"Milord," began the communications officer, "Lord Darkhound and his band of Red Corsairs request our presence in the Gamma Theater."

"His reasoning?" inquired the venerable Astartes, his fingers tapping at the railing.

"He wishes to prepare for an assault on the Imperial Guard."

"Very well. Send the message, the Night Lords answer his call."

Farseer Danu Smirked at the folly of the mon-kiegh. She did not need her powers of precognition to see such an attack would come. Many centuries of life has taught the Eldar that the mon-kiegh do not have the discipline to resist Chaos.

Now Danu's divinative abilities had shown that the new and very unknown leader of the Cadians was nothing more than a shadow puppet of the Nightlords general. The path shown to her was one that had shown the necessity for the Biel-Tan people be in position to be attacked in order to reveal this alliance. Danu chuckled at the thought of what was going to happen when the Orks realized that they were being set up.

Extending her consciousness out through the Craftworlds infinity circiut she calmly thought, "Lugh, you may begin". Immediately the fleet sprang into action.

Biel-Tan Attacks the Cadians(1), moves to Epsilon and reinforces (1).

High Lord Nicholai grated his teeth. If the Biel-Tan seer spoke true, then Cadia was lost to Chaos, and with it, all hope of holding the Eye of Terror. He watched through the broken windows of the Bastonne Cathedral as the drop ships sped away into orbit.

"Milord?" Ivan Petrik, his aide-de-campe, approached him. "The shuttle is ready. We await only your word."

Nicholai was lost in thought. For so many millenia the Cadians had struggled against the denziens of Chaos. Years of blood and toil and a never ceasing struggle. So many accolades, honours, yet in so short a time it meant nothing. What did it matter if Cadia had struggle against Chaos for thousands of years? Honours meant nothing if they had fallen now.

"Milord?" Ivan's voice shook him out of his trance.

He stood, wrapping his cloak around him and made his way across the hall. "Let us go, Ivan." He paused at the gates, giving statue of St. Vincent one last glance. "There is nothing left for us here."

Vostroya moves to Epsilion. Here they stand, here they die.

OOC: EF I doubt its the entirety of Cadia, just the one Regiment that has fallen. Like how I'm not the entirety of the Night Lords, and how I mentioned killing the Saim-Hann strike force.

With no word yet received from the Red Corsairs and the Ulthwe having fled the Eye of Terror the Captain was growing impatient, the Sorcerer had spoken of Armageddon, so to there they would go. Perhaps the Orks would have better luck hunting the Eldar.

Just as you are the only representative of the Night Lords, therefore you represent the entirety of the Night Lords. Each player does NOT represent all of his faction. Saim Hann is not eradicated from the universe. It's craftworld is not lost in flames. Each player commands a regiment (or its equivalent) of the choosen sub-faction. Therefore, EF commands the XXth Vostroyans or whatever. I didn't want four different numbered regiments of Death Korps in one game, however, so I limited the faction choices more broadly.

Shamanos kicked a corpse across the bridge.
"How can you be dead!." He roared in frustration. The explosion had been minimal, surely the mortals should have survived it.
"Weaklings!"
In moments new mortals manned the consoles. Their overseer cracked his whip at a ditherer before bowing to Shamanos.
One of the new crew spoke, his predecessor in a crumpled heap at his feet "E-E-Eldar fleet... Belltan.. has retreated to the Eye. What are your orders Lord?"
The Slaughter Lord considered this. His hatred and rage demanded to attack, but the eldar vermin had allied with the cockroaches, together they waited in the Eye, hoping that in his blood lust he would follow them and be crippled.
"We will wait." He decided.

"Milord!" Ivan brushed passed those on duty in the command center. "The Eldar Xenos have sent word. They will join us, but they have enemies outside of the system to deal with first. They should arrive in roughly two to three cycles."

Nicholai nodded. "Good. They will be welcome." The bunker shook as a missile struck somewhere above. Either a crude ork projectile or the sleeker, but no less devious, weapons that the heretics wielded. Nicholai hoped the Eldar held to their word. This was a battle that he was beggining to doubt the Vostroyans could win on their own.

Despite its immense size, the black-hulled Void Stalker Tear of Isha glided nimbly away from the listing wrecks of the enemy fleet. Warp-drunk mon'keigh called these evil vessels Infidel Class Raiders. To Farseer Ghreivan, who had just seen to their destruction, they were no more or less than a single strand each. Just a single strand among countless others, all woven through a much larger pattern . . . Ghreivan could almost see these numberless, ethereal threads of fate as he gazed out into the void.

"Your skills are formidable," the Autarch of Tear of Isha admitted. His melodious voice betrayed little of the reluctance lacing this confession. "We sustained no damage. The mon'keigh could not even manage to return fire."

Ghreivan did not turn from the starry voidscape toward the warrior. His gaze moved slowly over the ruins of once-mighty Iyanden. Only a small part of the ancient Farseer's waking mind had heard the Autarch's circumspect compliment. The rest of his thoughts followed the threads of fate, probing through time and space, groping for the shape of this part of the pattern. What strands bound Iyanden to great Ulthwe?

Farseer Ghreivan inhaled deeply, letting his consciousness coil slowly back into the confines of his physical body. He held the breath for a long moment as he turned to face the Autarch.

"My vision is clearing," he exhalded in a harsh whisper. "I am assuming command. Make course through the Webway for the Eye. Ulthwe will have need of us soon."

The living wraithbone of the command deck aboard Tear of Isha was as deeply dark and lustrous as volcanic glass. Every surface dimly reflected the glittering stars of the Void without, mingling amid the sharper but lesser glints of Spirit Stones adorning ornate robes. These precious stones, mused Farseer Ghreivan, reflected other stars—the glittering stars of the Void within.

The ancient Farseer stood encircled by his meditating Seer Council. He slowly turned on his heel, looking into their faces one by one. Most of their eyes were closed, peering deep within themselves and so also far across time and space.

“We are upon the Eye,” a helmseer reported. “Shall I make for Home?”

A near-unimaginable distance yet lay between the Tear and her Craftworld but a mellow tone of hope rang in the helmseer’s voice nonetheless. Ghreivan did not share that longing, at least not exactly. To the sightless vision of his art, whereby he could perceive the soulfire captured in Spirit Stones, the Infinity Circuit of beloved Ulthwe blazed brighter than the galactic core.

“Commence long-range sensor sweeps,” the Autarch commanded, ignoring his Exarch’s appeal.

“Thorns prick at my mind,” a Warlock half-sang from behind Ghreivan. The Farseer smiled briefly. Melnibh was his most promising student and he relied upon her more and more.

“Confirm presence of the Swordwind, helmseer,” Ghreivan nearly whispered. And then to the favored Warlock: “Your coordinates were exactly accurate, Melnibh.”

“A sister fleet is present,” the helmseer responded immediately. “Two Eclipse cruisers escorting a Shadow. They bear the runes of Biel-Tan. They are closing in on a target but I cannot read it clearly.”

“Move to join their attack pattern,” ordered the Autarch.

“Correct, noble Autarch,” the Farseer remarked. He turned to his apprentice. “Melnibh. Tell me what else can you sense here, so near to our Home?”

“I feel its . . . absence . . . like a gaping hunger--” She broke off, her violet eyes flying open. “Farseer, the Devourer!”

The Autarch blanched and immediately turned to his weaponseers.

“Reserve power to the Tear’s pulsar lances! Ulthwe will not join Iyanden in the Songs of Sorrow!”

Hmmm . . . alright. Well, I guess that you will be taking Ulthwe back as of tomorrow.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Autarch! Biel-Tan has broken off its attack run," the helmseer shrieked.

"What?" Ghreivan started, spinning around.

"They are entering the Webway now," the helmseer continued.

The Farseer hung his head and turned to face the Voidscape. Melnibh joined her mentor, her eyes focusing on her own reflection in the crystalline wraithbone of the viewing port rather than seeking further out to glare at their fleeing kin.

"They are fools," she hissed. "The Rebirth of Ancient Days, indeed." She sensed Ghreivan's disappointment, heavy as the tread of a Wraithlord.

"My vision remains clouded after all . . ."

"No," the Autarch insisted. "It is not your vision that is clouded, noble Farseer. Continue our approach and stand ready to enter the Webway after completing the attack."

"Danu" Lugh both yelled and mentally shouted. "Communications are going crazy."
The Farseer stood up suddenly as she sensed a change. She had been meditating in the crystal dome, psychically leading her warriors on the precision strike but this had left her isolated and unable to handle any communications other than those pertaining to the strike. The Strike had just been completed successfully and was coming out of her trance when she heard Lugh.Danu moved to where she was a bit more isolated and asked"What is happening?".
This time Lelldorin replied," We are receiving messages from two commanders claing that they each speak for Ulthwe." "They one has been asking for us to call off our arracks and the other is declaring that we ignore these messages because they are the new leaders of the Ulthwe War Host."
Danu stood for a moment with a pensive look upon her face before ordering, "Halt all operations and withdraw to the Eye of Terror. We WILL get this sorted out".

Upon arriving at the Eye of Terror, Danu was truly suprised for the first time in a century and uttered "What in the **** is going on?".........

I made the move before I saw he was back. Unfortunately, KK did not indicate exactly how long I_S would be on "vacation" and I assumed I would be running Ulthwe for some time and maybe until the end of Game One or Ulthwe's demise at least. It is only fair, therefore, that the move I made for 07 July stand. Sorry, John. I will think of these sorts of situations when planning for Game Two.

Their foul manipulative ways were begginging to frustrate him, but he had no choice but to hope they continued to be true to their word. He would make for Ultramar. Kaptin Dragnatz paced impatiently up and down oil-stained bomb-bay of the aircraft. He was a Bloodaxe Stormboss, and orders were orders, but this felt suspiciously like muckin' about. Why weren't they fighting yet? He knew Genrul Zag had a fiendish plan, and it was his duty to follow it to the letter. Well, picture - the scribbled crayon drawing of the battle-plan the warboss had thrust at him as they embarked had been quite specific, and it wouldn't do to let Da Genrul down. He had been known to rip heads off at the merest hint of insubordination. The Stormboss spat a large gobbet of phlegm onto the soot-blackened deck and cleared his throat. Making great show of checking his Kommando wristwatch (actually a wall-clock 'liberated' from the last Imperial hab-dome they had ransacked, and fastened in place with two ammo bandoliers) before taking a deep breath and bellowing over the junk-yard thrum of the Bomma's sickeningly loud engines, Dragnatz addressed the mob of assembled Stormboyz:

'LISSEN UP, YOU 'ORRIBLE GITZ! DA SMARTER ORKS AMONGST YOUSE MAY HAVE NOTICED DAT YOU IZ STANDING ON DA BOMB-BAY DOORS! DA REALLY CLEVER LADZ MIGHT EVEN BE WONDERIN' WHY...'

At this, several of the green-skinned warriors began to examine their surroundings, as if seeing them for the first time. Still more regarded the Stormboss with a mixture of bored indifference and incomprehension, examining the contents of a nostril with a clawed finger. Dragnatz continued:

'Dere is a very gud reason for dis - in exactly...' -Here he checked his watch again- '...5 minutes, we will be at da Eldar position. Dat's who we is going to stomp!

At this, the boyz let out a ragged cheer.

'Now, dis is Da Plan: Genrul Zag wants us to fly over dere and krump da pointy-eared gits, sharpish. Da only problem is, dey's got tanks and dreads, and loads ov gunz. Dead killy. So what we'z gonna do iz jump out of da Bomma right on top of dere heads, so dat we can krump dem nice an' quick before dey can brass da rest of da ladz up. Anyone gorra problem wiv dat? Any questionz?'

One of the stormboyz raised a hand: 'Yeah, er, Boss? Dis plan sounds a bit stoopi-' *BRRRRPPPT* Dragnatz silenced the dissenter with burst of his slugga, sending the ork's lifeless corpse cartwheeling across the hold of the aircraft. He fixed the remaining ranks with an emphatic glare:

'Shurrup, Magrat. Any UVVER questions?'

The silence, and a cloud of pink-grey brain matter, hung heavy in the air. The uniformed orks shuffled nervously, several of their number beginning to take great interest in the ends of their steel toe-capped boots.

'Gud. Now...' The Stormboss was cut off by the deafeningly loud 'DAKKADAKKA' of anti-aircraft fire. The Eldar and their humie allies must have spotted their transport, 'Da Albatross'. The aircraft dipped it's right wing, the pilot desperately attempting to dodge the incoming flak. The bomb-bay doors groaned ominously.
Dragnatz second-in-command, Sarj'nt Gorbad, yelled over the din:

'BOSS, DA BOMB-BAY DOORZ DON'T SOUND TOO STURDY - MAYBE WE SHUD FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO STAND!

'BOLLOCKS!' The stormboss replied. 'DIS HERE TRAP-DOOR IZ TOUGHER THAN WEEK-OLD SQUIG-MEAT! LOOK... *spang* *Spangspangspang*' At this, the Storboss began to stomp up and down on the rivetted panels of the trapdoor with his iron-shod feet, testing their toughness the only way an ork knows how.

'I don' fink dat's such a gud-'

*SPANGSPANGSPANG* 'Boss, really..' *SPANG* *CLANGCLANG*

'Gorbad! Iz you going soft on me or sumfing?' *SPANG* 'Dese doorz are as tuff as old boo- AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

The bomb-bay doors blasted open, 'Da Albatross' disgourging it's cargo of cursing Stormboys into the howling blackness.

The attack had begun.

That wasn't a move for 06 July, but rather 07 July (meaning IS doesn't get a move until 12:01AM "tonight"). It was just made one second early so that--as ff correctly pointed out--I needed to repost in order for the move to be legal. I didn't see IS's post because I was in "post reply" mode watching the seconds tick down before clicking "submit."

@Warboss Albatroz: Ripping good stuff! If BL ever does a book from the Greenskin-perspective they should at least ring you up to do consultant work or just flat-out hire you as the author.

Cheers! Funnily enough, I have an idea for an Ork novel but haven't got round to doing anything with it, what with Uni and everything else. The story would be based around a stray ork fungus spore that ends up on a human agri-world and grows into an ork 'baby' (I actually don't know much about the early years of ork life, so this might not be accurate...), which is raised as their own by a childless human couple. Obviously there will be some drama involved in them keeping what, to all intents and purposes, would look like a mutant child hidden on an imperium-held planet. Also, I thought it would be quite interesting to explore the 'nature-vs-nurture' dichotomy in this context; can the ork fight his 'orky' nature and appear relatively human? Would he speak and act like a human? Can he fight the urge to KILLRENDDESTROYFRAG?
I also find the idea of him coming into contact with other Orks during a raid on the planet appealling - what would they make of an ork who is so 'human'? I like the idea of a Bloodaxe Warboss taking him under his wing and teaching him how to be a 'proper' ork.

I have a lot of ideas, but the only thing set in stone is the name: Humie.

This is thread-worthy. I'd recommend putting something up in Background. Just be prepared for the flames. This sort of story, to my mind at least, would do better in Fantasy than 40k. Unlike 40k, WHFB never traded in its humor for Grim Darkness (compare, for example, the covers of the Ork Codex and Army Book). Still, I'd like to see it hashed over on the Boards.

I dunno man, any book from an orky perspective is going to have SOME humour in it. I mean, it wouldn't be like Terry Pratchett or anything - it would still be 40K. I envisage it actually being fairly serious, with a sprinkling of humour.

Slaughter Lord Shamanos had ceased speaking. As his status of his fleet grew worse his cognitive functions gave way to pure rage and hate. With no where to run, he and his brethren became like a cornered beast. And like a cornered beast there was only one option. He roared his command at the mortal vermin in the bridge. They whimpered and obeyed.

Shamanos boarded a dread claw with his most trusted warriors. The other world eaters within chanted, working themselves to a blood frenzy. Shamanos was already there, he simply roared.

After an eternity the claw impacted onto the eldar ship. Its melta charges cutting through the wraith bone. Even before the iris mechanism had fully opened Shamanos was aboard the xenos vessel. A wayward eldar technician caught Shamanos' axe full in the face.

"I AM THE SLAUGHTER LORD!" he roared at the corpse.

As his brothers piled into the maintenance hallway, Shamanos bellowed what passed for commands. "ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK! BLOOD AND SKULLS! PRAISE KHORNE, SKULLS FOR HIS THRONE!

His warriors echoed his sentiment and began to carve their way through the vessel.

Nicholai hesitated. The Astropath had gone mad, rambling about a 'Shadow in the Warp', apparently the Kraken Splinter Fleet had set a course for Ultramar, on the same course as their ship. It would be foolhardy to follow in their wake, yet there was nothing to be gained for the Vostroyans by staying there.
"Ivan!" He barked "Relay this message to the Ulthwe Strike team, they are to meet us in the Ultramar system and recover. We will shield them against attacks."
Nicholai was loathe to use the Firstborn of Vostroya as a shield for xenos, but he had little choices. Allies were a rare and evermore valuable commoditty these dark days. As the ship churned through the warp he could only hope that the splinter fleet would be thoroughly...distracted.

Finally the Strike Cruiser had gotten operational again, the last attack had done more than it had originally. The Captain had bellowed in rage when the Eldar Cruiser had first entered the system and they had been unable to bring their lance batteries to bare, now though it seemed the malfunction had worked more in their favor. A large number of the Ulthwe forces seemed committed to the ground, tied up by the World Eaters and the ever impressive Green Skins, his own forces prepared themselves for one final assault on the Eldar, it wouldn't be the finisher at the very least it could still be a crippling blow. The bridge of the Nocturne Glaive was quiet, it's crewmen, much like the Glaive itself were preparing for the hunt. The Captain's hands tensed around the control rail as he gave the order to charge lance batteries. On the surface of the war torn world the Lieutenant welcomed the darkness before the strike, the Eldar knew what the night would have in store for them, he checked the magazine of his bolter an ancient relic from times long past, it wasn't the weapon he had started this life with rather a trophy from a long gone war that to him at least seemed like yesterday. Steeling his mind and wiping away previous victories from his mind the Lieutenant gave the order to prepare, the signal would come soon.

The prow lances had fully charged, in it's current position the Nocturne Glaive's energy signature would look like it was the life draining out of the Imperial Carrier it waited behind. It's prey though, as tricky and bathed in the warp as they were, no doubt had some inclination that it was there ready to strike. The only question now was would they do anything to avoid their fate? With surprising agility the Glaive emerged from behind the Carrier and let loose with its lances, it would only get these shots.

Like the etherial lightning that played across the Midnight Clad of the Veteran Night Lords they had struck against the Eldar ground forces, a quick strike, a simple attack with its only purpose to inflict casualties and deny their prey any respite. As their Thunder Hawks docked with the Glaive, the Lieutenant congratulated his Astartes on what he felt was a job well done. Their withdrawl from the system meant one thing how ever, there were bigger and more dangerous fish to catch.

Lord Shamanos ripped his axe from the last wailing xenos female. They had fought well, with unexpected fury and two of his brethren had fallen in their initial assault. But the corridors were quiet now. The xenos seemed to have abandoned this escort vessel with the time the wailing women had bought. As the battle ebbed some of his cognitive functions returned.

Shamanos voxed his flagship.

++What is the status of the vermin?++

An exhausted fearful voice replied.

++Slaughter Lord, the Eldar fleet has fled.++

Shamanos roared and decapitated one of the corpses in disgust. He took its gleaming chest gem as a trophy. He looked to his brothers, one was mutilating a corpse with a blade.

"World Eaters, scuttle the ship, there is no war left here."

With relish the berzerkers moved off to cause yet more destruction. Alone now Shamanos stalked the halls, hoping to find xenos who had not yet fled. Minutes past and he had found no survivors. He came to a door, almost as if he had been called there. When he keyed it open he was greeted by a barrier field. Through its blue haze he could glimpse a figure, a xenos creature standing on the other side, almost as if it were waiting for him. Through he barrier it spoke.

"Tainted deviant of the Primordial Annihilator. Hear me. You will not see the end of Ulthwe. This vessel is barely a fraction of its strength. I remain to tell you of your doom. Your alliance with the orks will fail. They will betray you."

Irritated by the sing song messenger Shamanos struck the barrier with his axe, the head of it disintegrated. The Slaughter Lord eyed the barrier warily. He searched the seams of the doorway for the mechanism, there must be a way to kill it.

The eldar continued. "Your only chance is to betray them first, there will be only one victor to inherit this sector."

Shamanos drew the chest stone he had taken as the xenos prattled on. He saw its eyes follow the stone. He crushed it in his hand. Such sacrilege stunned the xenos into silence.

"Your blasphemous race is a byword for cowardice. You hide from battle, from life and even from death." Shamanos tossed the remnants of the stone into the barrier.

"Your words are meaningless." Shamanos kicked the edge of the door in frustration.

His vox crackled to life.

++The Trophy Is Mine! Objective Destroyed!++

The barrier flickered. The xenos fled from the doorway as the barrier collapsed. Instinctively Shamanos fired his bolt pistol clipping the black clad xenos' shoulder. He saw it bleed as it dived through a portal. Shamanos gave chase but it was too late. The gateway was closed.

"Bastard!" Shamanos roared.

Like a strutting bull, Genrul Zag stomped through the detritus of battle, shattered bodies and smoking wreckage marking the remnants of the Eldar rout. His stormboy battlegroup had been brutally effective and had performed excellently, if slightly erratically. Several of the bombers had caught flak on their inbound flights, and there were mobs scattered all across The Verdant Zone, site of the Eldar base. Some had exited their transports early, some had exited late - by accident or by design? It was hard to tell. In any case, the old Warboss and his retinue had noted with much amusement the great destruction wrought by the downed bommas. They were essentially large piles of scrap-metal, welded together and hauled into the air by stinking, coughing, and most importantly, loud engines, engines which had exploded in to gigantic balls of flame when each aircraft had taken enough direct hits. The sturdy construction of the aircraft had actually worked in their favour - the fact that they had not broken up in mid-air when they had been fired upon meant that the stormboyz inside had time to hurl themselves out. It had also meant that the ammunition and bombs were protected from fire, that is until they entered into a spiralling nosedive and slammed into the ground like a war-god's angry fist, culminating in cataclysmic explosions which had been very, very killy. And funny.

Yes, they had laughed at that.

The net result of all this had been that sporadic fighting had erupted all over the Verdant Zone, stormboy mobs suddenly popping up from out of nowhere to cause havoc behind Eldar lines. The Ulthwe force had assumed it was greatly outnumbered on the ground, when in fact the numbers were fairly even, and the Orks had no trukks or gunwagons in the initial assault. The dispersed pattern that the jack-booted ork fighters had naturally assumed due to the circumstances of their insertion negated the threat of Imperial fire support coming to the aid of the beleaguered Eldar force - the orks were simply too spread out for heavy bombardment to work to it's maximum effectiveness. Faced with what appeared to be an overwhelmingly large number of enemies attacking from all sides, the Eldar commander had panicked, withdrawing to the relative safety of the space-port.

It was here that they had run into the Goff warband, and were promptly cut to ribbons. Da Genrul had laughed at that, too.

He wasn't laughing now, though. Now, he was decidedly vexed. What had started out as a fighting retreat by the pointy-eared gits had turned into an all-out rout, and the much depleted Eldar force had managed to escape by the narrowest of margins. Their vehicles were far too maneuverable to be caught by the comparitively sluggish Goff battlewagons. Zog it! Zog it all to hell! Why didn't those puny elves stand and fight? It made Zag sick to his stomach. He spat on the ground. Reports were coming through on the radio from the his flagship 'Da Klaw' of large amounts of dakka going down in the outer orbit of Armageddon Prime. Well, that was something at least. The spiky boyz must have intercepted the fleeing Eldar craft. Still, why should they have all the fun? They were good fighters, but they weren't orks, and as every ork knows, 'green iz best'.

Da Genrul was shaken from his reverie by the screeching sound of aircraft screaming through the sky, seemingly headed for low orbit. He turned to the hulking form of Borka, head of the nob retinue which followed him at all times and thrust a razor-sharp power claw into the sky, as if to threaten the very heavens themselves:

'Oo, or wot, is dat?', he spat in disgust.

'I reckons itz da uvver spiky boys, boss. Da red wunz. Looks like dey's goin' to a fight or sumfing.' The raised his heavily scarred brow, trying to appear nonchalant, as if a fight was the last thing he'd be interested in. One didn't simply 'suggest' something to 'Da Orkiest Genius Dere Ever Was', as Zag styled himself. Such insubordination was liable to cost the offender one of his eyes. If he was lucky. No, it was infinitely better to let Da Genrul think that it was his idea to follow the World Eaters' craft.

'I see' said the old Warboss. 'Goin' to a fight are dey? Goin' to a fight. An' I don' supposed YOU would be interested in ANYFING like DAT, would you Borka?'

'Hehe. Ok boss - if you says so...' replied a grinning Borka. 'Orders, boss?' The nob Kaptin brought himself smartly to attention, clicking his heels together and saluting three times, each salute drawing a sharp metallic clang as it rebounded from, and left a dent in, Borka's spiked helmet.

The Warboss sprang into action, in his element now that he had scented battle, no matter how faint the scent.

'Yeah, fire up 'Da Warpig' and gather da boyz - dere's no way dat humie is beating me to a fight! DIS. MEANS. WAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!!!'

Nicholai stood upon the turret of his faithful Chimera Command Vehichle as it trundled along the rocky passageway. Behind him the Firstborn of Vostroyan marched stoically, singing in their deep, gruff voices. Their words carried into the valley below them, where a scene of nightmares was underway. Tooth, claw, Chainsword and axe all meshed into one as the Tyranid horde crashed into the Chaos and Ork lines. Nicholai paid them no heed. He had the might of Vostroya behind him, and there was no stopping that. He lost himself in song, a ballad of old that all Vostroyan children knew well.

"Beware thyne wych, the harvesters stock.
They come for bairn and helpless flock.
Look out your doors and be not afraid,
For the sons of Vostroya march here this day.

One by one they march this way,
Paying a debt that can ne'er be repaid.
The First of Vostroya, here we do stand.
With sword, shield and lasgun on hand,
We grind our foe into dust, into sand."

Nicholai grinned wolfishly. Vostroya was going to war.

Slaughter Lord Shamanos laughed as he watched as one of his vessels burned in the void. The eldar had come and like rats they had fled. But Shamanos knew, Kharnath cares not from whence the blood flows. His God had empowered races barely sentient to bleed him. So be it. His skull had always belonged to Khorne.

"Foul ork filth!" Nicholai screamed as he rended anothers skull with a swipe of his power blade. Their was no singing now, only shouting and yelling and the screams of the dying. The greenskins were surging forward, pushing themselves into the Vostroyan ranks, unfazed by the artillery the tore gaping holes in their ranks. It seemed that the Tyranids had also fallen upon the ork horde, their swarms digging deep into the Ork lines. Nicholai could only hope that they continued to kill each other, praying to the Patron Saint of Vostroya that Vostroya would go unnoticed by the monstrous tyranid horde. If they did, Vostroya would suffer a blow it could never recover from.

As he hacked and hacked into the greenskin scum, the lines between friend and foe blurred. Nothing was making sense anymore.

Ork, Imperial, and Renegade Vessels alike danced amongst the cloud of Tyranids that loomed hungrily over the Worlds of the Ultramar Sector, the only semblance of cohesion and alliance coming unusually from the typically chaotic Ork and Renegade Forces. Their was a barely noticed flash at the edge of the system as Warpspace tore it's way into real space, through the eye of this multicolored storm passed the Nocturne Glaive, the predator was silent and on the prowl, her Astartes masters having decided it was time to keep up their end of the bargain with the Ork Warboss. The Ancient Warship's prow lances flared at the closest of the Hive Ships, its hunt had begun.

"The Fleet is ready, Lugh" said Danu. The Farseer continued on to tell the Autarch, "When we arrive you will take the Spear of Morgrim and lead the Strike." Lugh straightened with news of this honour. He replied, "Thank you for this unexpected Honour". Lugh had just been assigned to work with Farseer Danu on the eve of this conflict. While it would be normal for the Autarch to lead the warhost and be the voice of the Avatar, for reasons shrouded in mystery the Farseer was the one in command. This had caused much friction between the two and Lugh had spoken rashly in criticism of Danu telling her that, "You would waste time scrying the future to determine how you should breath". There had been severl tense moments between the two that lead him to question, "Why this honour?" "Has she divined that the end of his lifes thread lies near?" Whatever she knew, Danu had become increasingly reticent, even to the point of delegating her duties to others while she spent more time in the Crystal Dome. What ever was going on, Lugh had no more time to waste pondering upon such things. The Time for battle was nigh.

It wasn't the fighting that was wearing upon him, no it was the repitition that was needed to bring bown the corrupted Mon-kiegh. The Kraken would have to wait, a decisive blow could not be made whilst the Imperials stood their ground and fought, and the Eldar raided. One or the other would have to be destroyed, preferably both. With a signal from the Captain the Glaive's lances began charging, its prey this time one of the many Vostroyan support vessels. Seconds, maybe minutes passed as the lances were charging, the Cruiser's lesser batteries working to keep the ship un-harassed. Finally, the weapons were ready, with a single gesture from the Captain the lance's tore into the Supply Ship. The Nocturne Glaive and her crew remaining in system only long enough to watch the ship's first death throws.

Night Lords attack the Vostroyians, and withdraw to Iyanden.

Actually if you look at world eaters lore you would realize I am playing them exactly as portrayed in the lore.

siege of terra -- horus croaks run away..

Siege of Vraks -- argh! its an inquisitor, jump in to a warp tear i.e run away.

Battle for Armageddon -- Angron croaks.. run away.

Heroic last stands are for loyalists. World Eaters are traitors and traitors even fearless insane berzerker ones never lose the instinct/ability to run away.

Also if you notice in my list World Eaters have never managed to win one campaign in the service of the Blood god. So all in all I am doing a bang up job.

Thats propaganda. Only Kharn behaves that way.

Look at the battles I mentioned.. why do they always run. Why bother if you don't care if you die. How can they have warbands at all?

Slaughter Lord Shamanos stalked through his own vessel. Killing indiscriminately. His rage was total. Coherence lost. All that mattered was blood. He slew his own brothers. In the back of his rage filled mind was the echo of the original thought. The Daemon had whispered to him.. Kill them all and Khorne shall deliver you from oblivion. Heap their skulls in a great pile and then we will come. A World Eater Skull Champion roared from out of the darkness. His bolter blazing a staccato of impacts upon Shamanos' armored form. His poweraxe arching downwards towards his head. The Slaughter Lord roared as he deflected the blow with the strength of a madman. His gauntleted fist countered, striking the skull champion's unprotected head with a satisfying crack. Momentarily stunned with an eye hanging from his face the Skull Champion was attacked with a flurry of blows. Shamanos' freshly anointed Axe of Khorne cutting through the his foes limbs. The Skull Champion came apart as he fell, only the torso and the head remained. Such things were to be savored. For a second Shamanos hesitated, this was Vrykren, a great champion, a blood brother.. Acidic spit splattered upon Shamanos' helm. He could smell it burning through the blood and paint. This was a dead man! Almost of its own volition the axe came down, decapitating Vrykren. Shamanos took off down the corridor. Skulls For The Skull Throne!

The Blood God's vassals pour forth from the warp, they sense the servants of the Corpse and attack. The World Eater vessel drifts to another sector. Demonic Legions reinforce.

Flee? Why prevent the inevitable? The Chaos/Ork scum have made their alliance clear, and it is stand or die with us now. Fleeing, and sheltering themselves from the foe, is for those Cadian dogs with thier tails tucked neatly between their legs. The men of Vostroya are made of sterner stuff. Death to the Greenskin foe! Come Eldar allies! To me! (Or finish of the World Eater rats, whichever suits you and helps the cause)

Lugh was meditating in his chambers when he was startled by the announcement to prepare for battle. "What in the heavens is happening?" thought Lugh, The hour for the next scheduled strike was still half a cycle away and no enemies where within striking distance. "Status" Lugh demanded in thought and words as he reached the bridge of his cruiser. Lelldorin, the young farseer who had been assigned as as Lugh's aid, replied,"Danu has ordered another attack immediately and is leading the strike herself.". Immediately annoyed at the lack of being consulted on this decision, Lugh ordered the The Spear of Morgrim to prepare for the strike and also sending the message to Danu, "Do you realize that we are attacking half a cycle away?". It was not unheard of for Farseers to come out of a trance disoriented as to the time, so Lugh's question did not violate any ettiquette but could still be considered as rude.
When the reply came, it ignored the Autarchs Jab and simply stated, "When your ship is ready take up position leading the Second Wave.". Inwardly Lugh swore furiously but outwardly he simply asked, "What in the ***** is she up to?

A Short time later Lugh was astounded by the answer to his question. It began with the arrival at Craftworld Iyanden and and Danu Sending a Message to the Mon-kiegh hiding there. The message said, "To all who are within this sector, this is our territory and for your trespass you will pay. For your attacks upon our bretheren you will bleed and for your service to the adversary you will die just as your pathetic Captain Shamanos and his *ahem*World Eaters.

Slaughter Lord Shamanos writhed in agony, his body was being ripped apart, he could hear the laughter of the dark gods. He felt the last remnants of his sanity leave him as his body warped uncontrollably. No longer could he comprehend reality. He gasped his last breath.

He was not dead. His heightened senses heard glimpses from the realm of the gods, jibbering voices, echos of battles long past, roars of defiance. He felt the raw emotion of hatred, of blessed rage all around him. He sensed the colossal megalithic presence of his god, his master. He felt a miniscule amount of that power within him, emanating from him, as an aura of rage. He opened his eyes. He had warped, had changed into something unrecognizable. He stood. The scale of his ship had shrunken. Its features lacked colour, definition. In contrast his body blazed bright red. His right hand had meshed with a fearsome axe. It glowed; flowing through it he recognized flittering souls of xenos trapped within it. The soul stones he had yet to sacrifice, imprisoned to suffer an eternity of torment within his weapon. He felt their anger and disgusting fear, Kharnath would not give those souls to his lesser brother. He swung the weapon; felt its weight attached to his hand, perfection. His other hand had morphed into an eviscerating claw. His armor had warped, each piece emblazoned with the rune of his master. Upon his back were great wings, like those of a dragon. He took a step and nearly fell, his feet now warped to cloven hooves. Shamanos roared to the warp in victory. He had achieved the goal of all who had killed for the eightfold path. He had ascended like his father before him. He was no longer mortal, no longer bound to the rules of the pathetic universe from whence he came. He truly was the Slaughter Lord.

A tear in reality appeared. He bathed in its power. A warrior tumbled out of it, another and another until he had once again a small warband. When they saw his fearsome visage they dropped to one knee. Shamanos perceived them differently too. These Berzerkers appeared transparent, their armor, their flesh yielding to display what was important, their lifeblood. He watched it pump through their forms, just waiting to be spilled.
He spoke, his voice edged in malice and newfound power.
I am the Slaughter Lord.
Praise
Be
To
Khorne!
The warriors.. No. His warriors yelled their praise.
The broken crippled vessel he was aboard shook. A bombardment shook the very foundations of the ship.
“Man the vessel! Bring us about to attack!”
The mortals obeyed.
Under continuous fire the of enemy, the World Eater ship brought itself alongside the xenos fleet. Its own meager weapons trading fire with the sleek fragile vessels.
Xenos teleported aboard. The real battle had begun.
“Defend the ship. Slaughter them all!”
Teleported Xenos were shocked to discover the living instrument of the blood god before them. They attempted to flee from his presence, instead his weapon cut them down.
“Blood for the Blood God!”

Again Danu sent her message, this time with more vitrol. "You and your corrupted kind will not escape the Eldars wrath. While you run like the plague rats of nurgle we will exterminate you as the vermin you are". While many of her peers were shocked by this vehement display, none could argue its effectiveness at rallying the Biel-tan warhost to a feverish battle frenzy.

(After the first engagement of this battle)
Victorious yet again, Lugh laughed at the incompetence of the Mon-kiegh as he joked with his men. He even jested that if the Biel-tan continued at this rate that the other races would confuse them with their darker bretheren for what they were doing to the World Eaters.

Suddenly the viewport lit up as another of the corrupted Mon-kiegh tribes attacked. A cheer ran through the Eldar fleet as they rejoiced at thier success in implementing Farseer Danu's plan. Then the Biel-tan realizing that the time for celebration was over, set about the next step of the plan with focused determination.

The grinding, gnashing mess pushed ever onwards. Ork and man drove into one another. It had long ceased to be a battle, it had ceased to be a melee...now it was a slow, arduos grind of bodies as the line swayed back and forth back and forth. The living trampled over the dead and dying of both sides, heedless of the difference between friend and foe. A blood soaked Nicholai still stood over the wreck of the Command Chimera, urging the men on.

"Cease your mewling whelps! You are men of Vostroya! Are we known for our cowardice? For our hesitation? Our dismay? No! Songs shall be sung of our deeds this day and damn any who think otherwise. Now push! Push you beardless bastards! Push!"

Song would definitely be sung, though Nicholai as he looked out into the field. The crude ork war shouts were now indistinguishable from the Vostroyans battle crys. Songs would be sung, but Nicholai was begining to doubt that any of them would still be left to sing it.

Back to Strats:

*Refitting the fleet took its time and the loss of the astropath in the treacherous attack of the Vostroyans didn't help either.
With new orders arriving, Cadia was ready to strike.*

The strategium deck dimmed, the only source of light was the display of the hololithic cube of the planet below, the gathered officers
arranged at the table looked up as another person entered. "In absence of Admiral Bell, who still recovers from the hit these
emperor forsaken vostroyans dealt at our bridge, I colonel Kurtzweil , will temporarily accept command. In his name, in memory of our dead,
to honor Cadia and what it stands for, let us begin. We have wasted enough time.Any questions? I hope not."

THe Artillery had forced off the last ork aussault, and a small break allowed Nicholai (hey, Predator dude , somebody getz me a minigun) to slump into the makeshit officers tent. Although his body demanded sleep, he had to look over the incoming messages first. His eyes strayed to one letter in particular. The Cadians, their stance so far unknown, had somehow made his way into his dispatches. The Eldar contacts on Armageddon may have very well paid off. Nicholai studied the data on their new leader with disgruntled interest, reading to himself.

"Colonel Kurtzwiel, born something or other...Several sucessive campaigns against the Hrud migrations in the Delta section..." Nicholai's eye narrowed "Contacted and trained with elements of Raven Guard as a leuitenant on a program designed to counter Eldar pirates... Distinct Xenophobia and personal sense of pride." If Nicholai weren't so tired he would have spluttered in fury at the next words "Known to remark on the...disloyalty? Disloyaty?! Vostroya. Will not. Stand for this." Nicholai threw the letter away in disgust.

Cadia would pay a terrible price for this Kurtzweil's remark...they would bleed. But first...first there were the orks.

Weird idea.

Maybe we could swap armies each 3rd day?

OTOH, could run freebooterz AND bloodaxes ......
or fitzz could run the whole waagh! Poor furry hats.

So why again do I have to be in league with chaos?

Wait for Manchu to give an official desicsion.

Oh and John you seem keen to hold onto a horde army. I also see you signed up to game 2 with 'Nids rather sharpish.

@VS: no problem. I x-posted my offer in the other thread, too.

If Eldar / CSM were "good enough", I'd have been willing to give them another go in game 2, but as Nids are better, I picked them instead.

I went for the challenge and died almost exactly as quickly as I expected I would. Actually, I was pretty lucky to survive as long as I did.

I picked Nids for Game 2 because there would be a 2nd tendril of the Hive Mind, so it seemed more fitting.

So if Manchu makes orks N°1 army of the week, you'll be an ork?

Still interested to see a greenskin JHWDD.

From a tactical POV, orks should have their 3 armies back and running as others had theirs really fast back on line.

I am leaning toward John's position here. For the meantime, someone can take over the Freebooterz. I don't care if it ends up being John or VS as long as someone is playing Nids. The Bloodaxes are going to drift. If they survive until NW or Alby are back or someone who hasn't been playing G1 joins, they'll be saved. Otherwise, open season. Fair?

If kraken didn't munch them that much, those freebooterz may still be at +-10.
You could run and reinforce. A bit boring maybe, as 4 tends to take up 4-5 turns to raise enough new boyz to fight.

We could agree at a nonaggression treaty.

Just move away from vostroya and kraken as these will kill the freebooterz....

*After a strict regiment of practice hours, the Cadians were prepared to move to phase 3 of the plan. Everything has worked as the agent of the ordo ( deleted at request of =I=)told him, the Templars sacrificing their lives, the Ravens taking the secondary targets down with them, and now the critical part of the plan of the Tacticae was his duty.
So far, his fake "kill" of the Ravens lulled those ignorant to the Emperors light in false security.
He knows, he couldn't sleep welll with the risk of a single blade in the night at his throat, but alas, the Vostroyan commander should
already have the coded message in his hands. Leaving his quarters, Col Kurtzweil met his ally of the ordo ..( deleted at request of =I=)
who offered to join him on his way to the bridge of the "Creed's Retribution".*

" Your sure about this Nicholai? I do not trust these men, they forgot their duty to the throne once and..."
" Our prognosis of the behaviour of them was correct, wasn't it Colonel?"
"Yes, but.."
"Dare to question us?"
"No,..."
"So we can move on to phase 3. Just stick with the plan and we assure you all will turn out as expected."
*Falling silent and reminding himself of the quick change this agent of ( deleted at request of =I=) had brought upon the Cadian forces ,
Colonel Kurtzweil welcomed the sight of the Guard saluting when he finally entered the bridge.*
" All stations attention. We will move, he wills it. "
*glancing to the agent of ( deleted at request of =I=), the Colonel ordered his fleet full ahead, set on a course to its new target.*

I am terribly vexed by this suggestion of jumping in and out of command. It's lame.

I also support you snooze you lose. Either having your army do nothing or you lose it to a "coup".

One person should definately not control two forces either alliance or no.

Strategic Survivor Game One @ 2010/07/15 01:16:35

Post by: Manchu

Agreed -- no one will control two forces at the same time unless everyone is allowed to do so from the beginning. I have allowed people to take over abandoned armies for the sake of keeping good, accountable players (who also happen to be good, accountable Dakkites) in the game, brainstorming how they would like to see this thing run better.

And on that note, allow me to clarify my intentions regarding the rules we've worked out together: anyone can cannabilize anything from this game and start their own at any point. I don't claim any kind of right to decide what happens with the ideas that have emerged here. I just want to see good content on dakka that brings the members together day after day.

So if you want to start brainstorming your own version or populating your own game here on Dakka, by all means--I will probably even sign up myself. I have actually been hoping that this is eventually what Game Two would be like anyhow.

"Now is the hour to strike", Danu signaled as her ship the Heart of Isha slid into position to lead this decisive strike. Her adjutant, the Autarch Lugh, had been chafing at Danu's decision to take the lead, while leaving him as the commander of the reserves. She had thought of telling him the true reasons for such but her divinations had warned against doing such. Looking around to make sure everything was exactly as foreseen, Danu waited for all ships to signal their readiness.
When the final Ship reported ready and on station, Danu looked around in martial pride and gave the order to commence her final attack on the crippled diciples of the adversarry. The Heart of Isha lurched forward as they began the jump to the Iyanden's sector.
The jump was finished all to soon and a crowded sector confronted the Farseer.

The following message announced the beginning of the strike,"You corrupted followers of the advessary where warned. This space belongs to the Eldar. To the Mon-kiegh who have purged themselves of a diseased commander. We will leave you to your journey to the Gamma sector." Danu was unsure if the message would be sufficient to let the now loyal mon-kiegh know that they were no longer a target but she had no more time. The strike had started.

Biel-Tan reinforces(1), Moves to Iyanden and attacks the World Eaters(1)removing the threat of their taint from this sector of Eldar Space.

BTW, I have no idea what's going on here with alliances, but I do support the 'you snooze you looze' or one of Shamans suggestions of coups. I feel that a max of 3 days should be allowed without a turn (as some may sit and wait for plans to unfold), but no longer. After that, they are should either be declared dead, lose a number of points each turn (Turn 1 lose 1, Turn 2 lose 2 etc) or be handed to another player in a coup. Due to the lackluster version of events presented by the barely sentient eldar; xenos who are only as self aware as rodents. I shall have to explain what happened.

The ship was coming apart. Barrages of xenos firepower ripped pieces from its hull. Even with his perception firmly anchored in the celestial rage of the Emperyan, Shamanos understood the vessel was done for. His mortal warriors, made for bloodshed were hardly adept at starship operations. The ravaged jewel of Iyanden glittered below.
“Mortal, crash us into the gypsy world ship. We shall make our stand there.”
The Berzerker whose name was unknown to Shamanos, grinned savagely at the order, flashing his bronze teeth.
“As you will it Slaughter Lord!”
The ship groaned, protesting as it performed the engine burn to direct the ship straight at Iyanden. Like a spear of an angry god the ship hurtled towards the craftworld. Xenos fire ceased as they risked hitting their sacred ground. Weaklings thought Shamanos.
In the frontal viewport Iyanden grew larger and larger. Everything began to shake violently, throwing several warriors off their feet. Although having only a passing interest in void war even Shamanos could tell their approach was wrong, none would survive the impact, his vassal had plotted the vector like a missile.
The bronze toothed Berzerker was roaring with fury. Shamanos was about to eviscerate him for his failures when the mad Berzerker tapped new commands into the console. The shaking grew severe, even Shamanos was forced to hold on. The few intact consoles blared warnings as the crippled ship struggle under the pressure of the leveling out vector.
Shamanos could now make out structures on the blasphemous craftworld. A colossal explosion from the rear of the ship signaled the end of the overtaxed engines. The insane yet controlled dive ceased as the vessel listed, then lost all control and tumbled toward the craftworld.
The warriors cursed at their new enemy gravity, as they were crushed against the bulkheads.
The ferocious titanic force of Iyanden struck the vessel. The vessel broke apart as the rear struck first. Shamanos watched as half the bridge and those warriors located there were instantly crushed as it made impact.
+++
Shamanos ripped himself clear of wreckage, carving a path to the cold artificial light of the xenos world ship. Behind him Bronze Teeth grunted and a cursed as he dragged himself behind. As he cleared the wreckage the Slaughter Lord surveyed the destruction before him. On all sides was the smoldering ruin of the ship he could not name. His daemonic sight perceived the survivors through the carnage of metal. He watched as most bled there last crushed beneath tons of admantium.
“Khorne weeds out the weak.” He muttered.
“Lord! Above.” Yelled Bronze Teeth.
In the sky above were hundreds of lights, raining down towards them. The Eldar had sent ground forces to meet them.
“Kharnath provides.” Bronze Teeth nodded in agreement with his Daemonic Lord.
Scant survivors from other parts of the vessel rallied around Shamanos. Including himself he counted eight, a good omen.
The glittering rain became tiny vessels which in turn then became tank sized vessels. From above they rained death, refusing to engage. Shamanos roared in fury as his blessed survivors were cut down by the deadly plasma fire.
One tank, more eager than its peers, flew low to tank shock the Berzerkers. In that instant Bronze Teeth stood fast, fired his plasma pistol and was cut in half by its hull. Shamanos leapt at it. His claw carving purchase in the wraithbone as the tank carried him up and into the air. The pilot looking more perplexed then terrified tried to jink his daemonic passenger free. Shamanos struck his warp blessed axe through the canopy and clean through the pilots neck. “Glorious!” He laughed as the Eldars soul was drawn into the weapon adding to its power.
The Slaughter Lord leapt free soaring like an eagle. The pilotless tank crashed and exploded below. He flew towards the next tank and watched in disgust as it sped away from him.
“Eldar!” There was no more apt curse. The race, a byword for fear, cowardice ,manipulation and sorcery circled him at great distance. Shamanos possessed not even close to the speed required to catch them. He roared pure hate as he chased them. All the while their weapons ripped into his flesh. He watched as eight tanks with enormous crystal lasers began firing at each other. Shamanos was sure this was not a good omen. He tried to dive away from the magnified death laser as it fired.
The incredible energy exploded into him. He felt no pain, but could feel his essence begin to flow back to the warp.
“Cowards!” he raged as his crippled form plummeted to the ground below. As it impacted it disintegrated. Shamanos’ essence fully translated to the warp.
The World Eaters were no more.

*The journey took longer than estimated, as something had stirred up the Empyrean, but now the Imperial Fleet arrived stilll in formation
and without remarkable casualties.*

This part of Ultramar should be free of the devourer or the greenskin menace. Instead of its famous defenders of the sons of Roboute,
there seemed to be only a few besieged Guard elements....

*Colonel Kurtzweil didn't question the plan, nor was he unwilling to fight in his name against whoever was the opponent, but why in his
eternal wisdom must it be at such a crowded place where he feared to land his dropships accidently on the heads of the Vostroyans?

Deployment of troops was already underway, embarked on his Tetrarch Lander col kurtzweil found a few minutes to reconsider the last events. The Eldar of Biel Tan "granted" his expedition free passage, which was fascinating as he wondered why anyone would stop him
from jumping into that hellpit of a struggle between Orks, Nids and IG there but as always, noone really understood the Eldar.

Comms had been silent, He had expected to hear from the Vostroyans, but maybe they deemed his cadians unworthy of their attention?
At least, the Imperial navy positioned the ships at firing range and poised their gunports towards the other fleet which may or may not belong to the IoM. Better safe than sorry.
Col Kurtzweil left the "Creeds Retribution" in the hands of the agent of the ordo ( deleted by =I=), even he disliked the thougth of his men beeing sent to the ground war without proper orbital bombardment.*

"Message to the Creeds Retribution: were in positipon for phase 3/ stage beta."

*Striding to his personal command vehicle, Col Kurtzweil sent for the Regimental banner. When his venture halted about 50 metres from the Vostroyan "lines", the Colonel signalled to unfurl their colors. Standing at the ready in a eerie silence, Colonel Kurtzweil stared at these
men who refuted to wear proper helmets and choose to wear parade uniforms. He had fought alongside many Guard regiments, but
those ahead of him seemed more alien to a cadians beliefs than most others. Time felt frozen but As seconds become minutes, a decision
would be made........*

It was at this moment that Danu used her powers to wake the captive commander. She smirked as the confusion set in and then asked, "What suprised to still be alive? We captured you on board your ship before you could enact your desperate plan to befoul Iyanden with your touch."
"No, This cannot be true!!", Shouted Shamanos as he sought to move but was unable. Looking down he saw that he had been imprisoned from his fpr arms down to his feet in some web-like material. "This must be Tzeench toying with me.", he muttered.
A perfect laugh accompanied that statement, "It was so easy to plant the fantasy of your last stand. You were and are all to willing to deceive yourself rather than face up to your defeat." said Danu as if explaining to a child. She then continued on to explain, "Your cowardly mind retreated into an absurd fantasy as soon our minds locked in battle. From there it was easy for my Warp Spiders bind you and bring you here for,...further examination."
"You will get nothing from me, you cowardly child of Tzeench." cursed Shamanos.

Danu just stood there, holding a Sword of unusual ornate beauty as she looked at him with an expression of mild amusement and said nothing.
Shamanos suddenly fearing enscorcelment shut his eyes and said, "I'll never let you in, you will never find out anything." he said as he spat at the farseer.
Had Shamanos kept his eyes open he would have witnessed the true speed and grace of an Eldar as the Farseer stepped aside and with a flowing sweep of her arm used her robes sleeve to catch every bit of his spittle and whipped the same sleeve slap him in his face. With a dark voice Danu the spoke, "I can understand how the corruption impairs you intelligence, but honestly, you think closing you eyes would keep me out if I wanted in. That is as naive as thinking that I haven't already discovered everything I already need to know." She then walked behind the defeated commander and whispered in his ear,"I can sense your confusion, It should be just about now that you ask the question, (If she already knows what she wants then why the need for further examination?)."

Shamanos wasn't sure which was more disturbing, the Eldar Witch's breath tickling his ear or that she spoke the thoughts just as they occured to him. He began to get a feeling of that could only be discribed as furious terror as the thought that he might already be a puppet of this foul frail creature.
The Farseer continued to walk around her prisoner, finally stopping in front of him. Turning to face him Danu smiled a cold and alien smile that showed just how much the Eldar and their Dark cousins still had in common. She then continued in a steadily darker tone, " We have already examined you and I have found in you what my fallen cousins have shown me in the Infinity that is our deah." "I was shown that you like like to crush the spirit stones of Eldar just before you kill them. You find this amusing because you beleive your pact with the Chaos Gods protects you from true death."
Shamanos giggled and replied,"Yes, I did such and it isn't a matter of think. When I die the warp and chaos will reclaim me and there is nothing in your power to prevent such from happening." he said as his giggle turned into a luagh.
At that moment, Danu set the tip of the sword against Shamanos chest and smiling in cold pleasure she informed him,"Ah, but this is no ordinary sword. This is a pristine Dire blade. Normally, such a sword will have a pommelstone with the spirit of a warlock within it and can kill with the slightest cut." She quickly moved the blade to where the dull backedge rested on his neck and toying with her captive she slowly ran the dull edge across his skin. After a moment Danu continued with a calm finality,"This swords spirit stone is empty, the first life it takes will capture the spirit of its victim within the empty stone,.....you see where this is going....don't you."

Just as his eyes began to widen, the Farseer plunged the blade into Shamanos's chest. She reached out and locked both her eyes and mind with the monster that she was dispatching. She pushed/guided his conciousness down the blade and into the stone. Danu did not even break the connection when she withdrew the blade from his lifeless corpse. No, she kept the connection so she could show his soul what she was doing as she laid the blade on the floor, stood up, and lifted her leg. She could feel his soul scream as it watched her heel drop onto the stone, shattering it and destroying his soul for all time.

Looking up, Danu calmly ordered the next attack. Then as if remembering something that had casually slipped her mind, she ordered the blade to be destroyed.

First Daemons don't fear.

Also they are liars and always display arrogance/superiorty. Not crybaby nonsense.

Second you can never kill a daemon only imprison them. If you had imprisioned shamanos for eternity in some never used blade I would of let it slide but you story is plainly slowed. No 40k story ever has a daemon dying. The all return to the warp. Only other daemons can consume them.

Danu finished writing. He sighed, if only he understood anything about Chaos he could of made it work.. Sadly he was a fearful eldar, afraid to let his experience stray for the focus of the path of the seer, Lets she who thirst come for him. Nevermind, I will post the story anyway.

Also if you noticed in my story eldar actions were largely Fluff-realistic. The smug haughtiness, Enganging enemies at their disadvantage, etc etc. You make daemons cry like 5th graders and kill them in rediculous ways.

FF crys for the unexistant ending for Saim hine, refuses to give me a decent ending and now writes gak.

Good day.

I'll admit, I thought the writing was a bit OTT.

I planned on "capturing" Shamanos or some such non-sense, but leave a cliff hanger if you wanted to play World Eaters for game two.

I was also going to give you the upper hand during the first part of the battle since... y'know, you did.

Point out where I had him cry. There is a difference between a sceam at being shattered and crying like your post.

1)Good thing he was a CSM and not a Daemon
2)Shamanos is imprisoned for all eternity, in a thousand tiny pieces that have fractured his concioucness to the point of being non-existant.
3) No story has yet to have a daemon cry, but keep whining and I just might.
4)So if the shards are throw into the young kings throne room, the spirit would be consumed by the Avatar? Nice little twist but I like leaving the Stone and its contents shattered.

"At this point someone, overly attached to their character, once again tries to write his own death scene with a formulaic style of Goto." ff steps up and says hush you , your dead until you respawn in the next game.

Good thing he wasn't a Daemon but just a Chaos Marine. When Daemons get a faction I will be happy to write something about the C'tan kicking their tale.

Shamans crys for Shamanos go mostly ignored as the corrupted Marine is dead and unable to write an ending story. The only response to the pleas are the question, "Do you prefer Gouda or Havarti with you whine?".

No. It is not the reason for my epilogue to the end of our armies battle. I notice how you ignored you missed the thumbs up at the end there and where in a reply to your first reply to that post where I mentioned that I was laying ground work for a possible next thread rivalry.

As to why the story ended up the way it did, It is because you seem to think that the stories are yours alone to tell. Psst,(whispering) There "are others" who also have their versions of the events to tell. I had a different story set to go until I read your self-glorifying little fantasy. I was waiting because I wanted to see what the other chaos players would do, I had a completely different story arc planned, but then you presumed to write my story from your perspective. Just because I didn't immediately post a story you made the assumption that the story was yours to tell. If you don't like the ending I gave you, tough. Next time don't presume to tell other peoples stories.

As far as next game goes, I'll write whatever I please. As long as it doesn't violate any of Dakka's policies, you got nothing you can do about it. Maybe just maybe, if you don't constantly presume to be able to dictate others stories, we will be able to play in harmony. Or not, we will have to wait and see.

Oh, as far as your your further assumption that this was a competitive thing.
1)Dude, get over yourself.
2)Wasn't aware that we were competing. Is there a Pulitzer category for Fan-fiction that I am not aware of? Seriously, you don't want me writing about one of your characters then refrain from writing about anyone elses.
3) I freely admit that my revised story was intended as a bit of a smack down for your attempt to hijack a story epilogue that was mine to tell. This is "not" about being competitive, it is about someone interfering with a story already writtem because they presume to speak for that person without asking.

Originally, I had planned on encasing the character in wraithbone and then setting him adrift near the Hadex anomoly. I was waiting to see if Darkhound and Stiener were going to fall for the bait and dog pile me. If they had done such , I had a story set for Danu to die and for Lugh to assume command while Ulthwe got a breather. Then I saw where, in either impatience or ego, you presumed that the story was yours to tell and decided that, because I had to rewrite to accomodate your self-glorification, a different end was in order. With this in mind and the fact that you had yet to go back and edit in your story add those new bits, I wrote the story as your character was at the time of the WE demise a CSM and nothing more. Even with the bits of his being promised help, he failed to deliver the skulls that were a part of the agreement. Between this failure and Danu's being in his mind to dream weave, I believe that I've covered that whole Daemonic elevation thing as just a glory fantasy woven by Danu.

If you have problem with my story, then let me remind you. History, whether real or fictional is written from the victors POV. You were not the victor.

BTW, There is also nothing preventing you from using the character in the next game. You might have to write an extra bit about reassembling a shattered crystal. If you are as gifted of a writer as you seem to think you are then you have most likely already thought of this, which then begs the question, "Whats the big deal?".

As to the not speaking anymore, fine. I'll leave off as long as you do.

I think this dispute is the result of a miscommunication. Given both sides will tell a story emphasizing their own sympathies and strengths over the opponent's, it's fair to say that neither need be taken as more definitive than the other. Shaman and focusedfire, you have both contributed very entertaining yarns and I think your work would be even better with cooperation. Let us call more than a cease-fire here and have no bad blood. Why not scrap what you currently have and work on something even more epic together?

How about we all agree to follow this very basic storytelling convention:

History is written by the Victors

That means that, when you're hitting somebody, you get to tell the story.

If you get hit, if you get taken out, then you can still contribute to the narrative but you let the other guy get the final word.

Can we all agree to that, and let this stuff end?

Strategic Survivor Game One @ 2010/07/16 19:02:05

Post by: 1hadhq

Will agree if this "final" word:

- isn't a hidden insult to the loser
- does not contradict the background of 40k seriously
- keeps the armies / characters usable in further strats games ( until the owner wants his character dead, that is).

all 3 and were fine.

BTW is it possible to hand a death scene over to another writer if the "deathdealer" sucks at fluff storys?
Would offer a "last word" if I ever releive an army of its struggle in this realm....

I think Dakka's overall rules should suffice. Storytelling benefits from multiple ideas. Cooperation is always the best answer. If an agreement cannot be reached, there is nothing wrong with conflicting accounts. The important thing is that the spirit remains convivial.

I have no problem with doing such other than I feel that Shaman becomes overly connected to his characters. The first thing I noticed about his character was that it was named after his screen name. Years of role playing when I was younger have left me feeling that naming a character for yourself usually causes issues with becoming overly invested in the character.

Aside from that one point, I have no problem with working collaberatively. Schedule permitting of course.

JohnHwangDD wrote:How about we all agree to follow this very basic storytelling convention:

Pretty much how I've seen it. While I was disappointed for the Saim Hann to not get a Wrath of Kahn dath scene, I never complained about the content of the other posters creative work because it was their turn to tell the story.

1hadhq wrote:Will agree if this "final" word:

1)Difficult to determine. Many could complain that the ignominious deaths that have been being handed out in the name of chaos fluff is insulting. Maybe better if people just do not become emotionally invested in their characters. A good start to preventing such personal attatchments would be to not name the characters after yourself(screen name).
2)Never been a story written that couldn't be unwritten. Soap operas, Star Treck and Games Workshop have all shown such. You just have to be creative enough to explain how a seeming deadend was circumvented.
3)Then we are stuck with an ever-constant and ubiquetous ending of,"I'll get you next tme" as the character flees the conflict. I'd much rather make use of the greater variety of storytelling conventions such as clones, differing points in the timeline, great quests to recover the spirit of what was thought lost. By shattering the stone, I have effectively given any future chaos player a reason to attack the Eldar. They are raiding to recover the pieces of this stone and one reunited the get the character back. Heck this could be one of the objectives you were pushing for.

1) see, hard to spell screen names like mine have their benefits...

2) And i hoped we do better than soap operas... , surely Star trek is no match since TNG and GW is wellknown for its capable authors

But my point was to keep it believable and somehow fitting to the background of the chosen army.

3) I am not against variety, but historically armies and their leaders fled the battlefield rather often than make that "last stand" which
GW's illustrators love soo much.

Your story had 2 issues:
-psi used against the followers of khorne ( who are either too mad to care or too resilient due to their patron)
and a weapon to bind souls, without a pommelstone but a soulstone ( so empty socket or not? go go goto?)
-it was aimed to paint a character as silly little minion, where your own was the superior "know it all".
Lets imagine a player is upset enough to cast your character down next game without a single word.
Silence is a sharper weapon than lenghty OT fluff...

I don't think you need a reason to fight another army from a previous game.
OTOH a supporter of the IoM has a legendary amount of reasons to oppose anyone.
But chaos? they only care for themselves, so your "reason" of a single lost character is lost to any chaos player (except its owner)from start.

BoT:
Could we please move on with the game?
Only 50% have moved yet.

1)The operative term hear is chosen armies not army. Your use of the singular in light of the rest of your post denotes a bias. Hard to accept input from biased undividuals.
2)So Khorne rage makes CSM's immune to psychic powers? I missed that in the codex. You must be reading a codex by Goto.
3)Read up on direswords and spirit/soul stones. It is not a far stretch from where GW has them and my creative use. You act as if the use of a new idea is a sin when it was just a story idea. (Iget your point, I wrote it so you don't like it. I'll live.)
4)It was aimed to paint the character in the same light that its author had portrayed his opponents.(Really, are we going down this road again? Sometimes it really feels like you try to hold me to a different standard just to create an argument.)
5)You may not think people need a reason but GW disagrees as is evident in the various fluff rivalries across their publications.
6)If the individual does not matter to chaos then why waste time to corrupt them and then to repeatedly retrieve these individuals? Seems like Chaos targets Individuals more than the common-folk, at least the way GW writes them.

Finally, something we can agree on, lets get this show on the road.

Once more the Black and Bone coloured Eldar attempt to flee from their fate, a tactical mistake had been made however. When they fled they had stayed in range of the Nocturne Glaive.

I'll do some story stuff later.

Night Lords move to Armageddon, and reinforces. Attacking Ulthwe upon arrival.

" In his name, forward Cadians, we'll stand with them !"
*The captains rushing their platoons with a short bellowed "move, move, move" into position, Col kurtzweil pointed at the waaghboss and
ordered to " bring it down"*

reinforcements had come, and time will tell if the plan was a good one or another case of the IG entering a theatre of war to stay for

Nicholai stalked through the Vostroyan camp grounds, lending a word to the wounded, drink to the tired and laughter to anyone who would listen. Spirits were high, higher than they had been for a long time. Cadia had revealed itself, and had not deserted the Imperial cuase, but merely bided their time till the perfect opportunity arose. Nicholai smiled on the outside, but his heart was still hard. Perhaps this colonel was all bluster and brazeness, but that was still better than nothing in these times. Nicholai only hoped they had not come to late.

Oh hey. Just noticed the angst here.

Just a point of fluff,

1) Isn't the closest to deamonhood a CSM can get is Deamon Prince? So he wasn't anywhere near a pure deamon. Even then, being a deamon isn't a "get out of fail free" card, as you have to please your gods for them to let your reincarnation come around easily enough.

2) When a spirit stone is destroyed, doesn't that simply release the Eldar soul inside, leaving it vulnerable to being consumed by Slaanesh in the warp? In this sense I understand trapping Shamanos for eternity, but crushing the stone straight after sounds like a release.

Those are my only fluff questions, otherwise, get over it guys.

Seeing as I only delivered the final blow, maybe EF should have the Honour of telling the Goffs end. This is because the battle was really between the Orks and the Vostroyan/'Nids

Agreed, even though the "killing blow" was yours,I think EF should write up the "End battle",I would say John should have a hand in it as well, but "Nom nom nom..I have a Nob caught between my teeth..nom nom" may be taken horribly out of context.

"They've breached the second line!" Nicholai roared at his subordinates over the shelling. "Sturmick, bring up the reserves! Ivan, have 2nd Platoon hold that flank. They haven't responded to the vox, if the flank falls the greenskins would be here in sec-"

Whatever Nicholai had been planning to say was lost as a behemoth of an ork barreled into him, the strength of a truck throwing him across the bunker room. With a howl the beast smaked it's head into Ivan's nose, dropping him instantly, and swept it's crude weapon across the side, caving in Sturmick's skull and leaving a gory display of brain matter over the charts behind him. It stood there for a second, chest heaving and observing his work with it's one good eye. Slumped against the wall clutching more than a few broken ribs Nicholai watched the creature, even in dazed and in immense pain, he could see that it was on it's last legs. It's left arm was severed at elbow, and the lasmarks and shell marks looked like a full arsenal had been spent on the creature, yet still it was standing. The thing spotted Nicholai, with a growl it took another chop at Sturmick, resting it's axe in the corpse. Reaching out to him, it grabbed him by the throat with it's remaining hand. Snorting as it brought it's face up close it grunted savagely.

"Youze dun killed me boyz. Ruined me Waaagh you puny humie. But dontz youze worries, cuz I gotz plans. I'll get whats left of the ladz and we'll finish your lot off, then wez all gonna get tegevver and come at youze with a bigger better Waagh, with bigger bette stomping stuff, and dakka. lotsa dakka. But first fings first..."

The vice grip around Nicholais throat tightened. The greenskin smiled crookedly as he choked, the brutes fingers digging into the soft pink human flesh. Nicholai gave up struggling, gave up his gasps for breath. He made his peace with the Emperor, he was getting too old for this anyway. But he couldn't help but think that, as the last gasps of breath were forced out of him, there were better ways to die...

A spear burst through the Warboss's neck and it slumped to the side, finnally dead. The grip on Nicholai's throat slackened. With a great heave Nicholai joyfully forced any available air back into his lungs. "Thank you, Ivan, I was getting a bit worried there."

"Your human comrade is unavailable. Not dead, but he wouldn't have been of any help to you for a while. The greenskins are renowned for their thick skulls."

That voice, sweet, haunting....inhuman. Eldar? Nicholai squinted past the Ork corpse into the visage of the Eldar Farseer. A blank helmet stared back. Nicholai coughed up blood, then grinned.

"It seems Nicholai, First Son of the House of Kovalt, is in your debt. I'm afraid the situation here is dire, we appear overrun."

"You are mistaken human, your kind leaps to conclusions all to easily. This ork here was the result of a last ditch effort on the part of one of their tribes, most of your forces are intact. This tribe of Goffs" The Eldar spat the ork word "Shall trouble us no longer. However, the fight is far from over."

"Pity." Nicholai grunted, it hurt to talk with his ribs. "I was just thinking that I was getting too old for this."

The Eldar looked at him, and Nicholai couldn't help but feel that it was smiling down on him. "What?"

"You are talking to one who has fought to survive for millennia. You cannot possibly understand the feeling of 'getting too old' for anything."

That was the first time Nicholai had laughed all day. It hurt.

Vostroyans continue the fight.

Once more the ever persistent Ulthwe had fled their fate, their actions how ever only delayed the inevitable. Yet again in their flight to get away they had failed to escape the range of the Nocturne's Warpdrive, something however did not sit right with the Captain, it seemed that perhaps they were leading them into a trap. It mattered not to the men of the 14th Company however, their enemy had to be destroyed.

Night Lords move to Epsilon, reinforce and attack Ulthwe .

I have to say that the Loyalists (using the term loosely....very much so) have bounced back fairly quickly here.

BTW, reading back I think I might have made the alliance a bit too 'luvvy duvvy' rather than the more realistic 'You are useful to me for now' look that we share. Meh, the joke sounded slightly funny.

Cap'n Nottwotch slipped silently onto the ship. It had been a long time since he'd last seen the boyz, and was anxious to get them off their backs and back to work bashing the aliens.

He crept stealthily onto the bridge, on the lookout for his good-for-nothing first mate, Blundabuss.

As he smashed open the door to the cabin and prepared to give Blundabuss a knock on the head with his pistol butt, something made him stop cold.

Blundabuss was sitting in his chair, holding his steering wheel, and...could it be?

Tentacles were bursting from his spine, oozing pink slime.

As Nottwotch stood in horror, Blundabuss turned around and stared back at him, his bulbous sacs of liquid swaying under his chin.

Your move, Scott!

Sorry to all for leaving so suddenly, I really should have put my goodbye message in bold!

However, now I'm back and ready to command the Freebooterz, but if you'd like to continue then I can step aside and wait for the next game.
