First off, Curse officially hates me. The Curse launcher doesn't launch MC for me.
So I download the FtB original launcher. Go through that.
There's something wrong with the Scaffolding texture from Immersive Engineering. and other things. (does anyone know what an "Upwards reference" is?)
Loading up it's just a big list of problems. I'm trying again, to see if it works, but dango. I'm very close to just downloading the mods manually and launching from the regular MC launcher.
I'd heard there are issues with the textures of Immersive Engineering's multi-block structures in the current version of the pack and that an update is on the way to fix them.
I've managed to manually set things up so that I can launch the pack through the default MC launcher!
I'll try the Curse one again after switching its launcher setups, but I'd much prefer to do it this way, I think.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Huh. Maybe I did need to do it through Curse. Bah.
It's seriously not this hard to just do mods, folks! Just let me download them! I can deal with odd directories, just tell me where they need to be!!!!
Automatically Appended Next Post: NOTHING WORKS. ALL IS DARKNESS. THE VOID SHALL CONSUME.
I have updated the first post with instructions for downloading the launcher(s) and pack and connecting to the server. However, I suspect most of you have already figured it out.
The server address is different than before, it is now:
dw20.darkinnit.com
You don't need to specify a port number anymore, but if you have any problems you can try entering the server address as dw20.darkinnit.com:25585
I haven't managed to get the FTB Util starter inventory feature working, but I think you'd rather get playing than wait longer while I figure out an alternate solution.
A dimension for automated mining (e.g. quarries and other world destroyers) is provided and can currently be accessed from the Railcraft villager house (along with a nether portal). Manual mining in the overworld is perfectly fine.
The server will open at 6pm GMT (just under 25mins from now)!
If you still keep getting unknown host, try entering the IP instead of the domain name, but then you must include the port:
148.251.89.150:25585

And....
I went into the nether, lagged out in a portal, and died at the bottom of a lava lake about 1k away from the portal.
Any chance I can get a hand getting my stuff back?
This sounds like an issue that was in Vanilla Minecraft 1.10, the portals wouldn't change your coords immediately on entering the nether, so you'd enter the nether at overworld coords and then it would move you to the correct location in the nether. But sometimes lag or other unexpected delays would mean that you'd actually start taking suffocation/lava/fire damage from the "wrong" coordinates before it moved you, and in worst cases, enough to kill you.
It might be a good idea to switch to EnderIO's teleporters instead of vanilla nether portals when you can, see if they work better.
I'll log on now, thanks for PMing me the coords - that gravestone mod is very useful for helping with this particular issue!
I'm afraid I'm not sure why this is happening to you. The server isn't kicking you, it just reports that you disconnected:
Check your minecraft and/or forge logs for any indications as to what might be causing it.
Also check you have allocated enough RAM as these 1.10 packs now recommend at least 4GB for optimal performance. This can be set in the Curse or FTB Launcher options.
So what's a good chunk loader to use now? I went to the mining world and you can't claim chunks to load them that way. I'd like to use something that keeps the chunks loaded even when no one is on the server type deal.
People on the ForgeCraft server seemed to mostly use ExtraUtilities Chunk Loading ward.
It's annoying to make though, as you need a Villager that's signed a contract... and it's hard to find villagers that are willing to do that.
The other options are from OpenComputers (no idea how it works) or IC2.
All 3 chunk loading options require power of some kind. The IC2 chunk loader is probably the cheapest and simplest option, though it will require more power than the others.
Been thinking about revisiting this game. I played it a couple years ago and enjoyed the little bit I experienced.... which mostly amounted to me trapping myself inside a room of wood with zombies.
This server... is it super advanced I guess? I guess probably I should stick to just the vanilla game for a bit till I learn more of the intricacies?
Has anyone else toyed around with Actually Additions empowerer?
I've built a test setup in creative mode using mod parts that i have access to on the server to convert the output of my canola farm to empowered canola oil and the empowerer just kills my fps. It goes down to single digits every time it fires its four particle beams which can happen quite often during the startup of the machine.
I had to set the config option "less particles" to true in the Actually Additions config file so i can continue playing near the empowerer.
Are there other options? How far away (perhaps underground) do i need to place the machine so particle effects are not calculated / rendered?
@messhallcook:
We just started on a fresh map with new mods. Might be a good opportunity for new players as well.
messhallcook wrote: This server... is it super advanced I guess? I guess probably I should stick to just the vanilla game for a bit till I learn more of the intricacies?
Is there a way just to spectate?
Like Minx said, this server's only been up a few days with a fresh modpack, so everyone's still learning. If you're worried about the complexity, Direwolf20's YouTube currently has him playing through this modpack from scratch, which can help with getting a solid foundation to start on. There's a link to his YT in the opening post, but he hasn't started a playlist yet, so here's one I quickly compiled of his videos on this modpack up to now: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc4c3Mf-h7y2tfSJkWoRVfb2I0gjQU3Sq
He'll probably upload a new one every 3 days or so, so there's a bit of a wait between them, but the 6 he's got out now are more than enough to get you started, if you're interested. I'm sure someone more well-versed in the pack and its contents would be able to give you a few pointers, too--I'd do it myself, but I don't actually know anything about the pack, so I'd just be repeating the stuff I learn from DW20's videos.
If you really do just want to spectate, you can still log in and just stalk darkinnit or someone; it's as much a social server as it is functional.
YEah, just log in and explore. Just be sure to not mess with levers and switches, and to leave doors shut and not to let things get blown up by creepers.
Did anybody else have any of the issues I was having? I'm trying a re-download, hopefully the scaffolding thing has been fixed, but now it's all "Couldn't find mcjson1.10.2" but seems like it's still working.
Anvildude wrote: Did anybody else have any of the issues I was having? I'm trying a re-download, hopefully the scaffolding thing has been fixed, but now it's all "Couldn't find mcjson1.10.2" but seems like it's still working.
This is all so aggravating.
Yep that happened to me initially too. Got to Curse Settings -> Minecraft and change the laucher type it is using (and while you're at it assign at least 4GB of RAM).
That should fix it. If it doesn't, try updating Java: you might have an out of date version that is interfering with the whole process.
I was about to say- I've found, like, 5, just from incidental earthmoving.
Also, Prismarine is a very nice material for tools- Aquadynamic is very, very handy. However, because I'm not around a Water temple, I'm having to keep fighting Guardians. And those guys are annoying.
Built my nether portal, stepped through, game disconnected me from the server because ???, I reconnect inside a wall and instantly suffocate.
No problem, I go back through the portal but the portal it created for me in the nether is 1500m away from where my death waypoint was created.
The portal it created is at -x46, -z200/201, but according the waypoint, somehow I died at -x314 -z1608.
I can't remember much of what I lost except a flint pickaxe--eh--a backpack, and a brand new steel-silver-bronze rapier I'd just made. I can make another sword--thankfully I made more steel than I needed at SirRalphy's--but could I please get a new backpack? I haven't found a good source of leather yet, and I couldn't find any cows within a good distance of me when i had to make the first. I think tikka had to give me the leather for it in the end.
EDIT: Forgot the death parchment gives you an inv. list. Could probably do with getting the 23 coal back as well, please, and maybe the bucket if you were feeling generous, but I've enough iron to replace that.
Anvildude wrote: You realize that we've got a Gravestones mod. It's as easy as breaking the grave and picking up your stuff.
Could you be a little more patronising, please?
Yes I do realise that. I also realise that I was dumped into the middle of the nether 1500m away, inside a wall; I'm not sure if there will even be a gravestone due to that, or if it is generated, where it could possibly be. If it's generated simply at the closest available space, that could be literally anywhere--inside a lava pool, on top of bedrock outside the world, on the other end of a several-chunk large wall of netherrack I'd have to mine completely to find. I was also encouraged to ask dark by people on the server at the time--people who likely also realise these things.
EDIT: Looks like it's probably only accessible to dark anyway:
I am not sure if the color of a slime island denotes the color of the slimes on it but I did find a floating purple slime island East of my village quite a ways. I can post the coords when I get home if anyone wants to investigate.

Yes as mentioned before, this is a bug with the nether portals in this version. I've cleared some space at the location where you died, so you shouldn't take damage when using the portal in future.
Your grave did appear on the roof of the nether, as you suspected:
Spoiler:
I've put the contents of your grave in a chest just inside your place.
darkinnit wrote: I have updated the server to version 1.1.4 of the modpack, please update your clients.
Yay, more power (RF) generation options (all the Extra Utilities generators including the rainbow generator and Extreme Reactors) and a boatload of bug fixes for many other mods.
Thank you.
I am planning on joining, if someone is planning on making the discord channel set up as soon as possible. Its very help for minecraft I've learned.
I was working on trying to figure out how to build the best types of things with tinkers, I wouldn't mind when I log in someone helping me get started. I was planning on doing a lot more magic than just flat out industrial. As botantia, blood magic and draconic evolution interest me quite a bit. (and once thaumcraft comes out.... My my. I'll jump on that. lol)
Also is this the current Direwolf pack that came out?
(Also how do you update the Direwolf Pack Client Side?)
Man, I can't wait for Thaumcraft to be back again. I'm really, really missing it.
Part of that is just that I don't know how any of the Tech-based farms work (and Botania is totally a Tech mod, just with magic trappings). I want my Golems, darn it!
Also, with Tinkers- everything's in the book, which is nice, but the materials are a lot more important- Manylllylyyllyn isn't the be-all-end-all anymore. Prismarine has replaced Cactus as the go-to weapon material (with Jagged and all-only Manamana and Steel are comparable) and wood gives a minor self-repair. Stone isn't quite as nice, no stonebound, but still alright.

Cobalt is the best for tops of mining gear Ardite is great for handles (because it has the ability to eat stone)
Bone is the best for weapons, and Manyllylyyllyn is actually one of the best blades. Though I still use paper on everything
Also if anyone is willing to help I would really like to set up a tinkers station for myself. I would probably repay you with some of the computer craft I know lol

My sword is a Manylynn blade w/max quartz, a silver guard, and netherrack handle. I'm rolling into the 15.59 damage, before it being undead or not. I one shot skeletons and zombies.
I've got myself a Hammer with a Prismarine head, 2 Silver plates, and an Electrum handle (a decent handle material, and it has a neat 'charge up, ZZAAAP' mechanic)- put one whole modifier of Grave Dust on it, and with the Jagged ability from the Pris, I'm working on upwards of 10 damage against undead, plus the zzap from the Electrum charge. It's pretty awesome. I called it "Bane of Evil".
Chisel'n'Bits is amazing, though. I'm considering setting up a store where I sell sculptures and furniture and stuff, and maybe take commissions- would folks be up for that? I'd probably ask diamonds or other gems for stuff, or maybe just rare or interesting materials. (That's where EE would be nice- you could have direct equivalents for prices). I feel like someone willing to create a full Ore Tripling store could probably do some good business as well.
Pam's HarvestCraft is part of the new Direwolf20 version 1.2: FTB-changelog. Tinker's bows and crossbows, too. Loads of bugfixes are in as well.
Since it's holiday season in some parts of the world i reckon it might be a while before darkinnit updates his server though.

Wait really?!?!?!?
Cool, thats actually kind of awesome. I've been wanting to make some really powerful items!
I wish tinkers had armor that would be interesting.
Also how do we get heart containers
I am trying to start blood magic, anyone have the list of things you have to do? I've been trying to find a tutorial and all of them are terrible.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also demon metal?
I like the crossbows. I think that would be an interesting item in vanilla- just craft a bow with 2 planks, have a basic xbow that would let you draw after firing.
Anvildude wrote: I like the crossbows. I think that would be an interesting item in vanilla- just craft a bow with 2 planks, have a basic xbow that would let you draw after firing.
Yeah, I can't wait
Also guys I need some help with blood magic. Ugh its a chore.
I have a few questions to quicken it.
:How can I automate the process of getting blood tiles?
How good is the end game?
What types of things would everyone recommend in terms of building a good infrastructure for blood magic?
I've been trying to figure out what to do with blood magic but it isn't as simplistic as botantia or thaumcraft.
The tiles generally require filtering and/or recursion, but you should actually be able to use vanilla to do so- the altar has basic input-output mechanics. The big thing there is making sure you have enough blood points in it, which means using a mob spawner and the automated sacrifice ritual. Aside from that, it's just a matter of having the right tier of altar, and putting in stone or the lower tier slates/tiles.
I'd be happy to work with you on the Blood Magic, but I find that I can't just make the altar- the shape of it demands that I construct a suitable temple around it first.
The end-game... In a way, it doesn't have one. Part of it is because it has a Spellcrafting mechanic (or at least, it used to) that means you can do whatever you want once you have enough blood power. It's also got powerful terraforming stuff in the endgame, I think. And, of course, there's the Demon Invasion thing.
I mean, there's a lot of progression, but it's not a Tech mod- you're not "Progressing in order to get the tech to progress"- everything you do has its own use.
And the spellcrafting at the end is interesting, in that you place blocks in order to create the spells- it's sort of a 'Command-blocks lite' system. If it's still in place- I know they've changed some things with, like, strange essence gathering stuff, the demon souls and the like- and that ties into certain automation systems, item systems, and also a potion brewing system that allows you to create custome, multi-effect, multi-use Flasks.

Ok, after looking to update the server I've realised that the 1.2 versions of the pack are still currently only Beta versions and not yet marked as "Release". I'll update the server when the FTB team say they're good to go. This usually helps to avoid several small updates while they tweak things before the final stable release (i.e. that's why we jumped straight from 1.0.0 to 1.1.4).

Drat, that stinks!
I'm trying to make a mob grinder but for some reason it only spawns the mobs when I am nearby anyway to trick it into think the player is nearby?
Hey I was wondering if anyone has an answer for me why the farming station farms the trees really well, but the ender pearls it doesn't actually farm them for some reason.
for blood magic, if I have a drum full of blood, is there a way to input it into the altar? I tried the enderio fluid conduits and the extra utilities node & pipes and they didn't work. I hooked them up to all sides and the bottom. Also I have a tier 3 altar with just blank runes.
Anvildude wrote: Chiseled blocks don't cause lag, do they? 'cause my base is nearish spawn (so may be loaded) and has a lot of chiseling going on.
They do cause lag the more you use them. The more complicated they are the more calculations the computer has to do.
It can get pretty bad when it comes to chiseled blocks if you use too much of it.

Drop an Archmage orb or an orb into it and it will suck up the blood.
Blood cannot be placed into other containers, unless it is for blood magic.
Blood Magic is one of the few that is the hardest to automate.
Use chickens. Infinite automated chicken farms (including ones that provide infinite automated cooked chicken along with eggs and feathers) are a thing even in vanilla, it's probably even easier to do in FtB.
sirlynchmob wrote: hey dark, I just got the pop up for the new version, did you up date the server?
Not yet, still on old version. This version is quite buggy.
I've found four crashes by accident on my client side alone in the past day. lol
But the thing I keep having problems with is I try to interact with an object and I get booted off.
Also I am trying to run a quantum quarry and I am trying to cut down on the amount of machines I am running at once
Well I am thinking of a better way to increase my energy production and keep up with
A quantum Miner / 2K RF per a tick 2 Powered Spawners (1 Blaze, 1 Skeleton, 1 Mob Grinder) 30K - 20k RF per a tick 2 Alloy Smelters / 120 rf per a tick 2 Farming Stations / 250 rf per a tick 8 Farmers / 500 rf per a tick 1 Crusher / 10 rf per a tick 1 Sag Mill / 100 rf per a tick 1 refined storage machine (entire network) / 100 rf per a tick
Power :
2 Magma Generators (All feed into a lava machine to try and create an infinite magma generator using the lava factory. Trying to find a way to make it more efficent, this was suppose to be the replacement) 4 Oil Generators (use canola from canola farms (1 farming station and 2 farmers contribute to it to try and help to produce more canola oil that is then converted into oil, this might in the future be converted to crystalized oil.)) 65 Coal Generators (Powered entirely by red coal. Red coal lasts the longest out of any coal, that an it is realitively cheap to produce, due to the low power requirements to produce charcoal, I have tried to make a system that not only replaces the coal inside of the generators but all the generators feed into the main power network, this produces actually a very small amount of energy compared to what I thought it would, but it does last forever and is the easiest energy to produce)
I think I might need to break the coal generators and create a more stable energy source that can 1. meet the power requirements of my entire machine network. Which is 50k energy per tick if all my machines are turned on. And also to create a new system of energy which could be using magma + oil generation to create a suitable amount of energy that not only produces excess amount of energy just in case but also stops producing energy if it hits the 90% mark in energy (So an energy controller)
Anyone have any ideas ?
I do not want my base to cause drops in frame rate and to lag the server by accident!
The server seems fine no lag as far as I can see. Obviously I can't control your own internet speeds or distances from the server (in Germany). The same goes for your CPU, Memory etc.
Chisel blocks will only really cause render lag (basically how good is your CPU and graphics card?) if used excessively.
They are counted as tile entities, so extreme excessive use could eventually lag the server, but server lag is more likely to come from overflowing item transport systems dropping excess items on the ground or overfilled mob farms.
I'll update the server to the newer modpack version a little later in the week, perhaps tomorrow if I have time.
Does Curse -really- have to create a new profile every single update?? If so, its really starting to get on my nerves... Have to update all my settings every single time as well as losing all of my maps...
I think the leaves not disappearing over time is a visual thing as they were gone when i relogged. The grass i am not sure about but they are both annoying. The server was really laggy last night so i am not quite sure what is a bug and what is the server acting up.
Is there a place to see everything that was done for the update? I can't seem to find it on the FTB forums.
it seems they fixed most of the draconic evolution bugs including the chaos guardian. he looks amazing and still kills you even if you're in creative mode.

Heh yeah I did see that. It's definitely a much needed mod if other mods require and/or enable farming of those bosses.
However, I prefer to wait until they say the pack is stable. It can take time for them to spot any issues and it's usually better to wait rather than suffer some bad incompatibility. It looks like they might be close to marking the next update stable though (the hotfixes are getting smaller )
I kept mine in a ae system with a export bus into the endogenic generators. every time I log in thousands of pearls just vanish. I'm not sure if this bug is caused by the generators or the storage system. it's hard to pin down, but I'm leaning towards AE2 as the export bus should not be able to feed that many pearls at once, especially when there's no upgrades to the bus.
I moved my draconic infusion setup to spawn with a passive power generator. there should be enough power for 1 upgrade, then it will take a while to recharge. If you're going to do a lot of upgrading there's also a dimensional tranciever so you can tie into your power. Once the chaos guardian has been fixed I suggest upgrading this setup first as you'll need to kill two just to upgrade the infusers to do the chaos level upgrades.
It should be easy to find, it's quite the ugly building, next to the chicken cooker.
It's currently in the process of rendering all the things, so depending on how soon after this post's time you click the link, it may or may not show everything yet.
I was playing Foolcraft, but the lack of certain mods was getting frustrating.
For example:
Foolcraft is supposed to be all about the look, right? BUT!
It does not have Immersive Engineering for its tech mod (instead it has Thermal Expansion- and since all tech mods are basically THE EXACT SAME mechanically these days, why not go with the one with cool looking multiblocks instead of the 'machine in a block' TE?)
It does not have Bibliocraft (WHY!?)
It has ONE (1!) magic mod, and that's Botania.
And it had this stupid Mob Chunks thing going on, which I had to disable because it served NO purpose.
About the only things I liked about the pack that I wouldn't've just added in myself were Minecraft Comes Alive (which is pretty neat, actually) and Embers (which is a brand-new-ish Dwarfy magitech mod, which looks awesome but doesn't have an info book).
And for some reason, Creeper-blasted blocks go semi-intangible, leaving invisible, un-destroyable blocks everywhere.
I think I'm gonna use the ideas of that pack, and just add them into my own singleplayer for 1.10.2 modded.
I've had work and other work to keep me occupied, so no MC for me...
I know that Pix and mack sorta lost interest in the modpack. Not nearly as deep as the older packs. and there are a lot of points where we all wonder "Aw, why didnt they have x mod instead?"
I've actually just journeyed forth to find a new base as well. My initial thing was just... taking too much time, for what was essentially a geometry game. So I went straight North through the ocean, and found a bunch of fjords to call my home. Highlands biomes are actually pretty cool. So I'm gonna make my Dwarven Stronghold there, with plenty of chisel'd goodness.
First, for Darkinnit. Can you teach me how to run my own server? I'd like to have a little thing for recording, and not use the entire Dakka Dakka Modded Server for that (plus I might want to do other modpacks).
Second, for anyone here who plays Modded Minecraft. Would you be interested in doing a Let's Play of the DW20 pack or Forever Stranded with me? Assuming I'm able to host the server, pending Darkinnit's masterful tutorial.
I stopped playing because no one was ever on, and I'd rather not deal with the lag spikes to effectively play single player. If others hop on I'll come back around more.
I stopped because I don't understand how 90% of the mods work, so I had to watch Direwolf's series to understand them, which led to me realising I wasn't enjoying playing because I was essentially just copying Dire, and I might as well just watch his videos.
That and I think Minecraft's lustre in general has long worn off for me.

I've been playing more lately, I spent a hour finding and killing a chaos guardian, then the next 6 waiting for my capacitors to recharge :/ and realizing I need a wither killing machine because I'm going through them like candy.

I'd make a good side kick though and would be interested in trying it out. or even my boy would probably help over the summer, kids help ratings
I'd be willing to do a modded series. I've got my Dwarfcraft series going on right now, but it's getting lonely. I'd love to do a survival pack, personally.

Forever Stranded sound fun? It's heavy on the Survival aspect.
lite has quantom storage tanks and solar panels that produce all the RF you could need, and prebuilt decorations. storage and energy are two problems I'm having in direwolf, and I'm hunting chaos guardians so I can blow up 1/2 the server, eeerrrrr I mean make me some power
I've pondered hosting a skyfactory game lately. Basically Skyblock but with mods that make it more interesting. A lot of my friends prefer minecraft for exploration though, so never got any volunteers.
So just... good luck setting up a server and keeping it populated. It can be pretty hard.

It depends what your requirements are and also your budget.
From what you've said here, it looks like you just want a 1-2 player server?
So then it's a question of how you want to run the server and where?
Running it locally from your own house will be cheapest, but means you have to give your own IP address to anyone wanting to join the server and ensure you're setting up port forwarding correctly.
If you're willing to pay a monthly fee for an always on server, and you're only looking to have a few people, then something like Creeperhost is probably easiest and best value for money. Especially as they'll set up the modpack and everything for you, so you can just get on with playing the game.
If you're dead set on running it locally from your own house, then the launcher has the option to download the server and FTB kindly provide some quickstart "ServerStart" scripts to get it up and running. Port forwarding to open access to people on the internet is exactly the same as for vanilla.
I don't want to write a massive wall of text, so let me know if there's something more specific you need to know.
JNAProductions wrote: Okay, where on the newer FTB launcher do I find the ServerStart script?
And how do I handle port forwarding?
Treat me as if I know nothing. I might have somewhat managed to set up a vanilla server before, but that was a while ago.
Much appreciated, by the way!
Hmm, from what I can google about the new Curse launcher, there isn't yet a server download option (unless I'm mistaken). But instead, you can find them on their site:
Where you see "Overview Files Relations", click "Files"
Choose the version of the modpack you want. Ones with an R icon are the latest stable Release. Any releases above that are newer but not considered stable yet. Click the "+1 Server pack" label
This takes you to an "Additional Files" section of the page where you can download the server files
Once downloaded, extract these to a folder where you want to store the server and world
You should see some ServerStart files. If you're on Windows, choose ServerStart.bat
That should get a server started which you can connect to from your game. Assuming you are running it on the same machine, you simply start the modpack, choose multiplayer, add a server and type 'localhost' as the address. You might also want to adjust the server.properties, ops.json and whitelist.json files to control who can connect to your server. Particularly to set whitelist to true.
Now to allow others outside to connect to your server, you'd need to forward the port from your router to your computer running the server. This can vary by router, and almost everyone has a different one, so there's some router specific instructions available at:
https://portforward.com Also see the wiki for some more steps:
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_server#Port_forwarding
Once you have the port forwarded to your computer, find out what your external IP is by simply Googling What Is My IP and give that IP to whoever you want to join the server (make sure to whitelist them in Minecraft - '/whitelist add username' - if you want them to be able to connect).
Check that the version of the server files you downloaded and the version of the modpack you're launching to play on it are exactly the same. Sometimes if there's a mismatch it just reports the server as "vanilla" even though it's not.
If that's not the case, check the mods folder to see if the mods files are all there. If they're not, check that you downloaded the correct server files zip package.
If that's still not the case, check the logs folder and read the last few lines of the "latest.log" and "fml-startup" log to see if they give any indication of any other problem.
EDIT: Actually, check the eula.txt file first and make sure to change it from false to true. It's Mojang's way of saying you should read their eula (tl;dr don't try to charge people money for non-cosmetic items on your server ).
Hey dark, I am about to set up a draconic reactor and figured a void world might be the best place for it. But I'm not sure how to set up a void world and what options you can use on the server. I usually just randomly try stuff til I find something I like and I know you changed the settings
Is there a dimension planner out there? I looked and couldn't find one. I want to make sure I get the eternal day and no weather options, and maybe try some coloring.
can I set the mobs to endermen? and make a nice endermen farm there? maybe add in some effects?
If you could post a list of an approved void world for us to copy, that would be awesome as well

Yep, I pitty anyone who lives next to me first the lag, then the boom
but a nice draconic reactor that doesn't go boom will make 550k RF/t
seeing how it will be the first I've ever built, the safe bet is on boom

Blimey. Tinkered with mods n never needed that level of power!
I had like a 20 million RF power reserve with ender gens, lava and a slow charge system burning charcoal all the time for backup.
Even then no matter what I never drained my power reserve below 50%
Not sure what machines need that level of power!
My main ring conduit for base had a 2.5k max RF capacity!
Using that much power! Lol!
try some draconic infusion, to make 1 of 9 chaos level injectors took 880 million rf, and you need 10 of them. not to mention all the other infusing for the armor, weapons, upgrading and recharging.
I have the AE storage network, spawners, the 3 quantum quarries (2k rf/t min), the machines to process the ores, and potentially a void dimension here shortly. my 40k extreme reactor, and 3 endergenic generator systems can't keep up with it all, so I have to keep turning machines on and off to work on projects.
so I'm going for overkill and solving all my RF issues in one mighty destructive machine

I barely know much more than the basics with RFTools. I've got the server enforcing that only void worlds can be made and you're also limited to two dimensions each (I think you can delete your own dimensions too if you don't like how it turned out).
The RFTools wiki has some example dimensions, including a void dimension, but I'm sure there's plenty of others out there on that there internet who have their own imlementations.

well Batman, tthat is indeed lag inducing power requirements.
most complex i used was a multi block nuke reactor, and that was nothing like that output.
I'm at the point where I need to figure out what mid-tier power generation I'm going to use. I'm going to crank out a couple of water wheels for free RF, and that will hold me for now, but there no such thing as overkill with power.
Also going to start a mob farm once I get my power needs handled.
I have a small ender lily patch, so once that starts producing full time I'll have ender generation. Lava is almost right out. Between the lack of good lava generators, and no chunk loaders to transport from the Nether, its way too much work for little payoff. If I can get enough GF to power a resonator, I can make red coal, and problem solved. Or if I can get a spawner working, I can use nutrient distillation from Enderio. I have options, its a matter of which one comes across as the easiest at the moment.

and then you crashed the server 3 times
you can use a lava factory to generate lava, the more rf you can give it the faster you get lava, but they're cheap and easy to make and you can pump the lava right into drums.
if you have a village nearby the chunk wards work nicely, or you can claim & chunk load the nether chunks with the lava. dimensional transceivers to send it the energy and send the lava back to your base.
I got my reactor working and it didn't blow up it even survived the first server reset Maybe I should start a power company, I'll set up transceivers for customers now what's a good currency for the server?
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh and if we want to do something like eternal day, or night, or stormy, let me know and I can set that up now
I blame you for letting me borrow your amazeballs armor . I probably loaded new chunks way to quickly. I'll see about getting that back to you when I get home tonight.
I've been testing them out the last couple of days and they don't load til someone visits the chunks to load them first and get them started. I've claimed chunks and used it to chunk load some areas, then I even put a chunk loading ward in the chunk I want loaded. Neither will load with the server, and if I log in in a different area they still don't load.
am I missing something? will the chunk loader from IC2 work? is there a way to load chunk with the server so I can move into a void dimension and not have to worry about my reactor in the real world and running out of power?
If I can't load the chunks reliably then there could be a draconic reactor built under spawn, as long as no one plays with it, it shouldn't explode
No, because Ralphy would need to access it from time to time for maintenance. I suggested IC2 Reinforced stone and doors for it, as that should contain a blast. Another thing is he could seal the entrance, and use a teleportation device to get in and out of the area, that way it looks like natural landscape, and less likely to be disturbed.

That might contain some blast energy, layer it a few thick maybe for extra reinforcement and armour.
Yeah, can always hide it below ground or a larger hillside etc.
Also compressed stone on some mods at highest level has a consistenty to wistand wither attacks and blasts.
So there's a few materials that have some heavy duty blast and assault resistance that could be layered into a nice solid composite armour capable of taking mob attack up to a wither.
A remote power module, can mean no weak point for the wire lines or security.
Anyway, no wires I know can handle the output of the draconic reactor. Max maybe 10k RF a tick output handling.
Nothing like the 550k or higher capacity. Nothing else could handle that degree of power.
a crystabalized flux duct is infinite RF and the draconic power crystals are over 1 million for a basic one.
I then beam the power into a bank of 30 capacitors, then send off the power through dimensional tranceivers in 40k chunks to various machines.
if you use the end portal at my place you can see the machine setups and I would condense it and put it under the draconic infusion room at spawn and then power that as well.

I'm not on the FTB.
I'm on regular, I admit I'm more a middling amateur engineer when it comes to such things. I can build jet packs RF tools and such. Nothing quite on your level of design.
I know how to build solid things, rig up basic RF, and the basic auto furnaces, enginizers, power cells and rig up a solid wiring network.
I know the theory of things but I cannot put them into practical design however on high end tech.

that's a good start, I muddle through most of the mods, and use youtube a lot
why reinvent the wheel and figure it out yourself, when it's already been min/maxed and a step by step guide is already made

Aye. My attempts with nuclear reactor design where less than successful at first!
A big reactor, well if you build the cooling system on nuclear power things kinda get exploded and erase alot of things..
I left that to youtube afterwards.
Seems you should not forget coolent...
So SirRalphy wanted some Mooshrooms and Ocelots, but was having difficulty finding the correct biomes.
Turns out Biomes o Plenty does have a tool for searching for biomes. If you get one of each BoP gem from around the overworld, plus some resources from the end, you can search for the biome you need using the Biome Finder.
It even works (which is not always guaranteed in these modpacks):
I'm not going to just say where the island is, but I'll give a clue for those who don't want to go to the trouble of making a biome finder:
Spoiler:
Now, finding Ocelots was a bit more tricky:
In fact searching for Jungles, and the various Biomes o Plenty Rainforest variants in a 40000 block radius turned up zero results!
As I think travelling more than 40000 blocks for an ocelot (and then having to capture it and ensure it survives) is a bit extreme, I've set up a trading station at spawn instead:
It costs one emerald block for an ocelot spawn egg.
sirlynchmob wrote: Great clue, and thanks for the spawn machine. I'm one step closer to moving to my own peaceful world
Seems my PC not up to FTB server. But I swear some older mods had things like a golden lqssoo that could capture a passive mod, one use trap nets that act lime spawn eggs etc.
Not every animal needs to be hauled in walking mode id those mods in.
40,000 blocks? Damn, no wonder it was impossible to find vines.
Also, apparently Curse has become Twitch. I hate this.

sirlynchmob wrote: Are there any mods that will remove water sources? Like draining a large lake, or in my case the inside of a boat
Most of them
IC2 has a pump
RFtools has a pump module
Extra Utilities 2 has a pump upgrade
and Ranged Pumps, well that mod sounds like it might do what it says on the tin...
This is not an exclusive list. I'm sure Blood Magic and Botania also have some over complicated means of doing it too
Enderthermic pumps work but they replace it water with stone.
So if it works on area you might fill area about ship with stone if on too long.
They not cheapest pumps but seen fairly fast and can dump water into barrels with tubes.

I'll look into that when I can log back in, something weird is going on with my account right now. I can deal with stone, it's in the middle of a large ocean so anything outside would fill back in. Plus I could silk touch the stone to use for the hull. Thanks for suggesting them.

Might take a avit of investment to build one, but there reusable, use RF power so that's pretty universal.
Also do same for lava which can be handy to have....
I was building my draconic reactor under spawn, and due to a unforeseen accident it blew up a large area around spawn. most of the damage was under ground. I've already notified dark.
I had it working, it was running smoothly, then an accident with a aoe pick nicked the side of the energy storage ball and turned it off. with nowhere for the reactor to send energy and even with the fail safe activated it jumped right into a critical condition
my apologies to all.

no symbols, just a proper us flag. I'm not sure on the dimensions. but if you could make either size flag so it fits properly on my ship, that would be great. I can make you a dialing device so you can go from you place to my ship if you'd like so you can get a feel for the size. speaking of size, apologies for the huge pic I'm posting

we have the concrete blocks, and the colored ring that can make cobble into any color.
the smaller flag is fine and can be flat & straight, but if you could make it look like it's blowing in the wind, that would be really awesome.
Yo Ralphy, how do you set up these stupid teleporter things?
Also, I'm... halfway? done with your flag, if you wanna see its current progress. I'm gonna do the final carving in situ for logistical reasons soonish, so you might see it in progress there anyways.

just place them next to each other and feed them RF, I usually put the dialing device between the transmitter & receiver.
then name your devices and dial up where you want to go.
You're providing free power and gave me teleporty things. That's good enough, but if you really want, I'd love access to metal blocks for decoration purposes. Or any interesting looking blocks that I could use for decoration.

Actually, scratch that. You know what would be good payment? An Angel ring. I can provide my own grid power once I finish up your flag, but an Angel Ring and GP to use it while sculpting your flag. I've got the blocks in place, but now I want to get it all flowy and thin, and that's difficult to do without flight.

That looks really epic.
It's in the chest I put in your place. That's still more transportation cost to me though.
Hope you like your flag, Ralphy. Hey, I was wondering, think you could turn off your Auto-Day machine? I'm wanting to get into Blood Magic, and I need mobs to hunt with snares.

I love it, that's really impressive. Now it feels like home.
I turned off the manipulator, nighttime once again befalls the land. I should probably move it to spawn with a on/off switch when you're done.
Anvildude wrote: Why don't you use Flat Colored Blocks and clad your ship? Get rid of that texture that the stone gives, and get exact to the paint color.
I had considered that, but I like having my stuff show up on the map, it doesn't even render the concrete blocks. without the stone it would just be some weird mess in the ocean. see for yourself, it's at 2450 2140

I still have more stuff to do topside, but I'm doing the inside first so I can poke holes where needed, and get the layout to match the "spirit" of the ship with all the cool toys the mod pack offers.
I gotta say I'm digging the fact that on the map its facing down two pirate ships.
I haven't been on due to very bad internet (Comcast blacklisted the house I just bought, had to settle for Hi-speed until I jumped through hoops) I should be getting proper connection tomorrow, so I'll be back!
Yeah, still not back, but managed to download the unstable 1.12 at a family members house. I would love to play the Lost Cities setting with you guys sometime.

I've been trying and failing hard at "sink into madness" I've died so many times, it's embarrassing, you can't even chop down that tree they start you with in safety, 2 different mobs can spawn and try to kill you.
They have creepers, with laser, riding robotic t-rex's, and they don't de spawn.
So gang, the 1.12 modpack for Direwolf dropped today. Take a gander at the list, and maybe we can see about upgrading in the near future?

He made no indication of it being added in the future either. Normally if you watch the Youtube series, he will note missing packs and if they will be added later. I think Astral Sorcery is meant to take its place.
My only personal thing is that there is no EnderIO, but life goes on.
Astral Sorcery is neat, for sure, but I'm just... really annoyed at the lack of interesting magic mods recently. Embers is more of a shiny tech mod, Botania's the same... Blood magic is very thematic, but it takes ages to get to the point where you're actually, you know, doing magical stuff.
Where's the Thaumcraft equivalent, full of cool items and strange automotons? The spellmaker like Ars Magicka? Heck, I'd settle for a good necromancy style mod at this point.
This pack is lacking a bit in the magic department, I'll give you that. I've been thinking about a Lost Cities multiplayer, but that would be a poor choice for a primary server.
Eh. Decocraft, much like Chisel, is essentially replaced by Chisel'n'bitz, in a way. Yes, they both add unique things (specific stones, pattern, pre-made items) but you can bitz your way to similar outcomes in most cases.

Yes you can make all that stuff with chiels, BUT I'd rather the stuff come pre assembled A lot less time and effort for the same result.
The only issue there is that a bunch of the more popular mods are being done for each version, so I'll bet its going to be alot longer than that. I though Thaumcraft was skipping 1.10, apparently Azanor is still working on 1.10. This is just one example I could find. I'm fine staying where we are due to the new Direpack being a bit light. Maybe we can wait for a few more packs to come out and talk about it again.
I'm happy to stay on the current version for now. Less work for me!
I've actually been playing a bit recently again. Built a Wither battle room, beat the Wither, built a Gaia Guardian battle arena, beat the first one of those. Now I can fly, woo
Of course. I usually have world downloads available after any world reset. But for now I'm happy to stick on this pack until there's more interest in a new pack.
I'm in the process of making a pack, it mostly revolves around the Lord of the Rings Mod (which is awesomesauce), but I kept the overworld, and added some magic and tech mods to it. Only real downside is that it is 1.7.10.
I know, it took me about 10 hours of walking to find my current island chain that I call home. Not keen on repeating that journey, but a fresh start would be nice. Every time I log on, I'm alone, kinda killed my interest a bit.
Same here. A bit, anyways. Part of it is also that I got used to not having 20 bajillion mods going on at once- I don't need 15 different ways of generating energy and transporting items.
As long as the rest of said pack doesn't suck, I'm down.
I find the infinity packs to be better than direwolfs, they have all the mods from direwolf and a few more. The ones direwolf leaves out are usually the ones that are just really helpful, like the version we're using was missing most of the RF generating packs so infinity would have helped a lot more with getting started with power and mid power solutions.
Has anyone looked at the new Revelations pack? Its still magic-light (all of 1.12 still is), but it has a good amount of cosmetic and utilitarian mods. If it gets Thaumcraft, that's my vote.

I'd rather wait for a 1.13 pack with it, because turtles & dolphins and coral reefs, oh my
For those who want to try it now, all the mods 1.10.2 added it in.
I pop on from time to time to make sure I haven't cause another massive explosion I'm playing around with the new thaumcraft stuff right now trying to figure out the new mechanics.
Small update. While the Direwolf pack has had no major updates, apparently the Revelation pack has had a jump in the amount of mods, including Thaumcraft.

I for one am down to ditch the Direpack and move here. It's going to be a long while before mods are ready for 1.13.
EDIT: Added spoiler tags.
I stand corrected, the Direwolf pack JUST added Thuamcraft.
I'd like to put in a request to update the server to the current version. I don't believe it would require a wipe, but we would have to explore further out to unloaded chunks for the new items, like Vis crystals.
We never updated to the current Direwolf pack, we're still on the Minecraft 1.10 Direwolf pack, so to move to the Minecraft 1.12 Direwolf pack would require a world reset.
Looking at the previous page it looks like those against moving to 1.12 were waiting on Thaumcraft, so maybe now is time to jump ship?
Unfortunately I'm really busy this week, but maybe next weekend I can set aside some time for it if people are happy to upgrade?

I vote we wait for the first 1.13 pack. 1.13 should be out at the end of the monthish, then the mods seem to be quick to follow.

To be fair, it took 8 months from 1.12s release to now for an update to some of the "more important" mods. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on a 1.13 Direwolf pack that is filled out properly.

let's try a different mod pack We don't need to wait for him to make a new one.
If we were waiting for a 1.12 pack to have a decent amount of magic mods, then waiting for 1.13 to have a decent amount of magic mods will be similarly long. I would suspect that by the time there's a good 1.13 pack, 1.14 will be imminent and the cycle continues.
How about if I start a 1.12 server this weekend and if an amazing 1.13 pack does come out later we can consider it at the time.
It's running version 2.1 of the pack at present (and of course they've just gone and made 2.2.0 the new release ). I'll update it to 2.2 tomorrow...
I've also added a Discord server with integration for (text) chatting with people online in the game. You don't have to use the voice channel if you don't want to, text chat is all that's directly integrated with the server. This is the first time I've played with this, so it's still a trial right now - if it doesn't go well, we can always turn it off.
https://discord.gg/rQzUjt
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, Gadgetry is being removed from the pack in the next version, so I'd recommend not investing in any Gadgetry items.
Melissia wrote: What DOES gadgetry do anyway? I never heard of it before this modpack.
From what I found out, it's a factory type mod, aimed at simple blocks that do one thing only (e.g. pulverise or smelt or alloy etc) and have simple recipes with the aim of using multiple of each block in parallel for large production line like setups. It seemed interesting but has been removed from the next release as it was causing crashes and hasn't been updated in six months.
I really need to get back in to this, but I have so little free time. Usually all my time not devoted to career stuff is taken up by friends and family.
Inquisitor Lord Bane wrote: On a side note, its bloody annoying that I have to launch through the Twitch app.
If you prefer the old launcher, it is still available and works, just go to https://www.feed-the-beast.com/ and under the big obvious red Download button, instead, click the "Legacy Windows" link (or Mac or Linux if applicable).
Will do. I've been waffling either returning to this to make something nice and pretty, or just running a solo skyfactory that's set on the ground. Still unsure, just need something I can ignore for half an hour as I do something, then turn back to.
Anyone have a good guide for beekeeping? I have a nifty nuclear reactor that keeps running out of uranium, and I think bees would be the best all-round solution to that (as well as some other logistical challenges). But I have never played with them before.
I still have the bees, I think I even made the uranium ones. the best thing to do is use the gendustry items to mutate your bees. the JEI will let you know what bees it takes to make a new species.
It's been a while since we've had any changes on the modded Minecraft side of things, but now 1.16 is starting to look like it's getting a good amount of mods.
I'm happy to announce I've set up a FTB Unstable server for all those currently whitelisted for the Dakka minecraft server
How to get it The FTB Unstable modpack is available on the FTB Launcher
How to login The server address is:
unstable.darkinnit.com
Does this replace the FTB Revelation server? No, not at this time. While it's true that the FTB Revelation server has been running for a significant amount of time and doesn't see much use lately, I'm saving that "slot" for a good stable 1.16 modpack when it arrives. The FTB Revelation server will continue to run until that time.
As the name suggests, the FTB Unstable modpack is unstable and likely to crash, behave unexpectedly and potentially require world resets from time to time. However, if we did need to reset the overworld, people could likely temporarily move things they want to keep to another dimension. As a minor example of the instability, currently all loot chests (e.g. in dungeons) spawn without any contents.
That warning out of the way, there are a fair number of interesting new mods that should be fun to play with while waiting for either a stable 1.16 modpack or next year's 1.17 update.
Some highlights of the mods in this modpack (not a full list):
Ars Nouveau Ars Nouveau is a magic mod that allows players to craft their own spells, create magical artifacts and machine, and much more. This mod is a modern take on Ars Magicka.
Building Gadgets & Mining Gadgets Sometimes, building large structures can be a little tedious, and take a lot of effort. Not all of us a great builders you know! Dire's Building Gadgets aims to make building a little bit easier
Sometimes you want a quick change of pace when it comes to mining. Pickaxes. Drills. Bores. Robots. Quarries. These are all great options. Now you can use lasers too if you want.
CC: Tweaked A fork of ComputerCraft, adding programmable computers, turtles and more to Minecraft.
Creeper Confetti This simple mod replaces the standard creeper explosion with a much nicer one.
Dungeons Plus Adds 5 new dungeons to the game with maps to guide you on a journey between them.
Ender Rift Ender-Rift provides a virtually unlimited storage solution. This storage has no default way of accessing it (no GUI), and instead relies on external blocks providing inventory access.
Goblin Traders A simple mod that adds goblins you can trade with. Unliked Wandering Traders, goblins are found underground in caves and sell rare and special items you normally wouldn't be able to obtain.
Lost Trinkets Adds more than 70+ unlockable trinkets with different abilities and rarities.
MineColonies An interactive Town building mod that allows you to create your own thriving Town within Minecraft.
MrCrayfish's Vehicle Mod In this mod you can find an assortment of vehicles that will help you explore, farm, transport, race, and even fly! Every vehicle can be customised with different engines and wheels to change the speed and effective surfaces the vehicles can drive on.
Nature's Aura Nature's Aura is a mod about collecting, using and replenishing the Aura naturally present in the world to create useful devices and unique mechanics.
Oh the Biomes You'll Go An exploration and adventure mod designed to take you on a road trip across Minecraft like no other! Explore over 70 magical, realistic, and breathtaking biomes.
Portality Allows you to create your own portals and use them to travel and transfer anything using them!
Powah A tech mod that adds Various ways to generate, store, and transmit Forge Energy.
Seals A mod that allows you display your biggest minecraft achievements all the time so other players can see.
Statues This mod extends the idea of the open blocks statues
Wormhole Allows you to construct portals with the use of wormhole stabilizer technology! Constructed portals can teleport you to any defined location! Portals can be of any shape and size! Portals can also be colored using dyes!
And also a lot of the old favourites: Applied Energistics 2, Botania, Cooking for Blockheads, EnderChests, EnderTanks, FTB Ultimine, Immersive Engineering, Industrial Foregoing, Mekanism, MysticalAgriculture, Pneumaticraft, Psi, Refined Storage, Reliquary, RFTools, Waystones, Woot
Due to the unstable nature of this modpack, I do not currently plan to run Dynmap on the server. There is an FTB map ingame that works quite well.
Unfortunately the FTB Unstable modpack is too demanding on the server at present. It's way off the charts compared to previous modpacks so I suspect it's a bug rather than "the new normal".
I've had to stop the FTB Unstable server for now as it was affecting the vanilla minecraft server's performance. If they release a fix for the CPU demand I'm open to running it again. It was fun while it lasted.
