Theophony wrote:I think the bus fits the zombie look better. It's more ramshackle than prison transport....but then again it's the bat-verse where criminals seem to get out really easily.
So true! I think armoured prison themed bus should cut both ways.
Gitsplitta wrote:Well, for one... you can't really do any proper scale shots when your buss has no wheels. Block it up to the proper height and you might be able to make a judgement.
True enough
Dr H wrote:I'd have thought that a round base for the batpod would have taken up too much space for gaming purposes? Not that I know about such things, hence questioning.
Modelling-wise, it gives space to make a nice display base, but so would an oval of the size required. So you wouldn't be loosing out on that front either way.
Good progress all round.
Yeah it's a tough call. 60mm is still alleyway width though (alleyways are typically 70mm because reasons).
endtransmission wrote:So, did you get many new toys for Father's Day?
Bus looks cool btw. Looking forward to seeing it all painted up in whichever style you end up on.
Cheers! Actually, it was more food based this year: Beer (woo!), crisps, massive Pork Pie, very dark chocolate. However, Ticket to Ride Europe Edition, which is basically awesome.
Ruglud wrote:Great stuff, that bus is cool - is it easy though to clean up the rough casting edge underneath? Looks a bit messy as it is.
Love the Studio Minis Dorothy gang, i bought a set of them a few years back and actually managed to paint them up and make a custom scenic display stand for them all (have them in my gallery...)
I have that worry too. I won't know till I have a chance to give it a thorough soak and scrub. Yeah, they're cool minis. Yours are cool, love the posters on the base
So I did get some dad time, also, to build:
Started on SuperLex (see Rebirth) spare chest piece from Elseworlds Superman, cape from Huntress.
Speaking of the big blue: Went with Kingdom Come. Because in a game of asset management, why wouldn't you take the version that gives you more asset
And Lex proper: plus minions: Annoyingly, my heavy trooper is missing his back guns
Also, started on the Street Demonz: Mostly layering blues.
Yeah spawning like mad. I am almost out of room in my massive army bag, it's terrifying.
Having bemoaned how useless my mates are, they've pulled their fingers out their collective... ears and we're playing DCUMG tonight. 35 point (a fast game, allegedly:
Supergirl
Flash
Arrow
Hawkman
(I'm going with a CW theme)
vs
Lobo
Zoom
Deathstroke
Deadshot
(all his favourite villains bar Doomsday)
My opponent is an ex-GW painter and he's offered to do Doomsday for my birthday. Well, it would be rude to refuse
I'll get some shots, terrain and all, later,

So, we had our game. I thought I'd do a little review/discussion of the game generally as, you know, I thought folk might be interested (it's like this is a place for gamers or something...)
The game is played on a 36" square board - and that's the first point of note: inches, not cm. BMG is cm, so it's a bit of a brain-flip, but it points to a fundamental difference. BMG is a fiddly, micro-managing game, a bit like Helldorado or Confrontation - very European, in other words. DCU is big, chunky and more like a conventional British or indeed American wargame. And, it really pains me to say this, probably more fun.
Don't get me wrong, I love the tactical depth of BMG, and I love how organised it requires you to be, but you need a good 3-4 hours to get a proper game in, along with all the bits and bobs in the world. As a complete novice, DCUMG is playable in 2 hrs. I can complete see why they're starting to push this as a tournament game, as it is very, very quick indeed. And it does, certainly, have tactical depth - it's just much more streamlined. It helps, also, that this was essentially at 2nd edition before it even hit the table, as it followed on from the late-lamented Marvel game - oh, and did I mention THAT IT'S FREE As sales pitches go, they don't come much better, to my mind.
So what do you need to play? Well, with average teams, you're looking at 5 or 6 heroes max. We played 35 points - an intro game - whilst the conventional cap has been 50, but new tournament level is 60 (partly to account for the really big hitters, Darkseid and Doomsday). You'll be running 4 models minimum, realistically, as this is still an objective based game - just blasting your opponent to bits won't cut it. That being said, we just decided to have a big throwdown, just to get the hang of it. Interestingly, you cannot kill opponents. The more damage you take, the more you weaken. You have 3 sections to your health bar, Grey Zone (where you usually have a bonus also), Pale Zone (maybe some penalties) and Dark Zone (lots of penalties). If you are in the Pale or Dark, you must make a Stamina roll at the end of turn not to be knocked out. There are ways of KO'ing your opponent also, naturally - but, crucially, EVERY turn, you have the chance of getting back up again, albeit weaker. Very, very comic feel to it.
The core mechanic of the game is Power - approx 8 tokens (dependent on character) to do "stuff" - 1, 2 or sometimes 3 to move (all characters have a 1 or 2 move, some have a 3 - eg Supergirl's Power 3 move is the same as Flash's Power 2) and the rest to use abilities. You can always spend a Power (if you have one) reactively to increase your Defense against attacks, and your have 3 kinds of abiilty, Green (any number of times per turn), Blue (once per turn), or Red (once per game). It leads to some really interesting tactical decisions, as a result. Activations alternate: you do everything for one model, including combat. Keeps everything ticking over nicely, and melee and range use the same rules. Card layout is properly intuitive and clear - we checked the rules twice in the game we played, and were right with how we'd interpreted them.
I set up Green Arrow and Hawkman on rooftops, Flash and Supergirl down below and out of firing line for Deadshot, who was across the board on a similar vantage point, with Lobo, Reverse Flash and Deathstroke behind buildings also.
Flash and Reverse Flash feel very much like speedsters. This isn't a redundant statement - Speedsters are still pretty flawed as a mechanic in BMG. Here, they ran through buildings, up buildings, darted back and forth (they can take 2 move actions, plus can teleport once per game) and were a general nuisance. Lobo was generally a tireless killing machine, and Hawkman was an absolute monster in combat. Deadshot really put the hurt on Supergirl, whilst she managed to keep going as an all-rounder. Everyone felt, well, fluffy.
Because it's a big old super game, a key part of it is throwing stuff (cost: 3 Power) , so you need plenty of scatter terrain. In Marvel, the game solely became about this mechanic, so the tweaks to the rules/damage in the DC version lead to much better balance and playability. That being said, it was very satisfying to try to hit Lobo with a Jersey Barrier. Sadly, I missed, but made up for it by throwing the swat van at Deathstroke and then Arrow filled him with holes.
What are the drawbacks? Well, it's not overly crunchy, which is fine for beer'n'pretzels, or indeed a bit more serious, but it's not the ultra-depth of some games. I can see me playing it with the kids: though the basic mechanics are a bit more advanced than, say, X-wing, it's easier once you get going.
Sadly, I'm very impressed - because ultimately, in time-limited RL, when I get to game it's about a 2hr window now.
Thanks for the review graven. Glad you found something you like that suits your life better. I look forward to more pics and battle reports so we can share in your good fortune!
Quick note: a model reduced to 0 Endurance is Incapacitated and removed from the game, so its still quite possible to kill a model permanently. It's often not worth expending the resources to do so if they get KO'd, but its absolutely possible.
Also, keep in mind that when you spend a power to up your defenses, that defense is enhanced against all attacks that target it until the model activates again or you spend power to boost a different type of defense. I find this really does a good job of encouraging diversity in attack types among your models and making it expensive to try and gang up on a single model that has yet to activate.
I recently picked up both systems and have been learning them together and finding myself preferring the DCU game overall. The big drawback I'm feeling with BMG is just that the movement feels extremely restrictive and it just costs to much to get anywhere. ~4" is slow in any game I've played and d6cm is such a weird addition given that a third of the time it doesn't even move you a full base length. Definitely going to continue to give the game a try, but at the moment I think my focus will likely be on the DCU stuff. Some of that might also just be a matter of Hal Jordan being my favorite comic character.
One thing to note: I played a bit of the Marvel game and for some reason I feel like the power economy "feels" better in this game. When I played Marvel I felt like I didn't have a lot of choices when it came to how my turn went, but DC feels a little more open for some reason, or at least, does a better job of removing redundant options from cards. In any case, I'm liking it thus far and I'm looking forward to seeing how it expands in the future.
If Deadshot got a lot of crits he could hurt her okay over a couple of rounds with his pair of once per games. She doesn't need to cower in fear of him or anything but she's a lot easier to damage than her cousin.

Ah... That makes sense. I Love BMG but it's vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvery fiddly. And yeah, I can see that about action economy in Marvel. This seems much more slick. Loving the new stuff (Wonder Woman, Amazons, Dr Fate and Martian Manhunter, oh my!)

Yeah, this. Lobo's gun, on the other hand, is frakkin terrifyin.
Got my 60mm base through for the 'pod:
Pretty happy with it:
Yes, overhang, but still. This month's rules update specifies Huge models on 60mm bases (new Wonder Woman is on horseback and cites motorcycles also, so I suspect we'll see this having to be on a 60mm regardless.
Bit more work on Penguin:
Weirdly grainy photo, huh. Sorry bout that.
Working on Big A, the new bodyguard/thug:
Lovely, lovely fig.
and a sense of scale:
Probably the best view of them, also
Birthday tomorrow, let's hope for plastic crack!
Cheers chaps,

Grand, glad you approve, and thanks!
Yeah, great birthday was had - out for breakfast, Wonder Woman in afternoon, and dinner at German brewery / restaurant. Some good Loot too - TIE STRIKER from my boys, walking dead expansion from the wife, nice set of sable brushes and walking dead solo game from parents (God bless you, amazon), and a circle cutter (and batman lunch box ) from erythromycin. Also much beer and geeky apparel.
Aside from kids driving me nuts, all well End in sight - 1 1/2 days of term left Cheers chaps

Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah, I forgot. Cake this year was Courgette and lime with a cream cheese and lime frosting, home made lime curd and crushed pistachios. If that sounds odd (Courgette / zucchini) is no more weird than carrot. Stunning BUT wife managed to give herself lime burns (wtf? Who knew that was a thing?!)
^ Cheers, yeah it really was So, birthday shenanigans done for the year (well, not seen in-laws yet but that won't hit the geek spot ).
Did get some other cool toys from my mates, DC deckbuilding game, the dynamic duo for bmg, a promo bmg card of Detective Bullock (very chuffed, they're like gold dust) and Hamlet in Klingon Also got a very nice parting gift from some of my leaving pupils of lego Darth Revan (from KOTOR), yoda keyring, a Tie striker and a Tie defender I think they know I'm a geek
Anyway, I think I'm ready to call Arkham Penguin and his bodyguard, Big A, done:
Off on me holidays tomorrow, driving down to Dorset. Expect tales of Bovington tank museum, new Walking Dead expansions, digging for dinosaurs, and me trying very hard not to kill my parents and children
Minis are looking good. Have you been playing with the ISO settings on your camera?
Speaking of... get lots of cool pix from Bovington. Nearest such museum to me was the Aberdeen Proving Ground Army Ordnance Museum. Aberdeen, Maryland, not Scotland. However, it has been closed Supposedly it will re-open at Fort Lee, Virginia some day. Bah.

A$$less chaps? no, but thank you kindly sir
Had a great holiday (almost over though ). Today was the beach, more beach and the sound of tank fire I love the south West Tanks were yesterday, and my goodness was it amazing. I know there's a lot of treadheads here but obviously can't upload to dakka gallery, so head to the book of Face (I'm Sam Graven) and you can see my Tank gallery. Suffice to say that as a history of tanks it was pretty peerless. Churchills, Shermans, Tigers, and more besides, from WW1 through to Herrick. A brilliant day with my boys and dad, taught them all lots
Tried the solo starter for TWD, Prelude to Woodbury, with the kids. Honestly, it is a bit redundant having both in some ways, with the solo learning missions a little linear, but the final scenario is challenging and different (capture walkers), especially if you try it with just a basic crew of survivors rather than the fully tooled up Governor (we got very badly bitten!) The solo event deck is smoother certainly, but still works well mixed in, and it's great to have a fleshed out supply deck. The pre-Governor governor is decent, nice sculpt, and 5 more zombies are airways handy to have. The extra gear really is great, particularly the Beretta. It's not a Must-have, but it's a Nice-to-have for sure, for the price of 2 Boosters. However, I suspect we'll get more bang for our buck from Days Gone By.
Anyway, still gadding about, so lurking mostly,
Adios
Graven.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh - despite an impressive array of tanks kits in the shop, there were no M1 Abrams,so no tank for the governor also I will of course add tank pics here should folk want and mods ok
I take it that was at Bovington? I love that place... one day I'll actually make it there for an actual event, rather than just wandering around the tanks.
endtransmission wrote:I take it that was at Bovington? I love that place... one day I'll actually make it there for an actual event, rather than just wandering around the tanks.
Yeah, I was there the day after Wargames weekend but there was a lot of good VJ/Tamiya paints etc for sale.
dsteingass wrote:Lovin Big A! man!

Yup. 1/43 optimally, as it sits comfortably between 1/48 (technically accurate but feels small) and 1/35 (some super stuff nudges towards that). But not a big deal, honest. Just wishlisting.
Anyway, hello again! I am back from my holidays, and found this waiting for me: Really wish I didn't have to use some of it as a giveaway The Amazons will, I think, be the prize this time as they're a self-contained force for both DCUMG and BMG. Nothing to report yet on the P&M front, though obviously (a) lots to do and (b) pile just grew
Couple of days off with family ahead - convinced wife to take rest of week off - so Spider-Man in 4DX will be the only geekery (£54 for a family ticket?! ffs!) I'll try to get a review of the minis written up, but that's about it. Next week, back on the paintasaurus! But SuperLex is next, promise, after finishing Street Demonz. Till then, graven
So Knight Model's are going to Gencon? Any idea where they will be ( I didn't see them listed last time I looked at the Vendor hall) and what kind of games they will be running? This is a huge opportunity for them to really enter the US market.
Well now my lovelies,
Starting to get back into things.
I did a review of this month's new DC releases, go check it out over at bigcomicpage.com and you could win the Amazons of Themiscyra box. Which is nice.
The good thing about losing a month to exam marking is the pay.
So, coffee machine (mmmmmmmmmicanseetime) new phone (so new rubbish pics ahoy till I figure it out, though technically much better camera), and going to treat myself to Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle I think.
And I did some stuff!
Finally made a Season 1 arrow version of Diggle:
It's the ledger joker with Diggle head (GS earpiece), shoulders broadened and trousers smoothed with gs. Shirt needs more new GS tidying. Hands are from Warlord survivors (thanks Cam!) with a GS taser. He'll also double nicely as just an extra generic detective also.
Started LexCorp and Superman.
Slow progress is still progress. It's our wedding anniversary on 23rd, 11 years is steel, so clearly I should paint superman for that, right?
Got this bad boy also:
It's actually part of a full donut store that's 3D printed by Z1 Designs. Really interested to see how it works out. All will be blogged!
Also, with wife back at work, hopefully get some gaming in with my boys. They've also got 2 days of Lego workshops to go to AND a couple of days at my parents' so I'm hoping for some quality nerd time. Though I'll probably get drafted into DIY
Camkierhi wrote:Nice work on the Diggle conversion. Of course Superman is perfect for that! And MMMMMM donuts!
Cheers! Quite so. I've got a 15mm print of the sign also which I can use as roof scatter
Dr H wrote:Good convertin'.
Ta! I redid the shirt front also; he's in priming just now (ah, summer!)
Anyway, cleaned and built the bus; better scale shot: It's just too small for BMG. Dead on (sorrynotsorry) for walking dead though (though the tennis zombie is made from warlord bits, again, thanks Cam, again ) Debating whether to add mesh to the front window also - but still paint it as a school bus? Or prison as planned, in anticipation of prison expansion?
Started on a couple of tie Strikers (woo!) nothing to show yet. My planned game of Street Wars NYC for tonight has collapsed but I'm just going to go see what I can blag a game of, and take DCUMG stuff with me to the club.
Hey ho, graven
Automatically Appended Next Post: Failed to blag a game, but did score a couple of collected volumes of 30s Batman for my burgeoning classroom comic library. Not bad, on balance.
So, decided to go full prison bus:
Zombie cop for scale Now I just need that tank...
Started birthday X-wing repaints:
I'm really torn on the Decimator (the big thing). It's a heavy assault craft, designed to ram if necessary, so I want (and have started on) some striations and scratches, but I'm torn as to where to go from here. It's a big canvas, really, and I like the idea of doing something more with it, but I want it to look in keeping with the strikers (which I plan on running with it). I could do red elite stripes, but I'm not sure - open to suggestions?
And Diggle is primed:
Although now I secretly wonder if I shouldn't have kept this body to make a Ragman
Or acquire another to make a Ragman? For the Decimator how about some nose art my favourite was a B1 bomber with the name "Home Improvements" at one of the Air Fetes on RAF Mildenhall.
Llamahead wrote:Or acquire another to make a Ragman? For the Decimator how about some nose art my favourite was a B1 bomber with the name "Home Improvements" at one of the Air Fetes on RAF Mildenhall.
At 10-15 for a Ledger joker I doubt it this was just lucky scrap from a mate. I'll consider nose art
Theophony wrote:Whatever you paint on the decimator it needs battle damage from ramming someone , maybe a little paint transfer.
Yeah. I think I'm going scrapes and scratches though.
Dr H wrote:Bus looks good all together.
Chap looks good primed.
Ships look good... seeing a pattern here.
For the decimator;
They are not too encouraging of individuality, so maybe some official markings or sanctioned kill markers.
Or paint the forward plates in a way to show they are strengthened and hence different (or often replaced)...
One has to question the logic of creating a craft built to ram others with a large window front and centre...
Now there's some excellent thoughts there that I shall steal.
So... I saw the pics of the new Tie silencer from Last Jedi, and that gave me a nudge:
Red windows. Also, kill markings started and scratches on the prongs.
Glow started. Now to start building highlights etc.
Strikers got the same window/engine treatment.
And, finally, started SuperLex
So much blending. So many highlights.
Sigh. But he's coming along. I'm actually pretty happy with him so far.
Cheers for feedback as ever,
Graven
Cheers bro.
Did a bit more on it...
Wtf is that next to it?!
Why it's Sabine's stolen tie fighter from REBELS.
Beast of a paint job to do.
And a bit more work on super lex.
Body armour has had fresh set of highlights (arms haven't). Am following nerdfest09 method for coloured washes on faces. Who am I to doubt the master? Very pleased.
Thanks mate. Yeah, defo but he's brilliantly written at the moment - as are Superman/Action Comics generally, tbh, and I'm no fan of the big blue as a rule.
Anyway, WIP 3
Started with yellow base for the white S and buckle. Getting there. Still need to do second highlight on gauntlets. Wonder if I need any red on greaves? And add corrosion to h beam on base, to give some contrast.
Cheers mate. Don't what to do about a 3rd colour, the obvious thing would be lump of Kryptonite but super Lex isn't evil per se. Maybe a helmeted head or something?
Maybe some glowey light purple spots. I just looked up super Lex Luther on image search since I'm not up to the decade on comics and he seems to have a few spots of white, and the purple would be more of a throw back to older Lex Luther colors.
Theophony wrote:Maybe some glowey light purple spots. I just looked up super Lex Luther on image search since I'm not up to the decade on comics and he seems to have a few spots of white, and the purple would be more of a throw back to older Lex Luther colors.
It's a possibility. I'll not deny I'd like to get the classic green and purple in there.

Any suggestions or watchouts?
Red stripes or all reds ? Imperial veterans, with Countess Ryad in her TIE D, is wonderful. I keep meaning to pick up the Upsilon (Kylo Ren's shuttle) and run it with a Striker and the Decimator. But I love the look of the Decimator with the two strikers. Bombs, and K Wings especially, are very dominant just now, but there's currently a massive "Screw the Meta" backlash too, which is fantastic - a lot of the top ranked players are going out of their way to play non-meta fun builds to prove that it's all about the pilot. In other words, Fly Casual. It's really encouraging to see, even as a casual player. Reminds me of the glory years of competitive Trek CCG (before it all went to the crapper, but anyway...)
Gitsplitta wrote:Focus the camera!
Yeah still work on getting my head round new camera phone. Hopefully this is better:
NOT perfect, but better?
And the question of what to have holding. I am torn between a HIVE helmet (yellow, black eyes, and maybe an 'H' on the ground), a Scorpio helmet (Orange, black visor - the goons first seen apprehended by SuperLex in Rebirth ), and the head of Braniac (green head, purple dots, maybe cables like a servo skull hanging down ) - here's the possibilities:
Thoughts, C&C, etc... ?
Cheers gang,
Graven
Wow, lot of Braniac love. I'm on it.
Dsteingass, it comes with armoured plate for wheels, cupolas and extra fuel tanks, plus spikes hubcaps also. So, there is choice
A little from column A, a little from column b I'm trying really hard make my dc stuff much more bright and comic-y than the grim, dark batman stuff. And new camera does help, too, in that it seems to have better light adjustment for natural light levels. Cheers!
So, I think I'm happy with Super-Lex, and tried a new lighting rig/box/camera setup:
Possibly a bit dark but very true to the model colours.
Had a great game tonight, demoing to a new victim and helping/hanging with Metropolis and Antarios
Going to try to get some paint on stuff tomorrow. Kids out, hopefully some Graven time
Also got try Street Wars NYC (couple of days left on Kickstarter, tl;dr definitely one to back). Without going into minute detail, there's some neat mechanics in this. With a core rule of 4+ always passes (and the game uses dice from regular d6 all the way up to d12), it's pretty easy to get your head round.
Although players activate their whole gang at once, you can move out of sequence to react to an opposing figure, giving a dynamic touch.
Also, it's also worth remembering that this game isn't just about fighting your way to the top: your gang gets there by vandalising, mugging, breaking in and stealing (and sometimes uncuffing a brother where necessary) too.
That being said, ain't no winning the street without a rumble, and the mechanics for fighting look pretty slick, with a simple opposed dice roll system.
However - and this is one of the most interesting aspects of the game - your gang don't always do as they're told. Each turn, to use them, you must make a Funk roll - on a 4+ (better characters have better dice, so it's always at least 50%), they're feeling funky and will do as ordered. Otherwise, they can just strut about or, on a 1, strike a pose and the initiative passes to your opponent.
As well as building and customising your gang with all manner of gear, you can design your own crew. But there's plenty of options, from Warlord down to ganger, not forgetting those MVP, independent operatives who bring jive suckers the pain for the right price. And then, you get do the deed, hit the streets, and get the payoff - along with random side missions for your crew to tag, bag and brag their way to the top.
The minis are nice too:
Black Cobras, disco martial arts dudes led by the pimp mack daddy The Saint
And the Devil's Outcasts, mean thugs and warriors all.
Scale shot
So a bit smaller than BMG but otherwise spot on at 28mm. Beautiful casts, no flags or mould lines at all. Worth a punt!
Hope y'all found that interesting, and thanks for ongoing support

Cheers old chum. Means a lot, thanks, this is what happens when you force me to push myself!
Right, onwards - working through foot soldiers et al, so, Street Demonz:
These will also be great for Street Wars so I know how I'll be painting my Devil's Outcasts now.
And a quick repaint of a TIE Aggressor
Going to go sell a lump of what's left of my soul to GW and buy more washes today. Not going to look at Plague Marines
Can't prime much at the moment because am in brewing season, garage full of beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer - but I'm between batches for a couple of days so I could, potentially, if I am sufficiently organised. SuperLex looks great (though I must admit I have no idea why he's dressed like that, I'm still stuck somewhere in the middle of the New52 stuff! Is he an out-and-out hero type now, or is it just another attempt to make people think he is?)
When you say Wonder Woman, is that the new horse version? I vote that next if so, and not just because I'm interested to see if the sculpt actually supports its own weight, I've had trouble with metal horses drooping in the past.
Theophony wrote:Zombies/survivors and then the bus. Bus can be used as terrain.
Okeydoke boss
And so, continued with Studio Miniatures stuff
Debated leaving Rick's hand off, but I'm not *that* dark It is rather nice to have alternate versions of him, Carl and Lori to do different stat cards for. Ash and Elvis are an added fun bonus
Also, enlisted the older spawn to do some priming and drybrushing
Slave labour is excellent indeed. He has some survivors he has built and wants to paint, so set him to work on these as part of it also got him to tidy up the primer on the bus.

He is indeed a legit hero... sorta No spoilers though, just go read. Current Superman and Action Comics are superb.
It is indeed the metal horse version, and so some step by step pics :
Here's the components. Tactical rocks at hoof/tab to distribute weight.
Other half of the horse attached. More tactical hoof weight distribution.
And with torso. Very well balanced model, thus far.
Speaking of balance, I started Dr Fate . The model has massive cape, and the base is an Ankh that his feet balance on. That. Will. Not. Work.
:O
Clearly, I was mistaken. I still pinned it, but quite remarkable nonetheless.
Gitsplitta wrote:Sorry graven, that was an autocorrect error from my phone. I meant "dirtying" them up a little bit. Maybe just and the cuffs, seat or knees.
Ah! Yeah, worth some grubby detailing. I'll get on that.
Played the Days Gone Bye expansion with the boys today.
Wow, so very good. Challenging, fun, and with a great narrative flow. I had my concerns because we don't have all the character booster packs but we just followed the points based variations where necessary.
First scenario is to break into the police station. Really tense, loved it. Rick got bitten straight away but they still made it. The expansion introduces Repair and Smash rules, which add a level of complexity without interfering with the flow or enjoyment (still perfectly accessible to the 7 year old).
We also played doing a sprint into Atlanta on a supply run that used the Gory Clothing rules (walkers don't react to you immediately ). The absolute fear in the kids' eyes every time we drew an event card in case it was a thunderstorm (suddenly, you're in clean clothes and surrounded by walkers) was a joy Good times So yeah highly recommend this expansion!
And put together most of this excellent 3D printed donut shop from Z1 Designs
15mm version of the sign as a bonus for scatter elsewhere in city
Good to see that WW doesn't tip or droop, I was concerned about the weight but it seems they've worked round it (unlike Fate... ouch, that looks precarious!). Might have to get that WW after all...
Nice work, Graven'. Yeah, the "slaves" are just doing the basecoats and primer work... I think we know where the improvement in "your" painting has come from...
Paradigm wrote:Good to see that WW doesn't tip or droop, I was concerned about the weight but it seems they've worked round it (unlike Fate... ouch, that looks precarious!). Might have to get that WW after all...
Good lad I have been thinking about the base, might have to go barbed wire and trench tops etc.

Yorkright wrote: All your DC stuff looks good, but I have to give you kudos for making the donut shop. Would love to see a battle report once you've finished.
For DCU? Yeah, I need to get one done actually, properly using my terrain all set up.
On we go, building, filling bases etc. Not sure what to do with Martian Manhunter's base. I'm tempted to have him phasing through something, but his pose is very static. Cracked red martian soil? Another possibility is to do something totally different and do it as a star field maybe? But I'm really open to suggestions. Urban rubble is always valid.
Painting wise, bus, walkers and survivors are now at the front of the queue
Lastly, I'm doing a MAHOOSIVE giveaway on my Geeking Out blog over at bigcomicpage.com. Loads of amazing scenery, tokens, bits, minis.
Y'all should totally check it out here Bye for now, Graven

I understand that completely. I don't use my own name on Facebook, it's a menace if you work in the public sector.

( oh I second the battle report idea .. a real one not an overview you cheeky monkey! )
Quiet you! One will come, soon enough.
So, a little painting, a little building.
A lot of blue, as it happens: Note to self, focus camera on foreground Quick response team. Lethal cops for BMG.
Started blocking in colours on Kingdom Come Superman also: I'm going to have that spot colour problem again, I can tell...
Not pictured, also, blues on zombie/survivor denims.
And just about finished building Wonder Woman (need to GS horse cracks ) and went with a ruined street look for the base: Enjoyed making barbed wire, very easy, going to be doing that again I'll wager
Also - 10,000th post. Blimey. Officially no longer just a Fixture of Dakka Cheers for sticking around, Graven.
Cheers matey, and just for you, not one but two batreps!
Yup, had a boys' day in the house, a morning of xwing and an afternoon learning DCU.
For the morning slot, my younger boy and I teamed up as Rebels, or rather the Resistance (him with Rey and Finn in the Falcon, me with Poe and BB8 in Poe's T70) Vs elder flying Bounty Hunting Scum (IG88-B in his Aggressor, a Z95 headhunter, and Manaroo & Dengar in a Jumpmaster).
There was an awful lot of fancy flying. All credit to the boys, they have really got a handle on those ships.
Me, on the other hand ? Got blown to pieces by bounty hunters chasing me round the board. Bloody Dengar. Not used to Poe at all, squandered chances, forgot to always keep a focus on him and that jumpmasters are crazy fast. Still, now the youngling knows how not to fly him, so it's all good, right? It was a very close game, my eldest looked to have the Falcon dead to rights but a rushed turn bumped both big ships into asteroids, equalling costly hull damage which led to a 2 turn takedown by the Force Awakens super team. He didn't quit, though, and that last, tiny Z95 ducked and wove its way around, getting the Falcon down to its last hull point before finally sliding into Rey's sights.
An excellent game, and the boys both now have lists that they want to keep using and tinker with, which to my mind shows proper engagement with a game. 2 1/2 hrs well spent.
The afternoon was set aside for DC.
Now I did think we might be pressed for time, but we played a game in an hour - and that's them never having played before :O honestly it's such an intuitive, logical game, it rather puts BMG (and many others) to shame.
Now granted we were playing a small game Aquaman & Supergirl (them) vs SuperLex and Catwoman, but still. I also learned valuable lessons: Catwoman is absolutely phenomenal, and is potentially auto-include for Villain lists (or any hero list with Batman, whom she can be run with) - very cheap, and a total nuisance. She came very close to taking out Supergirl (who threw her off a building, in fact).
Lex is pretty squishy - powerful but not great defences. Supergirl is a poor man's Super...man but still great, whereas Aquaman feels very pricey - yes, he can teleport between water terrain features (which he can create), but it's still very situational, and his attacks are very expensive to use - good, but expensive.
They loved it, naturally. Fast, fluffy and fun. Both keen to test the same supers, and expand further. I expect the future will be... batty.
Cheers for swinging by,
Graven

Also, this bi-month's Tabletop Gaming magazine comes with a card for Michonne for All Out War, so...
Those survivors from Cam are really proving their worth! Why buy when you can build, eh? Drilling tiny holes in tiny hands for tiny sharp brass less fun. Thinking a chain for the left hand? Still needs a scabard also. Thoughts?
Automatically Appended Next Post: They link to her base also. Need to add a pommel to the katana and a bit of detailing to the scabard but I'm happy to call her done. The way I look at it, I just saved myself £13

Yeah, Kid 1 is REALLY getting the taste for scum he's 10 in November so I think I'm going to get him Most Wanted. We've got Zs, Ys, firespray, and hwk-290 as well so there's plenty o'choice there for him. He likes the look of the starviper, I know it's about to get a boost too with the new Aces so that's a maybe.
Not got much more p&m done BUT got a great game of BMG last night. Small game, 200, testing the bones of 350 tournament list.
Took Arkham Knight penguin and his new goons against my pal's regular Penguin list. New Penguin is... different. More finesse, better board control (his Goad ability allows him to move an enemy 5cm, and he can give the ability to a goon too) but less damage output. New goons are quicker, though more costly.
It went well. Very well. He's not better per se but he suits my style of play (devious)
Setup was a plunder mission, not ideal for how I planned to run the list but a better test because of that.
Turn 1 - some weak setup left me with the limited run lines, so had to juggle a bit but still made it fair way into the board. Got Penguin in the sewers, which would usually be used to get him quickly to the back of the board but here was for another reason entirely... Fun with the filters
Halfway through - T3 Took a big gamble and really exposed Big A, my hard as nails lieutenant. He just survived an assault rifle, and drew a lot of goons out, allowing the rest of my guys to start picking the enemy crew apart.
Now AK Penguin has pickpocket, which allows you take stuff from KO'd enemies - popped out the sewer, scored a shotgun and used it to take down his doppavpelganger
Endgame: got to sit on Ammo and feel smug.
Great game with a very gracious opponent, all in all.
Got a great review package from Multiverse. Hydrants and Phone Booths, 2 sets of super computers (1 for me, 1 for giveaway), and a set of their modular platforms. Goodies ahoy!

Good day to end the holidays. Played a tricky walking dead scenario with the boys, which we got through with some careful teamwork, using characters they had designed and started painting. On the other hand, I managed to shut the car boot on my head so got a cracking gash. bit of an extreme way to try to avoid work but never mind eh? Hey ho,

So, a couple of mighty packages awaiting me on my return home from first day back at work, one from Multiverse Gaming terrain and one from Red Beam designs.
First up, Red Beam:
The tokens are in the excellent thick acrylic you'd expect from Red Beam, and definitely enhance the play experience.
I like having tokens for being prone. Call me fussy, but I just don't like putting models on their sides. Also, if - Shock Horror - you were using alternate metal figures from another supplier (as a custom character, of course...) then you definitely don't want to risk chipping the paint. The rulers are nifty, allowing precise measurements with being cut to base size and skinny profile.
In addition, they've put together a rather nice play tray for organising your cards, available in MDF or acrylic.
A caveat here: if, like me, you've sleeved your cards in UltraPro mini sleeves (beloved of Xwing players), they are fractionally longer than the spaces, as you can see from the pic. It's not necessarily a bad thing - makes them very easy to pick up if you need to discard/use an item - but won't be to everyone's taste.
And what would Walking Dead be without a killzone, I ask you? One arm short of a Zombie, that's what.
I love this variant killzone token, really Handy (sorrynotsorry), and there is a ruler with base cutout variant also.
So there you go, affordable, stylish extras that are well worth a look.
I also got some really nice terrain elements from Multiverse, but I need to build them first.
I did however, make some progress on Diggle.
And a start on the big blue, Superman (Kingdom Come variant )
Need to do the skin and hair. Pretty happy with reds and blues. It's similar to how I did Lex but top layers were done with vj model airs also. Very thin, yet relatively viscous (sorry if that sounds contradictory) - very nice indeed to use.
Some other odds and ends. Survivors for walking dead:
The two up on the 60mm base are my eldest attempting his first proper minis, built and painted. He's very excited
Working on the Quick Response. Dribs and drabs. Camo wash on the body armour next.
And the Prison Bus is starting to take shape also (and, yes, that is classic Lex in the background - no superheroics here).
Merily we roll along,
Cheers,
Graven

So much goodness in the week I was away. The cloak on Supy there is just outstanding. Clear variation in tones that blend together beautifully. Bravo graven, bravo!
Fantastic Superman. That cloak..wow. Can't believe how time is flying by. Tons of brilliant work this summer, hope you can keep the momentum back at school. Hope your head feels better soon.
Yorkright wrote: Supes is looking super, how big is the figure compared to 40k?
Cheers. Here you go Believe it or not, that's the only 40k figure I could easily lay my hands on. I just have none any more, not even bits. Which is actually pretty annoying but still. The cycle of geek.
Theophony wrote:Are those the really angry eyes that he uses to lobotomise wrongdoers?
Cape is fantastic, really great blending.
Darn tootin' Thanks matey.
Camkierhi wrote:Fantastic Superman. That cloak..wow. Can't believe how time is flying by. Tons of brilliant work this summer, hope you can keep the momentum back at school. Hope your head feels better soon.
Thanks, and it wasn't like I damaged anything important like my brush hand... So here is a finished/better pic of Supes. Not sure it does justice to the cape but you've all seen that already I am rather pleased with him, all in all. Not 100% sure about the red eyes but I'll stick with them I think.
Next up from KM is the QRT (still), Lex and the batpod. Plus survivors and walkers and that from TWD
That finish to the red cloak would work really well on a Spawn miniature (don't know if one exists), really gives the cloak a life of it's own.
Well, not an official one, but I see what you mean. And many thanks!
Not had much hobby time, just getting back into the swing of things at work, but have decent classes including very peppy senior Media class which I'm reallllllllly stoked for. It's great when an afternoon can be usefully spent watching the opening scenes to Lost, Breaking Bad, Daredevil, The Newsroom, Rick& Morty, Lucifer, Orphan Black, Stranger Things and The Wire I love my job sometimes
Still, making progress on Lex. Taking my time, lots of thin layers. Unusually for me, I decided to document the process step at a time.
Excited about 2nd edition Batman, and the move to resin minis. Streamlined rules and easier conversions? I'm in.
Happily, a friend who is working at GenCon has picked me up the exclusive Batmite promo also, which is awesomesauce. I'm not a huge fan of the character, but my kids are, and he's beyond crazy good in both BMG (though as a Legend not legal outside of friendly play) and DCUMG (Danger, potential game-breaking promo alert )
Still got multiverse scenics to do...

Finally getting there with the Quick Response Team:
For grunts, they have taken me ridiculously long :/ not sure I've quite sorted the new lighting setup but still.
So after layer after layer, here he is, humanity's only hope: Lex Luthor!
Pretty pleased tbh. Done the osl with washes rather than drybrushing for a change. I think I like it.
Hopefully, a quiet day tomorrow so I can build some stuff. I'm going to wreck the other booth if possible.

Next up is Lex's troopers, as I'm quite taken with running him. Colour/progress test:
from R-L: single layer of waywatcher, single layer + test of VJ violet (thinned), 2 layers of waywatcher. I think I'm just going to do the green with washes etc, seems to be working? Thoughts?
Thanks once again fro all the support gang. I've unlocked voting on them, if your so minded later

Believe it or not that's the right answer I'm thinking that green on right with purple in middle. Meant to ask, what about middle guy's power blade, electric blue. More generally, eyes will be yellow, btw.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Next layer on. Also yellow blocked in also and blue added to power weapon. I've added greenshade to the rib area, joints etc. Wondering whether to go with that as the general green and darken these further. Hmm. Thoughts?
Did the purple last night.
Wondering about either the head or chest plate in purple?
And maybe do something with the spine?
In other news, picked up the Harley crew goons (don't care about the Harley, I have various and am not that fussy nor do I play competitively) and Rick Flag from a mate for some terrain that I'll never get round to building. So I'm actually almost at the point of having ALL THE TOYS - well nearly I have almost nothing left on my back catalogue wishlist apart from Talia now. Good times!
Cheers

Again great work! you can achieve amazing results with predominately washes, some of the secrets are to get your main overall level of colour on then wash the recesses and around details with a darker wash and use actual paint to add a highlight in areas and you'll be amazed! :-) these guys do look pretty damn solid as they are!
The chest may be too much purple, I'm seeing them as green with purple bits. With the chest in purple they will be green AND purple. A subtle difference. I'd start with just the face in purple and see how it goes? Or if you do want them more green and purple then the chest would do that.

And so...
Just purple at the chest's lower section. I'm quite happy with that, I think. So, once I ramp the yellow eyes and lights, I think that's them. POSSibly modify the spine slightly, a bit of glow?
Haven't been here in a bit myself. Lex is looking spot on, the osl glow is perfect, and he has a bit of the Godfather look to him. Legionaires look good too, can we get a group shot of them all together?
Cheers! Starting to fix my lighting rig also helps though

Thank you kindly sir, and welcome back!

Tis the nature of dakka Many thanks, and, of course!
And they themselves:
Okay so maybe I haven't quite got my lighting rig sorted, but much better. New phone's camera is pretty decent also. Frighteningly, these are voteable on in the gallery...
And finally got on with some scatter terrain: Multiverse kit, decided to wreck one booth because, srsly? Booths do not stay undamaged. Also I hope will look good for Street Wars NYC, so I might throw some 70s style tags on there. Once they're built I'll add "glass" to both the undamaged and the wrecked one.
I feel like I should do something for the LOER contest at the moment, but it's just not grabbing me and if I'm being honest I'm enjoying working on developing my painting style. I've got Martian Manhunter, Dr Fate, Wonder Woman and the Batpod to do (I have actually started on the blending of the black cape for that, but no pics yet) and I think that I may just have to shirk my LOER duties this time. Oh, the guilt
Of course knowing me I'll actually just do something random, like make a Talia al ghul from bits
Thanks dude. Means a lot. Trying to push myself a little more with each. Debating whether to try to blend Dr Fate's yellow cape up from green. Or, to be really out there, from purple.
I'd really like to see you try a new version of one of the Mentor Legion marines from the first couple pages. Like Gits said, you've improved a lot in those 7 years(!!!).
Yorkright wrote: Love that group photo of Lex and his goons, a nice contrast of old school mixed with high tech.
Cheers Buddy I know what you mean, I still have a heavy trooper to do (waiting for replacement guns, as his were missing) and might, as I say, make a LexCorp Talia as I'm not totally sold on the model and reckon I could easily make one.
whalemusic360 wrote:I'd really like to see you try a new version of one of the Mentor Legion marines from the first couple pages. Like Gits said, you've improved a lot in those 7 years(!!!).
Thanks that would require me to still have marine bits though literally got one guy left, and even he is missing an arm
I got a Bat Mite ....but he has no legs . I sent a email to figure out how to get a replacement. He just seemed like a fun fig to add to my collection and would be a cool crazy nutter for Necromunda. Loving the Lex corps armor guys .

I think unfortunately you'll struggle to get a replacement, KM don't have any left at all AFAIK. Be great for a fanboy civilian!
The irony is that in the new edition LexCorp are getting merged with crime, two face and black mask, none of which I play, so their appeal is a bit limited - however they're fantastic in DCUMG for filling odd points gaps so that's where they'll likely be used.
youwashock wrote:Lex and his flunkies look ready to kill the alien. Nicely done.
Yup. I plan on hunting Kryptonians with them. Zod et al are in for a shock
Gitsplitta wrote:Go for the gusto graven!
If you say so chief !
Yeah, so, I built stuff:
Pose is modelled on the comic Talia for BMG. She is a little shorter and stockier - 28mm rather than 32mm - and isn't quite right as a true substitute for the real thing (who's a sidekick for Lex) but fine if I ever want a proxy. But the point of the exercise was to practice GS hair - the original head had a bob, so wanted to try and make it longer and flow. She'll be useful as a generic spy type or survivor also.
Speaking of survivors:
May the odds ever be in her favour!
Not sure whether to GS her a pony tail. Just fancied doing an archer survivor and this happened.
Built another multiverse thing, a supercomputer:
Very nice build, quick and easy. Time and again, Multiverse have the best MDF instructions out there.
I reckon my leather clad super spy chick (not-Talia) would go well with it, maybe I should start playing 7TV
And accessorised the phone booth:
A pair of heels, a police baton, a sack (which may have a head on it, haven't decided yet) and some wire for the phone.
As well as graffiti and posters, I'm considering trying something totally new on this. I've been pondering for a while how to get convincing peeling, flaking rust. Crackle media etc never seem to really do it for me, but I wonder about layering paper painted in layers and torn away. Could be time consuming, but interesting. Thoughts?
Eyes on the prize - only 4 DC miniatures to paint! Well, apart from the 3 unbuilt thugs and Rick Flag
layered paper = peeling paint/rust sounds interesting. Worth a try, you may come up with a perfect solution.
I'd say use the thinnest paper you can find; layers of paint on this scale are thin...
Great work, phone booth looks interesting, glad we don't have smellavision, by the time you are finished, if it looks like the way I think you are going, it would smell bad, they always do.
Great work on the figures, hair is looking good.
Interesting to see where you go with the rust, have had some success with separating card with moisture.

Cheers. Well it'll be an ongoing experiment. I just think it has potential.
Camkierhi wrote:Great work, phone booth looks interesting, glad we don't have smellavision, by the time you are finished, if it looks like the way I think you are going, it would smell bad, they always do.
Great work on the figures, hair is looking good.
Interesting to see where you go with the rust, have had some success with separating card with moisture.
Ooh, linky? And thanks still debating what body part to have hanging out the bag.
Meanwhile, started Harley Quinn's thugs.
Appalling mould lines. Really shocking. I've only done Bragg's arm so far, repositioned to be putting some punk out of his misery.
However, the puzzle is the colour scheme. They were my original choice for mime goons but actually the diamonds really interfere with that idea. So do I go predominantly black and red? Decisions, decisions.
Meanwhile, the Facebook pages for BMG have gone into total meltdown. I'm hiding
Thoughts?
Colour me interested. To add to the "possibles" list, maybe half peeled masking fluid, or even a thin layer of PVA glue, are fully lifted on the edges only after dry?
Phone booth (haven't seen a real one in ages, BTW) is looking great!
Lex turned out very well. And to echo what Nerdfest said, do some highlights with paint, especially the final ones that are white/near-white. Ands some nice definition and contrast, it does.
Try crepe paper? I have no clue what y'all call it in the UK.
Yorkright wrote:Green stuff, computers and telephone booth, oh my! Very prolific as of late. Her hair looks good and I think a pony tail would be nice addition.
Thanks, I'm leaning that way too.

Cheers! I want to do a couple of free standing ones also, very 70s. Nice suggestion, another variation I considered is super glue onto pva (discussed for wrinkly slime on Yorkright's blog).

Ta. Will do. I might try to do that on the heavy trooper then go back and do the rest if I like it. Crepe paper was actually my original idea for this, yeah. Just going to experiment.

So I found myself gazing on the shelf of shame in despair:
And decided something must be done!
So, started the batpod:
Happy with the cloak. Photos are pretty accurate to how it looks in RL. Early days for the rest. Looking at stills from the movie, really surprised how muddy the tires are. Still, provides some colour contrast (any colour good here).
I have another box coming from KM, and am getting invaded by Camkierhi on Thursday for coffee and terrain - busy days ahead!
Later peeps

I have been patiently waiting for the batpod to make another appearance. Your shelf is not to bad, my painting area is at the kitchen counter... much to my wifes chagrin.

Yeah I get a row for the R2D2 cookie jar on our counter. I only get away with that because I am cook and tea maker. I too am pleased that batpod has returned

Oh, I used to have a garage of shame. I've just scaled things back a bit.
Well it's been quite the week.
I got promoted within the work I do for the exam board, so am now King Of Media (well not quite, but still). It's a little bit of extra money, but more than that it's helping shape the evolution and delivery of a subject I love, whilst still being a regular day to day teacher. Much more exciting is wife got a promotion at work to be Queen of the laboratory (well, Technical Manager) which is testament to her hard work - really awesome to see her appreciated. I shall settle for being emasculated by her superior earning power ...
Generally feeling pretty positive. More sleep would help, tiny still being a menace, but hey ho.
Anyway, where was I?
Oh, right, MODELS.
Challenging to photograph colour accurately.
Batpod. The wheels are getting something new, a sort of reverse-highlight, black drybrushed over the brown to create the effect of muddy treads.
Bat himself has had a couple of black washes, whilst highlights have begun on the bike and base.
Hopefully getting a maildrop later. I am cautiously excited about 2nd ed batman, some good streamlining, sensible card layout at last and only one rule change so far I'm not keen on, but don't know when I'll get my hands on the new-new stuff.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hey ho. Need to get some primer on stuff. Got the other 4 Harley goons to do and Trinity which I've picked up from a mate.

Thanks, l'll freely admit I was skeptical! Likewise wasn't sure about the highlights on the bike but pretty happy with them still to ramp the osl from the headlights a bit.

Meanwhile, finished batpod:
I have it on good advice to leave it at that: had the rare pleasure of a visit from Camkierhi today (he lives several hours away at the other end of Scotland). We chewed the cud and generally discussed the joy of dakka. I also inherited a number of Cam's terrain projects:
excellent fellow that he is.
One of the things we discussed is how dakka is an outlet and safe space. It really is astonishingly friendly (well, our little p&m corner, anyway) and supportive. Real virtual friends have been made across the globe. Quite extraordinary, actually, and genuinely therapeutic. Both of us mused on how dakka has helped through some very dark times. So, guys, for the awesome ride thus far, thanks.

Anyway, not getting suckered into Necromunda again, even if my =][= warband is the last 40k I own.
Nope.
Definitely not.
Got a Batmite promo from a friend who worked GenCon, very exciting, he's awfully cute. Also a bit good in DCUMG.
And with all this stuff to paint, of course I started on something else: Starfire.
Now I'm fairly indifferent to the character, but my kids watch Teen Titans Go (which I'm happy to admit is hilarious if deeply weird), so really want to play her and the others in DCUMG.
Trouble is the Starfire sculpt, though very dynamic, is pure 80s nerdporn:
Now I like the laydeez as much as the next fella but comic cheesecake is one of my pet peeves.
However, I do like the current redesigned Rebirth costume:
So, by the power of GreenStuff!
I'll go with that just now I think.
Other stuff? Got a U-wing. Just cos. They're not very good but they look cool and I don't have one. So repaint at some point.
Not actually getting much done. Little one is not sleeping well at all so basically nerdlife a bit on hold. Wife's out Saturday night so going to get some time with my boys, walk some dead, maybe get batman Harley Quinn to watch. Going to try to start a BMG campaign based on No Man's Land - wrote some rules, just to get my groove on.
I agree on the comic cheesecake artwork and your solution looks good.
I might actually be sitting out on Necromunda as well. It's just not screaming to me and I know it won't live up to the fun I had as a teen/20s playing it. Besides funds are trying to draw me elsewhere.
Hope the little one settles down to get more sleep. Is she teething?

I think he was referring to me talking about playing Necromunda in my teens and twenties twenty years ago.
I realise I forgot to post pics of these also:
So layering white on the prison bus (this resin DOES NOT WANT TO BE PAINTED ) and starting to paint my scrap-mdfATMs for urban scatter.
Bewbs. I would have painted the peek-a-boo part of the outfit the same as the rest of the outfit and called it a day... but then again, I'm not an old prude (and I'm lazy).
But seriously, love all of your conversion and painting work.
I agree with white buses in the states ususally associated with churches or scout troops. I can see myself needing the barred windows on my next scout trip, though.
Yeah, Just because the studio painted skin, does not mean you have to. Painting the mini in a bodysuit would have worked. It's what I would have done, but I'm really lazy about using the GS too.

Theophony wrote:White buses, era in the states anyways, are usually church buses. It works really well with that layered paint you have going on.
ATMs are looking good as well.
Cheers for info. Yeah, it's a tricky one this - for some reason, the prison bus in TWD is white, not black. Hence my colour choice.
Yorkright wrote: Liking the bus and ATM's. I am with Gitz on starfire bewbz.
I know in some ways it shouldn't bother me - she's an alien, different values blah blah blah, but I think also it reflects that I don't particularly like the 80s version of the character.

Yeah I've seen my kids' scout troop it's basically terrifying. They keep trying to get me to help out, because I'm a teacher, but I point out that's exactly why I'm not spending my spare time with children thanks for comments too. Yes I'm clearly an old stick in the mud

Udderly ridiculous That's actually what I did with Huntress, funnily enough, as I was going a more Spyral / Matron (new 52/Rebirth) look for her. A big part of it is simply being a DC fanboy. With the mini itself, the string bikini really left no wiggle room though - too much side bewb.
Now if they do a classic power girl, or Arissa Ra'ab, then I'm fine with them bewbs
Anyway...
Now, done, or time to add slaps and tags?
ATM's are spot on, bus is great, like the effect with the paint at the moment, if you wanted a more solid white try a solid base coat of beige or light grey, covers easier.
One of those ATM screens is begging for a BSOD. Easily done too. Print one out the right size, seal it using thick transparent packing tape, then cut to shape. I use Gorilla tape. Then glue it to the screen area. The tape gives it a nice glossy look, like a glass screen.

Hadn't thought of beige base, good tip. This bus is going to be pretty banged up though.

But it's just a harmless subsidiary... I don't know if they're a bit clean? Also I'm not 100% on the black writing. It's a bit scrappy, might paint over it and just leave the Lex logo.

Lol genius! If nothing else, one is going to get squiggly doom.
As I'm on a terrain kick, and I want to test my peeling flaking paper theory...
Ready for crêpe paper layers!
And because the boys were hassling me, I stuck a flesh layer on the walker horde:
I'm convinced the punk one is based on Viv from the Young Ones (classic 80s anarchic comedy show) so is getting treated as such. Most of these are "real" mantic walkers except shambling chained dude (sedition wars thing) and tennis mom and the front left chewing on a hunk of hunk (wargames factory bits). Really happy with the angle of her arm (it's a bowstring/arrow arm). Omnomnom.
Night in with the kids, wife out so king of Tokyo followed by Batman & Harley.
Good times Cheers

A day of bits and pieces. Got my fire hydrants done:
Bit more on the phone booths:
And, unfortunately, Cam gave me an idea:
I had been pondering how best to shade the thing. I think this might work rather well.
Decided that the walker who reminded me of Vivian needed his trademark side spikes also:
Yay green (orange?) stuff.
And with our bmg campaign about to start next week, and given that I've decided to run Harley Quinn as my boss (clearly I am easily swayed by the movies ), figured she could do with a touch up (fnar). I don't really do repaints, and I chickened out of going the whole hog, but still.
Here's the original:
Her skin (and her hair to an extant) was especially disappointing so did the patented nerdfest violet wash method, and touched it up with flayed one flesh.
Also redid the reds with some thin VJ gore and added a submachine gun, so I can run her as AK Harley (which I don't have the model for, but this of close enough):
I think I'm pretty happy with that, though I may revisit further.
Theophony wrote:Touching up Harley might get you whacked by Mr. J, but looks like you left her looking better than before, and more versatile too.
That is a very real risk, it's true she's a cracker for sure.

And here's the test of the booth, using tissue paper painted pva is still wet:
The danger of course is brush destruction, but I'm generally very pleased. Your thoughts?
Love the look of it , it doesn't look like glass to me, but looks more like people had stuck their yard sale signs and flyers to it and then the years and weather tore them up, which would still be a viable covering for the phone booth.
Dr H wrote:Good job on Viv'.

Well I had a fantastic game of Batman on Tuesday, starting our new No Man's Land campaign. Whilst 2 of the other players (Two-Face and Green Arrow) were heading straight for the same map square, myself (Joker - well, Harley) and the Penguin player headed for separateTurf, so settled for a Scrap (you declare your moves in secret, but can always just have a fight with another player - or folk outside the campaign for that mattter - to gain resources).
Frustratingly, my phone died, so I didn't get many pics :(
Scenario was ambush, and with fewer models that meant it was me stuck in the middle, surrounded - a very, very nasty scenario indeed, requiring very careful placement. I spread myself across the board so as not to present a single target, and decided to pick off targets in different ways to usual (as a swarm just was a recipe for death).
So, my fast axe guys, Asker and August, with Mr hammer, all jumped on Emperor Penguin (Elite henchman with a scary electroshock baton - I use him all the time so I know he's a priority target), debuffing and reducing him to a bloody smear on the pavement before he could even react.
Equally, as my opponent was using Hush, I decided to break all the rules and common sense and send Harley off on her own (yeah, well, she's crazy). Having nabbed a titan dose from my Titan Hotdog stand, she juiced up, walloped him with her bat and then finished him off with her SMG the following turn. Essentially, as you may have figured, he was using my own Penguin list against me, a good strategy in theory but took the risk of me knowing how to do prioritise targets. Having avoided, for example, his shotgun guy for most of the game, the Master of Ceremonies giggled his way via grapple gun to axe him in the face also (I like axe, and Joker has access - ax-ess? - ex-cess? - to more than any one else).
Meanwhile, the fast part of the crew charged after Penguin, who they managed to chase down (eventually) and likewise wipe out.
All in all, a good if brutal game. My opponent made the mistake of chaining his activations too much, which is normally a good idea if you can (especially in a Penguin gang, as it grants bonus movement) but meant I could watch his strategy and plan accordingly. Also, I knew his crew inside out, so could anticipate most things he'd try. But we still had fun, and managed a full game of BMG in under 2 hrs, which has to be a record. It also gave us a chance to reassess some elements of the campaign system, though mostly that seems to be working ok (jsust needed to amend the rules for first aid between games).
Not much P&M done, but at least I can show a lovely thing from Camkierhi:
Yup, modular Gotham sewers I'm a lucky guy. I'm going to make a twelfth tile that's some kind of undergorund temple, from a grassy tile he also provided.
And I have at least got the Phone Booths finished:
Really enjoyed doing these, and experimenting with new techniques.
What's next on the painting desk? Walkers, I think. Maybe a U-Wing, for variety. But lots of supers to do, too.
dsteingass wrote:Loving how you just keep adding to what is already a great game table! Does the subject mater motivate you more or less than other game systems?
Thanks man. Um, hadn't really thought about it. Probably, I guess. It's important to me to have a board that looks the part and DCUMG is all about scatter terrain, so I need to have plenty for me and the kids to throw about. Plus as the time goes on, some things end up feeling redundant - I really don't need 2 Garden of Morr crypts, for example - so they get moved on. I am planning on doing a full board of my stuff though, tentatively for a game on last Tuesday of the month.

Mail/Post Boxes. Trash cans, Oil drum fire place for the people of the street. Can and bucket band for a street corner, (don't have to have people but could.) Old mattress or a fridge, (always one of those loitering around ).

Thanks, technically they ARE your shoes or at least provided by you. Fridge has a corpse in a bin bag in it. My kids were confused, and decided it was a blueberry. Bless. Definitely definitely definitely want to add mail boxes. Funnily enough, Fire Drums are now an objective in BMG 2nd,so...
My aim is, I think, to nab a cheap Halloween flickering tea light and stick it in there. The other thing is a loot objective for Joker, a present from his lil Harley. More GS work to come on that on the ribbons.
Speaking of 2nd ed, ACE chemicals vats leaking poison is now a thing too, as are LexCorp boxes, medical supplies and contraband, so...
On the right hand end is a real titan container. Because mine originally said ACE on them, I repainted it with the kanji from Titan Serum vials from Attack on Titan. As you do.
I was asked to do a better pic of my batpod for a friend:
And another request, this time from a guy I know for some gravestones:

I've replied in your blog, though I realise I didn't tackle leather in that - principle is the same, using brown, shading with purple / nightshade. However, I'm going to use your enquiry as impetus to determine what I do next: Dr Fate and Martian Manhunter.
A side note - for all their capey goodness, I'm not going to be painting the Crime Syndicate: they're going to my mate who's a former gw staff painter (wait till you see the Doomsday he's done). Anyway, had a game last night, wrote down my thoughts.
This was written whilst stuck holding a baby that won't allow herself to be put down in the middle of the night. So you get to listen to me ramble...
Had my first game of second edition. The main thing is that it's much, much faster, a combination of new non-randomised movement and a better organized and searchable pdf rulebook.
However, I'm not sure I enjoyed it very much. We set up a tight board with a mix of our terrain. I was playing my Harley Quinn list (axes, axes, axes) against green arrow and cops - and just obliterated them. It was just one of those games that was too one-sided to really enjoy. My opponent didn't have fun, so I didn't have fun. An already fast crew really benefits from the new movement rules. The gap between them there used to be Oliver Queen. I do like the new rules (mostly). Not sold on the new Contraband objective - Titan is just better. My biggest fear was sewers turning into teleporters but that seems to have been less the case than anticipated. Just one of those games, I guess.
As for p&m, started this on a wonder-whim: Yup, not even the one I spent all that time building, and certainly not something which I had on my to-do list. Anyway, not bad to start. I feel the colours are quite flat and the rudimentary attempts at NMM need a lot of work still. Also, decided I don't like the snow on the base. All my Penguin stuff is snowy, but it just looks wrong here.
My desk is still covered in walkers, but I have a drawer full of goons (I got the rest of Harley's goons, and "accidentally" got Riddler's 60s style goons in a trade), plus BvS Batman and Superman (primed but not based). What else, built and primed? Sigh: Wonder Woman (mounted) Harley starter Goons Dr Fate Martian Manhunter Rick Flag Starfire
WW is looking badass already. Shade the skin a little, highlight the armour a bit more and pick out the brightest points in the NMM with white/off-white you're most of the way there!
I think she looks great so far, a few more steps and your golden. Snow base for a woman from a tropical island seems wrong though. Maybe that's where your having trouble with it.
Sorry to hear about your game graven. They happen unfortunately. Give it a few more tries with varying crews and scenarios and hopefully things will balance out.

Yeah, I sat with him, and made him a new list. Unfortunately, it's absolutely brutal Basically, he now has a Special Forces team (Rick Flag et al) rather than Arrow and beat cops. It's monstrous and will destroy me
Only thing I'll be picky about is the NMM, the highlights are bang on but a couple of places look like they could do with a bit more of an extreme shadow opposite the brightest points. The sword arm bracer, the indents in the knee plates, the very bottom of the shield. Just ramp up the contrast a little further and you're golden (or at least, using browns, yellows and whites to simulate a golden effect! Woo, paint nerd jokes! )

mate, I really appreciate the feedback and pickiness. I'm not used to NMM and this is really helpful. It's the only way I'll improve.

Thanks mate. Blame nerdfest, it's using purple wash.

I'd love to see your take on Martian Manhunter. I haven't even seen the model though.
As for scatter terrain, fruit cart and newspaper stand. Ripped-up section of road or sidewalk. You could play on some of the trophies from the Batcave. Most would be too small, but there is the Giant Penny, Jason Todd's costume on display, the Giant Joker card, and a Robot T-Rex.
I do like the way Gal Gadot-Wonder woman turned out... even with the combat heels. A few strong near white highlights to give the shield and other parts a metallic look, as Paradigm suggested, would do wonders for the mini.
Sorry for the general quiet. Belfast was great but tiny person came down with Hand foot and mouth, so alternately crabbit and very, very awake at 4am (still, there's always Sesame Street parodies on YouTube to keep us both happy).

Yup. Never going to use her BMG though. Need to force myself to use her DCU, I prefer the mounted one in general but this one is cheaper. And, you know, painted.

I do need to do those actually. Got distracted.
Played another game of BMG2e last night, running my high speed Harley crew (sorry, no pics ) against an alternative Arrow crew for my mate who had such a negative experience previously. I gave him some advice (some of which he took, some of which he ignored) - and I crushed him. Now, I maintain that had he listened to my (admittedly slightly counter-intuitive) tactical advice he'd have done better; Arrow is a finesse crew and you need to use a couple of fairly complex rules to optimise (small crew to pass tactically, using Scheming [Felicity, essentially, as an upgrade to Oliver] to study your opponent's action counter placement), neither of which he incorporated. But, it doesn't help that I'm running a fairly streamlined, synergistic crew that I know very well, am generally more experienced, and there is a degree of power creep from the early stuff like basic cops (although, again, I did point this out to him, and tried to get him to change his build accordingly). It's a very tricky one as you don't want to put off folk when you're trying to get a scene up and running! Seriously considering switching out Harley for some other crew, as it is of limited fun in that situaiton.
What little painting I have got done hasn't been for me. I did up Studio Miniatures Michonne and Walkers for a horror-loving colleague who has made me loads of parody posters for my classroom:
And started repainting Reverse Flash (TV) for another of my BMG buddies. He was a blob of Yellow and Black; I offered to strip him but my friend just wanted a touch up. I may have done slightly more than was asked:
Pretty happy with how it's going. Lovely model, don't own one myself, so nice to see it in the flesh. Also, he's got a lot better in BMG2e (speedsters, or at least speed force masters, can use speed tokens for regular actions now, which is very potent), so may pick one up at some point.
Martian Manhunter has been prepped and cleaned; he's next, promise!
Gitsplitta wrote:I really like the transition in color from the boots through the lower legs. Nicely done.
Cheers. Vallejo smoke blended with Agrax earthshade and thinned out at the top of legs and forearms.
dsteingass wrote:Love that Michonne! WW looks great too!
Cheers, bit more comicy (well) than my usual TWD, especially the eyes. I do love that WW model.
Theophony wrote:Reverse flash uniform looks great. Very nice highlighting effects.
Feeling any better about the batman game yet?
Thanks, I really do need to get myself one Yes, mostly. I love how much faster the game is to play: around 1 1/2-2 hrs rather than 3-4 hrs. It does help that the rulebook is logical, searchable in pdf form, and generally less nebulous. There are some "good" fluffy rules that are gone - notably, multiple saves for each piece of intervening terrain in ranged combat, which has the odd adjunct of you can now shoot into melee - but it is much more streamlined. I'm stil not 100% sure but my gut instinct that melee would be more deadly (or at least, happen more quickly) seems to be proven correct. Gun heavy crews are still good, but things seem more balanced. Whether that has now gone too far the other way (vid. my Axe-tastic Harley crew) remains to be seen.
So, stuff.
Annoyingly, I found the bases I'd bought aaaaaaages ago for the batpod:
Never mind. Further annoyance is I think I've wrecked the wiring on my LED for barrel; hopefully, halloween will provide. I'm going to make a non-led, OSLy one too, I've decided.
Took all your advice on wonder woman's nmm:
It was so tempting not to add/potentially ruin, but very pleased - used VJ wolf grey to do it.
Thanks for all the advice. Think I'm ready to call her done.
Began pre shade on Martian Manhunter:
The plan is to start him all in a deep purple, wet blending cloak to indigo and clothing to mid blue. The purple will also act as a good base for the red straps and deep shade for the green skin.
And, while I was doing him, I started some other stuff:
Rick Flag, Dr Fate, a Harley Goon, and mounted Wonder Woman.
The paint scheme for these goons is bothering me. The sculpts were what inspired me to go down the mime route with my main joker crew. The official scheme is black with red diamonds. I don't know whether stripey mime will work; I could just go black and red. My hoodie thugs for Ledger are in colourful tops, after all. Any thoughts, gratefully received!
Won't get much done this weekend, Dad's birthday so away at theirs, eating too much and playing board games with the kids. Wife's off out Sunday night once we get back (la-de-da!) so might get to tackle MM then.
Yep, nailed the NMM on Wonder Woman! Putting on those last extreme highlights is always daunting, but so often it's the thing that really sells the effect. Can't wait to see the mounted version!
That extra white layer REALLY hit the mark. Another step towards greatness. The blood on the ground is from some lucky fellow to get beat up by such a pretty woman.

A Mr Cameron...
Dr H wrote:Great job on WW. Looks lovely. Nice effort on NMM. Keep at it.
Cheers mucker.
Right so I finally got started on Martian Manhunter:
Yes, very purple, isn't he? Well, violet.
It looks alarming. Then, we start blending blues and blocking in others
Blues on uniform are a shade lighter than cloak for contrast.
And, against a black background
The skin and red have had no shading, they're just over the purple. No ink washes yet on anything, that's next.
And by the same method, replacing the violet with royal purple here's Dr Fate
His blue on his fabric needs to be a further shade lighter. Equally, the inside of his cloak is going to go much darker. Traditionally, his cloak is yellow inside and out but there's a phenomenal illustration in the next issue of Green Arrow (joy of reviewing comics ) where the inside is a night sky / star field. So that's going to be a thing.
Great weekend. Ate too much. Drank some. Dad built lego with kids.
J'onn is looking great! Nice strong colours (thanks to that first coat of purple, I assume). Same for the good Doctor, looking forward to seeing him. You're on your way to a totally awesome Justice League here.
Paradigm wrote:J'onn is looking great! Nice strong colours (thanks to that first coat of purple, I assume). Same for the good Doctor, looking forward to seeing him. You're on your way to a totally awesome Justice League here.
Yeah, the purple's worked a treat. JSA, not JLA Wife's out on Saturday night so me and the boys have got a game planned, them with the League (Superman, Supergirl, Aquaman, some others tbd) and me with villains (again, tbd). Had to cancel my game tonight (trying to sort Tiny's bedtime routine), so good to know I'll get to play at the weekend.
Theophony wrote:Both are looking great so far. will the symbol that Dr fate is standing on be OSL?
Cheers. Probably, aye. It's interesting that in the studio paintjob they've gone with green, rather than yellow as is customary, as it would just be too damn much - so I'm takign that and running with it further.
Anyway, when I dream, I dream of Mars...
Generally happy tthough the highlights on his face make him a bit pouty.
And more work on the Dr:
Although it's by no means there yet, I'm glad I'm doing the starfield for his cloak lining. As it is the contrast of yellow cloth and yellow metal is going to be a nightmare. Still, you can see how the cloak is progressing in the rear pic. I'll probably do his boots, helm and gauntlets along the lines of Diana's boots etc. Otherwise he looks like he's getting ready to do the washing up...
Looking good . Is the picture angl3 on Dr. Fate off, or is he twisted at the waist? Also his belt buckle seems really large.....like WWE large. Is that how it is in the comics also? I know that’s not on you as it’s the sculpt, but it almost looks like they made a girdle for him (one too many desserts for the good Dr.), take that off of him and he looks like Marvels the blob.
Liking what you are doing with the star field and the Ankh.

He is indeed. The original pose was all a bit I am DC Space Jesus, and not at all dynamic, so I have reposed him. But maybe not well and yeah, it really is that daft.
Yup.
Onwards:
Getting there. Can't say I'm finding him an especially enjoyable model to paint, cloak aside. Although I think I have bitten off more than I can chew with the star cloak.

Ever the supporter! Much appreciated!
Wife was out last night. That means pizza and geeking with the kids.
So a few pics, and thoughts, from a game of DCUMG with my boys: find the motherboxes, Dr Fate, Martian Manhunter, green arrow and Aquaman (them) Vs lex, 3 lex goons, Catwoman, Deadshot, and captain Boomerang (me).
We introduced a rule where, if a hydrant was destroyed, it left 2" of water - this made Aquaman potent, without about being excessively so, and I think we'll keep that house rule.
Other new house rule was that vehicles explode when thrown, doing an extra explosive/X dependent on their size. Interestingly, this made the kids more cautious about throwing stuff. Again, it works without being excessively complex or powerful.
In the end, the heroes managed to wrestle the motherboxes from LexCorp and win the day!
What we did find was with a BMG density of terrain, non-flying/climbing/jumping characters struggle a bit. Deadshot was particularly ineffectual!
New (classic) Boomerang, by comparison, was very interesting - the ricochet ability is a real nuisance. The lex goons are really good for the cost, and at some point that Lex isn't great in combat :/
On the kids' side, Dr Fate really was very potent - he's cheap for what he can do. Martian Manhunter rocks, phasing with his other abilities and strength is awesome. Green Arrow, who I thought would be pretty squishy, was astonishingly effective also. Great at the cheap end. And Aquaman was more balanced, the teleporting offsetting his general lack of mobility.
I really love this game, and the kids are all over it. Great fun!
Shot down the alleyway:
Showdown on the Roof!
Motherbox!
LexCorp assemble!
Heroes unleashed!
Cargo town
Other stuff I've been up to:
Bat-Mite's on the telly!
Very early WIP of the TV for shape, obviously.
Goonies! Well, goons, anyway.
Which is me 100% built!
Also got Flash (comic) and Kid Flash on the go, pics anon. Amusingly, there's a fair bit of flash on Flash, which I'll use as lightning sparks rather than clipping off.
One of my friends is really struggling with mental health issues at the moment. He's an ex eavy metal painter, and he's finding that getting back into painting helps a bit. So, he's doing some stuff for me:
Looks pretty nice. Need to base him obviously. For which I have a plan... A Super-plan Whilst I could do the stuff myself, I have plenty and it helps him. He's doing the Crime Syndicate of America (evil Earth-3 justice league) for me next. Of course, sneakily, the plan is to get him playing and out of the house he's asked me to order him some stuff too. I do worry I'm enabling him in some ways - he used to be manager of our flgs, after all, and it's a safe space - but, baby steps.
Yeah, it's very lovely isn't it? I saw the WIPs also, so it's a great reference piece. The fact that I'm getting some models pro painted for free ain't bad either Just the cape, fear not. And maybe a chest piece...
I would love to see a diorama with him smashing someone’s head in the car door. My favorite memory of the death of Superman series...besides him squishing a little bird ( I’m a sick man)
I'm resisting the urge to make "what a nice bell tower"-type comments. How is it holding up to regular use (structure and paint)? None of my things I keep get any use, so I don't know how they'd survive actually being used.
Nice Doomsday. Well done that man.
Paradigm wrote: ... You wouldn't be the kind of monster to put an actual dead Superman on the base, would you... would you?!
I would. I'm a bad person. I'd place it next to a model of Bane standing over the bat.

Yeah, it's very suspect, isn't it? ; I'm glad I did that, it was just on a whim that I went with various lovecraftian iconography on the ink shop.
Finally, I got a game with the sewer board!
Thanks, as always, to Camkierhi
Fun time tonight, we all floated down as Titan Joker faced off against AK Penguin run by my mate Steven.
His Reverse Flash caught the blunt end of Asker and Borgon (neurotoxic drugs are very potent in 2E, speedsters are still not fantastic), and my crew did a whole lot of slicing and dicing.
I'm not entirely convinced by Titan Joker yet but generally the speedy slice crew did well! Poor Big A...
Such a fun board to play on and folk were over checking it out all night.
Really stuck for how to base Flash/kid flash. Maybe newspapers swirling, some lightning burnt into the ground?
Thoughts?
Later,
Graven

Yes, hello Bat-Mite, reminding me I need to get on with your GS.
Speaking of which, Joker's loot counter is now done, and I'm making another barrel because LED experiment #1 failed.
I reckon a GS flame, maybe some wood sticking out, and osl?
And the observant amongst you will have noticed an unfinished Superman and a couple of Batmen in the background...

Oh, shush. Lovely to hear from you. How was your birthday?
Yup, a Cam original! I'm a lucky lad. The improvement in painting is mostly because of gitsplitta needling me there's so much talent on here - I've just been looking, listening, and learning what works for me.
Some GS work on various things.
Bit more work on Batmite's TV and the joker loot counter.
BvS based:
There will be ??? on them, just to continue the theme and break them up a bit also. Yes, rebirth batman in the background. Don't worry, he's armless
Based up the Studio Miniatures promo George A Romero zombie (Zombero?!), and more work on my fire barrel:
Started on the lightning streaks for Flash and Kid Flash:
Flash will obviously have bigger ones, kid flash is on a smoother base. Dunno, just felt right.
Oh, and Flash with flash on:
And a LexCorp heavy. He came without his guns - fed up waiting for KM customer service - and so debating gs covers (they are retractable in comics) or making some out of a couple of tau guns with flamer barrels.
And after about 7 very thin layers of model air...
Now to screw it up with writing, and more muck to hide the mistakes
gosh....how you´re even able to work with the minis is beyond me...i would marvel at the minis all day (see what i did there?)...

Something a bit different, doing some Z-95 Headhunters for my eldest's birthday. He likes Bounty Hunters, so we're getting him a couple of shiny new ships, but I managed to grab a couple of rebel Zs from a mate. Time for a repaint!
N'Dru Suhlak, space pirate. The boy's headhunter pilot of preference. This will stop him stealing my Rebel one. And the Nashta Pup, Bossk's personal shuttle. Because Vader wants them alive. Usable as a generic Z or the custom one if he sees fit.
Might try to sort him out with a couple of dial covers too.
Finished the bus. Stay back 50 ft - prisoners in transit!
As close as I could get it to the version in the show, albeit with the addition of the plough. Nice alternative to the Winnebago for broken down vehicle scenario too.
What's up next? Well, finally, I've started on my Walkers again. Busy weekend of family birthdays though and then off to Cumbria for a few days. Mostly, I plan on not driving, and everything that goes with that.
Mmm, beer.

Enjoy your weekend, mmm beer.
Yeah, the sewer rocks. It is indeed Rick, from the TWD:AOW starter set. Bat-Mite is awesomesauce. He's preposterously good in BMG but he has the Legend rank so you can't play him outside of a pre-agreed Legend scenario (the other Legends being Wonder Woman, Superman & Batman as a team-up, Lex & Joker as a team-up, Amazons of Themiscyra, and the Batmobile). In the DCUMG game he's more balanced as he's in amongst other Supers and is very good, but not brokenly essential

Ships were fun. Nice to do something totally different. Looking forward to my U-Wing all the more now tbh. But the boy is getting to do his own Fenn Rau fly boy, damnit! Tempted to get him Scyk interceptor as there's a beast of a competitive list out there using that, Fenn and Jumpmaster but he's good enough to beat me as it is
Speaking of doing something different, Walking Dead:
I love Vivian chain needs a thin wash of smoke, I realise
I like mixing the official ones with ones made from bits
Anyone for tennis?
Group pic
Walkers, ultimately, don't get any more love than that pretty happy. I guess I could nurgle rot the eyes at least.
Survivors get a bit more attention. So, another layer or two to come.
Had a total moment of shameless, accidental nerd joy today. I don't really leave voting on on my minis any more but have started doing so on some of my finished DCU. And accidentally clicked on the main dakka gallery link - and saw my Trinity Wonder Woman there, front and centre. So yeah, go vote Enjoying my holiday. May have had a beer.
Stay easy, dakka.
Your WW deserves the spot on the front page, it's one of the best models you've done and a great showcase of how you've been pushing yourself recently. She's been sitting there for a good week or so now, I think!

Thanks mate. Means a lot to know that. Shows you how often I go near the main gallery...
Well a good break was had with much swimming, walking and consumption of victuals. Tiny person sleeping a bit better too, which makes all the difference.
Started back on Bat-Mite:
Obviously it's still very rough and ready, but final shape of TV is there now. Bit more GS filling, lot more smoothing. Hard part is done though.
Built my final Batman (Rebirth)
Repositioned batarang arm, originally down at his side. Bit less static. Still a nice sculpt though.
And a wee extra. Someone on the BMG Facebook made a balloon in a sewer grate for a scarecrow riddle. My titan Pennywise has one so anyway and I've not done riddles for joker, so I thought I'd steal that. Off the back of that, there was a "show me your custom objectives chat", and having seen my WIP birthday present someone suggested I do a crank handle for it:
Back to the normal routine now. The long dark march of the teaching year - mid Oct to Dec - begins now, along with limited gaming time (many parents' nights). However, I hope to sustain my general painting rhythm, and as long as everyone primed before the freezing weather hits I can just crack on over the coming months.
