Those tau really look like they've been in the wars! You've got a really good vibe going there. I suspect they are regretting the choice of white for their livery....

Its easier to paint battle damaged white than fully clean! Its also the style I paint for most models
Quick Campfire for Dungeons and Dragons
Cut a piece of plasticard out, tossed a few bits down, made some bedrolls out of paper towels, added sand and a few rocks. Added the flame and wood and proceeded to try out my new airbrush. Fun test piece
Awesome! I thought it might be one of the older kits. I have one from when I was younger. Very similar, but no mask and no spear. Has the disc instead. Love how yours is turning out.
Dungeon is going to cost me around $10-15 and 3-4 hours into it now for a half dozen hallways and a few encounter rooms. Next up is airbrushing the osl torches and pigments. Maybe two hours of painting left
Tabletop quality! these were still a tad bit rushed
On to the Tyranids in the next few weeks:

Additional Models to be Painted: o 5x Terminator Squad (Assault Cannon) - I'd never really use this unit. Test Scheme o Techmarine (Servo-Harness)
o Iron Clad Dreadnought (Chainfist, Missiles, CCW) - This is a ten year old dreadnought that is fairly beaten and paint stripped - it looks sort of crappy so I may not use it if the event is paint judged o Dreadnought (CCW, CCW) - I doubt I'll use this load out often - I may use it as a count as Ironclad
I'm ditching the Ultramarine Characters for now and may use them on a different project. Since Calgar has some big fists I may make him a "Iron Hand" Calgar and paint him as such but I'm not fully committed just yet.
Estimated 75 hours left on the Iron Hands to finish them off
Future Projects:
- Frostgrave 3x3 and 2x2 Table and + 80~ or so Minis - Imperial Guard Armored Division (Traitor Guard) - I currently have this army unbuilt in boxes - super low priority
Also this year marks the end of my commission painting of the past ten years from when I was a wee lad at the age of 17. I'll only work on personal stuff and client's armies that I have already worked on prior.
This is a Christmas present for a friend I’m working on - it’s his character in classic WoW. He’s geared in the end game items he should have during phase 2. Inspired by the hearthstone card’s artwork shown here: https://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Perdition%27s_Blade
He is a friend of over ten years of online gaming and we've hung out a lot over the years in person as well. A truly cool guy - and instead of buying him a random steam game this year I thought I'd send him this to add to his shelf of collector edition game statues
The model is still unpainted - I havent actually done any detail work - just lighting and base coats
I'm raging about about this project - not sure where to go for the colors. This is part 2 of 3 for the terrain. Part 3 is on its way - added 7 more wall sections and 8 treasure tokens for Frostgrave
The bottom left piece / square chunk with the dead tree is gbetting binned and broken apart - it really doesnt match the board
This will all be basecoated again in about two weeks
1. Finishing the brown wash
2. Washing dark brown on the stones and tile cracks with a pat down paper towel. During this step also clean up the edges of most brown washed terrain
3. Brown wash metals
4. Washing dark green intermittently on the white stone
5. Dry brush khaki yellow brown
6. Drybrush bleached bone
7. Heavy Teal wash metals
will post a picture when complete. Tomorrow should be drybrushing gold and brightening things up
Hi Stevefamine, your terrain is coming along great. The ponds/large puddles are particularly effective. How did you achieve their look? Did you use resin or something else?
I was out of clear epoxy resin so I poured normal resin in the ponds and covered them with two layers of (still drying) thick gloss so far. I sprinkle a tad bit of dry pigments in and toss in some leaves.
Nearly complete - but I’ll take this week off. Album of the current progress with some photos of this setup: https://imgur.com/gallery/HJcwQdi
I picked up yellow and brown static grass and tufts. The goal of this project was to avoid using green grass and staying with the Autumn theme. I need to pick out and highlight the roses, skulls, all of the white brick edge highlighting and also drop some more pigments down.
Managed to finish these guys. Hated painting them but they look alright. Skipped a few steps to get them finished quicker / didnt bother painting hair and such
Great progress on the building. It is going to be great.
Was there a lot of work to get the Bronkorpus tank to look good? Wondering if it is worth it to buy a few to convert up for my renegades or if it is too much work.
I see you have added a lot of stuff to the back, is that a weak point?
The back is the weak point/dead zone. That and the front needs some work. It scales better as a Chimera. It's great for a non-standard guard like traitors
Cute dog! The Sicaran is a cool looking tank, will it be full on Fist yellow or going black like the Templar side of the Legion? That cellar keeps getting more impressive with every pic you post, cool that there’s what looks like a Tyranids skull on the shelf.
I know the feeling! Hopefully you get some more hobby time to get those teenie elves done. I missed warmaster, but they look surprisingly detailed for such small minis
This topic kinda dropped off my radar, but the post in the 'what are you doing?' topic brought it back. Still great work, the latest terrain piece looks excellent. I'm always a sucker for clear resin water effects. Also very interested to sed the WM elves.
Going for a Sony lens... I take it you got a Sony camera?
gobert wrote: Nice table! It has a bit of an Indiana Jones feel to it. Does the Pyramid have an interior too? It looks like it’s peak comes off
No - but that was one of the original plans. Friend built anything with a pyramid / angled edge and he plans to get better as he makes more in the future.
Nearly finished Iron Hands. At the 90% done range. About 8 hours left for faces/purity seals/redoing the black (cleaning up the layers of edge highlighting)
Lovely nids. I like the paint scheme, simple but effective. And I know the old 3rd ed grinfexes and ganglytyrants aren't the best, but I have a fair bit of nostalgia for them. Good to see they're still in use.
Speaking of 3rd ed nids, are those zoanthrope heads on tyrant guard bodies? Any notes about that?
gobert wrote: Cool scheme on the Tyranids. Imagine how cool 11.5k of them would look! Even at your good rate, it’d probably take a few years!
I have it planned in a few sections:
- Titans: Do them all the same week Hierophant/harridan at the same time
- Spearhead/Carnifex Brick: Paint all the large bugs at once to keep them similar. 3 Flyrants and 10 Carnifexs
- Metal Models Round 2: Old Raveners, Red Terror, Broodlord Zoans, other metal bugs
- Mid Sized Warrior Body Conversions, 20 warriors, raveners, and other mid sized bodies
- The Dreaded Swarm: Simplegreen 140 Guants 50 stealers, try to full airbrush them
- Ripper Week: Literally 50 Ripper Swarms
Nice shot of all those pesky alien bugs. Made me scratch myself immediately Hope you can stick to your plan and excited to see you tackling the 40k table, seeing how great your other terrain pieces always come out!
That is a big plan. I make similar plans, but never manage to follow through with keeping focus on just one project for such a long time. Good luck to you.

As long as you stay organized it can work
Finishing the Iron Hands 1500 now - the last week or so
I'm trying to get a week off of work to crank out my entire next 6x8 table this month. We'll see how it goes. I only want to work on terrain
Honestly feth painting minis. I don't enjoy it and I despise painting to a higher quality then "tabletop". Iron hands are my 20th space marine army thats 2k+ points.
Illumini wrote: Go where the painting muse takes you. No reason to burn yourself out on something when you could work on something else that you want to do.
Automatically Appended Next Post: You should make a 40k version of your DZ board
That is the exact plan. How did you know?
6x6 or 6x8. Sovietwave sort of industrial set of buildings. Cold war space program but imperium. Maglev train, destroyed rocket, soviet destroyed tank yards. Bodies in shallow water, hanging corpses, graffiti and more. Green overgrowth, rust, heavy white orange red yellow Asimov colors.
That sounds awesome! Good luck getting it moving on your week off!
Really impressive that you’ve painted up 20x2k Space Marines... 40k is an apt number of points that’s for sure! Do you still have them all or have you sold them?
Viterbi wrote: Love the dread with the single eye in the last pic some postings back. Really interesting to see a round "face" on that edgy box.
I hated the minimarine helmet

Maybe 14 of the armies were commissions. I did commissions for years for locals.
I never keep more than 2-3 armies at a time and rotate out any others/sell
I'm a broken cog in the world of finance. I have a Boiler Room type analyst role and I cater/support the deals the aggressive sales team makes. It's a screaming and disorganized rush from 3am to the end of day every day and every weekend. Double paychecks, bonuses, buying titans, and buying fancy new electronics isn't a feasible trade. I had to take a week off due to stress and mental burnout. I've never been a person to go to a psychologist but I made my first appointment off a recommendation from a friend during the next week. I'll channel the desperation and rage into this piece. Full Hemingway mode: I get properly fethed up when I binge paint on big projects. I'm loaded up this week with the unholy trinity of cigars, liquor, and coffee.
That gives me from 10/10 - 10/18 to build a table.
Themes and ideas:
- Destroyed 28mm cityscape.
- Retro Sci Fi Space Program/Cold War Russian Chernobyl aesthetic. Asiimov
- Brutalism Architecture for larger structures
- Dirty filthy white concrete color scheme. Minor colors will be chosen later
- Drowned corpses in puddles, displays of public executions, and destroyed vehicles
- 6x6 Scenario table layout for Apocalypse (4x8 Variation)
- 4x6 Standard Battlefield modular layout
- Defensive areas/gun emplacements for a large Tyranid vs Imperial fight or a Chaos vs. Imperial
- Graffiti/some elements of a GSC or Chaos Cult around the buildings
- One 2x2 "Installation" / Supermassive platform type of tile
- Maglev/Train
- Around 12-14 structures or modular pieces
- Destroy old terrain and use those pieces in this table
- War Memorial/statues and a wall of papers for missing people
Still collecting materials now! We're at 100 barrels and 100+ tires!
Sounds like work sucks! Hopefully a week of hobbying and drinking will help relieve some stress! Failing that, it’s always good to talk, so maybe the psychologist will help. Either way the plans for the table sound amazing, the wall a pictures should be pretty grim dark. You should put some Easter eggs in there like Elvis, Princess Di or the pictures of the Primarchs

Ohhhh yeah I have to think of some good easter eggs. Last time I had Emperor Palpatine as a statue on a table and a few funny graffiti additons
From 2016/2017 I made a similar memorial piece and I want to capture the sadness again
Ended up ordering the marines Indomitus half.... more marines for the Iron Hands. Techmarine, Apoth, and a handful of other lads. I also bitz ordered enough to make a 9x Eradicator mess. I wanted to avoid impulsors/the grav tanks and went with more troops.
I also plan to add jump backs to the chainsword lads and run them as assault marines.
The table is extremely WIP still. Busy at work/distracted by video games but this week I should be finishing up the second section
Ah, the bronkorpus tanks return. With resin turrets, lots of detailing and plastic card fixing the weak points, it looks glorious. Perfect for the AT 70 Reaver from Gaunt´s ghosts
Illumini wrote: Ah, the bronkorpus tanks return. With resin turrets, lots of detailing and plastic card fixing the weak points, it looks glorious. Perfect for the AT 70 Reaver from Gaunt´s ghosts
I bought stowage and some WWII /historic bits to add to the tanks eventually.
Right now my priority is finish the table then crank out armies once every 2 months or so
Fifty wrote: I love watching these big table builds! Something quite inspirational about them.
I'm all about the big table builds. I'll try and honestly build a table a year from now on at this point. It's easily the most fun I've had in the hobby. My old city table at a different scale from my 2018 blog:
Those tables look fantastic! I has great fun last year building my modular fantasy table, but I can't imagine storing massive tables like this one... What do you do with them?
endtransmission wrote: Those tables look fantastic! I has great fun last year building my modular fantasy table, but I can't imagine storing massive tables like this one... What do you do with them?
This one can almost fit under my couch lol. All of my tables tend to be stores in a really small box since I make them all stackable/modular. My frostgrave table, my friend's Egyptian table, my old two 40k tables, and the dropzone table each can fit into cloth bag/case the size of an old GW large army transport. Around 2x2 and 8 inches deep. I lend them to friends houses so I never have more than two tables in my condo since I'm in a city and we only have so much space.
This one can stack standing up next to a bookshelf and takes around the same space - 4 feet high and 2 feet deep and 9" here. The scatter terrain is all separate/magnetized to break down.
Your old city board look AMAZING! The new one continues to shape up nicely too, loads of great details. It even looks like the roadways can be arranged in different configurations, cool stuff
IGtR= wrote: Beautiful scenery as ever! Would be awesome to have a board like this to crack on and battle over!
Thanks for sharing
Most of the $$$ for the table was donated by a handful of players that haven't even had a game of 9th ed. I'm just putting in the work to grind it out. We'll use it for anything from Kill Team to fun 1v1 games since we've played a total of 2 games of 9th.
There are 6 or so dudes that just want to have an awesome table to game on instead of fold out tables/junk terrain
Scatter is looking good! It's very cool to see you and your gaming pals are pooling together to build what will be a great looking table when finished.
gobert wrote: Looking really good Steve, more PC components being used I see. I love how much detail there is already and that you’re planning even more!
Thanks man!
Yeah I dropped the Monorail idea
Lots to come. I'm basically doing hobby stuff for 40-50 hours a week
gobert wrote: A Titan for terrain, you really are mad! Is it missing bits or are you magnetising it so it can also be a standing up Titan?
No I'm going to paint it as a wreckage initially and try not to damage it that much.
For the narrative campaign I wanted to have it as a centerpiece for a game as a wreck + it'll be the cherry on top for the table to really make it pop (similar to what the crashed thunderhawk does on a table). I'm really trying to make this something.
I'll post board pictures as I go. I'll be making a 2 or 3 part video on it so thats why its taking forever
gobert wrote: That’s immense! Even the large nid and Sicaran can hide amongst the city. No doubt you’ll do it justice with the paint too
I plan to add more buildings and add on's later as well. Maybe 3-5 story buildings! The fortress walls aren't going to be used in most games. I just wanted a starship troopers style fort for Tyranids vs Guard/Marines.
This project has been a huge time sink. It's sort of how I work - I start finish armies/tables all in one go. I really want to finish everything before the end of Feb.
