Hey Blackmoor.

I have never attended a Grand tournament , just los angeles games day and a few RTT's . What will the difference be between games days and GT's?

Oh and by the way, which events are you going to probably attend?

Well, for starters, GTs are all about the tournament, whereas the Gamesdays are about the hobby, or so they would have you believe.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

What Chris said. You have been to Gamesdays, so you know what that is about. It is like the tournament there, getting rid of all the other stuff, adding 100 people, and making it 5 games over 2 days.

I will be at Adepticon and Las Vegas for sure. The other GTs I don't know about.

I might go to the UK for one of the heats.

Why are there fewer and fewer Grand Tournaments every year? (With the exception of 2006). We only get 3 GTs this year? And they are in the same place as last year? Are they losing money on these events in most cities?

I don't know what the situation is for GW to hold 3 GT's. The above dates do not include the indy GT's, in which there are three that I know of that will do Fantasy and 40K.

Adepticon (Chicago)
Hillbilly (I believe this will be in Nashville or Knoxville)
Necronomicon (Orlando)

This year, the Baltimore GT weekend is the same one as my daughter's. I'll have to attend a different one. Bummer as I can drive to Baltimore.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Don't forget GW let go their tournament staff a while back. I'm sure that is one reason there are only 3 GT's in 2007 and in 2008.

Couple questions.

1. Where would I find out more information about Gamesday UK? My guess would be the GW UK site, but not sure.

2. For those of you who have attended a Gamesday; do you have any tips? Such as should I get tickets the second they're available or do I have some breathing room and is it pretty expensive or could one get away with just a little scratch?

GW had more GTs planned in 2005 then ever before. For the first time they were going to expand into Saint Louis, and one other place that I forgot (Dallas?).

But then the financial results for 2005 came out, and GW lost a lot of money because of LotR bubble bursting.

So GW US panicked and laid off a lot of people, and canceled all of their GTs and that is why they stopped after the first 3 in 2005.

So it was a almost 2 years before they returned (the exception is the Chicago GT that the Midwest Region of GW put on along with Chicago Gamesday).

And then this year they started slowly to rebuild with 3 GTs, and the promotion of Indy GTs.

how big of a budjet, not counting air fair, do you set aside for these big tourneys when they are not in your home town. Hotel, gas, food, taxi, ect...

I looked at las Vegas gt and the rooms in the hotel for the event were 400 plus.. there may be a room discount.

GW should have a discounted convention rate with the hotel.

Also, if you book a hotel room this far out, you are paying top dollar. The lowest rates are about 30-60 days before arrival.

Also with Las Vegas, you are free to stay at any hotel you want to there.

Adepticon costs about $105 for 11 games of 40k, $287 for the flight, then 3 days in the hotel is $300.00 with a roommate is $150. So the total is around $542. That does not include food, transportation (this year they changed the hotel so they have a free shuttle to the airport which is very nice).

Oh, and the time and the cost of 2 new armies.

No Atlanta Games Day. GW does not see getting back there in the near future, either. They lose money in Atlanta. Why? I do not know. People that go say that it is not underattended. It must just be the cost of the venue.

Pheobus...

Regarding GD Atlanta, looks like they should not have trashed the South Eastern Outrider program.

I remember a few years ago, a manager of a local GW store in Nashville was calling on a Thursday before the Atlanta GD, promisisng any former Outrider a free bus ride and hotel at the convention to work it.

We had already received the big FU from Memphis, and the program was disolved in the SE.

I politely passed. They want the labor, but dont want the 'hassle' in Memphis.

I have never been able to find any info on 40k gaming at Necro, although I hear it happens. You're saying they hold a GT at Necro? Do you have a link? The main Necro site doesn't have the information as far as I can find. Thanks.

Ha! So I've always gone to this page: http://www.stonehill.org/necro.htm

And someone PM'd me about this page: http://www.thenecro.com/

Are they the same thing? I'm confused.

The three signature 40k events are

Gladiator (no comp)
Team Tournament
Championships

So for Gladiator you might go monolith or skimmer shock
crazy, for the Team Tournament you only have 500 pts
and a limited force org to select from, and the champion-
ships is like an RT (I think)

Lurker:
The whole Outrider program went to pot. I don't know the specifics. The Kommando program got going just before Atlanta, this year. They were quite rushed to staff it, but they did. So, I don't think staffing was the issue if that is what you mean.

The issue is, they lose money in Atlanta.

I looked at the website for adepticon. Should I expect to see a lot of titans and forge worlds heavys such as baneblades in Gladiator?

They do it to me again! First the Dallas/Houston GTs and now the Atlanta GD! Every year I decide to go, they take the one I want away......

A lot? No. Some, yes. Most lists are just "take on all comers" in design. The nice thing about the Gladiator tournament is there is no whining about list composition as long as the list is valid. Last year was my first year playing and I built a list expecting huge beardy lists. There weren't many. A couple of lists fielded two Titans but that was a rarity.

My list for this year's Gladiator tournament will be a general list and hope for the best. Remember, missions in the Gladiator list are objective based. This helps mitigate the use of Forge World stuff.

Last year my first game in the gladiator was against 2 Warhound Titans. Since super heavies require 2 heavy support slots, you can only take one titan/superheavy this year (you were able to take 2 last year by playing Iron Warriors).

Even though Adepticon has turned into a national event, it still draws most of it's players from the Chicago area and the mid-west. There are 2 things to know about Midwest players...the first is that they love Forgeworld. The second is that Midwest is Godzilla country.

Also, with the plastic baneblade kit, I would expect to see a lot of them this year.

tend to sell out? I've been putting it off so that I can pay
