Post by: insaniak
Speaking of big sticks, here's an alternate idea for an Angel Keeper.
I wanted to try to come up with something that could be made entirely from MEdge parts (the first iteration had a green stuff mask and a GW flail). This is what I got, courtesy of the expansion sprue...

Post by: RiTides
Wow, that is menacing!
99
Post by: insaniak
Yeah, I'm really please with this general look. It's a nice, barbaric vibe, which seems to really fit the animal handler motif...
Going to assemble an alternate with the grenade launcher in hand and the Angel goad hung somewhere (there isn't really the right combination of hands to have him hold both at once) and then do up a tutorial for anyone who's interested in trying one themselves.
Also pondering doing a shorter, slightly less ornate variant using more standard trooper parts, which would represent a novice Keeper.

Your kitbashes here are really impressive. All the more for only using one line of figures and not dipping into the GW bits box for supplemental parts.
99
Post by: insaniak
That's the joy of plastics - Even with a relatively small pool of parts to draw from, it opens up so many easy conversion opportunities
I think having a completely new universe to play in has helped somewhat, as well... I love the 40K universe, but I've been tinkering in it for more than 20 years now. It's been really fun, and rather good for stirring up the creative juices, to do something completely different, in a totally unrelated setting.

Northstar distribute in the UK as well as a few others, and it is available in quite a few shops in the UK as a result too, plus you can ask your local shop to get it in from Northstar and they usually will. The medge web store ships from within the UK so is nice and fast as well.

Post by: insaniak
I considered it, but I didn't think it really fit with the Epirian styling. And as fun as it would have been to make a bunch of nice, glowy sigils on it, I wanted it to look non-finctional, as fluff-wise the gate doesn't actually work... Even if it did open a stable portal into the Cybel network, there would be no way to safely travel through it. But my head-fluff for it is that it never worked as intended, although I do have some plans for some more table dressing to go with it to show what happened when it was turned on...

Just a regular tank. No flying for you!
I disliked the idea of Marines having grav tanks, and disliked the way it looked on the Repulsor even more... So thought it would be fun to explore what it would have looked like as a regular tracked vehicle instead.

So this is a Primaris Terra Firma pattern tank then?
Rhinopulser still seems like a great name though!

I think it should have coil springs underneath it and bounce like Tiger to its target.

The wheels peaking out are much better than most Imperial tanks with the skirt going all the way to the ground.

Post by: Azazelx
Yeah. Gives it at least a possible potential chance of having some suspension..

Post by: Theophony
Looking good, even has the GW trademark door where all the wheel mechanisms are .
It reminds me of some of the robot wars cars that wedge under other robots then flip them over .
99
Post by: insaniak
Yeah, the door placement is unfortunate, but would have required more work to fix than I was prepared to put into it
And it has pretty rubbish ground clearance, but that's at least in keeping with standard imperial vehicle design. I'm keeping the repulsor bumpers on the front, so maybe it uses those to 'bounce' over obstacles

Almost time for paint. Made some modifications to the grenade pod placement to streamline the turret a little.
I decided to go with as many grenade launchers as possible, partly for the fun of flinging so many grenades about, and partly to reduce the ridiculous number of different weapons to keep track of. The Repulsor has access to storm bolters, two different types of heavy stubber, two different types of missile, two different types of grenades, two different gatling cannons, two different lascannons... Taking as many grenade launchers as possible instead of other options should hopefully mean not having to spend a week resolving the shooting phase.

They do look quite cool. I imagine they'd be good for Chaos Cultists for the 40k players. Just need to find a cheap source of additional torsos before I commit. (as opposed to ordering more expensive + shipping resin ones)

Painted (mostly) pics, for part 1 of an article on building a broken settlement, which you can find on the Comm Guild blog here: http://www.thecommguild.com/roller/thecommguild/entry/terrain-spotlight-broken-settlement-part
The article has a bit of a walkthrough of how this building was put together, and will carry on with some other buildings and assorted bits and pieces to flesh out the settlement

Really nice work there. Once the Christmas break comes (and hopefully bringing some decent weather) I plan to do a bunch of scenery, so I'll definitely be checking in on your terrain articles in more detail.
Clearly that settlement you're starting up will work really nicely for games like 40k, and also Necromunda.

Bit of both. The trick is to carefully bend the plastic until it goes almost white, but stopping before it snaps. Also only bending on the thicker sections, not the thinner rivet strips between the panels (as they snap more easily). They spring back a little, but keep enough of the curve for the glue to grab.

It’s sad that I like all the robots from MEdge better than any of the fleshies from the initial launch. The broken however are great designs.
That hot rod of yours looks like a repurposed marine dreadnought torso with an engine block in front , far better idea to have wheels than the walking washing machine.
