I know that I have other Showoff threads, though I think that this is would be nice. So please, show your apocalypse armies. Those of you with Warhammer fantasy battle armies of Apocalyptic size may post to. I also want this to be a thread of Apocalypse Ideas. What I mean is that I want a place for people to bounce Apocalypse datasheet Ideas, such as mine.
Okay, for Ork players, I was thinking of a Savage Orc Tribe. This would be 500pts plus models, and would be about 500-1,000 points of Warhammer Fantasy Orcs. They would use rules like Figure of Mork, meaning that as long as the 40K Ork Warboss is in play, they would be Stubborn, and Unbreakable.
What do you think?

Here's the, mostly empty, boxes from mine.
Fortunately all I have left to paint is 24 gaunts, 24 hormagaunts, 20 odd ripper swarms a couple of mid sized bit's (lictors/fexes/ a malanthrope etc).
My Hierophant and my 4 Hierodules are still unassembled. I'm being good and saving them as a treat for when I have finished the chaff.
That should take me to at least 10K!
Hopefully I will be able to build both winged and a tunnellling swarms when the new codex comes out, so my completion date for this stuff is Jan.
A silly 2000 pt 6xtrygon/?xRavener and a 2000 pt 200xGargoyle type list should bump up the total to around 15,000!
Sorry for the lack of finished pics but they will come when it is all done. You will just have to be patient.
In the meantime look up my Tyranid army in my gallery.

The quality isn't great, and most of it is unpainted (though more of it is done now), but this is what I got. Just in case you REALLY can't see properly there are
2 tyrants (1 winged)
1 broodlord
3 tyrant guard
2 lictors
18 warriors
60 gaunts
60 hormagaunts
48 genestealers
2 zoanthropes
6 carnifexes

Ok so I did end up going and getting my stuff out (not all of the armies mind you) and I got to where I was in the picture and got tired of getting stuff out so I just stopped there.... Theres still about 200-250 orks not in the picture and a number of other random things Id rather not take the time to count Indeed all the stompas have LED lights in them (And speakers for that matter... Gotta love playing Austrian Death Machine thru your stompa mid battle) and Im still gonna put some in the Looted Baneblade(Skullhamma) and Looted Stormlord... Army has a bunch of repairs to be made and I need to strip all the currently primed/painted orks so I can paint them with a new technique but in due time...

Also, soes the amound of points in the Tank company allow infantry? I am thinking of making an army that includes one, and still has a large amount of infantry.

Not that it really feels like much after seeing some of these pictures, but...
Roughly 8,300 points of Ultramarines, about half unpainted. Saving up for Christmas presents at the moment, but come January I intend to about double this and also throw in a Titan (finally) and 3-4 Baneblades.
I bought my first AoBR box about a year ago, and since then I've pulled together everything in this pic, 2000 points of Necrons, 1500 points of Orcs, about 1000 points of Tau, and around 6000+ points of WHF Ogres. It's a very, very addicting hobby, lol! I'm slowly working up to you guys that have been playing for years ans years, but as of right now I see these pics and think things like, "If I sold my TV/360/ MTG collection/car I could buy some more Terminators/Land Raiders/a Baneblade."
Yes, I did consider selling my POS car for the cash to get a Spear of Sicarius and some other stuff. Is there a hotline I can call?

Since my pic was taken (about 3 months ago) I have now painted a lot more gaunts. My dakkafex is undercoated and have made a start on it. 2 tyrant guard are finished and the 3rd is well underway. Undercoating my 2nd tyrant (though I have since purchased a third). And instead of having 3 complete gaunts I now have 35 complete with another 8 basecoated and ready for the beginning stages.
I must say the new nid dex is a real nudge for me in the right direction.

BAM!
Hehe, I always feel bad fielding unpainted things, but time constraints get in the way, as well as the fact that I can't stop buying things.
I finally finished my Marines and started to paint, and then I went a little crazy and wound up with 2 boxes of Assault Marines, 2 boxes of Devastators, the Calgar box, some new Ogre Kingdoms stuff and a FW pre-Heresy Land Raider, so I had to build those.
Then I tried to get back to painting, and someone knocked the store demo board off the table, so I had to spend a few days repairing broken Orks and armless Termies!
Now my boss wants a Wood Elf army on top of the Tyranids I'm putting together for her, and now that I've seen the new 'nids I have to save up for some, and I just got a near-Apocalypse sized force of Necrons that all need to be repainted...dammit I don't have that kind of time.
sorry, /rant. Anyway, what I was getting to is that I don't always necessarily have time to paint everything, but I DO pretty much make sure that everything I field is at least basecoated well and looks nice on the table. The only exception is if someone comes in wanting to play the same day that I'm putting something together that's actually in my army list.
I still get teased about the day I decided my Ogre army needed another Butcher and grabbed one off the shelf, only to be pulled into a game within 10 minutes. I glued the Butcher's legs to his base, set it on the table and started apologizing, Lol.
Anyway, two weeks 'till my store hosts its big Apoc game, and it'll actually be my first game ever (and I'm now in charge of it >< , so I'll be posting pics. We're trying to keep it to 20,000 points a side, but I have a feeling it's gonna hit around 30k. God help me!

Try having 3 kids, a house payment, gasoline at 4 dollars a gallon, and no college degree to pay for it all in this economy, and we'll see how much money you have to buy forgeworld stuff!
Finding cheaper ways to do things is perfectly ok in apocalypse, because that is not a competitive game anyway. You don't see many Apoc tournaments. I don't see why you have to be like that about it.

Well, I agree with you in the fact that buying things is harder. I myself wanted one of those super mega laser defence turrets, but do not have the monies for it. So I am converting a Basilisk into a Griffon, and taking the bits of the basilisk gun I don't use, and making it into a super mega laser thing. I will be using one of those new Coca cola bottles that look like christmas balls to put on the tree.

lol i made a couple of them. also scratch built my own grav tank when armorcast came out with their version of the epic one. it was all card board and 2 small spoons to make the cannon front. there also used to be rules in Rogue trader and 2nd edition to make your own vehicle and vehicle variants. ahh 40K now is sooo coookie cutter.

I agree, and below is a picture of my progress for today.
I know, the pose is a bit static, but this is my first one so I wanted to keep it simple. I decided to arm it with a Vulcan Mega-Bolter and a Twin-Barreled Turbo-Laser Destructor.

I think you should try using plasticard. Because painting paper is not so good idea usually...

Yeah... I wish I could, but the paper one took long enough as it was! I can't even imagine having to cut and put together all those pieces in plasticard... *shudder*.

They do, its just they don't really have camoflague. Their armour is usually defined by a bright colour that is the main colour of the surrounding terrain.

Well, I have a Vehicle Design Rules HTML thing, but you have to have the rules from Chapter Approved 2004 in order to use them. I got them from the internet, I would credit the designers if I could remember who they are! You can make War Machines, which are a bit overcosted compared to Super-Heavy vehicles but have similar capabilities.

It's still in the rough draft but I was thinking of a giant creature with a bulging abdomen fill with spores. It slowly walks up to the enemy and shoots spores through chimneys which choke the air killing enemies and re-animating their bodies.(Think of the Flood infection forms from Halo.)Like I said it's still on the drawing boards so it might not see action for 5 1/2 months.

Should be a gargantuan creature, at least as big as a stompa.

Not even a baby squigoth... If you want to take the time and are good with gs i would suggest you start converting a LoTR Mumath or w/e the big elephant it. Stegadons are WAY too small imo.

Since then, I've added quite a bit. Hopefully over the holiday I can take a better picture, as I think that's about 7k, and I'm up to 11k fully painted. not shown are: Baneblade, three vanquisers, a medusa, three executioners, a couple of chimeras, four valks, a bunch of catachan vets, etc. I still have an annoying amount to paint, too.

Nice, though I heard it has the same footprint of a Baneblade.
4444
Post by: dwerger13
In game terms sure. But it's supposed to hold 60 infantry plus all it's ammo, fuel, equipment, crew.
I like how Dan Abnett describes them better in His Last Command. A valkrie lands on it's landing pad. " On the leviathan's back, he was as high up as if he'd been standing on the roof of a hive stack." Another quote "Sweep has now reached deck six and seven."
There are more discriptions, but you will have to read them yourself.
All in all the two quotes I noted above suggest a vehicle with a much larger foot print than a baneblade. What it really comes down to is anything larger than a building that moves but does not fly seems to be called a leviathan.

Do you mean in the junk pile pick? If its the one I'm thinking of, its just a chimera that was heavily converted by a former roommate. I'll try and get a closer pic.
As far as me being the Warboss, I'll take that title. The basic situation is I used to play both Fantasy and 40k. (I have over seven hundred painted models for my skaven army, and around three hundred painted models for my Beasts of Chaos.) However, I've moved to a new city, and all anyone plays is 40k. I've sold most of my other 40k armies, so all that leaves me with inspiration-wise is an insatiable urge to make and paint Orks.

I just got this, and I laughed. I just fought in a six month campaign against Tyranids, culminating in the Apocalypse game that all my army pics come from. chuckle all you want bug-boy, but let me tell you this, it was wholesale slaughter. (unfortunately it was against the Orks, I won only one battle of the six tier ladder campaign. I hope the Tyranids got the runs from eating all those poor Orks.)
Brotheralexos wrote:Oh, youre right it is the junkpile pic I was talking of. I wan to see the conversion, as it looks quite interesting.
I went to go snap a pic, but alas, I found it on the chopping block, not the waiting-to-get-chopped-block. (I know it looks blue, but I just snapped a quick pic without adjusting the color settings on my camera, I assure you its the same purple model. sorry I couldn't get a "before" picture!)
sonofruss wrote:Pox do not destroy that rt landraider.
It's pretty haggard to begin with, Missing most of the external bits. My plan is to do an old-school style conversion on it so I can use it as a Battlewagon for my Blood Axe. I have many, many troops from that time period, along with an actual old Battlewagon for my Goffs. Please know I have much love for old models, I'll do it justice. heres an average unit from my army, all from the Space Ork releases of late eighties/early nineties.
big mek crazygit wrote:i got a better idear with the land raiders. make them looted land raider with land raider stats!
I use Land Raiders as Battlewagons, anything else is a looted vehicle. I just cant bring myself to use LR as looted vehicles, they are too big and Ork players have been using the LR kit to make Battlewagons for a really long time.

Indeed I did . So they would look more like the Bard 'dule , and a bit different from the norm. Shooty fexes , toting a gun in each hand rather than two guns on the same side . Then I had them kind of hunched over like the 'dule too. This meant that they would fall over if I didn't use the scything talons to hold the body up. I cut down the size of the scythes to show then as " vestigial" and not part of the fexes weaponry.

Well My whole army has cost me about 900 dollars so Far. All termies Dread naughts and tact squads are AOBR which i modified( i was picking up spurs for under three dollars for 11 marines and termies for five).
OH why i dont have a Chapter master and Head LIbiran ( its due to the fluff) i try to keep it real. Plus its makes me play with more tech marines ,
chaplins and Just captians.
So far the army is at 8800points, that not incliding up grades, just model count
crap that is alot of plastic too... But its about a year long in the process... If you think my army is impressive , you should see a freind of mind Ultra mairnes that a impressive army. His is bigger then mine or about the same size.

@ big mek crazygit I love the battlefortress, Is it from Jurassic park? It looks like a holding pen for a T-Rex.

Brotheralexos wrote:@ 1hadhq Nice, What are the abreviations that are not highlighted?
The un-highlighted forces and the abbrevations with dakka-support are:
- codex space marines 3rd edition DIY chapter, was "legio draconis" until GW did show something really bad painted with this name... renamed to golden dragons.
- codex space marines 4th edition DIY chapter, crimson swords. Again GW did something similar....
- SA = salamanders.
- IH = Iron hands.
- RG = Raven Guard
- WS = bike army with the white scars IC as counts as captain.
- DA = Dark angels successor ( still no name )
- BT = Black Templars. (codex armageddon + codex BT)
- GK = Grey knights
- DW = Deathwatch killteam
- SW = some wolfies
So nothing as dedicated as others are in this thread.

Okay. I love it when I see armies such as Daemons because of their scarcity within battlereps, stories, and other things. Even their fluff is scarce to come by, and I feel it is nice when people take an interest in them.

Redbeard that is freaking awsome... looks like something youd see out of a book with each faction of chaos and their armies... and do I actually see every Forgeworld AND Ultraforge AND GamesWorkshop greater daemons in there? As well as Daemon Princes from all of those companies? Bravo man... Bravo.. EDIT: Do you have any close ups of the Giant Spined Chaos Beast? And if you have the FW Giant Spawn, do you have close ups of that? I didnt see it in there but I could have missed it... Also, Im not familiar with the Chaos books for 40k but what is the charriot being pulled by juggernaughts supposed to be?
19517
Post by: Brotheralexos
probably, though I think that it would not be too hard to have that in an army.

Brotheralexos wrote:probably, though I think that it would not be too hard to have that in an army.
Youve totally confused me.
I assume it would be quite hard to field 12 (probably more) Greater Daemons and numerous Daemon Princes in a single army.
Although in Redbeard's case it would seem extremely different and quite awsome in my honest opinion.

I don't have him. I really don't like that model.

A herald of khorne in a chariot pulled by a juggernaut. It's a codex selection.

My painted Black Templars, a bit over 7k points and still growing. I've probably got another 1k points in progress, including 2 drop pods, 2 attack bikes, 10 power armored sword brethren, 7 neophytes, a dozen assault marines, and a fourth LRC.

Rather old paintscheme of the Ultras. And lots of bikes.

Those nids look great... and I love how you used that laminate as a city-board surface.
7625
Post by: Alex Kolodotschko
Thanks Fox but it's not a laminate!
It's 6mm MDF 'tile panel'. It has lines routed into it to give the illusion of tiling when painted without the effort.
It comes in 2ftx4ft sheets and I figure that it's pretty neat stuff for urban terrain boards.

Thanks guys, always nice to get a bit of positive feedback.
The titan's base is made from 10-12mm ish MDF. I drew around a 14inch cymbal and cut out the circle with a jigsaw.
I then routed and sanded the edges and textured with artex, hard styrene, rocks, pebbles, various grades of sand etc etc
I'll be adding grass and water effect some time in the future but the titan's paint isn't quite finished yet.
