Road to Armies on Parade Part 2: The Orks/ Autism Awareness Project @ 2013/07/04 00:52:24

Post by: Wellpaintedstudios

In May of 2012, I had started on a journey to complete an army to specifically enter it into Games Workshop’s Annual Armies on Parade competition. The goal was simple. I choose a theme that has a good cause and then I painted the army in the colors of the Cause/ Charity. I completed the army with the best intent so that when people asked about why I painted in the way that I have, I will tell them and they will pass on that knowledge, so on and so forth. I completed that goal this year at the Cottman Ave Games Workshop in Philadelphia Pa as the army won in the stores competition in June 29, 2013.

Now I am here again with the same goal, and a new army. I have chosen the Orks as my next army for the 2014 Armies on Parade Competition. This was a tough decision to find an army that will be about to handle the color theme of what I am going to do. I will also be able to convert some interesting tanks and other mad scientist creations for this year.

The theme of this year’s army will be Autism Awareness. For those who do not know the theme for Autism Awareness, it is a puzzle pieces. I do not know anyone who suffers from this but I choose this will all good intent. If for some reason this blog offends, I wish to know and I will stop it dead in its tracks.

For those who were subscribers I welcome you all back and hope that you enjoyed this as much as you had the Sisters.

For those who are new I welcome you all and hope to hear from you.

Please do not forget posting opinions and questions are encouraged. I will answer as much as I am able.

As a reminder, be courteous to the others in the blog. Slap fights are not allow…. Much.

Just to also let everybody know before the question arises like in the sisters blog, what you see in the picture up top are the models I have built a while ago for a regular army list. I will be using most but not all of them for the project at hand. yes! there will be conversions and battle board worthy of the project as will as painting and modeling tips. I will try to stick with the step-by-step format as the prior project.

Subbed.....

Sorry did not catch your Sister's, going to check them out now.

Going to follow this closely for 2 reasons:

1) Love Orksess.
2) Got 2 sons with Autism. Way to go sir. Brilliant idea. And Orks are a VERY fitting army, perfect.

Good luck.

Update:

Today I started the first which are the Nobz.

I cleaned the models yesterday to make it easier to base and prime the models. I am using the eavy' metal paint scheme for all of the Orkz are the army. I do not get some of the options that I had with the skin tone.... Orkz are green. It is that simple. The why I am going to have to varie each of the Orkz are to add little things like Tattoos and warpaint.

I am starting only doing the base coat today which is Knarloc Green. I am going to work more a bit later but I will keep you all up to date.

Ok guys the first of the Nobs are complete. I believe that I have some explaining to do about the paint scheme.

I will start with some theme. Since I am using Ghazghkull Thraka as my army general I have decided to make the Nobz veterans of the second war for Armageddon. I painted his armor and weapons as Ultramarine's armor since.. Well... That is what it is piece-mealed armor is made of.

I am doing something that I did not do in my other blog and that is battle damaged the armor. I have seen some of the GW painting tutiorals as of late ans noticed that their Ork armor is in Pristine condition, as if right off the factory floor.... Yah right! Orks have scratches, cuts, and holes. That is how it will make them. Each Nob will be slightly different due to the three chapters that were fighting; Ultramarines, Salamanders, and the Blood Angels.

To bring the full cause of the Waaaaggggg, I came placing the Autism Awareness Puzzle pattern to all of the Orks.

I hope to hear what to guys think of this twist in the Ork army.

Due to the amount of the models, I will be cutting the size of the unit by half so that I will be able to fit them on the battle board that I plan to make. I will post the concept plans up later for those who are curious. The conversions will not have concept art due to the fact that I create them in my mad scientist moments... Thought:

Since I am adding battle damage to the Orks I am in a little debate on adding blood splatter and gore. It may be a bit over the top and take something away from the army.

personally i dont thinky ou should add the splatter maybe chipping and weathering but not gore splatter i think it would take away from the models just my two cents.

I see nothing wrong with some dried blood on the weapons / armor or maybe some fresh blood. Gore is a bit unnecessary, IMHO blood is enough to give that extra "je ne sais quoi" to a miniature.

Road to Armies on Parade Part 2: The Orks/ Autism Awareness Project @ 2013/07/09 14:42:07

Post by: alabamaheretic

the only problem i would have with the dried blood is it might be over the top with the puzzle piece motif maybe if it was on the weapons and that is it. it might be ok...but i do think a test model should be in order to make sure

Good evening DakkaDakka,

I had a late start today to paint. I mainly added the bases colors on the nobs on the shirts, pants, boots, and leather straps.

I have come to the decision that I will not add the blood splatter and gore to the army. The army has a specific scheme which will be paled if I add the blood.

Good evening DakkaDakka

Sorry for the delay in work. Had a personal issue to handle. My Grandfather (mother's step father) passed away on July 6 at 81 years old. Viewing was last evening for 7-9pm and funeral was this morning. Right after the funeral I had a doctors appointment, so a busy two days you can say. ( not surprised I have high blood pressure... Hmmm wonder why lol)

I did a little work on one of the models as you can see. I added the armor base colors ( ultramarine blue) and the wash of blue. This is to set the areas of where my highlights will be. I also added then first base color to the metal, I use tin to start the dirty rust effect I want for the Orks.

I will have more for tomorrow night.

Evening DakkaDakka,

This weekend I was pretty busy yet I was able to Squeeze out two more of the Nobs. The is one more that will need the battle damage and flock on it to make it complete. I will complete one more Nob with boss pole to after to finish off the five man unit of nobs.... What a unit of five nobs!?!... Am I crazy!!! This is not the end if this unit as a whole I just have to cut what I have in half to fit what I need on to the battle board. The Nob unit is the command squad they will be accompanying Thraka. I have. Battle wagon that will be the command vehicle but thinking of the fun stuff that I can do with Orks, I am thinking of the first conversion idea.

What do you all think of the project so far? Comments? Questions?

Good evening DakkaDakka

This evening I have completed Nob 4 which means one more left for the unit. I chose the black reach nob champion for the final member. Them model is cool looking with the eye patch and the big axe. One he is complete it will start on unit 2 which will either be a regular ork core unit or a loota unit. Who doesn't like big guns.

I will have to let people know that I had a mad scientist moment today on the conversion that will be the center piece on the army. This time it will be painted and Ample room will be make for it to fit on to the battle board at the end of this protect.

Looking amazing.

Half the time its like looking in a mirror for me painting orks.

Ok well, I would try and break up the monotany with orks, soo many boys, I would paint something clanky next, maybe the kans or the dreads, then back at some boys and alternate it. At least thats how I work through a project like this.

Everything looks great so far and I'm curious to see how that puzzle piece is gonna look.

Next, I'd say a Killa Kan. I'm also curious to see how it's gonna be painted to fit the theme

I am curious as well lol

I believe both of you maybe correct in something clunky and a single Killa Kan maybe a good test model to test the theme on.

I have been toying with some ideas like painting each plate in the puzzles peice colors. Paint them all orange and the extension plates blue, shoulders in the puzzle pattern. Or reverse the colors by painting all blue and the orange...etc...etc. I will do what I do best and wing it if I have too... The Orkish way lol

I like how this army is coming out. I am surprised at th results so far. I was at first worried that the orange and blue theme would have been to bright and would put people off on the army. The colors did the opposite and make the army eye catching. Thank you color theory

Understand if you don't.

Cheers

I want to thank you for the offer and I would be honored to place a scratch build model from you, a of the members of the Dakka community

All i have to ask though, if your willing to build something, is that it follows the armies on parade guide lines because if the armies wins the competitions again I will be taking this army to Gamesday of 2014 in Memphis TN

What is the percentage GW stuff required for it to be legal. For example 80% GW model, to be legal or higher?

I can work to what ever you require, and would ask what you would like. A looted vehicle maybe, or anything you like, please just let me know.

PM me if you like.

It feels good to change up a bit. The problem with blogging an army like the Orks is that it's not fun for people to watch me paint x-amount of Orks for x-amount of posts. I want the subscribers to see different things, plus things that they have not seen before. The wow factor is the fun part for me, that and hearing people's stories and opinions. That is how to create a connection with the community.

You just can't leave them orks alone

How long does it take you to draw the Puzzle pieces? That looks like some insane work just to prepare the puzzle piece.

Finally, are the next orks going to be painted with a different chapter armor?

Keep up the great work!

(and a a very late "Happy Birthday!")

The drawings of the Puzzle pieces themselves are easy. I used a .35 mm Micron 03 Archival Ink pen to draw the initial lines to see where I will have to paint in between the lines. In painting the puzzle pieced I use a 0 Rosemary & Co Kolinsky Sable Series 22 brush to add 3 coats of the specific color to the model to have a pure base and use a 4/0 Rosemary & Co Pure Sable Series 92 brush to add the finest of highlights on the puzzle pieces.

 TheDraconicLord wrote:

I still want to change the color scheme to bring together the other chapters that the Orks used from the Armageddon campaign/ Waaagh! However, I am currently having a few problems pulling those ideas to the army. The Red for the Blood Angels will be easy. You see I painting using the color theory. There are specific colors that compliment another color. For Blue there is bright orange, one brings out the color without making it harsh to look at. The Red for the Blood Angels is complimenting the green of the Orks skin already, that means I will add a neutral color in spot such as grey to gap fill the areas between the armor and the skin. The problem that I fall into is paint the green of the Salamander Chapter. Green on Green is eye hurting and will not do, red is the complimenting the Blood Angels already so that will not work for what I want to do. I will figure something out if I must. It will be a little while for that.

I should have the Killa kans completed by the end of the night. The arms just need some final highlighting and the puzzle pieces will need it's final coat and highlights.

Once they are complete I will start in the unit of 20 Orks. I will use three of the models to see how the other chapters paint schemes work.

I will need to find myself some Blood angels bitz and a few Salamanders things if those are out there.

Update:

Tonight I will start on the 20 Orks (19 Ork and Nob with boss Pole) by basing and priming all of the models. I will also start with painting the Ork Skin since that is the one uniting thing about all of the Orks.

Update on the EBay Problem:
Now you will see on a prior post on Sunday that I mentioned that I sold my friends well painted Dwarf Bloodbowl team on eBay and through shipping the models paint job was destroyed. The buyer and I, a very nice guy from Texas, decided to return the team to me and I will give him a full refund. Both parties happy right? Wrong!

I am not happy with having a customer that, through my accidently pack job, did not receive the item that I promised. I have decided now that this will not due. Once the Team is returned to me within this week and the refund is through, I will be re-painted the team myself and resend this team to the customer free of charge. This guy deserves the army he original purchased so I will send him it, properly pack, as a sign of good will.

Before you ask, yes this team is my friends models, so I will give him the amount the team sold for out of my own pocket so that he is not hit by my accident. 105.00 In total.

I will paint two sample models, one on the looted Blood Angels and one in the Salamanders. I will have you the subscribers to comment whether you like the mash up. I am asking everyone this due to that of this army wins the store competition I am taking this army to Games-day.

I think I have come up with an idea on how to bring in the other Chapters to the army. I was thinking that the Ork Burna Unit will be clad in the Salamanders livery, Green with the flame painted on them. The Storm boyz can be planing in Blood Angels red, Death Company Black, and the unit commander gold for the Sangin Guard... Looted of course.

Opinions?

Update:
Last evening I did not do any painting. I built a single Burna and Storm boy to use as a test model. I will show you all the results soon to judge whether this should stay in the army. If for so e reason the two other chapter colors clash with the army than I will just still with the blue and orange for the Amy in whole.

I am also gathering the final bitz to start the first Ork conversion. I need one more item for the final peice to begin... Just remember... Mork made me do it...

Not 100% on it myself. You have done a beautiful job and the green looks great. I am afraid I don't know the salamanders colours off the top of my head to say yes or no.

Are you going to add any puzzle pieces for a connection through the army, or leave as is?

Good Evening Dakka,

@ Camkierhi- The Salamanders Chapter colors are Green armor, Black shoulder pad, yellow or red lens. Their dragon on the shoulder pad is usually in White.

Some people add raising flames to the armor; I am going to go that direction when I or if I finish this guy.

There will be the Puzzle piece somewhere on the model….but only where hmmm…

@TheDraconicLord- The closeness of the armor and skin are what I worried about when I started painting this model. The Tattooed Puzzle pieces are a good idea, problem is that I do not know how to make the puzzle piece look like faded tattoo, if you know I would be happy to try out a new technique

@Kjellk, Alfndrate, and Commander OB- Welcome and thank you!

Afternoon dakka,

As you can see I am partial done the sample Burna. I know that the first thing that you all notice is that there are not any puzzle piece on the model. I am in the middle of tweaking the paint so that I can paint the trigger arm with a tattooed sleeve as suggest. I don't want to mess up the model by practicing the untested technique on this one. I have a half naked reaper model that I am testing the tattooing on.

I still need to find myself some decals for the chapters as well.

I will start the blood angels sample model tonight.

I just found your blog. I have to admit, I am blown away. Both in the painting skills and the fact that you decided to do the themes the last few years. I think its awesome.

I am fairly new to 40k as a whole, so I am unsure about legality, but would it be possible to customize a Nob or a Boy with a Space Marine Chainsword? Since you are going with looted armor and such from the Armegeddon Wars. Maybe also try and throw in some IG CC weapons? I am unsure of the creators vision, but it might be something to mull over?

Thanks and keep up the great work!!

Father of an Autie here so yeah I like the cause you are working for. And I cant help but laugh because at times I feel like I am raising an Ork with frequent WAAAHs of play and fun and "Daddy watch me run in circles and you ride your bike to catch me!" moments.

I hope that this picture will explain.

In the games workshop gaming models, conversion, are a big part of the hobby. I for one love to kit bash all of my models to get the results that I would like out of them.

In saying this, I will have to confess to all of the Dakka Community that the Orks were not my first choice for this year’s project. The Orks were an army of convenience. About four years ago I had started one of every single Warhammer Fantasy and 40k armies (all but Squats, had one of them ) I realized that I was never going to be able to complete one of the army so I went on to eBay and sold all of the armies except for my Black Templar, Sisters of Battle, Orks, Brettonian, and Orcs and Goblins. The Orks I had built already enough to field in a game. Once the Sisters won the Armies on Parade, I turned to an army that I have already had to save me the $650 it would take to start a brand new army.

I do plan to use Imperial guard and space marine bitz through the army where I am able. You will see the greatest show of this theme in the conversion that will be tailored to this project.

Please note that there will be stuff in the blog that will be built and painted but will not make in to the final cut on Armies on Parade. The reason to this is that the battle board is only so big and can only fit so many models.

Kjellk wrote:

I thought about the puzzle pieces being on the tank before but I am currently on a mission to nail the Tattooing a greenskin down. If I can pull off the Tattoo, that will be a new skill that I will be able to push to my next projects in the future.

1-i welcome to the blog and I hope that you enjoy yourself

After many attempts, I found my way in painting tattoos on green skin. I was original adding greens of different shades to darken the colors so that it would make the tattoo look as if it was worked on greens skin and faded over time. This was not working due to that adding green of any shade would change the color outright.

I then thought to forget the skin entirely and focus on the colors themselves. I made the colors into darker warm colors of themselves by adding grey in the place of the green. This gave the desired effect that I was working for the past two weeks. Interesting how easier it is once you find the rhythm.

Good afternoon dakka

Do not worry, I did not forget about anyone and the project at hand. I am currently planning something for you, the subscribers, to enhance the goal of this project. This will be something that I did not do for the sisters but I will do for the Orks. I will have more updates on this surprise once I have the final t's crossed.

For the conversion I had some ideas that are taking shape and will be posted this evening. Please stand by

Good evening Dakka

Tonight I am going to give everyone the first insider the conversion for the Ork project.

You all may remember the previous conversion that is below. The photo is of the heavy conversion flyer that I planned to have for the sisters of battle project from last year, or what I like to call my little epic fail.

You see I have all these little crazy ideas for conversion, some that work and some that do not. The flyer us one of the ones that I say did not satisfy my creative intent. I do not want to throw it out. It cost over $400. I thought to take it apart and salvage what I can from it, then that is where I realize what I need to use it. The Orks! I came up with a diagram (that I forgot to scan) to create an Orkish weapon of mass destruction.

You all will have the daily updates of the builds and step by step photo of the conversions. I hope that you will enough it.

Sneak Peak:

Good Evening Dakka Subscribers

I know this is something that you will not usually see in a blog but I want this blog to change the rules a bit.

In 2013, I themed my army on parade for breast Cancer Awareness. I felt that I did a great job promoting the modeling and painting part of the blog but not the Awareness part. I felt that I think that I had missed an opportunity that could have been great.

This year I think that I will give you all a little peak of what I have in store. I had commissioned one of DakkaDakka talented members, Grey_Death, design an artwork that will issue in this event that I am planning.

I will have my own DakkaDakka Charity t-shirt sale and raffle within the next few weeks. Please note I tell all that you can because all profits will go to an Autism Research Charity ( I will have a specific one chosen before full details of event are reveal)

Before I institute this, I will have to check with the Admins of Dakkadakka to see whether they will allow me to do this.

Once details are out I will inform everyone and if there are any questions, please let me know

Update project:

Tonight I am going out to pick up some PVC pile for the super heavy. The pirate ship idea I now believe is a little overdone but I am enjoying giving the grots some love with there own superheavy and cams grot trukk(which is freaking awesome in person.

Update on special event:

The charty information I will write up and post this weekend for Monday. As I state in the sneak peak, this will be both a t-shirt sale and raffle. I am raffling of some NIB models that I believe that I no longer need: example NIB LANDRAIDER Crusader/redeemer . The tees are more than like be around $20 per shirt, which will include shipping and handling both domestic and international. I will work this like the dakka dice ordering page. Those who do order a shirt(s) will be placed in the raffle as well.

If this doesn't bring the community together, nothing will

Good Afternoon DakkaDakka

I am here to greet you all to my first attempt of a charity that will benefit those who are subscript to this blog and the families that hopefully this function can help.

Why am I doing this? What is my Purpose?
The Simple answer is “because I can”. Within the last year in a half I have been taking on projects, as you all know, Road to Armies on Parade which I have chosen charitable themes to advance the awareness of the topic at hand. I did not feel like I contributed enough on the Breast Cancer Awareness. I made the army colors and the pink ribbon to symbolize the theme of the army but added nothing to the cause. Now I am taking a small risk and adding more to the cause for this year by holding a charity event of the blog.

Charity? What charity?
I am holding the first Road to Armies on Parade Charity T-Shirt and Raffle to help out those who this cause. I will be taking orders for the T-Shirt of the month of October. All T-Shirts will be made to Order so sizes are not a problem.

Did you draw the Design on the T-shirt? Where are the T-shirts coming from?
The Answer is simple, nope. I had commissioned one of DakkaDakka own, grey_death, to draw the art work for the t-shirt and I am happy with the work that he had done to help out. I am purchasing the T-shirts through www.ooshirts.com.

How much will the T-Shirts cost me?
Each T-Shirt cost $20 per. This is for all Size S to 3XL. There is not a minimum on the amount of shirt per order. The $20 price will include the following: T-shirt, Shipping and Handles, and 1x Raffle ticket. Any and All Profits will be donated to OAR: Organization of Autism Research http://www.researchautism.org/. Due to the Printable Donation Form, all will receive a copy of the form and the Donation Receipt as well as a invoice from me.

What did I hear about a Raffle?
This event will also hold a raffle for some NIB Warhammer 40k items. The three large items will be random: NIB Landerraider, NIB Leman Russ, NIB Dread Knight, Plus a few smaller prizes such as Reaper Miniature, Gameszone, etc. You will be able to Purchase extra Raffle Tickets at the Cost of $5 per ticket. Drawings for the Raffle will be Monday November 4th. Only those who purchase T-shirt will be eligible for the extra ticket sales.

Can I win more than one prize?
One Raffle ticket, Once Prize.. Multiple Tickets, sky’s the limit

How do I order?
You can order T-Shirts and Raffle Tickets via PayPal. You will PM me in a clear message the Following
1) Full Name, Mailing Address, Country, and Phone Number (as you would is mailing out a Letter)
Ex.
Nickolas R Ferraro
*** B****** Street
Philadelphia Pa 191**
(215)***-****
United States
Please Note: the Phone Number is only if there is a problem that needs a direct assistance
2) The Amount of Shirts and Sizes
Ex.
2x -Smalls, 2x-Larges, 1x-XLarge (Please be clear to avoid errors)

3) Amount of Any extra Raffle Tickets one wished to purchase.
4) Extra Donation if you was to add to the total amount
5) Email Address

Funds for the T-Shirt will be due by Monday, October 28th 2013. I will send a Reminder on October 25th. I will place the order for the t-shirts from the Provider on November 1st 2013.

When will I receive my stuff?
Once the Payment is made and the T-Shirts are in I will send out all T-Shirts and Raffle Prizes at the same time. There will be update on this page regularly throughout the life of this blog. All items will be sent out USPS and USPS International First Class/ Flat Rate to ensure that all purchases come with a tracking number. I will follow up in each number to ensure the deliveries are made.

If there are any Question I will happy answer them for you.

Please tell who you can about this.

My Goal is to Sell 25 shirt minimum. (more of Personal goal)

If this year goes well I will invest more time and money to make next year’s better

Update:

Good morning Dakka,

The Storm boyz are doing way this week as you can see. I will be changing the color scheme for each of these guys to represent the blood angel units. I will have some of the bitz painted Black and red for Death Company, Red and white for the blood angels, and gold for the sanguinary guard. This will make the units fall into the theme that I have been looking for.

I will be using for lizardmen and chaos bitz to represent the Salamanders theme for Burnas. This will be interesting to incorporate with the full out theme.

@Largeblastmarker- yep, space marine head as the grenade caps.. I need a uses for the heads

@sennacherib- thank you and welcome. The puzzle pieces are tedious with paints. I find that as long as I can get is as clean as I can, paint not bleeding into one another, that I can draw in the pieces themselves with a fine tipped pen or brush to connect them as pieces.

@Camkierhi- Goff is a fun clan for the Orks. I would suggest grays to highlight on the armor. You will need some other brighter colors to pull for the dark colors.

Update on Charity Project:

We are on a roll so far with a sale of 10 t-shirt. My goal is 24 for so that more will be able to go to the Organization of Autism Research.

For those who have ordered t-shirts I want to thank you. Just a reminder that payment Via PayPal is due on October 28, 2013.
For those who wish to still order please PM me with information and I will Contact you with an Invoice and Payment information.

If there are any question, please contact me, time is running out

P.S.
I will be away from October 14-18. I will be at Williamsburg Virginia for vacations ; however, I will still be active on the PM scene but paint will be slowed for a day or too… yes I am bringing models to paint on vacation… my Girlfriend love it <Sarcasm lol

Update:

Good morning dakka,
I will be back with new pictures of the Orks tonight. The skin and leather are complete and the oh-so red armor will be applied this evening. The photos are on my ipad so can't post them while I am at work, bummer right?

The commission job the I was working on was a personally favor commission. My friend Francis is creating his skaven and wanted his lord to stand out. He gave it to me the price of a WIB shadow blade model... Hehe dark elves... My first original army.

Shirts and raffles are still going on.. I have some more prize support coming so stay tune for more

Good Afternoon Dakka,

I have just returned from Williamsburg Virginia from a little weeks’ vacation. I am now recharged to jump head first into this project to catch up on the lag that has been building for a while. You will see more photos, more entries, more… well… those big bad orks and me.

We are at the home stretch with the T-shirt / Raffle.. We are 16 shirts sold so far and almost at my personal goal of 24. Remember those who purchase T-shirt also receive raffle tickets for great times. The more that people purchase, the more that we are about to Donate any profits to the Organization of Autism Research. All information for the T-shirt Sale is in prior posts for those who are interested.

Please remember I am not taking any orders after October 25, 2013. And if you did order then funds are due by October 28, 2013 or your order and raffle tickets will be invalid for the drawing in November.

If there is any questions please let me know.

PS Happy Halloween BOO!

Good Afternoon Dakka!
Update Charity:

We are at the final days of the T-shirt Sale. I want to thank those who are participating in this experimental endeavor. I have explained the reasons and the benefits of your t-shirt purchase as well as great prize support. If this year works out I will make this an Annual charity event for the Dakka site, or at least, within my blogs.

Remember on October 25, 2013, I will send out reminders to those who have not paid for the items yet.

I will do the raffle drawings on November 4th. If your number that I have PM you comes out, Post on the blogs your glee

Update Project:
The StormBoyz are ready for their final highlight. I am ensuring that all of the models are painting with the appropriate amount of dead marines I am able to have. The Puzzle pieces on the armor are going to be spread out so that they are more noticeable to the viewers… which are you.

Once the stormboyz are completed this week I will be working specifically on the Vehicles, Cam’s Grot Rod I like to call it, the battle wagon, and two deff dreads.

Photos will be up tonight to show the progress of the project.. I went picture happy this week so far.

I'm actually kinda sad that I just saw this today. I don't get paid until the 31st, and would love to donate/buy a shirt for sure. I have worked with several autistic kids (anywhere from 5-28yo) and love supporting them every chance I get. I'll PM you and see if I cant arrange something... even just a donation.

This is usually what kills me on 40k models. I want the unit painted as fast as possible, but then I sit there and look at my progress overall and go, "ugh this is taking forever" It's weird because it only happens with 40k models. I painted 30 Bolt Action Americans like it was nothing...

I want to thank those who are a part of the charity project.

As I posted earlier the t-shirts have been ordered and are on their way here. Once I receive the t-shirts will will then post the date of the raffle. This will give the last two people who still owe funds time to send in before the raffle. I will the post the top winning raffle numbers. The prizes and t-shirts will both be sent out at the same time. All donators will receive a tracking number and for there items.

Once all items are mailed out I will post the the donation confirmation letter/email from the Organization of Autism Research.

If there are any questions or comments please let me know

Good morning Dakka,

I believe I have held you all in suspense long enough. The Charity project is on the go as I said with the t-shirts on their way.

I have set the date for the raffle winning numbers for Friday, November 15, 2013. By that time the shirts should be in and I will be able you get everyone the information they need.

I will have to send out a final request today for funds to be due by Thursday November 14, 2013 or the raffle tickets for unpaid items will be voided. Sorry.

Do not worry if you do not have the fund now and you still want T-shirts, I will be doing another order in April for Autism Awareness Month! This again will be T-shirt and Raffle; funds will be donated to another charity so save up now…ß bad sales pitch

Now that reason you have not heard from me for a bit is that I was commissioned again for a painting job. This is to pay for my paints and models for the Orks army.

Good day dakka!

The charity event has gone great so far (minis a couple communication errors on my email part)

All of the t-shirts have been sent out, both domestic and international. I do want hope that people will confirm that they had received there packages when they arrive. Once all of the conformation are in I will take then next step of the project. I currently have $150 in escrow on my paypal account to be place as the donation to the Organization of Autism Research. I still had it in case people are not happy with the the items that they have received. After I received the final conformation from all donors I will then mail out the check and post the copy of the received conformation letter for the organization to all donors and a public posting on dakka. This is surprisingly a lot of work.

Project Update:

I have been toying around with some add ons to the vehicles. I am customizing the battle wagons deft roll and Adding more grots to cams wonderful creation of death.

I have some step by step photos I will be able to post soon. I just have problems with working with greenstuff. It has been a while

Good morning Dakka!

Happy Holiday’s to all!

I hope that everyone in enjoying their festive season. I had a very interesting holiday or playing some Space Marine on my Xbox 360 and crying other the horror of my gaming status.

There is only five months until Armies on Parade and I am starting to feel the itch of competition. You see in the holiday months of Oct-Dec I start to hold my projects and take a break because there are so many things to do; shop, travel, game, etc. Now that the festivities are almost complete with the coming of the New Year, I hope I get myself even more motivated to accomplishing my goal.

I have some ideas what I am going to do with the battle board this year. I do realize that I will not be making a massive one as I did with the Sisters project. The Orks I plan on taking with me to Memphis’s Gamesday if I win so I need the board to be portable. As much as I loved the sister’s battle board, it was just too big to move around without damaging it.

Speaking of the Sister’s Battle board, if I did not mention this before, I donated it to the Cottman Ave Games Workshop in Philadelphia PA which they use often to battle on.

OK guys, I need to get to work and will update when I am able.

PS

I had confirmed with all donators that packages were received or are within customs waiting for pickup.. Sorry for that part.

If you guys want you can post pics of you all rocking the shirts on the page. I do not think anyone will mind 

Excellent Cam!!

I was still a little worried that I put the shipping information in wrong. I know that I had a little trouble discerning the info that you gave me when I was applying it to the customs form. Ugh !

Now that your confirmation is official I will now fill out the paper work for the donation from the Dakka Community and will provide confirmations to the donators of this project

More battle wagon will be up tonight and I will also try to sketch plans for the Ork battle board.

I am halfway there the project so once the Vehicles complete, one thanks to Cam, and the Battlewagon I will then move on to Deff Dreads and Characters.

Great work, lovely orange, nice weathering.

Thank you Cam

I am working on the orange on the battle wagon first, working in each section individually because of how large the areas are. I how started the weathering/ battle damage so that I may also try out some of my rust powders that I have never used before.

Do not worry, there will be more added to the wagon once I completed the main painting.

That is awesome! I hadn't even thought of using the Rust that way, I've been using it as more of a Rust drip down the side sof things.

Please do not panic or laugh but last evening primed models and I just realized that they are still outside underneath around 2 to 4 inches of snow… this is problematic

Road to Armies on Parade Part 2: The Orks/ Autism Awareness Project @ 2014/01/21 19:56:53

Post by: whalemusic360

I wouldn't think it would actually effect the models assuming the primer is dry before the snow hits it. Bring em in from the cold and they should be ok. I've left mine in rain after a prime session before with no ill effects.

Solid block of ice lol

They are still outside I have to break them out when it's not as bitter cold out there.
