The Inquisitor turned the unblinking gaze of his crystalline eyes across the assembled Astartes. Emotions flickered across their souls, pride, suspicion – some of their assembled number were, he knew, thought lost to many – anxiety? He smirked inwardly, his visage as impassive as their adamantium helms. They shall know fear, before our course is run.
When his voice came out, it was smooth, melodic; it belied his scarred form.
“I am Lord Inquisitor Crowl. You will call me sir. You are to serve me, and the Ordo Xenos, as I see fit.” One or two of them twitched, almost imperceptibly. He leant closer.
“Forget your oaths to your brothers. Forget your oaths to your chapters. Your only oath now is to me.” He smiled, fractionally. “To the Deathwatch, and our Emperor’s glory.” He flexed, allowing himself to stretch, his augmentations and arcane technology all to apparent. His voice rang out like a temple bell: “Imperator Rex!”
And the voices of Deathwatch sounded an echo that built to a roar. Perhaps, he mused, we may yet survive this.
Right folks, it's competition time!
Open to all and sundry; the challenge is to produce a Deathwatch Marine, chapter and loadout of your choice.
CRITERIA Judging will be on painting, modelling, and overall by myself and leadlegion. If you want to do a bit fluff, that won't hurt, either.
I am building up a Deathwatch retinue for Crowl from my existing GMS and if any of you would care to send me your fig that would be amazing.
This won't affect the judging.
The one catch for the contest is your fig should be on a small d-style (rounded lip) base; if you need one, just ask and I'll send you one.
Basing style should be entirely up to you, be it urban or desert, simple or complex. You don't have to use a d-style base, but hey, it's a change.
Picture rules are pretty standard for p&m: you must submit an unpainted or primed pic as well as your final photo. Please make the final image as large as possible and post both in-thread.
Deadline: Midnight gmt 13th Sept (that is 13th>14th).
PRIZES There will be a couple of prizes for this, and the winner will have the choice. You'll be able to pick from getting a mini custom painted by leadlegion, a Custom Build from me (GK, mentor, weeping angel, assassin, =][= retinue or something completely different!) OR... a Storm Eagle conversion kit (that is, all the resin components to build a SE from an SR). It's the new one FW are sending me, in case you're wondering Hopefully, not too shabby.
Any thoughts suggestions etc?
Otherwise, sign up and good luck!
Further clarifcations: Deathwatch are marines from any chapter drafted by the Ordo Xenos to aid Inquisitors with particularly heinous threats. Paint scheme is Blacked out armour with silver left arm. Right shoulder as per chapter of origin. Sometimes, this is reversed so chapter colours with right shoulder as deathwatch (this is non-canon iirc but rather an aesthetic choice by some folk).

List has been updated with more Maybes. Once you post a WIP I'll add you to the entrants list.
I've tweaked the prize slightly - if you choose a model from me then I'll build something entirely to your own requirements/ taste/ chapter/ race preference - not just a marine, in other words.
Also, if I can muster something suitable as a prize, would folk like a "People's Choice" award that you can vote for as well as the Judges winner?
Figured that this might be a good opportunity to use my Techmarine, so here is a WiP picture:
Just noticed that there is already a dual plasma-pistol wolf jumping around here, so I might change up the weapons there. I was thinking about forgoing the typical Techmarine tool-back-pack and give him a jump pack. If anybody would be using a Techmarine to jump behind enemy lines to disable some filthy xeno-tech it would be the Deathwatch.

And now I'm kicking myself for not taking more WIP pics. I've done no less than 10 Deathwatch marines over the past few months with plenty of "After" shots... ... Oh, what the hell, what's one more?
That's what I'm planning. An Emperor's Scythe chaplain... Maybe a jump chappy. I've got all the bits, just need to figure out time. I can't start until the 3rd week of August.
@Truffle: wow! Great Job and kudos on being first done!
@ The Dwarf Wolf: well, you've got nearly 8 weeks...
@ JustPlainJim: that's the spirit! And, resisting the urge to yell Objection! it can be extant chapter or home brew, pre-heresy, dw version of extant model, no chapter (that exists as a faction itself!) - whatever you desire!
@ Mabrothrax: good to have you back buddy and on board! Don't know what you mean about your cupboard @ rigeld2: well there's nothing stopping 2 (or more) folk using the same base chapter). Chaplain sounds cool and late August still gives you time.
@d-usa: any =][= pad will do; nothing wrong even with a plain pad with a freehand/penned-on logo is fine!
I'm in, Currently thinking on an Assault Marine though I wont have my bits available till early august (after pay day). Sat on a box of spare bitz but after checking and rechecking it doesnt include any marine torso's or legs :( I do however have some funky weaponry to make it interesting.
Bits of an odd question, does the WIP shot need to be one assembled but unpainted model, or can I do a WIP of each of my bits unpainted prior to assembly. Reason for asking is that I am currently lacking the torso/legs/jumppack for my model but am eager to get started on painting the arms, shoulder pads etc...
@miss dee: will do
@eldarain: absolutely fine to incorporate xenos scum - this is Deathwatch after all, it's what they do!
@melcavuk: bits wip is fine.
@rm2020: nice assemblage of parts. Neat use of gk termie loincloth, and the =][= is very swish indeed.
Travelling back from my hols tomorrow, so aiming to post bases out by end of the week.
Eeeehm.. Graven.. I kind of messed up and forgot to take pics of the primed model. It's only a little paint on it yet so would that be ok for a wip-pic? it's still in parts. Secondly, would it be acceptable with a terminator base for a marine in powerarmor?
I am making a DW Captain (Pyre Wardens Chapter) and he got a bit too.. heavy for a regular 30mm. Whole friggin' thing is white metal, keeps falling over because of the damn cape..
WIP for my Deathwatch Assault Marine, chapter of Origin Angels Infernus. Pictures make it hard to see but there is a deathwatch pad at the bottom left. Sorry for the bitz appearance, the rest of the model is enroute but I intend to paint some of these bits when the GS dries and wouldnt want to miss out on a WIP shot.
Hi guys. As one of the judges, I won't be commenting on specific entries until after the closing date of the competition, when Graven and I actually sit down and do the judging. But can I just say I'm very impressed with the standard of the projects so far. I'm very much looking forward to seeing all the finished entries.
I'm back from my hols (just driven for 8 1/4 hrs with a 20 min comfort break!); still waiting on some bases I ordered whilst away (grr... unimpressed...) so will post out soon as.
Deathwatch Pad comes with commander upgrade sprue or in the Deathwatch upgrade pack I believe. Failing that it can be made with GS on a blank shoulder pad or painted on similarly (inquisitorial I with scriptures)
Well whilst by all means lend your expert eye and advice I'd encourage you to let her build it herself as it is a competition so should be her own effort, really.
Just received a trunk and backseat full of vintage GW stuff (books, bits, full armies) from a former GW regional manager so I will have EPIC bits for my guy. For free!! woot!!
So here's my wip. I haven't finished touching up the minor things such as mold lines and other gunk. Other aesthetics (purity seals, possible loin cloth etc) will be finalized and added as work progresses.
I would like to mention that this is my first submission to the world; my first post or upload of my work, let alone any competition. This model is also a part of my first army I've built, too (progress/army blog coming soon)
Good luck to everyone in the competition
Black Templar Deathwatch Terminator Captain -- Addendum: Legion Proioxis
I'm doing two models, first a Red Scorpion marine (sergeant or some such). I will add some more details, but I want this model to look clean and efficient, a recent conscript.
Second, a grizzled terminator (Lamenter or Emporer's Scythes)
This guy is gonna look mean, a lot of battle damage, weathering, trophies and such.
There's something about the Cyclone that I really like, I can't decided if it works here or not though, opinions?
inmygravenimage wrote:Hey folks, I've updated the master list so if you can cast your eye over it I'd be much obliged as I'm sure to have missed out someone
Angels Infernus is me but listed on the name below me
And I have a full WIP shot in the thread which does more than the bits shot.
Battle Brother Illythian - Veteran Sergeant within the secretive Angels Infernus Black Guard, rumoured to guard the deepest secrets of their keep and the keys to their power. Currently serving with the Deathwatch as an rapid assault specialist. His Black Guard helmet crest and relic lightening claws denote personal victories within the chapter, and despite little knowledge of the Black Guard activities he has time and again proven his potency within the Death Watch as an unrelenting fighter.
Final image pic First time painting black armour so its not stellar but was alot of fun.
I can already see that this is going to be a very hard competition to judge.
Quick point though: When submitting your final entry, remember that the quality of the photograph is important. No point putting together and awesome mini with an even more awesome paint job if we can't see all the highlights.
Your not gunna believe this but some how I have lost my entry!! How the heck I did it I don't know! Will try to find it today or I'll have to start again!
Ok, I found it! Phew!
Also, could I base it on a larger base but the same style as the ones you recommend, because I want to put a slain ravener on his base?...
Ok, here are my WIP pictures. Please let me know what you think about the hat, don't know whether to keep it or not.
Quite a bit of green stuff work has gone in to this, although no plasticard work like I was hoping to have done!
Should have some pics of w.i.p to show you soon too :-) not sure if i'll go crazy or just try and get a good paint job down on him? I do love these little comps that keep popping up at the moment it really brings everyone together and motivates and inspires so thanks Graven! ... legend!
I'm still hoping to get my entry done, I did make a start but i've had a few distractions (some un-avoidable, some watching Olmypics based )
Some interesting looking stuff so far though.
I like both the Emperor's Scythes and Death watch ideas. How ever i dont think i can free hand tiny little scythes but i can free hand the death guard symbol.
I'm close to getting started on mine. Bought some kits yesterday for bashing. Still need to get a couple more pieces. Specifically the inquisitorial shoulderpad.
^RM2020 - good to know! Anyone who has pm'd me for a base has had one sent to them (£3 shipping to the US - jeez...) and I know that some folk have received all over the globe. LMK if yours doesn't materialize.

£3 for shipping to the US?! Damn. Should have said something. I would have tracked one down here.
Bummer, I just saw this thread. I may have to find a good reason to add to my Deathwatch squad and show it here. I've had and entire ten-man squad painted since they came out in 3rd edition, so I can post one of them- but only painted, not raw.
Looking great guys, there's some fantastic conversions and paintjobs coming through. And thanks to you guys for organising this competition, its great seeing the talent of dakka put to a task.
@Melcavuk: I agree, and seeing the wip shots is really inspiring for building in general; and kind words indeed sir!
Re: not having a WIP shot - it's to ensure you're not claiming someone else's work as you own basically. If it only applies to a couple of folk I'm willing to be flexible, and be trusting, assuming Leadlegion's happy with that also.

Nah, don't worry about it, I will be painting a good chunk of my army as Deathwatch so no need to change rules on my behalf.

Yup, that's fine with me as well. However, if it's from your third edition days, I'd recommend you make another one and re-post the pictures. After all, if you're painting and modelling skills have improved considerably in the space of three editions, I'd be extremely surprised.
Also, I'd go so far as to say it's okay provided none of the other entrants object. If even one competitor does object (even if it's just in a private message), I reckon we'd have to say no.
Ah, that's ok about the before-and-after shots. I used up my gift certificates the wife and mother gave me for my 30th b-day just today. After seeing an old 2nd edition model is still being sold on the website, I realized my Deathwatch squad has been slaughtering aliens without an Apothecary to recover any fallen brother's gene-seed! Heresy!
So alongside some Eldar Wraithguard I have an additional battle-brother on the way to paint up to join my squad.
Shoulder pad arrived today. So I've got two things set... the base and the pad. Just need to start going through kits to pick bits out for the rest of the marine.
Hi gang,
Leadlegion were chatting Tuesday there and we both felt that, whilst the standard of minis we're seeing is frankly breathtaking, some of the photos are letting y'all down (hey, I'm as guilty of this as anyone). I recommend this:

Awesome stuff cropping up by some VERY talented people regarding this Deathwatch comp! makes me kind of want to pull my entry in embarrassment but I have started assembly and this is where he stands tonight, I'm looking forward to starting him tomorrow and trying to do a decent paint on him!
So where are people getting their deathwatch shoulder pads from? I've had a look on the GW website, but can't see them. Is ebay the only option? I can only seem to find them in singles there, and I'm looking to make a few squads to add as allies to my Grey Knights. This thread is great for inspiration by the way!

My initial squad is from when they first came out so I was able to get the metal shoulders, heads and bolters set. For any further expansions to them I am using the pad from the plastic Command Squad, or the Terminator Squad pad for my Captain in Terminator armor.
inmygravenimage wrote:TSDW? (acronym alert!) interesting idea, look forward tofu further WIPs. The head looks gs'd - your own work?
I am going with a press-molded copy of one of the old metal scouts' head to save time. I was going to sculpt one, but I have other stuff taking up my time right now. There will be lots of other sculpted detail on him though.

Now I got some news from FW today. Not good news, although not exactly bad news; more news:
The molds for some of the components of the Storm Eagle are stuffed, and they're going to remake them from scratch. Whilst this is a good thingTM, insofar as no one else will have to deal with the living hell that is assembling them as they stand, it does mean an indefinite delay on the kit they were due to send me out.
Clearly, this is awkward, as I intended to offer this as one of the prizes. How do folk feel about this? Does it affect your willingness to enter? Would you be prepared to wait if you won? Will I save it for another contest further down the line.
Given that its a free to enter competition that has whipped up a frenzy of awesome conversions and stunning paint jobs I think a minor delay on a potential prize wouldn't be the most devastating thing in the world. I couldn't speak for all those entering but my main aim in entering wasn't to specifically place (I know my limits) or for a specific prize, but to take part in something that tested my talents and pushed me to paint/convert something I haven't done before (Black armour).
I'm already taking away from the competition a new crest scheme to spread throughout my tactical marines, so I'm chalking my involvement up as a success.
^ Fair point - but that's the thing, it's not for me, or I'd just be mildly irked. Or possibly orked (can you be [/i]mildly[/i] orked? Hello, I've come to talk about the Waaagh, if it's not too much bother.) But my initial impression is folk don't seem overly fussed, which is a relief.

I WAS WRONG BEFORE I MEAN I WOULD BE OUTRAGED OMG HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME I WANT MY MONEY BACK
Seriously Graven, if people are gonna be cheesed about waiting for a prize that's been put up by a fellow Dakkaite then those people aren't the ones you would want entering anyway! as i see it, all of us entrants are doing it not for the glory or gains but for the fun and friendship things like this bring to everyone! it tests our creativity and we push ourselves due to the inspiring work others produce! so thank you for even having a competition for us :-)
Wait, what? There are prizes?
Only joking, I knew there were prizes, but i doubt I'd win.
I enter these things for fun.
If I did win though, I wouldn't care if the prize I got was late.
Here's my WIP for the competition. He doesn't have his shoulderpads on yet, but that will come soon. Spacewolf with a power weapon and storm bolter..... is it legal rules-wise? Nope. Awesome? Yep. Gotta get him painted up soon, there's a lot of great models so far!
Guh! I made a ten man squad of these guys... Going to run them as company commanders with a chaplin and a librarian in either stormraven or thunderhawk. Should be a pretty epic apoc unit. With a T hawk its like 3k for one unit.
I managed to start my Marine today still a fair bit of work to do but he has the base of all his colours on him and his face is nearly done, just some tidying up there! i'm not sure if I like him yet but once I lay more paint down hopefully he'll get better and inspire me to pull through and finish him

While not exactly irked about having to wait for a potential elective prize, I did have some reservations about what that initial prizes were to begin with.
I would have expected something more universal, perhaps? Maybe a dreadnought/bit or some other custom Forgeworld kit or bits that could be used
by those who don't have the option to field a Stormeagle (e.g. a faction specific shoulder-pad kit, dreadnought weapon of choice, etched brass aquila kit etc).
Even something like a FW/GW gift certificate or card which the winner could use at their own leisure would be a cool little gift to win from a humble
competition such as this.
I, personally, wouldn't really prefer any other prize such as the custom painted/built minis (no offense, I just enjoy doing my own work!), which is
why I would suggest something a bit more "universal" in terms of the flexibility of each specific competitor and their army. I mean, the prize isn't
everything, but if I were to win, as it is I just don't see myself choosing really anything at all.. again, no offense!
Either way, the prize isn't everything, I know. But, all in all, even if I did win and didn't choose anything at all, I'd still very much appreciate the potential
recognition I would 'win' from merely having my work being here on Dakka at all.
huh....I actually have a space wolf deathwatch model that's already half painted...I guess if I reprimed him like I was planning anyways then I could do this.....
Too much primer really obscured a lot of the details. I'll probably set this one aside and just use during games as a regular Devastator with Heavy Bolter..
I started over with a new Deathwatch Space Marine. This one I decided to have using a Thunder Hammer.
I plan to start painting tomorrow. The real challenge will be putting on the Ultramarine transfer... I'm terrible at transfers.

Bah! It's seriously as easy as immersing him fully into a dish of Simple Green, and coming back in a couple of days with a toothbrush to take off the paint that it will peel up. At worst, there will be some small details(eyes, etc) that you will need to scratch the head of a pin into to get the blackout of, if you care to at all.

There are a couple of other very good stripping Tutorials in the Tutorials section of the forum if you do a quick search, this is probably the easiest AFAIK, at least over this side of the pond, i dont know if Dettol is avilable to you guys, I think Simple Green (sp?) is the alternative.
@Dee: not unless you want to. You'll get some sort of man doll recompense.
2 weeks to go! Wow! Can't believe the enthusiasm and creativity this contest has spurred. Hopefully, there will becan exciting announcement tomorrow, too - be sure to check back!
wow can't believe I missed this. I have a ton of bits to make single marines for stuff like this. count me in. hoorah 3 day weekend. i'll get crackin on one tonight.
Myrthan wrote:That marine looks really nice :3 How did you do the red?
It is started from the black undercoat worked up with chaos black and scab red then through scab red to a lighter red like mephiston red. Sorry about the old colour names I haven't got many of the new paints yet.

Thank you for the link. I've actually have the materials necessary to strip as suggested by another tutorial. I just don't really have the time or facilities to really attempt it. In fact, I'm barely finding time to paint due to crazy work schedules. I'm not sure if I'll have the marine done in time to turn it in on the deadline. While it is a couple weeks away there's still the matter of shipping the model overseas... I have to account for the time that will take.
Good to know! Sometimes when I ship overseas it seems to take weeks before arrival.
I wish I had kept the Heavy Bolter Deathwatch marine now. Decided to donate him to a guy who's looking to get his kids in the game and was looking for any models people could spare.

There is a way to properly salvage the mini and restore it as new!! This will work for anyone
who as done something similar to djphrang with either over priming or over painting a mini.
This method works for both metal AND plastic as it is both easy on the material yet strong enough
to strip the paint thoroughly. A very nice balance indeed!!
So really, pro-tip to all:
First, wash it with soap and warm water. No scrubbing, just a general pre-soak/wash.
Next, you need to fully submerse the mini in Pine Sol (BRAND Pine Sol, not any knock off, unless
you know for sure it's comprised of the exact same natural ingredients. Bad or harsh ingredients can
and will result in a MELTED mini, no joke!!) for about 15-30 minutes.
You should notice the paint gradually coming off on it's own, or if it's really settled in, check it
after an initial 10 minutes and every 5 minutes after that; the paint should come off with gentle
rubbing with a Q-Tip.
Repeat soaking until desired results (e.g. all or most paint is off), but do not let it sit too long alone in
the Pine Sol (hours or more) because it can start to dissolve the mini. But no worries, It takes a long, long
while before it starts doing this, and only blatant negligence can really result in such a thing happening, but..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REMEMBER: Do NOT use any other solvents. NONE -- ONLY"Pine Sol" brand cleaner (or, cleaner that is
comprised of the SAME natural ingredients). Other solvents are TOO harsh and will dissolve the mini outright. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Generic acetone brush cleaner and a Q-Tip will also work to a slighter effect, but will:
1) take much longer
and
2) could potentially ruin the mini with too much use.
I haven't used acetone to a greater extent to fully test what could happen to the mini, but would rather recommend
simply using the Pine Sol method instead.
Once you've achieved your desired results, do a final soap/warm water wash and dry thoroughly.
NEVER use Acetone on plastic minis!!! It'll turn any given marine into a pile of Nurglings faster than you can say "By the Emperor's golden codpiece"
Even acetone free nail polish remover tends to melt plastic if you dont pay attention.
For metals, theres no better stripper. soak it in a pot of acetone for five minutes and EVERYTHING comes off it. Glue, paint, Greenstuff.
My recommendation is Superclean for stripping. its an automotive engine degreaser, and its great for stripping paint! I use it almost exclusively. It takes a little for the mini to soak (figure overnight is best) but after that paint just peels off. Best of all, theres no chance for the mini to melt- Ive left a marine in a pot of Superclean for more than 4 months and the only thing that happened to it was all the GS dissolved on it.
Too much primer really obscured a lot of the details. I'll probably set this one aside and just use during games as a regular Devastator with Heavy Bolter..
I plan to start painting tomorrow. The real challenge will be putting on the Ultramarine transfer... I'm terrible at transfers.
Now, enjoy your "reset" mini!!
well thats bogus. there are several products that can salvage that mini. Simple Green, Purple Power to name a couple. just because one works doesn't mean its the end. Purple power has never destroyed any of my mini's, and some have been sitting in there for months. plastic metal AND resin.
needless to say, that model is salvageable.
the real problem, is how much you're over spraying your primer. it should be a light mist over the mini, not an actual covering. very very little actually has to be used.
I have to bow out. Been too busy with other stuff recently and haven't had time to work on my Chaplain (or any minis for that matter...) No way I'll have time to finish him how I'd like before the deadline.
Good luck to everyone still in. I look forward to seeing the results!
Sergeant Rhaiel has been on secondment to the Ordo Xenos for nearly four decades. He is currently under the command of Inquisitor Brakhas who is leading a purge of the Eldar from an Imperial system in the Nephritie sector. His power fist is a chapter heirloom which has been cosmetically modified with the Inquisition's seal. Rhaiel has become particularly adept in it's use during his near century and a half of service to the Emperor. Rhaiel has been sited for many honours both in his service to his chapter and to the Ordo Xenos but chief amoung these was the killing of an Eldar Farseer saving the life of Inquisitor Brakhas. Rhaiel is due to return to the chapter in another 12 years once he has completed his half century of service to the Ordo Xenos.
@ Reaper Man - Nice job. I really like the way he turned out. Nice touch with the fluff as well. A little wordy blurb always helps point out some details, such as the powerfist.
This is brother Laesus of the Liberi Mortis chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. His respiratory system was savaged by a Tyranid bio plasma attack in his first mission with the Deathwatch. His deep rooted hatred of the Great Devourer has made reintegration with his chapter almost impossible. He will die in the service of the Ordo Xenos.
Well, that's it: Competition officially closed to further entrants! Thankyou all for your hard work, time and support of this little affair. Thrilled it spurred on such creativity from so many folk. Leadlegion and myself are often to mutter in dark corners, we'll give you a result soon as!
I realize the contest is over, but I just feel like adding some pictures of my Deathwatch Marines to this thread just to add to the awesomeness.
My story is that I got into a Deathwatch campaign before I ever got into playing 40k. After a few months, the itch got to me and I started playing. Early on, I decided to go with Codex Marines and dress them up as Deathwatch. This has been awesome for me because it's meant that I could kit bash and do marines from all different chapters. So to make my marines, I got the Deathwatch conversion kits and stole bits from my friends so I could do Space Wolves and Blood Angels, and then got a box of Dark Angels Veterans and the Black Templar upgrade kit to let me do some other chapters. A lot of my army is still unpainted, but these are some of the models that have gotten done.
The result has been delayed because of a planning mishap on my part (entirely my fault too). I managed to book last weekend for moving the studio to new premises. It's taken me until today to sort out regular internet access. Graven and I will put our heads together and come up with a winner as soon as we can. I've only just now sent him my short list for us to compare notes.
Sorry guys. Just bear with me for a little bit longer.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Meanwhilenerdfest09 is sponsoring a "Squad Leader" painting competition! The prize is the first-ever "Golden Bathtub" award (inspired by a photo that was so, so wrong) Here's the link: Nerdfest's Squad Leader painting competition. Do go join in the party!
As a way to bump this back to the front page and shamelessly show off my own work, I bring more Deathwatch goodness:
These were my first Deathwatch figures, for use in the Kill-team scenario.
Rules-wise, they use the Dark Angels Venteran rules and add up to an even 200 points.
And if it wasn't obvious...
Imperial Fist with thunder hammer and storm shield
Salamander with flamer
Ultramarine (Sgt.) with stormbolter and bolt pistol
Dark Angel with plasma cannon
Crimson Fist with power fist.
Right folks, just to say that the announcement will be made tomorrow! You'll notice the first page of the thread change somewhat, and I'll also post at the current point in thread. In advance, I'd just like to say thanks to you all for your enthusiasm and efforts! It's been really inspiring to see such creativity from you all.
ReaperMan2020!
Both LeadLegion and myself were blown away by the quality of the entries as a whole, but this really was outstanding. The dynamism of the pose and use of components was great, the freehand fantastic and overall composition of the piece just nailed it! As well as the storm eagle kit he wins the trophy (yup, mystery prize!) which he'll have to show you himself...
Runner-Up:
STC Logis Engine
Again, a wonderful effort and only a hair's breadth behind the winner. The edge highlighting was particularly impressive, and the composition of the base elements had a great narrative.
Honourable Mention:
Amber
This was also great for a number of reasons. For capturing the feel of the contest, this was one was cracker, really dynamic and exciting. Some lovely touches in the painting too, such as the fur.
There were other great elements throughout this contest - melcavuk's conversion work and Tazzy's first paintjob to name just a couple - but more than anything I've found it a joy to run! The original offer still stands: if you wish to send me your finished fig, just pm me, and you'll get one back in return. Thanks to Leadlegion for helping with the hard choices, and again to the of you for all your support!
Whoop! Great news, I am so pleased to win. What a fun competition to take part in and I really liked all the other entries. I hope that those who didn't get to finish in time show us when they are done. A big thanks to Graven and Lead Legion for running the competition, very generous with the prizes too Graven!
There were seem really fantastic entries, both in terms of modelling and in terms of painting. It was an absolute pleasure to judge and a great way to meet pretty cool gamers. Thanks for entering -and thanks to Graven for inviting me to help judge the comp.
Fun competition I must say! *slowclaps for LL and Graven* Was a really great inspitation to test my skills towards minimalistic palette of colours and solidify my mastery of black.
