Trying to get geared up for more painting during this crisis so I finished off 1 Flapper and 1 Fantasy figure.

I went to use some new techniques on the Fantasy figure, but Reaper Bones white is just not up to the challenge. the details are too shallow. Reaper Bones Black is MUCH better. Therefore, I just reverted back to a simple block and Wash method.

Working hard on the pile of shame over here as well.

The goal is 30 models per month for 2020, I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Some good news for me, the past couple weeks have allowed me to focus on some outstanding models, including:

Legion - Stormtrooper specialists, Dewback, Crawler tank
Necron Lycheguard & Cryptarch (from Forgebane)

Unfortunately, they have been replaced with a box of Seraphon/Lizardman temple Guard, skinks, dactls and a Tyranid Red Terror.

For now, I keep staring at my Castellan knight and am trying to work up the courage to airbrush it (I’m new to airbrushing).

Ok so this doesn't sound good, but I bought a Command Squad and Devastator squad, butttt these are to make use of all the bits, with all the Devastator bits and my bits box I can make 4 Legion heavy support squads, and the Command Squad is a bits fest I can combine with all my Mk3's and 4's to make various heroes and unit upgrades, my kit bash mind has also noticed all the open hands and fists for the Devastator Sergeant so I might knock up a Despoiler squad that actually looks like its fighting in combat

It's not really removing things from the Pile Of Shame, but I got a bunch of stuff primed today. An Achillus Contemptor*, five Sagittarius Custodes**, 20 Daemonettes, a Seeker Chariot, and five Fallout Ghouls***.

Progress is progress right?

* - Kit bashed.
** - Also kit bashed.
*** - I'm not sure these count since they're a commision and therefore someone else's Pile Of Shame.

24 models in seven days would be impressive even if two of them weren't Repulsors.

Two whole days with no posts in the Pile of Shame thread? It won't even get bumped to the top by this post. Huh, Dakka Dakka apparently has a time-limit on adding a post by the same user to their previous post. Didn't know that.

Finished off another 5-man Intercessor group and a box of Fallout Ghouls. I've decided the Ghouls count since they're part of a Pile of Shame even of it's not my Pile of Shame, and I've seen that guy's basement. Pile of Shame doesn't do it justice, it's Hoarders: Burried Alive for nerds.

Confessing some sins. I am doing real bad with the not purchasing part. This spring I have just rolled into good buying opportunities on retro minis.

Got a large, luckily mostly well painted empire 90s army, which added 150ish painted minis and about 15 unpainted, then someone sold 30 gorkamorka diggas for cheap, so those just arrived in my mailbox. And today I bought another load of 90s empire minis, which was about 30 more minis.

At least the massive metal empire army I am now sitting on means I can sell of practically all my plastic empire minis. The diggas also look extremely easy to paint, being practically all skin.

Painting is moving along well on other stuff though.

Long time lurker, first time poster (to this thread).

I promised myself as part of my 2020 hobby resurrection year I would enter the Dakka Painting Challenge once the annual rotation kicked off in March, so the initial goal was one entry in each month from March for a total of 10.

I wanted to make sure there was a chance I could make a dent in my pile of shame before committing to this thread .

So far, I've managed to complete my first model for the year for the March round.
Spoiler:

I considered whether to exclude gifts, Kickstarters from previous years (delivered this year), but I guess it all adds to the pile in the end.

So, I have a more "fluid" set of goals, or levels of achievement as it were:
  • 1. Bought models: 0
  • 2. Bought plus gifts: 3
  • 3. Dakka Painting Challenge: 10 (minimum)
  • 4. Bought plus gifts plus other: 3 (this will jump up dramaticaly when my Limbo Kickstarter gets delivered )

  • Current status:
  • Unopened models: TBC
  • Unbuilt models: 2 + TBC
  • Built models: 1 + TBC
  • Completed models: 1

  • Currently beating level 1. Level 2 is "currently" easily within reach. Level 3 is the current goal for the year.

    Catchya,
    Arakasi

I only just caught up on my 10-per-month goal by doing up some gribblies. A quick get-out-of-jail-free project or two. I'm amassing a small plastic mountain mainly because I received stuff as gifts recently and some of them were completely unplanned. I'll ignore those as I concentrate on some proper projects.

The original version of the game from over a decade ago was blind purchase pre-paints, but died out when that whole industry went under after the housing crash. A couple years ago the game got relaunched as a resin hobby line with some really great improvements to the game and some excellent, if unpainted models.

They weren’t quite grey, but I finished up some 4th edition High Elf Archers and Repeater Bolt Thrower after what must be the best part of 20 years! That counts in the fight against the pile of shame right? They get me to 58 painted for the year with 13 bought, so nett 45 ain’t bad.

Some of you are getting through the stash at a good rate! GW closing production must surely be helping to limit the pile growth too.

Since I last posted, I've gone and bought more stuff - some of the latest Sisters wave, and bought into Adeptus Titanicus. The AT stuff was partly because I wanted to support my FLGS in the current difficult climate, but it never takes much excuse for me to buy models. So the shame pile is bigger than ever, even though I'm still steadily building and painting. One advantage though is that it means I've got plenty of stuff to be working on throughout this virus-related GW shutdown. I feel for the folks who don't have shame piles to work on!

I did a last run at both my FLGS last week, I think I bought some 15 paint pots and some 6 glues, was glad to see they implemented the remote order and pickup at the door policies.
I do not want Amazon to get all my purchases when I have good suppliers here.

I am VERY safe of not running out of stuff to do for a solid year before I get done with everything... here is hoping I can improve my painting speed and technique.
Build has never been slow for me and the pile of assembled and primed shame shows.

Polonius, good brave man: very easy to be overwhelmed seeing all that black prime.
I put mine in stack-able totes hoping to never see it all at once.
The only problem with them in that condition is it is incredibly hard to play with them... my eyes are not what they used to be.

I have a ton of old marines as Black Templar in various states of paint.
No, the black prime colour is not retained so it is easier, a "Payne's Grey" is used (Blue-Black).

The new Primaris Ultramarines are my focus if not painting big models.

80 for the year is a darn good number. I have to keep reminding myself that my numbers are only as high as they are because most people wouldn't consider my models properly finished since I'm not doing anything with the bases beyond a solid brown color and that wouldn't pass muster at a lot of tournaments.

Only managed to get 17 models painted this month taking my total for the year to 50. Which is half the number of models I painted last year! So I'm on pace to actually blow through a decent chunk of my pile!

Mine are the same at the moment. I’m out of basing materials and it feels wrong to get any delivered here risking people’s health. Once the world returns to normal I’ll get the stuff I need and get them done. Basing takes so little time compared to painting a model i’m not too concerned.

I've finished painting 2 Chaos Spawn today taking me to 82/0 (painted/bought) for the year. I've done my Spawn so far pretty much exclusively dry brushing them. They have so much texture on the flesh that works pretty well and lets you knock them out real quick.

I just thought about it. I haven't made much progress at all on my pile. I mean I have painted over 75 models in the last 3 weeks, but none of them mine.

    Spoiler:

Above: Collection Completed, Below: Still to finish
    Spoiler:

    Some close ups:
    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

I have been working on a commission that all began as a prime only job. I got stuck with the models as it became difficult to get to the owner due to current events. Since I had them, I was going to have them for quite some time and the owner didn't really want to paint them I took the commission to get them to a fair tabletop standard. I am almost done with it with only 8 models to go. The owner has more stuff for me to paint, but I told them I was going to need a break painting Death Guard (or anything with metal trim) for a while. So once I finish the last of what I have, I think I am going to back to painting my Primaris space marines. That should be a nice change of pace.

Even when I stop starting new armies, I am still painting new armies.

Batman and DC miniatures- 20 models, 5 of which are already half finished. I'm aiming to get most of this done over the next week as well so it's a realistic goal
Blood Bowl- New league starting up, and my Skaven team are almost entirely finished (15 model roster with 3 needing a fair bit of work, the other 12 nearly done)
Warcry- The starter set minus the Iron Golems, plus a Chimera and Gitz warband. Solid week of work will knock it over I just have to get around to it
Malifaux- The big one in terms of completing projects. I've got a lot of crews needing 5-6 models to finish and a couple completely unpainted, but by organising it to specific crews the job appears a lot more viable in a short amount of time
Star Wars Legion- got a bunch of Rebels to paint, they'll be fairly quick basecoat/wash/highlight jobs but there's a fair few to get through and I want to put effort into the basing which will take a while.
Lord of the Rings- about 1200 points of Easterlings in some stage of completion. I can get them done quickly but there's a lot to get through and I'm not motivated to batch paint in those numbers, and then there's the 50-odd orcs I have for allies

Almost a month on since my last update, thought I'd give it another. Noticed there are also a few smaller projects and bits and pieces I didn't even list here because I have no plans for them, but that is what it is and will likely eventually be painted or sold off.

Batman/DCU- First 12 finished, rest aren't planned any time soon. I also found 5 more not in that count which bumps it up a bit
Blood Bowl- They're done, scratch this off
Warcry- Untamed Beasts done, Chimera done. Terrain is next weekend's project
Malifaux- Couple keywords done, couple in progress. The next week or 2 should get my Outcasts almost all the way done with what I have planned
Legion- Finished Han, Chewbacca, a unit of Rebel Troopers and an AT-RT. Good progress that I'm happy with, and I'm continuing my momentum in between Malifaux projects. Wookiees up next
    LotR- no progress

I've got everything set to start laying paint and a wife who manages to find enough stuff to do that I will probably not dip a brush in for at least a week or so...

3 more CSM done today. Not a lot of Phoenician Purple left, so these in progress ones might be my last for a while. I’ll still be able to do Noise Marines however as they only share the same colour shoulderpads as the rest of the force and there’s enough paint left for the dozen or so NM’s I have built.

    A) If you consider that "fair table-top standard" I'd hate to see what you consider an actually good paint job. Also; stop making the rest of us look bad damn it!

    B) 75 models in three weeks?!? Stop making the rest of us look bad damn it!!!

Feel like I'm doing pretty well, battle brothers. Made my first purchase of 2020 - an old metal tyranid - at the start of this month, but otherwise have only been working on shrinking the grey horde. Obviously, I could be going faster, but I feel like the momentum is really starting to take hold!
Starting to make reasonable progress through my templars, and with a bit of luck now that the weather is good enough for priming, time to make real headway.

Helps a little that GW is in lockdown, obviously, and I suspect that we're in for another price hike when all this is over, which would decisively knock me out in terms of being willing to buy, so from here on out it's full speed to completed projects! Best of luck to the rest of ye!

Thanks for the compliment. I usually paint a model at least three times. Two thin coats and a clean-up coat. With these Death Guard I have only been going with one coat. I will admit the Death Guard stuff has been turning out really good. The one coat works really good on them as it helps make things look faded, worn or otherwise grimy. However, there are bits here and there where I have stray marks and bits that I missed (most notably tubing). To get those things, I would have taken at least 3 times longer to paint though, and the commission was just for 3 colors up plus simple basing.

The speed was done as I thought I could give these back to the owner in two weeks time which was the initial Stay-at-Home order duration. As the order became extended, I put a little extra detail, but not a whole lot more since it wasn't changing the price of the commission.

In the last couple of days, I have gone back to my stuff as I just have those Lords of Contagion and Typhus left but need a break from painting that scheme for a bit. I have finished painting all of my Intercessors (which was like two of them remaining) and Eliminators. Currently, I am put my GSC back on the painting station as they are the army in most need of work. I have some 30 Neophytes, 30 Acolytes, 15 Bikers, 2 Ridgerunners, 2 Trucks and a handful of characters that need finishing.

I figure I can work on them for a couple of weeks for something different before going back to the Death Guard commission. I certainly won't finish painting all that GSC stuff, but if I can get through most of the Neophytes and Acolytes, which already have coats 1 and 2, I will be pretty happy with my progress.

I have taken a small break from working on my Death Guard commission since I probably won't be able to get them back to the owner until May. I am currently making a dent in my GSC army.

    Spoiler:

The above spoiler is all the units I still have to finish. Which is quite a bit, and I know I won't finish in week or so I am taking a break from my commission. That said, the below spoiler are all the units I have finished in the last few days. Which does seem like a lot, but a good portion of them were painted for use in Kill Team and even more had most of the basic blocking already done as per my typical painting strategy. I wouldn't mind having all my Neophytes, Acolytes and Aberrants painting up before next weekend.

my work uses the princible of ABA and action/reward to get people motivated. So while im still fighting the pile of shame, i can still buy and reward myself.

I've found that I'm making negative progress. (unless you count priming)

    1) With no real time constraints & virtually no gaming I've got no reason to get anything done. At least when our AoS Path to Glory league was running each Fri. I'd try & show up with another two finished goblins/dwarves/etc every week. Now.... Monday, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat.... It feels like all the same long day.

    2) With nothing much better to do I'm rehabbing a bunch of goblin(& orc) figs that have built up over the years through buying of mixed lots etc. So every few days I'm actually adding to the pile as I hit EBay in order to bring units up to min. size - several wolves, several boars, a wolf mounted standard, a dozen forest goblin archers, several plastic archers/spearmen, a command squad for the orcs, etc.

The good news is that soon everything Orc/Goblin that's not already painted will be 100% primed. And have dedicated storage vs just tossed in a Steralite tub on a basement shelf.

I'm almost done with my terrain that I've been working on. Last night I was in a weird mood of wanting to cross something off my list but not wanting to be precise. So I just grabbed some contrast paints and some of Gloomspite Gitz and just started slapping whatever the primary color of that model was on there. At some point, I will go back and touch up where I fell outside the lines. The thought of doing that last night just made me feel sick for some reason.

I closed out the month with a block of six Fallout Synths.

This was a slow month both in terms of finished models (39 compared to my usual 45-50) and also in terms of project groups (8 compared to 10-13). I'm putting that down to quarantine driving everyone else in my house a little stir-crazy so I'm missing a lot of my evening painting sessions.

I also back-slid a little bit and ordered a single Knight Rampager to use with my Slannesh Daemons. Daemonettes are bad enough that I won't feel terrible about that particular blend of soup at 1000, unless Engine War manages to do something catastrophic to game balance.

Salvaged the paint job on my two Admech skimmers. I'm really happy as the red rattlecan had done a number on them and I thought I was going to have to strip and repaint.

Other than that though, my painting has slowed down this last month. It "feels" like I'm running out things to paint, even though I actually have a ton of things to tackle that aren't 40K models.

The Warhound project seems to have got my painter's block unstuck.
I have also noticed there is a fine line between intentional streaking and weathering and just looking like sloppy shading... I am unsure where I am with that model.

    Nearing the end, finally!

Have a crisis suit and the last of my vanguard in the middle of painting.

Next project is my last 'full' project - the last half dozen samurai for my test of honour army.

With the covid thing, I've been rummaging round, and have put together stuff that I don't necessarily consider a project per se, but is an interesting one - I'm calling it the 'rescue squad'. I have found a bunch of unpainted/un assembled models (some from ten years ago) that I've decided to mod, assemble and paint. It's an eclectic mix - 4 metal pathfinders, 6 kasrkin (no backpacks, or heads!) that require converting, and I think necromunda-ing, 4 mkiii/mkiv hybrid marines (assembled from the leftover scraps from burning prospero and betrayal at calth), 3 old metal space wolf scouts, 2 metal SM special weapon biker torsos that I have going to convert into regular marines with left over bits, 2 old metal cadian special weapon-ers and 3 imperial guard officers which are being converted. This will keep me going for a bit longer.

Thanks to April's Dakka Painting competition and a little lockdown in the UK, I was able to clear 7 Plague Marines, a Malignant Plaguecaster, Noxious Blightbringer, Poxwalkers, 20 Ork Boyz, 8 Nobz, 5 stormboyz, and 3 warbikerz off my pile of shame! Which also means I only have 3 unpainted chaos models and a big fat 0 unpainted Ork models in my collection!

Just gotta clear the space marines now - the Dark Vengeance set, a captain, a vanguard vet squad, 2 lieutenants, 6 terminators and touch up another few a bit. Plus 15 grey knights. I'd say that's not bad

Today I have painted a single Grell.
The Grell - one of my favorite D&D monsters. So imagine how happy I was to see WK release a new, very cool sculpt of it in their pre-primed line a few weeks back.

I can now say ALL OF MY MINIS ARE PAINTED!

IDK why, bit for some reason, a project that has been on the back burner for while makes me feel real good finishing, specifically my vulture. It feels so good finishing it. I cut some corners(Mostly, I decided for ease of my sanity, to do painted glass rather than paint the crew.
But all in all, its got me excited.
Even if i fail to get all my models painted before i buy new ones or take on some friends gak, it feels good to have so little on my head

I managed to finish off the terrain I have been working on. Now I just have to sit down and glue it together.

Then onto painting some more gloomspite gitz.

If I can finish painting all of my assembled but not painted models. Then I will consider this pandemic to be a success. lol.

I’ve finished painting 2 more minis and built 20 more today. That clears 3 boxes off the pile, 10 raptors built and then 10 Chaos Chosen made from CSM with some Raptor parts because Lightning Claws look cool and the Plasma squad may actually be useful.

The battle continues.... I will be selling off a bunch of necrons and Dark Eldar (Druchari as I guess they're called) that I never got around to using.... Might keep some of the characters as I love to paint them.

Gotten more details on some vehicles finished while getting almost all of my BT HQ repainted or painted for the first time.

    So, I'm kinda making progress.

I have only painted three minis so far this year, so my PoS has not appreciably shrunk, but I haven't bought anything at all so far, so neither has it grown at all.

Currently have sixteen minis primed, based and staring at me.

Eight Fallout Survivors, and those @$%# things were a whale scrotum sitting on my soul. I'm sooo glad to have them off my plate.

I also carefully cut five kit-bashed Primaris characters off 32mm bases and glued them onto 40mm bases so they stand out better. It's not modeling for advantage if they're supposed to be on a bigger base.

I never knew such a thing was possible? That has to be a record, we gamers tend to have an ever growing back log of projects.

During the lockdown I have had some free time to get back into painting. Roughly half way through my Kings of War Mongolian force,. Once that project is finished, I'll be 1 third the way through my current projects.

Well I sold a decent amount of items and really figured out what I wanted to keep, and had been furiously painting since January to get it all done.

Going to try very hard to stick to one box at a time method once I figure out what I want to get next!

Ya just gotta keep at it and try to stamp out the buying. It's hard, for sure!

Finished up my MonPoc backlog but decided I was a little light on Martians and shamefully added a bit more to the pile. In the meantime though I put in some significant work on my Malifaux backlog, getting the new Guild stuff done to keep that fully painted and having just a few models left to be done with the miners stuff (M&SU and Foundry).

I have a bad habit of burning myself out on Malifaux, so I'll probably take a bit of a break to do some Batman and perhaps finally catch up on my Guild Ball teams.

Well, I thinned out a bunch of minis. I then turned around and added one Untamed Beasts band, 2 Greater Daemons, 1 SC S2D and BoK box, 6 Varanguard, 7 BoK minis and a Darkoath Queen to convert Valkia.

Total: ~300 models out (18 metal fiends, 19 flesh hounds, Glottkin, 150 Space Marines, Vortex Beast, Heldrake, Forgefiend, Coteaz, Ral Partha mini, Aleguzler Gargant, Ghorgon, 60 WoC, furies, screamers, nurglings, Blightkings, Maggoth Lord and 6 Batman minis.

56 models in. And over a grand in sales.

Finished my first squad of five Seekers, starting to feel like I'm getting my groove back after that Fallout commission.

Honestly though, I'm probably not going to break 40 this month. And I definitely won't next month because The End is in sight. I have 18 models in progress and another 32 in the pipe (50 in total) although admittedly that includes a Keeper of Secrets, a Seeker Chariot, a Repulsor Executioner, and a Chaos Knight. If it wasn't for the CK I'd be pretty confident of finishing the whole pile before July 1st.

Fun aside; I found the Plague Marine half of the Know No Fear box hidden away in my closet. The moment I realized it added 17 models to my Pile of Shame it went straight up for sale on my local group's buy-n-sell page, and I sold it almost as fast as I realized I had it.

[edit] Sadly I spoke too soon. Probably still never going to paint those Plague Marines, but they'll be a black mark on my Pile-of-shame record until I figure out what to do with them. [/edit]

    Legit question.
How does one just, forget about models they own? and where they are?
I can tell you where every single unit i own is and its state of painting.
But i have friends that somehow lose models, like big FW models, then find them a year later.
how does that......happen? How do you just forget you have models?

Also, 3 more FW custode dreads crossed off the list.
Next up the terminators and Palas,
Then i have 2 knights, a fire raptor, reivers, shadowsun, for 40k
A bit more for SW legion but thats it!!!!

If you don't know, you don't own enough models.....

    A more serious answer though;
I used to get things in mixed lots, & trades that after I sifted out what I wanted I didn't have any immediate use for the rest. So it gets 1) inventoried, 2) sorted into storage containers - WHFB Orcs/Goblins, Eldar, misc SM stuff, 15mm WWII British tanks., etc 3) largely forgotten about*.
If I later use/trade/sell something out of the containers then I pull up the file & delete it.
I've still got about 7 such containers on the shelf in my basement.
Same thing happens sometimes when you're at shows/conventions/etc - you see something that's too good a deal to pass on but you've got no actual plans for (yet) (there's some sealed boxes of Necron vehicles in storage atm.

*So unless I look through the containers or pull up the inventory files? I couldn't tell you exactly what all's down there on the storage shelf. I can tell you I've not forgotten any Fw though.

My pile of shame has yet to be documented. So many unpainted models, the downside of playing Nids.

I also have about 20 models halfway done the painting process, I'm pretty sure that I should finish them before I start painting any more.

The worst part is that I am thinking of getting Dark Imperium and starting a death guard army. Must Resist!

I've just added to my pile, two eldar fire prisms and Eldrad to start my next project.

    5 primed death company marines {Done}
    10 primed/ shaded assault marines {Done}
    2 built/ unpainted tactical squads
    5 built/ unpainted bikes
    1 built/ unpainted baal predator
Weapons for an Angel Infernus minus the land raider so kinda pointless atm. Terminus Ultra has been repurposed
and is now an Angel Infurnus.
1 unbuilt Vindicator which is waiting for replacement parts and plasticard

And I still need moar vehicles but the prices now are insane.

I also have in the cabinet

4x ORB Necromunda gangs each with 10 to 14 mini's, Van Saar, Cawdor, Escher and Delaque.
    Metal Mad Donna
    Metal Kal jericho & Scabbs

And a Terminus ultra that I started and am now hung up on the triple las cannon on single sponson mod.

Got another 10 Daemonettes done yesterday. Working of Fiends, those are some annoyingly ornate models.

Sadly back-slid a bit on my Pile of Shame, I ordered the Space Marine Heros box and the Terminator Libby. I put a whole lot of work into a magnetized Captain kit-bash that I almost never use now because I don't like how it looks very much, and I pay CPs to deep-strike a Primaris Captain or Libby often enough to justify having the option to pay points for it.

Plus, I just like those models a fair bit.

I don't have a pile of shame when it comes to unpainted models.
I just don't buy so many models in one go that I can't get them painted. Having a low-paying job for too many years that didn't leave much excess for gaming stuff after food, rent and travel expenses saw to that.
By the time I was making enough that I *could* get more stuff, those spending habits were ingrained, and I blanch at spending more than $150 (AUD, so like about $35USD) in a single go.

I have a "shed of shame" where abandoned models and game systems go to die in ignominy, though. I stopped playing the games, but I kept the models (the models got me into the game because I liked the models. I can stop liking a game without hating the models).

    Neither do I, not really.
I have a hobby - gaming. And I have many many works-in-progress related to it.
As for the painting? I tend to paint slowly/as the whim strikes/when the stars align/there's some pressing need/or when really stressed out.
So if I waited to game until things were fully painted to play? I wouldn't have a hobby.

My current 3 week goblin project is is because of about 3/4 stress, 1/4 whim/star alignment/need

I appear to have experienced a serious setback:
I have received a "proxy" 3D printed Warlord Mars Pattern Titan... 40k scale.
I am in the process of getting hardware to ensure it all holds together (PLA+)

My work in process of 2 of each type of Armigers has come to a rather abrupt halt.
I was hoping to get to my primed only Baneblade and Shadowsword.

This is... going to take a while.
New forum posting of the build to come soon...

Same for me for the most part, or if I get enough models for a larger project I just paint on them until they are finished.

I never give up a model, because once it is painted I will find a use for it.... even if the game system for it is long dead.

This weekend I painted up 1 Phalanx of Bronze Shields in 6mm, but they still need to be based..... 5 more to go, and 2 elephant bases!

I REALLY need to attack the Warmachine backlog, which is definitely where most of the shame lies. 10 man units are just such a paint to churn through.

Next update, got a few more things done
    Blood Bowl- still done
Batman - doing the last few highlights on my League of Assassins stuff, after that it's starter set Batman and the BMG stuff is done, with DCU still languishing behind. That's only 7 models though so easy to get done at some stage
Warcry - Untamed Beasts, Chimera and Gitz are all painted. Beasts and Chimera need basing but that can wait. Terrain and Chaotic Beasts still need doing
Malifaux - I'm down to 2 unpainted keywords in Outcasts, and my Ten Thunders are only 6 models off being fully painted too. Very happy with my progress, will probably pick up a bit more soon to flesh out some of the smaller crews and finish full keywords rather than owned keywords (these are the 2 unpainted ones though)
Legion - Progress has stalled, but I've got 500 points painted. Just need to make the final push on the last 2 boxes and get them done
Lord of the Rings - Still haven't touched any of this and probably won't for a while.
Bolt Action - Added on cause it's been in the pile for a long time and nothing's been done to it. My gaming group are playing it but I'm finding motivation hard here.
The Other Side - I've got a full faction of King's Empire and none of it has any paint on it. I could get it painted but I'm not playing it so I see little point at this stage.
40k - Add this too because I'm going back and touching up old paintjobs/stripping and redoing where necessary. Making a lot of changes on things to prepare for the new edition and I'll probably buy more stuff at some stage once

I don't remember when I last posted. But I finished off some gloomspite gitz models, a bunch of necromunda terrain, primed some more terrain, and started working on some necromunda bounty hunters. Getting ready to work up my Goliath Gang for necromunda, and will probably be sliding backwards a bit with some new escher models when the new book drops.

Honestly, if I can keep up this pace, my backlog may be finished faster than expected. (Though that backlog is still months away).

I painted up a good chunk of my Ogor Kingdom models. I have 18 bulls painted up, 4 lead belchers, and a cannon. Just need to finish the 2 tyrants, a cannon, the 4 thunder tusk cavalry, and a stone horn. I have a butcher and slaughter master to assemble, prime, and paint next.

Other items in various states of painting: the Chaos Start Collecting box. The warriors are based and washed but need to be high lighted to complete. Same with the Karkadrak. The Knights need to be assembled and primed. That will top off my 5,000 points of Chaos (primarily Slaves to Darkness with some Beasts, Nurgle, Slaanesh, and Tzeentch). I also have assembled Zacharius on his Zombie Dragon. Just need to paint and base it. I've got some 4,000 points of Death now. Mainly Legions of Nagash.

40k wise, I finished up my Plague Marines, Blight Lords, and Death Shroud. I've got Mortarion, Typhus, and a Crawler to finish so I can call this force complete at 2,000 points. Mortarion is still in a box. I finished up another 10 man volkite squad for my Dark Angels and I have Asmodai, Belial, and a squad of Tartaros terminators to finish my Dark Angels which puts me at 3,000 points ish. I have 1 Space Wolf flyer, 1 terminator, and a Rune Smith in Power Armor to finish my 3,000 points of Wolves. The flyer is still in a box. My plan once these are done is to take inventory of my Eldar. I've these since 3rd edition and just want to finish them for the sake of finishing them since I know they can be fun . I did paint up 5 farseers (Saim Hann) and none were duplicates and 8 warlocks. This army has been built, primed, some painted, some base coated, etc. I'm staring at a Wraith Lord and 2 War Walkers that have base coats but I have 5 Wraith Guard and the Lord of War painted up. I also know I have 30 Dire Avengers and 60 Guardians painted. I have a bunch of OLD aspect warriors to paint up and an avatar too!

I agree with you on the Warmachine. Nobody paints their models for this game which makes me not want to paint my models. Painting models relaxes me. I just put on a witty tv show like Lost, Scrubs, or the Office and listen while I'm painting. I can do a movie that I've seen many times too (Lord of the Rings, Hobbit, Kingdom of Heaven, etc.) and just lose myself for an afternoon

My issue is more that I just have like... a thousand painted warmachine models as is. I've just gotten spoiled with all the games where I get to sit down, paint and finish one model and have something significant to add to my game that's unique to what I've painted before. Large units are just feeling repetitive these days.

I've made a good dent on my pile of shame this year, with a bit of help from the isolation!

My year goal was to paint my small Custodes forces, I though that was a perfectly reasonable goal and should be easy enough. I had a squad or two done when we were sent home and since I've managed to paint all the rest of them, minus a Pallas tank and 1 Venatari as I've ran out of primer! Looks like it'll be done very soon (going to buy primer soon-ish), so very happy about that!

But while out of primer, I still had many things already primed laying around, and with lots of time on my hand I tackled many random models and units!

I painted a unit of 10 Rubric Marines, 21 Tzaangor and a Maulerfiend for my TS! Rubric weren't that fun to do so while I have more primed and ready I don't feel like doing more for now

I also painted all my Start Collecting Eldar box which was pretty cool to do too. I bough more Eldar stuff (oop from ebay mostly) that will hopefully complete more-or-less my Iyanden force (along with a future second Start Collecting box).

Then with most things done, I did the few Tyranids I have left. I painted a Flyrant and 3 Tyrant Guards, and will probably work on some warriors next. I also build some gaunts to complete my devourer unit as well as order a few more to complete another unit that was not maxed out.

Along with building a few random items here and there (I'm strangely nearly out of things to build), I made good progress I think! Now I've bough a few things here and there on ebay and waiting on them, but since I practically completed my Custodes and what I have of Eldar, I'm pretty happy with that and not to ashamed to add more! When I get more primer though (probably this week) I'll have a whole new range of things to work on!

And my skitarii codex said they walked everywhere, which is why all their vehicles had legs and I converted a half dozen imperial guard vehicles with legs! I guess they don't only walk any more.

Forgive me, Dakka, for I have sinned.

My pile of shame, now cataloged, is enormous. Easily 1000+ minis to do, including boxed games and the like. Instead of despairing, I figure I'd set a goal in this thread for my year-end expectations for 2020. I intend to complete my Dark Angels and World Eaters forces by year's end. To be specific, I'd like to complete the following:

    DA:
    27 Devastators
    1 Leviathan
    1 Contemptor
    1 Land Raider
    2 Drop Pods
    10 Infiltrators
    3 Suppressors
    1 Deathwing Master
    3 Bikes
    1 Darkshroud
    20 Hellblasters
    Belial
    3 Company Veterans
    1 Apothecary
    1 Master
    1 Ancient
    1 DW Ancient
    1 DW Chaplain
    25 DW Terminators
    20 Intercissors

    WE:
    10 Havocs
    1 Exalted Champion
    5 Chosen
    11 Berzerkers
    5 Terminators

I think this is easily doable by year's end. Hopefully after that I can get to my Circle, or maybe my Legion.

Yea withdrawing because the enemy threatens to steal all your collected booty back at camp sounds like a Regiment of Renown!

That defines mercenary behavior, just like a good Dogs of War army should!

I finished painting up the last 6mm Elephants. Now, I just need to base about 8 units and the two Diadochi armies are done.

Once done I have the following left to paint:
    - 5 Gangsters- 28mm
    - 3 Fantasy Models- 28mm
    - 3 Martian Drones- 18mm

Then I am done with my pile of shame.

Just about done painting some of the forgeworld bounty hunters for Necromunda. Still gotta do the bases. but that shouldn't take very long next time I sit down. Then I'm gonna work on my goblins again. Next month I'm placing a large forgeworld order some Necromunda so I'm making my pile a little bit larger, but I feel justified because I'm actively playing Necromunda, and most of my backlog is 40k which I haven't played in over a year and AOS which I have played exactly once a year ago.

Wow, so many of you getting close to finishing your piles of shame! You’re making me feel guilty for eyeing up the new Blackstone Fortress stuff... must finish more first, but my last project took 6 weeks to do 7 minis! Still I’m 69 done for the year, with only 25 bought, so 44 nett. That’s pretty good for me! I need to do some large half finished units to get that count up!

My pile of shame continues to grow.

    I've finished my:
    Praetorians,
    metal Cadians,
    metal Catachans,
    metal Hive Tyrant,
scratch built turrets for my Leman Russ and my Chimera,
    2 "count as" mortars.

I've since stripped my Ratskins. They were ok and almost matched but not enough. I've stripped a dozen random Marines I'd undercoated black but now want white, I've stripped a Necromunda figure for my kid to do, my Arbites didn't work so I've stripped them back again again. Thinking about stripping my plastic Catachans. Bought some cool missiles for a WW. Busy building and converting a turret for that, my Evesor has been stripped for the 3rd time this month and I've recently brought my dad's WHFB stuff out of storage and want to finish up what he couldn't.

    Oh and then make terrain.

My first new models of the year arrived. I’m pretty happy to have got almost halfway through the year without anything, and having painted 150-200 models already this year.

Added to the pile of shame: 3x 5 CSM Raptors and 1x 10 Chaos Space Marines, which will become Chosen using spare bits from the Raptors.

I finished my last ten Daemonnettes this morning and eight Fallout Synths last night.

That means all I have to paint is a single Chaos Knight that I bought, assembled, and primed this week, which raises the philosophical question of where the line is drawn on actually having a Pile Of Shame in the first place. I don't know if the Knight counts.

    Automatically Appended Next Post:
...turns out I'm a liar, I bashed up a Giant Chaos Spawn a while back and completely forgot about it. Two models left on The Pile Of Shame.

On the plus side, someone else’s pile is lighter, so it’s not all bad... right? I’ll probably not keep them all, and it’s got me thinking I should eBay some of the minis that don’t inspire me. Now to overcome the nostalgia and get brutal with my pile.

Painted the entire thing over the last couple of days and R2 and C3po.
The entire army is done, including basing. Its really relieving.

Just thought I'd post some progress pictures. These are all the Dark Angels I've painted thus far for this year. It's an entire Battle Company, alongside a whole bunch of Devastator/Hellblasters from the 9th Support Company and Scouts/Infiltrators from the 10th. All were painted with GW paints, no airbrush, and using the old 2016 GW How to Paint Dark Vengeance tutorials on Warhammer TV. I'd call them "Parade Ready", but only in the loosest sense of the word; I am no Golden Demon painter, and these are basically just tabletop level jobs. It's some 182 models, and I have about 40-50 more Dark Angels left before my whole army is complete. The remainder are basically a single Leviathan dreadnought, 3 Drop Pods,

    Spoiler:

    Everything

However I have been kinda bad and bought 3 old Metal Chaos Knights off Ebay. But I will add them to my prep pile waiting to get done!

That was a brush with death.

Remember, you can’t die when you have models left to paint. Some say you die when you finish the last one. Best not to take the chance.

You want to have some workflow, but not a massive pile of shame. You can't let it run out though.

If that’s the case, I will live forever.

My pile of shame, some 30+ years old, has been fluctuating up and down this last year. I have made great strides on assembling and painting, but have been busy accumulating too. I don’t even bother to count my board game minis.

I have been keeping on top of keeping my Tau army painted, but just picked up a handful of 3rd party speeder bikes to assemble and paint.

On my stack to try and complete this year.

    Castellan and Armigers (Apocalypse set)
Admech Transports (2), Ambots, Onagers (2) and Ruststalkers
    Necrons from Forgebane
    Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons
    GSC Goliaths (2), Familiars (2)
Gates of Antares armies (to use as Gu’vessa for Tau)
    Stormcast from boxed starter(as Custodes)
Complete frigate, brigantine and troops for Blood & Plunder
Crossing my fingers I can get to my guest Eldar army by the end of the year. This is my goal for this year, still much more to tackle

The big thing for this year is to get over my fear of the new airbrush I bought and use it to help me power through some of my minis.

This year has been kind to me, as far as painting.

I have completed the following (and just had a week off to boot, which I spent painting!)

    X Castellan & Helverin Armigers
X Admech Transports (2), Ambots, One of the two Onagers & Rust Stalkers (last needs basing)
X Necrons from Forgebane (with 9E necrons coming to in a couple weeks...) [That's 12 warriors, 5 immortals, 5 lychguard, 3 wraiths and a cryptek]
    X Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons
X GSC familiars (the Goliaths still need painting)

Others from above are incomplete, though I have also painted:

X Dreamforge 1/100 Mortis (as a Grey Knight Dreadknight)

    X Tyranid Red Terror
    X Tyranid Maleceptor
    X Tyranid Haruspex
    X Tyranid Tyrant Guard x3
X Tyranid Brood Lord (old metal model from around 2E)
X Tyranid Spore Mines x8 (from the Battle for Macragge starter set)

    X Tau drone cycles
    X Tau spotter
    X Tau Crisis suit weapons

X Ork Waaghen (scratchbuilt/converted chevy truck)

    X 20 German Heer infantry
    X 20 US infantry
    X Calliope Sherman tank
    X Pak 40
    X Pak 38
    X M4 Half Track

X Warpath Enforcer Interceptor (painted as Tau flyer)

X A dozen or two D&D minis, including many characters, beholders, an efreeti and a kraken.

To Do, on the paint table:

    Admech Onager

    Sdkfz 251 Stummel
    Sdkfz 251 Aus C
    Hertzer
    88mm Flak

    15 Saurus Temple Guard
    20 Skink
    5 Saurus Riders
    3 Raptor riders
    Engine of the Gods

After that, my youngest son has been pleading with me to get to his orks, though I'm not really eager to start those.

Still a lot more to go - though I've almost burned through all my 40K and it's now Fantasy and other long-forgotten war games I'm looking at.

Update for a few more things
Batman - It's done! DCU included, everything is finished unless I find more lying around in the backs of cupboards
Malifaux - Still in progress, but I've got the last things for my Outcasts on the table and 1-2 days off finished (the entire faction!) and diving into getting my Bayou finished in the next week or so as well. For something that started the year as such a huge hurdle of random schemes there's a light now at the end. I'm going to call this done when my Outcasts, Ten Thunders and Bayou are finished because it's only one more crew otherwise, and I have no immediate plans for it anyway.
Warcry/Malifaux/Bushido - I've left a lot of things painted but not based over the last few months. Once the current lot is cleared off my desk, and with it completing the factions for all 3 of these games, I'm going to be doing a few big batches of basing to get them finally finished and table ready
Legion - It came out onto the desk, then got put away again in favour of other things. It's still on my mind though so will definitely happen soon

I'm caught up on the birthday backslide just in time for Indomitus to throw another lump on the pile. I finished up my Batman stuff except the stuff I'm likely to sell and working on Infinity right now, hoping to have all of Tunguska and Corregidor done soon. Finishing up a bit of Guild Ball and Malifaux Guild in there, then it'll probably be time to get the Deathwatch ready for 9th.

My Malifaux Guild is back to complete. Only one unreleased model from M3E to get in October, plus whatever new stuff is coming. Need to finish up some Infinity as well before Defiance throws a new army worth of Shesvasti on my paint table.

Currently though, I'm painting all my Guild Ball stuff before it gets retired. Masons and Union are done. Finally picked up the Cooks (awful models) to complete my Butchers. Also need to paint a couple Alchemists for a friend doing the same.

Okay, I want to kinda brag a little bit. I mean I am not the greatest painter, but I think I do okay and what I lack in quality I have been making up in quantity. Way back in June I finished my Death Guard Commission. It turned out pretty good for what was supposed to be a speed painting 3+ colors up job. Since I was painting Death Guard, I decided I might as well paint up mine too.

    Spoiler:

Most of the Death Guard Commission. There was also a Rhino, blight hauler, and Blight Spawn. I want to say I painted more poxwalkers (there should be 80 as part of the commission) and whatever came in the Dark Imperium set that matches 80 poxwalkers that isn't pictured). The commission was broken into 3 parts so I can exactly remember how much actually painted anymore.

    Spoiler:

My Death Guard Kill Team. I ran out of gumption when it came to my five Plague Terminators or whatever they are called. So they still need work.

    Spoiler:

Some of the GSC I have painted. Ignore the Guardsmen in the back. They were filler until the Neophytes were painted. All told I have 60 Neophytes, 30 Acolytes (with 10 more to go) painted. I am hoping by end of this weekend to have all them done.

    Spoiler:

Only about half the terminators in the photo were painted this year. The other half were painted a long while ago.

I also painted up 16 Unmade and the Iron Golems, Raptoryx and Untamed Beasts of the Warcry Starter. About 50 Primaris space marines (though I still have a lot of the Indomitus box to go). About 20 of the new Chaos Space Marines. 10 Tau Fire Warriors for a friend of mine's kill team. Probably a little bit more, but only a bit here and there.

I still have a lot of stuff that needs finishing, but I am starting to make up ground again. I have been trying to clear out a lot getting it to 'Battle-Ready' level at least. Mostly as I think that is a pretty good goal to have to field an army, but also I plan on starting a Lumineth Realm Lords army. I don't want to have this huge pile, well as huge, of unfinished miniatures. I probably could have finished painting my Primaris, but given that more stuff is coming I want to add it didn't seem worth pushing burn out over.

Right now I am kinda hoping I can get through the non-character infantry part of my Genestealer Cult and maybe even my bikers before I start work on the Lumineth. Which has kept me stoked about the pointy elves and battle cattle coming out, but fatigued as I can always use more time to get what I want done.

But yeah, I have been doing some painting this year.

I've run into a problem. I have far more SM torsos than I do legs.

How did that happen? While my older kits have been in their sprues in bits boxes I haven't kept them all in order so I'm not suprised I've got more, but so many? I've easily got over a dozen more torsos than legs.

My pile of shame can't really be lowered until I find more legs.

Sounds about right, though you should also have extra front chest pieces. (particularly one of the assault marine kits in years past had alternate frontpieces with thick straps.

A couple kits had extra torsos, but some of it would be from vehicle sprues. The hatch gunners for stormbolters and whatever have full arms and torsos, but often just an attachment point to the top of a waist set inside the hatch piece.

This thread continues to inspire. After giving in to temptation and buying the Indomitus box, the quality of those minis really shows up the old style marines. So I did what I thought I would never do, hardened my heart and sold 22 boxes of mini-marines (some of which I’ve had for well over a decade).

Happily, the insane prices here in NZ meant I’ve made enough $$$ to keep me in new minis for a few years!

Wasnt too bothered about Shephards but figured getting the play up to Farmers ones as singles was going to be a faff in the future so added the whole team to the backlog

Also painted a metal Wraithlord (purchased I think from my local FLGS on closing week over a decade ago)

I finished up all my gangsters, fantasy models, and All Quiet on the Martian Front models.

Rather than appreciate my progress, I picked up some Legion Rebels to add to the pile for no good reason. Digging myself out of that mistake and otherwise treaded water by buying and then immediately painting the new MonPoc and Marvel stuff.

July I painted up 30 Dryads. But nothing painted recently (Aug/Sept). I think painting 320some goblins in a month burned me out .

I AM assembling & priming a great # of misc. models (GW & otherwise).

Congratulations on killing the Pile of Shame, long live the Pile of Shame!

I did the same thing, finished my last model back in June and then almost immediately added all the Indominus marines and a Terminator Chaplain to the pile. On top of that I traded the Indominus Necrons and took on some commission work for a couple of Slannesh boxes and pile of 'Nids (and bought some more on top...), so my Pile of Shame includes a Hive Tyrant, 30 Hormagaunts, 30 Termagaunts, 7 Genestealers, 6 Tyranid Warriors, 2 Pyrovores, 8 Spore Mines, 3 Hive Guard, a Lictor, an Exocrine, 10 Ripper Swarms and 3 Ravengers, 5 Assault Intercessors, the Indominus Captain, Lieutenant, and Ancient, 3 Blade Guard, 3 Eradicators, 5 Steeds of Slannesh and a Soul Grinder.

Since my last post I've finished the Indominus Chaplain and Judicar, 5 Assault Intercessors, 3 Outriders, 8 normal Marine Bikes, a Marine Captain on a bike, 7 french peasants and a cart, 8 TSR space worms from Star Frontier, 10 Gargoyles, 4 Fallout lab tech guys, 4 Fallout Minutemen, a couple of crab monsters, 7 garbage zone terrain pieces, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Jeeze, that's 62 models in two and a half months. That's pretty slow for me.

So here’s the problem I’ve had following threads like this.

I’ve gotten a bit of motivation and enjoyed watching people progress, thus painted a bit more myself from time to time.

Then I’ve seenthings, and it’s made me buy a lot more myself..
    The pile is growing

Ah don't feel too bad. Lockout helped prevent me from dropping lots of money on stuff but now that its been lifted I have ended up buying a bunch and adding to my pile as well. Luckily I was able to also organize my pile in such a way as I atleast feel I have control over it.

In other news, weather is getting colder so I have been able to get to some painting done. Hopefully I'll get back into a groove and knock out all the stuff I had prepped over the summer.

    Fighting the pile of shame...

For my Death Guard, I commissioned an amazing painter to paint up Mortarion. I've got some final touches on 20 plague marines, 5 terminators, and 3 Death Shroud. Then I have to finish 2 Hellbrutes, 2 crawlers, and a drone. Otherwise, I completed 40 cultists, 14 marines, 28 walkers, Typhus, the bell dude, 2 hose guys, Nurgle's butterfly dude with grenades, and a captain. I still need to purchase a Prince, another carrier, 2 haulers, a unit of HTH marines, and another box of terminators. Then my army will be more or less complete.

For my Ogors, I just need to paint some tattoos on them. The Mournfang need to have a second highlight on their skin. Their pile of shame consists of a Butcher (assembled), slaughter master (unassembled), frost lord on stone horn (unassembled), and a second tyrant (assembled). I need 3 more start collecting boxes since it's almost the same price as a stone horn. I need to buy more cats/ fenrisian wolves.

For my Slaves to Darkness, I found some Tzeentch banners (Finecast) on the cheap so now I need to add them and paint them up. I've got to finish my current units though too - 3 double weapon warriors, 10 chosen, 10 warriors with shields (new box), 5 Knights (new box), the krakadraka (need to finish the details), a unit of the Slaanesh mortals on steeds, and a couple of marauders on horseback. I base coated the mutalith and now have about 5,000 points of stuff

For my Legions of Nagash, I have just Zacharius left to paint. 4,000 points of undead... I have 1 box of OBR from the Ogor vs OBR box. Not sure if I want to keep them. May go to my brother if he wants them

For my Astra Millitarum, I found a blister pack of the advisors so I have 3 models. For my Space Wolves, my mom the found the 1988(?) Leman Russ model when she cleaned out some boxes in the atic. There were also 4 servitors (newer ones). I've also got an indomitus box. My Crohn's flared up REALLY bad in late July/ early August. So little was accomplished - just assembly on the space marines. Not sure if my brother wants the Necrons. He will get first dibs on them if he wants them. I may paint them and let him play them. Really up to him if he wants to expand them.

Well to begin fighting the pile, I did catalogue all the miniature related things I have.
Now it’s easier to see how much I still have to do

I did spend much of last year selling off three or four armies and lots of random bits.
So it got a bit smaller and some cash was made too.

Finished a Crystal Peaks Camp terrain crate from Mantic (on commission) and my Blade Guard.

I also roughed out a couple each of factory buildings, ruins, woods, several river/pond sections, and a variety of storage silos, but thats all just spare boxes, Solo/Dixie cups, and spray paint so it barely counts.

Next update, got a few more things done

Batman/Bushido - still done. Haven't bought anything new but it's all finished
Malifaux - working on it, now have my Outcasts all but finished (6/8 keywords entirely, number 7 needing basing and the rest in some stage of paint. Ten Thunders and Bayou in the same state but I'm knocking over most of what's left over the last few weeks so should be able to tick it off by the end of the year (despite buying 2 entire new keywords over the last 2 months)
Legion - I got given a clone army and my Rebels still aren't finished... One day

I'm having a very quiet night shift and I've been reading through this thread. During December I'm going to make a full list of my pile of shame and I'll post it. Since march I've nearly doubled my painted army (nearly 3000pts now). I'm aiming for 1 unit a month and I'll try and keep that up next year.

I plan to not buy anything until the new codex is out (AdMech) but I only really need flyers as I have everything else.

I've only purchased Fabius and Eltharion since November of last year. I've also been participating in a monthly painting pledge challenge which has greatly diminished the pile.

I still have years of miniatures to go but plan to continue chipping away at it and not adding any more to the pile until at least the end is in sight.

Having said all that I will note that my attitude towards it has completely shifted since the Pandemic began. Having a smorgasbord of hobbying available at no cost has been a godsend and I now treat it as the Pile of Opportunity!

Would like the unit to be finished by the end of next week so I can proceed with the next regiment, and a commander, so they can be fielded as a brigade in Black Powder.

Ended up trying a completely different painting philosophy (painting 'inside out' and starting with faces and hair, instead of starting on the largest areas and working down to faces etc).

Spent the last two evenings basecoating, washing and highlighting the faces and hair of my 20 Ghepsmark Regulars. Hopefully will make a start contrast painting the tunics tonight before joining in One Page Rules' biannual Game Jam.

I made this change a few years ago and it is much easier.

My Pile of Shame was down to 0, so I started building my 2021 Pile of Shame by ordering an army of Republican Romans and an Army of Vikings from Victrix. That should keep me busy for a bit!

Yeah, its a bit slower going for me, but it also means I can actually try my best with painting base, wash and highlight. It's a little embarrassing to admit, but this is the first time in my (nearly 20 year long) hobby life that I have attempted highlights - I have always been afraid of ruining them.

The faces, hands and facial hair has now all been done to a satisfactory standard, and the bits of the model that are being contrasted have been tidied up. Tonight, I will most likely paint the hats and muskets.

    Excellent work!

I'm kind of treading water at the moment. Made a few purchases, painted them up rather than add them to the pile. Working on my Deathwatch right now and while a lot of it is new stuff (Vanguard Marines) and relatively new stuff (Indomitus) I've just about finished the last set of Firstborn in my unpainted pile. Had I gone with my gut and just sold the Assault Marines rather than convert up their shoulders I'd probably be in range to have Deathwatch 100% done.

Also got another batch of ASoIaF stuff to paint. Should be it until Targaryen's get their releases. Still keeping up with MCP. The other thing that has me losing ground is buying the Lantern sets from Knight. I'll probably never play them but the Sinestro Corps War is probably my all time favorite comic arc. Still need to double down on clearing the backlog though. I feel its sliding the wrong way ever so slowly.

I buckled down around the time the pandemic started and made myself a Trello Board to keep track of all my projects and their progress.

    Currently, my boards sit at:

"3D Printer Projects" (this is the stuff that is waiting to 3D printed): 3 projects
"In the Closet" (this is the stuff that is new in the box): 31 Projects
"Salvage" (Stuff that was built and maybe painted but then broke or was abandoned): 7 Projects
    "Build in Progress": 5 Projects
    "Ready to Paint": 6 Projects
    "Paint in Progress": 3 Projects
    "Done": 22 Projects

22 Projects doesn't seem like a lot. but I count a "box" as a project more or less. So like a battleforce box would be considered 1 project. In terms of actual numbers. Since I started tracking in march I have painted:
    A full table of terrain
    The Blackstone Fortress Minis
    around 65-ish individual models.

I am very hopeful that in 2021 I will be able to take this backlog down to zero

In the closing days of 2020, I found some unpainted Battletech Mechs from the old 25th Anniversary Boxed set. I had painted the other mechs about 4-5 years ago, so trying to match the paint schemes for paints I no longer had was a bit of a challenge....

I have no idea about anything Battletech related beyond the basic lore books in the Anniversary box that I skimmed. Therefore, these are definitely for various Merc units and not any canon faction from BT. I wouldn't even know where to start on those!

Maybe in 2021, I will actually give the game a shot. I doubt it, but who knows.

My last update was in April . I thought I would keep track of unopened models, unbuilt models, built models etc - but in the end I think a simple models in vs models out will suffice. Okay, with a "small" bit of differentiation in model sizes .

I completed 19 models this year, consisting of 18 regular and 1 monster.
    Spoiler:

I bought 15 models this year, consisting of 11 regular, 3 cavalry and 1 vehicle.

    My goals were:
  • Complete more than I add.
  • Complete a minimum of 10 models.

  • I'm counting this year a minor success.

    See you next year!

Bought 2 painted 113 including 5 large centerpiece models. Very happy with that and have plenty to still work on.

Will keep to very limited purchases this coming year. both my purchases were great updates to characters I like.

I have only recently come back into the hobby over the last few months, but already have a sizable pile of miniatures.

Most of these miniatures have been donated or sold as cheap bulk lots. Most of it in terrible condition. Quite a lot of it well outside of my interest at the moment.

The plan is for 2021,go through it trying to identify what is there. Clean up what I can, Sell on or swap on what is not needed and just get back to what I like the look of.

Space is a bit of a premium where I live so I would rather have a few models I like then boxes of miniatures.

Then again I find it extremely hard to say no.

What with work and family life, Motivation will be my worse enemy here.

    Final update for 2020:

Since the beginning of October when I last posted I've finished the Indominus Captain, Lieutenant, and Ancient, a Biovore and seven Spore Mines, eleven Fallout Super Mutants, six objective markers, a Terrain Crate Industrial Zone (which the buyer wanted modular so it was actually 84 separate pieces, that was having my soul pulled out through my paint brush), The Red Terror, a Lictor, ten Termagaunts, and a Soul Grinder.

I regret falling off the thread, it was good to have the constant motivation to keep putting paintbrush to model and I look forward to Fighting the Pile of Shame 2021.

I posted in this thread this time last year.

I was thinking about this myself recently, so I'll join in. My plan is to complete at least one model per month. This might seem like setting the bar awfully low, but the models could be anything from tiny Reaper miniatures to full 1:144 kits.

I didn't contribute further because my progress was slight. However, whilst I didn't actually complete a model in each calendar month, averaged out over the year I did meet my goal.

(Of course, with purchases taken into account, the pile remains as large as ever. )

Fighting the pile of backlog is easier than before since GW has problems with delivery to the EU atm.

    My pile includes:

Necrons (60 Warriors, several characters, Skorpekhs and whatnot)
    Eldar support batteries.
