Here is the standard bearer.
And here is one of the ORIGINAL Marines I painted. They all kind of looked like that and as i started to get better at painting and went "Those Exorcists are really bothering me" It screams to much wash!

Love the blue you've got going there. The only things you could improve on is the white tabbard on the SB, You could add a wash to it and probably paint it a little darker. You can also see the decal on the standard, you can try getting some microsol and varnish which would help get rid of the shine.

Update.
Here is a Tau I am doing as a commission. The person really did not know how to paint and did not strip them between the 4 of 5 COATS OF PAINT he slopped on.
It kind of ruined the model a little bit. I hope I did a good job painting it after all of that.
Here is a TAC Marine. I was trying out using wine bottle cork for the bases. I am going to be picking up some really nice cork when I get to the store tommorow. Tell me what you think.
I am working on my Termi Sergeant. What do you think of the face? Just want to know if I got it right.
Please reply to the blog as I know you would want you blog posted in.
50028
Post by: leohart
His face looks awesome.. You might want to change out his gears a bit since all AoBR termies look the same.
47729
Post by: HONAW
Gears? Do you mean the sections between the armor pieces?
40490
Post by: HAZZER
Very well done!I would personally strip the modle with nail varnis remover tbh but its your call!I like the sarge the resseses are supurb man!

Do things like change the arm, change the thing on top of him to a banner, ... Add more flares.
47729
Post by: HONAW
Ahhhhh, I see! You've got it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is how I base with cork. I use really cheap craft paints that my family has had for years. First just paint it with whatever color you decided. I used a brown with a little red in it.
Then coat whatever you want dirt on with tacky glue.
Let dry.......... Then I paint over the dirt with the same color and when dry....... I washed with Badab Black.
The final step consisted with drybrushing a bleached bone equivalent and also highlight too.

Hey,
I went to the craft store yesterday and picked up a few items.
I got some dullcoat lacquer and tried it on a model I actually don't like the way it came out as it added a texture to the armor plates and made it look not that great.
Then I went to another store and picked up some craft sand for $2.00...... not a bad deal for 2 lb!
Then I proceeded to the local hobby shop......not gaming store. Imperial Renegade found one that is near us which I very happy about. It is good to support local business.
Anyway, I bought a misc. WWII kit to decorate the bases with.
Some of them I cant use because the Dakka population will scream......"THOSE ARN'T 40K!"

Does anyone know if Citadel paints cure over time? I tried to stratch one of my older models and it did not stratch. WE ARE AT 41 POSTS! Now beyond 40K!
40377
Post by: Imperial Renegade
I think it does, because when I use my blood red and Grechin Green, It does not come of as easilly as valleho paints. I think your right. My reson for painting my space wolves with citidel paints.
48594
Post by: dsteingass
Vallejo are generally thinner than GW paints, it's all about how thick your paint is coated on, rather than the manufacturer. Brand Name means nothing really, all acrylics made for us hobbyists are essentially the same, only varying quantity/quality of pigments and binders. The acrylic polymer is what is left after the water evaporates. A good clear coat will seal anything in.
50028
Post by: leohart
@Honaw: On all models that I primed with GW primer (no idea about other primers), it takes a sharp edge to scratch off paints.
47729
Post by: HONAW
Ahhh.... I am using testors model master grey primer.
48594
Post by: dsteingass
I use Armory spray primer, but keep in mind, any spray paint is affected by the temperature and the amount of humidity in the air when you spray it. Even my beloved Armory primer can get thick and textur-y on humid days. My FW Marauder Destroyer was unfortunately victim to this hated phenomenon.

Great work on the Command Squad Veteran Sergeant, he looks really nice. I can't say I'm a fan of the backpack being left black but that really does come down to personal taste. I'd say If you are leaving it black you should at least highlight it, as it's looking rather flat at the moment. Nitpicking aside he is an awesome mini and you should be proud!
47729
Post by: HONAW
I always have trouble highlighting black. I will have to try highlighting with chainmail silver. I wish it was not in the scheme for Salamanders.
40377
Post by: Imperial Renegade
You'l get it right!.............................Eventually!
48594
Post by: dsteingass
To highlight black, you used to have to mix black and grey to get a very dark grey, now GW has Charadon Granite and Vallejo has grey-black- these are wonderful for highlighting black.
35565
Post by: Sentinel
I disagree. The dark highlights are less striking. I would reccomend a lighter gray, like adeptus battlegrey or even codex grey on the really hard edges. Black is tough; the highlights have to be extremely thin.

Orks can be one of the cheapest armies to make. One of the most effective strategies for or armies is to just swamp you opponent with boyz. Thanks to AoBR you can amass a green hoard cheaply. Try saving up $50 and then making a an offer on Dakka swap shop for a lot of boys.
The best part however is that orks are quite possibly the cheapest army to make vehicle and terrain for. I buy broken 40k vehicles for a third to a fifth of shelf cost and then make it orky, or I buy cheap toys for $1 to $5 and then turn them orky. The swap shop and eBay will become your new shops because you will mostly just need bulk packages of tank bits. Ask your friends if they have any model cars that they will never finish. The engines and gubins are perfect for conversions. When ever you find your self in a second hand store always cruise the toy sections. You can find tanks truck and wind up toys to dismantle for light cheap gears.

Hey!
Sorry for the long wait! I was in Washington DC for the March for Life! Okay, I just got a lot of Space Marines from a friend for a very good deal. Here is what I got.
1 Tac Squad
1 Combat Squad
1 Scout squad
1 Assault Squad
1 Captain
2 Landspeeders
1 Dev Squad ( Imperial Renegade......you had better tremble)
1 Vindicator
1 Rhino
This more then doubles my forces strength to 2245. So now I have a pretty competitive force now!
Here are some pictures of a few of them, Including my first ever paint job that got me into 40k.
Also, I have Assault on Black Reach Termis, and as most people know they only come with Storm bolters. So I Decided to mod one to have a Heavy flamer. It needs some green stuff!

lookin good man! If you blend the eyes it would really make them nice! WHERE DID YOU GET THE SHOULDER PAD ON THE POWER FIST MARINE!!!!! I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!! I see you have taken to doing what I do with the helmet rebreather. Paint it silver and heavily wash it so that you dont have to highlight it.

Ah yes, quite simpel and effective HONAW.
The shoulder pad i used came with the GK marines box(the other one with a book on it has taken place on a Wolf Knight you can see in my previous image(the one with the hammer))
Diz one masta!

My mind just kept going back to those badly molded arms on my devestators.....so I clipped those arms off of those guns and redid the arms with regular arms and shoulder pads. They have a better look to. Notice the plasma devestator doing a dance move!

HONAW invited me to join his blog as i have space marines too and my own blog was not going too well so here i am!
Being lazy and copy-pasted a bit of my introduction from my own blog:
''Hi, im Wolf_Ov_The_Void(nickname Solid & real name Paulo)
I'm a new member here and i've done a lil' introduction in my ''new member topic''
I have a backlog of over 200 of models and stuff so here goes a little of my backlog that i know of:
Warhammer 40k:
Space Wolves:
Lupus(selfmade HQ for apoc)
Njal Stormcaller
Logan Grimnar, High king of fenris
2nd edition space wolf techpriest
Dreadnought
Dreadnought
5 Wolf scouts
+/- 25 Blood Claws
+/- 20 Grey Hunters
8 Skyclaws
10 Wolf Guard Terminators
3 Lone wolves
Landraider Crusader
Predator
Predator(1st edition stripped and fixed)
Rhino
8 Wolf Knights(elite SW for apoc)
^All here only needs painting^
Landspeeder(assembled)
Chaos Marines:
Selfmade obliterator(Idea stolen from Nite_Owl, busy with greenstuffin')
A bunch of Chaos space marines(regular, berserkers and some 1ksons) from a friend of mine who quit 40k and gave me some marines (they took a dettol bath and i am building/fixing em atm)
Personalized Projects:
Some other marines that are getting converted/a custom paintjob.
Golden marine(a regular space marine with the silver/sepia wash color scheme of GW)
Hello Marine ( a hello kitty space marine for my girlfriend, almost done)
4 Ork boyz, always wanted to paint some orks, bought a box of 4 of em'and i'm painting those atm. ''
47729
Post by: HONAW
Nice SW force you have. I cant wait to see them! I must say Orks are great for getting away from the stale Imperium for awhile painting wise! What does that 2nd edition Tech priest look like? I always love to see old edition to see how far they have come!

@ Imperial Renegade
Your Space Wolves look cool!
Personally i hate the blue-ish colour GW has given them and i basecoat them with Adeptus Battlegrey and then i do this(basic marine):
1. Paint left shoulderpad Iyanden Darksun.
2. Paint right shoulderpad Mechrite Red.
3. Paint recesses black and clean up with Adeptus Battlegrey.
4. Paint mouthpiece/inner joints/exhaust vents and metals Boltgun Metal and Wash with Devlan Mud.
5.Paint the 'paper' of the purity seal Bleached Bone and the stamp piece warlock purple or blood red and wash both with Devlan Mud.
6. Paint eyes Scorpion Green/Blood Red/Ice blue.
7. Paint backpack exhaust and knee/elbow pads Gold(home made mix of some metallic white paint, Shining Gold and Vallejo Gold).
8. Skulls, Bleached Bone and Devlan Mud wash.
That's all i have now and it was a bit quick(i'm at work excuse me)
Hope i helped out/gave some inspiration!
Cheerz!
EDIT: For rusted parts(like powerfist fingers/knuckles) i basecoat Scorched Brown, drybrush Boltgun Metal and Highlight Chainmail
40377
Post by: Imperial Renegade
That does help a lot! For my receses, I was the model with bada black first, and the just toutchup around the receses. I find I like doing my backpacks black, then Highlighted with Codex Grey.
51891
Post by: Wolf_Ov_The_Void
Ohyeah and i am learning to highlight atm, for that i use Fortress Grey,
I paint the recesses because the washing method is quite a paint-spiller because you are touching up on parts that wouln't need it if you painted the recesses black
Just my 2 cents

I am stripping my Termi Librarian that came painted. When my force is done I want all of the models to be ones I painted if you know what I mean! Cant wait to paint him!

He looks awesome...noting bad to note on him at all(maybe he needs a nice base? haha just joking)
Now..
Ladies and Gentlemen...
The following post of pictures is about my other work and some older work of mine...
First up!(for you Imperial Renegade)
WIP Predator and Crusader:
And some terrain i've been building/painting:
My new workspace
My DP & DP on display
2 Guardsmen i've painted with wolves in the background(i liked painting those..)
Close up from the DP freehand(not too good of a pic)
The ''Green Flames'' marine i painted a while back
One of the first SW Marine's i've ever painted
Wolves that are going in the stripper(really old buggers)
WIP Warshrine
Base of the Warshrine
So that's it folks, no new SW/ SM update today, but at least better than nothing.
Have a nice one people!
Wolf out!
EDIT: The last 2 pics are partly visible, for those that want to see em' check out my gallery!

Very nice Wolf! Love all of yout models, and exspecially that terrain! I think the only thing missing now, is maby a light box! lol Love your stuff, great work!

Thnx guys! nah won't be needing a lightbox i need a good camera,
My camera died last year and now i'm taking pics with my HTC DZ so not the best pics,
But that's gonna change for sure!
Anyone noticed the Sw converted WW2 Leopard tank in the background?

No, i bought this kit in the local FLGS
47729
Post by: HONAW
Did you get it for the SW or for different reason?
51891
Post by: Wolf_Ov_The_Void
My father-in-law stopped with his hobby of building tanks and he gave the tank(NIB) to me,
I also bought a Panzerhaubitze2000 1/35 (41 cm long) and i am going to convert that one to a Shadowsword.
40377
Post by: Imperial Renegade
Aha! I see it know! Look really good! As for the lightbox, I said the same thing, but after I maid one it maid a big difference! All you need is a Cardboard box, aluminume foil(standerd kitchen foil) white paper. and last but not least......wait for it.....TAPE!!!!!!!! Tape the foil to cover the inside of the box, then tape the white paper on the back and the bottom of the box, and vuala! instant inexpensive light box. HONAW can vouch for the results. It will make the pics taken with your phone a lot better! But hey, its up to you. Just somthing so simple and such good results often tend to be dismissed......lol

I really dont know. Its very strange as far as that goes. They always come out like that. Is it because I have to much resolution as I am taking them in 10 mega pixals.
The light switch is on the wall to the left of the spock picture......... I dont know if you have chipmunks where you live.

Nail varhish remover! Works very well I've heard or simple green or mr mussle. Most cleaners should do it I geuss, but nail varnish remover is the safest!

I belive it sometimes can depening on how long you leave them in for. Tbh your best gamit would be to either use the nail polish remover or do some more reashurch! Theres and article here on dakka I bleive. You tube is also a good source, yet the world wide hummble web is your best source alltogether!
51891
Post by: Wolf_Ov_The_Void
You can't get it the USA but Dettol's the best, nail polish remover is the death for plastics....i commented a while ago on removing paint on someone's topic you should read my post! Automatically Appended Next Post: Wolf_Ov_The_Void wrote:This works exactly the same as with Dettol
Never knew how paint stripping worked but wanted to do it for a while so i did that a week or 2 ago:
1.Bought a bottle of Dettol 500ml(10 euro).
2.Got a glass jar and filled it halfway with Dettol(specifically Dettol because it were all plastics).
3.Tossed in a bunch of chaos marines and terminators a friend of mine gave to me after he quit 40k(painted real thick btw).
4.Waited 12 hours and brushed of the paint.
5. A lot of paint was still there in the recesses, so they liked another bath of Dettol for another 6 hours.
6. After that i brushed them clean another time with an old toothbrush, i didn't washed them with soapy water but let them dry for at least 48 hours in a good-ventilated room.
The models are as new(just as the reuseable Dettol, just get a coffee-filter and get a jar under it and you've got yourself new and fresh paint-remover),
Just posting my experience here hope i helped out someone!
Cheers,
Wolf

I wasn't on dakka last weekend because i was visiting my old folks(my mom's bday and haven't seen my old man in six months).
Got some nice stuff from there as wel:
My old (badly) painted Hammerhead Tank
5 (even worse) painted termi's from maccrage
A sm bike, some other marines
and some chaos marines.
Those guys are so getting a dettol bath tonight
EDIT: Got myself a proper camera, a Fujifilm FinePix JX 300
Specs:
Pixels 14 megapixel
Resolution -> 4288 x 3216 pixels
Optic zoom -> 5x
Digital zoom -> 6.7x
Lens -> 25 mm
Diafragma -> F/2.6 - F/6.2
ISO -> ISO 3200
Maximum videoresolution 1280 x 720 pixels

So...just got home, got myself some dinner, a cardboard box some foil and paper & a sciccor!
Without macro:
With macro function on:
A bright marine!:
So that's all for today, i'll be cleaning up some stuff and maybe unbox the necron thingy, but first! the models named previous today are getting a bath!
EDIT:
BATH TIME!
You can hear the XV25 Stealth Suit screaming FOR THE GREATE..... AAGH MY BLUE PAINT!!!!
The jar they are in in the picture is the main jar, used to let them bathe for hours on(with a hole on the lid), they just took one from 30 minutes and i then put them in the smaller ''shaky jar'' to shake the paint of with just some dettol, now i'll see them tomorrowmorning(9 hours from now) and shake them again, if not all paint is gone they take another bath for 3-5 hours to make sure all is gone.
Wolf out!

Post by: Wolf_Ov_The_Void
So after a good bed time and some breakfast and shower it's time to let the boys out! out of the bathing jar and into the shaky jar!
LET US REMOVE PAINT
Couple of drops of soap, some hot water and 50ml dettol and shaky shaky time!
I got this bugger with the head broken of with the neck still attached, so got myself a new marine head, sliced off the neck and there goes!
The termis just need some scrubbing with a kleenex and they're done!
Cleaned up and gave these guys some arms, friday the jumppacks are in with the mail so those are waiting for the jumppacks
Also with the last step comes that when the models are just out of the dettol, they are very soft, so trimming down stuff and removing mold lines this is the time you have to do it! the last owner of the smurf marines used plastic glue and he wasnt so easy on it, even the chest insignia's were covered in plastic glue! yuck!

Another marine i am painting right now is a marine i builded the other day for a friend who helped me out with ordering on bitzbox.co. uk seeing i don't have paypal and i can't make one.
The order itself was something like 20$ but he said ''just paint me one of those marines'' so i am doing that
He wanted it to have red and green in it so washed snot green with red knee pads and shoulder pad trim atm, doing the backpack now and when i get back from work i hope to continue on the 2 little buggers

I'm finishing the SW one(90%) but the green one is WIP 60%, i want to drill out those barrels but the stores in my city don't have em and the one i have is missing, painting the eye lensed more than just the main color? how!!?!?!?! i'm happy if i can paint the eye within the lenses!
47729
Post by: HONAW
How big are your brushes? This is how I do it. Paint the lense black. Let dry. then get a really dark red or whatever other color you want to use. drybrush that in but leave some black in. then get a lighter red drybrush that in leaving some of the dark red in once again. keep going until you feel that it has enough depth. Now on to highlighting. get some skull white and put some on the end of your brush and put a dot of it on the back corner of the eye piece. next for it all to dry between steps. Put some gloss varnish on it to complete. I find it better to do it at the outset of the model when the helmet is not painted.
51891
Post by: Wolf_Ov_The_Void
Ahhh that makes sense!
it could easily be done with the helmet itself not painted!
Gotta try that one! thnx!

I need feedback on the mud and color. I just mixed up a pot of paint to paint my force. Is it too purple or is it just fine. How is the mud? I am going to highlight it a bit and add a bit more in bigger chunks.

I think the mud is great. Maybe pick out some of the rocky chunks with the same color you use on you bases; that'll really help tie it into your army.

Looks great! I will agree with sentinal on this one, only because you really cant see the blue. On top of that, The consistancey is amazing! I like the way you did the dozer blade. Looks like this vindicator had been through H***!
I would now apply mud to your troops to match the tank. It will kinda look out of place next to all of those squeky clearn Marines

Haha, I know, just messin' with ya. However, in the real world, I don't think they get very muddy on the top. Google some pics of tanks going through the mud and you'll see that it doesn't really splash up top very much.
I would suggest just maybe cleaning up the blue on top. Then I would be happy. The thick stuff on the tracks is fantastic.

I cant really clean it up. Do you think I could dry brush it on?

Looks much better now. I like it a lot. So why is the shell green? Brass dose not corode green.

Because...................I wanted it green. And I am not done with it. When does most things in 40k match modern day stuff. Its all gothic here so lets make the shells different. Not everything has to match and be the same or we would have a boring hobby.

Dont take offense mike. We were just wondering. Most of your stuff is such high quality, that when we see something like that that seems a bit out of place in our eyes, we ask questions. To me it is hard to tell what is WIP or finished. It might help a bit if you posted WIP Vindicator on Page 9 just so we know if its done or not. It gets confusing when you see a vindicator like that with such high quality, and then a unfineshed green shell. Its not bad, Just seems a bit out of place right now. Im sure when its done it will look better.

Honestly i have to back Imperial Renegade here, the shell does look a bit out of place colour wise, that and its a bit shiney. Apart from that the vindicator looks sweet

Update. Here is my WIP marines..... They are still waiting for lots of details to be picked out as I am doing the base coating first on the Marines and i will make sure each one looks good when I am done base coating the army. I tried blue in the backround of the lightbox and seems to be working out better! Also an updated Libby pic as the old ones were pretty bad. Lots of work to do....
