Oh that's not too bad then (the overdraft that is), 8 months interest free is not to be sniffed at. I'm sure you'll do fine.
And for some reason I've only just noticed the base on the Inquisitor - pretty cool

I think I'm still thinking checkers on the shoulder pad rims and maybe checker the purple on the inner hood with the creamy white - thats what the colour is; creamy Beige (bailleys). Started out a pale vellejo flesh tone but I have highlighted with white and used some washes to give it the impression of being some kind of ceramite material. I've done more to the metalics and the hood but no updates till tommorow He needs his face picking out and his chest jem doing - checkers and stuff maybs.

"I've done more to the metalics and the hood but no updates till tommorow" Ohh, you big tease you!
Definitely like the idea of checks on the shoulder pads, just seems to have that old-skool feel to it, and that's never a bad thing

Yep. Sloe gin crimson. MMMM
The shoulder pads are confusing me - I've done one but the other is a different width as it is not his original arm. So It might not look right - I'm tempted to do something different on the other pad and go for the asymmetrical look, which is kinda oldschool too. Nearly finished but I have to go to smelly old work soon

I love all the freehands you did on that mini : checks, =I= symbol on the hood, etc... The purple looks damn good too!
As for the shoulder pads, from that perspective you cannot really tell there's a difference in scale, so for now it doesn't bother me much...
But think that an Inquisitor is a powerful character, whose armour has probably seen centuries of battle (and damage). Maybe one of its shoulder pads was replaced for a temporary repair, then became an icon of that Inquisitor. Or a grateful AdMech Magos offered the Inquisitor a revered relic from his order & integrated it into his armour... Or any other good reason you might make up in the grim darkness of the 41st millenium...

the chequers look good, as does the darker book and purity seal text, infact it all looks good , the purple is really becoming a focal point with that highlighting, i also like his dirty boots and i agree with monkey i also just noticed the base, i think thats a good compliment though, to have something blend in seamlesly. he is starting to look ancient

Well as always with macro photography the camera sees flaws where the eye sees only perfection. After all the way our brains are designed when we look at something very small the brain is probably filling in the gaps untill we really concentrate. Weras the camera just faithfully copies.
This is probably just obsessive of me but I have seen people paint minis which even close up just look impossibly smooth. I mean how do they do it? magnifying goggles? or maybe they just spend to long on photoshop smoothing out the kinks
But even so he is looking very sharp - a bit more work on the checkers, the chest jem, the face and the base and he is done - probably finished tommorow - I've spent enough time on him now.
One last thought on what yggdrassil said. The other shoulder pad should have some kind of personal insignia as he has enough =I='s allready. But what kind of insignia would an inquisitor have? answers on a post card.

Inquisitors looking fine, maybe check out some heraldry for ideas to a personal symbol.
'This is probably just obsessive of me but I have seen people paint minis which even close up just look impossibly smooth. I mean how do they do it? magnifying goggles?' I reckon it's because they use demon blood for pigments. Or maybe they just sacrife stuff to the paint god, you know, like all those speedy painters do.

hey weety , that juve looks cool, dont think i have ever that model before. your conversion is cool ,a custom mace , is it made from sprue and greenstuff? so is it just the mace that you added, and if so i wonder what he had before? looks like his hand position suggests a spear or lance to me. the lasgun over the shoulder is nice , as is his stub gun. i really like the proportions of this guy, our necromundan gang has some nice characters.

I'm hopeful my funds will stretch to a mug, need to build up my stock of early weety work so when you're famous I can stroll around shows and talk down to the snooty gallery owners
'Oh yah, I see you have some later weety pieces. Hmm, weety? Oh yah, that's what I've always called her, I have a good selection of her early work, much better than this commercial stuff you're selling. Oh, totally, I recognised her work early on, even got some of her college era works. Seems you guys have finally caught up. Have to go, got a important meeting at the Tate in a bit, ciao' Delivered in a very snooty manner of course, all the time looking down my nose at them. Just for a giggle...

Well I said I would finish some mugs today but it took a lot more time and hastle to get the kiln in because some **** parked his ****ing car in the ally, blocking all access to the studio and we had to find him by asking in all the nearby shops. We did find him eventually but then I had to rip the doorframe out of the studio to get it in - thankfully its such a badly put together doorframe that it was easily taken out and put back so no worries.
Finally to cap it all off it came with a continental plug so I couldn't do a test firing.
After all that I couldn't be arsed to finish the mugs and they will keep till sunday. Might do some theraputic warhammer painting and updates on that tommorow.

Post by: neil101
That's quite a day.. i suggest you get some of that theraputic Single malt as well... i have heard its good for stress relief.
So ripping off of door frames .. is that a local custom, or is it because your studio is a squat studio , made for the tiny people, that you have chained beneath your desk?
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
Well its always fun to rip off a door frame. My studio is maybe an eldar studio - made for skinny things, weras the kiln is squat, literally squat!
I didn't get to do any of this ripping - I had a friend helping who is very macho about anything involving tools, he can't watch a woman do a job involving tools without saying "your doing it all wrong let me do it" but I get free help so I mostly don't mind. Mostly....

Its built into our genes i think , men have to take over from any women in eyesight or earshot at physical work otherwise we have no real use in life .. Even if we are no good at the physical things we are trying to do , But as you say , Women do tend to take full advantage of our inherent Machismo, and then complain after wards I remeber last Christmas , there was a Lady on my street and her car was stuck, in the ice, and there's me , fresh from a invigorating jog , pumped full of testosterone, offering to help, but she really didnt want any of it , untill her husband came out and he was like , come on then lets move this car, not wanting to be outdone by a neighbour, ( men and pride and Machismo , its a powerfull mix)
so we moved the car together ... only to get it stuck in a far worse position than when we started She wasnt happy ! and i skulked off home rather sheepishly... lesson learned i think Women are never in distress ! , even when your alpha male meter is flashing alert alert!
so its a webway portal your studio then... very nice!

but to tell you all something, such a manly work a s ripping doorframes and pulling or pushing big stuff around i would also not only ou of machismo but also because it feels grat to let the hounds of hell loose... we men are sometimes caged animals. we want to be running around chsaing stuff, wrestle it to the floar and feast on its belly...even if it is a big wooden box or a bike that has to be carried four storey up....
you do realize now that men cant be truly civilized no matter hw old inteligent or educated we are ....do women understand that...i doubt that...

Also tommorow I have to get finished on the first six mugs so I will try and remember to take my camera and get some shots of the warhammer themed ones.

I use the army painter insane detail brush - its their second smallest and the most reasonably priced sable brush of this quality I have found so far - but it doesnt say what size it is? its very small and pointy.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
hmmm there are some items i still refuse to buy via internet...funny as i spend /t millions^^ on minis so far via ebay. but i was always hesitant to buy me brushes over ebay...
in germany i havent seen anywhere armypainter products so far...we do have however brushes with sometimes rather sad quality in sizes down to 0/10 so this so far the smallest size i had optained so far. i have however heard from a dakka member there are brushtips size 0/20...
but all in all its true to the saying size doesnt matter, i have done on numerous acounts details with just a 1 or 0 size brush and i have to say that the smaller the brush is it cant hold enough paint in its hairs to get a good line...
do you see those problems with your small size brushes too? and if yes how do you cope with it?
for me to get on another painting level really boils down on how to do highlighting and other detail stuff i am currently not able to do so, come to either tool or thechnique...

Yeah I have problems with the very small brushes and running out of paint - but if you really want to do very small details you just have to keep recharging the brush with paint and occasionally washing the brush to prevent build up of dry paint ruining the smoothness of brush strokes. I've always loved this kind of really fine detailed work - you were saying in your blog about the zen-like meditative state you get into when modelling. Thats why I got into the crafts like pottery and jewellery.
Speaking of crafts I'm afraid there are still no updates on the warhammer themed mugs - they have needed me in work due to seasonal busyness - but I can get back to it on wednesday hopefully
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
no need to rush as i said before, there lots of ocasions to need a new gift mug...^^
your absolutly right about the paintbuild up and the constant recharging of the brush when doing details. i just think one could get more better results if the brush could hold more paint, yet stay undried...well i know its not going to happen as i dont want to use chemicals when painting.

Thats the thing - I hear through others that before I ever raised a brush people used to use oil-based paints originating from model train and aeroplane painting. But if my experience with artists oil paints are anything to go by it must have been dire, no more licking the brush, newspaper everywhere to protect things, stinky turps or linseed oil for cleaning or thinning - I wouldn't be able to paint in bed anymore thats for sure - but the paint certainly wouldn't dry on the brush in a hurry
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
YOU PAINT IN BED????? omg thats either dedication to the max or something truly insane...am i guessing right that its something close in between?
so if you wake up from a paintsession in bed your the one who is guilty of painting yourself a mustache on?^^
jep i would never ever use any other color than waterbased colors. not even for household uses would i use wax or any thing like that. after all i got kids running around and stuff. and the smell would make my wife nauseous and i cant have that for sure....she tolerates my endeavors for now but would totally go spare if i started smelly things...i used epoxy once, four hours before she returned from work and all she said was: "what has died here?"...
who said the cure is smetimes worse than the illness?

heh, I was one of those who started off using mainly Humbrol enamels, I can't recall having newspaper everywhere, and I was certainly a brush-licker back then (Yes, I know that explains so much...).
In some respects I found it easier to paint with them, no thinning and even for someone with my sloth-like painting speed blending was easily achievable, however cleaning brushes was a pain, and easier to ruin brushes too.
24297

Well the painting in bed thing happens because it is warmer in bed and I try and save money on heating! also I live in a one room flat with a small kitchen and a bathroom so everything is my bedroom and my paints are right next to the bed on my coffee/craft/dinner table. If people are comming over I just sweep them into a bag. It all started when I had several large canvas paintings to do and as I did not own and easel I did them on the floor lying down. I found it quite relaxing with a few cushions...
Anyway heres some more minis fresh from the interweb - my orlock, a RT human adventurer with a shrukren pistol and hand flamer, and a cyborg with a very plasma gun like weapon (I-core I think). I am all in favour with licking brushes - it defo increases the life of the brush and I cannot think of another simple way to restore the point on a very fine brush (I wouldn't do it with a big brush, mouth full of paint does not appeal) I had some problems in college because I had gouache paints with such appealing names as 'cadmium yellow' and 'mercury white' they must have known what us painters were like as they had clearly printed on the tubes "harmful if ingested"
I'm loving the RT adventurer - I can really picture him as some random rugged individualist taking freelance work for a fistful of credits, trading with the eldar and flying an old tub with a trusty side kick and maybe some fugitive paying passengers (think han solo but with a more cyberpunk dress sense)
Or maybe he can be one of the inquisitors contacts, a man so undercover he isn't even sure who he is fighting for. A man with special skills and a talent for blending in with the mass of humanity, always keeping one ear to the ground for his mysterious master (another film cliche! they just keep popping up don't they)
I don't think its quite time to branch out into other manufacturers just yet but the guy who was selling the adventurer had this one too and it was cheap...

the bullet holes look very convincing...
too bad that most gameing clubs dont allow smoking, or do the in britain?
and if the middle pot gets burned waht will become of it?
is that then usable?
and a further question. i see and think that this work is rather timeconsuming so i guess the major factor for price is manhours here? what are the actual costs for the materials ? are they too expensive?
note please that these questions are not asked to see pricing to be droped, it is my curiousity that gets the better of me...
i always apreciated pottery and a life time ago i started in primaryschool with kneading claysausages into pots...so i now see your work and i want to know more about the things i have missed out on...

well the materials are cheap - clay is about £7 for 12.5kg or £4 if you dont mind brown terracota clay (very messy). Time is what makes it expensive - I will have to get some plaster and make moulds of popular things as this speeds it up a lot. The pipe was just on a whim... No where in Britain allows smoking anymore - They are even planning on banning people from smoking cigarettes in their own car. Doesn't really bother me as I cant stand smoking when sober so have no need for fags in the car.
The collapsed pot will make a fine ashtray or possibly a dog bowl

Post by: Viktor von Domm
yep thought so too on the collapsed pot^^
ban smoking in your own car...well that rules out having sex in the car for so much people...
sometimes i do hate PC ...and i am not even a smoker...i used to smoke too when being pished^^ tho ^^
didn´t make me cough so much then^^
making moulds for deatils sound like very good idea...
and the brwon terracotta clay is smudgy more or why is it messy and what else are you using as it dfoesnt look like your using that terracotta clay above...looks grey...saw that once on a faire...

Its white earthenware, when it dries its white anyway. Well off white, but it shows up the transparent colored glazes nicely. I can do various colours and I also have a lovely celedon crackle glaze. Google it it is lovely.
terracota has brown because it has a high iron content and it stains stuff

so may i ask if you ever served? i was specially told how to hold a cig and how to use it when in full gear in the night. and if done right noone will see it...and with a pipe its way easier to conceal the glow...
honestly even if i am not really a smoker whoever is unable to outwit an enemy from afar (if he is known that is...and in darkness the night is full of enemys...period!) is supposed to be shot...

The eldar style symbol could do with being neatened up so I might go back to it tomorrow and carve it a little, and the skull too. But I'm right pleased with the purity seal.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
as every one is entiteld to his/her own opinion there lies the dangerzone...
i do like the aplication of the prity seal the best too...i think the skull with horns look good but couldn´t imagine myself drinking from something with or made from a skull...so thats something i would rule out...but i guess most people wouldn´t object to that...
the eldar/elf design is to my opinion not done yet too...dont ask me what to do or add as whimpy elfs never were something for me...
but to make it all the more complicated i like the sahpe of the eldar mug the most...
see what can be made more complicated? individuality is something that the emperor has clearly spotted as a heretic behavior and thus suspended ond abolished...and rightly so...
good art weety nevertheless my meekly comments^^

Let me know if you have any ideas which you would like to see on a mug. Its early days yet and these are very quick sculpts so critisism accepted - the shape of the edar mug is my fav too. It seems everytime I am up at the studio somebody wants me though - I feel busy for the first time since uni and it will be hard to spend as much time up there as I would like. My dream is to have a studio down the road so I can walk to it and back. Petrol will only get more expensive. Need to do some painting now... Maybe an adventurer.

Good stuff weety
Personally I like the shape of the purity-sealed one, looks like the kind of mug to cup in your hands on a cold day, has a more tactile feel to it (or at least that's the impression I get from a photo on t'internt ) Having said that, in the last pic with them all upside down I prefer the shape of the eldar one, guess I'm just a contrary SOB (err, not the adeptus sororitas)
All sorts of things you can use car bonnets for - just ask an ork

Yeah, linguists usually have a knack for learning all sorts of languages in a short amount of time, that's quite infuriating...
And, erh, yeah, should I have known this word 'endearing', I'd have used it in place of cute... But it doesn't need to be 'very badly done' to be 'endearing'... All English native speakers (male or female) have a really charming ( ) tone when they speak French..

MMM Beer. Merry Chitmass everyone I'm off to drink, eat and be merry with friends. Like everyone else I will not be getting much painting or modelling done for a while. All that wine and turkey and still more goose sandwhiches followed by goose soup and washed down with a chicken, quail and slice of beef. I am in charge of pudding at our feast tonight - Brandy, clotted cream and plum pudding I think

I guess your English teacher was full of wisdom...
I mean, I never suffered from starvation in the UK, but I saw some of the weirdest meals in my life... As in, pizzas drenched in soup (who does that?) or the infamous 'fudge' : 1/3 butter, 1/3 sugar, 1/3 sweetened condensed milk (how can you imagine that)...
But I have to admit, the English breakfast is far better than ours (yum, yum, bacon, beans, eggs, toasts... )

American soldiers frequently use the term "grub" for food - similiar to the English.
SoS is an acronym (the US Army loves acronyms) for Sh*t on a Shingle which is a piece of bread or toast with a greyish looking gravy on top. We used to get it in the old days, but I don't think I've seen it anywhere in recent years except for breakfast.
And to get back to Weety's blog...I really like the Necromunda figs. I have a warband of something or other that is unpainted - the guys with the masks but not the religious pointy hat guys. I'm saving them for Inquisimunda or a 40K skirmish game.
Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward those that deserve it...for everyone else...there is only War! Hope you get a good drink of something you like. I'm hoping to try a good Scotch or Brandy.

My variation on the peanut butter ansd jellly sanwhich - I'm not really into jelly so - lightly toasts the bread, peanet butter then crush cheese and onion crisps into it, then a slice or two of proccessed ham, then mayo.
favourite pizza - curry pizza with bannana slices...
I have been known when poor to put anything on toast to make it go further. noodles, curry, stirfry, leftovers, soup.

They are bulk old. One of the first ranges done for RT. Except the psyker with the big peacock collar and the confessor - they are early second ed. I think I'm beginning to turn into a nerdy collector. I got an ebay voucher so I went and purchased two very very old inquisitors with power armour.
Kryten yes he was the inspiration for the vacuum attachment! loved that scene.
the scrunt will get his tattoo when hell freezes over, so some time in January or February.
"As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh, haven't you?"
There's an old android saying which I feel is particularly relevant to this situation. It goes: '00101010110100101101001111001010101001011011000101010'

Well I should make better use of the time really - I mean what the hell am I doing right now? lying in bed playing cityville and solitaire...?! But then when I am busy I pine for my bed and laptop combo. Valuable time well spent.
Thanks I am really pleased with how this mad monk came out. It really was quick too. Washes are the key to fast lazy painting - but you have to be careful how you put them on cos they end up where you didnt want them if your not careful.
Ths guy was washed all over with armour wash (I do that with all of them now as it really helps.) flesh tone for the skin, and a mix of brown, purple and white for the robe. brown on the strap, flesh tone with white for the parchment. Then watered down armour wash on the robe and parchment, undiluted armour wash on the feet and chainsaw, red and brown wash for the face etc. finally chainmail on the chainsaw, eyes, teeth and blood (more red and brown wash)
24247
Post by: Ambull
I agree about the washes being quick but it does take an experienced colorist to know what base colors are going to look great in combination, after the successive washes are done. Tou definitely have that ability, I love how these things are turning out. Can't wait to see the next minis.

Chocolategork As for playing with them I don't have the space. I used to hang out with some guys who played and its great fun - specially necromunda. :
Vivian Dimitri (Helen Shaver), a real-estate executive and wife of a recently deceased man Columbo sent to prison years ago, seeks revenge on Columbo by first killing his wife, then poisoning the detective. First she must do away with her boss, her husband's partner in crime, who skipped jail by ratting out his partner. Columbo begins investigating that murder, while Vivian moves on to her next target: the detective's wife. Written by Peter S. Fischer, directed by Vincent McEveety.

He looks like he has got a VHS slot in his cheast and he is about to stick a video on his built in projector.
Orlocks are done and they look proper. Waiting for better light to do photos.
I think I'm going for a conservative paint job on the atv. a few checkers and insignia, bit of red here and there. Maybe a little flag

lol. The secret History of the Inquisition wars shows that they were fought betwen the 2 factions favouring Betamax or VHS
That'll make a nice little scout buggy for your mercs

oh well try I never to take things people say in blogs too seriously (except this one time some hater said that squats were stupid, and deserved to be extinct, I got a bit heated over that), and it was a valid critisism as I was being lazy there - but it kindov looks cool unfinished - maybe he is a fan of skaven and so has the tee-shirt.
It would be cool if they had a vehicle or two but thats a pipe dream - honeys on the other hand must be done - I have been trawling the internet for some appropriate minis and I found one on hastlefree and a couple on em4 miniatures But I would love some suggestions as I'm sure there are better ones out there

Now I'm thinking about a diorama showing some hive gangers at a rave One van with the sound-system in, two vans with fold down sides with the hasslefree pole dancers inside

Nice work! I often pop in to see how this blog is progressing and you sure do churn out a lot of fantastically painted minis!
Keep up the good work.

Thanks they are cool - I'm not sure if I have exhausted the search yet though. If I do go with those or many of the others I've seen then I will give them more warhammer sized guns as theirs are not enormous enough Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and I'm very tempted to buy the armoured rolls royce in the high adventure section and pimp it up, redo the body work, few extra spoilers and such like, stylish paintjob, LED underlighting, alloys, built in jakuzi. Well Maybe not but definitely pimp it up

great minds think alike because I have just this second purchased the modern day heroine and the biker chick from reaper because I love their flared trousers!! Very 1970s and goes with the style of my gangers (they were kindof inspired by 'the warriors' 1970s gangsta film)

Sorry about the shocking lack of painting - I have a stiff neck and I'm making mugs for a few peeps too.
Also I am waiting for the gang honeys to arrive as I am on a roll. I want to get them a car and pimp it right up - grafitti paintjob maybe - with flourescent colours and big stylised writing

That's OK, once you start again we know you'll get more done in the first day than we've collectively managed in the meantime
Nice 2CV
Hope the neck's nothing too serious.

This is what I'm going for at the mo - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150464834928&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en but to save money I'mgoing to think long and hard about making one. The dread turned out ok (still not painted though) so I think I can do it. I really want to paint some miniature graffiti too.
