For some reason, I suspect a huge number of these gloriously over-named models will be turning up in the next couple of weeks, so I figured, why not try and get as many of them in one place as possible? It was jokingly suggested as a theme for next month's actual Unofficial Painting Challenge, and while it's a bit too specific for that, I do enjoy seeing different interpretations of the same model, especially one as cool as this that loads of people are going to be working on!
So whether you're painting it stock as a champion of the Blood God, slapping on some armour and making it a Space Marine or even turning it into an Ork Warboss (I've seen the suggestion, I want to see the result!), post up your SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE in here! There's not going to be any points or votes or anything like a regular challenge, and you won't win anything other than the Blood God's favour, but I think it'll be cool to see what the community comes up with!
Without further ado, BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Or, more appropriately, can you put a commissar’s hat on one? I think they’d do a decent job keeping the troops moving forward. Who needs a bolt pistol to enforce discipline when you have a HACKBLADE?!?

You know what this thread needs? More SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE! So here he is, the man, the myth, the legend, the SLAU... you get the idea...
Really enjoyed painting this one. My favourite part is definitely how he's a SLAUGHTERPRIEST, but I am also rather a fan of the fact he has a HACKBLADE. The WRATHHAMMER is also a much-overlooked part of the design, I feel... and yes, I did literally just dip said weapon in BFTBG, because this is not a model that in any way calls for subtlety!

I'm not spending $20 (10 plus 10 for shipping) just to get a SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE! If I see it at my FLGS on Saturday (doubt it since it'll disappear quick I'm sure), I'll get one, since the magazine interests me in addition to the SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE.
We now return to our regularly scheduled SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE!!!!!!!!!!!! (that enough exclamation points for you guys?)

Post by: Buttery Commissar
It would be quite simple, there are only three Khorne icons. One tiny tag on his belt, one engraved on his helmet, and one on his loincloth that you can leave off anyway.
His arm has a mouth though.

Post by: Paradigm
You say 'the arm has a mouth', the Magos says 'you can jam a cable in there connected to his eye via the left lung and the job's a good'un!'

I've already glued mine together, but seeing these conversion ideas, I'm tempted to buy another one. I've never converted anything, but this looks like quite a good place to start.
Wouldn't most head look too small though? He's a big bugger.
77159
Post by: Paradigm
No moreso than it already does, I reckon. The head is not really any larger than, say, an unhelmeted Space Marine already, so other than stuff like elf or Guardsman heads, you should be all right. I'd hazard a guess pretty much any Bloodbound/Warriors of Chaos head would work fine.
103438
Post by: ZoBo
haha...you guys are too good!
I was literally just coming here to ask about just how big he is, specifically, wondering if an ork boy head would work on him...I was going to try and do a face-swap with a helmeted ork head and a helmetless marine head/guardsman head or something...although that in itself might not work....hmm...

Post by: feltmonkey
I was thinking of trying to make him 40K but I don't think I have an army he would sit right in. No amount of converting is going to turn him into a Dark Angel or a Harlequin/Dark Eldar.
As for Age of Sigmar, I play Sylvaneth, so that's not going to work either. I have a box of Kataphron Destroyers I haven't built yet, so maybe I could raid that and turn him into some kind of cyborg. They might be around the right size.
I better make sure I don't use any bits I'd need for the destroyers though. That's a £30 box I bought just because I liked the miniatures, and which I really couldn't afford, so I can't render them unbuildable!
I don't really have a bits box, unfortunately, as I don't really do conversions.

Frankly, DE sounds the easiest option, he'd make a great Grotesque. Remove the hands and graft on some weapons (the flail would actually work just attached to an arm stump instead of a hand), take the horns off the mask and leave off the Khorne belt, maybe add some tubes or wires and Bob's your Haemonculus!

Anyone got any ideas for fitting one onto a 25mm square?
3488
Post by: jah-joshua
@methebest: maybe put him on a 50mm square, and just take up 4 spaces, like the Grail Reliquary???
a large cork "rock" that flares at the top could work, depending on the guys he needs to rank-up with...
cheers

I finished up my Slaughterpriest with HACKBLADE and WRATH-HAMMER today. This is the first 28 mm mini I've painted in years, and I am definitely rusty. Everything is so tiny, the big pics show off every little mistake and sloppy bit, but I'm happy with how he looks in hand. This was also my first time trying to paint a darker skin tone, and I think it worked, but the highlight color stands out maybe a little too much.

I must admit I was a bit nervous chopping up such a nice model. The proportions seem all out of whack now, I currently trying a few different heads. I tried a nob head and it just looked crazy, his head was about as large as his torso, gretchin heads are just too small, perhaps something in a helmet as you've done would work out better.

the head you're using in the pic doesn't look too badly proportioned honestly...although I almost want to see him with a grot head now! - he could be one of Zodgrod Wortsnagga's "Supa-Runtz"!
I know what you mean though, I was kinda worried about the proportions of the head I used too at first, but it works, just (I used the "mini-nob" head from the boyz box, then carved the ork head out of it, and stuck a trimmed-down space marine sergeant head in there - I'm still surprised that any part of that process worked at all )

I think the head you used works great. I've tried it on mine and really liked it but I don't want to copy so I've opted for another. oh yeah, it was a bit of a pain carving the head out of the helmet...took a good half hour to an hour of many many slices from various angles ...I'm happy with how it turned out though ...I kinda like this one, you need to model some flames onto it, and have him standing beside a warbike...an orky version of "ghost rider" ...this one is pretty cool too...if only it was a little smaller...the mask makes it a bit too bulky unfortunately... ...and yeah...that nob head does work pretty well on him as-is...huh...I had already converted the head before my white dwarf arrived (I got too impatient ), so I didn't actually get a look at the original head on there... ...so which head are you going with, if not any of those?...the one you posted before, with the skull-hairdo? same head as posted before, but I've cut off the skull + hair... I've painted that head perhaps 7 or 8 times, I want him to look a little different to my boyz =)
just trying to figure our if I should to the torn up marines as blood angels (my other army) or ultras, the ground is yellow/cream dessert colour (i used for all my bases as my board is themed like this) so I want something to contrast. Perhaps a green marine as I want the blood spatter I will inevitably daub onto it to stand out.

hmm...I'd lean towards a mangled ultramarine myself...well I mean, who doesn't love seeing a mangled ultramarine ...and the blue would probably be a good contrast to the sandy/yellowish base, green ork, and red blood splatter (of course, I might be a bit biased here, my boyz have looted 2 ultramarine rhino's to use as trukks, and an ultramarine drop pod to use as the howdah on a squiggoth ) Moolet wrote:/off-topic How are the goff rockers coming on? the rockers themselves are still just primed, but I made a start on the wagon lastnight, there's a lot of black, and a decent amount of chequers so far ...I'm about to go do some more work on it now actualy, so I'll probably post an update on my plog in a few hours ...also off-topic...good lord, I think I've done more quotes between this and my last post, than I have this year!

Very nice conversion, Moolet!

Perhaps a green marine as I want the blood spatter I will inevitably daub onto it to stand out.
I think the marine should be a Blood Angel, which would complement your other army.

Well, I went and bought the September White Dwarf, so now I have a SLAUGHTERHACK WITH PRIESTBLADE. I mean a SLAUGHTERBLADE WITH HACKPRIEST. No, I really mean a SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE! I haven't even decided yet on what I'm going to use the model for, let alone started assembling him. I may use him as a Chaos Lord, but most likely he'll be a Herald of Khorne for my KDK army. If I go the Herald route, I'll probably assemble the model stock, but paint his skin to match my Bloodletters (in other words, bright red with orange highlights). If I have a spare Bloodletter head, I might just use it as well (although it'll most likely look kinda funny on this beefy guy...).

Sweet work on the metals and the skin (ie everything eh?!!) best one I've seen thus far. You should enter him over on BoW; they've got a SlaughterFella with HackThingy comp running there.
Mine is still unbuilt, unloved and in its baggie o.O

Thanks so much guys :-) It really means a lot to hear some kind words, I think you can see how much hard work I put into this fella. Gonna aim to enter some Golden Demons next year (only aiming for a finalist pin, mind you) so this was my push to see what I can do right now and where I need to improve.
PS, you guys should all buy some plinths! That one cost me £2.50 or so. Spray it black and it's ready to go :-)

Feh, that ball was on-sides and he should have known better then to call the foul. Got what he deserved.
Love the mini. Not every day you see someone swinging around by their own entrails.

I've finished my SLAUGHTER PRIEST WITH HACKBLADE now. I entered him into a painting competition at my local GW. Came nowhere. I'll get some photos of the shameful results of my paint-slopping and post them up soon, so you can all marvel at my hubris.

The nmm is great, the smooth blending on the armour is absolutely amazing, the subtle redness around the chest scar works really well, and the base is spectacular. Quite the first post.
I can kind of sense what must have been your frustration with that stupid bit of rock under the skull. It's impossible to make it look completely right on a more scenic base, isn't it? I had problems with it when I painted my SLAUGHTERPRIESTS. I don't feel like I solved the problem. If it's any consolation, I wouldn't have noticed your rock if I hadn't walked in from trying to use all manner of washes and glazes to try and blend mine in with the base.

Yeah, that's just stunning! I think it even beats Bottle's, which I thought was going to remain untouched as the unofficial SLAUGHTERPRIESTIEST SLAUGHTERPRIEST that ever did SLAUGHTERPRIEST! Both are superb, though!

It's always good to see Aussie commission painters turn up.
Might have to get around to painting mine after scrolling through this thread.

Thanks for the comments on my Slaughterpriest guys, he was a joy to paint, such a great sculpt, and glad you are liking him. Will probably put him up for sale at some point (got 3 more of them to paint yet)

All of your conversions inspired me.
So, here is my first every conversion attempt. I wanted the slaughterpriest to work in my 40k collection. I apologize for the images. This is the first time I have tried to take pictures of a miniature. Also, the first time that I have ever posted. Feedback is welcome.

Finished my offering! Unfortunately I've not got any other basing materials with me at the moment so I've currently only got the texture on the base, but I doubt I'll be able to get the rest done before the deadline!!

No deadline for this one, it's just a bit of fun, so be sure to post it again when it's based! In the mean time, nice work! @bluekinger: awesome conversion, can't wait to see paint! Welcome to Dakka!

@Bluekinger, that's a really nice conversion, it really looks like a cool CSM chosen or Lord, rather than just a fantasy mini with a backpack strapped on. Automatically Appended Next Post: Same goes for Eldarain too!

Thanks, both of you.
Most of the parts I used came from a box of Cult Mechanicus Kataphron Destroyers/Breachers. They really leant themselves to the miniature.

Good effort on the conversion there. Needs paint now
All of the conversions have been top notch. Mine is still bagged until I get to a copy of codex Genestealer Cult so I can choose the right weapons for an Aberrant conversion. Loved the idea form the first page, so now the codex is out I'll be holding fire to make sure he is built legal.

Apologies if this constitutes thread necromancy but I thought it relevant enough.
Finally managed to paint my SLAUGHTERPRIEST WITH HACKBLADE!!! which I posted unpainted earlier in this thread.
Fairly happy with it. Tried out a few techniques which I wasn't familiar with. Some worked pretty well, some less so. Disappointed that my initial gloss coat went on very heavily right at the end there. It seemed to drown a bit of my weathering work.
Generally happy with overall look though as I try develope my style a bit. As usual with these things, looks good as long as you don't look to close. I like the overall appearance.
I'm afraid the photo isn't the best, but you get the idea.
Cheers
