I did a bit more to the vehicle - Its got two passengers instead of the planned big gun as I think it is just too small for that - these guys are like a scouting party or something - they get in fast through rough terrain, assassinate, sabotage and steal then get out quick.
The girls are almost ready and finished pics should be in tommorow - wip photo
shoes? Obviously pink or red. Glitter might be a little to much. Another time maybe.I want the seventies aesthetic but I'm going for muted and understated as I want them to fit in with the gang a little and not get corrupted by the slaneesh cultists.
here are the finished girls. They look great if you ask me. Their platforms and long legs mean they are just a tad taller than the gangers but they still look good. Also finished warhammer mugs for your contemplation.
i like the shoes of the "latino" girl more, i think the right one has her shoes in a too light a tone...for my taste at least. but nevertheless they both look stunning and wouldn´t need to use their guns in a brioef fight as i´ve said before the do look stunning^^
vik
Automatically Appended Next Post: forgott to mention about the mugs, they both look really nice, does the left one with purity seal have also a shiny coat as the right one? if not that looks better imo (the purity one)...
Mugs: - the purity seal is matt, I thought it would look good - it dd so I may be doing this on others too - it would have looked good on the skull if I had thought of it as the colour I used on the purity seal is very bone like.
a little tiny pink wash would improve her shoes I agree
Great job , on both mugs and girl gangers. I like the green of the mugs as well , nice and subtle. Well your chaps wearing chick is a great model , nice gradients on the pants and good colour choice. the girl on the right is bringing back lots of memories ..lol as are those platforms, i see that you were heading for red white and blue with her , so although i agree with vik about the boots it makes sense to keep them pure white. i think they will make a great addition to your crips, any chance of a group shot ? or are you waiting for your pimped out ride?
Awesome stuff, I used to play an Orlock gang back when my buddies were into Necromunda so I recognize and have a bunch of your ganger models. It takes me back and makes me want to play 'munda again . My gang is painted rather badly, but seeing your gangers it makes me want to go back, strip them, and give them a proper paint job. Great work!
Looks like there will be more mugs soon!
In the mean time I got sidetracked and thought I would sort this chap out - 4 layers of armour wash and a little white paint later I think I am not even slightly done. But I can see how he is going to work. Back in the dark early days of the blog I posted an undercoated picture of this ninja type assasin and some one suggested I should do him like scorpion from Mortal Kombat. Great idea but it sent me into a doubt spiral on how to paint him so he never got done - So I'm going to forget about scorpion and just follow my nose
cant remeber that mini before but it looks ace and walking death^^
maybe all i would add right now is a light camo aplication maybe on shoulderpads just for look not actual camo...
and for this quite hunter i wouldn`t do so much gleam...
Walking death - yes I think that'd be a good name for him. a Quiet Hunter. A little camo might work - I want to work some very subtle colors in as well as I just cant paint a model monochrome even if he does need to blend into the shadows
I will give him a subdued feel - dark colours. Then if his forcefield broke or something he wouldn't stand out - It was really tempting to do a ridiculous super Villan style lycra outfit. Bright clashing colours and sybols - but then he wouldn't be an assassin
I loved this mini so much back in the day, was my favourite by far for an age. God those knee pad designs are tiny ! that is immpressive detail work . wold be nice to see a bit of colour on him as I have only ever seen dark blue versions of this mini.
There we go thats another one down. I think my painted models now outnumber unpainted! more than halfway there. Those still waiting for their mugs I will have more progress tommorow. Von dom do you want me to have a go at the superheroine comic symbol you showed me a while ago? It is a nice simple design so shouldn't take to long.
goes like that:
"he was strictly against divorcy but planned womenslaughter each day..." (loosely quoted from the nightwatch by terry pratchett) please bear in mind that i love my wife^^
to be honest about the phoenix mug i would like to see a bit more detail here... maybe its an angle thing but the look a bit strange to me, maybe its because of the icon and me ahve a bit of a history...
could you add some lines on the wings or break up the formation of the bird structure so that wings and body are not of one piece?
the batwings on the flying skull look very good tho i must say i am not completly sold on the skull...looks something akward to me, tho the eyesockets look very good, its the teeth that i think look kind of wron to me....
but with both designs i think your onto something good, despite my bloody critics^^
ok miss dee, was surfing in your site and i saw what you´ve meant. your skull looks different from the one weety made in my opinion.
please bear in mind all that when i give criticism i only try to help...
the wings should acording to miss dees original be quite longer and slimmer...
also not with so much a wide "bow"?
and the mentioned skulls teeth should be more detailed and i think should genareally one or two mm longer...
also the former cheekbones of the skull should be more pointy...
and maybe its a light problem but i can gardly see the horns... yours miss dee has at least four of them?...
did this help?
hope that didn´t hurt cause i don´t feel good when writing something neagtive about work of people i came to like^^
as for the rest o yer BAH! bunch of perfectionists. The medium of clay has inherent limitations which prevent perfection. One has to work fast as clay tends to dry with to much handling. Better can be done but only with casting from real life objects or possibly a massive amount of time and effort and that dont come cheap. On the other hand von dom, yours was quite simple to do as it was a very simple design but if you want me to complexify it a little that can be done tomorrow before it drys.
Miss dee I think your cup is quite big but they do shrink a bit when fired so my best gues is a bit less than 300ml
Automatically Appended Next Post: dont mean to be annoyed though. just a bit worried that you are forgeting that this is not quite the same as freakforges lair and I cant garruntee perfection and the prices also reflect the awsome power of my very expensive kiln burning at a max of 1280 degrees C or 2336 F
You got the skin perfect without lightening it too far or making it look like leather or powdery. Very rarely get to see darker skinned minis that dont literally look like they are made of chocolate or belt leather. Those shoes are stylinzzz.
Mugs are looking great too The kiln sounds rather scary though, it must cost a ton to upkeep those kinds of temperatures?
well its the most economical kiln I could find. Thanks about the models I am real pleased with the skin tones - found my own special ways of doing it.
But let me conrtinue my rant... in a way the sculpture on the mugs is a mere icing on the cake. The process of making the mugs is a work of perfection guaranteed to sap my strength, learning to throw pottery on a wheel is somthing akin to learning to drive, especially seeing as you have an excellerator pedal... took me three months to get any kind of pot and I am still learning and will continue to learn for the rest of forever. Then once the pot is dry enough to stand it you flip it over and turn the base in the manner of turning on a lathe, this is a matter of presice presicion, delicate beyond belief or you will end up witha squashed pot. Then finally we come to the sculpt... I would love to spend longer and harder work on the sculpt but I can only do so much as this is in fact the hardest bit and I sometimes wonder where to begin but somehow it comes together. Sorry von dom you touched a nerve and I just thought I should point out that its not like green stuff. any concrete thoughts on exactly how you want the symbol to look as I have just one chance to change it tomorrow and then I will have to start again cos it will be dry.
I did a stint of it in college and it was unbelievable.
I think people are looking at the mugs and focusing on the decal, not on how perfectly flat the bases are or even and smooth the curves. Trying to use a wheel for the first week was nothing but a massive mess and I think the best I finally got was an extremely wobbly milk pot. It was very modern looking but in no way what I was aiming for.
The handles and the curve of the mugs belly are what I love about yours, no decal wouldn't be an issue, they are still gorgeous.
do you accept my honest try to make amends for the harsh and not based on actual knowledge about pottery and clay modeling critics? i fully understand yu when you describe how complicated working with clay is. to be honest i didn´t figure that you had to work on a rather soft cup. i haven´t thought about how to do it in the least... the potential risk to ruin the pot by even upturning i can understand, did a few hours in early schoollife and i had my fair share to cope even with suasages made of clay to get a pot right... so again i have to say your mugs look very even, smooth and done with great care.
and i fully well understand that i hit a nerve there. to hurt the artistic soul is always a danger that the careless viewer tends to do....
if i may be so bold i have only one argument to bring forth so:
if i give critics or praise i tend to be brutal honest about. if i think it is only avarage or so i wont praise but have seen others here do so. there are times when i think that works well, i have seen now the error in parts of my way and i will be more careful now. the least i want to do is hurt feelings in that way and i hope my apology has helped you in a way...
sorry for being ignorant about the amount of work you let us see and admire (well actuallly as it seems not enough^^)...
Thats ok von dom I know you didn't mean it it a nasty way - but I love a good rant when I'm drunk! (I feel bad now for not accepting critisim gracefully)
It is construtive to have critisism of course but I think I need a lot more practice before I can really address the imperfections. Anyways any more thoughts on the phoenix? I cant do anything today cos I have a raging hangover - been eating liquid diet again, but I exagerated about the drying - it should still be soft enough to work tomorrow. I was basically just working straight from the picture so I need a little feedback on that, cheers
Automatically Appended Next Post: I read again and see you alredy made a suggestion:
"could you add some lines on the wings or break up the formation of the bird structure so that wings and body are not of one piece?"
sorry for the long absence. Social and work life get in the way of my creative time sometimes. I have decided to build a city out of junk I find at work. The colour scheme is rusty metal and dirty concrete and the theme is urban nightmare. Its not going to be a professional job (forget the guy who does 'my city of death' he is a pro)
this is just so as we have something to play necromunda on - I've found someone to play with (which reminds me I sold all my dice on ebay years ago).
Heres the prototype - The first appartment block is on its way as well - that kinda looks like where I live except its not painted magnolia.
have you considered to use your pettery skill to make terrain? could look like in the first Star wars movie in the village the droids met Luke...forgot the name^^
but i guess it would be pretty heavy then...
your shown terrain looks good to go, what will you add on this terrain and what might be your next thing to build?
heres my tower block - the bit on the side is the stairwell and will have balcony/walkways coming out the doors. it needs some boarded up windows and ventilation shafts. Making some free-standing walkways out of lollipop sticks now! Ive got tons of lolipop sticks so expect trestle bridge style catwalks everywhere. And lots of nasty looking concrete appartments with graffiti round the bottoms and faded fly posters. Boarded up windows, burned out cars? that could be fun to do - maybe a ruined industrial complex with cranes and bulk goods in piles - its all stuff whihch should be easy to do with the junk we throw out at work
cool building block, and it is now able to be built however you want it to. tahts a big plus in necromunda to make the terrain fresh and ever changing...
the trestle bridges sound like a really fun thing to do.
will you use the tincan for cookies and the big bottles too? would be a great addition and i would see some things i might steal away as ideas in the future...
well the big bottles are needed for my small scale wine brewing hobby - I make a lovely red wine and the blackberry is just slurpalicious. But its true they would make amazing chemical storage tanks.
I have found some enormous bits of polystyrene in the cupboard and the trestle walkway is looking finished. No longer looks like its made from lollipop sticks.
you brew wine? seriously? is that legal? well its not moonshine whiskey but still...and i thought you don´t get enough sunshine for a good harvest of grapes in the UK...
well i guess big bottles are not that hard to get...
i have played in my mind a chemical pond out of a saladbox you know that kind of mayonaise salad you get in the supermarket...with chicken and stuff...
its not illegal to brew but you are not meant to sell it without a license. Grapes do actually grow down here in the far southwest of britain but I just buy grape juice from shops! its very good value.
Chemical pond! you could make a whole chemical plant - fun with green paint
yup...that is one good and effectiv battleground in more than one sense...so much things that might happen then^^
Automatically Appended Next Post: and i gather it is a rather rich wine your making then...with actual juice it will have a much heavier set than other wines...for how long did you do that? really ineresting... for me it doesnt work as my wife doenst want to drink wine... she cant stand the taste...
My mum was a great brewer and handed down her secrets in a little book full of nearly indecipherable handwriting. The juice wine is lovely but as you say it is a little stronger than what you get from the shops. I've been at it for years
cool tradition is wonderful, adn a handwritten book adds a volume of mysticism to your work^^
about strong wine...well if its tasty ...well either be careful when drinking or embrace the outcome^^ whatever they might be^^

agreed on parsnip wine except I can never manage to leave it long enough to give it its full delicious flavor.
I think you might have an idea there von dom - making scenery from ceramics. but only for smaller peices.
Heres the walkway. I'm happy with that now and will make more.
Also here is a truely monumental possible building - I would give it a few floors inside and scaffolding on parts of the outside - the big hole in the front could represent and enourmous smashed window with reminants of glass around the edge. It would be very very gotham city gothic I think
Hey Weety , so your back in the gaming saddle , proverbially speaking. nice to see you building things as well as painting, good luck with the city ,you can make huge and easy bulidings with polystyrene , but the best thing by far is the fact that they are free and completely bizzare shapes that you couldnt design on purpose, i also have a load of polystyrene hanging about the house waiting to be made into something usefull , so i will be watching with intent to steal.
I discovered today that even the mildest spray primer has a slight melting effect on polystyrene - Its not completely ruined though, just a little weathered I would say. I will paint with pva first next time! It will be fun to have a bit of a game here and there and the nice thing about necro is it shouldn't take all day to play. More updates tomorrow I hope - going to finish the apartment block.
Lol. I'm just stabbing in the dark when it comes to terrain. I had a feeling that polystyrene would be trouble, Anything else I should know? But not to worry, its free and like neil said it comes in some cool shapes!
To continue with the theme of stabbing in the dark a friend suggested that I should try cutting up drinks cans with my jewelery snips and bend them into scenery. I can see myself getting a fair few lacerations...
Automatically Appended Next Post: knew a guy in uni who used to make little machines out of cut up cans
I have been skimming/plastering with a pva/universal thinner/acrylic paint mix. The latter is added so I can see where it has been applied more easily.
That is the problem with cans. It would be better for dioramas imho You probably would make the edges safe but there is always a chance in gameplay of someione damaging the scenery while slicing off a finger!
Golly, I could use a bit of that wine about now. I think the cityscape stuff is great, reminds me of the old days where terrain had to be improvised and created from scratch. Way more interesting than any readymade kit stuff.
Every once in a while we'll order some gear at work and I spend a moment or two longingly looking at the styrofoam shapes, considering how awesome they could be on a games table, with a lick of paint and some extras added on.
cool - I have a car paint sprayer which I use for glazes on pottery but it would serve equally well for acrylic
But for now I have just covered it in a thick layer of black acrylic paint as I couldn't get pva on a sunday - I think it will do the trick as its a very thick layer
Lol yes it shall be yours. I felt good having done those which has shifted my creative block - Heres the latest progress on the building - I just need to paint this balcony black and then I can start the spray highlights. then windows, then some kind of scalfolding on one side
building structure looks a lot like some of the more filthy blocks of our neigherhood...mark you we live in older houses and have nice stone on stone walls but the other fellas just live in these cheaper blocks, so your really mimiked the real world here^^ cool stuff, specially the columns on the balconys looks really good.the only thing missing is cheap satelite discs now and lots of that...^^
if I happen to come across anything tht size and shape then I will have satalite dishes - rusty ones. The block is based on real life - out of my window I have a view of an increadibly ugly block of flats. I wish all the windows in my flat looked out to sea. Not that my tenement block is much better to look at but it at least has a pitched roof and is longer than it is high
Dice just arrived in the post - might have to have a little practice game later. Also I havn't painted a miniature for a while - the ceramics is distracting me.
speaking of ceramics Von Dom I will have to start from scratch with your mug as its just not quite right. Updates soon
Great balconies le corbusier would be proud of your utiliterian block house , atcually really great , vik is right tyou have captured a very realistic style building, somewhere between the cold war and mexican flat houses. So are the mugs in production completely now? becuase i still have my eye on that scroll one ;-)
cool was afraid to ask after recent missunderstandings...
yep to live at the sea...that would be wonderful... i often dream about that...well maybe one day when the kids are own their own then me and my wife will look out for a flat or a house at rügen, a nice and not to big german island...
as for scale satelite dishes i say do you happen to have those lids or screws of bottles or something from milkcans? tehse days nearly everything comes in tetrapacks and i collct them in the masses...^^ these would give you a good size and also they tend to have built in texture to give it a good wash or two^^
miss dee i cant see your blogs, the server doesnt want to show peoples signature line today
victor - dont feel like that about it - I was just venting. I can highly recommend the sea air and it is nice in summer to go scuba diving or just snorkeling. I feel richer this year maybe I will buy a kayak canoe.
Niel the mugs are in production - I am a bit swamped with work and commissions but I would love to do you a mug - or you could just buy the one I've already done - nobody has baggsied it yet. If you do want to commission me the some scetches of what you want or a photo is always helpful, and it will probably take a while to be finished - it really has been years since I did ceramics in uni and I'm only just getting back into the swing of it
Done spraying - looks very good, concrete. Took long enough though. might leave the details for now and get started in the next one which will be similar but justa bit bigger. Gotta do some more scafolding and walkways and then I can play a game just to get used to the rules again
Spend a couple of weeks without t'internet and weety builds a city I've actually managed to wean myself down to about 3 pieces of interestingly shaped polystyrene blocks over the years, otherwise I'd be drowning under the stuff. Really want to see what the terrain looks like once you've added a bit of graff to it. Maybe a little Banksy hidden away somewhere?
Mugs are looking good, love the glaze on the night-lords one, and glad to hear you've got plenty of orders. I'll get those cars off to you this wekend, and I'll stick an order in with them.
monkey troll you may be a genius...banksey!!! I think I know what I will be doing in may day off.
yeah I've got a friend who used to play w40k back in the day who said he will play a gang. Although as thereare only two of us I'm guessing we might have two gangs each and take it in turns. I've got a complete goliath gang half painted, the space eunuch will make a good leader for them, the orlocks just need a heavy. I only have 5 eschers 2 delaques and 4 redemtionists / cawdor so I was thinking of using the RT mercenaries as a gang - they can have some special rules. They all have mesh armour an autogun and maybe a few other bits of equipment - nose plugs and eye filters etc, maybe grapnels. This must be included in their base price,
the gang has no juves and the loot must divided up as equally as posible after any battle which earns credits - this money is only to be spent on this ganger and if he dies the credits are lost. Leader gets double share. If it cant possibly be made equal the leader gets any spare creds. Territory creds go to a communal pot as normal.
This will make it harder to recruit new members so I probably better think of some special rules to give them an advantage. Maybe they can have 2 heavys right at the start and pay less for them thna other gangs.
And maybe they should always have reloads to represent their proffesionalism
Might make up some special games for them where maybe they get hired to fight off alien raiders and get paid for it. Or they can get paid to head out into the badlands to retreave archeotech and kill zombies
Wow there is some great stuff on dakka this morn! the building looks grim and depreesing with not enough light and too close to your neighbours.......or is that my childhood ;-)
i lived in the top story of a block like these growing up , and we use to play footie on the roof until the ball blew away and chuck our toys down the trash chute , and catch them at the bottom , ....arh innercity sqaulor those were the days...
Your rules sound fun. i have never actually played necro , but i do like the idea of rpg miniature gaming , be sure to post a battle report etc.. when you start.
those grafitties look surpreme! as if taken pics in your neighberhood...really cool.
you could print out some posters still, chibi mentioned he has some old ones for 40k size...
no old recruitment posters with added moustaches or that antisocial sign? also what about old blood effects like a summary execution was held there also what about burnmarks? adds such a tasty soul to a building^^
GW used to have PDFs of various posters, signs, etc, when they put out Cityfight. May be able to find them and their 'gothic' building templates online.
Also, I did a search for WWII propaganda posters, when scaled down to 28mm size, you can't tell they're not imperial made. I photoshopped a pile of them into one image, and printed them out on a colour printer. BOOM! Instant stuff. And, remember, posters are put up in big ole' mashable groups, or along a wall that lines a street, not one by one.

Thanks everybody - I would also love to see this poster file - big rows of posters here we come.
Have added scorch marks to a hole in a side wall so it looks like its been hit by a missile.
Please feel free to pinch ideas. I did a project on local graffiti when I was studying. Our local graffiti tends to be really badly done which gives it that grimy flavour. You might not associate sunny Cornwall with urban decay but just outside of town is the Gwarvas estate which was number one on a programe called "Britains worst small town estates"
Big city councils pay our local council to take problem families off their hands and put them in Gwarvas, which on the plus side leads to a lot of graffiti. On the down side I am always having to keep my eyes peeled for smack heads shoplifting with big tesco 'bag for life' bags
This is the coolest piece of graffiti I ever saw in cornwall - so I painted a painting of it
Painting a painting of a wall painting is pretty epic. That's some inception depth right there. GO DEEPER WEETY.
Your ruins need more Smeg scrawls. Perhaps Smeg and the Heads. They are looking really great, I think its awesome that you took random blocks and made great terrain out of it. You should do some dark moody realistic shots of your models hiding in it when it is done.
HAHAhahah lol. well I could paint a painting of a wall with a painting of a wall with a painting on it.
Smeg! I had forgotten completely about smeg until I dug this painting up. I laughed so hard once when I was in a big comet store and came face to face with a smeg fridge.
I have the next tower block stuck together and I'm about to start the laborious process of painting the damned thing. having a horrible alergic reaction to something today, feels like hay fever except I dont get hay fever and its january. So I'm scrubbing the flat for primer dust.
awsome sauce and cool beans. Thanks a lot - your game board looks like fun and very realistic.
Good news - I think it was the primer, Having scrubbed the primer dust off the bathroom floor I feel much better and am no longer sneezing. I wish I had an 'outdoors' to spray in.
Cardboard box, dryer exhaust tubing, small box fan, duct tape.
Cut a hole in the bottom of the box the size of your fan, tape it in place. Make sure the fan blows OUT of the box. This is now the BACK of your spray booth.
Tape the exhaust tubing to the fan, use cardboard and whatnot to make a decent seal, so the fan is blowing down the tubing.
Put the exhaust tube out a window, and turn the fan on.
A good size balcony means there's a nice killing field availabe
That pic reminds me of a little gripe I had about the earlier shots - the books weren't in focus and I couldn't make out what they were (What can I say, I have some sort of fetish thing about other people's book cases )
the new block has some air of the empire state building on it... don´t know had this flash when looking at it as if a big ape might crawl into the pic any minute...
looks really good although i miss your color here...decision or failure of cam?
i thought about sprying indors but if i would attempt something like that my wife would skin me alive... she is very sensitive to smells...so i prime only in the cellar or even outdoors, maybe i will post a pic of some of my sons marines i pried today, did a nice aperature to hold them all in my hand whilst spraying them...smelly even so tho...
and braincj, these posters are wonderful...will download the instantly for further possible uses^^ thanks a million
feel better now - dusted everything. I guess I will have to sort something out as I've got to spray these buildings. They are just too big to do any other way
Monkeytroll I agree - bigger bacony for a more interesting game.
I thought black and white gives a feel for how it will look when painted grey
ouch....cellar works fine by me.... it just needs some planning and you cant be "nned it right this mninute..."
well with primer anyway...
although i primed some minis for my oldest son yesterday and i even smelled some fumes (cant smell a dead cat otherwise if it was shoved down my nostril....) so inhouse is for me too a no go...you cant get that stink away in a hurry....
at least the balcony when temp allows is a good way...though my wife would probably object agianst that too...she (over-)compensates my useless nose quite good...
Your terrain is comming together nicely , I think someone mentioned this earlier , but liquid nails or no more nails is perfect for gluing this stuff together ! Are you going to base the buildings with some mdf? btw i usually paint mine with exterior textured paint, gives it a nice surface for the paint ,but hates nicely painted minis uurrghh !
Heres my cityscape so far, need another two buildings and some walkways before I can really call it ready to play on.
(quick plug) In the background is my plastic androids - They made us do a project on plastics at university and I was very sceptical, but it turned out nice - I want to do a big board of these faces like a chess board. Need funding and a venue first.
Daft Punks in da house! The building look fun!, btw Thank you for the Mug It arrived safely and well packaged today , Iam very pleased with it and highly reccomend them!
Oh, yeah, should mention the androids too What you get when I reply from work - all a bit disjointed I like 'em, love the little baby hands for eyes A huge installation of those would be pretty cool. Did you mould the masks or were they 'found' ?
Well it was a tricky process actually - I bought a plain face mask from fancy dress shop but it had no fore head so I pressed it into a block of clay and hollowed out a forehead, then cast the space with plaster of paris - then I had a plaster face which I used a vaccum forming machine on to give multiple plastic faces. I was very pleased with the baby hands too! really freaky!
The books... not read webster either - I have hundreds of books because I sell them on ebay and ebid. Most of them are mine and I've read them - love will self and sue townsend. But sometimes people give me books just because they know I sell em. I have three bookshelves, probably over 500 books. I will make sure to include the bookshelves in my next photo so you can have a good book perv!
Glad the mug has arrived neil. I really loke drinking out of a homemade mug, it feels so smooth and organic on the lips - its almost like snogging tea. (no really) hahahahaha lol.
They are very judge dread I would say. I have a vague memory of a thing called block wars where the citizens just open fire on the tower block opposite because they are bored and lonely
Hey monkey troll - Another opportunity to strain your eyes reading blurry book titles, picture also includes a new tower block. This one is a bit more open plan.
Yay, book porn!
Yep, that's strained the ol' peepers all right. You big tease, they're so close to being legible. Bit of Banks (what's the omnibus ?) some Tom Sharpe, Stephen King, for a moment I thought the Inventions might be a big Heath Robinson book which would be pretty damn cool, but I'm guessing it's the Macmillan encyclopedia. Lots of stuff that's oh so close to being identifiable
I wouldn't be able to buy and sell books, as I just find it too difficult to part with books - a real pain with small dwellings (It broke my heart to cull a couple of hundred from my library when I moved in)
Just two androids, I messed a lot of the faces up in the rather trial and error processes of making them, and threw away a few because of the whole small living space issue!
Automatically Appended Next Post: I didn't like the idea of selling books at first, but then I realised that if I sold a book I liked then eventually I would come across it again at a car boot or charity shop. And so long as I always sell them for a little bit more than I buy them for I can buy as many as I want...
It does look a bit like a car park - but the scale is wrong so its not.
That is pearl necklace - found that one in a friends attic. It was very funny and educational... I learned that being sick in the head is no barrier to a being a successful cartoonist! You've made me want to read it again now.
It really is Heath Robinson? Cool. Oh yeah, I've just had a peek on amazon, hmm, maybe some more late christmas presents to myself.
Yeah, my head knows that I could easily come across the book later, but afraid the heart has a strict embargo on exports - my friends talk about me being really non-materialistic, but 'tis not true, me and books are like Smaug and treasure.
I think it's entirely feasible that Mr Robison was channeling GorkaMekka.
Some of the stuff on Mongoose looks intersting Miss Dee. Is that a re-dux of the old JD rpg, or is it an entirely new product do you know? I'm guessing the latter as it states it was based on traveller, and I can't recall many similarities between the two systems, but that was what, 15-20 years ago now. If I still gamed the Stronty Dog and Slaine games would be a dead cert.
now thats what i call a quality update...really you´ve done the ol phoenix credit, i love it...so well then i think it is time for further info? via pm or here? color etc...
the dread i have seen in your beginings of this blog i guess and this will be a truly nostalgic happening^^ even if i am not that old in years and expierience to have witnessed these models in true...but it looks really good now primed and first washed...
Thanks yeah I really want to make another dread now - bigger more modern one maybe.
Glad you like the mug - the little details make all the difference! Colour wise I'm tempted to say red fading into purple on the background and golden yellow on the bird, but thats up to you - pm me if you like
no need to pm as your idea sound super! the detail is really not comparable with the first try anymore...looks like you aimed for the real thing and hit a bullseye^^, the mug will be a present for mywife and the colors you suggested would work quite well with her personal colorscheme^^
you doing a modern day dread would be a nice to wait for. from what material would you plan to work with? clay or the more modern day brownstuff and GS?
Thanks Mr Angus they have been a pleasure to paint. I wish I had more creative power and more hours in the day for this project. I think I can safely say that the rest of the unpainted ones will keep my busy well into 2011.
All the support and appreciation has been invaluable and kept me company when friends in the material world are busy and far away.
monkeytroll you have minions! What evil plans are concocted in this workplace of yours? is it situated in a hollowed out volcano?
Unfortunately we had to relocate from the volcano, HR were giving us grief about workers getting trapped in the Death Maze, and to be honest, the commute was a nightmare.
Hey Weety ,looks like the your popping em out of the oven one after the other now, if you excuse the pun. great work on finishing the dread it looks very much like the originals, maybe a little softer on the edges , but we all know squats are cuddely little buggers ! Its legs look really nice especially the feet.
@ Monkey , you mean they didnt install the lava boat with hover mode and custom gps units , what kind of cheapskate evil empire are you working for , tut tut tut.
"I think the sharks with the frigging lasers on their frigging heads would be a great investment for the company and keep tardiness and sick-days to a minimum"
The shop I work in could do with somekindof shark pool for dunking shoplifters. That'll learn em
Wow Stargate ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha! i used everyones fair share , great work, is it going to be glazed? and if so will that make it too shiny , or would you then over paint it?
Cool stuff here man! We have a lot of the same figures. I've got a squat laying around somewhere, and some old guardsmen and eldar too. Nostalgia is in some ways better than the superior plastic figures of today...
I'll have to read this whole thread over a cup off coffee
this stargate looks really goo, you should consider giving that as a license to maximini or chapterhouse to produce them and be a rich modeler and drink your drinks in the hot sunset...
really i can imagine lots of people by that too. and because of the medium clay it will provide a good first "green" for casting...
It had crossed my mind that I should make some moulds - but I need materials I dont have yet. Probably wont before it dries either sadly - next time I guess. Thanks for the vote of confidence though!! This is the biggest and best thing I have made since university.
if i understood your colorchoise right this will be a nice thing...ähm, will you be making the "splashy" middlesection? like when its operated?, saw some cool effects on a thread here about portals once...will search for that thread...
I'm way ahead of you! Well I'm going to the pub for beer and men and I hope to see lots of flattery and praise here by the time I get back. More updates on the stargate tomorrow.
I think that the smaller older landspeeder will go through but I heard the new one is bigger?
You could defo slip a sentinal through but a rhino would get stuck
Automatically Appended Next Post: I was tempted to do a circluar cutout of the blue splashy bit to go in the middle but will have to see how it goes
Nice job, eyes and lascannon particularly effective.
Of course you'll add some freehand, if snyone deserves it, it's an entombed, honoured warrior chosen to fight on for the geezer on the golden lav after he should have died.
great idea for the lascannon end! It almost looks like a walking futuristic stone golem , its very subltly painted weety , and the addition of the purity seal really rounds things off! the eyes are so intense like they are buring a hole in my soul.
thanks yes I will do a group shot when the light is favourable.
I am please with how it turned out - the slight roundedness of it is partly due to limitations in my technique and materials but I think it works in this context as the head is very rounded anyway and this compliments the shoulders and legs. Next time I make a vehicle I'm going to buy some plasticard so I have the ability to do proper right angles and entirely flat surfaces!!
i think he looks way awesome...and considering how you did eyes and lascanons i suggest when time allows you should do something that involves fire and lots of flames...i think you could pull that off quite nicley...
did i say i like your dread? if not, "i like your dread!^^"
I really like the eyes on your dread. They make the model "Pop".
I finally took some shots of my RT Orks. They are in my Dakka gallery. I'll just put one here so that I don't clog up your thread.
These were my first WH40K army back in 1987-88 when Rogue Trader was published. I still haven't finished off the minis I bought then (22 years ago). Your blog has me thinking about painting a few of the cooler ones - especially my Ork dred and buggy.
Your dread seems very much in the spirit of the original game before it became so Grimdark. Your color palette also reminds me of the RT era. I like that.
Been away for a while - back and in love with the progress: the stargate is gorgeous, that is seriously a lovely piece of work and quite honestly doesn't even need paint on it.
And the scratch built Dread is AWESOME! It looks great on the base, overall it is very cohesive and I'm getting Dread-inspiration. Can't say it enough - that Dread is so cool.
Wow that shark made me cackle like a kookaburra. I think you are onto a winner. those space orks are awsome JB! So funky!
Thanks for all the praise, it keeps me from getting lazy - speaking of which I really must go to the studio before work today and continue mug making and stargate carving
the shark head is from a current set of LEGOs...sorry for that spoiler^^ my kids would tear me limb from limb if i would nick their loved ones from them...^^
also what a way to use some oop lasguns...tstststs
but truly this is what a real supervillian needs in his channels surrounding his underground secret hideout...at least a dozen...could be varied with just some fins on a base with some watereffects...^^
yeah, do some more great work on the stargate! how do you keep the clay workable for so long time?
I am smug 2day! It is done and finished. Now firing and glazing is all thats left. The stargate was kept moist with cling film - or sarran wrap as I hear its called in USA. This isn't a permanent solution as cling film is slightly permeable to water.
I would say it is roughly the right scale but I didn't actually measure it or anything - it will shrink a bit anyway when its fired. But is is pretty much the right scale for RT minis and might look just a tiny bit small with the newer taller space marines. but I wont know for sure till its fired.I will post shots with some minis soon
You're supposed to be terrified, not laughing like a maniac That's a shark. With a laser gun. On it's friggin' head. See that reaction just goes to show what evil geniuses have to put up with these days. Granted, alliteration levels are up, there's a definite increase in cross-species knowledge, but it's so hard to get the levels of fear and awe from the staff.
Sweet looking stargate though That metallic blue looks like it'll be very nice in place.
ha just noticed the shark , lol and the updated stargate. so can you get stargate figures? the runes look really nicely detailed , i bet its tricky getting a fine detail look with clay, but you seem to manage alright.
Lol looks like they beat me to it! oh well - you will probably be the only one with a ceramic stargate anyway
very fine details are hard to in ceramic but its possible with patience. The main limitation which is evident when comparing mine with the metal one in that link is that I have had to make the thing just a little thicker than it should be simply to minimize the possibility of it falling apart during the drying process. Also very thin ceramics is vulnerable and I wanted to make it strong enough that it could be used as playable scenery.
Painting an inquisitor tonight - very slow progress though
just a curious question: is it possible to give clay a steel skeleton like concrete? i know that the later is not cured in an oven but still, could that work?
victor - there is in fact a way of doing this - one needs to use Nichrome wire as it has a high melting point and is resistant to oxidation. Its also very expensive - 125 grams costs 15 pounds. But I might get some is it seems like the answer to a lot of problems.
ouch....for me who deosnt use a oven to "backe" clay i would also add something like PVA glue...reading itz now seems a bit stupid now...well i thought what works with plaster could also work for clay...nope, or?
I think the pva would vaporize within the clay - this would either lead to explosive shattering if it wasn't well mixed or possibly some kind of porous cratering effect where tiny amounts of pva had burned away out of the surface. I'm not sure I care to experiment!
Inquisitor is going to be off-white bone and navy blue with gold and purple details
I remember reading about the Perry's when they made their first master sculpt for casting after being hired. They didn't know the moulds were formed in ovens, and just as they did for all their sculpts used plasticine in the core of their master, which led to a slight exploding incident in the workshop.
Weety I got something to show you! Was trolling my pdfs last night building a army (if any one is reading this I scanned all my stuff before leaving the uk because books are heavy). And I recalled something...when I get it on this computer I'll PM to you...
ouch... *facepalm* when using as discribed by me PVA inside a clay figure then it is the same as using an egg in the microwave.... burst about to happen... silly me...
my knowledge of all handywork is all try and error learned and i try a lot...hmmm but if we play this idea out it could lead us to some unique selfmade cracked earth bases...
I think you need to have watched the austin powers spoof spy movies - the evil genius wants sharks with lasers on their heads to guard his evil hideout and gets very angry with his evil henchmen. Its a classic cinematic moment!
I don't remember that moment... I have only watched one of those once, and some time ago, so it may either be the wrong one, or I have forgotten about it entirely...
From Goldmember I think yggs - tbh I haven't seen it myself, but knew the reference
just need to clean up the mouth and maybe another layer of water effects (the water is a little bit greener than the pics show)
Inquisitor looks cool so far, maybe some freehand on that gaping white space on his calf?
And yeah vik, I'm thinking a squad might be cool Maybe a little war-band using some of the secret-agent figures they had on the site weety got those honeys from.
Your right too - that leg is just crying out for something. I was thinking thin swirly ivy patterns in purple - like wall paper! I might make your spanner glyph mug today - depending on how dry the mug body is when I get in. Did you decide what glaze colour/effect you want yet?
For the mug I'm thinking a fairly bright red with either a yellow or blue glyph plate if you used the plate, if you decided against the plate I think a nice dark red.
I couldn't afford an orlock heavy as they are like gold dust. So I bought this guy with no gun and no hands and wacked a massive gun on him - Auto-cannon or heavy stubber I guess. He needs some GS work to neaten him up
I thought that was an Orlock heavy, or did you specifically mean a complete model? A conversion job's always better anyways says I
Nice mug, as it happens I know a mek who'd love one just like that
Oh, and I just found the box I'd lost with the doors and bonnet in, I'll get those off to you tomorrow, maybe throw in a belt feed if I see one before.
awsome! I will send up the ork-like steamroller soon - can wait to see what you make of it, I just know that a steamroller is what orks have always wanted for xmass. I think I need plasticard for the pickup - I might have a go with cardboard though.
He is an orlock heavy - its the ones without missing guns that are so damned expensive - like 7-8 quid at the mo.
I'm going to put some warhammer on ebay later today - free listing day and I've got loads of duplicate RT models and some old warhammer fantasy stuff.
Vic - light source is a big sheet of white card reflecting sunlight! I use it for the mugs and thought I would try - its very bright but a bit sterile and dull don't you think?
yep weety thats what i thought too, the LIFE is missing of your model now... also there are some nasty blue patches of light on the mini you normaly don´t have...
better go back to your regular rutine^^ much better pic results..and we love them that way much better!!
heres a link to my listings - they are not cheap I'm afraid - dont really want to let them go but on the other hand there is not much point in keeping duplicates as I will never get around to painting them http://shop.ebay.co.uk/weetyskemian44/m.html
awwwww.... no fair not offering europaen postage...
got me beady eye on that shotgun wielding goliath...would be a nice addition for my catachan force...err..aussi bushwhackers...(vets)...
what Briancj says works in germany too...
i guess when your in a DIY store and leave under two hours your not digesting the stuff sold thoroughly enough^^
there is an endless potential to the stuff you get there...
though i have to say weetys stargate looks superior to the white dwarven one^^
also if i can make a recommendation here to materials...:
there is a special rather thin styrofoam thats used to insulate kind of the wooden floar known as parquet floor...
the wooden panels get a underground builtup to mask sound... thsi is normally a white or a green foamsheat... also sometimes they use cork... but these foamsheats could be used for great wall building for archetectual buildings...
try to search in the wood department of your DIY store...
well I wish I could do more of it but they keep making me work in work. Eventually I will have to actually voluntarily give up shifts to someone else and do more creative work instead - its by far less soul crushing and it seems fairly popular.
I think I have temporarily lost the will to paint though. I know I really want to but I think I might have to take a holiday to really get going again
An inquisitor arrived in the post today - got the one with the pointy beard, terminator armour and bionic leg. Also I recently got hold of some more oldschool space pirates! Photos tommorow maybe if I can snatch a moment in my annoyingly busy scedule.
Then maybe I will pull a sickie and get something cool painted
lol Talks about taking a painting break in one line, and on the next thinks about taking a sickie to get some painting in Face it girl, you're a paint addict.
Work does have that annoying tendency to want you to work, no consideration at all.
That's a cool inquisitor, be nice to see what you do with him (whenever you do ), and look forward to some more old-skool piwates.
finished the older power armour inquisitor - if you zoom in you can see that this is a very primitive sculpt - its very old so we will let them off - but I think the model is prety cool still
She's back in the saddle Yeehaw! Fantastic paintjob weety, the flames are spot on , but i have to say the award for most original leg greaves goes to weety skeemian 44 for her detailed work on the epic Inquisitor in Powered armour!
he is an ugly chappy though . also nice basing , it ties in to his hair very neatly , the power fist is ver red! would be cool to see a simialr attention to detail as the plasma gun on that crimson fist!
glad your back .. now dont scare us like that again.
very classic and patriotic scheme...like the flamer too, it looks super.
second the comment of the powerfist too of neil...needs a bit of something there...
also the "fleur de lis" like freehand (?) looks very delicate...
you can be very proud about your paintjob with this rather ugly mug^^ you did him more than justice^^...seeing his "face" he looks like you could call him inquisitor ape lincoln...
The classic 'one eye not quite the same as the other' sculpting that was popular back then. Ivy turned out well, but the white looks a little flaky on the greaves, can't tell if it's paint or mini. I like the red fist, was thinking you might have done the details in bone, but don't think it would look great with the other colours.
Looking forward to the slaanesh beastmen, seeing a few more of them might get me motivated into pulling out some of mine again. Probably not, but might
At last my chaos warband has some meat to it. They are not the most carefully painted minis I've ever done but they are the most colourful unit and they didn't take long either.
Your mug should be amongst them - unless it exploded! I'm sure it hasn't but you never quite know until the lid is open. Its quite exciting really - I think it should be cool enough to open by 4-5 oclock
They do look a little like a rock band - a glam rock band!!
thought that too... maybe you should have given one of these bunch of rockers a kiss makeup...
the axewielder is in my opinion the main reason to think they look like a rockband... he looks as if he is about to smash his guitar^^
*rubs hands* thats something to look forward in the evening then^^
i am still musing as how the second mug should look like but i am for the moment at a loss of ideas...
Heres mugs. I have to confess that I found a few bare patches on em so I added more glaze and put them back in the kiln - hopefully this will work... Results tomorrow evening
Nice bunch of kinky goat-peeps too. Like the blue, especially on the hooded guy. Good to see some little conversions in there, now how about starting to drill some barrels out
Have drilled the barrels on the bold pistols, bold pistols? I mean bolt; a bold pistol would give your clothes a whiter than white clean with a fresh fragrance, while simultaneously vaporizing your innards.
They are indeed very very red and shiny! I was quite suprised - its the first time I've done red with this glaze - I might add just a splash of black next time just to tone it down a touch.
seems like today is pun day^^ i thought a bold gun would be something like a very daring gun...boldly go where no gun has shot before...
would be nice to see a daylight pic of the mug tho^^
if the necromantic flamesword is indeed a flamesword then i suggest a bit of yellow drybrush on the inside edges again...or is it rather a molten lava sword?^^ then the look would fit^^
lol....this would be then an insider... i try but a lifetime of telly cant be injected in a hurry to a foreign weasle^^
oki ...never thought the process in the kiln would take so long... that alone must be a very big drain of money in the whole making with those enegry cost...
?? a weeping bloody sword? so the sword weeps after its drawn blood of a victim...god that must be pretty unnerving for a fighter...:" quite the sobbing you whiner of a poker... it was only a fleshwound you caused..."
Its the comeback tour.. I wanna see the beastmen in concert! with a warmup by the noise marines! fantastic groupies shot as well okay no more.. Your Neck romancer is pretty ancient and scary looking, he has some nice details , like the bone runes on his hat.
Now not only are you back in the saddle , your hearding the the buffalo's, up the creek.
Thanks all, I am really pleased with this old geezer too. The paint job worked well - Adding random colours starting with the largest area and just thinking what would go with that one until I get to the little details. First try at osl - easier than it looks.
The auction is going well. People like the models.
I am a bit stumped as to what to paint next. A chaos marine? mabe a chaos squat? or another inquisitor? Or maybe a sanctioned psyker, they are a really cool model.
I probably mange at least 3 a week - taking into account weeks where I do nothing. A while ago I commented that I had masses of free time to paint in - not so anymore; not only is the mug trade booming but I have got myself an allotment with a friend which we are digging and planting in whenever the weather is nice. And work work is dragging its feet on giving me hoiidays. That said I like being busy - it will make me fitter and less lazy.
Funnily enough the little one eyed monster does have big teef, lots of em... Here he is - not finished yet
thats the burning sensation you get when getting too close to the unprotected window...you do have a window close by? if not ask the warden to open the padded doors once in a while to let some fresh unused light in...
orr i wanna hug that monster , and his big gnarly teeth, and i doubt either vik or monkey will ever be allowed out of that asylum anytime soon , so we can all sleep soundly
That's fine, I only watch TV when I'm round friends, and generally don't pay too much attention then, just enough to make sarky comments about whatever's happening, my TV is for films and gaming, and that not as often as it used to be, think I OD'd on tele when I was a teen
LLol - the chap in the wowowee vid has a name tag that reads 'Poon', and I wonder what super bawang is. Is poon a common name out there? No disrespect to Poon of course I'm sure my name sounds silly to him.
TV has gone massivly down hill. In fact considering where it started it must be several miles underground by now. I mostly watch the russian news channel to see which country is going to overthrow its leaders next. I'm hoping its us...
In other news I am building a great wall of sod - (this might be a challenge for vic to translate accurately)
lol , tumbleweed , poontang and a great wall of sod ... its weetys surrealist blog! @ manoknok you should consider getting yourself an xbox and fallout new vegas first.
Build a wall , that is very 80's ( more surrealism )
