not in order, even if they are open.
Until then photo drop. 17 models from assembly to paint in 2 snow days. I feel good about it.
4 murder buckets.
5 Wardens, one was done last month.
One of the 2 Skorpekh Lords, the other is done too, just didn’t need to be in the terrible shot.
Second of the two doomwalkers. Still needs it’s shoulderpads which I left off to get details done.
4 Lords one was a repaint from my old color scheme.
2plasmancers
I guess I still need to do eyes, I’m leaning towards Purple or Black...suggestions are welcome.
Edit: Well I got 30 primed black before I ran out. Hopefully that keeps me busy.
Edit2: first 30 basically done, just one question.
The whole army right now has the gold/brass shoulders except these guys. Should I give them the shoulders? Or since they are grunts who are meaningless leave them with silver.
Also I say basically done because, I need black to do their gun cables . Otherwise another 30 minutes of work to do including the shoulders if I go that route.
D'aww, she looks like a sweet kitty! Necrons are turning out great too.
One concern I've had about possibly getting a cat of my own is that I'm afraid of their habit of knocking things down off of shelves and tables all the time. When it's something like a piece of paper, a pen, or an empty plastic drinking glass it's no big deal, but if it's an expensive Warhammer miniature (or a whole shelf full of them), that frightens me. I figure if and when I have children I'll have to tackle that problem, but I don't want to have to deal with it now. I'd get a bird instead, but they are sensitive to chemical fumes so between my glue, paints, and especially my 3D printer that's a no-go.

She is the favored of our four cats.....or at least she favors me out of the four. She is in my lap right now as I type. None of the four have ever knocked my models off the shelves or done anything bad. But then again they play well with each other and we have toys of their own to mess about with.
I picked up the Necron Combat patrol today...so there are new recruits for the Cat’n to bolster her forces. Also got the last pot of Corvus Black and a pot of Shyish Purple which I will test out as eyes.
Working on the Doom Scythe.
Left is actual model, the right is one I printed last year on PLA printer. I think I have a second one downstairs. They are the same width and length with overall same dimensions. I think they are passable.
We have a new pair of Burmese kittens (rest well our 20 year old Burmese that is no longer with us).
I was painting the other day and heard a nasty crunching sound to find one of them had taken a liking to the Primarch Sanguinus model that I was in the process of putting together. Fortunately no major harm done, but damn does it not understand how much those Forgeworld models cost? Or that the resin is probably pretty bad for him?
Sorry, production has diminished, family and health stuff.
Did get the 5 death mark done, added the purple for the eyes, probably need to do a dot of actual purple over this contrast, but not doing “standard” OSL kind of adds to the “xeno-ness” in my mind.
The immortals are assembled and all the black and silvers are done.
No need to apologise - even with RL interfering, you're still mighty productive, and they are going to be a scary bunch of space bots stay safe and well, bro.
Painted up the Immortals, still have to hit the cables.
I’ve gone and gotten all the bases (except the 30 warriors) textured.
Not sure of the color I will go with the basing, definitely should be light though.
Deathmarks look great and a single dot would look great (knowing that he never does it on his own minis ). Croissants look great, they can be quite nasty on the battlefield irc.
Thanks guys, long week was long. Exhausted. I did fix the resin printer finally, I’ve been stupid and been doing something wrong, but I blame it on buying parts in bulk and them not coming with instructions . Anyway, printer goes BRRRRRRRRR.
Kind of at a standstill with Necrons again. Caught on basing, just not motivated either.
I keep looking at the 40k rules and AOS rules and cry at the bloat. I’d like to try the one page rules stuff out, but the local shop is so fixated on tournaments .
Thinking about stripping down all the Bushido models I have to repaint them in a more unified color scheme per faction.
Oh well... hopefully some company shows off something to distract me.
inmygravenimage wrote: Excellent fellow. Kobarf's STLs are excellent. And not paint is lush.
Yep, sabertooth and Juggs just off the printer, but now it’s time to watch the new episode of 1883 with the wife.
I started printing Chaos Dwarf Immortals, besides the captains, standard and musician that I already printed, the unit has 5 regulars, each has options for axe, sword or spear with their shields. Each of the five I’m printing in batches of three with all options. It’ll take 2.5 hours per print, but will start an army build pretty quick.
Sleepless nights can be productive....even if just printing and a lick of paint.
Caine Marko, Juggernaut, at 9’5” and 1900 lbs he gives a Space Marine something to fear.
One of my favorite characters from Marvel. Not a mutant, but magically empowered by the crystal gems (I thought it was bands, but the marvel fandom page says otherwise) of Cyttorak.
3Dprinted him last night it has Sabertooth and a bunch of Inmortal Chaos Dwarves from Lost Kingdom MINIatures. Sabertooth top center. Each disc is 3 of the same Inmortal with their shields and options for axe, spear and sword. There is a third CD on the cure machine right now with the fourth pose printing as we speak.
I really need to get some new Isopropyl solution as my old stuff is quit past it’s prime.
Also got the musician painted up last night during one of my sleepless fits.
And backside detail to see the giant horn this guy has .
Finished slicing the king who goes on the throne/Palaquin and his attendant. Also sliced up a tray of palaquin carrying slaves (12 on each tray, 6 flavors). It’s pretty big, then again it really is inspired by the 300 movie.
Juggernaut looks unstoppable. And it is the Crimson Gem that empowered him. Crimson Bands is a spell Dr. Strange likes to use. 300 inspired minis look cool. The palanquin sounds like it will be most impressive. Can't wait to see it.
That 3D printer is making your already impressive output border on ridiculous.
I guess not sleeping also helps. Sorry about that.
Stuff is looking really cool, though.
Thanks Everybody. Hard day at a quiet office today due to lack of sleep and not even phones ringing.
youwashock wrote: Juggernaut looks unstoppable. And it is the Crimson Gem that empowered him. Crimson Bands is a spell Dr. Strange likes to use. 300 inspired minis look cool. The palanquin sounds like it will be most impressive. Can't wait to see it.
There are 42 freaking slaves carrying the throne, thats 4 batches of build plates just to do them .
forgot I had saved this photo of the monthly patreon I got these from way back when.
I had printed out the beast, but the tower was too big for my build plate
First they get their large hats and the next thing you know they have increased the size of their palanquins to ridiculous proportions, all to increase their stature...dwarves always touchy about their height.
Sorry for the disappearance again. Lots going on, my mom is going into surgery now. Routine for her, but being 86 years old and her previous issues, nothing is a minor procedure anymore.
In better news, I had a supply drop recently.
No I have not gone golden bois. they will be converted to Talon Masters. ATV will also get converted given time.
Those jetbikes are awesome models. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Thanks, mom I see out of recovery and in bed at home now. Everything went smooth, hopefully this will alleviate some of the weekly issues we have been having.
At least with a day off the printer has been going Brrrrrrrrrr. Adding stuff me BIG points to the Dark Angels .
Edit: Did I say BIG? I meant BIG, like Leviathan BIG.....
Could that be a friend in the yellow box next to him?
They will both be close combat leviathans. The sets of arms are printed and in the cure machine right now. Printing the arm power cables for both of them now. Claw tips and drill tips will print in the morning.
The first Talon master doesn’t have much customization yet.
Swapped the lance for a DA sword, and replaced front guns with two heavy bolsters mounted inside the Chassis. I’ll need to bits dive later to look for twin assault cannons which I want to mount under the rear section of the bike on an under slung scorpion type mount.
My plan is to make two guys like this and use the last one to make Sammael. Original Talon masters rode in the land speeders with twin heavy bolsters and twin assault cannons, but I’ve seen plenty of conversions lately using these jet bikes.
Also found stl files for a Space Marine ATV which looks like like the Batman Tumbler. I much prefer that than the Mario Kart.
Wife is out of town for 4 days of conferences . Lots of work to be done around the house in the mean time a second I a man ordering carpet tomorrow and need to rearrange the new hobby room.
These days go by too quick. Not much progress on the leviathans, at least they are printed and assembled. The arms are just poster tacked in place right now and the phosphorex launchers are loose laid on the top. Brother prickly fingers still needs the power cables attached to the arms, but they are not necessary and just another thing to break off.
Really rethinking this color for the Deathwing. I’ll have to look at some other options on YouTube for inspiration.
I have the cables printed for the leviathans, I just don’t like exposed cables, seems like a poor idea.
I got a bit distracted by a Titanicus video....then bought the rules box for Adeptus Titanicus....then started printing .
Third Lucius warhound has an hour left to print. I have then mirrored the file and tilted it further because of all the flat surfaces which did not print well due to supports
Still looking at the different legions, but thinking about legio vulpa (Khorne possessed Titans), but mainly leaning traitor for the chance to convert.
Well, once again I get a wild idea and I start running without fully figuring things out . The STL file says it needed to be upscaled 133%....so everything I printed was... too small. Here’s the two sizes side by side.
I feel your pain on the scaling thing. I'm subscribed to the Ghamak patreon (he does some really nice 40k proxies) but I've found that most of them are too big and need to be scaled down, which probably means the presupported files won't work. I've heard that sometimes you can get away with scaling down presupported models as long as you don't go beyond like 85% (presumably scaling up might have a similar safe range), but I have yet to try it.
