Just joined up and spending most of my time so far in the Infinity sub-forum. I'll be using this thread to post up pics of my Infinity models as and when i paint them. I thought i might as well start with some finished models ..

Thats it for now, hopefully post more stuff when i get the chance.

Very nice! I like your stuff.

Those wolf nipples seem strange to me though.

Sexy paint jobs, well done! I especially like the Oniwaban, now I want to paint one myself...

Good stuff! I like how you more or less used the standard colors, but made them looks less flashy and more harmonic. Well except that orange Shangji with the purple gun...

Fantastic painting. I love the color choices you did for each faction. I'm looking forward to more! I hope to see more Yu Jing.

Thanks folks!

@Rotgut - The wolf nipples have been mentioned before! I wanted them still to look vaguely human but the pink may have been a bit much. I tried them in grey as well to begin with but they looked a bit silly.

@Burst - Yeah, the Oniwaban is an awesome looking mini, probably one of my favourite Infinity sculpts. Now go paint one!

@Baiyuan - I try to only use a few main colours on the models just to keep things simple. If anyone can make them look less flashy its me!

@CDK - You may get your wish. I have started again on some old school zhanshi that i have been trying to finish for ages!

Yes, I hate that the thing that first pops up when looking at the wolf is wolfnipples. But... wolfnipples. Its a great paintjob regardless.

I am so happy to see another painted Maghariba! And yours looks topnotch! The writing and stuff on it really makes it look more professional, unlike my pirate looking one. It is still my favorite damn model in the whole range. Because Ghost in the Shell.

I think what I'm the biggest fan of is the blues you've used for the Merovingian troops. It really ties them together, but is still muted enough to fit with the rest of the Ariadna forces. The Moblot looks great as well. Those guys are totally under-appreciated.

Seems like you suffer from the same model ADD like the rest of us! I approve.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh! And what did you use for the Mag's base? I still haven't based mine... can't play with the freaking thing if I put it on a base.

I like to have it crawl over things.

Ok, OK i'll do something about the dog warrior's nipples!

CC - The 'writing' on the Maghariba was just some tau decals i had lying around. But they seemed to fit pretty well so i used them. The base was just made from some plasticard and an old cd glued together. Cut to about 80mm then glued together and filed down so that it was vaguely circular. And i have 4 factions so i get to paint a little bit of everything.

Speaking of painting i finally finished a Dao Fei i have had waiting to be finished off for ages.

Wow, a really nice collection of minis! Struggling to pick out any in particular as they all look so great, but I'd probably say the Lasiqs and the Scotsman in the plain-plate looking armour are my favourites from amongst them!

Top stuff, look forward to seeing more !

Thanks Pacific

Ok, you asked for it and now you've got it! I re-painted the dog warrior's nipples! A couple of coats
of black wash (well old gw armour wash to be precise) and voila! ...

And as this is supposed to be a WIP thread i thought i'd better post some WIP pics. As i'm thinking about using my Yu Jing for a Paradiso campaign in the new year i should probably try and get some of them painted first. Here are some pics of the models currently in process.

Made a start on some of my Yu Jing including the Karakuri and two Domaru Butai but then got distracted by another old model that had been waiting for ages to get finished off. Combined army Charontid is now ready for some varnish. And not before time too as i dropped it and chipped it twice when i was painting it!

Yeah, the original studio paintjob (purple and grey) didn't do it any favours! I much preferred the paint scheme they used on the HMG and i tried to get something like that on this but with limited success. I've tried using a sponge on my Gwailo to get a mottled effect and will probably use that on the HMG when i eventually paint it. And there were a few models that i wasn't too keen on when i saw the studio versions but the models themselves look great, particularly the Skiavoros and Exrah sculpts. So don't be put off by the paintjobs!

Fantastic Charontid. I'm hoping to get around to mine soon. I've got that plus an Anathematic, and drones that need to be done. Your base for it looks cool too.

Thanks folks.

@CDK I've still got 3/4 of my EI aspects to paint up (Charontid HMG , Skiavoros an Anathematic) and thats not including drones, slave drones and med tec! The base was pretty easy too. He's obviously just overrun an Ariadna position as most of the base is the bit of a zouave scenic base that doesn't fit on a 25mm base. It provides a nice counterbalance to the Charontid as well who is pretty top heavy.

And good spot Mr Warmill! After i had finished the armour plates i wanted it to look a bit more alien-y. I had shaded the armour with leviathan purple and went back and added some watered down hawk tuquoise to the panel lines and recesses as a bit of a contrast.

Thought i'd post a couple of pics of the Domarus in progress. I'd originally intended for the armour to be a light grey colour with space wolves grey as a base but i added a black wash to define some of the armour plates a bit better and they've ended up a bit daker than i had anticipated. Still a bit more highlighting to do so they may end up fairly light anyway.

I may just leave the male and try and get the female finished off before i go home for xmas.

Time for another update. I've been painting up some bits of scatter terrain recently so i thought i'd post up some pics of the work in progress. The scatter terrain is mostly resin with some plastic barriers as well. Some pics below with a bit of a step by step of how they were painted.

A mixture of some crates, vending machines and barriers. All just the right height to provide cover in your favourite sci-fi skirmish game! There was a bit of flash on some of the bits but nothing that couldn't be sorted with a sharp knife. Then it was on to priming.

I usually just use cheap car primer or paint mixed with gesso for minis but i had recently picked up some Vallejo primer so thought i'd give it a try. I'd seen it used straight from the bottle in airbrushes but it started to clog mine so i think a bit of thinning wouldn't hurt. Other than that it went on nicely and didn't obscure any of the detail on the pieces.

The pieces then got basecoats. There is a little bit of pre-shading on the panels for the barriers as well.

A bit of highlighting applied to the crates and a ghulam for scale. And a bit of shading and some stencils applied to the barriers.

I then changed my mind on the crates and went back and picked out some of the panels.

I've also been changing my mind on the vending machines so still have them to finish off, but should hopefully be done soon.

And all of the above was brought to you by the nice people at ..

You can check more of their stuff out here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/488639.page

I'd say go for it! Even with my chinese knock off airbrushes i was able to get half decent results on the small crates. If i was doing them again i would probably try and mask off the panels on the crates rather than painting them by hand and probably some bits on the vending machines just to break the colours up a bit.

@ mathieu - i thought it was obvious they are vending soft drinks!

@ Slave i'm sure you won't be disappointed. Painting some of the teeny tiny details on the minis can be a bit of a shock at first. And who doesn't like making terrain? Especially for Infinity. Here's some i prepared earlier ..

The scatter or the buildings? I posted a link to the scatter already. The buildings are indeed scratchbuilt. Just some foamcore with some textures added. Like this ..

And Pacific i would definitely recommend getting an airbrush, especially if you are doing terrain. I also use it for priming minis and or Infinity you can even do base colours/ highlighting on TAGs with one. So you should get plenty of use out of it.

I suppose i should say 'read all about it' now but i don't know if i can bring myself to do it. Thought i would post some WIP pictures of some Exrah models i've been working on. I was painting my Morat vanguard models and had an idea for painting the armour on the exrah models. The one on the left has had a bit more highlighting on the armour plates but there is still a way to go before finishing both of them. :|

And i think i finally managed to work out how to take pictures with my camera without making them look totally washed out!

CDK wrote:Love the color choices on them.

Well the armour plates started out a dark blue colour and i didn't really like it so they sat there for a while without doing anything to them. Then i was painting some morat vanguard and added teal blue to some blue armour on the morats and had a mini eureka moment of what to do with the exrahs. Couple of drybrushes later and i was much happier with how they looked. And i wanted the skin/ flesh to reflect the Exrah rule in the game so it has a nice soft fleshy bruised look to it.

@ Pacific - I think those sorts of colours suit the combined army pretty well. You don't know if its armour plates or alien bug scales or what so you'll just have to kill them to find out.

Not really painted much since the DPC but i have finally got round to painting up some bits of junk for some scatter terrain. It was an excuse to practice using some oil weathering techniques before i let loose on an SdKfz 234 model i have waiting to be painted. I'm sure those of you that chew gum will recognise this ...

And i have managed to accumulate a few of them because i thought they would make some nice LOF blockers/ scatter terrain for Infinity. I like the angle they are at when they are flipped over so that is how they will be painted.

On the left is one that is ready for priming. In the middle is one that has just been primed and on the right is one that is nearly done. I primed the one that is nearly done with Vallejo airbrush primer and even with a couple of coats found that it would chip fairly easily. I managed to pick up a Tamiya light grey primer pretty cheap recently from a local model shop that was closing down so i used that on the second one. Seems to be much better as i think it adheres to the plastic better becauses its an aerosol can.

After airbrushing the basic grey colours i started to apply the oils. Then decided it looked a bit plain being all grey so added a bit of colour with some stencil/ masking. Made a pigs ear of the stencil for the numbers and ended up with the paint bleeding underneath. I wanted to distress the coloured areas anyway so i managed to cover up the mistake i think. Hopefully the masking on other ones will go a bit smoother now. Then it was back to the oils to break up the monotonous grey areas.

I have seen tutorials where oils have been used to make streaking effects on military vehicles and wanted to achieve the same effect on the grey areas and to add some different tones to the airbrushed colours.

I think the effect is a bit heavier than i would like in some areas but for a first go its come out pretty well. Hopefully it will look better on the other ones.

Grime and gunk accumulate in strange ways on real structures, and honestly these look gorgeous.

Thanks for the comments. You can never have too much chewing gum!

So i finally finished off the other gum containers. Someone on another forum suggested they looked like escape pods so i tried to go for some heat discolouration on the bottom of the latest pair. I tried to get some step by step pictures as well this time.

First up just the basic grey airbrushed on.

The masking on the colour bits was a bit sloppy again but i knew i would be able to sort it out when i went back to distress them.

With added chips/ scratches.

Then after some varnish applying the oils. I tried to tone down some of the effect on the upper parts of the 'escape pods' but i think i may have gone too far the ther way as its not that noticable. :| The streaking on the bottom has come out ok though.

They've been varnished so i may have to back and give them another pass with the oils.

Bantha's Infinity - 28/03 More Deadzone stuff @ 2013/09/02 22:41:02

Post by: bantha_beast

So i took my own advice and did a bit more with the oils to try and add a bit more variation to them. They're pretty much done now except for some weathering powder added to the vents.

Now to find something else to paint.

So i finally painted something! Pretty much done with some REMs for my haqqislam. Although i might do a bit more on the bases.

And i have a couple more to finish off hopefully sooner rather than later.

10/10 would steal for own paintjobs

Have like 400pts (soon 550-600) of CA that have never seen a brush, simply because I hate the default paint job and can't think of what colours to do them up in

...Wow, that REM is much better than I thought that model could be - really love the muted colours!

@Dakkamite
Look up Medusa's WiP thread. I hate the basic paint jobs as well, totally fell in love with his work though

Nice! Well done!

I never thought a REM could look that great.

I've actually magnetised the weapons on these so am painting them separately. I think they look better without them as they look a bit more streamlined. And just for Alpharius i actually tried out using an airbrush on something smaller than a TAG sized model on these. Its making me think i should try it on some of my combined models now!

@ Dakkamite the good thing about CA is that you are actually painting 4 or 5 separate races so you can try different schemes for the different alien races. I usually try and start with something close to the studio scheme but end up changing it slightly.

Fantastic work! Nice to see so much effort on terrain, it really pays off, and I love the blending job you have done with the remotes.

Oh, those are cool! I'm playing Haq when I finally get time to learn. Care to give a simple color breakdown on those?

Love the terrain as well. I eat that gum and have been throwing out those containers. Not any more!

Well Pacific what did you expect, they are Infinity minis!

@Slave Its a bit of a mix of paints but basically the main colour on the bodies is Folk Art craft paint 'Pebblebrook'. I'm not sure if there would be an equivalent GW colour but i have some Vallejo Flames of War German Camo Biege which is pretty similar in terms of colour. The armoured brown parts were painted with Foundry Dusky Flesh shade as a base. I think the equivalent GW colour would be Dark Flesh if they still did such a thing! Vallejo also have a Dark Flesh which is probably pretty close. The rest of the legs and body were done with a dark blue/ grey base and then highlighted with various greys. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the comments.

@ BB the textures are from this guys site. http://www.art.eonworks.com/gallery/texture/texture_gallery_1.html It says they are free so download away! There are lots of good textures for building exteriors and there are some cool panels and control screens that would make a nice spaceship interior.

Time for another WIP model that finally got finished. A Khawarij from the first Infinity starter box i got (back when he was still in the starter box!). I reckon i must have started him over 4 years ago now, but never got round to finishing him. But now he's done.

Nice minis especially the remote looks fantastic. I also like the markings on the base I think I will borrow that idea.

Bantha's Infinity - 28/03 More Deadzone stuff @ 2014/02/04 00:16:27

Post by: bantha_beast

Ivan - The markings were a first attempt to show the direction a model was facing and its 180 degree arc after one too many in game 'discussions' about a models facing. It will be getting painted over so the edge of the base is black. And since then i have taken to masking the base off and spraying a gradient using the airbrush which gives a much nicer effect.

*blows dust off thread*

Not really painted much recently but just finished up weathering some bits of junk/ terrain. These used to be noodle cups.

After painting added some sponge chipping and then enamel streaking. Then got carried away and added some chipping/ streaking to some Proxie barriers i had already painted up.

Everything looks better when its weathered!

Very nice work, did you use an airbrush?

And since I didn't comment on them before, lovely work on the Bjork-droids (Karikuri). Very soft blend with the white and blue, and nice fine detail work - works very well!

Thanks @ Pacific - Yeah the base painting on the junk and barriers was airbrushed and then the chipping/ streaking added after.

So i picked up some Deadzone terrain sprues cheap off ebay just because. Got a couple of buildings assembled and started on painting them.

And another building pre-weathering.

The colours were supposed to match some of the Proxie barriers i posted before but they ended up a lot darker due to all the weathering. So i may to go back over the barriers to get them to match!

I had to make up some extra sets of ladders as i only got a single set of accessory sprues. Top tip - some of the straight bits of sprue from the connector sprue are the same width and length as the ladder uprights so all you need are some bits of plasticard for the rungs!

And 'deadzoning' up a pringles tube just because i had some lying about.

More great stuff! Seems all the infinity players are also great painters on here! I like the more traditional military coloring. i've thought about painting my PanO grunts in a german Flecktarn coloring to keep a germanic theme to go with my Teutonic knight(s)

Well i was hoping to update this thread with a finished Guijia from the Git 'er Done thread but i managed to drop it off a table and now its in pieces. On the plus side it will make painting some bits of the model a lot easier!

But in the meantime i finished up another small deadzone building.

I've added some shutters from bits of plasticard to the big windows as they were a bit too open for my liking. I think i might retrofit this to some of the other buildings that i've already finsihed as it helps cut down lines of sight through the buildings. Just need to add some chipping/ scratches to the orange bits and then its ready for varnish.

Looks really nice. The band of half-tiles gives it an interesting shape/size compare to the norm. Roof mini tower also looks quite functional. I like the shutters, especially useful for situations and games in which you won't be using interiors.

Bantha's Infinity - 28/03 More Deadzone stuff @ 2016/03/29 22:41:36

Post by: bantha_beast

Thanks Grim. Using the half panels meant i was able to get two decent sized buildings from the scenery upgrade pack. I also had a load of them left over from the first buildings i made.

The interior of the building is still usable as the roof comes off and it still has two other windows so you can see out. Having the third window made it practically impossible to place the windows and not have lines of sight through the building. Which kind of defeats the purpose of having a building there in the first place!

See, I think you're doing it right. I was all concerned about using the half tiles for stuff like walkways and what not...but 1/2" hardware cloth (grid of metal wires used to pen in small animals like chickens and various other farm/home purposes, if you don't call it that in your area) with a smaller metal mesh like one would use for the insect screening in a screen door or window make pretty passable metal walkways. Even plasticard and wood for more ramshackle crossings.

So I think I'll be stealing your thought process there and expanding choice buildings with half tile bits. Good idea
