@ LDD: Thanks mate, any bits you don't need or want just smash them up for rubble.
The insert is two sided only one side has the cog motif, the other is left plain for skulls, wires, etc.
@ Red: Thanks, I've found even the plain boxes come in useful just to break up large flat surfaces.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Flat-pack shelving.
I thought I'd share a WIP of how I'm making them.
It is essentially as you see above a strip of plasticard with a square of plasticard with a circle cut out of the centre and the remainder of the square cut into quarters.
I could have done the supports and bookends as arches ... but maybe that's too much ... maybe next time.
After having a rummage in the bits box I found stacks of books from the Empire Flagellants sprues
Thanks all.,

Well the bits turned out OK. The only bits I'm not showing are the tracks and other tank related bits (which worked !!! 3rd time lucky I guess), and the large metal boxes ... which didn't, by that I mean they felt the full force of a 0.9 atm pressure difference, thanks to air escaping from them while degassing the molds, so 2 of them imploded spectacularly and a third was just a little squished, leaving 1 mold that works fine, I knew it would happen oh well.
top left of the above image has an odd looking rounded bit, here is what it is for, with a multi-melta, stick on the front of a tank and no more fixed hull weapons.
Also headlights! they still need cleaning up but they are really cool.
and lastly I've finally got the bits to finish the machine off:
I thought I could get away with having a few skulls
In addition I've finally gotten around to putting some of the round vents on ebay here.
Time to play with geenstuff.
Thanks you,

@ Cam: Thank you, enjoy my blog of half finished things.
@ LT: Thanks, decorating the interior is strangely enjoyable.
More work on the interior as of yesterday morning:
I masked then re-sprayed it Grey (so I could actually see what I am doing), put up the shelving and had a rummage for stuff to fill it. Two WIP Psykers dueling for scale.
I've added a second table, a bin, safe, servo skull hutch, boxes, bags and some other things that I've forgotten the names for, since (I'll post up an image in an hour, once I'm done editing the images.
Close up of the WIP psykers:
The inquisitorial one needs a lot doing to it, details to the face plate, the head in general and I'm not happy with the front clothing. The chaos one needs work doing on the head mounted on its back, maybe some more things doing to the clothes as well as some other things to sink it further into the uncanny valley. I'll be doing some more work on these tonight, just to put off painting my cultists and working on the light tanks.
Thanks for reading.

More on the psykers (with serendipitous cool effect):
I'm tempted to remove the detailing on the top part of his front clothing (the gem and wire things) and replace it with part of an imperial eagle but I'm getting concerned about the model being too "busy".
Re-sculpted the clothing and finished the head off, not too sure about it.
I'd say they are nearly done now, C&C anyone?
Also I thought I'd post up an image of my finished cultist squad from dark vengeance, so far for the second squad I've only started painting the bases, which are done identically. I don't like the colour scheme I've used, tbh there almost isn't one, all they need is yellow and purple adding and they could be rainbow warriors or whatever.

Nice work on Mr. face. I don't think he needs the Eagle, but that's me.
What's the story behind the chap with two heads?
Cultists could do with a better picture, but there's nothing wrong with multicoloured. They are meant to be a rag-tag bunch of loonies (from what I gather), so random colours aid that angle. You could always add a pattern to the odd piece to add to the random cloth direction, but do so sparingly as they will quickly become fussy. Or just tone down the colours if they bother you; extend the mid-tone highlight over larger areas and bring up the final highlight, leaving the darker creases as they are. Just some thoughts.

Lovely, lovely stuff!
Recently spotted a useful basing tool, can be found at http://zinge.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=130 - you squish your base, plus GS, onto the mould and get a really funky texture that then themes your whole force, with variation in each. So tempted! and in the long run, cheaper than buying scenic bases.
I don't know if it appeals? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also the GSing is really smooth and good, the first guy I just love, the second I think I'll only have an opinion on when it's painted. I created a similar mini a long time ago (backwards head, stooped pose) and the painting was the make-or-break I think. Maybe GS the rear head to be more horrified? That would complete it, if the rear head is utterly terrified and unaccepting of its fate.

Thank you all very much.
@Dr H: face ha! I'll be painting that on his base. I'll try and replace the image. I was going for that rag-tag look just wondered if I'd gone too far.
My main problem is that I painted them with too little contrast in shades, thanks you've given me a lot to think about there.
@LDD: In the grim darkness of the far future at least there is denim ... and leather.
@ Captain Rodrick: Interesting. I used to buy resin bases as ... well ... I'm lazy. now I just make my own, if only because I find I'm better at it. Whilst those look cool, I prefer the ones that I make myself, I have no shortage of materials!
@ Vik: Thank you sir. Once I work out the colours I'll be doing so. I'm quite tempted to do something in a John Blanch style so I might do the renegade like that.
The backwards head is not an outgrowth its meant to be like a token / talisman head strapped on like this: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/AlternativeFW/xlarge/Rpsyk1.jpg
In the 41st millenium it does not to to delve deeply in ruins of a destroyed city, left for 10 thousand years.
More creepy-ness: I made these guys before I started working on the psyker, just to play around with draping greenstuff, I know the image isn't great and I'll do a compilation image soon. The extras are made from the mantic zombies, I bought a box of 30 when they first came out and it turns out you can make 40 from the box .
All I've done is get rid of the lame nakedness of them with some greenstuff draped around them, cables wired into their flesh, and lastly sculpted some gas masks in mimicry of the Snorks from the STALKER game series.
I've thought of a token for this chaos-y warband .. I thought I'd pull the other one and put bells on them. I find that after going through several boxes of empire flagellates you get a surprising amount of cool stuff! (the kit that just keeps giving) Unfortunatly I think I throw alot of the bits away, but hopefully I've got enough to finish what I've started.
Painted the bases for the second DV cultist squad:
and lastly upgraded my stug that I built a while ago with a nice new shiny muzzlebreak
this has taken me 3 hours to type...

Sergent Crone:
When I get two more sets of Tau arms and Elsysian legs I'll make another two, one armed as above, the other with some other weapon.
I'm just throwing things together with stuff out of my bitsbox that I've collected over the years.
@Red: I'd not really thought about it. there is very little clearance between the bottom of the gun barrel and the hull so it'd have to be something like the paladin hmm i'll think about it.

no, he is not going to be painted like a Jedi, just for some reason I'm painting every colour starting from brown ... I was thinking of painting his robe (darker brown in the image) Red with the cloak (lighter brown) off-white like the cultist in my previous post, but I think I might switch it to green for a change to match the Genswick
Also managed to get halfway though the next 3 cultists.
I'm waiting to get some Vallejo model air metallics to replace my now dried up boltgun metal. So I'm stuck for now, apart from some washes and maybe clean up a bit. Not so sure about the grey shoulder pads, I'll probably redo those as grimy bare metal.

Cool office details, and plain looking chairs would be good for a fairly newly set up office, but yet to improve to cushier appointments for a more lived in Inquisitional office. Now a major safehouse would be more likely a taken over noble's place as either support for or a prize of the Inq.

Agreed, I think an Inquisitor would only hide in here if there was no where else going or they were staying low key. I was have been starting to think of the office as a little more "front line tech support" sort of, the people who have to charge / feed the servo-skulls or whatever.

Model for the psyker is the wizard from the Luminark of Hysh : http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Empire-Luminark-of-Hysh . I bought a set of the figures from the kit not long after it was released thinking "mechanicus", but didn't use them.
Lone Cat wrote:

The mouse is the round thing attached to the keyboard, based on something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826125097
The rest of the 'keyboard' is made from a few of the little keypad things in the bottom of the bottom left section in the image below, cut up and attached to each other
The Psyker may be the start of a new army that if you thought the gens were heavily converted, well in the words of the mechanicus's own band you ain't seen nothing yet
Tanks all grimed up, ran out of matt varnish so still shiny, Images coming soon.

Post by: OneManNoodles
No shield thingy it is!
Tanks are done, I got the powders done on the weekend:
I'll try and get a pick of the whole squadron later in the week. I also have 3 more tanks that I could paint up, I'm a bit undecided whether to do so or just sell them all (including the ones I've just finished).
I'm moving towards bringing the Genswick project to an end. I've really lost my mojo for making things (especially tanks), I'll be adding a further 27 infantry, and I'll be scrapping 2-4 of the semi-made tanks that I had started on.
Here are the unpainted ones I had lying around ... painted!
Also I've given the Genswick 44th regimental banner some love. The Men at arms kit comes with a decal sheet with some Castles on them so I thought that by adding some cracks into it would be the perfect symbol for a siege regiment.
part of the extra 27 infantry is these two priests that I've been having fun with.
Shield thingy stays here, it covers a badly sculpted mess.
priest 2, only idea for this was "book on a stick" and a shotgun hacked off the Dark vengence Tetchvar cultist leader. Not sure If I can add any more to this guy.
Lastly I finally got around to casting that window filler thing I made a little while back.
and I should say, If you notice that the banner guy in the bottom image has a sword with my first attempt at nmm on it, then if you look up to the genswick infantry you'll notice he has a chainsword. This is because whilst preventing my matt varnish producing a white frosting on the model using a fan heater, I melted the sword.
Thanks once again.

Thank you everyone. I'll get a pic of that sword whenever I find the damn thing, bent like a kukri.
Glad those priests have gone down well. I'm really enjoying making "characters", as usual I have more Ideas than I have time for. Just have to see what I come up with when I get around to doing more.
I've been doing a pile of casting, tank tracks based on 3d prints using shapeways "strong, white and flexible", I really don't like that name, Its a horrible material to cast with, lasered nylon powder sucks in the silicone and the uneven texture means more places for bubbles to get trapped, so about half the casts have failed so far.
@ vik: Actually I was in ikea 2-3 weeks ago ... after 4 hours I found the way out....
@hk: Thanks mate, the cast was made using the mold method you mentioned in your necron thread, works very well for small pieces.
@LDD: Thanks, maybe if I have call to do so again I'll give it a try.
@ Dr.H: Haha, I'll have to see if I can find a head with a look of horror on it and save it for that.

@ PDH: Thank you very much, I find my self drawing inspiration from your thread quite often. Not even daemons are immune to paper-cuts. sounds like something that'd appear in 7th ed there
Tank line up:
I really enjoyed painting them, so I might just put 2 more that I've left lying around to use, these are not ones I've "forgotten" but rather ones that I've simply not known what to do with. There is a 7th lying around that I could use but I'll probably let that one go at some point.
Psyker really finally finished, with a base and everything.
These are the tracks I've been casting, from 3d design to resin cast. Really they have been a massive pain because of opting to use a cheaper printing method with an unexpectedly rough powdery surface that even after cleaning up made air bubbles more common in the casting process and obscuring a lot of detail. I might have a nother go at making them, but seriously not any time soon.
They will look fine with some dirt on them.
Lastly I've finally updated my swap shop thread with bits & prices
Thanks everyone, I had hoped to post this saterday and have a lot more progress by now but such is life.

Tarpaulin rocks (never thought I would say that ) really looks the part did you have a PC base first ?
Tec servitor's GS is amazing any chance of a back shot I want to see how the hood section looks, how did you do the scroll on the front by the way if you don't mind sharing ?
Great work mate

Thanks everyone, some more shots for you.
Composite image of the tarpaulin for you all.
The tarpaulin was made by rolling out a big ball of soft, warm greenstuff between two sheets of greaseproof paper shaped to be the right size and thickness to just cover the top of the gun compartment.
The visible supports that you can see on the top are where the greenstuff sits on plasticard "ribs" that I build into everything I do now. Otherwise the greenstuff is sitting on air below it, with gravity (and me rubbing it with a shaper) giving it the sag.
Back when I planned to cast this, I filled the gun compartment with broken lumps of left over resin then filled it in with leftover resin from molding before it had set, meaning it's like a brick.
The loops are just really thin sausages wrapped around.
More on the acolyte
Thinking of swapping out the las-pistol for a FW Dkok plasma pistol, just because for some reason its smaller. I've removed the bionic jaw since then, just silly, gave him a cybernetic ear instead (hearing aid).
@LDD: Its not so much a hood, part of the robe, got the idea from the Inquisitor rulebook. The scroll was done in the same way as the tarpaulin but on a smaller scale, thinly rolled out grenstuff on greaseproof paper, cut and shaped with a knife-blade. some people let it cure I'm a little impatientjust tack it on but instead of laying it flat add some folds and creases.
@ DrH: Yep its a door ... As for the yellow submarine not seen that since I was 6 or something, you'll have to remind me.
Thanks again

It's been a while since I dropped in on this thread. You got a bunch of great stuff going on. That psyker looks great and the Basilisk M2 is genius. Did I read right that you are running out of creative gas?

Dkok/fw ig stuff is generally slightly smaller - more "realistic" (ahem) proportions. Digging the acolyte, I would amend accordingly.

Ringo (maybe) picks up one of the holes from the sea of holes and then uses it later to release Sg. Pepper's band from the bubble they are trapped in.

@ Cam: The head is from the the empire luminark kit, as was the body there are a few cool heads in that kit including one with a really mean goatee that I'm looking forward to finding a use for. I picked up the crew from it from a bits seller on evilbay.
@ 40kFSU: less creative gas more driving gas. Probably just tackling too many projects at once.
@ DrH: So much LSD.
@shas: Thanks for the tip, I doubt I'll be playing anytime soon however.
Acolyte finished, swapped the gun out this morning, couldn't use DKok hands tho, I'd have one huge hand and one tiny one, so instead I found the perfect las pistol. Image reference Inquisitor rulebook part one page 38 in the pdf.
so that's him done.despite the holster not matching the weapon in any way what so ever.
I also summed up the effort and time to get some paint on the last Dark vengeance Cultists, I'm basically only using Vajello model colour paints now and the black is very matt, hence it looks different on the model to the spray I'm using, not a problem I had with the old chaos black.
Thanks for stopping by.

Good pistol, I think it is one the image was used in the game Inquisitor RPG as they do have a wide weapons range as well as equipment.
I had a lot of fun running the RPG and making the hoops for the group to jump through. ^^

added the rear of the tarp
Started adding some tracks too. I molded from the hull (yes 1 year later) and its great but now the model it has holes in it from the attachments I made for pour points, my new superglue is stronger than the plastic.
Oh and also the hull weapons are magnetised.
Some of the resin bits weren't selling as well as others ... so I made a 30cm long section of raised pipeline with them
I swear my photography is getting worse! I bought a set of foam sheets from hobby craft for using as backgrounds in black, white and blue, I seem to have lost all but the black one, not good for lighter painted models.
@ graven: Thanks for the tip, I'll have to pick one up, they are great models a little limited in pose but - like so many things- nothing a sharp knife can't fix.
@ hk: thus far its more art than science, I'm not looking forward to trying to successfully repeat it
Hopefully I'll be able to finish the tracks off tonight, can't see myself getting much done this weekend.

Edit: replaced images to be less rubbish
69494
Post by: OneManNoodles
Right so I've replaced those images in the previous post with some slightly less terrible ones.
I don't think I did as well on the rear tarpaulin as the rest of it but at least you can all now see it . So the basilisk if finished now except for painting, which is something to look forward to.
These are two pet conversions, an arco-flagellent and a DCA, I've been working on for a while, whilst I think I've just about finished them, I'd not put anything up yet and thought I'd better share before revealing them finished.
Based off of a vampire counts ghoul, I'm thinking of making at least one more of these ( I could make another 7 with the bits I've got left over). Really fun to make.
And lastly a DCA from a DElves witch elf, I'm cobbling together some bits to make 2 more, one being based on a DEldar wych, including casting my own power weapons for them since I haven't found any long thin blades that are suitable.
Time to finish those cultists, I've taken some images, just need to edit them. which will mean I can finally move on to painting something else! Like those two priests for example
Thanks.

the flagellant looks amazing...your GS work is going places!!!... the only thing I would add is that the pipes on his back are a bit bland.. if you add just a small length of rod and then a "rivet" on each the syringe look of these pipes will be there...
the DCA is also a cool conversion... I think if you give me a bit of time I could look through my dark elves bitz or the DE stuff and I could come up with thinner longer blades... but actually I think if you aren´t feeling these.. then scratchbuilding blades would be no feat for you at all
and I still don´t know what caused the holes in the tanks underside... (technological description confuse me )
and the raised pipeline looks very good too... will there be more of this to form a compete terrain setting?
62749
Post by: Dr H
I like the addition of creases to the rear of the tarp.
Tracks look suitably track-like and the pipe and support are nice.
arco-flagellent is very nice
Assassin is also nice. Like the mask.
scratchbuilding blades
Can be done from lengths of sprue.
Although getting them really thin can be tricky as they become very flimsy and therefore difficult to work with.
69494
Post by: OneManNoodles
I threw my sprue away
However I have lots of offcuts of plasticard
Edit: That blade is awesome btw, mine is no where near that good
@ Vik: when I moulded the tank hull I superglued some thick plastic rods to the underside to make the gaps to pour the resin into, only when I went to remove them, it tore through the plastic
Thanks for the tip on those pipes, they are not attached very well and were supposed to be vials of liquid, I'll be giving your suggestion a try .
As for the pipeline, maybe I've got more than a few bits and half-started things that could be re-purposed to doing something, maybe a pumphouse thing then on the otherside of the pipeline an out of control tank smashed through it or something. I'll see.

tut tut. That's free building material there.

Plasticard is just as good (but not as free) as sprue. They are both polystyrene.
Thanks. I need to get around to finishing the others I started at the time. Probably the thing to do after the tank.

oh... noodle statues...sweet looking... tho the seal and the scoll do look a bit cheap and out of place... your alcoves tho are seet eyecandy...
how much do you take for such a resin piece by the way?
69494
Post by: OneManNoodles
@ 40kFSU: I doubt it, I'm adding another 20-odd using the existing bretonnian men at arms, I can't really see gee-dub replacing that kit anytime soon when they can add more mega-kits.
I had at one stage thought of selling all the infantry and using Deus Vult Foot Sergeants by Fireforge games, but too much effort.
@ Vik: Thanks, the seal and scroll are there to cover 2 large air bubbles left when casting. All the resin bits you see there are mis-cast ones.
All the pieces shown are up on my swapshop thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/508248.page
except the large piece which is probably £1.50 each. The little alcoves are £0.5 and the large ones are £1.

~Thanks all, I really appreciate your comments
@40kfsu: Don't get me wrong I like the current men at arms & archers kits, but I don't really see them re-making them when I can (cynically) see them adding some large, new, multi-use kit like a plastic trebuchet that can be built as a giant rabbit or something far less interesting.
The bret's need plastic grail pilgrims or at least another infantry kit (which might make good genswick!), plastic squires etc.
Even though I don't do fantasy (and I would like to) bret's are such a cool faction that they need some love to actually give them a range of models besides 3 kits. The only thing that needs more love from gee-dub is sisters and they need to have what dark eldar had done to them.
I'm really proud of the cultists, almost every colour on them is tinted brown (I hear they bounce around a lot). They are one of the few models I've made that I'm happy with except for a few gaps left, I'll probably be putting them up for sale tomorrow.
Just putting the finishing touches to my priests and that arco flagellent,
I can't do the syringes Vik so I'll be styling them as vials, because really how would they inject themselves on their backs? Ask each other politely? So I'm imagining something slightly more complicated like an small servo-iris controlled by cortisol levels or something.
It really bugs me that servo arms are not servo controlled arms they are modelled more like rudimentary pneumatic / hydraulics.

Death cult assassin with plasticard sword
I'm making two more of these to make a small kill team using resin copies of the sword blade shown.
The arco flagellant.
I'm definitely making more of these. Far too much fun!
And lastly a new warrior acolyte with flamer, that I made quickly,
The only thing I'm not sure on on the flamer girl is what to do about her back, I'll have to add some sort of kit there, replacement flamer fuel etc. Oh and high heels, may also remove the pipe coming out of the vial on her back.

Lastly the second Flagellant. Long way to go on this one, all i've really done is assemble him with greenstuff, the head is going to be a mass of coiled wires swerling in a simular direction to that of movement, bionic eye and injectors down the legs.

Oooooooh..... I like! How did you do the pyramid bits? Scratch built or for a kit? I can think of a couple of uses for such pieces on one of my buildings....
Colour wise - a nice copper, descending to a green tarnish would look good (I think)

Still not decided on a scheme on the pyramids!
It is taking a while as I'd like to paint more terrain than just these in this scheme. I've done a little colour sheet of those that I'm thinking of using [directly below], the light blue is supposed to be the verdigris, closest I can get with gimp. the slpit with the green / brown is either-or shown next to the the 2 fixed colours.
... Here is me making a mess of them testing (left) and one painted with a solid dark green (right). I know it clashes but I quite like the green, which is why I'm thinking of adding the dark grey to split them, (also its easier to add rust weathering).
I will, one day get this finished!

Half right .
The head, torso and legs are from the empire greatswords kit ( they look more armoured than the state troops, an army made of the state troops would look cool though) + the new storm trooper arms with the hellgun having the barrel swapped for a bolter muzzle break and the ammo clips swapped.
Blissfully little cutting, the arms fit a treat (so no filling!) and don't look goofy like scout arms would. Only thing I need to do is add a ejector thing for empty casings. I'll be basing it off the M4 series adding a little flap is easier than drilling in etc.
@cam: No-way could I delete that.
I see what you mean.Thing is verdigris occurs strongest on top most facing surfaces and those that would be most exposed to water; rain, paths of least resistance etc and what is dissolved in it.
I will be adding surface variation, I was trying to add streaks as I went, and I can add copper via scratches and damage and also some can show under the skulls where they, but it's a pyramid, 4 of the sides face up .
@vik: I'll see what I can do.

I like it mate, I think its very "correct" , i.e. when you look at verdigris in real life it tends to be a standard flat, even colour.

I love the pyramids! The verdigris looks great. If you wanted you could always add some washes of bronze to the recesses of the small arches. I did something similar on some verdigris bronze masks and it worked out well.
One thing I've noticed on some buildings near me is that the verdigris color can actually leach out from a metal roof and stain the stone below it. You end up with turquoise rain streaks and stains on grey stone. It's really cool looking and could be a nice way to tie the roofs into the grey parts.

Will do. I'd nearly forgotten about the staining, kinda rushing to get these finished so I can move on to other-things without adding even more to my desk . The bronze wash sounds like a great idea I'll give it a shot.
I tried to add some darker streaks on to the pyramids but I don't think it worked out, looks like greener blotches, nvm I'll fix it soon enough.

I added some rust whilst I was adding more verdigris and finished it up with some oils.
Whilst I had my brushes out I also finally got around to painting the extras for my Imperial fists Ironclad dreadnought that.
Other things; some bases. 10, 25mm bases, down 30 to go!
And lastly this is what is next for my painting block.
2 Street lamps, that weird psyker mutant guy, 2 random flag waving traitors and 'Hamlet' the snork.
Thanks readers.

Thanks people. I'm quite happy with how they turned out. Now I just have to try and remember how I painted them for next time. I'll get some close up shots soonish.
@ Vik: Snorks from the PC game STALKER not this snork or these (which would be way more creepy imo.
yellow painted from black covered with gloss varnish, really shiny I 'may' fix that. Meanwhile I'll put a full frontal view up at some point.

Plasma.. Blue, or orange?
I'm thinking orange
Something wicked this way comes
Kinda got those lamps sort-of finished. So now 4 matching
and resin loudspeakers
with more bubbles than you can shake a bar of soap at
More sporadic updates in the near to distant future
.

Post by: lone dirty dog
Blue for the plasma looks more imperial IMHO.
The something Wicked keeps reminding me of Hannibal for some strange reason
Love the lamp posts the blue and gold contrast really nicely with the off white
Great idea on the speaker shame on the cast turn out though, are these parts you have 3d sculpted ?
If you start to sell them let me know I have a use for some on my Grot tanks
69494
Post by: OneManNoodles
only you LDD could see Hannibal (Thanks btw )
and yes those speakers are 3d printed, so far I've only had one cast that's turned out ok-ish I need to re-mould them to fix the bubbles.
I've plans to bolt the few that I have on a tank turret for mobile propaganda Kim jong style.

less updates in the nearer future?... RL been bugging you?.. best wishes mate!
as for the wicked one... *shudders* but in a good sense...^^...and now as LDD mentioned it... Hannibal the tv show... with that fether that spiked his victims...
the lamps look very good... very good !
as for the plasma effect... well the scheme says orange... but the thought of LDD I second too... blue plasma is more IG...
and the resin loudspeaker... well bulletholes^^... seems someone doesn't like propaganda^^

I ususally go blue for the plasma weapons
62749
Post by: Dr H
Nice work on the lamps.
Loudspeaker looks nice (excepting bubbles).
Interesting start to the wickedness.
And blue is more typical for plasma weapons. So orange would be a nice change.
However, I think the blue matches the tank's scheme better.
Also, from a science standpoint, blue light is actually higher in energy than orange and blue stars (made of plasma) are hotter than yellow/orange stars...
Just some thoughts. Depends on what you want. Go with what you like.

Interesting, I've not seen the show, the character I have in mind should be suitably disturbing have no fear.
The bubbles actually suit my purpose for the speakers, I want to have them rusty and beaten up so I'm not complaining
Nothing worth complaining about, just my sense of humour at play and thank you.

Traitor Psyker finished. Really quite happy with this chap, didn't actually take long. Except for going back because of forgetting things.
I also threw some bits together for 2 more acolytes.
The one on the left, who I'm thinking of as a kind of captain of the guard, I'd like to have matching arms so I may just swap those out (keeping the weapons) for two of the armoured arms from the scions kit if / when I buy one, since I can find a use for all of the bits I think.
In my last delivery from shapeways I added something inspired by RedHarvest, it's a seat for bases to sit on steps, the steps themselves are 10 x 5 mm which is about the same thickness as the foamboard I have around here and coincidenteally looks a lot more human friendly to the steps you usually see. I've got about 10 of these painted up now (black with textured grey on the smooth bit (where I poured the resin). The grainy texturing from the printing works to the advantage here.
Still on the 3D front, I've been doing a lot of 3d modelling. I finally made some Trench rails! I want to round off some of the sharper corners else wise they are done.
And lastly I put those speaker to some use:
They still need some cabling going from the back of each speaker into some where on the back of the turret. pretty happy with them overall, I cast more up they all seemed to be ok, some internal bubbles that I'm hoping I can solve by making a new mould. I'll be hollowing out the core of the digital model and uploading them up on shapeways anyway.
Had a bit of a sculpting binge last night, pics when I post an update tomorrow. Also there will be blue!
@Magos: Now you know how the rest of us feel doing the same to yours!

Nice and useful stair climbing thingies.
Good and solid looking trench crossing wossnames.
And that's going to be one LOUD turret.

Psyker looking fantastic, love the flesh tones.
Like the layout of the trenching bits.
Turret looks awesome, reminds me of Kelly's Heroes...
69494
Post by: OneManNoodles
Kelly's Heroes is one of the greatest movies ever made, that was most of my source of inspiration for the idea. When I did play, my dice rolls were bad enough that tanks might as well have been firing paint rounds.
Blue:
I did say I'd been on a bit of a sculpting binge. My idea for 'hannibal guy' was to turn the head into something like a plague doctor.
Needs more ragged clothing especially around the head & shoulders (this chap does have dandruff issues) before I start to tackle the legs, the hands & arms I'll leave till last.
First attempt at sculpting hair (bottom) and the top guy, despite nearly sculpting all you see in one sitting, there are loads of issues with join marks where i've sculpted different bits at different times.
I'm drawing a lot of inspiration on works by Adrian Smith.
LDD: the trench rails are mostly for my own vehicles but they also fit the Leman russ
Thank you all

Never even considered the kelly's heroes connection seems so obvious now
Hannibal guy skin texturing is looking pretty cool, although not sure about the head at the moment maybe wait till you pull it together with the rest of the GSing
I like mallet guy the face mask looks great, also think the hairless wonder (I feel his pain) looks spot on don't be so hard on yourself mate
As for the trench rails if you have any spares and want to sell them please feel free to PM me they are impossible to get hold of FW anymore well without buying a complete kit
Once you sort the megaphone mould out would be interested in a few of those as well if you have some for sale

@LDD: I've finished the design for the trench rails, just cobbling together some other things that I can have made at the same time, any requests?
The "Hannibal guy" is going to have a plague doctor look.
Also new mould for the megaphones, not so good news, I'm going to pull the "blame the weather" card and try something else.
Not much modelling mojo, bit too warm for my tastes, managed to get a few Genswick painted last week felt good to paint something easy for a change.
It's interesting to see how much my painting style has changed recently
The lieutenant at the top's horn is meant to be brass, looks really golden tho, (yea the opening needs cleaning up). I've 10 more on my desk waiting for my brush when I'm finished this post.
Also I found the time in the past few days to use those resin tracks of mine and put them to work on one of the ragnaroks that seems to be a permanent feature of my desk as well as getting some of the surface detailing done on them. unpainted genswicker for scale.
Because there can never be enough half started projects on my desk
After a raid in my bits box I thought I'd have a go at making a towed earthshaker artillery piece, design-wise i'll be copying the Soviet M1931 203mm howitzer, at least for the base and trailer. Damned if I know how long that is going to take to make.
Lastly I bought the Vraks trilogy from FW a little while ago turns out they are the 2nd edition too! updated in 2010 for 5th edition (they still missed out the points cost for the macharius tanks!!!). The army lists look pretty balanced and fun, my only gripes so far (bar the failing to put points costs in... again!) is there are too many apocalypse size battles for the re-enacting. Oh and the books weigh a ton!

Yes you can tell your painting style has changed by the shading technique you are now using and the battle damage marks, it has changed for the better IMHO.
I thought that you was going with the a plague doctor look but was wondering if it would work without some kind of robe wear, I will keep watch to see how it turns out.
I hope the new mould works out for you be glad to see those in production, cant wait to see how those trench rails come out you could have a winner with those

Meltaguns!!
I've got about 15 of them spare and will be selling them for £0.50 each, will be on my swapshop next time I update it. Along with some more pieces when I remember to photo them.
I've got 4 meltagun armed genswick on the go (3 can just be seen).
I was having a play with a few bits the other day and came up with these 3.
The priest chap on the left (very WIP) is going to have some sort of microphone set up with the centre servitor being the speaker (zoom in on his mouth), I'll give him some sleeves too at some point.
I'll be removing the speaker from the vox pack, putting the storm bolter on a servo arm mount just sticking out slightly from its current position with an ammo belt running from the gun to the pack.
The novice on the right is basically finished, carrying scrolls under one arm and a staff with an incense burner on top in the other.
Lastly because I've been doing a fair bit of casting over the past few weeks, I've assembled a few odds and ends from bits that were not quite up to scratch.
Top thing ... no idea, seemed like a cool idea to use my window blockers into wall pannels it's only 3 sided so it will be attached to a wall at some point (when I make aforesaid wall). bottom left is an attachment point for the pipeline that I made a little while ago, its the same two bits that you see in the bottom right with some tube stuck on, btw the tube bit was once the demolisher cannon for the ragnarock.
Time to finish those gens off ... or riveting ... or sculpting
Thanks,
OMN

Works well has a lot of potential indeed I was thinking about what else you could create I had a thought you might like or not.
Looking at the megaphones I am thinking of a com system that could be added to the command tank, something he can speak into to which is projected through the mega phones that is added to the turret section.
That way you would know which is the command tank and look more detailed on the table, also maybe some kind of alternative exhausts and engine section that can be added to the Leeman Russ rear a bit like the old FW kits that they stopped selling with the the trench rails

Post by: OneManNoodles
Hmm I'm not sure what you mean with the sound system LDD, I could probably construct sometihng with the bits I already have..
I remember there was a conversion pack for the reqular russ, that added an expanded engine section, do you mean something like that? I could probably build something like that out of plasticard plus a few odds and ends that might be too painful do do by hand.

I mean like a tannoy system for the Megaphones so the commander could speak into at the turret to scream out to the heretics, it might add a nice detail to the tank turret just a thought.
As to the engine section and exhaust something like this but not this :

Thank you everyone, the shields were kind of to save having to buy more cadian lasgun arms.
@40kFSU: Thanks for the idea I might just do that. These three are for a SWT with flamers, but I've got plenty of shields for doing more in the future. Also might make for a cool diorama!
I've been playing with plasticard a little, made a start on a new breech for the towed earthshaker;
Also got workign on the main body of the chassis. gun shield may be a little unimaginative but ho-well, I'll make up for it else where .
Sneaking into the pictures you can see the start of the rear section, just the top pannel so far while I work out the rest of the geometry. It's going to be a big gun, around 20cm long IIRC not including barrel length. There will be many rivets!
Breakfast is served:
might make for a fun objective marker.
I've also got another 12 or so things to add to shapeways this weekend so far, more to come. I'll keep you all tuned.
Thanks all,

The artillery is looking good fella, are you going to do a crew and towing unit too ? Would make a cool little game-able diorama !
Ref. guys with the shields, to my eyes the shields are too similar to the figures and just make the whole thing look like " WHFB in Space"
I know the Genswick suit the vibe you have going but maybe they could use some tech. or Aquillas and a little view slit like the SWAT shields have.
Or not.
69494
Post by: OneManNoodles
I'd thought of adding something like that to the shields, but couldn't decide what.
I'll add some decals to them with a whole load of metallic scratches and dents painted on, should help to disguise my lazy paintwork too.
I've got a spare tank chassis that would make for a nice trojan, all it needs is a top adding on, there will be a crew eventually, I'm thinking of just buying one of the FW krieg artillery crew sets to use, a helmet swap and they'd work fine, but one thing at a time (for a change).

This is going to be my last post on here for a few weeks while I have a break and sort some things out.
So in light of that I'm putting up all the things that have been crossing my desk over the past few weeks that I'd not posted about sooner
You may remember I made a carapace armoured veteran using bits from the empire greatswords, scions and grey knights kits, here is a nearly finished 5 man squad.
Heroic scale means all your troops look like overloaded mules, carrying the equivalent of a phone, wallet and car keys ...
I've given the priest some green sleeves, and quickly put two menial servants together while searching my bits box for something.
Years ago there used to be figures (maybe necromunda, I don't remember) with cybernetic arms with drills on, the art is also full of them, yet no drills! So I made one, this is the result so far:
I found a large eye from the spawn kit, combined with a fantasy ghoul and something creepy appears, botttom right image the thing dangling down below its neck is not a tie, it's its tongue with a large smiling mouth.
At least I'm not going to run out of things to paint any time soon!
Lastly, for those who are interested, I spend all day finishing and uploading a pile of smallish pieces that I'd been working on over the past month to shapeways: https://www.shapeways.com/designer/UncannyAutomaton?sort=newest
Thanks for reading everyone, I hope you enjoy the pics.

I like that you've given the priest menials....it always seems appropriate.
The ghoul with eyeball head is brilliant.
The pitslaves, with tool arms, were indeed from Necromunda. How did you make the drill for your version?
69494
Post by: OneManNoodles
Thanks everyone, iHead needs some rags adding to it still.
For the pitslaves drill I cheated and 3d printed it. I'd considered a number of ways to make it, sculpting around a small nail, an ordinary wood screw, you can even buy some small drill bits (probably for dremel like drills) that may be suitable. Size is an issue tho.

Post by: lone dirty dog
Great stuff I really like the carapace armoured veterans the combination of parts actually work well, usually they look like warhammer minis with bolters but these actually carry the 40k vibe nicely.
The priest is a nice combo of bits love trying to figure out what it is you used the only thing stumping me is the torso the arms work well nice relaxed posing
The necromunda based guy (as not sure to his purpose) looks pretty cool like the 3d print drill bit maybe add something to his legs though as they still look to maraudery yes I know its not a real word
As for "Blink" that is one dam ugly looking beasty kind of reminds me of a teacher I once had, any chance of adding a tweed jacket with leather elbow pads and bad breath

The army lists look pretty balanced and fun, my only gripes so far (bar the failing to put points costs in... again!) is there are too many apocalypse size battles for the re-enacting. Oh and the books weigh a ton!
Thank you all

And tell me about a rectangular gorget an infantryman is wearing please. is it a generic cadian or how do you make it?

So, I'm kinda back ... with terrain!
Had to do some painting over the past two weeks to stop myself going crazy.
My own Resin Postboxes...
... bulkhead lights...
and lastly I've got started on painting these marine statues, the verdigris is probably done, bar an oil wash, the rest has only has the the basic colours put on
@ Lonecat: Greenstuff + a Cadian un-armoured torso.
@ DrH: Actually I was replaying HL2:ep2 at the time ...

The light is particularly effective.
HL2 and it's episodes are still good games. I re-played HL2 a while ago with the Crysuit mod and extra bad guys. That was both fun and intense.

Thanks for the awesome feedback, I'm working on casting up more of those postboxes along with a whole bunch of other bits, so ... more to come.
@ Lone cat: next time I sculpt one up I'll post it here.
This is the closest I can provide for now
I've been working on the statues some more, basically finished now, a few bits need some colour.
@ Dr H: I know mate, I was just trying to print a quick hl2 ep 3 out now, poster to go on the back of one of the statues. I'll have to install the extra combine mod, I find it a little easy on hard.
Lastly I'm selling my small word bearers force based off the DV set (they are in my gallery somewhere probably) aong with my Imperial fists ( most has been sold already) to make a fresh start.

Look for Smod and/or Crylife. That's what I used. It adds more than just more combine, there's more zombies too (fast ones at that). It was a little glitchy in places, but that may be fixed now.
Good progress on the Statues and inquisition (who's chief weapons appear to include a sledgehammer... )

I did a little greenstuff work last weekend. I recommend reading the book of armaments chapter 2, verses 9 through 21 for instructions on its use.
Over the week I got some paint on what I am saying is the bases for the last Genswick.
The chap in blue I'll try and get done by the end of the day, he's an advisor I put together from some random bits.
Whilst I had my brushes in hand I got some more colour on these gents, I'm happy with the way these are going, particularly with the flesh tones which are too hard to see with my camera.
As I mention, I'll get that advisor finished today probably, but meanwhile I'm working on the Heavy arty.
@Ruglud: Good idea! that's now on my to-do list.
@LDD: Cheers mate.

Cheers Cam, even at my ridiculous prices I've already sold most of my imperial fists, the rest I'll be lowering the prices probably.
The only reason I'm selling is because I'm considering a small 30k force or something, I'll probably get rid of the tank company soon too, they are just living in a box elsewise.
It's only the top of the cushion so far, the underside wants doing along with hands ... I should have some lying around somewhere.

Bang on Shas!
The problem I'm having is I can't see just how the gun pivots horizontally, without turning the back end since it looks like the gunmount is fixed to the rest of the chassis, unless that's a screw on the left side.
Probably just me being pedantic.

The mount and the chassis are indeed one big construct.
Turning, or pivoting to change left or right for fire was an 8degree traverse, further would have required the entire thing to be moved, the track sections might have come into play. 203mm shells were pretty nasty and gave the Germans a hard time. The Germans named it "Stalin's Sledgehammer"

While not exactly like what you are referencing, could you not build a turntable to mount the gun on?
Doesn't even need to be powered, add a hand-crank.

I can't believe I missed the 8 degree traverse on the right side of wikipedia, I knew it must have been something like that.
Thanks for the pics shas! the tow vehicle link didn't quite work, but this is it right?
you would need something built on a tank chassis to tow such a huge lump!
@Dr H: That is what I was initially thinking as a fix. I don't think I've got enough room to do too much, the breech is huge on this thing and I'd like to keep its profile fairly low if I can, tell you what I'll make two mounts for the gun and see what works best. It would probably something closer to the Krieg earthshaker carriage. ... That would work quite well actually, so long a I can get it right, enough room for gearing etc, it would allow the gun to pivot for direct fire at a wide angle but indirect fire at a narrower angle, only problem I can see is recoil big and bulky... hydraulics. Hmm.
I've gotten started on the gun mount, the red cross marks where the axis of elevation would be
I may have over done it a little, because I have such a large space below for the breech to recoil into I should be able to lower the gun mount further and shorten it at the rear, its way too big.
I've got some pics for you all that I forgot to put up before now.
A while ago I was painting 3 chaos worshipers, I don't think I posted them 'finished' so here we are:
next my small Dark vengeance based CSM force
My nearly sold 1000pt (ish) Imperial fist force:
I'm trying to find a new method to paint heresy style Imperial fists, preferably with an airbrush to get the yellow right (without spending days with a brush), I'll be checking the new Vallejo game air range.
And lastly this is what my 1500 points Krieg (Genswick) armoured battlegroup looks like, the infantry are unfortunately just fodder to suck up 210 spare points.
In other news I had thought that the new FW solar auxillia might made for Genswick engineers, swap the lasguns for shotgun and done, squad of 10 means 2 squads of 5, nice ....
squads of 20 Goodnight sweet wallet. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!

I'm working on a template for an engine extension for the standard leman russ for everyone, which the trench rails would fit on to nicely, I've made blueprint for it so far, just deciding on a thickness of plasticard to work from.
@LDD: I put half a dozen up on ebay, sold out within a day! And that advisor is very creepy, in a bad 80's way. Main thing that bothers me about it is the silly long arms.

Hey Dakka,
Not much modelling in the time I've been away, most of my time has gone into casting these:
I've made 10 so far and have 20-30 more to make. Needless to say if anyone is interested in one or preferably several feel free to send me a PM.
Also I need to remake the molds for this since they are starting to suffer a little, and the resin is starting to attack the molds.
A little progress on the earthshaker. This is the rotating mount, the gun is held in with white tack. It needs more surface detailing on the sides, I might magnetise the gun mount some how and add a little more armour plating to provide cover to the crew.
Finally bothered to assemble a second turret for my ragnarocks and get started on the destroyer / thunderer variant.
If I ever manage to finish them.
@LDD: Good luck with the template.
@Big H: No way am I making those! A Ketten you say? I'm' already half way to having my towing vehicle built.
I already had these made so I just need to start building up from that.
Meanwhile It's time to brush some dust off my paintbrush and find where I put my green and grey paints.
Thank you.

The plasticard bits from here:
Almost a whole tank, minus doors, hatches, a floor...
