Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere. I couldnt find it. Sorry.

the Lego Star Destroyer took 2 months to build and is almost 3 feet long
Under the old DA book, this was a complete DW. 20 squads of 5 men each. I have 10 more terminators to bring this group up to new codex layout.
this was a twin size bed that I found in the basment of an apartment I rented
every bit has a place. yea. im a bit OCD with my bits.
Dear GW, More posters in White Dwarf please. Thank you!
Painting table in the back (airbrushing stuff is up in my room due to the noise my compressor makes), but that's my gaming table. Don't play much of the 4x6ft table game so my setup works well
Here's a nice picture of half of my gaming area. I've never taken pictures of the other end (a sitting area with couch and TV) or the storage area (a seperate room lined with shelves).
That's my baby. Four 4'x6' tables that make a 6'x16' table or a 4'x24' table as needed. Built with my own two hands (I am SO NOT a carpenter) it is the best gaming project I've done for myself.
That's a ridiculous amount of BL novels. Also, I envy how much space you have - I grew up in a converted mobile home and shared a bedroom with all 3 of my siblings. I'd say your man-cave is about 1/3 the size of my old house. Thankfully I've since moved out into a house that's only slightly smaller. Not that my gaming space is much to speak of. I'll try to get pictures.

Eh...a lot Models, I think he has a few thousand of the D&D ones alone, and he probably has almost equal that in other models. A lot of stuff is unopened, he has a penchant for buying two copies of things, one to play and one to collect. Only a few of us really can/will make time for board games though, so we don't get to play those nearly as much as we'd like.

Heheh, yarp. Once we finish our current Pathfinder campaign (going on 2-2 1/2 years now), then the most current Hackmaster version is up next.
These are some incredible set ups! Totally jealous. I have some selves in parents garage stuffed behind other junk. All my white dwarfs hidden in my old bedroom. And in my flat a shelf of magazines and the rest of my miniatures jammed into draws in my desk! Haven't played a game in years.
When people buy houses is gaming space an important feature?
No, Mattyrm. It's just myself and my mother (who I take care of) in the house. I get the whole basement. The people in the picture are just the guys I game with (at least once a week). I am the one at the back right of the picture.
First comes clearing the garage out and organizing the storage out there. Then comes building a table on which to wage war (oh, wait, get the portable A/C unit out there before building a table). THEN, there will be pictures.
This actually made me wanna post since I just finished my table project.

And of course... My to do list and bits.
From the left to right. Daemons, Empire, Vampire Counts, Flames of War (russians/Germans), Hordes, Tau, and Bits.
They always make me feel so jealous of the pre set up tables and gaming stuff not placed 5 foot+ in the air to keep it away from little tiny sticky fingers and mouths that take over my house as soon as I leave for work.
I am resolved to building a 10' x 10' dad shed in the garden now - DAMN THE COST!
I've got an old 4x8 table in a corner of my basement, you can spot part of it in the shelves picture. It mostly gets used for construction projects and clutter collection.

I was drilling holes for magnets, not pins. I took that picture when I was assembling my storm talon and ADL/quadgun. Not the best tool for the job, but the one I have. And one perk of using a big drill is that it has a lot of mass, so likes to stay put. I can run it at low speeds, unlike my dremmel, so it's actually better for some jobs.
I should take a pic of mine. I mainly use a corner of my basement as my home office, and one of the 3 available walls is a big Ikea shelving unit with an extension to act as a hobby workbench.

I, unfortunately, have to 'setup and tear down' my gaming space in my house in the basement so it can also be used as an area for the wife to do laundry. Not worth posting.
But my friend's place I will take pics of and post as he is not a Dakka-poster...two rooms...with two gaming spaces of 12x6 and 10x4 tables. Just crazy...he is also getting out of 40k and owns at least 2k in 8 armies.

I have to do the same thing so I feel you brother.
I'll have to snap a few pictures of mine, although it's hardly as nice (plus all the board games and RPG books go upstairs.., only the miniatures are banished to the basement; both my wife and cats agree this is where they belong.) Tricky working with a basement with a ceiling barely over six feet, inconvenient support posts, and sub-optimal placement of partition walls.
Oh, and it floods if I lose power in a heavy rain storm, so gotta keep stuff off the floor. Other than that, it *rocks*.

Heh, yar Still waiting for some pics of your guys new terrain (when it's finished)
This is where I do my painting - Its just a small card table..but its all I really need
TV / Table 1 / Spraypaints and bits storage / Bookshelf full of Codexes, Army books, etc
Table 2 & terrain / army shelfs
Since taking these pics I have built a 3rd table. No real place to game at in my area, so I just kinda take it upon myself to act as the local place for people to play 1 night a week.
I don't really have dedicated space, I have a little corner of my dad's workshop that's my painting and modeling table, but no real game space. I have plenty of nerdy posters and a small library of about 170 novels/other books + not counting a couple a couple Dark Heresy books and my Chaosioum general RPG book. I really want to add the new Shadowrun and Cyberpunk 2020 reprint to that collection.
I probably won't have a truly dedicated space/man cave for awhile, since I'm going to be in a tiny studio apartment for at least a year starting this fall, and who knows where following that. I do intend to get a display case when I move into my apartment.
I don't have a proper place to game as all my gaming stuff lives on the second floor of an enclosed porch and I have a 7x4 that I put over the dining room table to game on.
However, I do have a LEGO space that takes up half of the bedroom the wife and I have turned into the crafting space.
Side wall
Rear wall workspace. It's not this clean now and there is a second layer of drawer units.
Under the TV. middle shelf. 2 tone grey box. SEXY!!!!!!
That reminds me, I need to hook my Atari 2600 up to the flat screen. Just need to string 2-5 adapters together so the ancient tech can talk to the new.
If the basement gets wet I would not advise carpet.
As someone who's basement has flooded more times then I care to think about, this is sound advice. When we moved into out house it had wall-to-wall carper in part of the basement. After the second flood that all got ripped out. Right now we have an area rug, which if it gets damp I can lug out to spend some time in the sun to dry. They do make rubber mats to make standing around easier or for kids play areas, those might work if you have water problems. If not for the dropped minis, for your knees.
As an aging gamer, I don't just look for nice tables and cool terrain, but a place to sit from time to time in a gaming space.
Heh, yar Still waiting for some pics of your guys new terrain (when it's finished)
Well, I'm going to see about getting some pics this Saturday and, as the terrain is still a work in process, the terrain, paints, etc. are covering both tables. So... you'll see some of it, at least. LOL

It is more of a political issue than anything else in my house. Right now, as it stands, the basement is unfinished, and is my man cave. When I want to work on my things, and get some games in, I have a space to retreat to, and do whatever I want with. The moment I begin to "finish" the basement, is the moment the family decides that they want to use this nice new space for their own purposes. It is self preservation really...no one cares what is going on in the basement, because no one has a use for the basement.

So I guess the next question is "What can you do to improve the space for you, but not for the rest of the family?" When I was growing up my dad had a pin-up calendar in his woodshop. No so much so he could ogle pictures of half naked chicks when he was down there, but to declare "This is MAN space" Horribly sexist and insensitive by modern standards, but it was his way of claiming that corner of the basement. Whenever my mom went down there, she gave him a "Tsk, Tsk", said what she needed to say, and left.

Moved into our house 6 weeks ago and now have a man room big enough for a 6x4 table! Just need to make one that will fold away (thinking x2 decorators tables)
Here it is at the mo looking a bit empty will be getting another display cabinet for the other corner as well as a bookself

I have a similar situation with my den/office/man room. At first I had strict rules "no women or children allowed. no exceptions." This was obviously a point of friction between the missus and myself so I had to find a new tactic to keep this as my own space. I had to get all psychological about it, to make the rest of the family uncomfortable coming into the room.
First was to make it feel drastically different from the rest of the house. Different smell, different lighting, different flooring, lots of bizzare art, lots of fragile stuff, etc. Next was to 'act' different while im in the room. As soon as a kid wanders in, the reply is a semi-alarmed "whats wrong?" "oh nothing." "i see....."
When someone is determined to stick around in there I be sure to punctuate their every move with a "careful your about 2 feet away from a priceless bone carved plate." "watch the finish on that table, it scratches easy" "careful that plant will cause a rash if you get too close. its poisonous." "watch out for the light, its fragile" "woah now, your getting pretty close to the miniatures, just ease back. perfect."
Sounds harsh but it has worked. The girl is pretty much just afraid to go in the room now, and the boy never bothers me when i'm in there, only peaking through the door to tell me something. Though recently I have discovered he sneaks in and sits in my chair sometimes while i'm at work. If i ever find something broken ill have to up my game, but for now i am satisfied.
I no longer have a dedicated room for my stuff has I did but even then I did not mind sharing everything with my son, he likes to watch me sculpting and sometimes he copies me with his plasticine etc... I mean this hobby for me is a good alibi to goof around with my kid.
They always make me feel so jealous of the pre set up tables and gaming stuff not placed 5 foot+ in the air to keep it away from little tiny sticky fingers and mouths that take over my house as soon as I leave for work.

Yeah.
I hardly live in a mansion, but my house is big enough that you'd *think* I'd have some space to call my own. Instead, most of my gaming stuff is tucked away in unfinished basement space. The finished basement area where I envisioned my sports/entertainment/gaming den is overrun with toys, and I don't foresee any dramatic positive change happening there for the next decade and a half.
i actually perfer the un-finished basment I have. Sure the carpet is nice at my folks house but if I drop a paint pot or my cup full of paint-water i really dont care about the crappy floor tile. try saying that over a plush carpet covered in BA red

That's one of the reasons when I refinish my space in the basement I'm getting rid of the cheap indoor/outdoor carpet and replacing it with tile, vinyl, or just painting the dang floor with cement paint and clear coat. After doing some paint stripping I have a lovely black stain on the area rug I bought for the space. Screw putting anything nice where it'll get covered in paint, resin, rubber, glue, and potentially soaked if a storm decides to look at me the wrong way.
Oh, I wouldn't have issues playing in unfinished space. My issue is that the previous owners finished almost all of the available basement space. So the unfinished part doesn't provide enough space to game. It's just shelves and storage.
I make do with some folding tables and a Zuzzy mat (which I really like and recommend BTW). But it'd sure be nice to be able to leave stuff out.

Word. Me and my daughter too. We sculpt, paint, play games, and make terrain together.
Lovely bendy panoramic images of my, well, nerd cellar really. Need to get the dang space better organized (and probably get a smaller table; a 4x6 eats up too much room.)
I'm pretty lucky in that I've got a corner of the spare bedroom for my modelling stuff. Both our bedrooms are in the rafters as we have a converted apartment. I don't have any problems justifying the space as my boyfriend plays as well, sort of, though he hasn't done anything to them since the Dark Eldar got heavily nerfed. He used to play a Webway Portal army and.. umm.. yeah.
(Yes, those are moving boxes shoved behind it, as they're in good nick and I don't want to have to get my hands on another bunch of boxes when we move out of here in a few years. I'll cover them in a blanket at some point.)
Everything has to fit in a small space, but luckily I am extremely organised and work very, very slowly so I don't need massive amounts of storage room.
When the room is in spare bedroom mode the transparent boxes are shoved under the table and the rest of the room has enough room for a blow-up bed.
Here's an old shot of my painting station. Now it is overflowing with all sorts of different paint ranges. I almost have no room for models on there, so I need to sort something out.
Here's my gaming table. 2 6x2.5 folding trestle tables, GW battlemat, assorted terrain. I've actually got more terrain now, but I haven't had a chance to put it all together for a game. I don't have a room for myself (and likely never will), but clearing out the garage is easy for gaming.
Who do I turn my nerd card in to? I got very excited about the cat on the table, and only noticed the bio-titan afterwards. (Although I have threatened to use my cats as bio-titans in games before... anything they knock off the table is removed from the game, no saves allowed.)
Humble beginnings haha.
I'm looking for a lamp and general shelf unit to upgrade. It all needs to be semi permanent as I'm planning to move out.
I'll repost when I've got a better set up, depending on what the other (decidedly NOT mini cool) half has to say on the matter.
Also, I'm not uncommonly tall, I'm standing on my bed.

So, in taking pictures of a project I've been working on (8 to 12 hours every Saturday for about 4.5 months), they captured pics of the place where I game. I took a couple others to add on, though. I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to go ahead and show ALL the pics of the project, since most of them are in the "gaming area" pics, anyway, and tell you about it...
If you turn to Page 345 in your 40K rulebooks, you'll see where the inspiration for this Bad Boy came from.
(Larger pics are in my gallery)
That's Rob (Tactica on Dakka) in the background. In real life he actually has a head.
Another angle:
You can see the bar in the background here:
More Rob:
A close up of the main building of the space port. You can see Leopold and Franz in the background here... We'll meet them later:
Another closer shot, from a different angle:
Yet another close up. Those black explosions were made with FW weathering powders, BTW:
A different angle (again):
Again:
Yet again (Hi, Franz!):
Some close ups of the building.
It's all modular. Here is one piece:
A close up of the back (front?) and two "turrets." These were fun to convert from fitting the fortress of redemption to fitting CoD tiles. Not something that is good for your sanity!
I pulled this away from the walkway to show the doors:
"Ground Level" shot of the "out building" that is sitting in the center:
That's Tom in the background. It's his place.
Another "Ground Level" shot:
The view from the landing pad. The pad that is on the upper floor of the main building has the side pieces glued in place:
The side pieces move on the other two, though:
So, you've seen this in the pics:
That's 4' tall, 2' deep and 13+' long. That's where Tom keeps his armies. It's LED lit with tempered glass shelves. This way, you can see all of the models, and the LED lights don't, you know, melt them. LOL
This is Leopold:
Leopold (never "Leo") is rather dumb... Well, stupid, really. He's fun, though. Just don't let him get drunk. He's a mean drunk.
This is Franz:
Franz is a black bear. He's 6' tall and from Canadian. Oddly, however, he speaks with a German accent and I've never heard him say "Eh!" or "Hoser."
Lastly, the storage area. This is where the terrain and some other things are kept:
This is a fun set to use. There are enough 2x2 squares that we can choose whether or not to use the FW Walls or the Giant cliff-like hills. They aren't shown in this pic, but the cliffs are about as tall as the walls.
These next 2 pics show the 4x6 FW Cityfight tiles hith buildings on them (but not attached):
(Sorry for the blur)
This is the extras cabinet. It holds the 3 armies that won't fit in the cabinet shown earlier, the extras from the Orks and the stuff that's too large/tall for the cabinet shelves:
The bottom shelf (only visible in the bottom right corner of the pic) is SOB.
Next up is IG The two above that are Tau (previous codex - no new models yet)
Above that are Ork & Tau flyers, extra Ork models and FW Ork tanks that would be too big for the front cabinets. They're not used as often, so they're sent back here.
Above that are more big things. A Heirophant Bio-Titan and Warhound can be seen here, amongst others
Top shelf is CSM Warhound, Angron, two Stompas and... I forget.
Having seen all this, you're probably thinking what a great place this must be to game. If you are, you're right... and I consider myself lucky to do so. It's really not because of the environment, as much, though. Really, it's about my gaming buddies. Tom, Rob and Andy (not shown, even partially) are 3 of the best guys I've games with in the nearly 32 years I've been gaming. They're great gamers, modellers and friends. THAT (IMO) is what makes a gaming space a great place to play.
Thanks for the kind words, guys. We put a lot of work into that terrain over the last 5 months or so. Rob (Tactica) is putting together a Mechanicus table at the moment that is turning out BEAUTIFUL. Hopefully, I can get him to post pics when it's done. Otherwise, I'll have to. Of course, the man's a perfectionist, so he's putting 20 to 30 hours just into the PAINTING of each of the (6) buildings. He's also building a street system for it from plasticard that looks AWESOME, but it eating a lot of time, as well. When all is said and done, it will be the equivalent of a 6" square of street around each of the 6 buildings that have been built (mounted to 12x12 mdf boards). I think it'll be, like, a total of 24 sg. ft of road sections or something

More or less current setup of my Games room. Only one picture for now. To the right is a rather large desk/workstation with shelves and storage, to the right of that is a 4 foot bookshelf with hobby supplies + widescreen computer monitor (connected to the computer hidden in the desk).
I've got several tables I can set up (up to 2 tables at a time) : The one in the picture (with 3 storage drawers underneath), an octagonal poker table, portable 3D Topographical Axis and Allies game table and a take-down 4' x 6' wargaming table.
Also not showing is all of the Star Wars Lego, several of the lightsabers on the walls, and the shelving units to the left of the wall shelving holding ever more terrain + bins of minis.
Counted up all the games I've got down there just last week .. at current count I'm at 56 games and growing. I think I have an addiction of some sort ..
I think I will just quit now... cause, all of these are awesome rooms, and things I want to aspire too, but jesus. I have a long way to go with just a folding lunch table and one of those red citadel paint stations in my little studio apartment..

I never saw what people liked about him. He was a punk. Never even caught solo and got taken out by a blind man who wasn't trying to take him out. How was he the man? Was he just the man who sucked and fell into a pit even though he had a jetpack?

It's true, Boba in the series is something of a punk. The sad kid who watches his dad die and then gets eaten by a worm.
However, in the novels he's pretty badass. He fights his way out of the worm and generally kicks butt across the galaxy.

My humble office/hobby room (Man cave 1). I had to make a concession to the wife, in the sewing machine and tailor's dummy, but she has never used it. Suspect its just in here so I can't claim 100% territory. Its not just used for painting though. I tinker with electronics, and in particular guitar effect pedals and computers. The old silver machine is a linux box purely for entertainment when I'm painting (And catching up with Dakka). It's sitting on a pretty hefty Unraid server that supplies media to the various machines around the house. (Mancave 1 & 2 are hardwired to the home network).
Man Cave 2 is currently set up as my music studio. The wife will not allow yet another shed in the garden, so I'm going to re-jig it a little. I have always planned to build a 6'x4' acoustic diffuser into the apex of the roof, so it makes sense to mount it on an electronic winch, and put a gaming table on the top side of it. I won't be able to do it until I'm finished renovating the house though. A couple of pics of how it currently looks will give you an idea though:
Eggs wrote: My humble office/hobby room (Man cave 1).
That is one of my favorite drum sets. Small enough to fit in the car, big enough to still make the noise you need. And they were damn affordable last I checked as well(back when they came out they were about $550 USD here in 2005).
I also seriously envy that room, but have no clue how you can sit in that chair for hours on end.
I'd post pics of my area, but it's a hot mess at the moment while my dad finishes moving in with me and the family.
The HVAC room in our house is where my wife allows me to do hobbying (BTW, the sooner you realize that "your" house is actually your wife's domain, the happier you will be) and it is a mess. I've been repairing the damage that Navin from Painted Figs did to my Eldar and IG armies (yeah, it is awesome to pay somebody to paint your models, and they don't and they keep them for 3 or 4 years and ship them back to you sans packing materials).
