So a bit of a weird weekend, Little H was 12 today and asked to go the FLGS to get his birthday present from me , I expected Space Wolf characters or something and ended up with the WHFB starter box set because he now likes Skaven ! feth My Hobby Life !
Managed to get a "Leman Russ" stand in from eBay however !

Also , really wanted to get a different vibe from our Storm Wolf 40K force, Drop Pods seemed the way ahead as Little H complains about not getting across the table fast enough.
So with a bit of discussion at the FLGS and a look on youtube " Cup of Joe Drop Pods" we now have some tactic testers before we have to stump up £150 in GW Drop Pods !
5 of these should do for now !

JJJEEEZZZZ.... how have I managed to miss so much of this blog!??! Just had my lunch break trawling through the pages of gloriously weathered tanks / scratch builds and marines... all looking VERY nice I have to add!
The "Stug" is a beaut! Those side skirts and the area where the main gun is mounted to the hull are little favourite details for me!
And I cant wait to see those drop pods really come into their own from such a simple base. Very nice use of an everyday object!
Going to go back through in more details t check out those painting techniques.... but looking lovely!
Oh..... and that quad gun on the Pannzer IV is actually looking great to me.... I think the height works well... all it needs is some kind of sensor array or a satellite targeting system and jobs a winner for me.

I'm working the weekend , but the upside of that is I had today off and hobby'd myself to death.
More work on the Panzer 40's and LandRhino's

Progress tonight, chipping is 75% done on the Panzer40's and 50% done on the LandRhino's. I've been flitting about and doing other stuff when I get too bored.

The credit of the build goes to OneManNoodles, he did the basic stretch build I just hung the details on them !

Wonder what you guys think of the stylised Nurgle sun wheel ? Leave it black ? Add grey or silver so it looks scratched on ? or add white or possibly red to look painted on ?

Hey thanks Bebop ! I appreciate your comments. Still some way to go yet, more chip highlights and the oil filters / pin washes / rust streaks etc.
What do you think would look good on the Nurgle symbol ?

Post by: Dr H
The tanks are all looking good. I too liked the spaced armour on the turret enough to add it to my (one and only, so far) tank.
Nurgle symbol is nice. I think black is good, subtle and doesn't detract from the rest of the tank.

Thanks mate, I just combined a version of the Nurgle symbol with a stylised "swastika" sun wheel, fits nicely with my Zombie nazi Guard I think.
You know, Camo Eldar isn't a bad idea, some of those skimmers would look pretty sweet in military drab colours with maybe some red or orange spot colours !

Panzer 40's FINISHED, except perhaps for some dust on top of all the other weathering, but essentially done.
I love how these turned out , two great models that painted up more or less exactly as I planned, I should have bent and dinged the side armour a bit during construction to explain all those chips but too late now !

So , some of you die-hard Camo fans may remember the good old days when I got to paint Camo marines and overly chip and weather tanks.
Well its not happening anytime soon !
My boy has arranged a 40k game with his mate this week, no problem UNTIL when the play boards come out of the garage loft they have a good way been eaten by some hideous Skaven creature.
So I'll be mostly patching them up and setting lots of traps !
This weekend me and the boy played a Homebrew version of Warhammer 1st and 4th Editions on a Dungeon type quest to free some Dwarf miners from a Skaven invasion.
The adventurers cut down most of the Clan Rats but only the Ninja , Gimli and a Empire Lord survived to save the Dwarfs after a (proxy) Vermin Lord turned up !
The boy and me started his Vermin Lord proper too , it was a bribe instead of Easter eggs , he hasn't quite got his head around letting the glue dry and building it in stages to make it simpler to paint yet but I think he's slowly beginning to understand !
I've made a simple two part push mould for the head base so hopefully we can use all head options and will magnetise that and the arms hopefully.

Haha quite possibly , unless I have a proper dig about in the attic and make us both weep till we're 180 !
Mate , you need to sell some stuff on eBay and bring your average down!!!
Then you can buy more !
Yeah , the quad is off shape ways , it's a little small for what I wanted but I was too lazy to scratch build !
If I was to start marines I would go with a box of grey knights mixed with Anvil Black ops, that would be pretty cool.
Or just make one "true scale" squad from Tartaros terminators !

After a while of "buy and sell" it becomes a self funding hobby ..... Honest !
The quad isn't bad at all mounted on some plasticard shims and a 40mm base, its just I would have preferred a two man turret with a gunner and loader. I almost sawed it in half and shimmed it out but went for the easy option again !
The black ops range are really very good, with a few extra bits and some spare bodies ( which Joel will sell as extras if you ask nicely! ) you can customise for ever
28415
Post by: lone dirty dog
I was going to suggest cutting it in half but then continued to read on I know the feeling some times it easier to just go with the easier option
Yes I am sure I can bend Joel's arm although I think he is bit busy getting his kickstarter out to the pledgers at the moment, mind you I could use the delay to make him feel guilty
You got anymore traitor guard in the works ?

Amazing what a difference a head swap makes I still think the head on the standard is the best one in the set but they all look pretty cool
Interested to see how the the Storm Troopers turn out seems to be quite a list of parts, what about the torso though ?
As for the helmetless heads maybe some Gas masks might work well but keep the top half of the head exposed.
69676
Post by: Big H
Thanks for the feedback LDD !
The head does look good , they come on a sprue of 5 and they are all different , so unless I buy a million sprues they are all going to have a mixed appearance !
The torso for the stormtroopers will be the Cadian torso with a bit of greenstuff armour added to count as carapace .
Good idea with the helmet less head, I'll maybe see if i can't knock something up with the greenstuff roller i bought the other day !

I only ask as Maxmini has done this when customers had asked for particular heads from sets, I think these ones are from Kromlech and they usually are quite helpful so might be worth a try.

Yeah they are Kromlech, I'd not thought to ask, it might be an option to get some of the archaic respirator types for the standard guard and the more techno ones for the storm troopers, I'll need to work out how many I need !

Don't worry too much about the greenstuff cables they can be a real pain, especially to get the right thickness, if they seem a little thick try rolling them on a flat surface, just lightly, it'll take the edge off the peaks a bit and give a thinner feel.

Managed a little bit of work on the Stormtroopers Valkyrie, as I said it was a ebay rescue and whilst not bad there were a lot of poor joints and mould lines, and the paint job had visible brush marks in it, so this being a Nurgle traitor guard I Dremeled it a bit to create small pits, much lighter than on previous vehicles, and set to gluing on fine sand as rust and crud, I created some battle damage and will greenstuff some further details once its all dry.
It seemed easier that scraping all the mould lines off !

Thanks Noodles, I have to say I like the Anvil parts , they really look "right" to me. And as for my iphone5 i'm really not happy with it , so many things that it does/ does not do that it just stresses me out !
I got a fair bit done today, and relaxed me no end, nothing too special but i primed the Valkyrie , modelled its flight stand a bit, and made a good start on my version of a Basilisk. It still needs some armour shields and details but its well on its way !

Thanks mate !
I managed a quiet hour or two this morning and managed to add the green stuff power cables and blend in the power packs to the carapace armour. I made the cables last night with my green stuff roller and then squared then up with a couple of pieces of wet plasticard, greenstuff is surprisingly flexible even after its cured.
I got all 15 done so I'll be set for paint after a spell away at work.

I mostly did it by accident matey ! I rolled out some cables on the tentacle maker then squared them up by pressing on them , using some plasticard and a bit of spit !
I let them cure over night then superglued one end to the backpack, once the glue had hardened properly I then cut the cables roughly to length , another drop of superglue and hold it in place with tweezers till the glue set. The green stuff is quite bendy even after it has cured.
Simples !!!

I got my great Dakka buddy Nerdy to paint up some of the figures I had no time to paint, with a mind to using them as adventurers and such in mine and Little H's home brew skirmish / adventure game.
Little H is well chuffed , the hammer priests have come up really well , and we both love the Slann "frogman" , but little H's favourites are the dwarves , there is so much character in them and nerdy did a superb job on them.
Thanks Nerdy ! Saturday night games suddenly got painted !

Looking great as always Big H, even if they are upside down.
As far as the zombies for 40k or make a new army....I'm on the fence, has to be your choice. I don't play(or paint) as much as I used to, but I always seem to be filling my 40k collection with non 40k stuff just because I have THAT collection. I love all sorts of models, but want them to fit into my existing collection. So when I buy old warmachine models, I think how they'll fit into my 40k games. I think it is the horror of knowing that if I actually bought WWII models for WWII games, I would have to start a new system; which in turn would escalate my collector's addiction and I would have to buy more than the few squads that COULD fit into my 40k collection and take two or four whole new armies for another game system.
Ugh.
But that's just me.
Oh, unless it is stuff for Hero Quest or some other table top RPG.
But Marines fighting their way clear of a whole horde of zombie plague imperial guard WWII models....pretty cool.

Thanks for the comments guys, yeah the photo is apples fault , I don't know why it does that !
A game where a squad of marines have to get from one end of the table to the other , with only two turns of ammo left and unlimited nazi zombie guard could be fun !
Anyhow, varnish is dry , I like how I weathered these two , less rust but more grime !

Holy gak I see a flying rhinos have I been drinking no it's your iPhone
Apparently after a quick easy goggle search it has something to do with the way you take the picture using your apple device, it will show up correctly on any Apple device but when converted over to Windows it reverts the picture to the format of which it was taken something to do with the EXIF file being ignored or something. Apparently if you take picture with the volume buttons facing down on your phone it will take the pic the right way up, but if the volume buttons are facing up when you take the pic it will process them upside down there are some apps you can use to stop this but it slows your device down apparently.
Anyway hope that helps some as I have no idea as I have just read it myself, love the paint job great work and scheme as always, are you in the UK now ?

Another reason I dislike apple.
I was surprised how much extra height and bulk the legs gave, I added some plasticard spacers to the armpits and smoothed it to the chest armour with green stuff to "tru" the chest up but all the other bits are straight out the box without change, making it a very simple conversion to test the water, so to speak.
iPhones are weird, will have to start using a camera again.
The Sigmarine legs dwarf cataphracti or Tartaros legs tho, which where going to be my choice for the terminators.
Ideas short of tons of greenstuff anyone ?!?!

I understood from Joel page on Dakka he was going firework the Steam knight range , which isn't bad but would be awesome if the level of detail went up to the afterlife level.

nerdfest09 wrote:How long do we need to leave the cables to cure before we use them on a model without squashing the details? I'm probably a little too keen lol
Hey mate ! I leave the cables to cure completely or you will keep destroying the detail. Once it's cured it's still pretty bendy unless it's a really tight turn . Just glue one end in place with superglue, let it dry and then bend it around, glueing as you go. You can tidy up the end junctions afterwards with a bit more greenstuff to make a bracket or something.
Hope that helps !

Thanks mate, I don't like Guard much either, but if you convert them beyond what GW thinks they look like you can use them as bait for Marines !!!

Great job, amazing weathering!

Great job on the tank, Big H.
One thing, if you don't mind; the big red lamp could maybe do with some more depth, it looks too opaque to be a lens. Have a look for a "black gem/lens" tutorial (there is one on DDakka, but I can't find it) for an idea of what I mean.

Hi Doctor ! No , I don't mind at all mate, especially as you are right, one of my weakest points is painting lens , I'll go back and give it another go !

Thanks Dark Apostle , we have a box of stuff like this, stinking up the house !
nerdfest09 wrote:Much better on the lens! :-) and the pred is AWWWeeesooMMMMeee although the blue is a tad much on the lights :-)
Thanks Nerdy ! I had to really concentrate on the lens to get my eyes to focus, I really should wear the expensive glasses I bought !
The blue was a bit problematic, I was incredibly hung over and it was going all over the place so, ultimately I'm just glad I didn't end up with an ultra marines Pred !

Today was a beautiful day and I fully intended to tidy the garden and plant some potatoes.
Instead I mostly made some nurgle chaos warrior.
Base models are Avatars of war with GW and Scibor parts thrown in.

Perhaps, but it really works well with the yellow/brown/orange of the rest of the tank.

Thanks Nerdy ! I did a few googles searches to come up with the general idea, tho it's much simplified to an actual vehicle !
Dr H wrote:Dudes look nice and characterful. Tank is looking excellent.
Thanks Doc ! It's a tricky build of several parts but it seems to be going quite well !
And so , I had a spare hour or two today and did some tinkering , mending stuff and priming stuff up.
Also got a bit of plasticard work done for the counts as Basilisk . Ladies and gentlemen , I give you : a shell rack.
I'm excited.

I think it basically done save for a few details and maybe some light "nurgling" ie sand and dremel !
So , your thoughts people, leave as is or apply the sand and dremel technique I've used on some vehicles ?

Looks great. Nice idea with the shells and nice rack.
So long as it matches the tank it's going on you can sand and dremel as much as you want.

As if there wasn't enough stuff on the hobby table, my boy comes home from the FLGS with a second hand PINK stormtalon, it was a bit of a dog, visible joints, mold lines and sprue tags all over it. He wanted it for his game today so last night was a speed paint night.
Stealth grey is the new camouflage !

Thanks for stoping by and the comment Gits, it looks good but was all done real fast with the airbrush and Tamiya weathering powders!

Thanks nerdy, I have to admit , it was your prowess at speed painting that encouraged me to get it finished in one sitting !
And tonight I got a fair bit done with the airbrush again, good times.

thanks very much gentlemen, I must confess I hadn't considered the pods were going to be tricky, but as they were blue, and pre built from the fething FLGS again they are proving to be fiddly to get the angles right etc etc.

Being incredibly stress after a week of crapness, I needed some hobby release, not painting as I have toconcentrate at that.
Ever since I was a tiny kid building stuff has chilled me out.
I recently bought an eBay job lot that included that aweful Chaos Dreadnought thing , I decided to right it up a bit.

Definitely an improvement to the Helbrute, and that model in particular needs a hell of a lot of improvement: I changed nearly everything on it and still thought there could be more done.

I must've painted that one ages ago as its a black primer and I havn't used anything but white or zenithal for 4 or 5 years !

Absolutely agree Dr, still not overly happy with my version, I'm thinking some more greenstuff tubes and pipes and maybe some re-purposed tyrannid spikes breaking out of the armour?

Post by: Big H
So I had a surge of hobby interest and sculpted some more detail on the nurgle dreadnought .
I'm thinking it's looking pretty good and about down except for some grit glueing on.
Any one else with some ideas ?
