I was at the local GW store today and there was a poster for the Games Day which said that at the German Gamesday they would show us some sort of new exciting thing nobody has heard of so far. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Plastic Thunderhawk or Trygon?
WHFB Fishmen?
Another Lord of the Rings game nobody wamts?
Possible debut of the 40k MMO maybe? Planetstrike is well known, and we already know about the trigon. The thunderhawk is a possibility, though it's bigger than a warhound titan so I still debate the chances of that ever actually existing.
Is this another reference to the 'new anti-chaos race' for WHFB?

Actually in 2012 I think it was there is scheduled to be a 40k MMO and I can't wait for that TBH.
I heard they are making a WHFB army that is like asian Hrud i think it was.
Sorry, but I would bet big money it is Space Hulk. Remember that what GW thinks no one knows about, everybody and their long lost cousin already knows about...
Well, whoever goes, let us all know the huge secret.
I'm going for.......GW admits the credit crunch is upon us and that we can't spend as much money these days, so they're knocking 85% off the price of everything. Yep, I think it's that.

MMOs are debuted years before actual release.
Isn't 2012 the year the mayans predicted the apocolpyse to be in? Coincidence, i think not.

on topic: I really wish it was chaos dwarves. Especially if they are the style of the hellcannon crew. Not a fan of the big hats.
New race guaranteed for one of the two main games, and we'll know all about it within 12 months, apparently. Heard that about a week ago from a reliable source, wanted to see if anyone else had heard... Some seem to be more convinced it's WHFB in this thread, but I haven't heard anything else.

I'm hoping for Space Hulk. *Drools a little a the thought of fully plastic terrain*
Though maybe they'd be better off giving the license to Fantasy Flight.
GW Is going to announce they are removing the name Warhammer from all of there games and changing it to

and then they are going to announce another 5% price increase across the board. Kirby & Jervis want another raise and a trip to Aruba and they want you to pay for it.

Every language used in the last two thousand years is just an amalgamation of the languages that came before. Humans were able to communicate through speech thousands of years before recorded history.

Even so, the origin of that word is listed as Latin not German. Anyhow, lots of languages share lots of words - languages like swedish, german, english are pretty closely related, as you are saying. My point was just that it's not a german word used in english, but a naturalized english word.

This is the most realistic suggestion in this entire thread, and I find that deeply disturbing. There are plenty of stores with their own cards, so a GW store card is not without precedent. Given the propensity of gamers to buy far more minis than they'll ever paint, combined with the idea of just "putting it on the card", and exacerbated by (given GW's pricing) oh, I dunno, a 30% APR.....

K, I can't just let this one slide. I've never seen such obvious sarcasm get misinterpreted over petty arrogance. Do you also hate what our Australian Dakkaites have done to your language? Or anybody else that speaks English with something other than a British accent? Have you ever actually heard an American say that Americans invented English? (Besides in a forum post which is absolutely dripping with sarcasm) To hate a culture for simply using a dialect or accent that isn't yours... I can't even fathom such xenophobia.
I have in fact, ive met americans who have stated that we stole the language from them, ive also met candians and australians who also abuse the language, but these are mainly former colonial states, and they can actually speak english correctly, ive been told by an american that im not speaking correct english, that is the type of thing that im opposed to. I was about to mention that the 'English language isn't even particularly consistent across the UK, if Monty Python, Life on Mars, and Dr. Who have taught me anything.
(I've heard things have broken down as in the last decade or two policies on television personalities in the UK that pretty much mandated 'proper' English accent have been dropped, so you hear a bit more pronounced accents and such now... Otherwise, it seems like everyone sounded like John Cleese. Not that there's anything wrong, as he's got a good voice.)
does any of you guys really think that GW has something in the pipeline that nobody knows of ?
highly unlikely if you ask me.
just checked the german GW website, this years games day shirt is "geheimsache" (man i love those german words ) meaning the motive will have something to do with the new product they will present.
i still think its spacehulk but its GW, so it could be something so well known to us that we would at least have a good laugh out of it
What is the most secretive of colors (or colours)? Well Ninjas are without a doubt the most secretive, however Ninja isn't a color. Ninja's do wear a lot of black so we can reasonably assume the secret color is infact black.
Now add our secret color to a Space Marine codex and we have...Black Templars!

Likely, it'll be well received but, seemingly on a whim, GW will shelf the project, only to turn around and license the name to FFG, so they can put out a superior product as a faster rate, and still make the game fun.
Flashman wrote:Muppets in Space, the movie tie-in 40K has been waiting for.

I thinking of the movie released in 2000 (or thereabouts) where Gonzo turns out to be an alien, but you're right. Pigs in Space was indeed fantastic and has great 40K potential (latter point is sarcasm).
What GW needs to do is release a real supplement for Fantasy, like they do for 40k, ie planetstrike. I'd love to mix things up a bit in the Old World. An updated Warhammer Siege would be excellent.
Seriously, when WFB sells in sufficient volume to merit further expansions, then WFB will get them. Mighty Empires and Legendary Battles were supposed to kick start things for WFB, but don't appear to have gone anywhere.
Apoc, Planetstrike, and Planetary Empires will likely do well, so 40k will continue to get more stuff.
I just hope it's related to something that already exists. When GW releases a little specialist game I just get irritated that they have resources going into something that nobody was asking for, when there is so much that needs to be done for 40k.
I'm guessing that it's something that we've already speculated about, but who knows. It might be another one of their half-baked little gems that dies out after a year.
Dark Eldar release date perhaps? I'd love that, but I know that won't happen anytime this year.
To the guy who asked "what is MMO?" - the answer is Massive Multiplayer Online, as in MMO RPG (Warhammer Online, for example).
Possibly.
In Squat-related news, I happened across an IG Codex from '95 that suggests they are working on a Squat Codex, to be released in the future. So there you go - after 14 years of honing and perfecting we might finally see what we (well, me) have all been waiting for:

Outstanding! So the Emperor has a new set of, uh, I mean a new army!
As long as whatever it is gives me the chance to say "PREPARE TO FIRE THE MEGA BEAM CANNON!!!!!", dramatic gopher pause, and then say "FIRE!!!!" as I peg the dice at whatever it is I'm shooting it'll be worth the $200,000,000,000,000 I need to spend in monopoly money on it.
Usually RPGs since they bring in the highest amount of interactive online crowd within one game invironment.
More realistically they are all RPGs because other genres don't survive the incredible amount of latency and lag compensation used in MMOs. They can't make other genres in an MMO fashion without jumping through massive hoops (like creating thousands of instanced zones per server).

As someone pointed out (I think it was Jeff Hall), what GW considers 'unheard of' has really been heard by everyone with an internet connection. What GW considers unheard is what they haven't officially announced yet.

I hope it's GW repackaging their paints line in the new pots that the washes and foundation colors come in already. Though what I'd REALLY like to see is them revert back to the older hex pots that the paints used to come in. That will never happen though. Those pots were awesome! Having agitators included like Reaper does would be cool. Right now my surplus SM heads are doing just that! (It'd be cool to get a random shoulder pad or miniature head as an agitator in every pot wouldn't it?)

I can't tell.
PLEASE, tell me this was sarcasm.
Eric
If I get started on all the countless ways 5th ed los rules were nothing but a massive, time-wasting blight on the game, I'll fill 4 pages of subject matter irrelevant to this thread. Suffice it to say that Necromunda (aka 'true') los rules were great in Necromunda because you only had a dozen models and all cover was solid... having to, not only fuss with such los rules over a couple hundred models, but have an opponent who also has to check each one to verify that you're not cheating, which inevitably leads to a million disputes per game? Not so cool... Playing against people using an army of crouching/prone infantry? Neither cool, nor in the spirit of the game. Landspeeders modeled low to the ground like cars instead of using super high bases which made them look infinitely more dramatic and cool? Killing a squad leader just because the model has it's hand sticking up high in the air just above cover? You can see where I'm going with this... I don't even play anymore because the shooting phase became a cumbersome chore that dragged the fun out of the game.
2 things will bring me back: New DE codex and/or going back to the nice solid 4th ed los rules (though a public apology would also be in order, imo.)
But there I go, I'm getting started. I should stop.
Ive never had any of those problems in 5th.. Guess im lucky in that I only play against tons of whiners not anal retentive.. Its the opponents, not the rules
People dont *have* to model to exploit, nor do they *have* to argue about every LOS when it really doesnt matter

WHEN is this Gamesday coming, so we can put this thread out of its misery?
Soon, right?
Please?
I think you've stumbled onto the secret Project.
It is the "There will be no GAMES DAY to disclose the project" project!
While we were slumbering, GW stripped all the GAMES out of the DAY and now it is just "come to a location we've rented out so you could give us money instead of going to a game store to play for free" time... masquerading as an event of importance.
Ozymandias wrote:Sounds to me the problem isn't the rules, it's the fact that everyone you play against is a douche.
That's kinda what I was thinking... but maybe it's not them.
Trust me, it's them. None of my friends play the game, so I'm always paired up against the stereotypical chinbeards whose self-esteem is based on their success in gaming. Even if it means shameless rules-lawyering. I'm too laid back to really care about how seriously they want to take it. I usually win anyway. But winning isn't that fun when opponents constantly accuse me of cheating just because they're absolutely positive that DE are supposed to suck.
Don't mean to derail the thread. Just defending myself. I don't nit pick at the rules, I'm just upset at the way 5th edition los accommodates those who do.
Which brings me back on topic: If 6th edition is announced, the first thing I would wonder is "What change did they deem to be so urgent as to warrant releasing another rule book so quickly?"
Sounds to me the problem isn't the rules, it's the fact that everyone you play against is a douche.
Here here!!!! I about fell out of my chair with that level of directness heheh. LOS has not been a real issue in most of my games or tourny games. The only time it comes into question is when cover may be involved especially on a big critter or vehicle. Then a laser pointer fixes that real fast.
6th ED are you crazy!?!!?!? It is more than likely a new army or a new box game like space hulk. I am betting on the space hulk.

i am not hopeing for this but i have a feeling that they may be releasing the chaos gods don't quote me but just a hunch. If choas and necrons get gods what will everybody else get, marines will get primarchs not sure about other people though

I cant see this happening. It would completely change the entire fluff of 40K. The Ctan god thats rumored to be the Machine God on Mars, Primarchs coming back, Chaos gods actually getting a physical form. This kind of stuff I could MAYBE see happening if GW gets desperate or wants to drastically change the landscape of the game.
I would, however, like to think its the Xeno Inquisition Iv been praying for sense the Deathwatch rules where released.
although if they were o be released there would be a huge adverising campaign about them i hope that the alie hunters are released, or an inquisition codex
Hollismason, that would be awesome if it was a midget
Chaos Dwarves are not a new race by any margin- rather GW has already been there, done that, decided they weren't worth the investment. And while its possible they changed thier mind, the mentality of GW seems like they regard themselves as infallible, and the dwarves are otherwise precluded by the leaked excitement of doing something new and never before done...
Call me crazy, but evil Dwarves arnt exactly ground breaking in terms of concept
JohnHwangDD wrote:Yeah, but evil Dwarves with giant 'ats and Assyrrian beard is!
They wouldn't even have to be overtly a Chaos, they don't worship any of the major gods, and their armylist doesn't share all that many units with the other Chaos lists (going off memory, CD's could take Dragon Ogres). What I'd do would be to recast them more as an independent evil army.

With an emphasis on infernal machines like juggernauts, gargoyles (like the one in Heroquest... aah, happy memories) and golems. It would also give them an opportunity to shift more Hellcannons (knowing GW, they'd recast it in plastic and make it both a special and rare choice ).

Dragon Ogres? You sure you aren't thinking of Bull Centaurs?
Chaos Dwarfs had a lot of 'slave' units (and could even get a unit of Black Orcs too, I think) that would come from the O&G book, but they had a lot of unique stuff too. And their god was sort of a 5th Chaos God, I guess...

The 5th would be Malal.
And then there's the Horned Rat for a 6th (or 13th).
The Great Maw goes back to early WHFRP. The Chaos Dwarves worship Hashut. I remember once where the minor gods (Hashut, Great Maw, Horned Rat) were kind of combinations of the major gods. So for the Horned Rat you get a mish mash of Tzeentch and Nurgle, for Hashut Khorne and Tzeentch, Great Maw is Nurgle and Khorne, etc.
Hollismason wrote:The announcement will be heralded by a great swarm of locusts with Lions heads blotting out the mid day sun. As a cacophony of voices read lamentations from Debate and Discussion threads on hating Games Workshop in E Minor.
Then a long line of nonbelievers their naked emaciated bodies bound with chains made of pewter from melted down Squat figures will drag a stone ark from the sea and as their eyes brim with tears as they are forced to light the funeral pyre of all second edition codexes known to man announcing and heralding the great rebirth of the beast known as Jervis Johnson.
As the great Stone Ark doors opens the foul bloated form of Jervis will emerge atop the backs of the few female wargamers his bloated distended stomache writhing with the hidden masses of genetic creations that Gamesworkshop developed with price increases over the previous years.
His mass will be laid upon the beach and as he squats he will birth the first slayer of man the Genestealer from his elephantine quivering stretched anus signaling the end of all mankind.

but its definitely got to be space hulk. Back with overwatch or whatever its called. who's bloody idea was that in the first place? If i don't move then next turn when they move I can blow them to pieces with my overpowered guns!

So does Malal, IIRC.

The Hashut and Great Maw are OK, as they're on the peripheray, but the Horned Rat is a problem - does he hate himself vor being a mixture of Nurgle and Tzeentch?
Honestly Brook, 99% of threads in the News and Rumours forum revolve around our inability to wait and see.
I know, but every time people take it in their heads that some form of extreme is the supposed norm without any form of confirmation I just want to... something.

And what of Khaine?
The Horned Rat is aspects of Nurgle and Tzeentch not both fully. Khaine is Khorne and Slaanesh. Think of the big 4 as a Venn diagram and where they overlap you get the minor gods with attributes of both.
Malal sits outside this as he is the aspect of Chaos that hates Chaos. Maybe he's the part of the diagram where all four converge.

Stop being so smart. I swore I would learn nothing new today, and now I have. Damn you.
Partially owing to a legal dispute with the guys who wrote some of the early fluff for GW and copyright/pwnership.
Also GW dropped most of the "Gods of Law" and so on to furtehr separate them from Moorcock et al, and also as it's a dumb idea.
They throw little teases into their games every now and again-- the dreadaxe from the previous chaos codex for example and the recent heroes of the space marines book has the Sons of Malice doing some stuff that some people have taken as involving Malal in some form-- they use his sacred number and some of the terms they use are Malal..err... ian ?ite ? In origin. Possibly.
He wasn't mentioned at all in the ROC books. Weirdly the "new" chaos god they invent in the LatD gets a passing mention in the new Grey Seer novel ! there's even a reference to a "magnin" throwing knife too if your fluff lore goes back that far.
I can predict with 100% certainty that if something happens to be going on, that within 5 minutes there will be a thread whining about how 'Why didn't they do...' to really spoil things for the rest of us
O.K. fishmen wouldjust be daft, slso very similar to lizardmen, however chaos dwarves/ind/araby/cathay...now THAT would be interestinng, chaospushes out its tendrills to the east and the east fights back...with fireworks!...also kislev would rock
An army of ogryn/ogre/trolls would be nice for 40k. Lots of tough smashy infantry and monstrous creatures with a few pieces of tech sprinkled throughout would make me happy.

there seems to be nothing very interesting there. Some tournament events, Planetstrike, plus random Games Day stuff like guests of honor, the FW queue and so on.
Agamemnon2 wrote:there seems to be nothing very interesting there. Some tournament events, Planetstrike, plus random Games Day stuff like guests of honor, the FW queue and so on.
The most "interesting" thing is the Games Day t-shirt which will have the "big secret release" for September printed on it.
Maybe they've after 10 years developed a comp system for tournaments that isnt only based on what the typical ultra marine player uses.. That would be huge news
Obviously, this is a ploy for GW to clear out their last remaining stock of Bommaz Ova Da Sulfa Riva in a new box:
- totally unheard of
- limited run
- standalone set
- only one shipment
- no reorders
- no advance orders
- not planetary empires
- a board game
- very few GW still remember this game
- 40k-related
H.B.M.C. wrote:Pre-ordering? Taco Bell also said no pre-ordering... did we read the same thing?
Changed my messed up wording. Sorry.
So, if GW allows to look at something in august and they sell it in september, visiting the site where they show it could help to decide
if its worth buying. I'll leave it at that.
I'm not sure if it's ok to post links to other web sites here, if it is please forgive me but reading this scares me. One box per store? You have to be there the day it comes in? Sounds like all of the GW employees will be enjoying this special.
I've been trying to buy the Imperial Guard hard cover book for months (can't remember the name of it) but every time a copy comes in one of the employees buys it and it can't be ordered!

Think this is Space Hulk? My thought is a limited ed. of the Blood Bowl game for the Consoles that will include the Blood Bowl board game as well. Could just be talking out of my a$$ though........ I could see the Marketing team at GW thinking this is a grand idea...
It's Hungry Hungry Tyranids, where each player plays a Tyranid and Squats are the food. This game will get kids that are even younger into the game (start them early!!!) as well as put to bed any complaints about the Tyranids eating the Squats.
BOLS wrote:So the plot thickens folks. In a highly unusual marketing move, word is starting to dribble out of GW of a totally secret product that will unveiled in stores in August. It is described as something totally new and unheard of, that will be a limited run.
So tha rules out Space Hulk, perhaps it's a reasonably priced figure.
H.B.M.C. wrote:Maybe it'll be game where you have to come up with interesting and inventive ways to punish Jervis for all the crap he's done to 40K in recent years.
A sequel to Trolls in the Pantry perhaps, Fools in the Studio.

When you say "it's going to be a hardcover of all 3 expansions," do you mean, "you think it is, but are totally guessing," or "you heard it is from a reliable source?"
And the 3 expansions, you mean Cities of Death, Apocalypse, and Planetstrike, right?
Talisman was already re-released last year through FFG.
Space Hulk seems a good bet for the "mystery product", though I was hoping for something else in addition to Space Hulk. Since the Space Hulk rumor's been around for months now, it would be nice to have another cool 40K surprise on top of that, like a new large model kit. If it's Space Hulk, that's not really a big surprise at this point, though it would still be a welcome release for many 40K fans.
JohnHwangDD wrote:If it's Space Hulk, that would be odd that they won't print more.
That is one thing that is surprising... So many people would want it why limit the sale?
Oh, I can see why they would do it, and all their justifications are completely in like with their business model, as well as being bloody stupid. For one thing, they're forcing people to buy it NOW, no time allowed to reconsider. Second, they're not letting you shop around for the best price, thus injecting more cash into their retail stores.

actually there was a thread almost 3 weeks ago on warseer but it got closed due to immature jokes about michal jackson and another thread got started at a later date.
i hope its a diarama of clagar and uriel ventris getting shafted by a bunch of grots and an offical statment of there deaths.
Well if it's "something they've never done before" can it actually be space hulk? It makes me think Plastic Thunderhawk. But they've made a metal one before so...
Hm it's a toughy. Hope it's worth the wait when we find out though.
Apone wrote: It makes me think Plastic Thunderhawk.
GW will need to sell a lot of these to justify the tooling cost for such a large kit.
Now, if it's in a numbered collector's box, I guess that could command some premium.
Maybe if it is the Plasic Thunderhawk, it'll be like the AOBR Plastic Defkopters (as far as I'm aware you can't get plastic versions outside of the box. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

I would like to see a new race just for kicks and giggles.
I forget if it was posted here or on Warseer, but someone pointed out they could easily do a limited edition version, perhaps with a special character, then re-release a regular version a year later. Apparently Axies & Allies (I think) did that with their anniversary edition or something?
As for it being something GW has never done before, I like the theory of having electronic watches for the players rounds (or some such) !
