Not dead yet....

Hi guys. I've got a couple of updates for ya.

KOS #2

I took the time to cut this guy up and socket the major joints and torso to make him easier to detail and ultimately cast. He's actually further along that this but I've gotta sort through all the in progress pics I have before I post most on him. Basically all that's left to do is finalize that hand poses, punch up the anatomy a bit with some light carving work, and smooth sanding the surface.

Pregnant Soulgrinder:

This is coming along nicely as well. I've got the body done, and I'm currently working on the head. Since its the make of break part of the model I'm taking my time with it. In these pictures I chopped the model up in preparation of sculpting male/female connections. I was a necessity for the legs because their pose din not allow me to easily sculpt the feet and shin areas. Ive also gone ahead and started installing the metal sockets for the wiring that will bind her to the walker.

Here is the styrene sheet skeleton for the walker arms. They will be built up with putty and machined the right size and shape. Once the prototype is done I cast of six resin copies for the model. As you can see the legs are sully articulated. I'll be using silicon washers and plastic pins to allow the model to be fully poseable.

More later on today!

Thanks guys! Your continued interest in the project makes it easier to keep focused.

So, I was researching Slaanesh on Google for ideas and saw this:

And immediately recognized it as this WF sketch for a new Fiend of Slaanesh model back in the 6th edition.

Its from the same series of designs as the FW Keeper and the 6th edition Diaz-nettes:

Since, I have the FW Keeper and diaz-nettes I of course simply must have one of these as well. So, say hello to Soul Grinder #3 So, expect more 6 breasted, multi-horned, goodness soon.

Progress to follow!

I have to admit though that although I really like this design. It really doesn't work as a fiend for me. A named daemon sure, fiend no. Having said that I will probably sculpt my own fiend variant in all its sleek 10 breasted "Slave to Darkness" glory.

I have no idea what I'll use them as though, fleshhounds? fiends?

Hmmm, I dunno meng, depends on the final size you choose for them... The way their back legs are hinged and set, I see more "flesh hounds" in them more than anything, but flesh hounds are fiends of Khorne so I think the point is moot. If you want them, make them, play test them as both, and then decide on them. THats the beauty of "counts-as", they are whatever you say they are

Updates!

Okay so the FW KOS is done. She's got a new staff icon to replace the generic CSM Slaanesh icon. She's been sanded and detailed. So its off to the display cabinet until its time to prime and paint her.

Also here's some more progress shots of the pregnant grinder. I'm scratch building the walker/throne out of styrene as we speak, so pics on that soon.

And a couple of shot of one the heralds mounts:

More to follow!

Okay small update:

Legs for the Preggers throne:

These still need some sanding an truing up, before their ready to cast. I'm also thinking about carving some inlaid detail flourishes as well.

And a few pics of her head as it is currently. The upper lip looks that way because thats actually her upper teeth. When dry the lips will partially cover it. The expression I'm going for is exstacy/agony, some there somewhat of a grimace in their as well. The eyes will be closed.

Question does she need horns? Slaanesh is generally horned but I'm not sure, I better get to sketching.

Hey sersi, so with the face, coming from an art backround(8 years of school and all, HS + College) I can maybe give you a few tips on face sculpting on such a small scale.

First, if you want the face to appear female, you must really underplay the jaw, also remember that the bottom jaw is on a hinge, a few things to keep in mind. Second, try to make the brow ridge as subtle as possible, its very easy to make a face look male with a slightly pronounced brow ridge.

just a few ideas, other than that keep it up man, your on a role!!

Post by: Sersi

Yet more progress:

Okay the face/head is much further along now. I'm still resolving the features such as the eyes, nose, and mouth. At this point I'm switching using solely a generic skull for reference and I'm working toward a specific person's face as reference.

The size of the head looks to be correct now, as you can see I had to add material to fill out the back of the skull. Its a common error most people make when either drawing or sculpting the head.

In case anyone wondering the duct tape is holding the legs together while the putty sets.

More soon!

Post by: Sersi

So I've been thinking...

So I was looking through my bits boxes today for some inspiration; and a piece of corrugated hose inspired this. Now the Idea here is in a manner similar to Alien Queen in Aliens, the daemon has a hose attached to her naughty bits that deposits her children/spawn behind the walker as it moves on blasting stuff.

My only fear is that the hose passing through her throne makes is look like a giant toilet! The hose would be attached to her lower body with metal hooks of course, to keep it real. The spawn would be a several of my converted grave ghouls....er...excuse me Painlings!

Too much?

A couple of other ideas:

1. How about making the fingers holding the belly longer and digging bloody rents into the flesh.
2. Someone suggested having engorged veins along the sides of the belly.

Thoughts?

Sersi's Slaaneshi Themed Daemon Army @ 2009/10/08 12:43:48

Post by: Vulkan

Actually I go with both 1 and 2 make it look more pregnant.. <_<;;
Apparently the miracle of giving birth is a wondrous thing to behold.. Either kill that right then and there with this model or enforce it either way it's all good.

Sersi's Slaaneshi Themed Daemon Army @ 2009/10/08 12:48:25

Post by: Tim the Biovore

Yeah, definately add the last two things.

Post by: Ygds

Maybe instead of having the mechanical ovipositer (egg laying thingy) come from the front and hang to one side or divide and hang over both sides. Or could reach over the shoulder and drop down? This is all coming from an amateur, but it does not look like a toilet by the way. The other two ideas are fantastic as well, the more disgusting the better. Also who cares if it does look like a toilet, though it would be nurgly to poop the painlings out, it could be a demonstration of feco-fetish (which is absolutely revolting in my opinion) which is definitely Slaanesh. But maybe you want to keep somewhat family friendly... wait what am I saying, Slaanesh is like a watchful parents nightmare. Go ahead traumatize your opponents.

Sersi's Slaaneshi Themed Daemon Army @ 2009/10/08 17:32:24

Post by: gameandwatch

I honestly feel the hose may be too much, Though definetly an interesting concept, I almost feel that it would be near impossible to not look at it as some sort of toilet, and in that sense feels very nurgly!! I also concour with the two ideas you gave about the digging fingers and veins, which would also push more focus to the belly cannon which is the focal point of the piece.

Think of it like this: " The Cadian gaurdsman had been holding the garrison now for 3 days, with no end to the battle in sight. That is practically normality on Cadia; being the first bastion outside the great eye has its downsides. But, at the dawn of the next day something hit us we had never seen before. A faint ethereal 'sigh' that could be heard by all proceeded what many of my fellow gaurdsman thought to be angels, angels coming to save us once and for all. But these were no angels... The deception had worked, half of the front line was whipped out by lightning fast talons before we even knew what was happening. Our commisar executed a fleeing coward nearby to rally us for a counter attack, but then, just as we had rallied and began our assault, a monstrous form flashed into view. Through the smoke all we could see was some sort of enemy walker, but what we heard... It sounded like a pregnant woman being ripped apart by her unborn, and enjoying it at the same time! Horrified by what we had heard, half the platoon was annihilated in an instant by what I can only describe as a contraction from the horrid mechanation, and then it came into view. My emporer, we can't fight this..." Last words written by the coward traitor Valerez before summary execution by his commanding commisar.

The fingers clawing into the skin sounds good. Clawing at oneself in pain and ecstasy is probable and fitting.

The veins? Eh, not so much. I'm not sure they would add anything to the model, just distract from the interesting parts. Going by your other figures, there will be more than enough detail as it is, a smooth expanse of belly flesh would compliment the more intricate sections.

Sersi's Slaaneshi Themed Daemon Army @ 2009/10/09 12:59:26

Oh this thread... I love it! And I love your creativity adn skills Sersi.

Don't fear the vagina, revel in the act of creation. Have the motherfigure lying back in pleasure on a dias to give birth to her young ones right into the face of her enemies. Let her vulva tell them "Chaos is constantly reborn, behold my act of creation that is at the same time the source of your destruction".

In our western society there is very often a deep gulf between the two female archetypes "the mother" and "the whore". I think that this model has the potential to bridge that gap/break that (miss)conception, and by that cause huge amounts of discord on a very personal level among lots of gamers by forcing them to remember that they once had a vulva around their throats. All in all, a very slaneesh thing to do.

This new "tube" idea seems as though it might steal focus from the front of the creature to its back.

The idea of a daemon engine birthing daemons (as cool and twisted as it sounds) doesn't really fit the concept of Soul Grinder, it seems to me.

Since it's a Grinder, it seems to me the thing needs to convey the idea of a maw cannon -- something I thought your original design concept got across really effectively. (I'm thinking here of the drawing depitcting the creature cradling her belly; that belly protruding a stubby, mechanical-looking aperture that suggested either a cannon barrel or a door-lock or a weird portal of some kind.)

Just my two bitz. Whatever direction you decide to take, I know we're in good hands (and by that, I mean the hands of an utterly demented genius surgeon.)

Now that you've said that I can't help but see a toilet...

Post by: Sersi

Well the consensus is that the toilet demon laying chair was too much and in the wrong direction. After reading all the reasons why I can only agree. So I'm moving away from the birthing chair idea and going with something more along the lines of Slaaneshi-stylized Buddha.

It seems that most everyone liked the hands digging into the belly and to some degree the incorporation of pulsing veins on the belly. To a certain extent I think that and the fact that "OMG its a pregnant daemon!" factor might be enough to carry the model. I'm also thinking about returning her to the original reclining position, as well.

As a side note I found this on Deviantart today:

Damn...that would have been a easy conversion to do. Although it seems more C:CSM than C:CD. I probably will do a version of it when I get back to my EC army.

Head update:

Well I'd say another half hour or so and this will be done. I still need to fatten up the lower lip, enlarge the nostrils, apply a slight bit of rhinoplasty, a little general sanding and done.

Remaining decisions:

1. what to do about the tongue: in, sticking out, long or normal?
2. sculpted eyebrows or painted?
3. full lip or thin lips.
4. here's the current idea for the horns.

So, opinions, etc?

That head is hideous (in a good way) .

I'd say give her a really long tongue so that it looks like she might be able to lick herself in... places, maybe have it with a row of studs all the way down or something. Those horns look cool. For lips, whichever is easiest really - the sculpt looks great, and if I were you I'd be worried about lips messing it up. As for the eyebrows, I think painting them on would probably be the best idea.

I'm soooo, stealing this for my army fluff. Thank you kind sir!

Mellon:

I don't know what to say to all that, but some small dark voice in my mind seems to like where your going. How about a nice painful looking chastity belt as a compromise?

I have to agree with you the original idea was simple and to the point.

Sol Invictus:

See that what broke the concept for me. Having mad that linkage in my mind it was always going to be her taking a dump. Not the image I'm going for at all.

Sidstyler:

Oh, I plan to keep the veining very subtle if I sculpt them at all. Painting them on seems the way to go.

Tim the Biovore:

Yeah, but I still want one. It's a great concept. I might just order a defiler to make one. I bet it would do well as a coversion kit with Slaaneshi armies...hmmm...

CadianXV:

I'm not really in love with them either. What would you do instead? Maybe a crown like in my Avatar?

get to the chopper!

Best screen name ever! But shouldn't be "get to the choppa!"? A studded tounge, hmmm...we'll see about that.

I think leaving the lower jaw is fine. The transition from lower lip to jaw seems a touch off. If you go the tongue route, I'd make it forked, leave one side of the mouth and maybe curve around the cheekbone and around the eyebrow.

You've got a strong diagonal movement going with the models leaning back position. For me the horns currently look stuck on as an afterthought. Now if the horns were rotated 90degrees and straightened out a little, it would complement the overall model far more.

I'm just nit-picking here; it's still a brilliant model, and you are truly talented!

Hope that helps.

I have to say that the horns art up to your usual great work. Prehapse if they had more of a striking angle, almost like those on a bull, but forward-pointing.

i dont likethe idea of baldy horn headd. i think the grinder would be better if it had really long hair flowing ddown behind it. also, i agree about the long tongue, but hav it hangin down between her (searches for appropriate word) breasts and hangs down onto her stomach

the hanging tongue would be awsome especially if it were holding open part of her stomach or something. I would personally go withno more then 3 piercings. Otherwise it almost feels over the top. What could also be ool though maybe a little much would be to have a demonetter crawling over her side to hold open the other stonach liner for the cannon to come out.

"the hulking monstrosity loomed out of the darkness, its dark eyes glinting in a foul mix of pain and exstasy. the pregnant demon-mother lay, fused to a bed oof metal legs and talons. its hair swayed as it rolled its head from side to side, its loling tounge running down its chest. it held its swollen belly between its hands as it screamed out its pleasure. a huge cut ran its way down her belly, slashing it open to reveal a barbed metal contraption that oozed a clear liquid that dripped down onto the ground behind it. the huge rent was held open to reveal the cannon by two lengths of wire, held by a demonette atendant, and by the demons tongue."

Basically, for the things belly cannon, have the slashed skin of her belly stretched to either side, one side held by a demonnette atendant, and have the other pulled back by the creatures mega long tongue. out of this slash should protrude the maw (or belly?) cannon, either mechanical, or organic.

That voice tells you the truth. It is the only thing you need to listen to, they will tell you everything you need to know. Everyone else is lying to you.

Chastity isn't quite the first and foremost command of slaanesh, but using the chastity belt as a seducing tool is right up his/her alley (no pun intended). Compare to how nuns can be a powerful fetish, we always wants whats hard to get. Make a big padlock or keyhole clearly visible and have a daemonette attendant carry the golden key on a red satin pillow, offering it to the bravest of the heroes facing her. The belt also carries with it a lower risk of getting banned from any gaming club that minors frequent :-)

Considering the rest of the things in this army, I'm thinking adding a chastity belt may make you less likely to get banned.

Granted, I'm not sure that counts for much.

I like the horns but I would add some hair as well. Never been to fond of the baldies.

Also definately should have the tongue sticking out. Long but not uber long just enough to give people ideas about what the tongue can do...

either way, i thought it looking bald looks slightly disturbing on its own, the horns seemed a bit weird.

a really long tongue might look weird though.

but its your scary multilimbed pregnant daemon from hell.

but, its incidently the best model i have ever seen. undeniably origonal and so damn creepy

keep up the good work

Hiya!

Update time.

So, I've made some revisions on the Pregnant Soul Grinder who's working name is now "Carna", after the roman goddess of flesh, from whose name the word carnal; as in "carnal knowledge" was derived. Until of unless someone thinks up a better one for me.

Changes:

- decided to go with a short tongue in the mouth as it looked best.
- cut off and re-sculpted a smaller chin and re-sculpted the teeth.
- changed the pose of the praying hand to simply having the fingers interlaced.

Likely Changes:

- for the horns I'm going with some very small subtle horns.
- long hair tied to a ring on the dais, to restrain the movement of her head.
- the supporting hands will be shackled to the dais.
- subtle veining on the abdomen.
- claw marks from the hands holding the abdomen.

I need feedback on:

- inspired by the "6" wings of Seraphim, she will now have 3 pairs of wings to tie her into the them of the other models.
- idea for the dais that she resting on. Its the only thing holding me up now.

Well enough talk...on with the pictures:

Close ups of the head and face:

Torso:

Full Body:

Walker Legs:

These are done they just need to be cast up. There fully articulated, so I should be able to get some great dynamic when it comes time to pose the walker.

As always more later!

hrmmm truthfully since your going with a fall of the eldar type style with this you could have her resting at the edge of a bed with demonettes laying in each others embrace behind her. Might be a little much but could fit in the whole style of it all. Or you could go with a palaquin style and have her on a luch bed being carried under by slaves of sorts to the pleasure god.

I honestly think that this model should be as close to her original form as possible, maybe sculpt on a helmet like your avatar(I like that idea!) and the wings really feel like they should be part of her throne, not actually a part of her. Just an idea...

Jebus that looks good! The only things I might add are small fangs or enlongated canines, and then perhaps a tiara with tentacle hair.

Also, I am not sure that I dig the wings. I think they take away from the more terrestrial nature of the model, with its spider legs and many arms and such. 6 limbs, 6 robot legs and 6 wings... just seems like it is gilding the lily a bit for no thematic gain. (Angels don't have multiple arms etc.) I might be completely wrong, but they just look really out of place to me.

First things first, good job and thanks for losing the curly horns!

Hmmmm....

Not sure about the wings as they are. If you want them Sersi then IMO you should have one, larger pair. They should also be heavily damaged and chained to the throne. Sort of a captured-daemon-forcibly-made-pregnant kind of thing.

I also agree with wherkind: some sharp teeth might be fun! (but if youre done sculpting the head then don't bother, I bet it's a pain to re-make!)

Anywhoo, keep up the good work, and any chance of a whole army shot in the near future?

Just spent some time reading this blog, and I must say, I love it! (sort of hard to read at work though!)

Here is an idea for the prego-grinder. You do not currently have the typical Slanneshi crab claws on the model.

Suggestion is to change the hands holding the belly to small, delicate versions of these claws, and have them pinching the flesh of the belly. I think that will add in the crab claw look in a way that also adds to the... flavor of the model.

Keep up the good work, and appreciate your posting this!

Wings are win.

I agree with the small, subtle horns. Your model is daemonic enough, i dont think you need to worry about people thinking she aint that evil.

Maybe have talons/nails on each hand 'piercing' but not pulling at the skin...

Gold all round tho.

Well the wing idea seems to have gone over like a lead balloon. Hmmm...Maybe this image will sell you on them. Or not...

Not my work by the way, but cool none the less. Also pretty similar to what I'm trying to do here, well except for her having an alligator for her crotch!

I'll shelve the wing Idea for now, though. The following is in the cards for today.

Carna:

1. some sort of crown or tiara.
2. small subtle horns.
3. normal hair hanging down to the dais.
4. shackles on the supporting hands and feet

Spiderwalker:[u]

1. a cushion dais with lounging daemonettes sounds interesting.
2. the legs are looking pretty plain, I will probably scribe in some details to break up the surface.

Anybody still like the idea of it being a corrupted Eldar Farseer? Or is her just being a daemon bad/good enough?

Oh I also started on a na alternate head for the Male KOS. Similar to this:

I'll be altering the body after casting to add the bony spines and spikes, etc.

Keeps the comments and suggestions coming, the certainly help.

Alright I can definetely grasp the idea with the wings more with that image. I would think it would be more interesting to grasp it as a corrupted farseer. The Idea of a super psycher turned demon weapon is just too good to pass up in my eyes. As well, I think her headress or scribes on her body when painted maybe the way to determine that shee was a farseer. Possibly look at some farseer helmets and get some ideas from there, runes are always a good indication too.

Ok, that picture helps, but only to cement why I dislike the wings.

In the drawing, the ... let's say "Prego Daemon" (PD) is largely upright, sort of sitting straight up. This allows the wings to stretch back behind it. Your PD, however, is reclining very far, with her back only a few degrees off horizontal. This crams the wings into a smaller area, which makes that area very busy it seems. It also makes it look rather awkward and uncomfortable. Not so much in the "Pregnant daemon with a gun through her belly" kind of uncomfortable, but more of the "no one with wings wound lie in that sort of position" sort of way. Kind of like how the only time you see a bird lying on it's back is after it has flown into a window...

I could agree with seeing the wings mutilated in some way and chaining her to the conveyance though. Possibly cooler would be to have 6 ragged scars where her wings were ripped off, with hooked chains sunk into the flesh and holding her down to the spider walker thing. Sort of like her reclining is forced by chains pulling on hooks through her flesh, as opposed to her own doing. If you have ever seen those people with so many piercings they can suspend themselves from the ceiling with them, that sort of conveys the idea.

I Like the wings. She reminds me of an Ophanim. One of Ezekiel's Cheribum. It's a very emotive piece that seems to be in motion without moving. It also somehow manages to not seem too "busy" which is the failing of many GW sculpts. I look forward to seeing her development into a true dark mother.

I was originally going to go with larger wings. The Princesses for instance have wings scaled large enough to be psuedo-fuctional. Since she's not meant to fly, I went with pigmy wings.

I'm going with the Eldar Farseer idea. It will tie in nicely with the "Eldar Fall" themed basing. One idea I had was having a cracked soul stone fused to her sternum. I'm thinking her throne should be constructed of corrupted Wraithbone.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So, today's ideas:

I'm thinking of sculpting a raised Slaanesh symbol around the inset barrel of the maw cannon; like so:

Here's a better picture of the symbol.

So, I've decided to go with corrupted Farseer concept. Which lead me to a few ideas, and questions:

1. She'll have a corrupted soul stone fused to her sternum.
2. The walker will be festooned with captured soul stones that will be use to power the walker, in a complete perversion of Eldar technology.
3. I intend to paint her with Eldar symbols that have been slashed or defaced with scars of brands.

What else would work to sell the model as a Farseer?

Basing:

I plan on using the fall of Eldar as the theme for my basing: ie shattered statues, symbols inlaid into marble floors, and collapsed wraith bone structures. I'm thinking the plaster would be the most realistic way to create the originals; although I would most likely cast them in resin later for strength at the very least. So I've been making little styrene stamps to press eldar-ish symbols into wet plaster that I'll texture. When its dry I'll break the sheet up into tiles for the marble bases.

Does anyone have a reference image for what an infinity gate or world spirit are supposed to look like?

Ok, well I believe a few things will sell the farseer idea, a helmet that looks like a farseer helmet if you give her one, or runes of sometype possibly even some kind of rune armor, or former rune armor.

As far as the infinity gates go, Idk if you ever played dawn of war, dark crusade, but taking the eldar capitol you capture infinity gates, or webway gates. just search "eldar webway gates" and you should find a pic.

With regards the Necromunda gang Commodore Perry mentioned, I suspect he may well mean the Goliaths, though finding decent pictures is proving trickier than I thought. Hi All! I nearly done with the big KOS...tonight for sure...maybe....

Anyway here's some progress:

Full body stuff first.

For the last two days I've been smoothing the model and correcting minor defects in the surface. As well as correcting some basic anatomy and silhouette issues. That's all pretty much done now, and while not all that noticeable in the pictures to follow they would be really obvious if it was sitting on your desk. I still have to clean up the head, but I been focused on getting the teeth and tongue in place for that part.

Parts Breakdown:

Here's the model broken down into its components, for easy casting. So, you got: the main body, 2x arms, 2x clawed arms, head, and tongue. Their will also be a separate piece for the loincloth. Other parts that I haven't decided on yet may include: a cod piece, second head, alternate hands, and sword.

Head Close Ups:

Two thing to note here: one the tongue is a completely separate piece, want to GS as longer one, no problem. Second the teeth are metal, clipped stick pins actually. I'm not sure how well they'll cast yet, but we'll see how it goes.

Well that's it for today. I've been trying to keep this model far enough away from GW IP as possible while trying to keep the feel of the original art. Let me know how I'm doing? I say remove the crab claws and he's pretty generic looking.

Questions:

1. Should the claws be toothed like the current GW KOS?
2. Does he need ears?
3. Does he need eyes?
4. Does he need anything else?

More Soon!

I don't think the claws should be toothed, he doesn't need ears, he does need eyes, and maybe add a loincloth.

2. nope

4. some random bits of leather and piercings

I'd say he/she/it needs to incorporate a stronger hedonistic theme. I'd suggest riddling it with piercings, like the Ogres from WFB.

Other than that, it looks really really good Sersi! Whats next on your infernal list?

Still deciding on the pregnant soul grinders head, etc. How about something like this?

Perhaps a Slaanesh symbol branded into her forehead.

And now for something completely different!

Instruments!

Not really that useful in 40k, but useful in War hammer Fantasy. Anyway I already decided to not use that abomination that comes in the Daemonette box. So, I've decide to go with a combination of Dark Elf horns and custom flutes. I choose flutes for the obvious innuendo connotations. A couple of pose ideas:

and this:

Well not exactly not like the that, imagine a hot daemonette instead.

With the male KOS, the claws don't need teeth, but they need something else. As for the preg-grinder, it would look nice with the symbol, but don't follow that head too much as it looks Japanese (not being rascist) and could result in problems like people being offended. 'I am not a sexy pregnant daemon!", well that sounds funny but you'd be suprised at the sensitivity of some people.

Sersi,
Regarding KOS 1) Toothed claws aren't necessary 2) Neither are ears 3) Eyes would be good 4) Maybe a loincloth as was suggested. Also a top hat.

That KOS is really coming along man, it's looking great already. I think no ears or toothy claws, and a loin cloth would be good as there's a few of them in your army already.

And I think that head would look good on the preggo-grinder as well.

Again this thread and your sculpting is just simply amazing. Thanks very much for sharing this with all of us.

Hey guys!

A small update for you, some very WIP Gorgons "Counts as Horrors". I'm doing 12 - 24 of these.

I still have to sculpt some new upper arms on most of them. Their hands and forearms are bits from grave ghouls box set, and lots of hair spray, and 1980's style big hair.

I was originally going to do snake hair or large dreadlocks like the FW KOS. I still may, but its so easy to just use these heads. think glowing hands and eyes with perhaps some sculpted flames in a couple of hands will sell the concept.

More Later!

Sersi's Slaaneshi Themed Daemon Army @ 2009/10/22 11:46:36

Post by: walker90234

do snake hair for th champion, and maybe one or two snakes just popping out of the others (add snake faces to the ends of a few strands) and paint them so, but dont completley remodel the hair o allof em and i think ur set. maybe make three seperated types of snake head and just cast it?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
also, i think it would be a great idea to cast nd sell th KOS count as. i would make it a little bit more like the pic from GW to make it recognisable coz i dont thik it would breach copywrite. about the flute, what do you mean by innuendo connotations?

I don't think it would be a good idea to go any closer to the GW design. Who wants to get a C&D from GW's corporate lawyers? As far as the "innuendo" goes. I can think of two contexts. "This one time at band camp..." and the more obvious skin flute context.

Actually, the first thing I thought when I saw those girls was "Jazz Hands!" You need the daemon instrument to be a saxaphone, or a clarinette.

Other than the fact they look like drunken broadway girls/guys, which may be the intent, they look pretty decent. Just not sure about the hands...

Whoa...has it been that long? Oy! I got caught up in work and some commision work, but we are now back on track...well for a while anyway.

Anywho here's an update. Lots of stuff going on here.

Pregnant Soulgrinder:

Only a little progress on the Pregnant grinder. As I ran into difficulties, with the original walker concept. The freaking walker was to freaking big.

I some how forgot that just the pregnant Farseer model was already the size of the GW grinder! Duh! So, the throne/walker/birthing-chair has to fit within the the dimension of the existing model.

So, here's what I've come up with so far:

Just drilled out the belly gun. I've also don a lot of clean up, detailing and sanding.

After researching some how shall we say less than wholesome sites. I decided to go with a having the main arms suspended in mid-air by a shackle-bar restraint. I leave the hands as they are because they would be under tension and spasmodic anyway, so it kind fits.

Right other stuff...

Gorgon Squad:

Tormentor Squad:

A couple of size comparisons:

Slayer Squad:

With their herald leading.

I also started work on my 1st Herald:

Other assorted WIPS:

Later!

Have you thought about throwing some shattered GS Farseer armor/robes onto the Soul Grinder? It could be fused to her skin or something, like CSM armor.

Another idea I was tossing around was making her head still encased in the helmet, but the helmet sort of became part of her head and had split apart to make a sort of mouth or something, but seeing how much progress you've made it might be too late for something like that.

I really like all of your custom models, they're fantastic.

Yes, the Tormentors / Painlings count as Plaguebearers. They'll be converted quite a bit I've on corrected their worst birth defects so far. Now they can walk upright. Plaguebearers won't work with my vision for them. There supposed to be evil imps/munchkin/umpalupa type things. I want them puny and un-impressive. A Guardsman should laugh them off until one shrugs off a dozen lasgun shots.

They will definietly be getting: piercings, whips, chains, shackles, and other implements of torture to use on their victums.

I'll say, people are polarized by it they either hate it or love it, no in between really. But the majority seem to love it! Good summary of the concept by the way. Its about as Slaaneshi I can imagine.

cadian512:

i love the project and the models but i really dont understand the pregnant sulgrinder.

I think this bit from Gameandwatch sums up the concept pretty well.

" The Cadian gaurdsman had been holding the garrison now for 3 days, with no end to the battle in sight. My Emperor, we can't fight this..." Last words written by the coward and traitor Valerez before summary execution by his commanding commisar.

Well that and...because I could!

Well, the galleries not letting me upload at the moment, no idea why. So, I'm rolling with photobucket this morning... Yeah, I know...I know... My hope is that I don't burn through a month of bandwidth in a day this time.

Keeper of Secrets:

This guy is done except for some minor work on the clavicles and scapula's to get those looking more anatomically correct.

Changes:

1. I lengthened the left leg and altered to pose slightly to correct the proportions.
2. He's got a loincloth now, is fully removable (man I love Aves Sculpt).
3. There's a Slaanesh button on the loincloth that I just press molded off the WF Slaanesh champions banner pole.
4. Yes, there is a nasty crack in the right leg, that needs to be filled.
5. He has re-sculpted neck anatomy.
6. Constructed a new scimitar like sword of styrene and Aves sculpt.
7. Re-sculpted the hand to hold the sword.

The whole model will breakdown into the following parts: Head, torso & legs, clawed arms, arms, sword, tounge, loincloth, icon of Slaanesh.

And now without further ado the nearly, almost finished, 99.99% done Keeper of Secrets:

Detail on the loincloth:

Yeah!

Oh, and here are all the Big guys minus the Grinders together:

Soulgrinder:

Only a minor update on her today.

Changes:

1. Added shackles to the main arms and legs along with some copper wire loops. The will be further detailed with clasps and rivets soon. Ultimatly these will be bound together with modeling chain.
2. Minor anatomy work tho the lower back and buttocks.
3. I also enlarged the praying hands to match the supporting hands.

To Come:

1. Clawed hands digging into the belly.
2. Veins on the belly.
3. Pointed Ears.
4. Detailing the Throne.

The model will breakdown into the following parts: Head & torso, legs, arms, and throne.

Anyway here she is the Pregnant Soulgrinder:

Daemonettes:

I'm doing these to spruce up the rank and file daemonettes with some variety. These are all based off casts of a daemonette model that I reposed and re-sculpted to be similar to the old daemonette models.

The model on the far left that groping one breast and holding a bolt pistol? She's my future counts as Changeling model. She
'll be getting a Commisar's cap and jacket eventually.

Notice the daemonette with single wing? She's inspired by Sephiroth, I figure she's a demoted Fury, that pissed off her KOS resulting in a ruined wing.

My current Display Case:

I have officially run out of space for this army. So, I'm going to Ikea to pick up another one.

Oh and I'm now caught up on work and all my commission... So I pledge to actually paint something this weekend!

More Later!

Lastly some asked for a army group shot. I promise I'll get that up tomorrow as I want to clean my display case. Everyone that stops by the house gawks at it and then puts their grubby little hands on the glass .

I'll be finishing up a few issure with the Keeper tonight, but I probably won't get around to molding him until next week, I've got to order some more silicon rubber. The stuff I got right now is the expense transparent kind, great for minis when your cutting open the mold. But the Keepers a big model so I wouldn't want to do a cut mold on it, as it'd waste allot of expensive material. So, I'll have to make a matrix mold. Which, time consuming and requires the mixing plaster and silicon, along with building a complicated a clay bed and mold box, and takes at mnimum two days. Definitely not for the sqimish. Since, I'm planning it now I might as well make a tutorial out of the process.

But, to answer your question about a week or so.

Duude. EPIC!!!! Long time lurker of this thread, first-time poster (i think, might have done 1 already but who cares!).

I've just got to say how much i admire your work, the concepts are amazing and, unlike so many projects similar to this, you have the skills to do the concepts justice. Bravo! This is why i didn't do a slaanesh section for my Chaos Daemons, GWs concepts are average at best and i don't have the time or effort required to make slaanesh daemons look good. Clearly you do. I would probably be interested were you to sell casts of the KoS and/or the daemonettes.

Okay, so I'm trying to get the pregger's done tonight, and needed to get the legs for the throne done. I was going to go with mechanical looking styrene legs...until I realized that the legs on the other grinder were just the right size.

Sometimes in the course of making something cool, sacrifices must be made... So, reluctantly took out my dremel and chopped my six-legged grinder up for spare parts.

Now, don't feel to bad as she just wasn't working out: to symmetrical, to static, to boring, not sexy enough. Exhibit A:

Anyway here's the idea I'm going with now:

I'm thinking of making the chain legs mechanical, say like hedonism bot from Futurama. Someone suggested it before, but I don't recall who. Comments and suggestions are as always welcome.

I found this thread today and I have to say I'm glad that I took so long to find it as I didn't have to wait to see new updates on your progress. I was glued to this thread for 4 hours! Your work is absolutely amazing, my favorites are the male KoS and the Pregger Grinder.

I agree with some of the posters that the Pregger Grinder has too much skin. Having the legs mech/biomech would be much better IMO. In your previous posts you mentioned adding crab claws to some of the legs, this would also help the model a great deal. Perhaps just the 2 front legs as claws instead.

I love the Demon Princesses, incredibly dynamic flowing poses but I can tell you've been holding off on doing all of their faces. gameandwatch has given you some great advice for more feminine features. The faces need to look a bit more demonic. You work miracles using a point of reference so I say just find pictures of female faces you want to use and have at it!

This thread has been an amazing show of skill and a great tutorial to boot! I have to admit I'm not really a follower of Chaos and if I was I would pledge to Nurgle, but this thread has allured me. Please keep up the great work and happy holidays!

Daemon Princesses:

I re-sculpting heads and some details on these. The goal being to have one done and molded and cast for sale by this weekend. Here's some progress:

I'm giving her an open mouth, and re-sculpting the features, especially the eyes; which were quite poor.

Color Scheme:

Oh and I tested out a color scheme...and not there not done but here a peak.

I Also started back working on some true scaled Emperors Children:

More pic to night. I plan on documenting the entire molding process. I'm using a new crystal clear silicon rubber and have some tips on how to use it on miniatures.

WOO! First Migsula returns, now you are back!? Great week for modeling justice!

Can't wait to see how these come out. I will probably have to buy some just on lusty principle, and figure what to do with them later.

I'd add yourself to that list too Wehr, a good week for modeling indeed

Great to have you back Sersi. While that particular princess isn't my favorite of your harem, she's still rocking and owning one to mess around with (...) could be quite cool indeed. Also, your re-boobed demonettes with paint have me thinking about revisiting that plastic kit ... though it looks like you went with corsair arms to give them some hands? Good call, crabby claws are only so sexy

Thanks Guys! Its good to be back.

So, updates:

Soulgrinder:

- Lots of re-sculpting going on on this one.

Here's the bottom of the throne:

- I decided to revered the direction of the chair as it looked sexier and allowed for the preggers' hands to rest on the platform, rather than overhang the edge.
- The legs will grow more or less techno-organically out of the bottom of the seat.
- I'm considered adding some two more deformed/shriveled legs to the front pair to complete the butt/crotch area there. They would be folded under the chair and only really visible on closer inspection. The idea creeped out several co-workers, so I think is a good one.

Daemon Princess #1:

Wings:

- I took a dremel and files to these to remove some how shall we save...less than perfect detailing. Something like a 2/3 of the feather details will be re-sculpted.

The head:

Admittedly, she's looking a bit rough at the moment. But I'm going back to establish the bony anatomy first.

- She won't look nearly as happy or fugly when done...I hope...

More Later!

Looking sweet man, keep up the good work.

Your work has inspired to go Chaos Undivided as opposed to a pure Khornate army

Wrong end, take a good long look at the tips of the legs, then, look down.

Are you talking about the feet?

No, the legs don't end in dongs... I don't think so anyway.

For a second I was thinking it was one of those "When You See It, You Will Defecate Building Materials" things. I hate those.

Wrong place for his mind, methinks. The gutter might be a somewhat better place?

Well if it's making him see phalluses, then Closet makes sense.

At the same time, Phallic thoughts are still dirty, so Gutter would also be appropriate (Or... Inappropriate... Whatever )

So... Guttercloset?

There will be no schlongs in this army.......though there will be other bits and pieces.

Okay I got some work done...I was lazy for a few days, its been like 6 months since I worked less than 80 hours a week...ugh!

So anyway stuff!

Soulgrinder:

First the Throne:

I'm still working on this. I'll post up some concept sketches tonight, to show my thinking on this. Yes, those are what you think they are. Fear not...they're will be removable loincloths and chains to cover said naughty bits. Plus on the table top you can't see them without looking real close.

Occupant:

I'm for the most part done with the Pregger. I do need to finish a few things:

1. The belly gun needs something. Perhaps a belly ring or other peircing? Should the barrell be most Eldar like? Ideas would be helpful.

2. I'm pretty proud with how the hand have turned out, they're pretty expressive now, and scaled correctly....yeah!

3. I still don't know what to do with the head though. I'm been thinking of some sort of crown. Again, please help!

Together:

Here is the thing assembled for the most part. The foot print is avtually slightly smaller that the GW model.

Moving on...

Daemon Princess #1:

Head:

I'm still working on this. I need to finish the teeth detailing and tounge, before adding the lips and filling out the cheeks. Then on to the smoothing and blending the features together and finally carving in micro-detail like: eye lids, nostrils, etc. Hopefully this will be done tonight.

Body:

Her body and wings are done except for the following:

1. I still need to carve in some daemonic script on the arm and leg bands. I'm not sure if the leg armor needs any aditional detailing. May be a raised outer edge or something. Ideas would definitely be appreciated here.

2. I have to fill in the slanneshi symbols on the leg etc.

3. Drill out the cut point and re-sculpt the transitions to hide where the parts will be glued back together.

4. Sanding and polishing the model to get that daemonic flesh silky smooth. This will probably be the most time consuming and least fun part.

More Later!

good stuff good stuff

I'm thinking inside it, have eyes with LED's(OMG SCARY FETUS). Because everyone knows this army is totally boring without it.

2. I'm pretty proud with how the hand have turned out, they're pretty expressive now, and scaled correctly....yeah!

yeah, good job

3. I still don't know what to do with the head though. I'm been thinking of some sort of crown. Again, please help!

give her a head wrap. Like a very thin cloth type idea that you sculpt to be as tightly or loosely wrapped as you want and the right amount of new/tattered. And could paint whatever on it.

I dig the idea of a crown, with some tentacles or something as hair draping down. Something that, if taken by itself, might look fairly regal and elegant, to counter point the blasphemy attached to it, and thus improve the quality of said blasphemy.

Sersi, Id say the only thing that the belly gun needs is either an internal element, as in a tongue or something within it, or simply needs to look more like a, for lack of a better way to describe it, very worn vagina, wrinkles, tear marks, a few rolls of skin maybe, because I imagine every time she uses it, her stomach greatly expands in order produce a burst to release, and if it is constantly expanding and contracting, the skin will show it.

Other than that I say leave it alone, as paint will add a great deal to that model...

I thought the hole was her naval, not her reproductive organ proper. Unless my wife has REALLY bizarre anatomy, that hole is way too high to be her (insert awful euphamism here).

I might suggest a little bit of a barrel or something on the belly, just to reinforce that it is infact the muzzle of a shooting weapon and not just the result of wierd fetish play. I don't really know how to accomplish this, but something to reinforce either "gun" or "portal to unhappy place" should do the trick.

This army should come with a 18+ certificate. I hope you don't game with it around kids. Bet you could really give a few kids some weird complexes!

Hell, I'm 23 and I think I've caught an STD and developed Vaginophobia from following this plog.

Maybe the barrel could be a baby's mouth wide open?

Like the baby's head torn from the womb, and its mouth is the barrel?

second that idea

Oh and if you did go with the baby idea, nothing would look mor disturbing than if a pair of tiny chubby baby arms were holding the gun protuding from the babies mouth....kinda gives me the creeps thinking about it actually.

instead of a crown in a conventional kind of way, why not have horns sprouting from around her head, to resemble a crown, whilst still retaining that slaaneshy sickness we've come to know and love
