Some small progress on the Jetbike, not 100% sure where the brighter yellow should be placed on the front cowling? bottom half or top or towards the light? any ideas
Here you can see the first go of gold over the green wash on the Termies also note the difference just a coat can make to them! the next green wash will give the depth of colour and help the gold appear sandwiched between the layers.
and finally, Sternguard, should I paint the left pad white to help enforce the veteran status? or should I just go with the helmets? and black loin cloth?
What's a creepier feel for Nurgle chaos marines? dry rusted death guard style pale armour with sickly diseased skin or armour that looks like skin with rents and gashes as wounds? and bone faces? or heavily corroded metal leaking oils and blood?
Erm... both? Can't beat the corroded and textured armour, but throwing in the odd fleshy bits and wounds gives them a real creepiness as well. I reckon with the right scheme you could incorporate the two in a way that really pops. Pale, Death Guardy armour, lots of grime, then pallid and pale flesh with gory gashes used here and there for contrast...
Hmm, I'm feeling the need to paint a Plague Marine now!
That's a really nice candy effect you've achieved on the finished Contemptor, as well as the Terminator WIPs.
You probably want a little bit of highlighting at the back of the "triangles" of the bikes's front cowling - that way it'll be consistent with the highlights/lighting being on the rear of each of the arches as well as the rear of the vents within the front "triangles".
I think white would work well within the trim of the left shoulder pads, along with black fists and maybe a green spot colour on the laurels. I'd keep the trim edges yellow if doing so, though.

I know what you mean, I have (along with a lot of projects) wanted to do a Deathguard or Nurgle army for a loooong time and I had an oportunity to grab a FW upgrade kit for Terminators and hiding in my bits box was a Chaos Termi sprue my mate gave me so I thought i'd see what I can do

Thanks Az, the process for a large army is time consuming but totally (hopefully) worth it! thank you for some advice on the bike highlights I felt a little unsure but i'll work on them tomorrow. I hadn't thought of leaving the trim yellow on the marines either! I just figured they'd be all black/red or whatever company
Beautiful work Damo. That dread looks great. Love that effect you've got going, dude. PM me your addy dude, sending you the ogre plus a little gifty gift.
nerdfest09 wrote: I hadn't thought of leaving the trim yellow on the marines either! I just figured they'd be all black/red or whatever company
Well, it might not go to the letter of however IFs are "supposed" to look, but there are hundreds if not thousands of both official and player-painted variations for even the most "strict" chapters. For me at least, keeping the chapter colour on the pads as the trim keeps them much more "Imperial Fist" when the rest of the pad is getting so busy with all manner of additional colours and icons. You can always do a company colour on a kneepad or something (or use some form of modified heraldry), but I'm not a huge fan of the skittles effect of all of those different company colours as pad trim, generally speaking. Green and purple and orange and so forth - it just looks silly to me, better to go with whatever the painter feels looks best.
Thanks guys, Bebop i'll pm you my address in a minute will be wonderful to have a crack at that model tag team style!
Az, i'll have another look when I get some more colour on them and we can decide what will work best
now for a small update! woo hooo!
got some more gold on the Sallies, this time it was the assault marine contingent that got the love, next will be the characters and more stand alone marines then finally the troops.
and I also mostly assembled my IF Assault squad (it was an Assault squad kinda day!) i've used the dark fury marines for the bodies and will be finding some more mk4 jump packs for the rest of them, I wanted poses that were dynamic and action based as if when they're together there's a flurry of activity going on, the sarge's helmet is only a stand in as i'll re do the red helmet with a white stripe for him but I think all together they look pretty decent and will certainly look a little different once painted up in my yellow.
Lovin' the work on both Legions! The mottled look on the sally armor is beautiful and the jetbike is a gorgeous yellow fade. I look forward to the finished project!
Beautiful yellow comin' at ya! I got all the yellow armour done on the tac squad and the Sternguard guys and I really love the way it looks, it's rich and not too bright or dark, it's a little bit brighter in real life though. Once the rest gets painted it will hopefully be the perfect canvas for an army of the Emperor's favorite sons
So that's the hard part out of the way for those guys! next i'll get back into golding the Sallies troops.
Cheers AoV I'm pretty happy to have them to this point now, it means I'm moving forward with the fists at an acceptable rate and beginning to find my mojo again :-)
now a couple of questions about the Fists again, i'm not sure what helmet colour to paint my contemptor when I get one? I like the red with white stripe look as it gives a bit of variation, but a white veteran helmet also looks pretty cool?
second, weathering! I'm scared guys, I love the gritty look but find it hard to dust over the feet of my models and add chips on them :-( maybe the tanks and dreads etc but maybe I can leave the marines pretty neat? what's the thoughts from you? they won't be in a muddy theater of war since they'll be fighting over my ruined city board albeit with my standard brown basing : -)
Just get some powders (or cheat like me and get some pastels, and dusty them up a bit, can always clean them up if you are not happy that way. They look brilliant, as i said before, you have a wonderful yellow, and agree that the posing is making a great difference.
Yeah you need to get onto those Lamenters Solar, I haven't seen you work on them for ages :-( I loved seeing them!
My mate visited me today and i'm storing a bunch of his stuff in my shed while organises his house, we were just checking through his hobby stuff and he 'found' a couple of models I can have :-) since he can't see himself using them anytime soon I get to have them for my Imperial Fists! i'll show what I got tomorrow when I can update my bloggy blog!

They're your models, Damo. Go with what you like and damn the torpedoes. Remember, it's entirely possible to love the look of something but not do the same with your own models. The muted yellow you've used already looks weathered compared t the usual bright yellow that IF are painted with. Alternately, have a couple of "designated driver" squads to test the looks of different weathering. Breachers for chips and damage, scout-types for dust and dirty feet, etc
nerdfest09 wrote: now a couple of questions about the Fists again, i'm not sure what helmet colour to paint my contemptor when I get one? I like the red with white stripe look as it gives a bit of variation, but a white veteran helmet also looks pretty cool?
Try 'em and see? Do the white one first, because if it doesn't work out then it's easier to paint red over it.

Just start with a little, see how it looks, and then add a little more. Build it up to a level that you like.
Don't go mad adding dings and scratches everywhere and find that, at the end, there's no paint job left.
I reckon i'll try the dirty feet on some scouts when I get them and if I like the look i'll transfer the dust to my marines too and i'll wait until I get the Contemptor before I start stressing about his helmet colour
I got a little more colour on the Fists
finally got layer two over all the Sallies takes a loooong time and now I have to go back over them all again with green wash and then again with the gold until I can start making them cool!
and my gifts from yesterday I scored a Landraider and a new Knight I wanted to get them organised and primed so I can work on them when the fever takes me!
Epic work DAMO!!!! Damn dude, i wish I had your ability to power into a full sized army and make it look as gorgeous as you do. I think on the docket for my first works when I get back to LA is to try to do another squad of Space Sharks. I'm still searching for that elusive middle ground between speed and gorgeousness. Help!
Slow and steady indeed! but still progress happens
My first Imperial Fists completed Tactical squad, this is the level i'll be doing the entire army to as far as paint goes I don't want to spend too long on each of them since the majority are rescued models with some imperfections but I still want them to look good and pop on the table!
Great work on these, Damo. The muted yellow looks really effective, and the black trim looks great with them. Will you be adding the Transfers from GW/FW, or going freehand insane?
Thank you my friends! I'll be using the fists decals but I need to get some micro sol and micro set and learn how to use them properly I'm thinking I'll just use the white tactical arrows ive got instead of trying to freehand black ones on all of them evenly.
as for what's next, most probably lots more washing green on the Salamanders which is pretty time consuming and i'll intersperse that with my Sternguard squad and Landraider, i'm thinking I should get some larahman medium to use with the wash to make it flow better over larger panels on the tank without the streaking tide marks you get otherwise? has any of you guys tried this?
i've also started organising my bits box for my upcoming Nurgle army found some cool heads from Gits i'll use on my cultists as well as a few random odds and ends to throw on a few of them.
and I took some update photo's of my little Daisy May she's growing so fast! 6 months old now and a truly beautiful intelligent caring little dog!
Wow, Damo... Damn fine job all around!! Really making spectacular progress, and those Fists are awesome! You've really got the hang of that yellow.
Sallies look wicked as well. Stunning effect with that candy gold. I dont think I've ever seen someone use that technique before you started...
Oh, and remind me to ask you how you paint that white fur... the effect is stunning!
So here's a fun one for you, tanks! how the hell do you paint them yellow without the horrid brush strokes? answer: finger painting! I primed my landraider in desert yellow but was finding it hard to approach how to do the first highlight of yellow which is kind of important to get the look I like I had images of doing it with very watered paint and many layers but I discovered that if it's too watery and you try to wipe it off the panel with your finger, it 'stains' which is perfect so I got to painting and wiping! it slightly brightened the yellow enough to add successive yellow highlights closer to the edges.
So I went ahead and started highlighting the raider to see if it worked with another highlight layer, it's coming along well at this stage even though there are some brush marks you can see but that's going to happen when you are painting such large panels by hand all in all i'm happy though and it's shaping up to at least be on par with my Flesh eaters one I did only worry I have is laying on the wash at the end? i'm thinking now I'll try airbrush thinner instead of the GW medium as my research has led me to believe that's a better option.
and just a small update on the Sallies, I began washing the green wash over the gold and now you can see the shade of the green they'll be I just snapped a pic next to the first gold so you can compare them. Next step is just a fine gold highlight on the high points then details.
Rubbing the paint off with a finger is also a good technique for weathering; slap on the "dirt" and rub off the majority with a finger, leaving it in places your finger doesn't get into.
Finger painting is good fun and I do think the results speak for themselves I did a wee bit more on the Raider and also started assembling some Chaos cultists for my Nurgle army which was fun I've got 12 assembled and need 8 more to make up my two ten man squads. Still some tidying to go but they look o.k for what they are meant to represent, enough rotten and decrepit parts to mesh with the more complete bodies and the metal heads that Gits gave me from who knows where
This is a closer shot of the raider to show the extent of the visible brush strokes and just a little update
Thanks cam, the Nurgle guys are pretty messy but I tried to just get a decent mix of parts so I had options to paint ruined flesh and worn fatigues etc. and any rough glue can be diseased flesh! :-) win!
Great use of the DE Wrack kit there, Nerdy . That Land Raider looks fantastic also. Will have to try finger painting sometime. Would certainly make edge highlighting vehicles easier...
Quicky question on the new space marine kit, I got one cheap but the arms have been all clipped off the sprue! is there a way to organise them so they match up? for instance do they have 3 vents on one forearm on both matching arms etc? I don't want to stuff the assembly up :-)
Just picked this guy up for $5 so I thought i'd try and see how my ideas for a cleaner Nurgle style looks on him, since they started as men I wanted to paint the skin as normal then disease and add wounds and veins etc. I like how he's progressing but wanted your input before I went further.
I want him to be creepy and gross but I didn't want to particularly take the easy route and just make them totally dirty and rusty I've got my Orks for that!
Well thank you :-) glad he's going o.k! I've since finished him and I think i've upped the game when it comes to making him look sick and unhealthy! I went for some wet raw wounds and some necrotic skin tones and he really does look pretty gross lol! you'll just have to wait until tomorrow for an update.
I hope the general style can carry across power armoured marines and Gal Vorback (spawn) and I got the basis for my Deamon prince in the mail and he's going to look fantastic!
Automatically Appended Next Post: I also finished the IF landraider a while ago too :-) but i'm waiting on the FW tank crew to add one to the top hatch so you'll have to wait for those pics too! just wanted to keep you waiting....
I love the yellow on your Fist's. I just might nick it as I'm still having the yellow blues, so I decided to shelf them and work on something else until 'inspiration' (aka a good scheme to nick ) comes along.
As usual I am in awe of your work Nerd, it's fantastic as always and give me something pretty to look at while I take transit home from work.
Cheers guys, did you see the Yellow tute in the Dakka finepainters thread? you can nick it from there :-) it's pretty straightforward and really looks great in person! any questions just send me a message!
thanks Az, I'll fleshy the lot with dry armour and i'm looking forward to brush time on my Prince stand in!
You can just about hear the slopping of dead wet skin sloughing from diseased bones as pus filled boils grow and burst only to re grow while his shambling gait leaves a putrid slime of mucus and blood in his wake.
needless to say i've finished my Nurgle herald! and he's as gross as i wanted him, plenty of lesions and bruises and some subtle pus filled boils, add to that the image of him defecating up his own back and it turning into a bone like growth is even more disturbing but hey! that's what it's all about isn't it! I didn't want to go overboard on the nurgle rot and blood for the blood god but I think i've got a good balance with wet wounds and dead flesh. It will be interesting to have a play around with the marines and terminators since they won't have as much visible skin to work with but I have an idea of painting the armour as if it actually was their skin and body? love to hear your thoughts on this?
And now for a little preview of sorts my Nurgle Demon Prince1 it's the Ultraforge model and I am going to re pose the scythe hand and add a greenstuff tentacle to the other arm which i've just added with Blu Tac to sort of give you an idea of what I'm looking to do I think he'll be a pretty good canvas for that sort of paint!
Jesus, that is fething horrific! Amazing but terrifying stuff!
As for the SM armour/skin, perhaps an idea might be to grab some Chaos Marauder or even Demon parts and GS those to look like they're growing into/out of the armour panels, eg a bare arm that kind of morphs into a shoulder pad, or a hooved foot growing out from an armoured upper leg.
There will indeed be more! That big guy is crying out to me for paint! just waiting on some wings for him and then it's go time :-)
I've also managed to get the green wash done on ALL of Whaley's Salamander models, so now it's the next arduous task of blocking in the other colours, another time consuming thing to do with nothing really exciting to show you i'm afraid :-( you'll see them all come together once i've got everything blocked in and washed that's when I move fast! ZoooooooM
Oh wow! That is very subtle but at the same time really REEEEEEEALLY gross. I kinda couldn't look away which means you did a great job, I see far too many Nurgle paint jobs look like Orks you really did a job separating the two.
firstly I added some greenstuff to my Nurgle prince, just some ragged skin and boils and more work on his worm arm which is looking pretty good and falling naturally mimicking the shape of his tongue which i also added more too so it filled out his mouth better as I felt it was too bare!
I'm still deciding if I like his head boil? I thought he needed a larger cranium and originally added a horn bursting through the skin but it looked off so I went with another lump instead, i'm hoping it looks better once he's primed! my other option is to just make it change the shape of his head and not necessarily make it a pimple thing? what do you reckon?
So? what do we think? i'll finish him off when i get the wings and sculpt them out of his shoulder gaps.
Next little project is the start of my Armies on Parade board for this year! I'm using my Imperial Fists as the army to display and want them in a ruined city type terrain with a few Genestealers crawling about to add some interest I just started posing the Tyranids today, still need to fill out some joints but the poses are done except for one who's going to appear from a pipe somewhere
The paint on the Nurgle herald is outstanding Nerdy ! its properly disgusting !
Ref. the Demon Prince, how about making the head boil thing into a mark of Nurgle ? so its three smaller boils occupying the same space, you know , just in case people weren't sure of his affiliation …..
I love that herald so hard. just wonderful, and really captures the "No problems here, just tossed a length of poop and intestine over my shoulder to hold my bell here. 'sall good." feel of Nurgle. I always thought that was the best part of Nurgle's theme, a comfortable sort of corruption and killing, showing the happiness of sharing themselves with everyone, while being profoundly disturbing and not being aware of it.
I don't know that big demon captures that as well. Perhaps if he was holding his scythe in a more relaxed way? Slung over or under his shoulder? Just kind of saying "Just out for a walk. What? My scythe, oh I forgot I even had this with me."
I totally get that Nurgle vibe too! kind of a natural acceptance that feels so right for them but is totally abhorrent to anyone else the big guy is harder to convey that with since any major conversion would be a big undertaking for me but hopefully I can still make him look acceptable I slightly changed his head boil again and think this will work now.
and I have some more on my AoP board it's taking much better shape now, still a long way off until October but I want to make sure it's done! this is the first layer of the board, so it's the sub structure where the dirt and pipes are, i'll be putting broken slabs and masonry over the top
and here's the little update on the big guy,
And a little project i'm working on
I'm making a Honda S2000 model kit and adding myself and Nerdwench in the car! as well as a pressie for one of my best mates who I haven't seen for a long time, he built an old Toyota Hilux into a bright orange Mini Truck and so i'm making a replica of his old car for him
Thanks Whaley, I've got to up my game to make sure I place this year as there's a heap more entries that are going to be there! I'm trying to find something thick enough to make concrete slabs from but still light and manageable? hopefully some foam board will fall into my lap! and then I need to paint another Tac squad, an assault squad, finish my Sternguard and do some terminators to actually put on the board lol! good times.
The car self portrait is just a bit of fun :-) i picked the driver models up for nothing and thought i'd have some fun with making myself and nerdwench cruising in an S2000. might make her want to buy me one for reals?
The car model is 1/24 scale and i'm going out on a limb here and saying that an S2000 IS an adult car Whaley! :-) at least it's a step up from my Daihatsu! 2 seats means I won't be able to put the furry kids in it unless it's one at a time!
Well until I get a pink car you'll have to settle for some more wip and banter from me
lets see, where to start? how about Armies on parade! a little bit of progress along the lines of priming and a squirt of black but now it looks more like a board and less like bits and pieces of random foam and pipes I added some bits of busted chipboard from my kitchen demolition as slabs of floor (yes i'm also in the middle of a full kitchen renovation at home) so now I have a decent amount of depth to play with as well as some areas for models to stand.
So I also played around with some Terminator models for my Fists I want them to stand out and look pretty impressive especially when they'll be hanging with Lysander I used some BA arms I had left over and some newly acquired casts of Tyberos, Lugft, and Cull'n to dummy up some poses, looks o.k but now I need two more individual Termi bodies so the squad looks cohesive any suggestions guys?
And the Shields for the Termies are underway as well!
and a little more on the Sternguard! slow and steady here boys
So, what else is going on!? well I have a list of what I'm hoping to finish before years end!
* Whaley's 30K Salamanders army (there is progress just not exciting stuff )
* Armies on Parade board and Imperial Fists army for it.
* 20 Grey Knights for Big & LittleH
* 4 Kastelan Robots for a local player
* 2 Imperial Knights for a local player
* 4 kastelan Robots for Whaley
* magos for both lots of robots
* Reaver titan for Gits!
Wow.....I haven't visited this thread in a while and that was clearly a mistake, I thought I'd have a leisurely read, catch up on a few bits I missed. I misjudged your productivity! I have not only missed models, I've missed several complete armies! The painting on that herald though is astounding. Truly revolting! The idea of the big guy painted makes my stomach feel quite nervous!
I was thinking about other Termie bodies, then I scrolled down and saw those shields, and my mind was too blown to come up with anything, they're stunning!
The board should be epic as well, looking forward to that!

Hey man! good to 'see' you again yes i've been painting a little bit this year and a lot of random things to create some interest for myself, Nurgle is my latest inspiration and the big guy is gonna be great fun to paint, just still waiting on the wings
Paradigm wrote:I was thinking about other Termie bodies, then I scrolled down and saw those shields, and my mind was too blown to come up with anything, they're stunning!

Oh Para, too kind dude! I wanted to make the shields look like they've taken them from the walls of the armoury and they are battle worn and used to actually block things now back to thinking bout the Termi bodies for me!
Hey guys, I'm going to be doing a little project for Ritdes and painting up a Iron Warriors Knight Atropos from FW i've already started planning the scheme out and sketching up where the colours are going on, the overall look is going to be really gritty and weathered, battle worn and destructive.
I'm pretty excited about painting this model and can really see myself sinking my teeth into it here's a look at how he'll be attacked with my brush!
nerdfest09 wrote: The car self portrait is just a bit of fun :-) i picked the driver models up for nothing and thought i'd have some fun with making myself and nerdwench cruising in an S2000. might make her want to buy me one for reals?
Well if you had to have a car you needed to convince the women folk to allow you to buy, that's a good one to pick. The s2000 is a slick car with tons of performance opportunities
Wow, that coloring on the sketch came out so great!
Really looking forward to seeing you tackle it and then seeing whalemusic's warlord grind it into dust at AdeptiCon . If I've read the rules right, it seems like on a 6 this thing can do some serious damage, so maybe I'll get lucky!
Yeah the knight is going to be fun to do! I've got two more Imperial Knights to paint like i did Kiera earlier in the thread plus some GK's and Gits Admech stuff so the bonus is that they all require a base of metal colour for me to start which means I can get them all primed and base coated in one go and then work on them pretty much all at once 'cos you know i like to do things like that!
now for other stuff! I got some termies from Whaley (plus an awesome early B'day present) so i could finish assembling my squad, which I duly did and think I've got some decent 'heavy swinging' poses with the constraints of the models using the position of the torso's plus BA and Vanilla hammers and the FW shields they look dead 'ard! and you can see i've already scored the bare heads from deathwatch
Also a little more on the Salamanders! I'm going to move through them squad by squad and this is the Assault guys, all silver metals are on and washed and i've browned out the areas I want to do gold. I think I've got enough on each to add that little bit of bling to them without going over the top, next is the left pad done in black on them all.
And i finished the Tyranids for my Armies on parade board! I actually like them a heap more than I thought I would, they were only going to get a basic scheme but the colours just grabbed me and I got carried away they look pretty cool with the poses for placement on the board buildings.
Excellent work on the Genestealers and the AoP board in general. I love how you've taken the classic cream and purple theme but make it look realistic.
Thanks again guys! those Nids are tempting me to do some more! maybe one day :-) Might grab a Carnifex......
I'm thinking the models for the AoP board should be another Tac squad, a Termie squad and Assault squad to give enough difference and enough models? plus I should be able to get them painted in time! Those Stealers were meant to be bone coloured but I wanted dark purple shading and got carried away so they now are a nice muted purple over desert yellow base coat, seems to work Lol!
More board work! I've started the flow of waste water from a pipe and begun to add some powder and metallics around the place, originally I was going to do marble flooring but the only things I had around at the time weren't really conducive to doing that so it's a boring ruined floor now think I should add some grey or something to change the colour a bit? I've chosen purple Tyranids and Green sludge to go with a brown board as I think those colours will highlight the bright yellow of the Imperial Fists.
still got a few weeks left to finish it and paint the army it's a bit of pressure but I really want to win again especially since there's meant to be a lot more entries!
here it is so far, any ideas to bring it up a level without going ott?
The green liquid is a really nice effect , how did you go about that ?
Floor looks solid to me.
Maybe add some posters and trash on the walls and corners where it might have blown ?
You can use a normal household printer to make posters as long as you spray varnish them so the ink doesn't run !
As you say, you don't want to go too ott on the base, as it's meant to be the backdrop for the models; they are the star of the show.
But yeah, some rubbish here and there, maybe the odd plant struggling to make a life in a small corner out the way (not yet eaten by the nids... might be good to show the IF protecting "life" from the nids this way).
Is that the final colour of the "water", or is it waiting for the water effects / PVA to cure and be less white?
Cheers guys, I'm going to do more Tyranid work and detail the buildings as well so I reckon i'm on the right track! I've gotta find my little imperial posters in the shed now!
but until then, how about a finished 30K Sallies squad? I got Whaley's first squad done today I hope they're a decent balance of speed and good looks in regards to paint? i've got the Termies lined up next to do and they'll look really cool I reckon!
As always, Im in love with the candy green/gold. Just has so much depth and warmth to it.
I'm really liking the varied freehand on the black shoulders- awesome work on the flames- and the tiny spots of blood on the chainswords add a nice splash of color!
Fantastic work on those Salamanders. The armour is fantastic, and I'll be ripping it off for when I eventually do a squad or two/Kill Team of them. Bonus points for the freehand and especially painting the bare-headed one with African-style dark skin instead of the terrible retconned ash black.
Anyone want a bag o crap? I went through my terrain bits and some older model bits and while I may not use it I'm sure someone like Cam or DrH or similarly minded creative genius can put them to use! I'll take a pic if needed :-)
Nice job on the Sallies. I must have forgotten to comment earlier.
nerdfest09 wrote: Anyone want a bag o crap? I went through my terrain bits and some older model bits and while I may not use it I'm sure someone like Cam or DrH or similarly minded creative genius can put them to use! I'll take a pic if needed :-)
I heard my name.
What would you want for a bag o' crap?
I already have quite a collection of random stuff as I have trouble saying "no" , but not a lot of actual model kit terrain.
I could certainly make use of it, but it's a long way to send stuff that you could easily give to someone nearer.
Pic's would be interesting at least.
Aaaargh! I got pleasantly distracted again I was painting my Sternguard and then 'ding' I read a Facebook message from the owner of my local GW store who is now holding a painting competition for the free Slaughterpriest model that came with the new White Dwarf with entries on the same day as the Armies on Parade Ah crap! you know what that means!? I thought i'd just assemble and prime him and maybe a wash....... ended up doing the armour and banding should I paint the lower leg greave spikes metal or just leave them red?
so here's some work n progress on him and a nearly finished shot of the Sternies!
and the IF guys, I've just got some tidying up to do and the eye lenses and crux on the pads
And I'd go with metal on the spikes (or at least chipped) of the khorne model, to break things up a bit. With his dark skin tone I think he could use just a little more contrast, and that will help
I bought the new WD just to get my hands on that model (still haven't read it). WIP looks very promising.
Sternguard look fantastic. Much as it drives me nuts to see marines in combat without their helmets... it does add a nice variety to the squad and humanizes them a bit... perhaps I should say trans-humanizes them.
I just bought that model, wish I knew it was in WD. Oh well. I agree with Tides, just some weathering on the spikes, like the paint had been worn off, would be nice.
Sternguard look good. Are you going to rebase after they are done (I know you have bases now). Salamanders look sweet too, can't wait to take them to Chicago next year.
Cool, thanks guys! I'll do some chips on the leg spikes i'm really enjoying this model and have a feeling i'll do more to battle with in the pits! I've done some skin work now and it's nearly done, I worked it up from grey but think I might have gone too smooth back to my normal tone? anyway thoughts on whether I should add brighter highlights or anything?
On the shot of the side with the ball and chain, there's a straight line across the lower part of his shoulder that looks really artificial... is it a joining point for the arm and the body?
Well you can't say I don't listen to my peers! I greenstuffed over the shoulder gap with normal GS since I couldn't find my liquid GS and then finished him off to what I think is a pretty decent high level for me since the new Gorechosen game focuses on the pit fighters as champions in their own right and i'm thinking of picking it up when it releases as i like the concept and the chance to cave in my mate's head with all manner of weaponry!
I did a few things to add the details like different metal finishes on his main armour and the thigh armour, much more skin blending and shading with other colours as well as making his loin cloths appear like flayed flesh and his little 'man pouch' on his belt also making the skull on his back look freshly flayed like 'Predator's' trophy kills I'm really pleased with this guy and am actually looking forward to painting more and making an arena
Cracking work Damo ! The armour looks really good, your red and the gold trim work really well, and the spike chipping breaks it up just right for my taste.
And for a freebie that's actually quite a nice model ! Might have to get him added the the heap of WIP's !
Thanks dudes! I think he's a damn brutal looking model and when I get the new boxed game when it's released about the 24th Sep the other 4 fighters will get the same treatment :-) it's basically a Khorne fighting pit game where you take control of participant and do your best to take his opponents skull for the throne! to be honest it's the first boxed game and first non 40K game that I'm looking forward to getting, it might be the small number of models and the personality of them as individuals that draws me in as well as the option to add additional fighters and cards in the future! Stay tuned!
Sternguard are finally done! these guys have taken me way too long to finish and I don't know why! but here they are in their mustard glory ready to bring a bit of very accurate pew pew pew to the galaxy! hope you like them guys.
Thanks Ritides I'm glad they're finished and together they look sweet that yellow would look great on a Knight Atropos!
Now does anyone on here know much about the new Deathwatch? I was given (lucky me) a Deathwatch Terminator captain and a box of 5man DW Kill team but i'm not sure I know what to do wit them? I've sort of had a read through a few threads but everyone just keeps bickering and countering every suggestion so I gave up so i'm thinking of having them made up just with cool options like a blackshield, Frag cannon, flamer heavy bolter, shotgun and a few terminators made with the extra pads? then using them along my IF's? until I delve into pure DW army territory
So can I have some input please? I don't want to waste the builds when I do them and i'm not worried about points costs
I saw a frag cannon used in a batrep the other day. It was horrible (in a good way if it's your frag cannon). Lovely job on the sternguard Nerdy. The universe is both safer and prettier now that they're ready to be deployed!
The good news is that most of the cool DW stuff is also good. The shotguns are great up close, the Frag Cannon is nasty anywhere under 24" and the Blackshield can be brutal even if you keep him pretty cheap, just a power sword and CCW. I'd say the best way to get a useful unit using as many cool toys as possible is:
Blackshield, probably with a Power Weapon of some flavour, maybe a Storm Shield 2x basic Shotgun guys, to keep the cost down and give you some nice close range firepower- they could be given a Power Weapo/Claw if you want as well. 1x Frag Cannon 1x Heavy Thunder Hammer, because no one should ever have to justify taking something that's even more brutal than a regular Thunder Hammer.
Then with the Termies, go Assault Cannon or HF, knock together a melta-fist and you're good to go!
All that said, with the upgrade sprue in the Captain set you've got a bunch more pads, and you'll have plenty of spare arms, so if you've got any Tactical/Sternguard ect parts lying around, you could put together a counterpart squad that's more ranged-focused with the spares. Stalker Boltgun, 2x regular Bolters, Heavy Flolter and whatever you want on the Sarge (I think he can take an Auspex for dropping Cover Saves). Add in a CML Termie and that's a nice shooty unit.
Thanks Para, good info and here's a WIP of my Nurgle Prince for your troubles I'll finish assembling the DW tonight, and what you suggested was pretty much exactly what I was going to use on them the frag cannon has been received excitedly from what I read online and the image of a marine with a shotgun is just plain cool!
So today I primed a few models and started the Nurgle prince with some washes over him then began blending a flesh tone into the skin while it was still wet, I'll make him quite light skinned I think so any nasty bits stand out I saw a horror movie trailer a month or so ago and the scary bit had coal black eyes with red skin around them bleeding into white and looked creepy! so now the Prince gets it too!
Actually got a fair bit to show you today! lots of wip on projects and a finished Landraider
I like to start with the finished stuff so now I've done the turret gunner I put it all together and voila a great addirion to my IF army and before anyone says anything I am trying to find the sensor boxes for the top of the side sponsons.
Next up is the work on the DP, more skin work and a little colour addition on him with his horns and tongue and a few glazes
Spoiler:
Now a few beginning shots on upcoming projects!
A couple of Minotaurs for the Warlord Titan base that belongs to Whaley and being done by Ramos
Spoiler:
Two Knights plus Kastelan and Magos for a local guy who gave me a bunch of bits and I said i'd paint something for him lol this is what he sent
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
A large squad of beautifully converted Grey Knights for BigH to be done in a dark and gritty style! [spoiler]
The Minitruck model kit for a present for one of my best mates who's visiting in November a replica of what he owned.
Glad to see you are trying to add decals to your list of weapons in your painting arsenal. Land Raider looks good. I think the Sharks land raider is missing one of the sensors too, even after I sent a spare! You must hate those things
The land raider is proper nice mate, the lascannons are spot on for burnt chrome, nice one !
As for the workload, that's this week sorted, what's for next week ?
It all looks really promising and LR looks amazing.
DP is coming together really well. Your friends uuut is looking glossy. Looks like it has been parked in a rough area at mo, just needs a couple bricks.
Well thanks everyone I know it's a lot of projects to work on but they share common attributes so I can work on more than one part at a time that's the plan of attack, so if I'm washing with Agrax then I'll wash everything that needs Agrax and move on to the next part as you can see there's a lot of metal based my models so I will attack all the different washes
Cheers boys! I'm pretty much at my limit without disappointing anyone I think! once I've knocked a few mini's out i'll be able to see what else people want doing :-)
You've gotten tons done since I've been on hiatus, Damo. Great work on the Slaughterpriest, Sternguard and Land Raider, and some fantastic WIP on the Daemon and the pile of spoiler-hidden work.
Hey guys, a little update on some wip and I finished the model car for my mate
But FIRST!
I got THIS!
Then after I got that and assembled the models because, well, why wouldn't you! I got some more of the base colours on Whaley's Sallies, this time was the dark grey base for the pads and a wash of black ink.
and while I was washing things with black I added the rest of the bronze to the Grey Knights and washed them all too! coming up nice and dark and brutal even at this stage
and I did a teeny bit more on the DP skin, I'm wanting to keep it really light but still have the subtle colours show through so it looks gross and sickly!
and my mate's Model MiniTruck this was the first model car i've tried to actually paint and build like we do with our models and while it's not perfect it actually looks pretty damn close to how his ute looked! same colour, similar wheels, I had the paints to do the interior in the same grey/blue and the whole process has given me insight into what to do next time!
Thanks guys! I haven't played Gorechosen yet since I have no friends but once I get some friends I'll hack them to death in the arena! haven't started painting the figures yet since I've got more than enough to finish at the moment but when I do they'll get some serious love and attention.
but today I can show you some progress on those projects I need to finish
Whaley's Salamander Terminators are nearly done, golds finished and now for blacks, lenses and flames then a nuln shade in parts and a final silver highlight and bingo!
And LittleH's Grey Knights from Biggie, they are looking good I think, I've done the base metals and blades and based all other colours and washed them so they're ready to go for the next step, only thing I'm not pleased with is when they were primed it was slightly heavier than I wanted in a couple models so I've lost some shallow detailing (nothing serious though) and now I've got to pull the magic brush out and make these look dark gritty and knightly which I think i'm doing so far I love the Siggy legs on the master with the pose it just works!
And for my mate down south in Hobart i've got Bretts Knights and Kastelan under way, I slightly tweaked the style for these two since the plates were glued on and I gotta say I'm actually liking the way they are turning out! imagine th candy red pops on the shoulders and face plates and boom! cool Knights
So there's today for you! I feel like i'm just reaching my stride with them all and progress should b faster now, once these lota re done I'm into RiTides Knight Astropos and friends and Gits' 30k Admch and normal Admech for his armies!
Those Grey Knights are sweet! Mind sharing how you did the lightning on the sword, I'm assuming wet blending for the base colour and lines for the white?
Hey guys, quick update today, but yes there are certainly aspects of these knights that will lend themselves well to RiTides Atrapos Knight I was just practising and checking how I liked certain things since Brett was happy for me to do whatever with them both I think I'm set now for when I get to painting it, it will be epic, nearly as epic as Gits' Reaver when it arrives from the Titan Forge
The GK blades were a silver base washed with green ink, then a watered white electric squiggle then a wash then a squiggle then a wash then a squiggle make it whiter where the squiggle cross each other or at the base of the power weapon
Here's the update on the Knights.
a bit more detailing to do, lenses, highlights, scrolls, weapon glow and basing
Your reds are fantastic Nerd. Really nice deep red.
Also re the Gorechosen models: I didn't fully appreciate just how massive the Slaughterpriest models are compared to an average human sized model lol. My brother put his together last night and it's a monster!
Thanks guys, I am pretty pleases with the silver metals on the knights, they look and feel really cold and kind of have a finish like old iron sheeting, too many chips on the lower legs for my liking but I'll see what I do later with them. Usually after doing a big model I want to rest up from big models but these are making me WANT to paint the Knight Atropos soooo bad! I can tell it's going to look awesome!
Solar_Lion So you're the unfortunate sap who's going to get stomped by a bunch of Candy Green Sallies! the Termies are nearing completion now and then I'll do all the more elaborate or special type models before I take on the horde that is the troops!
Been slowly sifting through your work. Takes a fair bit of time. But since I have been laid up sick almost all week it has certainly entertained me. Love the development of your painting style.
You are bloody prolific in your progress though. How do you stay on top of it all?
Hey PDH, haven't seen you around for a while! :-) thanks for the comment on the Knights but I can't take credit for them! they were built by BigH and they're a mix of Stormcast legs, marine and GK bodies and arms and GK backpacks. Gives them a more arcane look that works nicely with the fluff I think, they're been fun to paint too and should be done soon
Finished up the Grey Knights for LittleH today a pretty good looking tabletop paintjob I think! means it's easy to add more if needed and you can play with confidence smiting the enemies of man with their ironed sheen dully glinting and the light of their weapons lighting the way through the darkness.
I like the weapons and the armour the most and a few bits were had to get brush too but I managed to wrangle them
Next and lastly I'm working on the Space wolf rune priest for him, should see some progress tomorrow!
Those Knights are very effective with such a minor conversion. I know what I will be doing with that free sigmarine now.
As for the paint scheme I really like the metal work. The darkness works much better than bright shiny eavy metal. How did you do the armour?
I've not been round a while. Been busy with Pilgrym stuff, moving house and I sort of hang out more in the Inq28 section on the Ammobunker. But when I find time I do like to catch up on some of the good threads over here....though there are probably loads of good ones I've missed.
Definitely a unique looking GK force. Not sure it's my cup of tea, but I would be happy to play against it for sure! LittleH will have one sharp looking army.
Thanks again guys they are certainly a striking little army and should be good for that budding gamer littleH ,still finishing up the last model for him tomorrow then on the way they'll go!
Love the Knights Damo !
Little H is going to be well chuffed to have those as a Detachment to his regular marines !
For those interested, the conversion is straight forward but not necessarily simple. You take a Grey Knight body and remove the belt and stomach. Fit to the Sig-marine legs, you will probably need a small piece of sprue or something to act as a spacer and create the required stomach length , then sculpt green stuff abs back into the gap, if the body had insignia or details you liked on the original stomach you can carve them out of the bits you removed and add them now.
The body will look too narrow for the legs, add 1.5mm plasticard discs to the area the arms fit to and smooth greenstuff out on to the chest to even the lip out , this can be tricky to get smooth around all the details on the chest, but not too bad !
Now you will have to trim the arm angles a bit to get them to match up…….
The heads with moustaches and skull caps are from PuppetsWar.
There you go, simples !!! Its pictured in my WIP blog if you're interested.
Thanks again Damo, can't wait to see them in person !
I've now finished the Wolf Priest so all the models will be wrapped and sent tomorrow for LittleH, I actually really liked painting this guy, he gave me a few ideas and I enjoyed doing the grittier style on him, i'm sure there's more I could have done on him since there's so many trinkets and pelts and small details but he's certainly painted well enough for a few battles in he Ale house! anyway it's not about what I like its what LittleH likes and I hope he does like it
And a little history of my life with Space Wolves; Waaaaaay back when the world was flat and dinosaurs still walked the earth I was about 14 and just getting into 40k trying to see what it was all about and like many young teens the mighty Space wolves took my fancy, those original metal Terminators with the paintjob and pelts were my pride and joy back in the day and I always wanted to build them and play an army but sadly I couldn't bring myself to keep going due to my abhorrent paint skills, so I stopped and went on a hiatus for many years until I was about 27 when travelling with a friend who was entrenched in the world of 40k and we stumbled across a SW Battle force going cheap so I bought it and started again! some of the earlier paint jobs are still on this blog or gallery and thy are terrible but I painted so many I burnt out on the wolves and tried something else which led to something else which then again led to something else! one day I'll do some more but I won't be following the current schemes for them as I prefer the earlier cleaner armour with the few tails and colours to differentiate them. On a side note I used a pot of original Space Wolf Grey I owned back then on him
He looks great. The style really suits the space wolves. You have done such a great job of making his face and hair leap out of the armour and it really sucks you in. The hair colour is a lovely rich tone.
whalemusic360 wrote: What's the base model for that H? I recognize the arms, but I'm not super familiar with the SW models.
Nice paint Nerdy. Should look good throwing JotWW or whatever is good these days.
Hey Whaley ! The body was Njal Stormcaller(?) it was just the body I picked up from the FLGS for about 2 bucks ! The arms , weapons and bird are plastic bits mishmashed together from the bitskip.
And now for some assembly fun! this leggy beauty is RiTide's Knight Atropos and it's sweeeeet!
I've left off the plates for painting and the arms I'm in the process of pinning but I've made the base and got the model pretty much sorted ready for painting when I get everything else assembled which shouldn't take too long! he/she does stand straighter but i've loosely pinned the feet, torso and leg for posing
Wow, that Wolf looks great! Really has the look of a veteran of a thousand battles. The armor is worn, but still clean-looking. Awesome color for the beard as well!
Love what Im seeing on the Knight as well... Thats my particular favorite "class" of knight, what with the spindly legs and whatnot... One of these days, its on my list to grab for myself
Well i'm glad you like the base and pose RiTides! he's all assembled now and ready for a nice sunny day to get primed with his friends!
but until then I've finished his base pretty much completely, there'll be a few touch ups and i'll paint the lip once I paint the knight and put him on to see it as a complete picture but until then I hope this is up to your expectations so far?
Great job on the GK's, i am not a huge fan of them but the conversion work is top notch along with the paint.
The space wolf i really really like. I like grey space wolves not the blue grey the gw studio uses. This kitbash is fantastic.
Now the atropos. I've done 2 fw knights and 2 gw knight's for a friends 30k mechanicum army. I really really dig the fw kits and the atropos is by far the best looking knight kit fw has put out yet. The head is fantastic, the lines on the armour look freat and the studio xana 2 bome paint looks aces.
You paint skills never fail to impress me especially your flesh so i can't wait to see where you go with this kit.
Just going to add my voice to the chorus here, Damo - the GKs look fantastic, and so does the WIP base for RT's Knight. I'm also a big fan of that Wolf Priest. Very impressive work on this lot, mate!
Thanks guys, I really like where the whole model is heading including the base, i'm not a huge one for bases but I like to play around with things like this I'm going to add some churned muddy grasses in spots and maybe some more yellow on the IF backpack? but not too much more since it's the Knight that needs to stand proud!
Speaking of Knights, not the Atropos this time, but the other two i'm doing (lots will be carried over to the Atrapos though) I was going to leave them as they were since Brett was happy with them but the perfectionist in me had to just have another play with them and try another 'thing' I wanted to see how it looked and then I ended up re doing both arms
Well done enemies lol! yep certainly going to be crispy when that gun heats up! I like the little spot of brightness on a darker model like this, just adds a little pop of Oooomph.
@ Solar_Lion, I made the base for the Knight from my bits box, a few left over resin basing details from FW models add a lot more character :-)
Salamanders for 30K! yes please I really like this combination of green/gold and black it suits them so well and the flame motifs i've gone with a more design oriented style which I prefer on them hope they look good enough for you guys and especially Whaley!
I also have managed to finish the assembly of the rest of RiTides and Gits' models I can say that I am not a fan of mechandrites!!! those fiddly little fragile resin strings of pure evil! but they're together now and I'm happy
Gits got all his 30k Skittari built and some Vanguard and Rust Stalkers for 40k as well as another Dominus model so that'll keep me busy as well! the pics i've got are just assembled but as of now they are all primed! which means I can start painting!
These Rust Stalkers are really really cool! I played around abit with poses to give them a sort of jerky insectoid look and I'm champing at the bit to get brush on them!
Oh you gonna have fuuuun! Loved painting those guys. Gorgeous figs. Know what you mean about the bloody mechandrites. Fiddly buggers to bend and place. For some idiotic reason I pinned them. That was a pain in the arse but great figs all the same. Looking forward to seeing them all nerdified!!!
Sallies look glorious btw
Those Sallies are absolutely lush... Think you nailed the flame details by keeping them to a minimum. Man... Im excited to see these in person
Now the Mechanicus stuff!! Hoooo boy you're gonna have fun with those guys! They're still some of my favorite models to paint, even if GW/FW decided to make them the fiddliest things imaginable!
Well it's a little robo-mule that nerdfest added a flamer to. I'll be using it as a servo-automata with flamer, or just a familiar / cyber-occularis (AKA mascot ) depending on the game!
They're available from Blind Beggar Miniatures here, quite cheap too! Also some other robo-critters on offer although it's easiest to see the full range by looking at the KS that originally funded them here (which is how I got them... like most things )
Awesome work on the salamanders, love the style of the flames. And those rusts talkers are incredibly dynamic, I can't wait to see them finished. Amazing work as per usual.
Thanks guys! i'm in my element now that they're built I will kindly accept your apology Mr RiTides as they were painful to assemble but they are now all mechandrited up!
I have pretty much painted up a 30k Skittari for Gits as a tester and he looks pretty decent, like I mentioned the sculpt on a few leave a bit to be desired (the gun barrel isn't as obvious in hand) but keeping them dark goes a long way yo hide any minor flaws and an added bonus is they look how we wanted them to look these boys are Dark mechanicus who have just turned to the side of Horus so Gits wanted them to be dark metal and black with a grimy countenance and a little pop of colour with gold and red, so I did red lenses and chest cog and gold around the surround of the helmet lenses and just a small accent on the shoulders.
I also started painting the armour on Asterion Moloc in between washes drying, I wanted to paint the panels and blend in the highlights since he is going on the base of a rather large model with his friend Enkomi! I still need to make him a bit darker then a final highlight before the other details get done. plus I can't have stuff on my painting table and NONE be for Whaley! that's unheard of!
Ooh, I'm looking forward to seeing your take on Asterion Moloc Nerdy! Should look pretty violent! Maybe put a severed Space Marine limb or something on his base for that anti-Astartes kinda vibe.
Finally able to get on Dakka again. I love the job you've done on the adsecularis covenant Damo. I'm going for a "freshly minted dark mechanicus" feel for the army... so just the beginning of the chaos taint... nothing as advanced as you'd find in later eras. I think they're going to be a beautiful start to my 30k AdMech cybernetica force. Thank you for applying your talents to them and getting me off to such a great start.
The skitarii will indeed complete my 40k AdMech army... well, the normal part of it at least. The rest of my army that you've built and painted previously always gets rave reviews. I'm very excited to have an all-Nerdy army to be able to trot out.
Well after a couple of pretty hard core days of painting I've finished ALL of Gits' models so pleased with them all as well especially considering the time frame! now he will be able to take them to the game in November which is what i wanted to finish them for.
So first up lets take a little look at the rutstalkers, 5 gangly metal assassins.
and here's their mates the Admech Skittari, I like the brassy gold and the shadows in the metal with the red robes it is a simple scheme but just loos bloody good!
And their counterparts the newly turned 30k skittari in their ranks ready to cook!
and here's a little bonus for Gits a set of 4 Servitor automatons! gifted to him from RiTides and painted by me
I managed to get a litle more done on the Asterion Moloc model for Whaley, only bad thing is I kind of got......inspired......and,.....well, I may have bought him for myself to do a Minotaurs force myself
But wait that's not all! I assembled my Space Wolf terminators and have decided on forming Sven Bloodhowls great company! I just did a few little minor conversions for these guys, a slight twist of the arms here and there makes a more volatile presence as if they're swinging or shrugging a challenge to the enemies.
All of the work you put in on the ruststalkers, skitarii, and Moloc is just incredible, some of your finest work. Some of the best work I've seen anywhere.
Stunning work, just had a good flick through the last few pages, the effect on the burner is outstanding and the weathing and highlights on the stalkers and thralls is top shelf. Will defo be checking in regularly
Thank you so much guys! I pushed myself with a couple of long days of painting to make sure I had them all done in time, 35 models ready for Gits' game! I hope they kick ass! I knew I could do the metals quite quickly (in actual brush time) so I wanted to add some pops of colour with the red, the robes on the Vanguard look really quite good even a little 'dusty' in the colour of them and the only problem I had was a brush or two that didn't want to play nicely when doing the cog teeth :-( but turned out fine in the end! :-)
I'm over all really pleased with the look of them all and hope they do well for Gits.
Wow, Gits admech look epic, and I can't believe you knocked those out so fast! The reds and metals are fantastic, and the scheme works so well together. I am very impressed and sure Gits will be, too
First of all, I love your work. Consistently awesome paint jobs and color schemes and your metal is second to none. A bit of constructive criticim though: Did you ever consider using another color background for your photos? Your models are usually very dark and sometimes they lose something on the dark background, the contours blend with the black and it's a bit hard to see them fully if that makes any sense. You also lose the reflected light from the surroundings (as black doesn't reflect light) which makes them darker still. I actually tend to prefer your WIP photos from your desk for this reason! Would love to see your stuff on a white, grey, blue or similar background. Tale of Painters had a good article with examples recently: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.se/2016/10/chat-black-or-white-backrounds.html
Lovely work Damo. Beautiful! All that I could have possibly hoped for!
The servitors are a wonderful gift... my thanks to both you and RiTides. I've already got them slated into my 30k list... I'm pretty sure I can find a "counts-as" slot for them on my 40k list as well.
Glad you approve Gits! They are pretty simple little models but really cool looking and look good interspersed among other models as if they were flitting around doing tasks! I hope they can make an appearance in both armies for you
thanks Mymearan for the positive words and the feedback on the background I use, I might try to use a white one and see how I go with it but I find with my eyes the black I can see better. I do prefer the black and probably for one of the reasons you don't and that's it adds that really dark moodiness to the models as if they were an artistic picture rather than just an advertisement for a model, not that that's a bad thing either it's just something I've struggled with with my photography over the years
RiTides you and Gits are going head to head with these guys aren't you? I expect a fully photographed Bat rep!
We're definitely doing a Knight battle at AdeptiCon and might get 500 points to spend depending on the rules Solar_lion comes up with, in which case I'll have my own servitors tagging along repairing my Knight . Will definitely take pics!
Hey guys, I finished up the Iron Warriors Knight today! it looks so damn cool! I love the 'slightly cleaner' dirty metal on such a large model especially with the yellow parts. and the finish on the guns work nicely against it all I tried a new addition by giving some of the chipping and weathering more substance by putting gel glue on the model before priming so I could paint them in with the dips and ridges. I don't really know what else to say about it!? it's big, it's powerful and it looks simply wicked! and I'm looking forward to doing this across an entire force! love to hear your thoughts
Fanfeckingtastic. Beautiful work. Love the weapons and love you didn't do ghastly spray osl on the guns that I've seen on every other Atropos. That is one seriously gorgeous chunk of knight
Wow, I am in love! And your quick phone pics didn't do it justice in hindsight now that I see these . Just incredible, and I love the balance you found on the metals - dirty and interesting, but still recognizably Iron Warriors!
Whalemusic, I've got a thread in the 30k forum with the list here, would welcome any gaming input! I posted that nerdfest is working on it and will probably share some of his pics over there as it's done, too
Whalemusic, I've got a thread in the 30k forum with the list here, would welcome any gaming input! I posted that nerdfest is working on it and will probably share some of his pics over there as it's done, too
Nice. Look forward to having the two Nerdfest armies duke it out. I don't have any good suggestions, as I haven't played 30k yet.
Haha, yeah I noticed War Hounds are usable at 2K (at least with like a Leviathan detachment, normally it's 25% max). The catch with 30K games is LoW models aren't allowed under 2000 points (so no knight), but we could also just play 1500 and have the Knight Atropos / Warhound glower at the table from the sideboards
I would totally be up for a "nerdfest vs nerdfest" army battle at AdeptiCon if it's done in time, that would be awesome to behold!
