Id be a chapter master with my own Agriworld/Garden World in the heart of the imperium. every now and then id send out a couple of companies to kill some orks or whatnot maybe send the odd squad to cadia as a display of unity and say we are "spread too thin" to contribute any real numbers.
once every 10 years or so i would launch a full scale chapter assault at a planet with a few tyranids on it (nothing too major) just to show the imperium that we are serious!!.
in my free time i would tend to my many fish and water the orchids. maybe take up knitting and just chill out. might pop down to the local merchant system and scare the gak out of everyone whilst buying some new interesting and alien fish.
i might even hold a tournement where local warriors can come to try to beat me in a skill of their choice. if they win they are allowed to live in the hall of champions on my planet and enjoy a lifetime of wealth and luxury. if they lose they die... simple...
Oh what i a life. if the inquisition asks why my chapter dont do as much fighting as others i will simply answer with the fact that we are seeing how long a space marine lives for!

The only true answer is to be Alpharius. I could be the fabricator general one day, before shipping off to planet madeupius 5 where I could relax in the quarters of the governor, only to engineer circumstances that lead the planet into revolt, allowing my cell and I, to take a now undefended planet in the nearby nonexistant sector. Followed by of course subverting an ork waaagh the following Tuesday afternoon while leaving a trail of clues to pique the interests of any Xeno inquisitor, baiting him/her into my trap, and stealing their identity or replacing them with a loyal minion.

You don't need hands when you can pick up an iron sword with your mind and proceed to beat a starving god silly with it.
However, the point being, the last time they fought, the Emperor was living on Terra in M1 and beat the piss out of the Void Dragon with an iron sword, while dressed in pre-medieval armor, and then dragged the Void Dragon to Mars on a horse.

Slaaneshi Daemon Prince, or some mortal CSM lucky enough for Slaanesh to grant you a place in its court. Probably the only pleasant fate in W40K, considering Slaanesh warps your mind until all you feel is pleasure, which makes the galaxy somewhat livable. Being a member of an Eldar Craftworld wouldn't be too bad, but there's still the danger of Slaanesh grabbing your soul in the future, going insane in the Infinity Circuit, or becoming an Exarch.

Dark Eldar, preferably an incubi (secure lifestyle and no one has any reason to kill you) or a Scourge (rich, get to fly around on actual wings, killing you is seen as a grave offence). I get to sit around protecting some guy or training or I get to fly around delivering messages, going on the occasional raid with the best equipment available short of Archons and Incubi. Either way I may live in constant fear of Slaanesh, but the chances of my life being cut short are pretty low all things considered.

I'd be a Gretchin Dodger, basically a very "efficient" Grot Merchant. Running around the Grot Bazaars, scavenging junk and conning Orks out of their hard earned teeth has got to be fun. And, as the epithet Dodger suggests, not without action.
I'd also be partial to being a Madboy. I'd probably be a Frantik or a Paranoid. It's funny, it's one of the few situations where a fictional character in a grimdark setting that has a mental disability and is more likely to be treated with respect than real life. Orks are that awesome.
Failing those two, a Rebel Grot Guerrilla. I do genuinely think Gretchin are the coolest things in 40k. Yeah, I know. I need to get out more.

Well thinking about the question makes me think of it in some other ways. I mean one can ask your question and simply say well I like this and this fits me best in all of its Disney glory. But the reality of life is a gray. So thinking of it in that terms my gray choice would be Vindicare Assassin. I would be bitter, aloft and unhappy with the imperium of man. Secretively fancying the eldar ways, longing for them even.
I would be diligent to my work, just to keep my mind off the afflictions and disdain that float around me(Servo-skull) that is the imperium. After many missions and keeping my eye on people threw my scope I would start to delude myself from the realities of 40k life into some kind of escapism fantasy. I would say this would come in the form of one of my targets being an eldar women, and reading the data slate over the things she likes, involved in all this. Find some attraction in all that and end up in the position of shooting her. With the idea of my fantasy vs reality clouding my judgment more then likely logic and discipline will win. I would kill her then, while regretting that moment for the rest of my life. Then wanting to go back to that moment with other wild ideas of going rogue.
In my torment I'll realize I let life get away from me, my chance came and gone due to the skull on my shoulder and the bitter pessimism that blighted my senses. I would dwindle into some activity of guilt to sooth the fantasy I shot. I would dislike the world for what it is then, admire men greater then myself that are akin to my situation such as Corvus Corax or Konrad Curze. I would most likely die on some mission of course, or let the world eat away at me before pulling my Exitus Pistol on myself.
