Road to Armies on Parade- The Sisters of Battle Project- Sisters of the Cleansing Flame+ Breast Cancer Awareness

Today in April 3, 2012 I have finally received all of the models need to start my journey to Armies on Parade. This blog will be a detailed record from starting with unopened boxes of sister models to the work of art that I am hoping that they become.

I will explain everything from concept ideas and fluff for the scheme of the models so that people will understand where I was trying to go with my vision.

The Story-
The name of the army, Sisters of the Cleansing Flame, is based off of self-written fluff that I do not wish to bored those who are here to so the evolution of this project.

The color scheme was chosen by a random and unexpected event. Last year I ordered a set of reaper models for Reaper.com. I was planning to paint the models up and sell them online for dungeon and dragon groups who like a good-looking model to use while playing their games. My order came with a special reaper paint that for Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This paint inspired me to make an army theme that will both help Breast Cancer Awareness and just plan look good. Over the year, I have painted models for charities just because I am able to. This was for not only Cancer, but also animal rights, conversation, etc. Now a year later, I am better painter and willing to show everybody that I am able to go the distance with this project.

The Models-
From what you can see in this picture that I have posted everything that I need to start my project. I have my battle board square. I have my General. I have units and transports. Tomorrow I will post the Army list so that people can see so you are able to mark off each model, as they are complete. There will be a terrain piece created for the battle board and a super heavy that will be a great centerpiece for the army.

Please follow, watch, and comment whenever you feel. I have a long road so today I shall begin.

Night 1-
Like all of the projects that I start, I must make sure I do each unit one at a time. The first unit that I am starting with is the nine Sister Repentia Squad. This elite unit must be done up to a 3 inch standard like all of my models. That first thing I must do is to clip off all of the access metal and then file off all of the mold lines. I know that I will not get them all so I will do what I can for tonight and then check again on them tomorrow after work. This will be for my benefit and for those who look at my models.

This is the list that I have created to be the foundation for my project. This is an 1850 list using the point values in the new White Dwarfs Magazines. Before anyone asks or starts to pick the list apart, this in not a competitive list. ( So sit rules lawyers sit!) This list was made specifically so I can incorporate a different array of models for Armies on Parade. This will also be used as my checklist throughout this blog.

6 Celestian Squad (3 Stormbolters, Simulacrum Imperialis)
10 Repentia (1 sister superior)

Day 2-
I started this evening by taking a good half hour removing the mold lines that I miss yesterday. I complete this by using a magnifying glass headset, not very stylish but it gets the job done.

Once I am through with the mold lines I rebase the model, I realized my PVA glue was too watered down last evening when I based them, which cause the sand to fall off with the slightest touch.

After the Bases dried, I used GW’s Skull white priming strap, which at room temperature gives off a smooth finish.

Now I had to decide by this point whether to paint them like a stock-standard sister unit, which is usually Caucasian skin color. Me, being who I am decided that this just would not do. I will paint them all in different racial oriented colors since I doubt that all Imperial Citizens are the entire Caucasian race. I took aside four out of the nine models to paint with the basic Caucasian, three will be paints with dark tone colors to indicate African orient, and the last will be a middle tan colors to indicate middle eastern to Asian orients.

Now what you see in the pictures above is just a base coat. The other models I did not touch yet for the reason that I like to finish before moving straight on to the next items.

Tomorrow I will do a second base coat to thicken the color before I start my highlights. Each model that I do, I will give a full two to three hours of my attention just to make sure I do what I am setting out to accomplish.

Day 3-
I must have to say that this was a slow night for my project. The first hour was searching for my paints. That was fun (please note the sarcasm). After the paints that revealed themselves to me within the last possible box that I own, I then started on the second base coat on the models to fill in the missed spots. I did not bother with pictures for the second coat just in case people asked.

Once the second coat was dry, I started highlighting the first models flesh tones. I find that flesh is the hardest part of painting the model so that is why I decide to do it first.

You can notice a big different between the nature shades on plain bases coat (model on the right) and the highlights and shadow tones that I have added (model on the left). I use a six-step system to wet blend and feather a model so that is looks more natural.

After the flesh tones dry, I pulled out the pink to start working on cloth areas that are there to tie the model into the army theme. As with the fresh tone highlights, I start with a base coat. I will use a mixture of purples for the darker shadows and soft white mixed with the pink to pull out the lighter highlight. A six-step process for highlighting will follow this up.

I would like to hear your feedback and suggestion. This will be and ongoing project that I hope to inspire others within the hobby.

The Repentia are really starting to look good and the highlight and shading on the flesh is seriously smooth. Flesh is something I hate painting in large amounts I can never seem to get it right yet but practise makes perfect.

You have definitely got me wanting to do some painting but safly I'm stuck spending the next couple of days with the future in-laws so maybe next week.

There have been a couple things that are plaguing me will the sisters army that I am making. I need to figure out what type of terrain that I am going to paint the sisters. I am have been trying to narrow down what I want to do whether I should do a wasteland planets, the streets and fresh grasses of a Chapel hive. The Wasteland planet made visual by burnt areas dust and drying plants. The Chapel hive the models will look more clean and fresh grass on some of the bases and marble. This is a tough decision but one that will be made by the time I get home from work to start the project of day 4.

Day 4-
This evening I was motivated to press out two more of the models. I had started with the six-step highlight of flesh tone in each, this you can notice within the first two pictures. I gave them each a good amount of time to dry before applying the second coat of flesh tones. I will go back again with a second lighting source later to smooth out some of the blending work and feather the shades in better. I do this after the base of the model is complete. I do this to finalize my painting of the skin in cases any access color touch the flesh; it will be easier to clean up. I use brown wash on the tip of the thinnest brush I own to outline the space between where the flesh meets the clothing, chains, icons, etc. I did not use the wash for any of the highlighting. I find that it makes more of a mess and it is harder to clean up.

Next, I did the hardest part of any model, the eyes. I had found a technique that works for me when doing the eye. I find that painting the eye black first as a base color will bring the result to look more like eyelashes or eye liner in the end. I used a “2/0 Rosemary & Co Kolinsky sable SER 323” because of it thin and accurate tips to paint the eye. I used an off white for the eye itself. I suggest this for more of a realistic look. Then I do what anyone would do, I dotted the eye. Please, I cannot stress this enough, make sure that you know where you want the model to look. A model looks horrible when their eyes are going in complete disorder.

For the final touch for this evening, I started all of the models with the pink base coat. I only did one coat so that I have an idea on how they are starting to turn out. The pink will be highlighted with white-pink and purple, this step will not be started until Monday or Tuesday.

I will not be doing any work on this project on the weekend because of Easter. I will however be going to the local comic show to pick up supplies for this project such as new paints, models for conversations, and terrain piece for the board itself. This in all will take less than ten minutes to complete.

I do hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. Please post comments, questions, and support of this project. I will answer and give any updates for this project. Again, have a great Easter and hope to hear from everybody soon.

Day 5-
I will first start this evening with hoping that everyone had a greet holiday weekend.

Now to the models, today I had to complete an item for one of my college course. This took some time away from my little project. I made the decision to not continue with the Caucasian sisters today and work on the base colors of the Africa and Eastern sisters. If people remember the prior posts, I am not making all of the sisters in my army the same stock standard color. This is a decision to respect and honor everyone, that and it get boring painting the same sisters repeatedly. I believe that most people would agree with this mind set especially those who paint Orks and Skaven models.

I started with a darker brown to bases the African skin, I will be highlighting later with lighter colors to express a close by lighting source. The Eastern base color I used is a yellow-brown color. This is darker the base tan color that I had used with the Caucasian skin tones. You can tell the different between the three models. Once I start the highlights, you will be able to see more realist feature per model. I will also, when these models are completed, add addition detailing of scars, banding, tattoos, embroidery, etc.

Tomorrow’s goal is to work on the highlight on all of the models and complete the eyes and facial features. Again, please show support, comments, and questions. Night

Day 6-

I first tonight by doing the six- coated highlight for the African skin tone, This is accomplish with a dark brown for the shadowing, and medium light brown for the first layer of highlight, and then a tan color for the highest highlight. This is a four-colored process. I use paint retarder to slow the drying speed of the colors, this allows me to wet-blend the color sets together with a nature look. As you can see from the pictures below, the colors turned out very well.

After painting the highlights and letting them dry, I then start on the eyes. Since the skin one is already a darker color, I did not use the black to fill in the eyeball before painting the off-white. I warn people again, when painting the dot on the eye, think about where model is looking. I hate seeing a Space Marine in a battle pose, with his body facing a specific direction and the eyes looking up to the sky praying the Emperor is going to step on him .

Now I hate myself a little today for the fact that I had a “what the ….” Moment. I started to checkout some of the sisters that I have already highlighted, I was going to touch up on some of the areas, remember that I do six coats. Well, while I was evaluating the models, what do I find? (If people remember some of my older posts are going to love this) MOLD LINE!

I fell victim to my own pet peeve. I turned the model just right into the light and there is was, looking at me. I took the hobby knife and started to clear out the area. I will have to repaint the skin on the model; however, I cannot stand here and tell people that I am going to send a model to armies on parade with mold lines on it.

Now tomorrow I am not going working on the models. I have to give a speech for my Public Speaking course at college; however, I will have my IPhone with my to answer question that people may have throughout the day. Not only that I want to thank so far those who had subscribed to this blog so far and supported the project. Thank you HAZZER, SilverMK2, combat engineer, Mercutio, S’jet, and ghostmaker. This project still has a long way to good but I am glad to see that people are interested in this.

I do have to apologies for the pictures of late. I use my IPhone camera; it works better than my Kodak EasyShare CX7525 when taking pictures of models. The problem is that my light bulb on my lamp broke and the only replacement that I have is not as strong as the original one. I will have to fix that soon but for now, I will have to use what I got.

Unfortunately, I know that this project will not be complete by this year’s GamesDay. I have come to terms with that. I started too late in the year for this to be a part of the 2012 GamesDay. I do not see this as a problem since I will have more time to work on the army and the battle board scenic base that the sister’s will be traveling on.

Day 7-

I decided to take this evening work a little easy because I am extremely tired from my Public Speaking class last evening. I did do a good amount of work in which I am surprise of in my current condition; however, like in previous posts I am not here to disappoint.

I start to do the first coat and highlights on the eastern skin. This did not turn out how I have expected. By the time that I realized it, my supposed eastern skin tone combination was too lite, making my eastern skin into and Asian skin. The results of this mishap are pleasantly pleasing to look at . I thought that I mix my yellow-brown colors into the mixture of the cream color to have a tanned Middle Eastern look. Only after the first model was not drying into the colors that I thought I mixed two nights ago, I found out that I only used that cream tones themselves and not the premix bottles. Therefore, instead of doing the whole job over again I stuck it out and added mix of highlights that made a great Asian tone.

Now please remember that these models not complete in any sense of the work. Every day I add a new layer of highlighting to smoothing out the texture of the model. I like realisms with the skin tones. Right now on the Asian tones, you are able to see the lining I did with the wash to draw out the lines from skin to clothing.

Once completing lining and first highlights, I pulled the African skin toned models for their second layer of highlights. As you may be able to see, the skin not is brighter where the light actually hits the model. I am doing a true light effect for the highlights of the model instead of the halo lighting that you see in most other models. Some people will complain I am not completing the model, I say that I am being true to the model.

Here with having all tree skin tones next to one another. I hope that you will be able to see the difference between all the ethnic groups that I had used for my sisters army so far. I like that there are slight difference within my sister’s army that make it just a bit different from other armies that I have seen.

With May approaching, my college course will be at an end. This means that I will be about to take more time to work on my painting and building of the models for this project. If anyone has read some of my other posts prior to this blog then you know that I have said that I have other projects that I wanted to start in May. I have to be honest that I do not thing that I will be able to get to those one any time soon. I have dedicated a lot of time, money, and thought to this project here to see it through to the end. I have people who want to see this project materialize and flourish to its final complete at armies on parade and hopefully Gamesday. I do not want to disappoint anyone ether.

As at the ending of each day, I hope that everyone enjoyed what I have shown you boys and girls so far. Please show your support, ask questions it you have them, comments if you want them (be kind, lol), and over all have fun and enjoy what I have to offer.

Oh, and I must make a comment on a private message that I have received. Someone ask me why I decided to make breast cancer awareness the focus for my army. Was there someone I know who has it, family, girlfriend, or a friend? The answer for the reason is this. Why not? Do I really need a reason to do something nice? I did this because it feels good in doing something that helps in the world occasionally. All I say is try it. What do you have to lose?

I do my skin tones a little differently than most. Unlike what GW tutorials where the darkest color is you base coat and then build up to the lightest, I use a middle color. This middle color is the mean skin color. I work up the lighter colors for specific light source, which is usually my lamp directed into where the sun would be. Then I use darker colors to pick out all of the shadow areas that the light does not touch. I really do prefer natural lighting effects to the stock standard halo lighting that used in all display models. I like to have paint retarder close are hand during the highlighting process. It gives me more time to blend the colors smoothly together. The must suggestion is multiple coats of highlights, this will after a few time give a natural blend that is hard to notice. The coats do not have to be thick at all, just a little here and a little there. I hope this helps. It took me a lot of trial and error to get the looks that I wanted. Trust me, I am still learning.

I believe changing models color is taboo to some gamers, painter, and hobbyists. It is not that they would mind to change the skin tones to other ethnic tones, it is just that people see them painted the same way every time, then it gets into their heads that they need to be painted like this. This can be skin color, armour color, energy color. I like it when I see an Ork painted completely red skinned and the fluff was that the tribe that lived on the planet skin pigment chanced due to the planets warp tainted atmosphere. I like see people make their own chapters and hearing the player fluff of their founding. I like to see power weapons that are not just blue. There is nothing in 40k fluff that says that all energy, physic or engineered, are required to be blue. That is why I painted my Sister skin, even the dark tones, into this army. The world and the universe is a large place. There are not just one color running around, there are many ethic races, and it is my personal preference to show that in my painting. This is not the Star Wars galaxy where Lando is the only black person within the entire universe. This is the 40k universe, the Emperor Protects

Day 8-

This morning I thought that I would have been productive. The idea of being productive was great; however, this did not happen. Want I got home I realized that I had other things to do around the home before starting my models: Laundry, cook, clean, etc. The idea of fresh clothing was at the time better than my hobbyist instinct.

I did get an hour in of answering questions and comments for the subscribers. For the hour after that, I spent my time doing my next coat of highlight on each model. This highlighting had a purpose. This coat was there to thin out the areas where the brown wash for the lining bleed through. This is to fine remove some of the visual wash area but keep the fine dark line that are the border between the skin and clothing. This was hard to do without removing the line entirely.

Since today is Friday, I want to show everybody the work so far. These two pictures I tried to set up exactly the same way. You can see the models starting to take a life of their own yet unfortunately, some complications have arisen. One of the models broke from her base. She will be repaired as soon as I get a new drill bit; one of my friends borrows and breaks my bits without replacing them.

Now for those who remember my posts, comments, and rant about my pet peeve, on day six I fell victim to a problem of biblical proportions, MOLD LINE . This was not a single instant. After checking over the mold that have a mold line in the worse area possible I then examined her sister model, what did I find? I found a mold line in the exact same place . This was unacceptable for the Sisters of Battle . Does anyone remember the saying about Vanity, “Cut off your nose, despite your face.” Thispicture is the result of that.

I just thank God that this was only the base coat of pink. Now tomorrow I need to purchase the new GW white basing color, White Scar. This will allow me to fill in the filed down area to without problem.

This weekend I will try to get started on the leather and armour for these models. I may not be on a lot next week because I will have to work on my college finals. This will not hinder me from answering questions or comments about this project. I will take time out of my studies to replay when I can. I know that people are interested. For that, I thank you all.

Before I end today’s blog, I also like to hear suggestion as well as the usually opinion, questions, comments, etc. Please do not be shy and show your support. I plan to go the distance. Gamesday, I want you. (sorry, listening to “Eye of the Tiger” on repeat while I was painting, its motivational LOL )

Sunday Morning (pre Day 9-) -

I will not call this a productive day so far since I only woke up around 11 A.M. I will like to look at this morning as a new toy day. Recently I have been looking for some supplies for the hobby to make it easier for me to see and paint my models better. Yesterday was the day that answered my prayers. I made it known to everyone on Friday that my Saturday are the days were I restock my paints, green stuff, brushes (if necessary), and plastic card stock. I decided or at least requested my girlfriend to make a stop at the local Hobby Town USA in her area when we go shopping today. Now since I have been driving her around from mall to mall and shoe store to shoe store, she agreed that I deserve this one small mercy lol. I went in there with the thought of a single purchase, and there it was. This lamp I was looking for the past few years.

In case no one knew this, within all of my pictures, a little blue desk lamp is the main illumination of the models. This lamp is also the only light source I have to work with when painting these models. Now I have a better way to see and pick out the details that I want to work with. As costly as this new lamp was, it is better than my old method of bend and squint at the model praying that I did not miss something important.

I may have a day 9- up tonight as soon as I get some things done around the house for the day.

Day 9- (finally)

After a very gorgeous day today, I am extremely motivated to work on my models. I have a new magnifying lamp to help me see the finer detailed areas of my models so that I can paint. I am ready to roll.

Today I started to add a watered black wash to all of my models armored areas. This technique is to highlight all of the cracks and nooks in the armor and chains so that I can tell where on part ends and another begins. I only use this on white primed models. Now I can see these new areas, I then paint my middle grey color where there is supposed to be leather. I will paint those leather areas as a white-grey mix to resemble a shined black, which you can use as any non-metallic black. The then uses a lighter white-grey for the fabric of the masks and other clothes on the model.

WARNING, PLEASE DO NOT PANIC!!!
I must explain to people that I am changing all of the cloths from pink to an off-white linen look. I am not diverting from my theme, I am changing where the pink will be located on the model. I am stinking to the original theme where if you look on my Saint Celestian, the pink areas were located on the armor. I am doing the same concept with the Sister’s Repentia Squad as well with all of the sisters in the army. The armored areas are to be dark greys and pink. The clothes are going to be linens and silks.

Now seeing the grand scheme of things, I believe that I will be completed that Repentia sometime next week if I am lucky. I am not going to rush them but I really want to see them in completion. I will have a day 10 tomorrow; however, I will not have one on Wednesday. This is due to my finally on Wednesday night Public Speaking course.

I know the sisters do not look like much today but I am not here to disappoint anyone who has subscribed. I give my same ending as always. Please show your support. Do not forget I am here to answer any questions one may have about the army, painting, modeling, etc. Comment if you like. Bring party favors. Thank you all for sticking with me so far. I while work on this project until its completion. It will be a long road, so please join me on it. I’ll bring the beer .

Hello Ladies!

I feel your pain on Mold Lines. I think GW models regenerate mold lines just to spite us sometimes.

The pink theme looks nice and clean too. Can't wait to see more.

Day 10-

I must apologize to all of the subscribers about how late this post is. Tuesday night was the set date for the Day 10 post; however, with much embarrassment I left my IPhone at work and was unable to photograph the steps of the model that day.

Now if you remember the last post, I painted all of the cloth into a grey base. I used the grey base color instead of white or black because I wanted to make my next layering a warming color. I start with a mixture of light brown and bleach bone for the first highlight. On top of the grey base coat, the mixture becomes a warm tan; this completed the effect that I desired. (I do promise that I will have the steps pictured on the next model since Tuesday was not taken.) Once I was finished my base coat I then layer the models cloth areas with pure bleach bone. The painted highlight was only painted where the light physical touches the model. Next for a finer feathering highlight, I use bleach bone and linen white, this is for a brighter shade of off white.

I decided to try something a little different from using a brown or blue-grey for the shadowing of white. I tried out a green tan that to my surprise pulled off a realistic look, can you tell? This green color makes of a perfect dingy look to the model. A sister of Repentia are beaten, tortured, and sent into battle with clothing that a pulpier would wear, and mine are not as different. Even with the themely pink, The models need to look like that had suffered in some way to receive that Emperors forgiveness.

For tomorrow, I am planning to finish this model completely to show everyone what the final produce on the unit may look like. I am having a problem trying to figure out what bases I would use for the model, something that may transfer easy to the battle board when all of the models are finished. If anyone has any suggestion about this, questions, or comments, please do be shy. This is a forum after all

Day 11-

I have started out the night by trying to remember my painting steps. I do not realize that I did not write down my color scheme steps and now I am regretting that decision or lack thereof. I did a couple test mixings with different paints that gave me the desired effect.

I started out with the pink on the knee, ankles, and hilt. I started with watered down of the main pink from them bottle. This was followed up by a 2:1 of pink and bleach bone for the layering highlight. Remember to feather it in smoothly. Next, I used a 1:2 pink and bleach bone to give the lighted areas a fine highlight. For the shadowed areas, I used a 2:2 pink and warlock purple. The light directly does not touch these shadowed areas so it is hard to see, which kind of the point, its shadows. Now to blend the shadows I used a touch of purple wash, this in on the very tip of a finely pointed brush.

For the chains and metal areas, I decided to use metallic colors instead of non-metallic so that the gray painted areas are not mistaken for other parts of the model. This was done first by using black wash to pull out all of the areas nooks and crannies. Then I use the basic metallic paint scheme of boltgun, chainmail, and mithil, followed by a watered down black wash to not only blend the colors but to give an oiled look.

I had started the base with a basic brown; however, I am hesitant to go any further with the base without a game plan. I am not sure about what I should do because the result will have to be replicated on to the battle board. I do not know which direction I am going with that yet. I do not think I am going with a snow theme; I have done that in two of my other armies before. For any suggestion, comments, support, please show the support. I hope that I will have a day 12 on Sunday. If I do not hear from anyone, then have a good weekend all.

Seams like you've mae good progress! So far so good! For the bases me thinks, a desert theme, to bring out the pink or a snow theme?

Looks good to me - have you thought about a tundra type look? That way it will fit in with your previous snow based armies, but will also fit in to desert and urban bases as well.

Small bits of snow on the odd base, some brown/grey dust and the odd rock/concrete/metal spar should allow your bases fit in on a wide range of boards.

I am interested to know how you have got on with the magnifying light - I have a magnifying glass but find it really disconnects the whole painting thing and I find it really hard to use

With all honesty, I am not all impressed by the Mag Lamp. It is great as a lamp, good light and adjustable. The magnifying glass is good for when you are cleaning models and catching little details that I may have missed. The problem is that one it is not worth the money that I had paid for it and second it is very hard to paint while using both. I personally cannot adjust myself to figure out how far my brush is to the model until it is too late. I will need to set myself up and then look are the Magnifying glass, which is an extra step that I do not like.

Now for the bases I think I will go for the desert theme. This will tie a little into a guard list that I was writing, Achillian 83rd Artillery and Recon Division, Last and Final (god bless Gaunt’s Ghost First and Only)Do not worry the Last and Final is just a run on joke between me and a few of my friends.

Day 12-

Being that it is a rainy Monday, it seems that I am motivated to paint instead of working on my finals. This is good for all of you yet I think I am coming to suffer on it… oh well.

Now today I made sure that I just worked on something simple, base coats. Focus on the models main colors to be the first step to the final product that you see in the middle. I first start with all of the linen areas on each model. Like the previous post on day 11 I wanted a duller color so that is why I bases the linen grey with off-white as the second coating. The grey brings the bright color down to a milder shade.

Next, I bases all of the weapons and leather with Adeptus Battlegrey. This color I base for all the darker areas, it is a great foundation paint, just remember to water it down or you will have pigment clumps. The same for the off-white color. I usual do three coats just to me safe in getting the effect that I need.

I placed the finished painted model in the middle of the set so that you the viewer are able to see what I am trying to accomplish with the model. I believe that I am going to re-sand the bases with finer sand for the desert theme. I believe I have a paint scheme set for the painting of the sand. I know that I will have to purchase a spray gun in the near future to paint the battle board. I have some idea on that but I want to hear what you people have to say. So please do not forget to comment, support, of give your opinions, I am all ears

Before I forget, I do have finals this week so I do not know when day 13 will be up but there will be one I am sure of that.

Day (well none)

Good evening all,

I did not pick up a paintbrush or model because my mind is on overload from my finals. Those who are in college know exactly what I am talking about, final are stressful. Tonight I decided to gather my thoughts and throw-out some of my ideas for to the forums. I will talk a little about the battle board, some painting, and maybe some random thoughts.

Everyone who has been reading my blog prior to this post knows the basis theme of the army and the idea of what paint schemes it I am using to accomplishing my goal. Pink is the key. People, you can snicker all that you want but know that I believe that this is the most underrated color. This color should not only be used for Tzeeches horror or Slaaneshes Daemonette. The Sisters of battle are here for the Emperors will.

With all joking aside, I am using the color pink, yes, because it is an underrated color, but represents the premise of my goal, breast cancer awareness. As said before I have never known anyone who has this decease, nor even help this movement before. The only reason that I am doing this project for this movement is… well why not? I do not need a reason. It is a good cause, who needs a reason to do a good thing. This project is the going to be the first of many different charity projects that I will complete within the next few years.

Now the battleboard was something that was stressing me out for a while because I do not have a bases scheme. I wanted to avoid snow and winter themes at all cost, I completed and sold a Warriors of Chaos, Dark Elves, and Black Templars( I still own)all winter themes. This time with the help of the good people of the forums, I decided to do a desert theme.

The desert theme is good because now I have ideas flying left and right. My friends within the hobby get kind of scare when this happens, for me getting crazy ideas. You see, my friend have given me the nickname Hannibal as in the A-team. There are two quotes that I uses all of the time when thinking about ideas.

“Capt. Charisa Sosa: [about Face's team] I would never tell him this, but they are the best at what they do, and they specialize in the ridiculous. “

“Col. John 'Hannibal' Smith: Give me a minute, I'm good. Give me an hour, I'm great. Give me six months, I'm unbeatable.”

Now I need to explain this more into detail. When I get Ideas in my head, I more or less have to act on them ASAP. This is most of the in conversion ideas. With my ideas, I will make a badass conversion that will most likely cost more them my army did. The last time this happened to my friends and me were at the 2010 Baltimore Gamesday. We decided to try out the Conversion Contest just for fun. After seeing all of the bitz, my famous look on my face appear, and then I was off doing what I do best… I have no idea what that is, but I was doing it. Once I was done I gave the completed model is and thought nothing more of it until the end of Gamesday were I wanted to take it home. It seems like my little case of madness won me first place in the Conversion Contest. Now I have my eye set on armies on Parade and my ideas are targeted on the Desert them battleboard.

I have start drawing up plans for the battleboard (thank god for the single semester in Architecture class) and giving it a life of its own. I plan to make a ruined sandstone cathedral with broken half-sand cover statues. I have material ideas and scenery list that I will share on a later day. I think that you all will like what I have to offer.

Before anyone is assumes too much this project is not for armies on parade of 2012. It is intended for 2013. I do not want to rush myself in finishing something and it being half-assed. I think everyone can agree with me on that. As you can see, I am not a good candidate for Iron Painter Competition lol.

I hope you all enjoyed my thoughts, tell me yours, commends, questions, support, etc.

I would be lying if l told people that this is the first of its kind. I know that the pink armor concept has been done before as you have shown in your blog, which a looking great by the way . I have just subscribe to your blog to watch the progress of these sisters. Very nice

The pink for Breast Cancer Awareness has been done all over the place as well. I have seen Empire, Warriors of Chaos, Nercons, and of course, Sisters. The only differences between those armies and mine are that this is my vision of them.

For my sister’s army, I change the idea of pink to certain pieces of armor to be more visually pleasing to the eyes, not overwhelming. I use color theory with my painting. I have pink as the main focus with which is a bright color by nature. I had to, using color theory, grey to tune the brightness down to find balance. I hope that you all agree.

Can you explain to me the difference? I was just going to buy the GW spray gun but if the airbrush is better and is inexpensive then I may not mind trying it out. I have not used either of them so no matter what I am starting from scratch.

A real airbrush is gravity feed compressed air spraying thin coats of paint. with an airbrush, and a little practice you can get stunning work likeeggroll With a spray gun, you can only basecoat. It also clogs up and is very cheap. I would recommend spending a hundred bucks or so and buying a nice iwiata or similar airbrush, with a dual action, gravity feed, compressor with tank, and interchangeable tips. It can, and will further your painting

This I believe is something that I can get into. I guess I will look on eBay while I am on lunch at work. Now I know were a part of next pay check is going.

Tbh I got a very basic airbrush for £20 with perpellent and still can do basecaots and hilighting as well as painting large areas. If you pefre using a brush put about a £40 max. Oh and you will want some perpellent (To 'power the air brush') because its pointless spending £200 pound on a good airbrush and compresser if you've never tried one before.

Hazzer Has a good point, but In all experience I have had with using an airbrush (I don't own one) propellent gives less control, and zenthial and detail brushing is better suited for one that costs 200$ US

Evening all,

Sorry, about my quick break that I was on. I was completing the last of my finals for this semester. I am happy to say that I did well and will happily never have to look at those books again.

I have not been idol this last week during my finals. I took a trip to Lowes and purchased a large bag of playground sand. This sand is finer sand then the GW sand that I was using previously. Let me think, $8.95 for a cup of GW sand or $20.99 for the bag of Lowes sand that will never run out. You do the math.

I have also purchased an Airbrush that I am waiting for to arrive from Canada, Thank you eBay. This only cost around $50.00 with shipping brand new, so it was a win-win for me

I am still trying to finish up things here and will post later this week with week 13, Finally!

AB is a much more controllable tool. With the right needle and compressor ( controlling the air flow) you can achive very different affects. If nothing else it is a very good tool to apply smooth and consistant paint on the models.

Again check out destingass, eggroll and Major toms work.
IMO you will not start out acheiving these results right away , but with practice it will be a common tool in your figure painting.

Look forward to more progress.

Day 13 (1/2)-

I must apologies about not updating people on my resent work on the models. I just know how exciting it is for people for me to describe how I re-base my models with fine coursed sand. It was a riveting talk of adventure, action, drama… Well, it was twenty minutes of boredom to be exact. I did not wish to waste anyone’s’ time with the step-by-step explanation of glue, dunk, and drying of sand. I will promise you that hopeful I will be done to the Sister of Repentia and it will be able start the Mistress of Repentance for the unit.

The only problem that I am having with my army is that the new spray brush has not come in yet. I am a little disappointed in this but I will live. I will give it another week and then I will contact the seller.

Second Half

Day 13-

I must apologies again for this post being as late as it was. I have been having some delays in my painting days. Once school was over, I thought that I was ok wit painting as much as I can but then some problems have arisen. As all of you know, I was purchasing an airbrush on eBay to help me in this project. The problem was that is never arrived from where I ordered it. This was annoying at most but I am able to deal with it. From May 17 through 22, I was as Disney World for my vacation period. Of course, I should have posted but I was on vacation. Then finally, as I have been sitting here the last day and a half, Diablo III has called to me. This is an Evil little game. I like it.

Nevertheless, enough about the problems here is the long lasted 13th day, which I am not too proud of.

I have been having trouble finding a good desert sand paint scheme. GW used to have a good page where they had many different basing paint schemes to try out. Now that they have the new paint set for sale, they removed the tutorial from their site. I had to come up with my own scheme, which I believe is ok. I used these paints for the sand.

I had also worked on the black-grey on the models as well. The blend came out very good. Tonight I am going to start with the metallic on the chains. Once that is completed, I will paint the final pink on to the armor. The pink will be my five-step process to bring out the best effect.

Now, before comments about the sides of the bases arise, No, they are not done. I painted a little Graveyard on the rims of the bases but what you are looking at is not the final product. I am going to have to lighten up the bases because I believe they are too dark. The rims are just a quick base to cover some of the white.

Please do not be shy with comments, thoughts, questions, etc.

Thanks and hope to hear from everyone for Day 14

Day 14-

Today I only spend about an hour working on the Sisters Repentia. I was not happy with the color of the sand that I used. I decided to lighten up tan of the sand so that it did not match the linen cloth as much.

Once I completed the new coat on the sand, I start placing the base pink on the sister’s armor. I based the entire unit of sisters now; however, I will be working on them individually so that each sister will be up to my specific standard.

Right now, you will still be able to see white near and between some of the armor plates and cracks. I am going to fill them in when I do the final touches on each model. I am also going to take some time to bruise and scar the sisters’ skin up a little with some techniques that I found on some websites and WD’s. This effect will not be resent wounds that are in this battle. I am not doing battle damage on this armor. This Sister of battle army is, in theme, ready for battle before the first shot is fired. The Repentia are bruise and scar because they are constantly in repenting for the sins against the Emperor. This is done by whipping, beating, etc.

This Saturday I was able to purchase a Battalion of Imperial Guard. Their bodies will be combined with some VC skeletons and will litter the battle board as a battle long lost. I am in need of finding ether the Battle for Macrage downed flier or I will have to purchase a Valkyrie to use as terrain.

I did not receive my airbrush yet I did get my money back from eBay. I am still annoyed at this. Say lave .

Please tell me what you think, any ideas, or comment; please do not hesitate to post.

Update-

Good Evening all,

I hope you all did not think that I have forgotten about you and this project. That is furthest from the truth. I explained to everyone within the prior post that I am going to take time on each of the Sister Repentia that I have, and I did not lie. Every day I have taken the minimum of two hours to work on each model to I am working on the second and third coats on some of them.

I did not wish to place the current pictures of them for the reason of repetition. I think that it I placed each model that has the some paint scheme over and over again just to post something, I believe that you the people of dakka would be bored at reading the same thing repeatedly. I have already completed a single model that I have shown you already, not coming soon; I will show you the final product of the Sister Repentia Squad. Once that is, done I will work on the Mistress of the squad and make the stand that the squad will be carried on.

Thank you all for your patience

Day 15-

Good Evening all,

Today I am posting the pictures of the almost completed paint jobs of the Sister Repentia squad. I had taken considerable amount of time on each of the models to get the effect that I was looking for. I had to work with four coats for the linen effect and pinks. This was a pain staking process and I know that I will have minor touch up before calling the models truly complete. I have added dead grass for the desert effect . I completed the chains and all metal with satifaction.

The only things I will have to do to complete the paint job for these sisters are to touch up the skin in certain places from leaked paint and washes. Then I will have to paint the purity seals and the Sister Repentia will be complete. I will start day 16 with the beginnings of the mistress of the squad as well as the movement base that will be attached to the battle board.

Please give me some insight on what you think, Comments about the project, models, or painting. Let know what you think.

Day 16-

Good Evening all,

As I had promised all of you from yesterday, I did that final painting on the Sisters Repentia’s purity seals. This was completed in the most basic way as I used Snakebite Leather for the foundation of the seal. Once the leather was dry, I used bleached bone and linen white for the highlights then Moldy skin for the darker areas. I then used watered down Devan Mud was to give the seal an aged look. Finally, when the wash completely dried I then used a Pigma Micron 005 pen to write the script on the seal. People say that is cheating, I say each to their own.

For the wax of the purity seal I used Mechrite Red, Scab Red, and blood red. Once dry I washed it with the watered down Devan Mud that I used on the paper.

Today I am starting the preparation of the Mistress on the squad. This is the removal of mold line and other things that are not supposed to be there.

I had noticed a trend in the direction the GW is going with their models for 2012. The announcement of 6th edition is only three days away and the year of the squishy tanks and rise the planes . The part I am talking about is the Planes. I decided not only am I going to convert and create a new Sisters of Battle superheavy tank, I will also create a brand new Aerial Assault platform of this project. I will keep everyone update on this within this blog.

Please let me know what you all think. Comments, questions, I will be here to answer them. This is why IPhones were made lol

Good morning all,

I am trying to stick with my daily goals of this project. I am currently working on the Mistress of Repentance for the Repentia squad. Yesterday, I finished up with the removal of mold lines. I took two day removing the mold line because I know that I will miss something the first time I do it. This is no harm in taking ones time on this project; it is for next year’s armies on parade after all. I had also re-based the model with the courser sand for the desert theme.

One annoying thing happened yesterday as I was cleaning the model. The whip of the mistress snapped off . This is very vexing since I forget to pick up super glue and a next drill bit. I will move on with the project with the whip off since in my get in the way currently how it is.

Tonight I have two goals. Prime the model and the skin tone under the helm. The mistress’s helm shows her face from the nose down for those who have not seen the model.

I will have the before and after pictures up tonight for people to see. If you are new to the blog please check out the project from the beginning and tell me what you think. For those who have been following since the beginning, I thank you for your patience with this project and thank you for your support.

See you all tonight

Day 17-

Good evening all,

I had the opportunity to complete the goal I had set this morning. I had stated that I would prime the model and to paint the only flesh tone that the model has which is the nose to chin area. I had picked the basic Caucasian flesh tones for this. I would have picked a different color but I left my notebook at work with my color schemes written in them as systematic order. I however, taken the time with some watered down Badab black wash to pull out the armor for future painting.

I have my plans already set on how to make the new Sisters Flier. The conversation I have estimated to cost around $250. This is a little pricey but I believe it will be very well worth it for the project.

Tomorrow or Sunday, I will start the basing work on the armor. I am going to leave the cloak for last since I have no idea what I am going to do with it. The helm and flame are going to be easy so I will not have any pressure on that part. The eye lenses are going to be ether blue or yellow. I am going to search online tonight to research a few more option of colors that go with pink to make the model stand out more.

Please let me know what you think, comment, questions, or opinions , I will always answer.

Day 18-

I had started this lovely Sunday evening with some painting on the Mistress of Repentance. I started to add the base colors to the armor. This beginning of the grey was Adeptus Battlegrey, the pink you all know as the Reaper pink giving for breast cancer awareness month. I placed to coats of the base colors to catch all of the cracks and recesses.

Now for the second part of the day I decided to start the flame on the helm of the model. I know that if I do the flame them it will be something that I will not have to go back to later. I started this the base color white. This was easy to do since the model has been primed white. Then I heavy dried brushed Golden yellow, this is to leave the some parts of the flame white. Then, I lightly dry brushed blood red. Next was a dry brush of scorched brown for the fading Smokey portion of the flame. The result of this method is shown below.

Now I will complete more up tonight if I am able but I will have a better game plan tomorrow afternoon for what I am trying to achieve for Day 19.

Please do not forget to comment, question, or talk me what you think. I will get back to any comment or question as soon as possible.

Day 19-

Evening Dakka,

This evening I started on three specific focus points on the model. Pink high lights on the armor, The grey highlights on the armor, and the robes underneath the cloak.

First, I began with the grey highlights. I used the same method that I did with the Sisters of Repentia and used the base coat as the prime color that I wanted. I then start to highlight brighter greys with the feathering technique as I pull out the light source that the armor is reflecting. I thing uses a single dark grey and some wash to pull off the dark recesses that the light does not hit.

The same setup is used for the pink as I go up in color first and then lower.

The robe that she is wearing is the only difference between all of the models of the army. I used color theory to determine that a powered blue is the best color for the job. I started out testing the darker blues for the best possible shadow areas of the model. I was unhappy of the result of each try so I then just painted the Ice Blue as a base color and will work on it for tomorrow.

I know that there are going to be some complaints about this model. The first one I can see is about the big flame on her head and the lighting effects on the helm and cloak. Please do not die of shock when I tell up all that I suck at lighting effect. I can think of better words, horrible is one. I am not going to gak up one of my models just to try something that I know I cannot do as of right now. Maybe later I will go back to it but for right now, the answer is just no.

Second is the model shadowing are off. That answering to that one is yes they are and I will tell you why. This is just the first coat on the model to pull out the areas I want highlighted out darkened. Tomorrow I will be doing the fine detailing for the second and possible third coat on the model.

Well all, I hope you all have a great night and I hope to hear from you all soon.

Emperor Protects ..... just not my grammar

Update-

Good morning all,

I will try to forward my project tonight as I start the second coat of paint on the armor. Will also try to brighten the blue on the robes, the cloak may be a problem since I do not even know which color I would be about to use.

Any suggestions I would take.

Very nice.. the pink and the blue is a bold choice, but will be stunning if you pull it off. The cloak.. you can lighten the standard lighter blue or bring out the edges with a border say of metallic , off white or a very white tan . Stay away from black, any version that will bend too easily with pink or blue ( like purple) and no red, One mans Opinion/ suggestion

Morning Dakka

Last night was an interesting evening. I only completed a little bit of paint then I wished to. You see the reason I was I did not have a lot of time since I was placing MASS EFFECT 3 Extended Cut to see then new changes that Bioware had made for the ending. For people who played the game will understand this.

Solar_lion I thank you for your suggestion/ opinion as well as the compliment on the project. The blue was the best idea that I could have done this the Mistress of Repentance. You see even though my project is breast cancer awareness themed, my sisters are the Sisters of the Cleansing Flames. The Sisters Repentia is the lowest of the order since they are Repenting for the sins or failures of to the order against the Emperor. The Blue, even thought the hottest point of a flame, is the lowest not counting white of course. The head of the unit should be the person who represents the parts of the flame; Blue, Red, Orange, and Yellow.

Now for the cloak I am definitely staying away from Black and Red, I have over used those colors throughout the other armies I had in the path. I may paint the cloak in the off-white of the linen that I had used for the Repentia. Now If I when by color theory for the light blue then I would have to paint the cloak as a light yellow-orange and if I used the pink then I will have to light lime green. The green is tempting to try but I am just a little hesitant to try it.

I will mend this problem by the end of work today and then I will implement the idea for tonight’s project.

Day 20-

Evening Dakka,

As point to earlier I have started my two goals of the night, the robe and cloak. I had started with the Dheneb Stone base coat for the cloak. I only painted the outside of the cloak to leave me with room to make the in lining of the cloak into a different color, now what that color is I do not know at this time.

Next, I so mixing the blue colors that I am going to use to highlight and shadow the robes. The only blue I used for this was Ice Blue. The mixture varied so I do not remember the exact combination that I had used for the five shades.

Once the robes final colors dried, I then recreated the color combination in previous posts for the off-white linen used on the Sisters Repentia. I added several coats to pull out the shades and highlights that I wanted. Could anyone tell that the darkest shadow is Moldy Skin, which is a pale green color? It is amazing what the mind sees.

I still have not added the second coat of pink to the armor yet. This I will set up for tomorrow to do. Tomorrow I will start on the from the tabard on the front of the model as well as painting the leather on her gauntlets and all of the straps that she has on her armor. Friday I will most likely start the work on the metal on her armor, repaint the white bindings, and work on the icons and purity seals. Sunday I will do the final detailing on the models as I give it last piece touch ups and paint the base.

I am very vexed about the in lining of the cloak. I did not want to paint it with the linen color; however making it pink also is not a bad idea thinking about it now . What do you all think? Please comment, tell me your opinions or suggestion.

I want to thank HAZZER, Evildrcheese, Fenwulf29, and The Mad Tanker (love the name by-the-way) for earlier comments and support.

Update-

Good morning Dakka,

I have tonight set up to be a productive night. First will be the in lining of the cloak. I have come to the decision of making the inside of the cloak pink like the armor. I think that is will still be visional pleasing. I will also start on the leather bits that are on the model. I will have to create a new formula for this for the leather, brown instead of black for this model.

I am going to have to go through my extensive bitz box to find something suitable to replace the broke whip in her left hand. I will find her something that is appropriate for this model. I will not replace it with a range weapon since that is not something the Mistress of Repentance would carry raise the Sisters Repentia forward into battle.

I may also start to wash the beginning of the metal area to prepare for the painting on Friday. I am setting to complete this model on Sunday.

I will need to decide to what unit or model (tank, engine, etc.) that I am going to do next. Is there anything that you guys specifically want to see? I was thinking of the Seraphim sister would be a good start since I have to convert some of the parts on them. It would be a good set of post.

Saint Celestine
Uriah Jacobus
6 Celestian Squad (3 Stormbolters, Simulacrum Imperialis)
10 Repentia (1 sister superior)
Battle Sister Squad A (Heavy Bolter , Simulacrum Imperialis)
Battle Sister Squad B (Heavy Flamer, flamer, Simulacrum Imperialis)
9 Seraphim Squads (2 Two inferno Pistols)
5 Dominion A (2 Meltaguns)
5 Dominion B (2 Flamers)
3 Penitent Engines
Exorcist
Rhino Celestian
Rhino A
Rhino B
Immolator A
Immolator B

I will most like only purchase a single box or two of sister whenever they turn into plastic model. I really only need bitz when that happens.

Day 21-

Good evening DakkaDakka,

As promised, I made the necessary adjustments to the model. I started by creating the specific shades of pinks to do the second coating on the armor. This was done to smooth out the colors that have been bleeding into by the other colors of the model. I used the same mixture on the inline of the cloak I believe I still will have to smooth that out later yet the result is pleasing.

I started on the leather brown gauntlet that the mistress is wearing. I only used two colors on brown and a watered down Mud was to join the colors. I will tomorrow highlight the browns shading.

As you will see in the pictures below I had also waterdowned washed all of the areas where I am going to use metallic: tubes, backpack, chainmail, etc. I little of the wash bled on to the cloak which I am prepared for tomorrow to fix when I start the front tabard which is also going to be painted in the linen color as the cloak.

I will have a set of plans written up for me to complete for tomorrow. I know that I am taken a long time for just a single models but that is just how I work. I am trying not only to do this project right, I am also trying to keep those of you who are following not only entertained but informed as well. If I am going to do not only one of 40k’s most expensive and heaviest armies, then I will do what I can to leave these Sisters of Battle with the best the Emperor can provide.

It is true that there is not much love for the Sisters right now. I am trying to complete army before the newer models for this army is release in the upcoming future. You all know that as soon as the Sisters are rerelease then the majority of people are going to be on the shiny new army syndrome. I want this to do its damage on armies on parade and I want all of you to witness that this was something that was not part of Shiny syndrome . So show the love and tell me what you think, ask me questions, opinions comments .

Day 22-

Good Evening Dakka,

I am happy to announce that the Sister Repentia Unit has been complete, for the most part. This entry today is for Saturday morning and Sunday today.

I had started to Saturday at 1 a.m. after returning from my GF’s house. I could not sleep so I decide to work on the Mistress of Repentance. Twenty minutes had become 3 a.m. and I realized that I had completed the Sister. I used the same stepped in the purity seals and the metal. I did decide to used Green and Red for the Pyrmethom tank on her back. I did this because I want people to think that the tanks contain to types of chemicals that when combined creates a highly intense flame. Yes, I think too much into each of my models. For the Neural whip, I created a green power effect to give it some life. I know that the model still needs a second weapon; I will get to that later.

Now today as in Sunday I had started on the next unit, the Seraphim Squad. Now before anyone questions why I am only doing five and I have ten on my army list I will explain. It anyone has noticed on things listed on the army list in that none on the Seraphim ever was created with a pair inferno pistols. The only two models that have these little pistols are the Canoness model with who multiple weapon spur and the Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard box. I need four of these pistols for the unit. I currently only have two. That is the reason I am only doing only five. I am showing you all have to convert the sister that I need.

I will be able to mold the other two as soon as the green stuff dries.

Now tomorrow I will have the rundown of what I am going to do to the Squad. I just hope that everyone will enjoy the evolution of this unit and the squad.

Please do not forget to tell me what you think, comments, or advice. I listen and respond to what I can. See all of the on day 23

Update-

Good Morning Dakka,

This evening I have a set plans for the achievement of the modeling tonight. I am going to work on the skin tones of the Seraphim Squad. I will also start with the conversation of their flight packs. I am not really happy with the Seraphim Squads current jump packs; however, I just so happen to have a box on Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard with some very distinct Angel wings jump pack. Hmmm, oh what will I do?

My goal is to make these Seraphim’s as the Emperors Angels. It anyone every read Faith and Fire they describe the Seraphim’s as Angels of the Emperors. I will make this so by using the blood angel bitz. I will still use the same color schemes to make this as my own. I do not like the current jump packs. I will prefer to have the unit the way I want them instead of going back and fix them.

Once the Seraphim Squad is complete I will then start on the core units and transports. I will have to since that is a requirement for the Army on Parade. I will make sure that this army will have unique aspects that no other Sister army that everyone has already have seen.

I ask to know what you all things about this. Question? Comments?

Day 23-

Good Evening Dakka,

I have started tonight with painting the skin tones on to three of the Sister models. I have done two with the Caucasian skin tones and one with the African tones. I have been beside myself of what I should do for the inferno wielder.

I have been beside myself of what I should do for the inferno wielder. I have decided that I am going to make her from the home world from Nocturne and will give her onyx black skin and red eyes. Now before I hear complaints about the Salamander chapter are only black because of radiation and Geneseed defects, please understand that I like the idea for an inferno wielder being for that particular planet. It will also give my army more difference to others.

Tell me what you all think. Comments, questions, opinions?

Update-

Good Morning Dakka,

My plans this evening I intent to complete the base work for at least two Sisters. I will also start the highlighting on one of the models and start on the paint of the jump pack. I hope that I will have a single Seraphim completed by day’s end.

I currently I am trying to have results for those who are following this blog. This project was conceived with to intentions. One was for the cause of Breast cancer awareness, a noble goal and drive. Second is to enter it in Armies on Parade and hopefully to Gamesday. My third and new gain is to be able to show hobbyist on DakkaDakka with new and innovative ideas. This is a bold statement since I believe that there is no such thing as a new idea, just old ones renewed in a different way. I want to show you all just because the concept may have been done before, you as the hobbyist can add your own touches to them.

I hope to see you all for tonight update and I am here for any questions.

Update-

Good morning Dakka,

I have returned from my Fourth of July BBQ and ready to work on the remaining Seraphim Squad. Tuesday I gave everyone a previous of where I am going with the squad. I have not seen anyone yet try this style of Seraphim. I have seen people use Dark Eldar Scourges Wings. I did not want that for the Seraphim’s at least since the feathered wings are too organic to be a jump pack. The only person who truly in the Warhammer 40k universe has real wings was Sanguinius, and the lore is clear on that, all else are mutants. This is something that the Sisters of Battle frown upon.

I want to explain myself to people about my blogs real quick. I do not explain the painting of each model because I am using the same paint scheme over and over again. I explain what I do once so that you the reads do not get bored of the repartition of each post. This is the reason I post step by step of the pictures instead. That is also the reason that at the end of every post I write whether people have questions and comments so if there is specific information that they need then I will give is freely.

HAZZER and Smitty I thank you both for your compliments on this project. I would also like to thank the 3700+ viewer who checked in on this project. I would like to hear from you guys as well This project will give everyone a little excitement by the time I am through with it.

Update-

Good morning Dakka,

This evening I have a goal to complete to a single model for the unit. I believe I will work on the champion of the unit since this was one of the ones that I work on last evening. I am debating about removing the power sword and placing the weapon to power spear. I have an image of the Archangel Michael in my head for this. I will use a converted version of the Dark Eldar Lelith Hesperax spear.

I plan on the beginning the core units and there transportation. I will start by breaking the boxes open and dividing the sisters between helmeted and non-helmeted Sisters. I am going to use the helmeted Sisters specifically as part of the Celestian Squad for the future project.

I am a little annoyed looking at the GW site for terrain for the project. GW raised all of the terrain pieces. Ones that were $90 are now $135 WTF! I.

Tomorrow no work will be done on the project. I will do more work on Sunday. I will try to have the entire Seraphim Squad, at least the 5 I am working on, complete.

Update-

Good evening Dakka,

I find myself apologizing more often than most. I did not finish the unit of Seraphim squad as promise. I have not been idol in my project this weekend. I did not complete all of the squad yet I did complete one of the sisters. I have a picture of the completed Sister.

I do have a goal to complete another model this evening. I am working on the champion right now. I am annoyed that I am not able to do what I had planned for her right now. I cannot at this moment work the spear idea for the champion. I am not able to work it into the model do to the winged jump pack placement. There is not enough room for the spear heft to hang behind the wings without making the model look half-assed.

I will have more time tonight to work on the unit.

Comments and Question are always welcome.

See you all later.

Good Morning Dakka,

Today I am posting the models that I have painted last night. I have completed the Seraphim Champion as you can see. I have also started to paint the fourth models. Mainly I worked on the smaller areas and medal parts. I did most of the painting of this model last weekend.

I was a little bored on the fourth model so I did something a little different. The only real thing that I could have changed is the hair. I decided to give the Seraphim raven hair with blond highlights. It did not turn out bad but I think that I will would have to go back and add a little more to bring out effect.

Last night I have complete Seraphim numbers four. This was pretty easy since I have completed three prior to this one. I only have one more model left until the unit to be complete.

I have purchase a GF9 movement tray for this unit. This is more for me to try out something new. I am adding a customized movement tray that will have GW basing bitz and small dunes. I am going to magnetize the tray if it turns out how I like it. Once complete I may make one for each unit and add it to the battle board.

I will end up painting the tray. Once the unit is complete I will start the next unit or tank. Now is there anything specific that people want to see the next for the project?

Comments? Questions? Lunch?!?

Day 29- Weekend

Good Afternoon Dakka,

I am happy to announce that the Seraphim squad is now complete. As I said, the finished sister was done in the skin color of the Salamander chapter’s gene flaw. People can whine about fluff all that you may want but I think that it gives the unit a little difference in its feel.

I had also finished painting the movement tray for the squad. I will place magnets on the base as soon as I receive the correct ones that I had ordered.

This week I am going to start the core sister’s squads. I will be working on the Battle Sister Squad B first as well as Rhino B. Don’t worry I will create better names later on for the squad.
Saint Celestine
Uriah Jacobus
6 Celestian Squad (3 Stormbolters, Simulacrum Imperialis)
10 Repentia (1 sister superior)
Battle Sister Squad A (Heavy Bolter , Simulacrum Imperialis)
Battle Sister Squad B (Heavy Flamer, flamer, Simulacrum Imperialis)
5 Seraphim Squads (Two inferno Pistols)
5 Dominion A (2 Meltaguns)
5 Dominion B (2 Flamers)
3 Penitent Engines
Exorcist
Rhino Celestian
Rhino A
Rhino B
Immolator A
Immolator B

Due to the size of the project and the minimum space on the battle board I will have to reduce the sizes of some of the so that the units will fit. I have already taken in to account on the size and layering of the battle board terrain place in this project. If you had already notice I had changed the Seraphim Squad from ten to five. This is not only to make room but also avoid too many similar models in repetition as has already been don already.

Please to not forget I am always around to listen to commends and answer questions. I love to hear what you guys have to say.

Day 30-

Good morning Dakka,

As I had done in the past I started this week by cleaning models of mold lines and loose bitz of metal. Once the bitz are removed, I primed the models. After giving the model ample time to dry I then start on the skin tones of the models. The out of the ten Battle Sisters, eight are without helmets. I am making three with the Caucasian and three with Africa skin tones. The finally two will be with the Asian skin tones. I am going to search for a new way to make a couple new skin tones that will make the sisters different from each other.

Tonight I am going to start to work on the sister’s armor. I will mass produce each unit of core armors bases colors. This is easier for me. Once that is over I will work on the highlight one by one to make each piece as well painted as each other.

I cannot wait to work on the transport since I have a lot of ideas for the designs for each and every tank.

Please let me know what you think.

I have plans on making the Celestian sqaud's Simulacrum Imperialis into a army banner. This will have an Angel with wearing a pink shaw. This is represent the Pink ribbon of the Breast Cancer Awareness. Each unit will have something in the unit that will give the same representation.

Day 31-

Good Afternoon Dakka,

I have not posted for the past week but I am not here to disappoint. This week have all been about shopping and trying new things. I will start with the basic work of The Battle Sisters Squad B, soon I will have and better name so do not threat. This week I worked on the pinks and greys on the armor. This was done with the same set up as all previous models. Then I decided to work on the Simulacrum Imperialis. I wanted the weathering on the scroll to be more worn then all others since it is a holy relic.

I finally wanted to try something a little different this week and the Arts and Craft store Michael gave me that chance. I was able pick up airbrush and some plywood. The airbrush received good reviews. This will help me with some of the work on my project. The plywood is for an experiment that I wanted to see that I could do. I wanted to make movement trays for all of my sisters. This will help with moving them in the future. Why are the Seraphim Squad so special.

I used the design of the Gale Force Nine movement as the basis of this idea. I start by measuring the GF9 movement tray to see the thickness on the tray. This you will see the tray itself is not just one piece of plywood but two. I trace the base of 10 models on the wood, since that is that max that I am using, and then cut them out by using a dremil. Once the holes are cut, I then use Gorilla wood glue and clamp one piece of plywood to another. Once glue dried, I thing dremiled the plate in the shape that I desired. Once I received the desired shape I then sandpapered the plate smooth and then added the sand and terrain piece I wanted.

I will have more for you all tomorrow. Please tell me how I am doing. Please show your support. Ask questions or leave comments. I like to hear from you all.

Night

Nice work on the latest units.

I really like the use of highlights in the hair, I found it really difficult to get variet in the heads of my SoB when I painted them.

Also, the Seraphim with the grey face...the colour looks too similar to the grey in the armour in my opinion (or maybe it's the pictures). Thought I'd mention it.

Day 32-

Good evening Dakka,

I will need to apologies about today’s post. It will not contain any pictures since I left my phone at work.

I am at a little snag in the project that I was hoping that the fans here and the Dakka community may be about to help with. You see my project contacts a large amount of models yet it seems that that battle board, which is armies on parade legal, may not be about to contain all that that I wish to place in it.

You all must realize that I wish to wow people with what I am going to add to this project. I do not wish for the battle board to just be a plain, flat 2x2 board. I am constructing sand covered ruined cathedral. I only have so much room to work with so I am asking for suggestions that my help me in this problem. I am also asking people for what units they want to see and which ones that can sit out unit a later date.

Update-

Good Evening Dakka,

Do not worry all I have not forgotten you. This week I have taken a break in my project to get my thoughts around where I am going with it. You see I started to realize that my project calls for a lot of models yet the battle board would not be able to fit all of them. I held this week as a break so I can cut off the fat in areas and create a collective wish list that I want done.

Just today, I started to have one on my mad scientist light bulb go one. My friends saw the crazy look in my eyes and they just went “Ohhhh gak”.

I am currently obtaining the correct amount of funds to do what I want with my battle board. The idea that I am committing myself to will cost me around $100 in materials and $350 in GW terrain. The funds are what are holding my back currently. I will be about to make up the money in around three months. This money is not even a part of the Sister Super heavy and flier that I plan to build. Now does everyone realize why I am making this for armies on parade 2013?

I hope that people could lend me some ideas or other things that my help me in my journey.

Please tell me what you all thing. How I am doing? What you think about the project? Show me the love!

Big fan of what you've been doing with this, the models you're producing are looking great.

Although I'm still convened that one of your Seraphim’s skin tone is too grey and very similar the grey in the armour.

What exactly are you planning for the board? Is it a trade secret?

I first want to thank you on the compliment on the project. I am working hard for you and the rest of dakka to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

I agree that the grey does match the armour. The problem that I had is that it is extremely hard to vary the shades of grey for the black onyx skin tone. Using that greys that I did still give me the desired effect of the Salamanders skin tone without losing the highlights within the face. I had previous tested this on several space marine models prior to the painting of this Seraphim.

For the battle board questions, it is not a trade secret at all. I am currently drawing up that design so that I could show you and everyone else the vision that I plan to make reality. What I can tell you right not is that it will first fit on the 2 x 2 battle board square. It will be a monastery imbedded in the side on a mountain which the only to entrances will be a two flight platforms that lead into the cavernous mountain and a blast door that leads into the underground platform. When the sketch is complete, you all will have a better visual aid in knowing where I am going with it.

Update-

I am in a current state of epic fail. Let me explain. As of right now, I do not have a scanner. Recently this week we had a string of thunderstorm because of the extreme head. Monday after a set of multiple power outages, my scanner/ printer/ copy/ fax machine was fried. Not only is this annoying, it is going to cost me more then I really wish to spend this month.

Ok for the good news. The units of Sisters are almost complete. I just have to touch up a few and take their pictures for you all to see. I am going to work with the sketch of battle board that I designed and want to create. My work has a scanner. I hope that I will be able to get everything out on the blog ASAP.

I had purchase two airbrushes that I am currently practicing with them technique that I have seen on YouTube videos. One is a Duel the other is a single.

I had also purchased the model that I need for the bases of the superheavy that I am building for the squad. Do not worry; I did not forget the flier. I need to start the construction on both of these conversations before I make the battle board, just so that I know I will have room to fit them on.

Sorry the problems but like I said I have a week of epic failure.

I find that the airbrush is a good tool as long it is well maintained and cared for. I would say that it would help with some aspects of the project; however, I would not rely on it. This will help me with the battle board and the tanks; I would not use it for the smaller models. Some people are probable able to use it to design with the small models, I am just not up to that level yet. I had it for two weeks now and I just started to learn how to line and dot with effects. I will have to learn a great amount more, next would be something called dagger strokes.

Ah yes, the old dagger strokes, I've heard that it's a good method to practice the paintflow. I agree that an airbrush is a great tool, but as you've hinted at you're always going to need brushes to do the detailing.

New models are looking great, the face of the HB looks especially good.

I think it's just meant to be a highlight, sorta like this:

All the SOB have the same hairstyle, so it gets difficult to add variation. I think the highlights are a good call personally.

You are all correct about the sisters. The Purple/pink is a highlight that I used intending to individualize each of the sister models. This particular sister skin tone was painting as an Asian skin tone. I used that to determine what the highlights would be by checking a Google search on “Asian hair color.” This searched gave me multiple ideas but this picture below gave me the idea for the best result.

I'm going to be honest, I don't like the dark skinned sister with the blonde hair. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but it just looks odd. Nothing to do with the painting, that's fine, but the'res something about it....

I thank you for your opinion and compliment on the project. I thank you for your honesty and hope you will keep watching the progress of the project until its completion and armies on parade entrance.

I feel I must explain about the blond hair on the African skin tone model. I wanted something to be different about each of the sister models that I am painting. I do want to give each model a unique trait for their appearance. The problem that I run into is that because of natural ethnic traits I am limited to what I can do. If I paint models of the Caucasian skin tones, I have the options of painting any natural hair from platinum blond, red, or raven black; however, if I am painting Asian, Middle Eastern, or African skin tones then I will be limited to Black, brown, grey, and white. Since this is a problem for natural hair color now my only option is hairstyles. If you go to an online search engine such as Google, Yahoo, or Bing and type in “African hairstyles” you will see array of photos of current hairstyles and color that are popular in African/ African-American culture. The most popular of these styles and colors is blond. I know that most people may think it is an odd selection of a sister model but my mind tells me “why not?” The warhammer 40k is a science fiction game with a world of possibilities.

Day 37-

Good evening Dakka,

I know I just posted pictures of the most recent work that I have completed today but I wanted everyone to see something interesting first.

Everyone knows that I am pretty much working in my own mean to complete this project. Funds are hard to get since to complete this project is to cost me another $800 dollars. $500 for the terrain and materials needed for the battle board and $300 for the conversation of the Flier and super-heavy. Is it expensive? Yes! However, not out over my reach. I have resorted to EBay for finding these funds. I had decided to sell my older Sister of battle models online to make up at least half of the funds.

Now before questions are asked, no, these are not a part of this project. These sisters are extras that I had that were only collecting dust. They were sister that I traded from people of the years to build my first sisters army. The ones that were painted were for my Kill team tournament that GW Cottman Ave, Philadelphia store was running about five to six years ago. The ones that are not painted were trades from BazaarBazaars that GW used to run until they stopped them since it was not profitable enough for them to hold. Vexing is it not?

I wanted the pictures to be shown here to give everyone an idea of have my skill has have evolved within the last six year.

You all know that onces this unit is finally complete, that is when I really get to start with the fun stuff, TANKS!!!

Day 38-

Good evening Dakka,

As you, all can see the project is moving along great. I am not rushing this since it is for a good cause as well as for a competition. I will have to make this post an update for where my project is going.

I will start with what I have completed. Right now, the two-unit requirement is complete for the armies on parade. I do however have to complete the backpacks for the Sister of Battle squad. I also will need to paint one single Repentia. She had broken on her base and I next got back to her. Just because the minimum unit requirement is reached, I do plan to make further installments on the project.

The Second part of the update is the future. I had already mentioned that I am currently building the funds for the battle board and conversions to bring out the army more with my personal vision of it. I will also be starting some of the transports and tanks, both of these will have my personal touch as well.

Third, the battle board, this is to answer evildrcheese’s questions about the sketches, I do have some sketched ready for the board. My only problem is finding a scanner to use. My phones do not give me a good enough image to post on the page. If you notice my last few pictures my phone’s camera is not focusing images correctly which are leaving the images blurry. I need to find a way to fix this. I will try to have the images of the battle board ideas up on Sunday or Monday.

Please do not forget to check out past post on the project to see the evolution of it. I like to hear what you all think so please show some love and post. I would like to hear from you all. Any questions I will be happy to answer.

Tim, I completely agree with you about the skin tones. I have been painting Warhammer models since 2002. The most annoying thing to see in any model is repetition. I had painted Orcs and Goblin, Brettonians, Empire, Dark Elves, High Elves, Space Marines, Orks, Warriors of Chaos, Chaos Daemons, Ogres, and Dwarfs. Each army was the same stock-standard paint scheme for the skin. Orcs are green; everyone else was Caucasian, not including the Salamander Chapter of course. With this army, I truly need to bring some large depth into it. There are many individuals out there and I plan if possible to make every sister different. I promised myself that this would be different from most armies seen out there now. I am just glad that people like you and the rest of Dakka are noticing the differences. They are not big ones but they are here.

Day 39-

Good Evening Dakka,

I wish to inform everyone that I was not being idle this weekend on my project. My mad scientist ideas have brought me to my first of the three conversation pieces of the project.

I am proud to introduce the Sisters of Battle Engine of Salvation.

I had to start this project by thinking what no one has seen before. People have seen the Dread knight engine and penitent engine conversation before, I am sure of this; however, I am sure that none has seen the variant of the penitent engine, Dread knight, and Sister Repentia conservation that I have just introduced you all to today.

Is that an oversize Eviscerator that the Engine of Salvation is wielding? Yes she is! This engine is armed with the titan-killing weapon, thanks to a Stompa that is collecting dust. She is also armed with two heavy flamers on the roof and arm as well as a extra close combat weapon.

I stuck with the penitent engine blue print with the dread night by using the reverse leg setup. I also completed this by instead of having a left hand underneath the heavy flamer I used a saw blade, thus find on Penitent engine design.

I have some more holes and cracks to fill on this model before painting begins but I just wanted you all to see this as a fun beginning.

Comments, question, options?
I would love to here what you guys think.

Glorious golden pancake mix! That's amazing.

I have never seen a 'Dread knight engine and penitent engine conversation' before, but this is fantastic.

Have you/do you plan to write some rule for in (apoc game maybe?).

It loks great anyway, I'm really excited to see what other treats you churn out!

D

Thanks you cheese for the extremely welcoming compliment for the Engine of Salvation.

I do intend to create a full set of rules for this model so that people may be able to try them out if they like the design or just wish to see what this beast can do.

I have seen a Sisters dread knight before. The ones that I have seen however were just a driver of the penitent engine in the place of the grey knight. I wanted this model to specifically look like a larger variant of the penitent engine. To do this I had to give it two specific items; the heavy flamers, and saw close combat weapon. Both of these you can see on the left hand/ arm and the roof. To give it my own personally touch I made the engine a large version of the Sister Repentia with a Eviscerator.

I warned everyone when I think of a crazy conversation; I go big and will buy or trade for what I need. I purchased a dread knight; I had an Ork stompa, and had an extra pilot in my bitz box. I am still going to convert a superheavy tank and a flier for this project. Those will be in the near future.

Now I most go and paint my Engine

Day 40-

Good evening Dakka,

First, I would like to thank that new faces, KalashnikovMarine and allibator, for there welcoming comments. I thank you people for checking in and hope you will enjoy the updates of this project. Evildrcheese, many thanks as usual.

Next, I would like to update everyone on the Engine of Salvation. Today I tried to add more highlights to the greys. I will need to do three coats at least to get the desired effect. I am not used to adding my skills to something so big. I will need a little more time as I modify my technique to where I will be happy with the results.

I had also started to add the base coat of pink to the model to map out where it will shine. I tried to make the pink areas the same areas I would have painted on the smaller sisters. I thinks I will do the wrist armor in pink as well.

Now the project will slow day a little next week because my college classes will begin. This will not affect too much since it seems I work more on my models when I am in mid-semester instead of doing my homework, figures.

I thank you all for the comment and hope to see more new faces post and most definite the long time subscribers, you know who I am talking about… wait! not you, the other guy!

Day 41-

The engine of salvation is turning out nicely. Today I worked on the second and third coat of grey on the armor. You will notice that the shadings are more crisp then yesterday’s picture. I also started with the first coat of highlights for the pink. I will only do two coats of pink since the first came out pretty good today. Finally, I also added the boltgun metallics where they belong.

I will start with the weapon arms tomorrow. As of right now I am trying to find more places to add pink. The size of this model is causing me to think a little more about what areas will the pink pop out more.

Saturday, I will head to Lowes to pick up some materials for the super heavy conversion. I am debating with myself with making all three conversions blend in with one another. This is an options but I may want to stay out of that for now.

I had a productive evening of finishing the Engine of Salvation conversion. I have painted it will all intent of being part of the Sister of Battle army and I will sometime this week great a rule set for this creation of mine.

I have also acquired all of the materials today at Michael’s, Lowes, and Home Depot to create the second of the three conversions of this project. Now I know that I have not done a regular transport yet but I have a long time before this project is over so I think that I am still good with time.

It has been a long evening waiting for the Reaper Kickstarter to end so as of right now… I am going to sleep. Night all..

Please do not forget to show your support of the project. Comments and opinions are valued; Questions will be answered if I am able.

Day 43- and a Half

Today is the start of the new week and as of right now I have the following items completed:

10 Sisters Repentia w/Mistress
10 Sister of Battle Squad
5 Seraphim Squad
And 1 Engine of Salvation

This is only the begin! I need to stretch out work between Regular units that are found in the rulebook and converted units that I created. The next items that I will do is a Sisters Rhino, an immolator and the oh so heavy Exorcist. Once I have these put together and painted then I will reveal the next conversation.

With the conversion in mind, I want to bring you, the subscribers, into this. The next week I would like you people to vote on what conversion you would like to see done next. Now the kicker is that I am not going to give away any details except for this; do you wish to see the Superheavy or the Flier? I am not going to tell you what I am going to do with ether of them but I what you all to vote.

I am going to start on the Rhino now. Please do not forget to vote, comment, or Ask questions. Every piece of support is welcome….

Speaking of! Prototype_X I was glad to hear that I was about to sway you a bit. I thank you for your comment and I hope you enjoy what the future will have to offer.

Day 43- part 2

First, I would like to thank WvPopp for being the first vote for my next conversion.

The would be Flyers 1(hey, I am from Philadelphia), Super-Heavy 0

Next, I had been busy for the post few hours getting some of the tanks ready. I had the two immolators build already as well as the Exorcist. Now I have some modeling touch ups to do with on the ones that I had put together previously since I build them in a time before I really cared how my models looked.

I hope to see more people in the voting. Please do not forget to show your support of the project. Comments are opinions are welcomed.

I know what you mean about the off balanced issue. The arm ended up shifting down the night I throught that the glue was completely dry. It wasn't as you can so but it still turned out pretty well.

I thank you for your vote. The current tally is now fliers 3 super heavy 0..

Now for those of dakka. Last evening i was working on my tanks. I realized how much harder it is to work true light shadowing to a tank. I will need to figure it out it on the fly.

Speaking of Fly it is the flier the is in the lead unless the super heavy start to roll over the Competition

Day 44-

Good Evening Dakka,

After yesterday highlighting the armor in greys, I started to prime the areas that I want pink in white. This is just to lighting the pink so that it is more vibrant.

Today doing lunch at work I started to make up a sketch of what I want the flier to be. Now I know that the flier has not yet won but it is in the lead 3-0.

I hope that you guy participate. I think that it may start some interesting conversations. I want to hear from you people what type of flier you think a Sister of Battle would be in. Once I hear from you people, I will give you hints or maybe even the concept art of my conversion. Here is the hint that I will give you all for today... The conversion of the flier that I am making involvers Stormtalon, Stormraven, and the Valkyrie.

Well that is all that I will give away for today.

Tell me what you people think of the project. Tell me what you kind of flier you think the SOB would bring into battle. Do not forget to vote for what the next conversion is.. Flier or Suprheavy.

The giant PE is looking great, good call about minimising the pink armour as it certainly does pop more that way. Love the way the 'driver' is looking great too.

I want to vote super heavy as I've never seen an SoB flyier, and part of me wants that to be the big reveal finale, but I suspect I'm gonna be out voted.

Sorry for the lack of cmments I've had a few days without serious Dakka action so I'm a litle behind on my subs.

As for the flier design. I think it should include all three elements of the bolter/flamer/melta trinity. Maybe the flamer could be utilised as part of the zoom move, affecting units it moves over? Just a thought.

I guess I'll vote for the flier. I'm trying to think of the recent FW flier that was all 'the church flies these'. Similar to the lightning I think? Bah, interneting and...

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/AVENGER_STRIKE_FIGHTER.html
"The Avenger is often specifically requested by the Adeptus Sororitas should they require close support in their purgations, "

That's what it was, also for the superheavy I always wanted to try a Stormlord with the fantasy cottage/shrine kit. Never got around to seeing the dimensions but it was in my head when you mentioned doing a superheavy.

Hello again. Yes I'm back at an actual computer now, rather than just on my phone.

The sketch is looking cool, really intrigued to see what you do for the statue of the emperor. Are you gonna kitbash form existing GW stuff, 3rd party or other? make your you leave details of what you se anyway.

The underground blast doors should be sweet to, I take it the blast doors will be sized for infantry and rhino sized tanks? I can't imagine how big they'd need to be to get the Engine of Salvation through.

It seems no one wants to save the flier till last except me? Oh well, I'm sure all of your conversion will be looking awesome considering the quality of the minis so far.

The Emperor statue I am going to greenstuff the hell out of the space marine statue from the terrain set. I have to use all GW or stretch built stuff for Armies on Parade. That means no third party stuff or I am already out of the running.

The underground blast door will be the size to let an exorcist drive out of it. With that being side it is still too short for the Engine of Salvation to enter the bunker however that do not mean that the flier couldn’t have drops the Engine off… ah oh did I say too much… COUGH!

Now just for you all to know that I will have if possible all of the elements of the Sister for my conversion, in saying that I may start to ask around for “Certain Bitz” to trade people out if willing. My conversions are a minimum of $300. Buy and trading for things might be what I will have to do next.

Ah of course, somehow I forgot that this is for a GW comp and thus needs all GW bits etc.

Looks like the flier is going to win the vote, so I might as well ask if you've got an idea of a frame to use? I'm guessing from the hint of the Engine of Salvation getting 'dropped' it might be a Storm Raven chassis?

Nice finish on the rhino, the top picture is excellent, the gradient on the pink at the front is perfect.

Love the green gems as well, although imagine it's deliberate as the 'light source' for the model is meant to be at the front, but the rear and rear-side gems look a little lack-lustre IMO. More mid-tone would improve the look I think.

I hope it's the exorcist next, do you plan to do NNM gold on the organ?

To answer your question, I will not be going NNM on the organ. I know my weaknesses and NNM are just that, my weakness. What I am currently doing with the greys and pinks are my practice for NNM’s. I know that I am not good in doing NNM so I try to leave them out. You see if I did do the organ in NNM then I would have to go back to all of my models and redo the gold’s or brass on them just to match what I did on the organ. Now if I did that then I will need to change all of the silver and base metals to greys as well since then the models will look out of place since some will have NNM’s and others with Metallic.

Good evening all,

Due to the quantity of homework that I had from my Medical Terminology Coarse, it is an enhanced speed course, which bunches 16 weeks of classes into 8 weeks; I was not able to work on the Exorcist this evening. I thought that I would have had more time with the project once my homework was complete yet I was mistaken. I am going to try to make sure there is a steady amount of posts for the project over the next few weeks but there are not going to be as constant as I would have liked.

My apologies once again.

Due to the recent campaigning for selling and trading on the Dakka forums and EBay, I finally have the funds to proceed with the project immediately. I have traded for items that I needed and sold lots that I would never get too. I am telling you all this because I am a bitz hoarder and this is hard for me

Anyway, with that being said, let me comment about the project so far. The Exorcist is coming out nicely. I have as the moment placed the foundation on the model for certain things that I will add later. Any written words are going to be replace in calligraphy once I believe my practice is complete. The ribbon as I mention in a previous post will be made of green stuff and added on the parchment like a purity seal.

In case anyone was wondering what the writing on the back of the Exorcist was it is Spanish. Sensibilizacion Sobre al Cancer (Cancer Awareness). This was the closes to Latin that I could have done besides going with Italian.

Please if you people have any comments, Question, or opinions, your voices are always welcome

There is an exorcist kit from FW, but that isnt it. That is the GW kit, with lots of good ol fashioned metal parts.

As a fellow hoarder of plastics, let me assure you the bits I got are in good hands.

I will be able to have a drawn up design of that in a few days. The idea and image I have. On paper not yet.

For future parts of the project it will be complete the Exorcist, complete the 2 imm's, the SOB flyer that I promised, and then the supperheavy which the throne will be a part of

Day 49-

Good Evening Dakka,

You know that the day is a good day when I come home from work and find packages willing my mail slot. Let me explain, the past two weeks I have been on eBay and the Dakka swap forums getting enough piece to fun my project. I have completed this funding with extra to spare. Now to cut cost in the project I have turn to eBay for the models that I needed. I had order a stormtalon, stormraven, and a Valkyrie for 40% less than the GW site. It make me feel so good to come home the day after I ordered them to see them here waiting for me then having to wait 2 week for GW to process my order.

I have all that I will need to start the flyers that I am planning. The leftover bitz I will place on my trade forum to funnel back into the project.

I will have two sets of diagrams up by the end of this week for the flyers and the superheavy. Now even though most of your see the big stompa blade and dreadknight posted last week I will tell you this… some things are not what they appear…

Now if there are any comments, questions, inquires please feel free to post. I delight in seeing all of your comments.

I would like to welcome caminacambob and Whalemusic360 to the blog and I hope to surprise you guy with new and interesting themes.

Evildrcheese you ain’t seen nothing yet

Battle Board

With all that is going on with my schooling, I just want to make sure to let people know that I did not forget about them. This week is going to be very slow because of midterms in one of my courses. This I hope will not throw me off but as you all know, school comes first.

Now I did promise that there would be two diagrams up on the site last week, but as the studying have prevented me from scanning them. The diagrams are draw up; however, when I was drawling them my mind starting doing the bad thing once again, coming up with evil conversion. We all know how that turns out. If you noticed on the list there are two new “?????”. Yes, that is what you all think, two more special items for the sisters of battle to go into field with. Several black library books that I have read inspired both of the conversion ideas and I hope once they are revealed you all will enjoy them.

Please remember that this army is only for Armies on Parade. This is not a list that will be fielded in battle for gaming purpose. Models on this list may not be completed due to the limited space of the battle board. This battle board is going to have multiple layer to try to fit the full scope of this project.

The hair is the following
Basecoat: Iyanden Darksun
Drybrush all: Terminatus Stone
then Drybrush Lower Half Bubonic brown.
little line of Agraxax earthshade wash on the part of her hairline.

I have trailed and error though a long amount of tutorial and suggestion with skin color for the female skin tone I used the Heat Lead method seen it have the desired effect. I do have other methods of skintone developed written down.

Lowest shadow highlight: Rosy Shadow
Shadow highlight: fair shadow
Basecoat: Fair Skin

Interesting design. Are the circles infront of the wings for a specific type of gun or are they for missiles?

I like that the side profile looks like a big old Exorsist.

What kind of weapon load-out is it going to have? I feel the super heavy should really milk the 'holy trinity' of bolter, flamer, melta.

The circles are the missile tubes as in a front angle.

I have seen too my superheavys for sisters to being in the style of the Exorcist. However, I decided to use that as part. The front is in the immolator, the back Exorcist.

I am throwing the holy trinity out and making it the “what the quad” weapons; Bolter, flamer, melta, and rockets. The front will be armed with melta weapon; the three-immolator sisters will be armed with flames. The back will be armed with rockets and the side guns will be bolters. OH THE HUMANITY!!!

I like that name for the weapon load out, I will use it

For the other phrase "chum in the water", its a baiting technique for sharks. I am using the diagram as to peak your interest and curiousity to want to see more, in so it am baiting the water to interest you all more.

The propellors need to be large. Model wise that look huge but I used real helochoppers size to scale ratios to choose the size. The chopper itself it a super heavy drop ship. The propellors would be thick and long for the wieght it is carrying. These piece are not for game so I am not worried about being shot down do to size lol

I wanted to keep people informed of where I am at with the project. Due to school, my modeling and painting are backed up. I am at the last week of my speed course, the medical terminology course, as I am taking the final next Monday or Tuesday. That being said, I will have more time for my models since I will only have to worry about one course.

Now people have been noticing that I have been placing concept art that I have been doing for the blog. I am going to have a little fun with this as I am going to, within the next week and a half or so, the concept art of the fourth conversion for the road to armies on parade.

Please do not misunderstand my intent on building this fourth conversion without finishing the super chopper, but creating for me is the easy part, painting is hard. I have the funds to by what I to finish the chopper, next week I will by it. It just so happens what I need to finish the chopper is what I need to start conversion 4 and 5. Yes, I am that evil with conversion

Now for all the new subscribers, I welcome you all and hope to hear your insight on or about the project. Please check out the prior pages to see the evolvement of the project.

For all of the regulars, that you for sticking with me this long and I hope to be able to surprise you guys and girls more future parts. Slightly off topic in one respect, but what do you think of the new GW paints (if you've used any), from the above post I gather the pink is no good for your usage, but wondered what you thought of them generally.

Do not worry, it is not off topic as you think.

I do use that GW painting line prior to the new incarnate if the series. Whenever I run out of the GW series paint that I have I will first check if GW still uses a variant of the paint, if not I will find the Reaper or Game Painter series instead.

The problem that I find in the new GW painting line is that it is not they are not making this for the advance or specialty painters anymore. Gamesworkshop is marketing their paint line to two types of people, tournament gamers and new people in the hobby. Both types have the have one thing in common. Here is that fastest way to paint the majority of the models in the least amount of time. It is clear in their containers. Base, layering, Dry, Wash, Glaze. For someone like me that is a joke but for someone who is new to the hobby, this is the best thing since sliced bread.

I like to mix my paints to find the shades that I prefer. I have GW paints but they are slowly being drain away.

Thanks for the reply, I'm definitely on board with what you're saying about the new lines seemingly being aimed at those who want to paint to a decent standard quickly (I mean who wouldn't want that!), currently I'm still on using old GW paints, pretty much exclusively, but I'd been considering trying some other companies before GW did the re-vamp, I just don't know who to turn to Vallejo always seem to have positive feedback. Especially as they use dropper bottles and I want to get more use out of my airbrush rather than for laying down the base coat and filling an airbrush from GW paint bottles is a nightmare. I'm yet to use any of the new GW paints, I'm pretty interested to see what their dry brushing paint is like...not that I do a great deal of dry brushing other than on bases, but still, I'm also curious for those textured painted for basing.

I think I'll predominantly uses GW paints for the foreseeable future, my painting isn't to an especially high standard, so I don't mind them making it easy for me, but I think I'll dip my toe in the 3rd party products when I need to replace something.

Update-

I wanted to let everyone know that I have been working on the immolators during this week. I will have the progressing pictures up something later.

I was backed up with two problems, first was school, and second was pink paint... Do you know how hard it is to find pink paint in the correct shade? Very!

Slightly off topic in one respect, but what do you think of the new GW paints (if you've used any), from the above post I gather the pink is no good for your usage, but wondered what you thought of them generally.

Cheers

I suggest the Reaper Master series if you want a third party option. I found that the new formula that they use in there paint are, in my opinion, superior now to GWs new paints.

Update-

Good evening all,

I do want to thank you people for being patient with my current lack of communication. Today is the first time I have been back on to Dakka and the internet in general for the past two weeks. I will give you all an update on were the project is currently and why I have not posted in a while.

Recently two forces of nature, Sandy and a Nor’easter, currently hit the eastern United States. Since October 29th,I have not had internet access due to the down wires. Finally, this morning the lines are up and I am here to speak. The second problem is the lack of current pictures for the project. Well that has to also due to a force of nature Gravity. As you all know, I use my IPhone for the photos on my blog. The problem is that a week before Sandy’s arrive I had dropped my phone into a nice puddle… and just like that the pictures are gone because I never got them on to my computer to show you all. I had called the insurance company for my phone and they had sent it out through the mail…. Then there was Sandy again and due to the Hurricane/Tropical Storm and The Nor’easter, the mail is backed up and I am still waiting for my replacement phone.

One good thing is that I did have two photos that I have to share. Now I have a small problem, the battle boards for the Armies on Parade model are not going to fit on the 2x2 required bases if I do my Scenic base as I planned.

I have a plan! I will great the scenic base as planned and make that part of a 6x4 full battle board. For armies on Parade purposes I will make a nice looking 2x2 flat board base that will fit in the full battle board.

Because you an all are so great I am announces the fourth conversion that is currently being worked on (as if I could stay Idle for 2 week) A Super-Heavy Drop-pod for the list… yes a drop-pod, it is not as crazy as it sounds . if you notice the unopened boxes on picture two above, It will give you a little idea of what is in front of my currently. As soon as I obtain my replacement phone, I will have my pictures of all of the little “creations” that I have been working on for the past 2 weeks in my blackout time.

The premise of the idea is sound for a superheavy drop pod. Think about it. it pretty much has the rules of the planet strikes Mobile Fortress. All you will need to do is add the Deep strike special rule and a capacity the will be fair for gameplay and you are all set

Not yet Unfortunately. My last course ends December 18th, I only have to complete one more project and then I will have my degree. I was tired at looking at text books for the past few weeks so I decides to say screw it and work on my models that I know were getting lonely. Will work on my detailing tonight.

Comments, question, options?
I would love to here what you guys think.

Nice work, I just finished some work on my own penitent engine creations thought I might share them with you.

Update-

Good afternoon all,

Rumors that were told me are confirmed about dark Angels coming out. This will specifically help me complete my sisters of battle army. The bits are very unique when it comes Angels cathedrals And religious bitz That will drawout the theme of my Army. I have been working extra overtime to make sure that I have the funds to complete this project by June when armies on Parade is on. Please do note that I will not be going to games day if I do win armies on parade at the store, The reason is I don't feel like going to Texas.

Update-

I know that the last few months were far from lack luster and I know that I had many personal issues to take care of. With this in mind, I wanted to give you people a sneak peak of one of the items I am trying to finish up. This is the Engine of Damnation. This is the Arco-Flagellant variant of the heavy engines dread knight. This engine is armed with four whips to asunder the enemy in close quarters. I am currently missing the bits to complete the final item on this beast, this conversion is an easy one to make and will only take until next pay to by the items that I need.

For this project to be complete, I will have the unit of three penitent dread knights being released by the super heavy drop pod (which I am kinda stuck on now)

The Engine of Salvation- The Repentia Variant

The Engine of Damnation- The Acro-Flagellant Variant

Then the Engine of Predestination- Which will be the Crusader Variant of this army.
