What I'm curious about is what types of scenarios is this game going to be set up for? Is this going to be an 'over the wire' type situation (i.e. trench warfare breakouts) a la the European Fronts? Or is it going to be more Middle East/Africa? Or will there be elements of pre/post (Balkans war, pulp stuff/Russian Civil War, etc.)?

Fortunately, whichever direction it goes, there's a pleathora of options in terms of figures (and this doesn't even include more pulpy lines like England Invaded!).

Yeah... how do you do a WWI game?

First one 'Over the Top' loses?

Will the English have to have Military Police units that shoot their guys whenever they run away?

Will there be a WWI reserves supplement that allows the US to turn up once all the hard work has been done!

Before the trench building began, WWI played out in a reasonably fluid manner, and probably resembled late 19th century warfare with colorful uniforms and the like. Cavalry would be more prevelant early on, too -- especially against the Russians.

Once trench warfare started, the war took on a whole new character.

Trench warfare was the Western Front and Gallipolli. The Eastern Front and Palestine had some fast moving campaigns with cavalry and aircraft involved.

I wonder if they'll let you use WWI tanks. You'd have 100 of them, but you'd only be allowed to use 40 of them as the rest'd break down before deployment.

Then only 39 would start the first turn active, and by game's end you'd only have about 8 of them but the enemy would've only killed about 3.

Then they could do a 'Red Baron' expansion for aircraft in WWI, with hand-dropped bombs and where all your pilots have a life expectancy of 11 turns.

Both Successors and Divine Wind are in development at this point. Divine Wind's a bit father along, but both are a good ways in and could probably come out this year. I'd expect 25+ lists for Successors (also covers later Greeks, Pontics, Skythians, Galatians, and Maccabees) and 10 ish for Divine Wind.

Then they introduce a Codex: ANZACS. Basically they're designed to win every battle, but auto-lose at the end because the English never follow up their advances.

Then they can have an expansion called 'When Gas Attacks!', and you get to shell the enemy with gas... and then they get to ignore it with gas masks and it makes no difference to the war effort.

I also hear that one of the Strategems for the Germans is the Shlieffen Plan. It automatically fails.

It's amazing that GW have taken so long to realise that there is a market for this sort of stuff. As I said before, they have the experience and materials to produce a good range of 28mm WWI & WWII models.
