Traitor Guard / Death Guard No FW WIP @ 2012/06/14 14:29:45

Post by: Brymm

Hi all,
I'm probably going to move my WIP post/blog over to here at Dakka, you folks seem a lot more active than those at BoLS.
Well, I have started a labor of love. I am making a Traitor Guard army from my started but never finished Imperial Guard army. I've been salivating over some of the (hopefully true) rumors for the new Chaos codex that may or may not have rule for bad-guy-guard. I wish to live out my dream of running a Guard army with a Daemon Prince in one of the HQ slots.
I will start with posting some finished pictures. The goal:
As of now, here is the plan of models to make/paint:

Straken's Command Squad
Harker's Vets
Demolition Veterans for my Vendetta (3 meltaguns, demo-charge weilding guy will be an "icon bearer" and the fluff will be he's going to do some sort of daemonic blast)
Vendetta x 2
Psyker battle Squad (instead of 9 psykers and 1 overseer, there will be 1 Chaos Socerer and 9 slaves! When he fails a perils test, he has to sacrifice a slave to the dark overlords. Also, {obviously} since he gathers his power from the various life forces of his vicitims, he loses power as his slaves wither away)
A wicked Executioner fully loaded with Plasma
Manticore/Hydra (interchangeable turret)
Demolisher
My (doomed surely) close combat Vets (2 Flamer, HEavy Flamer, Powerfist Sarge, Grenaiders) in a flamer laden Chimera
Hellhound
2 Sentinels
2 more veteran squads with Chimeras (one with all plasma, another with all melta again)

As far as my color scheme, I want to do Khaki/Grey/Red and then use bright blue/bright green for plasma/energy/power weapons.

Another thing to note, I believe myself to be a skilled amatuer painter. I have painted commision before but since having 3 kids and a full time job, I have to limit the time I can spend on building and painting an army. I want this army to be above table top (which is surely is so far) but I will not be able to lovingly spend hours and hours on each model. For example, most accessories will be grey/mud washed/highlighted, no matter if its a radio or a gun. With my Chaos Marines I would have painted them differently. Not now, unless I do not want to finish this army within 9 years.

I will update more as I finish and some WIP pictures. Enjoy!

First is the Daemon Prince.
I painted him in a new style for me. I primed white (which I usually prime black or painters touch khaki camoflague flat), then built up his skin with blue washes (just blue paint and water) layered on over and over and over, occasionally highlighting with pure white. Bascially, whenever I got 10 minutes, I would crack open the blue wash, wash the dude, and let it dry while playing with the kids and waiting for my next 10-minutes free Everything else is basically painted with a brush/wash/highlight. I will eventually go back and power-weapon-treatment-up his sword.
Here is where I ask everyone to do a Dark Prayer so that I might someday have rules to use this guy in my Guard army.

Up next is my stand in for Colonel Straken. He is obviously not Straken-gone-bad, but a character that counts as him. Haven't named him but my daughter suggested "Killer Tom." I like the name and I think it will stick.

This guy was all brush base coat/wash (either mud or sepia) then highlight. For the sword, I went with red and layered on colors along the edges, building up to red/red orange/orange/orange bone/bone to get that cool effect.

His base is a resin base that in this picture I hadn't painted yet. It is painted and flocked now, but I don't have the picture of it.

Enjoy!

My standard Trooper. I haven't made it around to filing off all of the Aquilas yet. I plan on doing that in the future.
The heads are from Pig Iron miniatures. I really wanted to have my veterans only have these heads, then have my regular troopers to have normal cadian heads.
As I progress, I might go back and order more Pig Iron heads. I like the uniform look across the army.
I am very pleased with the basing feel that I obtained. It is very easy and comes off looking great.
I use white glue, sandbox sand, static grass in patches then the "reeds" that came from hobby lobby for train sets. Only 1 in 5 or 6 guys will have the reeds because it is kind of a hassle to get them to look good and I think it adds a level of AWESOME to see it here and there. Also, the rest of the troops I have painted since have only had standard grey guns instead of the red/grey stock like in this picture.
Enjoy!
Oh and some backstory for the lack of Chaos-ness all over the troops with crazy sigils and stuff: My troops are dedicated to their leader. The LEADER is dedicated to Chaos. They are bad guy Guard doing bad guy things. Each guy is not some deformed Chaos mutant waiting for dark gifts from higher powers. They are troops following leaders.

Up next is the Executioner plasma tank.
I have a soft spot for this beast. At 230pts, I usually find it to be a bargain. Since playing Guard, I have never NOT fielded this model.
As far as modeling and painting, my vehicles will all have some sort of Chaos-y-ness to them. When I field the army, typically there are not many guys on foot running around. Usually they are hiding inside of one of the Vendettas or Chimeras. For this one, I kept the main armor color khaki with a wash of sepia, then a drybrush of khaki. The grey is grey/mud wash/highlight and the plasma is white with a blue wash then a white highlight. The red was painted on to look as if it was painted on by the troops. I like the tank, I think it came out well. I want to get some better pictures of it because I feel the pics don't do it justice.
Enjoy!

I love me a traitor guard blog! Really like the idea of the Psyker battle squad. Will the slaves be witches that he draws the power through?

The Vendetta.
This is 1 of 2. The second is still bare plastic and missing her Lascannons.
For this one, I made my own Lascannon upgrades out of the Heavy Weapons Teams lascannons. My buddy has the Forgeworld ones but suffer from "Forgeworld Droop" (a distant relative to a certain drinking related problem that occurs at the wrong moment). I spent a bit more time painting this over my tanks, but probably because it is a larger kit. I like the end result. I plan on painting the glass on the next one though, which means I might have to paint the glass on this one to keep it uniform.
This was the first time I actually used a decal, which is on the wing (its a red chaos sigil).
The base has logs and boulders (sticks and rocks) that I think came out great.

Enjoy!

Up next is the completed troopers and Sentinels.

I have magnetized all of the sentinel weapons (a task which I would care to not repeat), which I am not sure why I did because I run pretty much just autocannons. The Sentinels are not chaos-y due to being sneaky and snarky, they might be able to confuse/decieve/claim to be exiles in order to suprise the enemy.
Enjoy!

WIP Demolisher. In this picture it is just primed.
Right now, it is base coated/washed. Will update tonight!
Enjoy!

Nope, they will be either unarmed guardsmen or generic human models (when I find some) or even some tied up slaves. I will actually use a chaos socerer model for the overseer. In my fluff, he would be the guy orchestrating the whole mess that made my unit turn bad.
Here's a pic of my Chaos Sorcerer that I'm using now before I paint up my new one for this army.

I like Killer Tom nice kit-bash

And yeah pig iron heads are pretty awesome. If you want different heads for your regular troops maybe use a different head sprue from pig iron like their rebel or feral heads. They are traitors after all.

My Demolisher and Chimera about 95% done. All my vehicles still need some extra little details, highlights and weathering. Plus, I need to paint some skin.
Enjoy!

My new (used) Leman Russ and Basilisk that I got on Ebay for an extremely low price just got put into the Lemon-scented Simple Green (which is ironically yellow). I need to get off the terrible paintjobs. I will keep you posted. Also had a moment and did some power weapons for my squad leaders and Commisar. Here is the pictures!

Checked on the Basilisk and Russ this morning before work. Appears a toothbrush will remove all of the paint with ease. I even diluted the Simple Green this time (only my second time using it for stripping) and it seems to be working even better if that is possible. We shall see how easy it all comes off when I get home.
Due up these next couple of days :
Strip, scrub, wash, dry, chaos-ify and prime the Basilisk and Russ
Paint the clothes, boots, belts and guns on (gulp!) 40 Guardsmen and 9 Heavy teams!
By the end of this week, I hope to have these done.
Stay tuned.

I am curious (in a general fashion) why so many "Guard gone wrong" projects use red... ? It is a small matter. I love the expression of creativity these armies bring and this shows a lot of potential.

Liking what I've seen so far and looking forward to what comes next! Subbed!

Post by: Brymm

Funny that you say that about the red. I recently did a comission for a buddy and I used a similar color scheme for his Dark Eldar. I think I personally use red because its my favorite color. Here are two of the Dark Eldar Warriors I did that I was really happy with.
I have a test model of another scheme I was going to try that I will swing down and grab a picture of when I locate my camera. But it was orange cloth/ceramic plate. Looked okay but a little too much "highway clean up crew" in color. Ah well, thanks for the subscription! Off to scrub some paint!

Traitor scum, the P&M is heretical and the =I= has been informed

Really nice models you got going there. I enjoy a good traitor guard blog and hope to face a few on the table one day with my own Tanith 1st +allies in a sabbat world style campigan.

Originally my Gue'vesa (traitor humans for tau) were in that scheme too and it really does look good on the table. Those models have since seen the light and returned to the emperors service as tanith for my new P&M.

Im excited to see where this blog is gonna go. Consider my watching in the shadow

Thanks guys! Having the three kids does really hamper my ability to put in as much time as I would like to my hobby, but hey, that's why its a hobby. Plus, my wife likes to see me too. Go figure.
Also, I will subscribe to your blog too, I would love to see some other ideas out there.

Things I did (and took pictures of on my camera at home which I will update tonight, for real this time!):
Scrubbed off 99% of the paint off of the Basilisk and removed the offending Ork models and any remaining Orky-ness.
Attempted to scrub off paint from the Russ, but it was barely coming off. I don't know what type of paint the guy used but it is stubborn (AND leadership 10). Unfortunately, it looks like it was glued with superglue, so the sponsons have fallen off with a light toothbrushing, along with the top hatch and a few of the tread pieces. Bummer. I suspect that I will leave it in the Green for a few more days, then pull out an unassembled model off of the frame.
I went down to get my Guardsmen and my 5 unpainted Autocannon teams caught my eye. I really liked painting the one I have done because mainly it was two dudes, one gun and a lot of basing. The basing does a lot and isn't that labor intensive. As a bonus, my guns are affixed, just the tripods. So that way, I will paint up all of my missile launchers, autocannons and lascannons (I don't forsee me using any other of the heavy weapons unless all of a sudden Mortars are the sh*t in 6th) and swap them out as I see fit. I managed to get their cloth/boots/belts/guns done. I just got to add the red, wash em all up then highlight. Oh and skin.
Then base em up and we are in business.
Stay tuned!

Simple Green is a bit slow at stripping and has a hard time with even GW paint. I use Castrol Super Clean, its an engine degreaser and it will easily remove most paints and primers (even varnish and car primer) quicker than Simple Green.

You can find CSC at Walmart in the automotive section pretty cheap, you can also use Purple Power which is nearly identical but i like Super Clean better out of all 3 ( SG, PP, CSC) it works the best.

CSC will also weaken superglue bonds as well which is good if you have some models you want to take apart.

CSC is more harsh to the skin than SG so use throw-away latex gloves, it IS safe for plastics, metals and FW resins and you can leave models in it for months or years without anything becoming rubbery.

Post by: Brymm

Hey guys,
My Simple Green got most of the paint that was submerged off of the Basilisk and took out some glue too. Also, took off some Ork-y upgrades (which is good) but didn't take off the primer (which is also good).
The Russ is still in the soup.
Here are the Heavy teams. They just have their Khaki and Grey on, no red or washes.

Alright, got 20 minutes last night and finished up the painting portion of those 5 Heavy Weapons teams. All that is left is some creative basing. I might make a lot more use of the reeds this time around as I didn't put a lot of rocks (boulders!) or sticks (LOGS!) on the bases before painting. I was really happy with the unpainted rocks I used on the Valk bases, so maybe I can go find a few and put them on.
I am going to have to take the Russ out of the soup, I gave it a test scrub and it isn't moving. I'm going to have to try one of the other solutions posted by you guys on here.
On another note, I am salivating at the possible Ally rumors for 6th. If the rumors hold true (oh please oh please oh please) you could basically add an ally-able army to yours by taking one HQ and one Troop of that army. I am assuming that would mean you would still need 1HQ and 2Troop of your main army. Then you could fill out the rest of the Force Org with whatever. I'm sure there will be other restrictions, but here is what I am thinking:

Command Squad with Straken Chimera (HQ)
Daemon Prince, wings, Mark of Khrone (or Nurgle) (HQ)
Vet Squad (melta) (Troops)
Vet Squad (plasma) (Troops)
Khorne Berzerkers OR Plague Marines in a Rhino (Troops)
Vendetta (fast)
Vendetta (fast)
Flamer Vets in a Chimera (troops)
Marbo (elite)
Sentinels (fast)
Assorted Heavys between Russes, Manticore, Hydras

I'm usually not too concerned if my army is strong in a gaming sense, but I think something like this would be no slouch. Guard with a strong close combat presence would be fun to play and pretty tough.
Anyways, I digress. If I get some time tonight when I get home, I will base up those Heavy Teams and start on something else.
Stay tuned!

Child labor, the best kind of labor. This is coming along pretty well. Maybe have a light wash of delvin mud on the red armor. The Dark Eldar looks NASTY. But in a good way.

I will be doing the mud wash (or agrathian earthtone? or something like that now?). I have washed all of the red already but in Sepia. It doesn't make a big enough contrast, so I will follow your advice! Thanks!

Just finished basing my heavy weapons teams! Woot! I might have to change the name of this blog to "Traitor Guard Speed Painting- No Forgeworld,... until I buy some!"
I am pleased. I did two of these 5 to match my other finished one, using sand, grass and some reeds. The other three have no reeds and some orangish gravel added, to make them a clear team and the reeds guys a team. Great success! Not a lot of traitorness going on here though. Ah well, there will be much more in the near future.
I think the models actually look a lot better in real life, the camera doesn't really highlight the details that I like the most. Ah well, here you go!
Stay tuned!

Finished my Devil Dog!
I got a little time this Saturday to finally do the metal parts, washes, and highlights. I also did a little paint chipping, which I think came out okay on the red. I plan on weathering all of my vehicles at once at the end with powders and such.
Enjoy!

Hey guys, found a few moments today to paint up some more dudes. I finished my 3 Infantry Squad Seargents with power weapons, my Commisar (an imperial no less! He doesn't appear to be a turncloak) and 2 Plasma gunners.
I am really pleased with the Commisar for how quickly I got him painted up.
Anyways, back to the family!

Thanks for the reactions! I also like my Executioner, its great in the game and looks great on the battlefield. I believe I get a 6++ save for decent paint job.
I plan on getting an army wide shot when I get home and posting it on here. I can't believe how quickly it is coming along. Just need to do a little each day and then BLAMMO! painted army! Just in time for 6th. I just have more guardsmen to paint...
I am going to be working on my new Guard/Chaos Marines allies list so I can get the Chaos Marines units done and painted up. Stay tuned!

Allies! I have begun!
I am not sure exactly what I am going to use from Codex: Chaos Space Marines, but I do know the HQ will be the Daemon Prince that I had you all pray for a month back. I also am pretty sure I am going to use Berzerkers in a Rhino for my required troop and then finally... Terminators!!! Here are six of my older Chaos Terminators, painted over and painted over that just got tossed into some fresh PURE simple green. I hope to get them cleaned up my tomorrow and look to get them primed and done up ala World Eaters to go with my Berzerkers. My Prince has red armor, so he could be Khorne too. We shall see. Eitherway, stay tuned!

Yeow, ain't that right? Maybe the "mystery terrain" stuff in the new rule book will have the "Lake of Simple Green", all units in it lose their armor saves.

Anyways, I pulled out my terminators and the paint just melted off. I was stoked. Mental note, do NOT dilute the simple green, it works about 1920109 times better in concentrated form. I scrubbed the models down to their primer and even got off most of that with a tooth brush. I also cleaned off an old Mark II (?) Rhino hull I got from a friend and am starting to convert that to my dedicated hydra. I might have a second one hiding somewhere, so I can make them match. My prediction is that hydras will be much better than in 5th edition, which is an added bonus for me.

I modeled up my 3 Terminators I plan on using as a deepstrike/combi-melta/suicide unit. They look great. I will get a picture tonight before I prime them. Still not sure what list I'm running yet, but am having a few competition based questions. I looks like Straken will not affect my Chaos units as they won't be Brohiems together... bummer. We will see if this changes what I am planning, but most likely it won't. I want to have a cool army, not so much a WAAC army.... though winning is fun.

Also, switched up my bases on my 7 Berzerks so they match this army. I will get pictures when I get home! Woo!

Hey all!
Quick update: The Zerks are on new bare bases, waiting to get the basing treatment when I next base some models.
The Hydras are assembled and primed! I made a lot of progress when I had about a free hour. I had found an old Predator and ANOTHER old Predator to go with it. I took off the turrets, stripped one of them in Simple Green, got them down to the basics, used some random pieces that I had two of and covered up all of the holes/ports and the like. For the actual hydra turrets, I used for one two autocannon dread arms. I magnetized them to two of the circle port things that go over the holes on the rhino attached to a Havoc Launcher mount. The other is the same mount but with 2 Autocannon teams guns and 2 sentinel guns. Both of those we mounted to a base (one was a terminator size base, the other a piece from the defiler kit) on top of a newer rhino/razorback hatch. I added various glyphs and chains, some spikes and primed em up. I am very happy with the result in such a short amount of time. I'm glad that my two Hydras are basically the same so it doesn't look like they were just slapped together from spare parts... which they were!
I also had stripped six terminators but ended up only making three. With the new rules for the Power Weapons, I decided to arm them all differently and will find out the prices in the future whenever they release the FAQ for the codexes. All three have combi-meltas, which I know I will want nearly all of the time. One guy has a wicked looking lance from Fantasy, one guy has a mace and the last guy has an axe. I like the look mainly. I accidently primed them with a satin finish black I have from Painters Touch instead of the flat. Ah well, it will all be covered none-the-less.
As of now, all of my Guard will have the same scheme and all of my Chaos Marines will be slightly different. I am thinking mainly black/red/gold with some freehand lava cracking like I did on that Rhino you can see in the background. Its just about the same technique as the lightning/power weapon effect but with different colors. Either way, here are the pics, enjoy!

Firing up the ol' airbrush tonight. I plan on laying on the bone color on my 2 Hydras then busting out the red to hit them both with the stripped red camo pattern I did on the Hellhound. Also, that is the same red I would do the Terminator main armor in, so I am going to base coat them as well. If I get really frisky, I might finish the bases on those Zerkers so they look like they belong to my army also. I am so excited.

Now since the new rules are out, how should I run that Daemon Prince? It looks like in the FAQ, they are only Mastery Level 1 even if they get the Mark of Tzeentch (which is TOTAL BULLSH!T!). If that is the case, then I guess they can't use Warp Charge 2 powers? Lame. On a not lame note, it looks like flying Monsterous Creatures are going to be tough to handle. We will see. So what are your suggestions? And what about Raptors now? They seem better too.

They way I interperated it (I could be wrong here) is that you can take and use Warp Charge 2 powers... Only every 2nd turn :(

The Hydras are just about done. I just need to finish a couple of details like the Chaos glyphs and such. Also, anyone have some insight on the Gets Hot rule and the Executioner? Looks like you make a Gets Hot roll on the plasma cannons but I didn't see anything about the main cannon... we shall see. Maybe I should change the sponsons to multimeltas. Who knows.
Either way, making some progress. Stay tuned!

Like the stuff youve done so far (and at an impressive speed). I also like the minimal (but effective) use of chaos spikes (something Im looking to reduce in my own army).

My only suggestion would be to increase the scale of some of the chaos stars and markings - some of them look a little understated for rabid followers of the dark gods! Have a look at some of the work done by Dave Taylor http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Chaos%20Stars - it inspired me anyway

Keep up the good work mate.

The stripes are, yes.

I took the advice of darkkyt and went to the link he posted. I recreated the effect using red instead of white and I believe I pulled off the "my guys painted chaos stars on their tanks" look. I am very pleased and it looks quite nice at a distance. I think I will put some chipped paint effects on the paint too to have some of the base color show through. This didn't take me that long either and I think it really bumps up the vehicles a notch.
Thanks for looking and stay tuned! I have my first game of 6th tomorrow and plan on only using painted models (if possible!) and getting pictures.

Up next is hitting the Vendetta with the big-ass chaos star on one of the wings... wish me luck.

Woot! I love holidays and vacations! Being the great 4th of July, I had no work and in turn have had 20-30 minute snipets in a ROW of time to work on models. I am in the process of adding glyphs to my vehicles free-hand and they are coming out AMAZING!!! I am so excited to use this stuff.
Here is the Vendetta with a free hand giant chaos star on the wing. I used a terminator base to get the rough circle then followed the technique posted by darkkyt to pull it off. I heavily weathered it to make it seem the traitors painted it on and it is chipping off heavily.
Lets see what else I can do today! Enjoy!

Combi-melta suicide Terminators (maybe they won't be suicide anymore considering how much better 2+ armor is) is base coated with the red and washed. All that is left is the grey on the guns/weapons, power weapon-up the weapons, cloth and then gold trim. Not sure if I want the trim to be gold of World Eaters or Silver for Word Bearers, but I will see when I get there.
The process so far was a simple green bath and a scrub
a quick soapy water wash
black primer
airbrushed scarlet red from vallejo game color
airbrushed from right about blood red from vallejo game color
wash with agatharn earthshade (the new delvan mud)

I might go through and rehighlight with blood red but we will see. Maybe that will be an end step when I finish everything else on these guys.
Thanks for looking.

Terminators missing one or two details and needing bases. I am very pleased with how these turned out. I decided on the Word Bearers theme, fits my current color scheme with the guard well.

The process after the red:
paint on cold grey (?) from vallejo
paint bone white from vallejo
wash bone with sepia
wash grey with earthshade
paint powerweapon blades black
add a rough couple of turquoise lines to the blades
add a white line in the center of the turquoise
was blades with blue
rehighlight with white

Probably should do their eyes green and pick out a few more details here and there then base them up. I play my first game of 6th tonight! Fired up!

Got a little more done this week and played my first game of 6th edition! I must say, that game was the most fun I have had playing 40k since I was 15. What an improvement. My Vendetta aka Sky Warp ended up taking out all three of my opponents (he was playing regular old lap dog Guard)! The way flyers work now make a very cinematic game.
In other news, I made a Chaos church from a small wood church my wife found at Hobby Lobby for $5.99. I took off the cross (shhhhh don't tell any Bible thumpers) and put a Tzeentch icon on top, put some spikes in the windows and an eye of horus in the main window. Simple and will look great painted, I hope.
I also based the terminators and did their eyes up real fast. I am pleased.
Lastly there is an entire army shot so far.
I played 1800 against my buddy and only used painted vehicles and had to only use like 10 dudes not painted up. It was great!
Stay tuned!
Plus thanks for the Word Bearer props, I will most definately spread the word.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Quick note, was inspired by my old Death Guard sarge (front and center) and decided that I wanted a little flexibility in the mandatory troops slot for my CSM allies. In my last and only game of 6th, my Zerks got their Rhino blowed up turn one and died to 3 men before I got to move them. I managed to move up about 9 more inches before they all died. With FNP moving to 5+ but pretty much always getting it thanks to T5, I believe the Plague Marine got a bump in 6th. So here they are, complete with their Deathguard shoulder pads from the GW blister that you could find here and there. I plan on going:
prime black
base coat in some sort of brown (like the 3 back guys) with my airbrush
heavy dry brush catachan green equivilant
heavy dry brush goblin green equivilant
medium dry brush of rotting flesh equivilant
do details in the brown and wash that with earthshade
paint guns grey, earthshade wash
base
voila

Stay tuned.

Played my second game of 6th edition, but this time with my Necrons! Didn't finish due to time (my buddies babysitter was only availible for so long), but had a great time!
As far as hobby progress goes, I found 4 more armless old metal Chaos Terminators in my bits box. My last game, my Terminators (only 3 as pictured) did amazing, taking down the 14/14/14 terrain peice with the gun on top and then contesting an objective while not taking any losses in return. Terminators seem better so I might want to have 10 painted up and ready to use. Plus the first 3 came out great and didn't take super long to do.
Also, I'm super disappointed in the fact that the Hydra Flak Tank doesn't have "interceptor" also, which really played into the game I played with them. Hrmmmmm.
Lastly, I found some GREAT Chaos bits for my second Vendetta (which I might run as a Valk with the HellStrike missiles!), which I plan on modelling tonight!
Stay tuned!

Nope. I like to imagine that everyone who turns to Chaos doesn't automatically get all sorts of "gifts" and mutations or even any more power. Its like if you go and obtain American citizenship, someone doesn't automatically give you a free gun. Or if you become a Dallas Cowboys fan, you don't get a free uniform, pads, football or a million dollars.

I just finished modeling my Valkyrie to compliment my Vendetta. I decided to model on the Hellstrike Missiles, Multilaser and the Heavy Bolter sponsons. I don't think this is optimal, but I wanted a little variation in the models. Additionally, maybe having 2 battle-cannon-esque missiles shots with the new vehicle rules might be sweet, who knows.
As far as the model goes, I went "no spikes", kept it dedicated to Khorne with two of the cool icons (one on the nose one on the tail) and went with some chains and hooks. Chains and hooks look awesome. Also, I didn't like how they wanted to use gunners at the side doors for the sponsons, so I mounted those under the wings also. Stay tuned!

They way I interperated it (I could be wrong here) is that you can take and use Warp Charge 2 powers... Only every 2nd turn :(

As for the models, looking good so far and keen on seeing more!

Yes that seems right in my opinion as in the white dwarf the daemon prince used molten beam, a warp charge 2 power.

Ah well, I can just pop them off and put on the rocket launchers. Anyone use these?

It is looking good, my one suggestion is just to add a small chaos star to the Sargent shoulders. You could add it to every guy's shoulder, but that would take a while. Right now the rank and file guys do not seem that chaos to me. I think the star would help tie the army together and give it a more complete look. My 2 cents at any rate.

As for the missile pods, use them. I am not sure if they have changed with 6th, but in 5th, they where the bees knees. Two large strength 4 temples puts the hurt on hordes and even stands a decent chance of forcing saves on MEQs. Plus you get to fire the main weapon (at least you did in 5th).

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of doing something for the seargents, including some head and weapon swaps. Since the blod squad appears to be dead, I think that I might just have regular old pistol/ccw guys with some wicked looking heads. I have a simple free hand design I had in mind for all of the shoulder pads, I just need some time to do it.

I'm excited (I think) about the rocket pods. They seem good. Thanks for the information!

My last four Terminators to round out my options with the new rules. I added three more and primed them that are already at my house.
Of the other 3, I have another combi-melta/power fist, reaper autocannon/power sword and a lightning claw/lightning claw. The conversion was fun on the auto cannon guy because I used a heavy weapons team autocannon. Looks great and HUGE!
For these 4 jabronis, 3 of them are the old metal ones. Of my now 10 Terminators, 4 of them are the old metal kind. The old metal ones are about a 1/4 inch shorter than the newer plastic ones. Does this matter? Not really.
I might run the unit big in my next few games with the Icon of Tzeentch and give my autocannon guy the "champion" tag so I can Look Out Bro! him. Anyways, stay tuned!
Oh! And I took the suggestion and added some chaos stars on my characters. I will get pictures up tonight or tomorrow.

I would have to say that 6th edition is my favorite edition of the game thus far. I started in 2nd edition with my buddy in early highschool and this is just the bees knees now. I used to have a desire to play all sorts of armies and now you can sort of mix and match and dabble in whatever you imagined playing. Looking forward to seeing your new Terminators. Oddly enough I was working on my Terminators last night. I'm getting ready to do a magnet conversion which will necessitate tearing the arms off my finisged models, drilling the metal, and attaching magnets. I'm not excited by the process but I know the results will be awesome and allow me a lot more flexibility w/ my Death Guard Terminators w/o having to have 40 of them painted up. Worked a little bit on the Plague Marines while at work today, made some progress, got their primary colors done on the armour.

The process, as pictured:
Primed with black spray
brush on beastial brown
overbrush (not quite dry brush, but not layering) on dark green
overbrush on goblin green
dry brush rotting flesh

I didn't do any washes and I probably won't highlight the armor. I really like the effect.
Up next, I need to paint up the trim brown and then paint the guns grey, then wash them both in earthshade. Lastly, any horns and skulls will be bone, washed in sepia and highlighted.
Looking to find a little more time while at work (I work on the ambulance tonight and might have some downtime) to finish them up.
Stay tuned!

In between closing, packing, ordering carpet, researching how to replace siding and paint a house, I managed to kit-bash a Decimator Engine. I think it is close to the size and looks reasonably like a Decimator from FW.
Is this thing worth it in standard 1850ish points games? I plan on keeping it cheap with the Seige Claws/Heavy Flamers and Mark of Nurgle to keep it running about.

My models and modeling supplies are unpacked and itching to be used... and use them I will!

On the slate for tonight:
Take my stripped-bare-bones wreck of a Leman Russ from Ebay and chaos-ify it and hopefully prime it.
Take my stripped-bare-bones wreck of a Basilisk and finish converting it to my kitbashed Manticore, chaos-ify it and hopefully prime it.
Take my Imperial-primed-black-missing-pieces Vindicator, chaos-ify it and hopefully prime it.
Pick up my half of the Dark Vengence Box set and see what goodies await me (I can't wait to see the HellBrute)

Update:
Finished building the Russ and the Manticore. The manticore was a wrecked "looted basilisk" I got off of Ebay that I attempted to strip and redo. Came out okay I think.
The Russ was just a gakky Russ from Ebay that appears to have been painted by oil based painted. Took a few coats of primer after stripping/cleaning to get good coverage. To make matters worse, I switched primers because my local hardware store doesn't carry the same type I have been using. For being "ultra flat, no shine" finish, its quite shine-y.
Eitherway, it will do.
On the slate, I need to hit these guys with Sepia wash, dry brush with bleached bone then do some red. I trust it will all be okay.
Stay tuned.

Washed both tanks and my built and primed Valkyrie from a few months back. I'm getting worried (but not really) about the fact that I used a new primer AND I'm using a different wash. My Sepia wash from GW busted in transit (also making a big mess of my paint box), so I ended up using my old container of Ogyrn Flesh mixed with Delvan mud. Looks about the same, but you never know until the model is done.
After the washes dried, I hit each model with a moderate dry brush of bleached bone over all of the washed areas. Turned out pretty good IMO.
Up next: Paint the grey on the guns and "metal" areas, then find out what details I want to do in the chipped-off-red, then paint the windows (! never done this before), then the misc. details and finally free hand some sweet chaos stars on them.
Still waiting to meet up with my buddy to grab my chaos half of the dark vengence box set. Anyone already have the models that they have anything to share about them?

Made a ton of progress on my Valkyrie. Managed to get all of the Grey done and then washed with lots of black paint/water mixture. So far so good. Next up is the red and then free handing some symbols. I might get VERY squirrley and try to do the wings like a Choas Star design on the wings similar to how people usually do the Aquila wings. I did a rough sketch and attached it.
I think I have a good thing going with the red and making it look chipped off. I think this thing could be off the hook.
After that, I have to figure out how to make the windows look good. I primed the windows and never assembled the cockpit. Im not sure of a good way to do the glass and it would be my first real stab at it. I had an idea of making it look like bloody hand prints and smears and stuff that look like they are coming from inside the window. Could work.
Ah well, will keep you updated.

Thanks guys!
I did an inventory of what I have done and what I still need to do. I checked back at my original post and have to make some changes. I don't think I'm going to run a psyker battle squad so I think I'm going to scratch that. I'm at a point now where if I just paint a few more regular troops, I should easily be able to field up to 2000pts of a competative army. Last night I got a moment and finished up my Valk base and the bases for the Plague Marines.
So far in sixth, I really haven't found a reason not to keep my non-assault troops (which is all of them!) in a transport for most of the game. So I think I might refurb up a Nurgle Rhino for my Plagues to cruise around in, you know, to pick up ladies or drive to objectives. Which ever they feel like.
Also, that would inspire me to finish up my other two Chimeras.
As for now, I'm keeping my eyes out for a tourney that could be a few months out so I can pull out a wysiwyg fully painted army and have some fun.
Anyways, stay tuned!

Finished up the worlds fastest Chimera today while "watching" the kids, which usually involves Dora the Explorer. I will try to get a picture tonight. I got most of the second one complete also, just need to add some red and then do the grey/black wash.
After those are complete, we are on to the endless waves of Guardsmen... wish me luck!

Word.
Assembled all of my Dark Vengence and primed it black. I do believe I am going to sprinkle the cultists into my Guard squads to get them a little more Chaos-y until the cultists gets their own codex entry in the new Chaos book. I still can't get over that Helbrute or those Chosen though. My gawd they look great. I believe I'm going to stick with the Word Bearers for my Chaos detachment so I see more red and grey in my future.
As for now, I basically finished my last two Chimeras. My shelves are starting to look nice and painty...
Enjoy!

Hey all!
Working on my stuff and getting things done! Wooo!
Over the past few nights I have managed to assemble and prime my half of Dark Vengeance. They look awesome and am excited about getting some color on them. In other hobby related news, I started work on my new game board. My new place does not have a usable basement, it has whats called a "Michigan basement," which is basically dirt floor, rock and dampness. Since I really don't have a play space any longer, I suspect I will get my quarterly games in at the game store... unless I can make a table that I can stow away and then bust out by putting it on top of my dining room table!
So it begins, my modular table project.
I have always liked everything about the Realm of Battle boards that GW makes. Except the price. I decided to attempt my own. But better. Instead of 6 2x2 squares, I will make 10 that can be changed out as I see fit.
My base material is the colored foam kids-room tiles that we had laying around and haven't found a place for since the move. I have already used some to make some terrain in the first picture. This is how its coming along so far.
As far as painting goes, I will do black spray primer, then spray on brown texture paint then a matte finish to firm it up a bit.
Anyways, as always, I will keep you guys posted!

Total army shots! If you need inspiration for what can be done with 10-20 minutes per day (and the occasional 2 hour blocks, and by occasional, I mean once a month!) for 5-6 months, here you go.
I had to take a lot of time off (over a month) to move the family to a new house and do some major house repairs. I work like a maniac. I have a family. And I managed to build and paint a good number of models to a pretty high standard. You can do this too! The only thing I love more than having a fully painted army is PLAYING AGAINST one too. You can do this!
Heres some completed army shots! Enjoy.

So far I have completed:
Valkyrie
Vendetta
Hellhound
Hydra
Hydra
Sentinel
Sentinel
Manticore
Leman Russ
Demolisher
Executioner
Chimera
Chimera
Chimera
6 x Heavy Weapons Teams
30 or so Guardsmen
Killer Tom
Daemon Prince
Terminators
Plague Marines

Still to come:
Rhino
many more Guardsmen
New Chaos stuff
Cultists
Hellbrute
Chosen

Stay tuned.

You blog and the painting inspired me over summer break when i was home to buy some brushes and restore my paints again. Having since then hit the brush to the models, i have painted about 2 platoons worth of IG in under 2 months and now with school have bought more paint to start on my battle force here. Your right about painting in small bits, its great to see a model come to life by having paints on it in small incliments each time.

Absolutely. I heard an interview the other day on Independent Characters about walking the walk, not so much talking the talk when it comes to hobby stuff. They said if you ever wanted to inspire your gaming group you should paint your own stuff instead of telling other people to paint theirs. People LOVE seeing painted armies if they play Warhammer, and nothing makes you want to paint your stuff than seeing other stuff painted.
Painting can be such a daunting task. But if you're blessed with a wife like mine, she'll let you keep a few models out to work on every day or two. Makes my progress, well, progress!
Cheers!

Wow. The army shot is amazing and I can say I know people that haven't painted that much stuff in a lifetime, let alone 5 months.

The Hellbrute looks so sick!! I'm hoping the stat line is as brutal as the model. I'd better see a WS4 / BS4 w/min 3 attacks.

Your plog is excellent and I really wish more people would pay some attention to it. But at least you can brag that you were doing Cultists waaaaaay before they were 'cool'.

Wow, thanks for the wonderful feedback. I'm hoping it comes as a sort of inspiration for others, but positive comments like that actually are an inspiration for me! Thanks!
As for the Hellbrute, the credit goes to Gw. That model is so good that I feel it turns a normal paint job into an amazing one. I too hope its sweet in game.
I'm really worried about the Daemon Prince. Seems like he might be pricey.

Today planning on basing the brute then onto my next project...

Post by: Brymm

I think that is the plan. I really need to pick up the Chaos dex when it is availible and pick through it. I am sure I am doing Guard with Chaos allies, I just need to see what holes that the Chaos Marines can fill. I'm not sure if a Prince will be worth it, I don't know if Chaos (if my opponent uses them) is going to have lots of cheap anti-air that will ruin my Vendettas and flying Prince, I need to know if a Nurlge Lord or Prince is worth it to make my Plague MArines troops. I don't know how many points I want to spend on Chaos.

My core:
Command Squad in Chimera with Autocannon/2x Plasma

Vets with meltas in a chimera

Platoon Command with 4 x Flamers, Chimera

Infantry w/missile and grenade launcher
Infantry w/missile and grenade launcher
Autocannon Team

Vendetta
Valkyrie

Leman Russ/Las
Leman Russ/Las (in a squad)

Hydra
Hydra (in a squad)

Manticore

Thats what I think the base will be. I feel it has lots of anti infantry and can handle the air pretty easily too. I'm afraid of lots of CC. I feel I have a good amount of scoring units. What should I take Chaos for? Plague Marines would be good forward objective holders. Do I need more melta? More boots on the ground? More high strength weapons? More vehicles (ha!)?
That all comes out to 1540 ish (I believe, my dex is at home). Thats only 310 for Chaos. Looking grim. What could I cut? Should I cut the Infantry Platoon for another squad of vets in a chimera? Maybe another squad of melta vets? That cuts me to 1370. I am not putting any guys into the flyers. I ran guys in there twice so far and had my guys die in horrible explosions.
This would leave me 480.
480 might be just a prince and plague marines.
Or a sorcerer of nurgle, plague marines and maybe autocannon havocs? I don't know what the points are going to come out to. We shall see.
Any suggestions?

Ok if I run all Guard:
125 Command Squad

Autocannon

155 Veterans

Chimera

230 Executioner w/sponsons

165 Leman Russ w/Las

65 Marbo

65 Infantry Squad
Autocannon
Grenade Launcher

70 Infantry Squad
Missile Launcher
Grenade Launcher

75 Autocannon Team

75 Autocannon Team

130 Hellhound

1850

I feel this would be a very good list. I feel if people try the "FLyErSSS!!>!1!!!" lists, I should be able to weight of fire them down via the Hydras/Valks/Vendetta and lots of Autocannon fire. If people try mass infantry, I should eat them up with Flamers/Hellhound/Russes. If people try mass MEQ, Executioner/Russes/weight of fire. I have lots of scoring units. Just no staying power aside from AV14. I think I could be easily swept off objectives by a good opponent.
What could I cut here if I just wanted to add a Prince/Plague Marines for more scoring/staying power?

I have decided on straight Guard for right now unless when I get my new Codex for Chaos, I find something I absolutely have to use.
The only model I don't have ready (besides a few Derp-y Guardsmen) is a suitable Marbo.
I do not want a regular Marbo. I want an awesome Chaos Marbo. Right now, the models that actually seem best for this would be one of the new Cultist models. Either that or a new kitbash ala Killer Tom. "Chaos Marbo" in Google came up with some, ahem, less than awesome results.
Stay tuned.

I'm a huge fan of Havocs w/ Heavy Bolters. Starting to try Autocannons, but that HB 3d6 ST 5 is pretty awesome if you need to lay down a wall of withering fire. That's 48 shots total! Someone that's good w/ statistics could figure the average of how many shots will hit and how many hits will wound, and how many saves (depending on armor) will successful. Statistics aside, it's disconcerting for your opponent when you bring that much firepower to bear, especially if it's all hammering 1 unit. I've killed an entire 5th Ed mob of Nobz (wound allocation shenanigans and all) that also had a Big Mek w/ force field in one turn because of concentrated firepower.

Granted they aren't tankbusters, but your opponent needs troops to take objectives. With that much firepower heading downrange, chances are you'll wipe them out.

Funny you say that Axe. I was just about to start hacking and slashing apart my heavy bolter havocs to make autocannon havocs. From what I understand, a minimum size squad of havocs with autocannons is going to come in at 115pts!!! 115 points to autocannon marines just sounds too good to be true. I am so new to 6th edition, I have not fired a heavy bolter in 6th. Does it fire differently now? Isn't still just strength 5 heavy 3? I lost my repect for Heavy Bolters when everyone and their mother started playing Grey Knights with psybolts. They fire a lot more str 5 than I do with my Havocs.
Anyways, getting my pieces together for my new Marbo.
I'm using the old "blind-folded" head from the old possessed upgrade spure, a kneeling pair of legs from the heavy weapons kit, a regular cadian chest, the pointing finger right arm and my left arm will be holding a cleaver! Also, he will have a backpack with doo-dads on it. Should be cool. Looks chaos-y enough.
Stay tuned!

Yikes, speed painting over took me! I did up to about 90% (still needs the mud wash on the guns and basing) of my four converted Autocannon havocs. I did them up ala Death Guard so that way, if the rumors hold true, I can run a reasonably priced Havoc squad with Autocannons and Mark of Nurgle. Something about power armored T5 dudes running about with 8 S7 shots at BS4 just melts my heart.
Here is the work in progress. Again, the camera is in the old diaper bag and the wife ended up taking the kids to a class.

I dropped the Hydras because they are semi-useless a lot of the time. I got a lot more scoring units, which is what I was worried about.
I am focusing on destroying my opponents scoring units and then scoring objectives with mine. I have alot of armor saturation, including 3 AV 14 chassis. I think I can give quite a few armies trouble. We will see!

Well, much like a man running for office, I am flip flopping like a mad man.
I have decided, after much, much, much debate, that I am playing straight bad guy Guard. I am leaving the CSM at home.
The idea? I can probably count on 90% of the field being Chaos Marines/Regular Marines variants. That boils down to donkey-caves in power armor.
My plan? Make donkey-caves in power armor make cover saves.... and have some sort of flyer defense.

The new list:
165 ccs
chimera
fleet master
Lascannon
Sniper x 2

155 Veterans
Meltagun x 3
Chimera

110 pcs
flamer x 4

150 Leman Russ
150 Leman Russ

85 Hydra
w/heavy stubber

230 Executioner
Plasma Sponsons

65 Marbo

120 Devil Dog

Are these the correct totals? My codex is pulling a Marbo on me and I can't locate it. Is the Devil Dog the one with the melta cannon?

Well well well!
I played that tourney yesterday and here is how I did:
Game 1 versus Imperial Guard
I win 21 to 6 battle points. The mission was a combination of Big Guns Never Tire and the Fast Attack scoring one with Dawn of War deployment. 5 Objectives, the center being worth more as the primary. Kill points of only heavy and fast for secondary.
My Russes won me the day, plan and simple.

Game 2 versus Daemons
Yikes, I lost 22 to 6.
It was kill points primary, kill points from scoring units as secondary.
He was SUPER aggessive with deep strikes and managed to land a Great Unclean One two inches from my Russes and 2 squads of screamers that got to turbo over my gak on turn 1. Did not go well.
Will update further later.

If I may criticize only one thing, the autocannons on those Havocs look too much like the heavy bolters they were. I would remove the heavy bolter barrel completely and then reattach the new barrels. The rest of your army is superb.

This is a quick recap of game 1.
Picture 1 is my deployment. Since we were playing Guard on Guard with lots and lots of heavy, I was in a bit of a conflict when I won the dice roll. Do I deploy first and get the alpha strike? Or do I go second so I can claim objectives last? Thinking it through, he had 2 Demolishers, an Executioner and lots of troops with heavy weapons. I figured I had better attempt to Manticore/Russ/Execute his stuff first.
So I deploy, get ready and get seized on!
Yikes. He had deployed in a similar fashion.
Sadly, he got first blood on turn one by wrecking my Command Chimera with a Lascannon shot from one of his Veteran squads, and then killed my poor Devil Dog. Otherwise, damage was light.
On my turn, I immoblized a demolisher that left it with very limited range and killed one Chimera. Things weren't looking good.
On his turn 2 he rolled on with one squad of his melta toting Stormtrooper squads, heroically deepstriking next to my Russ squadron. He rolled snake eyes to hit... whew! He managed to cause a few more wrecks, leaving me Chimera-less. But with my Chimeras and Devil Dog down, I still had my Manitcore, Russes, Executioner and Vendettas.
My turn 2 sees one of the planes come in and Marbo. I manage to immobilize the other Demolisher with Marbo, the Vendetta hits the ol' 3 Lascannon hits into the side of the Executioner and explodes it. Woooooo! Things are starting to look up. My Russes keep pounding the Chimeras he's trying to press up field and soon finds his veteran squads on foot in the middle of the board... not a good place to be as a Guardsman.
His 3 sees some of his other outflankers come in. He has autocannon sentinels that take out my backfield squad in cover after they shoot them up then assault. He kicks down 3 guys and I fail and get run down. Yikes. His heavy fire power is all but gone now and I notice this turn I don't really take any other damage.
My 3 is where the game basically ends. I have lots of scoring left on the table and since the missions is a combo of Big Guns and the Fast Attack one, I have even more. He doesn't. My second Vendetta comes on and explodes one demolisher and the other blows off the others main gun. He's running out of threats.
We speed through the last 3 turns in about 15 minutes because we are running out of time. During that time, I actually lose a lot of my troops and end up doing the GRAV CHUTE INSERTION on the center objective with my special weapons team! And it works! Well, works for a turn when they are lasgunned off of the objective. I end up controlling the center with a Vendetta, one of the two flanking objectives with my Executioner, contesting the other flanking one with some men on foot, controlling my back field with the Russes and he held his backfield one with a Veteran squad.
The secondary objective was a draw. He killed the same number of fast/heavy that I did.
He had first blood and Linebreaker, I had Slay the Warlord, giving me 21 and him 7. Good game!

Of course! I had some regrets (mentioned before) about selling my old Deathguard army... so I am remaking it! They will be perfect to go with the ol' Traitor Guard.

So far I have those 7 Plague Marines made up, a Lord, Hellbrute and the 4 Autocannon guys and a Rhino.

What I have slated:
LOTS AND LOTS of Plague Marines.
I am currently working on refurbing my primed ol' Chaos Space Marines and others that are painted up as Black Legion guys, painted up as other Legions.
I have lots of bodies. I will get some WIP pictures up but so far, I have gotten 14 more guys old plastic shoulder pads off and replaced with metal Death Guard pads. Also, I cut off topknots (pet peave of mine), hacked up some armor, scratched some stuff and the like. I might add the caveat that I do not want to use Green Stuff either... but I might. We will see.

So far what I can make/have/can convert/planning on doing/idea for/could do someday etc:

28 more Plague Marines (to go with the seven complete ones)
2 will have Meltaguns, 4 will have plasmaguns and 2 will have flamers. There will be 2 powerfist champions in there but otherwise its just knives baby!

4 Missile Havocs
I have these built but painted as Iron Warriors. Too bad for Purterbo.

Vindicator
Boom shakalaka, I have the model, just nurgled it up a little. The model is done but not painted. Will get WIP pics up.

1 more Rhino
I think moving a Flamer squad and melta squad up field is something I will generally want to do in every game. They need a ride!

1 Obliterator
I have this model, not sure I would run him though. I like Havocs, Havocs and Vinidcator as my heavies.

Nurgle Lord on a bike plus 3 more bikers
AH HA! You guys are going to love what I have planned. Going to be amazing, if I do say so myself

Nurgle Sorcerer on a bike...
Another one you guys should do a flip over when I get it done

Some stuff on the horizon that I don't own but plan on getting some day soon:

Custom Epidemius
Tee hee!

7 Plague Bearers

Great Unclean One
Since I can't get the Forgeworld one, maybe I will have to keep an eye out for that Ultraforge one... ;=)

2-5 Nurgle Spawn
Oh I want to try these guys.

Let me know your toughts!

Oh heck naw!!!

I started my Biker Nurgle Lord and the Champion of his little squad.
Since my wife told me "Motorcycles? Guys fight on motorcycles in the future? That seems pretty stupid," I have been a firm believer also that guys riding on motorcycles look rather stupid.
Enter my problem. I want to field Nurgle Bikers to ride about with my Biker Lord because in game terms, they seem pretty pimp.
Enter my best buddy that started a Warriors of Chaos army about 2 years ago and never really took to Fantasy.
"Hey buddy!"
"Hey!"
"You know those old Chaos knights you have? Can I have them to make Nurgle bikes out of them?"
"Sure, they're yours if you go let my dogs out today while I'm outta town."
"Deal!"

And after a short drive, some dog licks and a short drive back, I am the proud owner of 5 Chaos Knights!

So what I did was first, break off the torso of the knights.
Next, I made new Nurgle space marine torsos from my bitz box.
I selected suitably awesome heads.
Death Guard left shoulder, cool other right shoulder.
Get a Flamer for my Burning Brand.
Glue the new toros onto the knights legs.
Start painting.

Simple and TOTALLY AWESOME!

Here is the Lord and Champion, with just the base coat of brown. I plan on doing them up rather quick, because hey, I don't have a lot of time to work on my hobby and I WANT THIS gak DONE!

Toodles!

Yeah and I liked playing it too. But at the time, Chaos was getting pretty weak.
It was all about getting Plague Marines in your face and then smashing you in assault with them and Daemon Princes. It was never that bad until Grey Knights were everywhere and I couldn't even buy a win.
Ah well. Gives me a chance to start over!

Happy birthday to me!
My wife got me a box of Nurglings for my birthday. What a strange gift.
Eitherway, I plan on using them. Perhaps they can be my mandatory troop for my Death Guard / Nurgle Daemons list.

Nurglings x 7
Epidemius

Nurgle Lord on a Bike with burning brand
3 nurgle Bikers with 2x Plasma and Plasma pistol

Plague Marines x many 7 man squads with various special weapons

Vindicator
Nurgle HAvocs
Nurgle Havocs

What can go wrong?!

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Another little trick was that I used one box (technically 3 bases) to make 7 bases of guys. They give you enough of them to literally just pile them on. If you make the models like they suggest, each base has a mountain of little buggers on it. I was glad to see they came in chunks like this instead of solid blocks that you could not break up.

I should have done a WIP of the skin. I painted most of the guys solid white, some solid "rotting flesh" from vallejo and some a mix of goblin green and white. Then I washed most of them with just Agatharn Earthshade, some with green wash and then earthshade, some with vallejo sepia. They turned out way better than I anticipated.

Working on my Vindi now, had a couple hour blocks here and there this weekend that allowed me to get some work done. Speed painting at its best. Primed, based, over brush, over brush, dry brush, basic details based, washed and volia.

So with the Nurglings and the Vindi, about 230 points done in a weekend. You can do this! Just pick up the brush!

Playing a game this Sunday. Hoping to throw my good friend a curveball and play the new Chaos with no allies. This woud be my first go round and would only need to proxy a few models (the Heldrake).

180 Lord
Bike, Mark of Nurgle, Burning Brand, Power Sword, Gift of Mutation, Sigil

133 Bikes x 3
Meltagun x 2, Mark of Nurgle, Power Axe, Gift of Mutation

110 Sorcerer
Bike, Mark of Nurgle, Gift of Mutation, Meltabombs

188 Plague Marines x 7
Meltagun x 2

198 Plague Marines x 7
Plasmagun x 2

198 Plague Marines x 7
Plasmagun x 2

65 Cultists x 10
Autoguns, Heavy Stubber

170 Heldrake
Baleflamer

36 Spawn
Mark of Nurgle

36 Spawn
Mark of Nurgle

168 Havocs x 7
Mark of Nurgle, Autocannon x 4, Veterans of the Long War

209 Havocs x 7
Mark of Nurgle, Lascannon x 4, Veterans of the Long War

158 Obliterator x 2
Mark of Nurgle, Veterans of the Long War

1849

I have all of this besides the drake, and it will have to be one of my Vendettas. Otherwise, I am going to move around my nurglings a bit and put them on the big bases and have them be my counts as nurgle spawn. I think a pile of little gribblies would be better spawn anyways than the dumb models they make for spawn now.

Eitherway, I will get some pictures and I will get them posted!

Post by: Brymm

I played a slight variation of the list I posted:
Basically
Lord on a Bike, Nurgle, Burning Brand, Sigil, Gift, PW
4 Nurgle Bikes, 2x melta
7xPM with PLasma
7xPM with melta
7xHavocs w/nurgle Autocannons
7xHavocs w/nurgle Lascannons
3 terminators w/combimelta
1x Nurgle Oblit
Daemon PRince, wings, armor, tzeentch, gift
2xSpawn Nurgle
Heldrake
Cultists
Cultists

Tried to do AV denial, worked pretty much, only armor value in the list was the Heldrake.

My opponent played a pure Grey Knights list, using something like:
Librarian with the flamer power/jaws thing, terminator armor
10x terminators with psybolts and I think 2 psycannons and various CC weapons
10x strike, psybolts
10x strike, psybolts
razorback with psyflame
3 x psyflemen dreads
stormraven

We did all of the roll offs and this is where I think the luck began to shift to my side. I won the 'pick the sides' roll, since I won that I got to place the first objective of the 5 and then I won the roll off and decided to deploy and go second. Now, unless we were doing it wrong, getting to place 3 of the 5 objectives per mission one is a HUGE advantage, considering when you place the objectives. Since I placed first, I had 3 objectives in my deployment zone, he had 2.
Our deployment was Dawn of War.
He got the Feel No Pain while on an objective with his Warlord.
I got the Soulblaze BS Warlord trait.
Then things got crazy interesting. I rolled for my Gifts of Mutation... my Lord got the Eternal Warrior one (cool!) Then my Prince rolled the... ROLL D3+1 more time! And I toss down a 6!!! 4 rolls! I get Adamantium Will, Fleshbane, Instant Death and... +1 to my armor save! Holy BLEEP! Not that a Deamon Prince isn't good enough (or the endless chatter about how bad he is), he could literally win the game for me now. Looking at my dude now, it would take 72 psybolt bolter shots to cause a wound to him now thanks to 2+ with Daemon of Tzeentch... actually that only causes .666 wounds. Yikes. Add in that if I fly, well take 1/6th of that. The only thing in his army that was any threat would be a Force Hammer or whatever they are called, that would bypass my 2+ and make me take my 5+.
Eitherway, check out my deployment and his. More to come tomorrow.

Haven't had a lot of time to put in lately, but with 10 minutes here and there, I've managed to get 7 "Plague Marines" nearly done by hacking and slashing at 7 old Chaos Marines, adding in some DG pads, priming and painting them. After their weapons are done they get based, that will put me at 21 Plague Marines (3 squads of 7, hoy!).
The squad on the right are my Mark of Nurgle Havocs, with 4 Lascannons. I have a basic outline for what I will be running when I use Chaos from here on out:

Bikers with Biker Lord
DP
3 x 7 Plague Marines
7 AC Havocs
7 LC Havocs
Vindicator
Helbrute
Rhino

That is a pretty pricey core, but I love all of the models. Stay tuned.

Whew! Haven't had a lot of time lately to work on hobby, but I did manage to squeeze in a game (which is a rarity!). I finished up my Predator to give me a little flex at the Heavy spot.
What I have done:
3 Nurgle Spawn (the Nurglings)
Lord on a Bike
4 Bikers
4 squads of 7 Plague Marines
Lascannon Havocs
Autocannon Havocs
Obliterator
Vindicator
Predator
Daemon Prince
Lord on foot
5 Terminators
Helbrute
Rhino

I am so happy with my results for the small amount of time put in. Few minutes here, few minutes there. I have to find some Christmas money to expand the force a little more but as for now, I might be moving on to finishing a bunch of Guardsmen or finally painting my cultists. We will see! Stay tuned!

Thanks! Since I never plan to quit modeling and building Warhammer armies, I will keep this in mind. Buying just that one jug of simple green wiped out a lot of my "savings" from getting a tore up ebay gem.

I am not sure what to do next:
Add on to my Death Guard?
Paint Guardsmen?
Fire up my Necrons again?
Finish my counts-as-Deathwing?
Make some scratch built stuff (which I have never done!)?
We shall see. I am working on a four player campaign with my buddies and might be tied up doing that for a little while. I will keep everyone posted.

No doubt that the stats are absolutely awesome and that it is one of the more powerful and versatile options for CSM, but the model looks like it is from a Japanese trading card game and the silliness of adding a Fantasy model to a Sci-Fi game is inexplicable.

I won't drag this out further since it's your opinion vs. mine, and opinions can only be argued. I have no desire to argue.

But will will continue to silently disagree.

Poor pictures but until my good camera is back working, these will have to do.
Some thoughts:
The Plague Drone is an amazing model. They are just awesome. They paint themselves.
Can't wait to use them in a game! Looking forward to it.

Congrats and the wins and the publish, but man I gotta tell you that I could have happily gone the entire day w/o seeing a super up-close picture of a RL pustule.

Ick.
