I am going with a press-molded copy of one of the old metal scouts' head to save time. I was going to sculpt one, but I have other stuff taking up my time right now. There will be lots of other sculpted detail on him though.

Loving some of the work here! The aliens eggs with the terminator chaplain are soooo cool, the guy with the tenticles reminds me of the captain of the flying dutchman in pirates of the caribbean! Really looking forward to seeing them painted even though they will be in direct competition with me!

Now I got some news from FW today. Not good news, although not exactly bad news; more news:
The molds for some of the components of the Storm Eagle are stuffed, and they're going to remake them from scratch. Whilst this is a good thingTM, insofar as no one else will have to deal with the living hell that is assembling them as they stand, it does mean an indefinite delay on the kit they were due to send me out.

Clearly, this is awkward, as I intended to offer this as one of the prizes. How do folk feel about this? Does it affect your willingness to enter? Would you be prepared to wait if you won? Will I save it for another contest further down the line.

Excuse me while I go

Not that my opinion matters since I likely won't be able to get a WIP up or finish in time, it wouldn't matter to me.

Given that its a free to enter competition that has whipped up a frenzy of awesome conversions and stunning paint jobs I think a minor delay on a potential prize wouldn't be the most devastating thing in the world. I couldn't speak for all those entering but my main aim in entering wasn't to specifically place (I know my limits) or for a specific prize, but to take part in something that tested my talents and pushed me to paint/convert something I haven't done before (Black armour).

I'm already taking away from the competition a new crest scheme to spread throughout my tactical marines, so I'm chalking my involvement up as a success.

We refuse to take sides in this anymore. And we refuse to let you turn us against one another. We know who we are now, we can find our own way between order and chaos...

It's over because we've decided it's over. Now get the hell out of our galaxy! Both of you.

^ Fair point - but that's the thing, it's not for me, or I'd just be mildly irked. Or possibly orked (can you be [/i]mildly[/i] orked? Hello, I've come to talk about the Waaagh, if it's not too much bother.) But my initial impression is folk don't seem overly fussed, which is a relief.

Seriously Graven, if people are gonna be cheesed about waiting for a prize that's been put up by a fellow Dakkaite then those people aren't the ones you would want entering anyway! as i see it, all of us entrants are doing it not for the glory or gains but for the fun and friendship things like this bring to everyone! it tests our creativity and we push ourselves due to the inspiring work others produce! so thank you for even having a competition for us :-)

Wait, what? There are prizes?
Only joking, I knew there were prizes, but i doubt I'd win.
I enter these things for fun.
If I did win though, I wouldn't care if the prize I got was late.

Here's my WIP for the competition. He doesn't have his shoulderpads on yet, but that will come soon. Spacewolf with a power weapon and storm bolter..... is it legal rules-wise? Nope. Awesome? Yep. Gotta get him painted up soon, there's a lot of great models so far!

Guh! I made a ten man squad of these guys... Going to run them as company commanders with a chaplin and a librarian in either stormraven or thunderhawk. Should be a pretty epic apoc unit. With a T hawk its like 3k for one unit.

I managed to start my Marine today still a fair bit of work to do but he has the base of all his colours on him and his face is nearly done, just some tidying up there! i'm not sure if I like him yet but once I lay more paint down hopefully he'll get better and inspire me to pull through and finish him

yepp yepp..

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

While not exactly irked about having to wait for a potential elective prize, I did have some reservations about what that initial prizes were to begin with.
I would have expected something more universal, perhaps? Maybe a dreadnought/bit or some other custom Forgeworld kit or bits that could be used
by those who don't have the option to field a Stormeagle (e.g. a faction specific shoulder-pad kit, dreadnought weapon of choice, etched brass aquila kit etc).
Even something like a FW/GW gift certificate or card which the winner could use at their own leisure would be a cool little gift to win from a humble
competition such as this.

I, personally, wouldn't really prefer any other prize such as the custom painted/built minis (no offense, I just enjoy doing my own work!), which is
why I would suggest something a bit more "universal" in terms of the flexibility of each specific competitor and their army. I mean, the prize isn't
everything, but if I were to win, as it is I just don't see myself choosing really anything at all.. again, no offense!

Either way, the prize isn't everything, I know. But, all in all, even if I did win and didn't choose anything at all, I'd still very much appreciate the potential
recognition I would 'win' from merely having my work being here on Dakka at all.

Just a personal suggestive rant/response

In light of the competition: Good luck, everyone!

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun
