The title speaks for itself lol. Post a time you played a game with an opponent who annoyed the fun out of the game. Did he cheat? Take the rules to verbatim? Not know his rules at all? Smelt of monkey farts? Please don't use names just refer to this person as "opponent" or "John Doe" if you have to.

Ill start with a game I played a couple days ago. I schedualed a game with a friend at our local gw but this kid comes up and asks if he could play one of us. I knew my friend played a game earlier that day and our appointment was last minute anyway, so we decided that I'd play play this kid cuz I felt bad. he stated he was practicinghe was practicing for tourney games so I was like "o.k, ill try to be as tourney as I can for ya but you might win cuz I'm trying a new list out". We both had dark eldar and well... He was so annoying. As in he kept debating rules that were obviousley wrong! To name a few:

1. he insisted he read that units in assualt vehicles can assault OUT of the vehicle DURING the assualt phase. He did this cuz he couldn't claim objectives and tried to assault out to get them and got really mad
2. Then he insisted that units could move there charge range even if they failed
3. Then he stated archon shadow field 2++ could still be used in the same turn that it failed, and didn't go away until his next turn. When I asked why he was rolling one at a time (like you should since it goes away AFTER it breaks) he screamed "CUZ I WANT TOO!!!!"

This was just a few. Kid won by one point but I let him get away with more then I should. I guess I found it pointless to argue with a kid lol! I was informed latter he was infomouse for this lol. Anyway give me some of your most annoying experiences and how you dealt with it. Tanks much

One of my brothers friends. I refuse to play him anymore.

He will argue any rule in your turn if it goes against him. He will argue it to the point of reading the rulebook back to back until you have had enough and kick him in the ass to stop being an idiot. When he doesn't find it, he will insist on rolling off - not that it's a conflicting rule, jus tthat he doesn't think it should be going your way and not his.

He does this all the time. Every turn. He drags an hour long game out to several hours.

My egular opponent has a habit of measuring from the front of the base to the back of the bease when moving to get extra movement and also 'twisting' the direction of a scatter roll to be any direction but towards his units. I've overcome this by calling him on his movement practices and rolling scatter die as close to the target as possible.

This one guys,
1: Night fight, he kills one of my models, gets upset because it was just a servitor
2:My turn, I kill SO MUCH of his army, like wipe out a tank and an entire Walker squardron. He nearly calls it quits after that.
3: he gets upset because im following the rules where you have to take the second result of the roll(he made it, but didn't realized and failed the second roll)
4: Just wasnt fun

Up against a GK player, back in 5th,

Guy is a little slow, and any time he has a rules issue he screams across the game room to his brother (who is playing in the same tournament against his own opponent) for a clarification every single time.

The TO is standing right there. I'm not 3 feet away, rulebook at the ready. We have two guys hanging around who are rules gurus watching the game.

The git will only listen to his brother. Everyone else is lying, unless his bro confirms it.

His bro last played in 3rd ed, and only bought the 5th ed rulebook that day as his tournament entry...And he will only confirm rules that help his brothers cheesy-ass list, bending rules and FAQs when needed or utterly misquoting rules from prior editions..

Yeah.... He was fun.

One opponent I was playing, my Orks vs dark eldar. Just horrible from turn one. Bad sportsmen ship. Bad pre measuring for distance. Throwing dice. Abusing jet bike rules. Just horrible. Haven't played him since. Thinking back for all my games(started in march this year) that has been my only horrible opponent. I've had bad games, angry dice gods, but good players who love the game as much as I do, and try to remember its just a game.

There's this one guy I refuse to play with unless he types out his list and gives me a copy, because any game he doesn't, he says he is "severely under pointed" when hes deploying and he adds more models to the field. Then after the game, when I run his army through its codex, i come to find out he fielded 2000 points in a 1500 point game

One thing that annoys me about a lot of players (or stand byers) is when they point out what they believe are flaws in your strategy. I can think of some examples. like this guy questioning why I took a hexrifle on a haemy ancient and inputed that he thought it was a stupid choice. My honest answer was simpley "cuz its my army, and it looks cool my friend" I know rhey might not mean harm but it is a pepeev

A pet peeve of mine is when this kid asks to watch nicely eho said he never played before in which we reply sure. Then all of a sudden this kid knows so much about strategy and flanking, art of war and call of duty, ugg the smell was horrible. It didn't hit till after a minute or 2. Like a stentch crawling at you. He finally left but that was still a bad smell. I hate when people don't showed and smell horrible. There is a difference in the I'm sorry about my BO I was working earlier, and the more common just never change or shower kind.

I played a guy at my FLGS that was absolutely HORRIBLE.
He refused to buy any GW models. Fine, I understand that the prices are pretty high. So he proxied everything. Here's the problem. He usedsthings like pirate ships and little green army men for his Guard and Chimeras (there are many worse examples). The sizes arent even close to proportional.
The worst part is that he will just switch which units are what and what they have. Because its all proxied, theirs no way to tell. A vet unit with meltaguns will change next turn into a company command squad to issue orders or the leader now has a power fist instead of a CCW. No body could call him on it because there was no way to tell what anything was.
Eventually, he was banned from the store for cheating and was arrested for tax fraud. I've never seen him since. He was easily the worst opponent I've ever seen and played.

That reminds me Loooooopooong time ago I had one kid come up to my sisters 40k game lecturing everyone how a real mans game is cod yadda yadda yadda. Now I'm more of a passive person, and will speak my mind in the most dier of situations. But my sister? Total opposite. She ripped him apart in the most colorful of verbage one could do.

Oh and another time I was at a gw located in a mall, enjoying good times when a group of religious nuts yried to baptize us and started singing outside the store. Now please note, iv done some missionary work but there's a time and place for everything. The way they did it just left a bad taste in everyones mouth

Theres one guy that I've played against a couple of times who I find a bit annoying to play. He's a decent guy and everything, he just cares way more about the win than having awesome things happen during the game. He always uses WAAC lists even in casual games. and never uses any units that are less than the best in the codex. I understand that for some people, winning is what makes the game fun, but he really makes the game less fun for others.

I used to play with a group from HS. We were the Strategic Gaming Club, but most of us were friends, except this one guy who should have been born in the Imperium. He would argue every rule every roll, all my fluff "would never happen" but that wasn't the end of it. If his dice rolled bad, he would say 'oh it rolled off the table'. He thought because he was JROTC he was some excellent strategist, but he just had some good SM lists and couldn't handle a 3 person fight. He mixed rules from different rulebooks and Codices even though we used 3rd mostly and the rest of us used one codex. He was no fun, I didn't care if my Orks won I just relished when a PK exploded something or I got some good kills, It was about being nerds with your other nerd friends and smoking a cigar when your warboss doesn't give a and destroys a tac squad or two by himself.

We play in house and never play torneys, we smoke and drink and play a "gentleman's game". That being said you believe that everyone would try to make the game as enjoyabler as possible since nothing is on the line except friendship.

We have one friend who is always trying to get one up on everyone.

-We always have to check his list's math. He's been over as much as 500 points before. When's the last time you carried the 5?

-he always places walls down and makes everything lethal terrain and complains when you do it.

-has never physically read the rules but will argue you down if he disagrees with you. Still wants to roll off when you find the rule in question in the book.

-will ask what your playing tonight, then proceed to "tailor" a list to beat yours.

You may ask ourself why we kep this guy around.........has the finest greenery in the state.

I love having people ask what I'm using! I tell them hoarde guard and the. Play land raider rock space marines. It annoys them to no end!

But my most annoying opponent isn't really that bad. He's just the basic type to argue a rule ONLY if it benefits him. He also only uses the best codex's guard/grey knights/and others. And god forbid you forge one thing and ask to re-do in a friendly game. Like this example, I moved all my units but 1 then moved onto shooting, I forgot to move the one unit and had only ran another unit in shooting phase, I ask for a redo to move the one unit. He says no and kind of laughs saying should have thought about it, this is fine in tournament games and I'd never even ask, but Ina friendly game? Srsly?

I freely tell them i play Orks.

They then tailor up for anti-horde with flamers and low-strength cover-ignoring pieplates.

Then my Battlewagon Meganobz or (less often these days) my Walkers of Doom roll over them.

'No Fair! You said you were playing Orks!'

'I am. Said nothing about it being Green Tide '

Next game, watch them tailor their SM lists for antitank.. Pull out Green Tide

Orks are so much fun at times

Honestly, I'm not bad at reading which opponent I should play, and when I do get paired up with someone I know I'll hate, that's the benefit of playing Necrons: you always have the option to roll out the cheese. It's the only situation I will, but it's good that it's an option.

What I truly can't stand is some of the people who come to the table and comment, particularly the tooth-grinding "that's not wysiwyg!" comments. I like to custom-build my armies. Yes, I have a necrospinx defiler and sang-thousand sons raptors. No, my opponent doesn't have a problem with that, I told him what everything is and has before the game started and it's clearly on my list. No, he didn't get a "points handicap" for me not having the right models.

Seems like people are getting more and more interested in commenting on other peoples' games instead of playing their own.

My most annoying opponent would probably be my best friend. He plays Necrons (Because I described them as Robot Zombie Space Skeletons originally) and pretty much knows what all I have and what I typically run, so I can never take any heavy support vehicles because he'll just glance them all to death. It's not really annoying, perse, but I get annoyed when I can't feel safe bringing in a Defiler or Fiend.
But, it is hilarious when I start mixing up my lists. I decided to bring in Ahriman with TSons once, Infiltrated next to his Immortals, and just tore them apart.

There is a guy I used to play with that was most definitely a WAAC player and pulled a bunch of crap like quitting if he looked like he was going to lose and loved to argue about every rule in the game. But the final straw for me was that he tried to act like some type of gang banger and to match his gang he did an army called 'Crip Angels' right after I had bought the BA army I had at the time. Oh and as someone stated earlier about hygiene......he had none.

While I have a personal hate for obtuse power gamers who think there's nothing wrong with always bringing the 'uber competitive lists to the local 'friendly gaming nights' and see nothing wrong with clubbing baby seals, my 'most annoying opponent' would be the guy who's also a complete WAAC's crybaby.

For example, when we were helping to run an independent league, this guy was infamous for tailoring his list to his opponent and then very smugly going on about how, "my leafblower can't be killed by MEQ's - this is going to be a two-turn game at most!" and similar.
So, the one week, his opponent had to re-shedual their game for a later date and this gakker was left to try and look for a pick-up game. Not wanting the younger kids to get roflstomped by the donkycave, I told him I'd give him a game that would probably be more fun than killing Little Timmy's AoBR based Marines.
He wasn't super thrilled about it, but asked me what army I'd be using. I told him 'Chaos'. So he waddled off to tailor his list for CSM's.

During deployment, he won the roll-off and told me to deploy first. I looked at the table, and announced, "I'm done!" He looked somewhat dumbfounded and after a few seconds told me there's no way to play a 'drop pod' CSM army legally and Forgeworld wasn't allowed. I told him that my codex's deployment forces me to always Deep Strike in on Turn 1.
Then he cried foul that I'd lied because I told him I was playing CSM's! To which I told him, 'Chaos' can also be Daemons!

Suffice to say, his maxed-out melta-vets & Exterminators were pretty fething useless against my Tzeentch/Slaanesh force and his mech wall was torn apart in short order by my Bolts/Breaths, Screamers, rending units and The Changeling!

He quit after the third turn calling me a cheater because I'd lied to him about what army I was playing... Whatever, the guy's a total terd and when my manager heard what I'd done to him, he bought me some more Daemons for being the person who caused the donkeycave to quit and never darken our store again!

I always allow re-dos but if my opponent doesn't allow re-do neither do I. Same game for both.

Worst for me was Mr Stinky. Guy was huge but it smelled like he'd crapped himself. He also had this white'ish powder all over him. Didn't have a choice since it was a turny. Every so often a draft would come through and I'd try not to gag. I'm a nice guy and I don't know if he can help it or not so I just tried to be nice and not embarrass the guy. He had to know he stunck. Was not a fun game.

Worst opponent for me was a nice guy but stunk to high heaven. We nicknamed him Stink Ass Dude and eventually talked about him in a recap of the small tourney during one of our first HittingOn3s podcast episodes. We never used his real name so offer some semblance of anonymity to him.

The next time I played him? Didn't stink. Maybe the one day was a fluke or maybe he heard it and took it to heart. Who knows.

I did have a run in with a guy who liked to give me advice after beating me with a pretty cheesy list.

I suppose if those two are what I consider to be my "worst" opponent, I'm pretty lucky.

I haven't played in store since 4th edition so no new occurances but back then we had 2 guys everyone knew to watch out for.
The first one was this guy who would cheat in every game he could. When called upon it he always claimed ignorance or misunderstanding a rule but after your 3rd game you would figure it out. Whenever we played team games his teammate would always have to watch him to keep him from ruining everyone's good time.
The 2nd guy was someone who, in 10 years of playing him frequently, I have never beaten. Despite this record he had some anger issues and every time he failed 2 consecutive rolls he would curse then toss his dice across the room.
Now you might be wondering why we played with these 2 characters but I live in a smallish town and do not have an abundance of players. You play with those you can. The plus side to these guys is they were both owners of multiple armies and willing to play many different kind of games. Also once Mr. Angry left there were always free dice laying about

Back in 3rd edition I had a friend who would always fudge his list (extra 10-20% points), always have extra wargear (like vortex grenades) when we knew he hadn't bought it... but would rage quit/ go berserk if anyone questioned his integrity... always a little akward.

Right now I run a HS club, and other than some personality mismatches, I've been very pleased with how well 6-12 teenagers get along and how quickly they've picked up some pretty solid tactics. However, they can't sight scatter dice without fudging them to their advantage and their second and third row charge distances get extra inches all the time.

All in all, other than the occassional stranger showing up from another FLGS and not knowing where their house rules/ 4th edition hold overs end and the real rules begin, we don't have too many problems.

for me it would be one guy from our store league . the games dont have a time limit so before each of his phases and after each one of my he would go out and have a smoke . and yes this means doubling up stuff. he would smoke pregame , drop his pod , go out smoke , roll his turn and before my turn started go out to smoke again . after my first turn he would go out again etc etc. ultra anoying .

I recently had a kid lie and give evasive answers when I asked if his army was from the IG codex or if it was some FW variation. Totally fething lied, until I asked him why he wasn't rerolling after executions. I beat him, even though I held roughly 200 points out of the game.

The most annoying thing for me that can happen during a game is my opponent losing interest mid way through. One of my friends has this problem, and just wanders off and gets distracted with other things mid way through a game. If he's winning, then he's concentrating and interacting with the game without getting distracted, but the moment that he starts losing he seems to give up, disappear, and then return half an hour later, before completing a phase or so and wandering off again. He's a nice guy, just extremely annoying to play against half the time.

Yah I'm not talking about being in like assault phase and going back to movement or something. I had ran 1 unit after movement and asked to move 1 unit. Since I had only ran a unit it's not a huge jump back as its basically an extension of the movement phase. I agree though if you won't let me take a re do forget about asking cause you'll shut down QUICK.

my most annoying opponent is one of my best friends. because he keeps saying he's not good at 40k because he lost a lot with his old BA codex. the truth is he's about average, he just had a really old codex to work with. that and his "friend" he used to play with was a fan of the Matt Ward cheese mongering codexes, so it got drilled in his head that because his old BA codex couldn't beat GK he was a bad player. poor guy has an inferiority complex as a player now, but I'm trying to rehabilitate him.

I like to play the "new guy" card to gauge opponents. I still am new to the game (only about a years experience and only 2 months of 6) and like to see what my opponent does when faced with someone who won't call him on things. If they abuse that, then I just note to avoid playing them.

Had a guy the other week drop his vets out the back of a vendetta where the model scattered to the top of a large stack of boxes, with my crisis suits against the wall below. He landed right on the corner above my suits, so no way he could wrap the guys around the center. Didn't call it and instead started positioning the models away from the corner. Didn't even take a dangerous terrain check or anything. So I noted that I won't play against him if I have the chance. If I do, I'll make sure to call him out on anything since I know I can't trust him.

I can't stand that. I've stopped an opponent mid shooting phase because I realized I forgot to take dangerous terrain checks or leadership checks from earlier. I call myself if I find I did something wrong. And hate seeing a more experienced player taking advantage of another player.

I assume you aren't referring to the current ,far from old 2010 BA codex? That one is one of Ward's Cheese-mongering codexes too, but nowhere on the same scale of WTF as GK were in 5th. In 6th GK are a bit less broken, but still pretty potent.

If he's still using the previous (2007) BA codex then he has my sympathies and i suggest he updates his dex. It sucks at times to deal with new armies with an old codex army. I played Necrons before the new Ward-fest dex came out (2002 codex) and Dark Eldar (2003 codex iirc). I still play DE, but the new codex closed the power gap markedly.

I am a total advocate for this. If I forget a rule that benefited me, I insist on not redoing. Alternativley, if I forget a rule that would negativley affects me, I insist on redoing it. Especially when I play new players. I feel as a good player, I need to have standards for myself

he was using the 3rd edition codex IIRC. and I gave him the new codex for his B-day last month. now I'm told he creams his "friend" on a regular basis instead of being clubbed like a baby seal. also he and his "friend" were playing 5th edition until I gave him a 6th ed rulebook.

Recent game, playing my Necrons against this guys DE. Setting up the game and I'm unpacking my army while he's chatting to someone else, hasn't even begun to unpack his stuff yet, so I go out for a smoke while I'm waiting. Come back and again, he's wondered off to gaze at the display cabinet, army still unpacked. Many times during the game he's wondered off to ask people about rules discussions that have nothing to do with the game: A Necron vs Dark Eldar game, and he's getting into a discussion about the "Is the Black Mace Ap2 on a DP" scenario. I had to keep drawing him back into the game, until the end it got so tiresome. Each time someone new came into the store, the rules discussions started again. I won the game, but I wouldn't play him again anytime soon.

Yesterday, about 14 o'clock , a dry bush rolls past the gaming table and the enemy steps into the room.
From the tomb worlds of switzerland my friend has risen.
My Death Guard was suspecting a hard fight but then what do I see on the table? 10 croissants lurking around!
We're dead meat. Luckily I nuked the hell out of him and was able to hold all objectives.
Since then we call that guy "Gipfeli-Siech" (which means Croissant Ass in swiss dialect)

I'd hate to play against myself. I'm a tid bit conceited, mostly knowledgeable on all the rules, including faq's. More than playing the game I think rules lawyering is a hobby of mine Also I probably come off a little bit cocky. I don't try to, it just happens. 40k is something I'm pretty good at, dice tend to love me. Spent alot of times in Plans/Ops overseas, now I bring it to a 4x6 table haha

When I play a casual game, I try to let loose and just have fun. It's why I play orks, they look hilarious. I've even got decent at converting stuff, and am getting more into the modelling aspect.

That said though I like to play against everyone, but I find myself always telling them if they're doing something wrong. I also let them know if they're doing something "poorly" if there's a better way, also we go in depth about target priority.

God I must be annoying.

I had the problem with my older brother and M:tG. I actually got him into the game and gave him a bunch of cards. After that I was never able to win against him outside of times where I had extremely good luck and he had bad luck. Everyone else I atleast had a chance against, but I never could beat him.

And now I'm trying to get him into 40k.

Well first you are dishonest (a year and a half is long enough to know the rules). Then you let opponents break the rules (perhaps it was an honest mistake?). Why not just kindly point their mistake or misinterpretation out to them and carry on with the game? All you're doing by letting it slide is advocating this kind of behavior.

My most annoying opponent was a GW manager, who when faced with losing began throwing his models around the table (even breaking one) and generally having a tantrum like a child would. Couldn't really enjoy myself when the opponent is a grown man having a hissy fit about losing a game of toy soldiers.

I played a guy at a GT who at the beginning of the game said he was here for fun and to play the game and not get into arguments over rules. I said okay, shook his hand, and we got to playing.

He began challenging EVERYTHING I did or said, even when I was pointing something out for his benefit. He finally quit after I charged my thunderwolves through a wall (tournament rules specifically said that no terrain is impassable and that everything is area terrain, and my wolves had line of sight to their target). When challenged I pointed out that no terrain is impassable, etc, and that I was following the rules by charging through the wall as it was the most direct route to the target. Still, I offered to simply charge them around the wall instead (I had the distance). Instead, he quit because he "didn't want to play in an edition where you can do things like charge through walls."

First I would like to say that the people who have posted that guys they played were annoying for brining competitive lists need to get a reality check, especially the poster who said this about someone they played in a tournament. Competitive play is just as valid as casual play, and too often casual gamers act like they are on a high horse and act like competitive gamers are bad people. If you don't want a competitive game then tell the guy before hand, otherwise you have no right to complain, unless he is being an ass or cheating.

Also people should learn what WAAC actually means before using it, because a list can't be WAAC. And players who use competitive lists aren't WAAC. Players who cheat and lawyer are WAAC.

Now for my own experiences. I hate when a rules issue comes up, and even though you've proven the other person right using the rulebook, they insist it can't be right because it shouldn't be that way and the rule is stupid and makes no sense. Clearly they didn't get the memo that we are playing GW games.

Also not long ago I played a guy who made lots of niggling rules arguments, and then later in the game tried to lawyer some ridiculous notions. After the game he shook my hand and said, 'well that was a friendly game'.

My most annoying opponent is a great guy who plays green tide orks. With a bajillion unpainted models. Which he moves one by one in order to always keep each one 2 inches apart from all other in case of blasts. Even when the opposing army has no blasts.

It's alternatedly boring, infuriating and funny. I take my turns in 5 minutes and then have to go read a book or watch the Extended Version of LOTR while he does his movement phase.

I also faced an IG army proxied with skaven, paper stuff and tons of other models that made it impossible to know what was what. seems to be a common thing.

I will admit owning a green tide myself, its annoying moving those 100+ models. Thats why I ask my opponent before hand if I may move my run inches in ny movment phase and I usually can tell if they are 2" apart. I'm starting to get my turns down to a whoopin 5 minutes lol. Oh and I paint my models. I don't like to play an army unless its 90% painted and counting. It takes a real man to own a fully painted green tide hahaha

There's a specific tray method that can easily move a green tide ork army across the field because it'll move all of the models in a group at once, I don't remember how it's done myself, but I doubt most people would argue it's use if it was to speed up your movement phase.

Iv heard of those, but can't fathom such a tray for 40k. Its so far a myth to me haha. But to keep this post with the topic, it would help out a lot with games that take a long time just from moving so many models. It can be very annoying to have to wait on an opponent. Might as well take a nap

Ok, first off I am not familiar with most of the rules or codecs out there. So yeah, I do consider myself new. And time is irrelevant since "knowing" something is more of a comfort feeling. I am not comfortable with most rules and rely on looking them up. Simple as that.

And how exactly am I being dishonest? Do you really think people that try to sneak stuff just suddenly play straight after getting called? This guy was just going along with whatever he could get away with. I'm not the Tabletop police and I'm not going to go around calling someone a cheater. I know what he was doing and I'm deciding not to play him again. I really don't see how that's dishonest in anyway.

I have two. The first one, a really good friend of mine who I've known for just over 17 years. The problem? I just can't beat the dude! At all. Ever. The closest I came was a Space Marine Attack bike needing to kill 4 Ork Slugga boyz in the shooting phase to win. The result? A hatful of 1's and no wounds....

As for the second, it was my last game at a GW store. That wasn't my plan you understand, it just worked out that way. Why? Simple, TFG, that's why. This was a 3rd ed game (that's how long ago it was!) and I was fielding a pretty vanilla SM list at 1500pts. TFG was fielding 2000pts of Orks. Not that I knew that until the end of the game, I guess I'm just to trusting. He was a rule monger of the worst kind, constantly re-measuring MY movement after I'd finished, just to make sure that I hadn't moved an extra 1/2 millimetre (god forbid), and then shuffling HIS minis a few extra inches after they had moved, trying to do it so I wouldn't notice. He would constantly yell 'Cocked Die!' if one of his rolls came up in an unfavourable number, he would constantly pick up my minis to 'admire' them then put them back 2-3 inches from where they were. Usually to his advantage, he smelt bad. Nothing obvious, just this kind of underlying funk. He wouldn't let me pop out for a smoke (that's just a personal thing), and he used the word 'Gay' to describe everything. As in 'SM are sooooo gay', 'Thats one gay piece of luck' 'Thats gay gay gay guy!' and my personal favourite, 'You killed them? Your gay!'
Ugggghhhh. If that's the regular oppo that my local GW can manage, then maybe that's why I've never been back....

Two examples of opponents that annoy me to no end.

1. Fluff players that act shocked/upset when I beat them with my Tournament list. You brought a handicapped list. You were going to lose. Realize that and deal with it.

2. Kid watched me play a 500 point game with a LRBT, leaves, comes back 5 mins later with a fully tailored list and tables me. Weak.

I dont really have a story of an annoying opponent because im fairly sure I do the annoying for a lot of people. I have a terrible memory and it took me ages to learn 5th. Now in 6th and I'm remembering the wrong set of rules quite often. Then I have to go through the new rule book to make sure Im understanding it right. Can drag out games a bit :(

Its why I only play friendlies and not tournaments

These kinds of players always wrastle my jimmies.

Players that act shocked/upset when I beat them with a list that I tailored against the list that they seem to bring every week, like air-cav spam or a LRBT in 500 points. You brought a stale list. You were going to lose. Realize that and deal with it.

At least against most kinds of list tailors you get to actually put your models on the table and maybe roll some dice!

My first game against 'Durp Knights' with my Daemons... The donkeycave brought 20 Strikes + 20 Interceptors and won the roll to go first.
I never got to place a single Daemon on the table thanks to that. AND the jerky git then 'juggled' my auto-mishapping units between quake bubbles so that all but 1 unit in my first wave was auto-killed.

I don't mind losing to a competitive list when I know full well I haven't brought an optimised list myself. I mean, I know full well that a squad of 18 Pink Horrors aren't optimal, but damnit it's fun and I love the look on an opponent's face when their prized unit is staring down 54 shots!!! Sure I could spam the updated Flamers/Screamers and let my army pilot itself to victory, but I'd find it really boring after the second game.
So yes, I like handi-capping myself and trying to play a TAC's list vs even the nastiest spam.

But for feth's sake, at least have the balls to let me deploy and try to make a fight of it instead of using a game-breaking gimick, a crap RAW loophole and then sitting back and gloating about how I suck and should try playing a 'real' army!
People who like that need to just go burn in a car fire and stop polluting the hobby with their WAAC's-to-overcome-small-testicles syndrome...

I would say the most annoying player I know is myself.

I sprained my ankles when I was young and have had pretty bad foot problems since then, I've had to quit quite a few games because my legs were about to go out (my local GW only has chairs at the paint station, and the one table near the station is nearly always taken) and I always feel bad because i'm sucking the fun out of other peoples 40k night.

Also I'm relatively new (started playing a few months after 6th came out) so I tend to mess up rules pretty frequently. thankfully most players at the GW are willing to help clarify the rules when I make a mistake. I'm getting corrective surgery at the end of the year so hopefully the first bit won't be a problem much longer.

other than that, there is one player I don't much like at the aforementioned GW store. In my local escalation league I've played him 2 out of of the 4 games I've been in, and a few times before that. he plays GK and I DW and it's usually pretty close but I have won but once, his stormraven with paladin squad and librarian had failed to come in the first few turns and I ended up wiping him off the table (DW terminators ate the dreadknight and my massed fire killed his two 5 man strike squads)

he proceeded to ask every single other person in the room several if the "you lose if you don't have anything on the table at the beginning of the turn" rule was true, and said it was a stupid rule when everyone told him it was legit. he has done things like this multiple times, saying that rules are stupid and trying to dice off if he doesn't like it, while forgetting to point it out when I forget rules that benefit him (like "forgetting" I had fortune on my seer council) and giving evasive answers to any rules question on his part, and complaining that anyone that beats him is cheesy (noted instances are a tau player, me with my dark angels and a tyranid player)

That's enough about that, and don't get me wrong, I have nothing agains GK, one of the best members at my FLGS is a GK player who was one of my first matchups, he's very courteous and apologizes for any rules mistakes he makes. Not to mention he's a great guy who's lots of fun to play.
'
Sorry for the wall of text and any mistakes, I'm somewhat tired right now.

Zachariel don't feel bad about actual physical problems when you play. Because if an opponent has a problem with that they are seriously intolerant. I know at my FLGS one guy was in a bad accident and broke pretty much half his body and has to do the same thing. And since he's one of the more fun guys to play with no one ever has a problem with it.

And yah that initial GK player sounds like the bees butthole....

My most annoying opponent is a good friend of mine who plays battle suit steamroller tau, and is always set on winning with the goal of leaving the other one crying. thats fine and all... nope not with me, 40k is about fun, not you trying to molest everyone with space commies in block of metal.

Anyway, he is exceedingly competitive and it takes away from the gaming experience. he is fair on rules but when we (brother and i) go through the game he is changing rules and upgrading his army because we cant tell the difference. he rolls to see if he gets wargear ("evens if i get ___) and i have recently been expanding my army, to his dismay my army is getting better and better, while he pouts about losing after we get done. i sure hope he matures really fast because i just about rip my intestines through my ears when this guy gos ham on taking advantage of things.

WHEW got that out of my system. apologies.

One of my ex-friends is this. He'd nitpick on every rule. *Oh I think I get a cover save from that blast because he's behind a tree*.

so I show him the blast rules, and he pouts and get prissy. I FRFSRF his main force of black templars, and manage to shoot down his entire squad including the emperors champion. He told me I was rolling too many dice. So, I counted the dice I rolled. Exact.

Then his turn, he charges in his homemade chapter master, I ask him if he wants to do that. He's like *fine*. He squashes a few guardsmen. I kill his chapter master and win combat, moving up to the objective.

I'd like to say that anyone who is annoyed by your ankle should check themselves before they wreck themselves and shouldn't infect 40k with there presence at all. I suffer from a tarrets like condition that causes me to bark like a dog, flail my arms around sometimes, and cause a minor embarrasing scene. All I can do is laugh and move on. But anyone who says something negative about conditions like ours probally don't have half the strength we do to survive in conditions like ours. And don't worry about rule remembering. Your having fun and that's all that counts

So...I'm gonna talk about the white elephant in the room. Me. I am my own worst opponent. My first time playing, about two months ago, I called my opponent on just about every single ruling as it came, that I didn't understand fully. Why, to make sure I understood every single thing i could about his army, my army, the terrain pieces, you name it. Man had the patience of a saint. Since then, I still hate Chaos Space Marines with an intense passion that borders on the holy, but I don't have to ask much anymore. Other than that, never had a bad opponent. Always make sure to shake their hand. Honestly, most of the guys around my shop just enjoy the game, and we consider every game a fun game, unless we do a tournement. Though, we did have one guy show up out of the blue from out of town. He looked around at the prices, made a few small comments to bait us out, then got into a "friendly" game with one of our regulars. He ran a necron flier list, and rather than going after objectives, he systematically wiped out each enemy unit, only leaving one small foot unit on an objective to ensure he won. He just kept smiling the whole game and cheering himself on at every kill, and when it was over, he packed up his army and walked out of the store. We never saw him again, which I might say is a good thing.

Anyways...back on topic

another opponent I faced just tonight brought a fluffy list of green tide. Now, he had beaten a player earlier, so I considered it poetic justice that I beat him in return. So, after looking at his list and realizing it was an all-foot army, I brought every blast weapon I could, every flamer I owned, and three Valkyries. Tabled him turn three.

He beat someone, so I beat him. Felt great, just like justice.

Only problem is he called me a list tailor. I told him that he deserved it, but he disagreed, saying the circumstances were totally different. Obviously I was right.

He was super annoying. Most annoying opponent to date.

I have deleted a fair few infalmmatory posts and personal attacks ITT. Please remember that our Rule Number One is Be Polite and following the rules is a condition to posting. I recommend taking a break from the thread if you feel personally angry about something posted here. A short walk, a snack, watching some TV, or whatever will put into perspective how breaking our rules is just not worth your time. Thanks.

Most annoying opponent I've faced... hmm
Well, there is this one two guys, one always plays space wolves, I'm glad he doesn't play longfang spam, and the other plays tau

Yeah, the one time I really remeber, he played his usual list, logan, 2x wolf guard, all in land raiders with a vindi and pred for backup, though he laso included some grey hunters.

I was playing necrons (Overlord with MMS, 2+ armour, Phase Shifter, Warscythe and Phylactery in a barge, 5 immortals with blasters, 15 warriors, monolith, 8 scarabs, lord with warscythe, phase shifter and MSS)
He had like 2500pts, I had 1000pts. He said it was totally fair...
Obviously it wasn't, so I got my friend to play with me, he was using my Chaos Space Marines.
so now it was 2500 vs 2500, he said it was unfair, because 2 heads are better than one... got his friend (the guy who played tau) to help him with a 1000 point army...

We allowed forge world stuff, though only the tau guy was using any.

Anyway, the tau guy used a Apoc only vehicle, and I only found out when I demanded to see the rules, D6 str 10 AP 1 large blasts? yeah right...
He was totally lying, didn't even have a single str 10 ap 1 weapon, let alone D6 large blast ones.

And the space wolf player... tells me all his models allow him to remove a special rule from all my units when he chooses, tells me he removed RP. I call cheating, demand to see the rules, tells me he doesn't have his codex and that he's telling the truth. I tell him that the SW codex is under his seat and proptly grab it and start to read it, finally he says he was lying...

In the end, me and my friend lose, because of Apoc units in a 40k game, being 1000 pts down, etc...

Don't know why I even bothered to play against him, should have just versed my friend...

Why would you play someone who was trying to say 2:1 point values are fair? I can't believe anyone would try that kind of crap.

D6 S10 Ap1 large blasts? In a 1000 points? I'd love to meet these guys.

This is the story that was forming itself in my head as I read that

You - You there, wolf heathen! I long for combat!
Wolf heathen - I accept your challenge, but only on my terms! 250% points for me!
You - Ha! You've activated my trap card! Allied army! Come forth to assist!
Friend - Sup
Wolf Heathen - An equal point match?! This is not acceptable! Tau friend! Form up on me!

And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere.

Don't know why I bothered playing him...

And his excuse for 2500 vs 1000 being fair is that I was playing necrons, and necron are always cheap and OP no matter what list you run... I will agree, necrons can be op, but still...

Oh, and not to mention through-out the entire game he and his friend had the cheek to call me TFG for playing necrons...

Like after it all comes crashing down and theres that moment of silence, some guy would stick his head out of the nearby bathroom ala toasty from mortal kombat and scream "perils!"

A kid I usually play at GW likes to bend the rules or flat out ignore some. He once lined up terrain all in a neat line for himself in the middle of the map all connected up. I called him out that you can't join terrain together like that, but he whined and I couldn't be bothered.

He's also that guy who brings three flyers to a 1500 point battle (this is all the flyers he could buy mind you, he mentioned he wanted to buy even more).

I guess I should legitimately contribute here.

A couple months ago there was a tourny nearby. Having just fashioned up my small freebooter ork army, I was ready to go to battle.

2 trukks, 2x20 boy squads, some lootas, and a deffkopta. It was a....700 or something pt tourny. Oddly enough I don't remember what I used for an HQ. It wasn't a warboss. Perhaps a mek? Whatever.

Anyways, my army was built around CC, and now that I think of it it was an intro to 6th edition tourny.

So I face a sisters army. 3 sqauds with a flamer and melta in each.

The actual game went something like this. I moved forward with trucks. Bolter fire destroyed them, they ramshackled back the wrong way. Orks got out, moved forward, got boltered to hell and back. All the while Lootas did nothing but miss. On the occasion they hit, the sisters made their invuln save. At the end of the game I killed one model while he killed almost every model in my army.

That rather dismal match is not what made me dislike my opponent, it was him constantly talking about how sisters were just god teir. On top of that, when he first rolled for faith points, he practically screamed PRAY HARDER! And, much like some sad sod who doesn't know he's running a good joke into the ground by using it all the time, the guy continued to gloat and scream about praying. The whole match I was kicking myself for not running IG and shoving a leman down his throat.

So I talked to a buddy of mine who goes to the location in question more often than I, and he told me that that guy is basically a social pariah, and for good reason. Nobody plays him more than once, and nobody likes him.

While I wasn't a bad opponent during the affair, I did feel bad for not putting on a game face after the third turn. It was pretty obviously screwed, and I just wanted the game to end so I can try again and get away from the guy.

Surprisingly enough though, he gave me high sportsmanship scores. All of my opponents did. Won best sportsman and walked away with a 15 dollar gift card. That plus because the store was clearing out it's gw merchandise, I managed to get an Ork bomba for like 15 bucks after the discount and that gift card.

Shh, don't worry. Let him have his moment. If he wants to believe his sisters are god tier, let him live the dream.

And I can understand him screaming PRAY HARDER! at his sisters. When I roll for the Chaos Boon and get something really crappy, I feel like screaming at my guys to do better.

I played this one guy in an escalation league, and he we

were both getting ready to deploy.

So, this guy asks me(because we

were not running WAAC lists in this

league, like, it wasn't allowed) if I'm

running missile

spam/thunderwolf spam, in our

750-850(can't remember which.)

because quote "were trying to

get away from that kind of play" then

proceeds to place ragnar, 15 bloodclaws,

and a landraider with a multimelta on the table,

and some grey hunters with melta. I look at him,

look down at his models, and ask. "your joking right?" he

says no, I kind of chuckle, and we get on with playing. He

was also kind of annoying in that, If something was even

remotely questionable, like range/los/ect, he would say

"EHHHH, I don't know about that....." which was really

obnoxious. I also play with friends, and enjoy playing them,

but one of my friends is a lawyer, so you'd think he'd be able

to read for detail, but he has at least 10x the mistakes I have

made with the game. Most in his favor. Last game, he was

playing chaos, and said the Burning brand of skalathrax

was S5 to which I argued, after sighing, he looks it up, and

see's I'm right, that it was only S-4 after all. He's a great guy

and fun to play against, but I can't help feeling that If I don't

know his Dex front to back, something might slip past in his

favor, by design (I'd like to hope not) or otherwise.
