I guess most of us know what the "Unbound" lists are, basically no FOC, play anything you want from your codex with modified allies rules. So for now, without allies, what is your Unbound list now?
I am thinking an all Flyrant army now. Bring in your Imperial Knights, you can't hit me. For once, we can move out of the way instead of trying to chase vehicles to much on.
80 individual Kannons and Lobbas 20 Annihilation Barges 18 individual Broadsides with 2 Missile Drones each 24 individual Obliterators with the Mark of Nurgle 150 units of Henchmen, each composed of 3 Warriors 120 Lootas organised into units of 5 8 Hive Tyrants with Wings and Brainleech Devourers How many points is a War Walker or Vyper? Take the maximum, units of 1 A healthy mix of Canoptek Wraiths, Scarabs and Spyders
There are so many ways to break the game now that it is hilarious. Who cares about Scoring when I can table you by Turn 3?
Surely so you can do as any RTS strategy noob has done since their inception. Churn out the massive units that you love without having to bother with the stuff you don't!
But will GW finally say FW is legal now? No more and ifs or buts? I am sure they will say and or mention Stronghold Assault and Escalation, but will Forge World be mentioned? That can be an illegal list. I am only kidding. Nice list. I think maybe one of the smalls lists to field. Looks like fun.
OK, so lets see...the primary detachment of my army will be Eldar Corsair.from IA11 (1). Next I will take Space Wolves as allies (2). As part of my Corsair army I will have 1 squad of Kabalite Warriiors (3) and 1 squad of Fire Dragons (4). I will take an Imperial Knight (5), Legion of the Damned (6) and Inquisitors (7). Just to play it safe, I will also make sure that Cypher (8) is leading the Space Wolves. Finally, I will take a Tau Firebase Support Cadre (9), some Tyannic War Veterans (10), a Revenant Titan (11, 12), Adeptus Astartes Storm Wing (13) and finally some Eldar Ghost Warriors (14).
I don't the full army yet (or point cost) but at 14 different books needed it ought to be a blast.
Gameworkshop should allow the Deathstrikes to have their own army in the future and their own codex of course.
Story could be a good amount of Deathstrike Missile Launchers have joined together, combing their powers or are just working together to take revenge on the Astra Militarum.
This may seem unbalanced but they could make it balance, just look at the Tempestus Militarum, they are all powerful and they have their own codex and army.
Better idea.

1980p: 22 DX-6 'Remora' Drone Fighters. 22 networked markerlights, 44 S8 AP3 missiles and 22 TL S5 AP5 Heavy 6 weapons. BS3, Shrouded and Flyer. It's like poking a hornet hive.
THIS kind of hornet.
As an alternative list, bring 15 Barracudas (stock; 1950 - you can have one as a Fighter Ace!) or 11 - each with 4 seeker missiles, decoy launchers, automated repair system, advanced targeting system and blacksun filter (1991p). If you ditch the last 3 upgrades, you can squeeze in another Barracuda (1980p)
Against AV 14, you can get 16 Railheads (stock: 2000p) or 13 with disruption pod, automated repair systems, blacksun filter and sensor spines (1963p). If one of them ditches the disruption pod, another can have Longstrike (1993p)
I create a literal wall of buildings that have the doors facing me. Only jump infatry, skimmers, flyers, FMCs can get over. I barrage you do death with little recourse. Enjoy!
1850 Unbound:
39x Acolytes (3x guys, Rhino)
I fill the table with 39 Rhinos and proceed to either clog everything with smoldering craters of Rhinos, or I proceed to tank shock/ram your army off the board. Remember, if you fall back because of Tank Shock, but cannot retreat 1" away from my units, you are destroyed. I proceed to crush your army under my treads, quite literally.

Not only that. you can booby trap them as well from strong hold. and give all the vehicles flamers to toast them when they get inside
I'd probably just run a bunch of scarabs to screw with people. "Yeah I know they can't hit you, but good luck getting out of close combat with 60 scarabs humping your leg."
Say what you want about this breaking the game, but I think it sounds crazy fun. I don't play the game a whole lot anyway, so it doesn't really affect me.
We can play movie marines now too....
An army of space marine captains!
They'll finally be true to fluff!
It never really did make sense for the much smaller games to be composed of at least two troops choices anyway. And for bigger games those two troops choices were barely noticeable. The mandatory choices for the FOC could only suit a certain point range, becoming a hindrance in smaller games and having little effect in larger ones.
A scaling FOC like the one in Fantasy would have made far more sense, but this one really lets your imagination run wild, I'm all for it!
You sir are doing it right! Tau air force for the win.

I'd like to see any first company Space Marine list. All Vanguard Vets, Sternguard Vets, Terminators, and Command Squads, with a single captain and options for other chapter specialists.
Abaddon the Despoiler was on the verge of the completion of his conquest, the 14th Black Crusade had destroyed Cadia, spreading the Eye of Terror across Segmentum Obscurus. Finally closing in on Terra, all that stood against him was Marbos. Dozens of Marbos tossed demolition charges into the air, blotting out the sun, dozens of Abaddon's Bringers of Despair fell, some Marbos died to their own demo charges or the demo charges of their fellow Marbos which missed horribly. Then with a resounding roar the remaining Marbos charged into melee combat with Abaddon and his surviving guards in the battle that would decide the fate of the Imperium.

CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!!
Except that didn't happen because Creed didn't roll a 1 on the warlord table.

Kairos, flying Slaanesh and Nurgle Princes, Keeper of Secrets and Bloodthirster running/flying around. Possibly a couple suicide squads of flamers, and a big group of Seekers.
All the Necron warriors I can fit to the points limit.
On second thought all TC'tan one for each color power ranger (even pink) and the big T Vault that looks like zordon.
has anyone thought of making a maze out of Aegis lines with as many quad guns as they can squeeze in? heck you can add some ratlings in just to take objectives.

Corsair detachment, 14 Warp Hunters and a dual Bright Lance Hornet counters both your lists neatly. Naturally that army will die to flyers so a better force would contain about 50-50 Warp Hunters and Nightwings.
The sheer volume of pie plate destruction would be delightful.
Independent character makes this not work mate.
Spoiler:
I'd play it.
Who wouldn't play it!? I've also never known Marbo to abide by anyone else's rules, so all these independent character shenanigans clearly don't apply to him. If he's hiding amongst the rank and file does that make him a non-character scoring unit?
The sheer volume of pie plate destruction would be delightful.
You win at everything. Have an exalt.
Hmmm.... First off, isn't Marbo a unique character? So you can only take one of him. Doesn't matter no FOC, otherwise you could have fielded him twice in the last codex that brings me to 2. He isn't in the AM codex so can't field him now.
The sheer volume of pie plate destruction would be delightful.
This. Really, is there any other option?
Well, if you wanted to expand to 2k points, you could add CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED and a few more Marbos... The extra Marbos for the extra killing, and Creed to trick your opponent into thinking you brought something other than Marbo that you plan to outflank with.

Can we add in a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT just to accentuate the amount of capital punishment this army is going to deliver? It will be hidden behind a lamp post and outflanked by CREEEEEEEEEEEED!

At least unbound sort of explains why they removed chenkov
10 Chaos Vindicators with Combi-bolters, Daemonic Possession, and Siege Shield at 1500 points.
Not really that great, but hilarious.
Actually, it's kind of sad that even with no FoC the CSM codex still can't put out the same ridiculous amount of dakka as other armies. 10 STR10 AP2 pie plates really isn't that big of a deal compared to currently legal Taudar shenanigans, especially when half of those Vindicators will die before they get off shots. Now I'm sad.

I quite like this concept, but I'd make a couple of changes.
A proper Batman, Shadowsun for some sweet, sweet cover saves, Farsight, and Sevrin Loth (for gate). Possibly also a Chapter Master for some tanking and combat.
Well, I can't afford anything silly like nothing but Exorcist to blow things away and Battle Sisters to take objectives. I will probably not change much at all.
Now some games don't have a FOC, Warmachine has a limit on each unit on how many of that particular unit you can take, but that is all, and Warmachine works just fine. You may be unlimited in the number of say heavy support you can take, but each specific heavy support will have a limit of how many you can take.

That would be the best way. Max 3-6 of the same units.
Spamming 20 times the same units would break the game....but if it's just unlimited "slots" that would help a lot. Can't spam more then 3 heldrakes, but can still get other FA. Can't spam 40 zoey, but you can still take some venom, hive guard, zoey, lictors and haruspex.
Im probably going to drop 40K anyway, due to a lack of funds and concentrate on my Skaven and HE instead.
Unbound sounds like another stupid venture by GW to try and make a massive profit by selling big crap to kids. I dont have the money to compete, and I wont for a long time.
And frankly, with the balance flying out the window I dont want to stay. All dread armies and all LandRaider armies are not balanced.
But if i could, i would bring 4 Super Heavies

I would look at doing the same, but 4 Baneblades are less fun/effective than 12 LRBT's
6 Fortress of Redemptions w/ krakstorm missiles
6 10 model grot mobs to man the missile silos
Face THE WALL.
Alternately, you can replace the grot mobs with 6 big gunz units with two extra grot crew each for a 44 point savings, which you can spend on ammo runts
Nothing that hasn't been said already. However, it may tempt me to take more commisars in my MT list for the leadership bonus. That, and, well. Commisars.
Actually, an army of commisars could be amusing... who executes who when a leadership test is failed? I can envision the entire unit wiping itself out in this manner
Guys what about an all star list? A Cannoness, a Chapter Master, an Inquisitor, and a lord commissar in a unit with a librarian (probably Tiggy to get gates) and a squad of terminators. I call it the Imperial All Star team!

I love this idea, imagine playing a broken alliance game where you have the HQs from 3-4 separate armies all start in the middle of the table and the rest of your army deploy in a corner, and then all hell breaks loose. My gaming group used to play these all the time when I only had IG, and while the big scaries (usually like a Daemon Prince, Ghazzy, and a Destroyer Lord) were busy beating the tar out of each other I usually had time to cower and run away because no one gave a crap about the useless Company Commander. The odds would certainly be stacked in your favor with the all-star team though hahaha!

1995 Points. 100 Psycannon shots. Giving Prescience to all of the Inquisitors & the Grand Master means all shots will re-roll to hit. With the Grand Masters Grand Strategy rule I will have at least one and maybe three scoring units.
Space Marine First Company Captain with artificer or terminator armour and kitted out for killing
Command squad kitted out for killing
No tactical, scout, or assault squads, only fielding sternguard, vanguard, or terminators with support and transport vehicles
Imperial Guard Vanguard Force or DKoK Assault Brigade All tempestus scions
Tanks, hellhounds, and other close support vehicles
Iron Warriors or Death Korps A few guardsmen or Chaos space marines with some heavy artillery
Spend everything else on fortifications
57 Reavers. Variously fitted with Blasters and Heat Lances.
That would give me the ability to be anywhere on the board whenever I wanted (screw flyers) and the power to drop everything from baneblades to infantry with equal ease.

I like the sound of that.
Depending on the exact wording of the rules on 'unbound' or the Daemon Summoning:
1850pts, Eldar
Eldar: 47 Warlocks, Eldrad.
Or, if it costs 2 warp charges to summon a Greater Daemon:
23 Spirit Seers, Eldrad
How do pskyers summon daemons on the TT game? I've never heard of that rule before...
There's going to be a demonology lore that allows psykers to summon demons.
According to the white dwarf, every race (barring nids and races that do not have psykers) can take it.
Keep in mind though that White Dwarf also said that every army can take knights.

You can't forge a decent item without ideal materials, and the materials that we are presented with are faulty indeed.
Unless the Imperials suffer massive penalties when they summon a daemon (ie, the best they can come up with is a draw, because soon after the battle an inquisitor comes in a smokes the lot of them), I'm calling nonsense. I don't care what narrative is forged; it's still an absurdity.

Isn't it explained at some point that when it comes to nids, the Perils of the Warp is really them suffering from hemorrhaging brains, due to the stress of the psychic power?

Raven is mocking how the Tyranids miss out on all the fun.
No DTs, no BRB powers (and the Tyranid table isn't anywhere near as good as the Eldar one, and it's only one table, no options), no Eternal Warrior anywhere, no allies, crappy lords of war, a mehtastic relic table, a pitifully small number of models from forgeworld, no uber-monstrous creatures that are actually all that uber, no ridiculous death stars, and hell we can't even model spam anywhere near as well as the Guard (or even Chaos with cultists) can.
The only thing left to throw weight around at hyper-competetive metas are dataslates which are very frequently banned, and spamming Dakkafexes, FMCs, Tervis (not as much as before though), Venomthropes, and Biovores.
The FMCs are what you must spam in particular if you wish to win.
CthuluIsSpy wrote: Isn't it explained at some point that when it comes to nids, the Perils of the Warp is really them suffering from hemorrhaging brains, due to the stress of the psychic power?
Yes, but it makes absolutely no sense. The Hive Mind deliberately uses certain units as conduits for its power, such as Zoanthropes and Hive Tyrants, because they are designed with a brain large, complex and powerful enough to handle it, and it is stated in the fluff that using the power of the Warp filtered through the Hive Mind shields Tyranid psykers from its perils.
Now, I was fine previously with Tyranids not being immune to Perils for the sake of gameplay, but when you start bringing the fluff in as an excuse to handicap Tyranids by removing rulebook psychic powers, then ignoring the benefits that very same fluff should grant to Tyranids, that is when I take issue.

Hive Mind is all about efficiency. It doesn't build the Synapse brains strong enough to be 100% psychic proof, just strong enough to channel powers for one battle with a ~75% success margin. They're all going to get melted back down into biomass once the battle is over anyway
Inquisitor, Grey Knight paladins, an Interceptor squad, 2 squads of Deathwatch, a squad or two of enlisted marines, some Inquisitorial henchmen, and assorted SoB that have been assembled in an ad-hoc crusade.
It's the inevitable result of Unbound if the rules don't provide any provisions to stop it. You can now legally cover the board in so many tanks you can just tank shock your opponent off of the board.
Or just be impossible to kill in 6 turns. The henchmen list i posted has 28 units in transports, and it takes 1 enemy unit 2 turns to kill the henchmen, barring them dying in an explosion (transport, then troops). Of course not everyone will use unbound to pull these kinds of shenanigans, but bloody hell it shouldn't even exist in the realm of possibility in 40k if you ask me.
TheCustomLime wrote: It's the inevitable result of Unbound if the rules don't provide any provisions to stop it. You can now legally cover the board in so many tanks you can just tank shock your opponent off of the board.
Death or glory bro, death or glory. Laugh as all your opponent's tanks explode as they charge you. Either way it sounds hilarious, an army of tanks trying to literally run over the enemy.
Well, a battlewagon is pretty much exactly 3" wide, and enemy models can't be within 1" of a battlewagon so it takes 15 battlewagons to build column of battlewagons across the entire board and run an entire enemy army over with deff-rollas. If deploying sideways you can even tank-shock them in two waves. At 1660 points you even got points left to buy some KFFs, an ADL and a VSG for your wall of AV14 vehicles:
Imperial Guard (will always be called this by me. Astra milla whatever means nothing to me)
0-2 senior officer squads (never a bad choice, no upgrades)
How about lots of Primaris Psykers Lvl 1 only, sure everyone need lots of Prescience (may not be in the new rules but lets assume it is) one for every manticore, hydra, and heavy weapon team
minimum Platoons no upgrades just to get, lots of flakk missle launcher teams 21+ I think I have 28 (I own steel legion each box set came with one and I bought a ebay lot of heavy weapon teams which had several) or stick with Hydras how many do you want? facing Flyrants, Harpies and Crones take more.
3-5 Manticores
2-3 Wyverns
nothing is in squadrons and spread out make it impossible for your opponent to cause multiple pens in one shot.
Whats that you went 1st ok I might lose, potential exists that I could come back.
I went first good luck going 2nd, unless you have alot of FMC...did I mention taking more hydras or flakk cause very little on the ground is going to be living.

If I can ever manage to find 57 small furry space ape models for a fair price I will most certainly play a game like this and take plenty of pictures. As it stands from GW, that army costs $755.25

Step one. Buy a barrel of monkeys (make sure they're purple)
Step two. Buy a bag of bases
Step three. Base said monkeys
Step four. Planet of the Grapes
Step five. Profit
Take the METAL BAWKSES list from a few pages back, and replace all the rhinos with drop pods.
I give you the Codex Astartes sanctioned maneuver STEEHL RHEIN!
Take a selection of SC's and your own fluff characters, and pit them against everyone to see how well they'd do!

Hardly Op, but could be fun. Good luck taking out the LRBT's early when you've got 20 bikers, Be'lakor and a Heldrake to deal with. Unless 7th is more different than I expect, this is going to be the first list I'll try out.

I don't know why, but I am thinking of an end of Tyranid invasion.
I call it late to the party. The Tyranids are already won and all is left is Rippers eating everything for digestion and then all of a sudden the enemy comes late to the party.
So an all Ripper Swarm with what ever points you are playing at.
500 points of Rippers? 1000 points of Rippers? 2000 points of Rippers?
Just wonder if it would be fair to through out the Instinctive Behaviour rule. Since it's fluffy that Nids get no allies (will see what happens in 7th) it should be fluffy that Rippers get no babysitters when it's devouring the planet into goo.
37 Jetlocks or 35 Jetlocks and a Jetseer with random singing spears allocated however you wish. Plan: roll for daemonology to get bloodthirsters. If that fails then suicide bomb them into the enemy and have them explode by throwing 6 dice at a psychic test to explode on the mishap table and damage the enemy.

All priests are given the 2nd chainsword rather than las-pistol.
Is this army going to be fun? 110 models with 3++ and priests with 4++ which exist solely to just fight and die for the glorious emperor. All acolytes in the bodyguard unit are just scribes to record how awesome this crusade is.
Got a flyer on the opponent team, no problem, we can't even kill it so we won't try. But we will march onwards to death in the most grimdark way possible!
Got a tank on the opponent team, no problem, we still can't kill it so we will march onwards!
Got something that vaguely has an armour value of 10, no problem, we will also march past it!
Got typhus and butt-tonnes of zombies. Well, we will still die, but it will be a glorious fight!
If you believe in the emperor, then this list will reward you. It is a true test of faith to our immortal god-emperor! Failing which, we go back to rippie spamming.

You can totally sprinkle in some Eviscerators to deal with the tank problems. March over their burning hulls instead of having to alter the path of your glorious charge for the Emprah! If only I had another 100 Crusader models I'd totally use this list in a 2 vs. 2 game. I guess I could just proxy guardsmen though.

If so, that is scary as hell.
I thought that you still have to abide by the rules for what is still in the codex so no like 100 unique named characters. So no 100 Calgars or Old One Eyes. If you can't purchase a drop pod for Tyranid Warriors, then I don't think you can still buy them in Unbound. If it means you can, then it just makes 40K more fluffy because now you can pick and choose what is fluffy for your army.
*edit* took out statement, didn't mean to say it was you. Sorry.

If you need to win with plastic toy soldiers and try to abuse the hell out of it, I think there is more problems with that person, and he will need to look in the mirror and see what is wrong with himself and seek help.
I wasn't asking about Tyranid Warriors in Drop Pods. I was asking about Space Marine Terminators in drop pods. You know, like Space Wolves. What about empty drop pods, could I purchase those in unbound?
Thanks for immediately assuming I'm a mentally deranged jerk trying to topple my helpless local meta, though.

OH I am so sorry. That comment wasn't made at you. I meant that in general to the person who will be taking 10 hell drakes or what not that people are saying about. I took the statement out, since it seemed it was against you. It wasn't.
17 Eldar Farseers and 1 Warlock on Jetbike for 1750 points. Roll on daemonic summoning with everything (if possible). Pop 8 Bloodthirsters into play Turn 1 and proceed to spawn a CD army for the LULz. Enjoy the tears of your opponent as you forge the narrative !
1 Venom thrope per fortification, Zoanthrope either man the weapons or shoot psionic explosions With the cannon ranges you hit everything and the the wall covers the board.

Certainly not. The assault terminators do not have an option to purchase a drop pod dedicated transport. I don't see how anything we have heard about Unbound so far would suggest otherwise.

This has no doubt been said in the ten pages of replies so far, but I would like my army to consist of CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT.
One. No HQ. No troops. No other vehicles, scouts, fliers, servo skulls, allies or anything else. Nothing to sully the purity of the single CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT army.

A singular CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT is honorable indeed, But two CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT would just be beautiful.
4 loc all level 3 all with staff of change 2 with 2 greater rewards and 2 with exalted rewards and fateweaver. Not just to be filthy but its a themed council of change list
Two Inquisitors, naked but for the servo skulls that they bring along. The servo skulls fields such that the whole table is covered.
21 Company Command Squads. Each with a Master of Ordinance.
Two orders each, everyone is ordering themselves and everyone else to 'fire on my target'. That means we have 21 ignores cover basilisk shots that scatter only 1d6 instead of two.
