When was the last time you could not wait to get your hands on a GW released Book/Codex?  Waiting with baited breath for the release date to come along?

We would all have a favourite, What was yours?

For me, it was the 4th Ed SM Codex, really made them as cheesy an army as you could wish for.......(groan from all readers.)  lol

4-man Termie Command squads with 2 Assault Cannons/Cyclone. Trait Adv/Dis-Adv to fluff out a Chapter.

Beef, a mate of mine has about 10k points worth of SW, and he loves them. I only play vanilla Marines, but of all the specialist lists for SM, apparently SW is a corker.

My favorite was Daemonhunters.

I think it was the first Inquisition codex, and I don't remember if the original models
ever had rules, but the Naginata Terminator Grey Knights were just my favorite
models....and I don't even have any. I have a small Grey Knights force (which I
don't think does any justice to the models), but I love the background, models, even
some of the rules that make it tricky to play them.

On-topic, I'm really looking forward to the new Ork codex.  Before that, my most anticipated codex was the third edition Tyranids codex.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I would have to say the Eye of Terror codex. I was jazzed about putting together a Chaos-y SW army and I did just that. Then I got more and more into the LatD and just broke down and made an army. Still ticked about the LatD.

That was the last codex I was really excited about seeing.

At the risk of sounding like a Cheeser.  I was looking forward to the Eldar codex in a BIG way.  Not since 2nd edition Eldar had I played them, but the new harlequin models and rumors for the codex grabbed me in a big way.  I was so stoked when the codex came out and I was able to play them once again.  I still dont like falcons though, too boring.

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

i never really waited on any of them "with baited breath", more anoyed at how long it takes GW to put out its dex's

the ones i really liked were tau, nids and space marines for 4th ed.

waiting for the new DA dex was more dread than anticipation.

I remember waiting like that for the 3rd edition Ork Codex. Biggest dissapointment of my pre-teen life.  Yeah, my pre-teen life was pretty easy.

Honestly?

Daemonhunters. I don't have a Daemonhunter or Grey Knight army (although with the amount of Kasrkin I have I can do an Inquisi Stormtrooper army), but the Daemonhunter Codex was one I was really looking forward to.

Before that would've been the 2nd Ed Imperial Guard Codex, and also the Eye of Terror Codex.

Hard to pick...

The 3.5 ed IG book is one of my favorites.
Daemonhuters is maybe my all time favorite.
The 3.5 chaos book was really good too.

All second edition books were poo.
1st ed chaos books were awesome reads but unplayable.
4th ed books are just annoying.

I was highly excited about the Eldar dex and was not disappointed. While it has its issues, I believe that Phil Kelly did a good job of making all of the unit options at least a little bit attractive.

I am most looking forward the the Dark Elf army book for Fantasy. It is starting to look very dated against some of the newer books (read Lizzies onward)

The only other thing i am really looking forward to is the apocolypse book. I have a scorpion mk 2 sitting in the garage waiting for a run out against one of those baneblades. The excitement is almost too much!

Third edition orks was the last time I was bigtime excited.
It's hard for me to get excited anymore, but I am really enthusiastic about LOTR now that I've started it, more enthusiastic than I've been in years.
I was waiting, and waiting and waiting for 4th ed orks, but now I couldn't give a gak.

4th Ed Space Marines probably stands as the best Codex GW has ever made. Following that the 3.5 Imperial Guard.

Both were well written, good art and fluff, well-balanced and gave players tons of flexibility in building a unique and fluffy force.

No, sorry couldn't resist. I think 3rd ed 'nids beocuse of the sheer number of options the mutible genus brought - that may also have something do with the fact that it was my 'most read' codex and wins the award for 'longest time to create an army list'

The original Tau codex was kind of exciting. It was a completely different type of army compared to the rest of the 40K world, both tactically and fluff-wise, and I was looking for a new army at the time, so it worked out great.

I was quite excited about Codex Space Marines for 4th edition. I was really waiting for the day the Beast of Chaos army book came out, so I could (legally) field my beastmen and minotaurs alongside my other chaos guys.

I'm rather hyped-up about Apocalypse, and I'm quite interested in the new Orks

So far it seems to me that 4th Ed SM was very popular! Closely followed by Tau............

HBMC says Demonhunters. Nice.
I also noted Kid Kyoto thought similarly.
Mature minded players seem to go for the "Darker/Fluffier" armies. Am I wrong or right?
I am an old man, but even in all the RPG's I have always played humans. Never a poncy Elf, or an idiotic Ork, or Boot-scrape Gnome...

Long live the HUMAN EMPIRE OF AVERAGENESS.........................
(Not particularly good at anything, but then again, notb particularly bad either.........)

Grey Knights are hardly a fluffy army as it stands.

Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Codex:Necrons was the last time I got really excited for an army, so much that I bought the boxed army to get the book and models early. Necrons was the only army I played in 2nd ed. and eevil robots will eternally have a soft spot in my heart (next to dinosaurs, the eternal champions).

Codex:Necrons was also the first time I was really disappointed with an army. The models were nice, the artwork was great, but the rules were dry and so low on character(s) and options that I ended up selling most of that boxed army at a loss. Ah well.

The current C:CSM is/was my favorite codex bar none though, completely and totally worth the price I paid for it. Huge, full of options, and literally no limit to the armies you could create with it.

Ah well

I was pretty eager to get the current IG codex. It was a complete upgrade over the last one (except for taking out a few tanks), and enabled better balanced, charcterful, and yes; more powerful IG armies. Adding Iron Discipline alone was worth the $20.

I wish there was more IG players out ther. At the GT is Brisbane AUS there was a guy with a FULL Elyesian Drop pod IG army(all FW stuff).

Very Impressive. They should release a stat line for Ciaphas Kane tho........ It would be interesting to see
a) How much he costs.
b0 Whether Jurgen gets a "STENCH" attack............

IG are way cool, but you rarely see them on the field.

The best codex they've produced is the Eldar Codex. No units in there are worthless...They all have a reason to be there and the units you pick you pick for style not for effectiveness generally (With the exception of the Clowns on a Falcon)
