No "z?"

So, you say it like "Lass" cannon?
As in a cannon that shoots lasses?
That would explain why S.O.B's don't use 'em.

"Allright, repentia. We're out of ammo. Who wants to redeem her eternal soul by being shot from the barrel of this lasscannon?"

I'm with option 1... My group & I say "Laz"cannon (the "a" sounding the same as the 1st "a" in "Dakka").

Hmm ... maybe I do mean laz-cannon, but not a hard 'a' like in "lays-cannon." I just don't over-emphasize the z, and the soft a smooths it over further. As in, LAZZer it isn't.

See now I thought it was supposed to be Lays-cannon (as in Lays-er). I never pronounced it that way, it was Lazcannon for me.

Oh and option one. Though sometimes I find myself saying Dock-a.

I'm the same on all but the last.
I say Zeench.

I used to say Slah-nish, until I read one of the novels (either an Eisenhorn or Cain novel, I don't recall), where it spelled out how all of the custists they'd encountered were calling out to a god "Slay-nish." It spelled it the same as they were pronouncing it.

Any D&D players here? Pronounce Drow.

From a GW representative at GD LA 2003:

K-orn (emphasis on the "K")
Nurr-gull
Slann-esh (Long "a" sound, like if you held the "a" in ban)
Zeench ("ch" like "Cheers")

Also, C'tan is K'tan not See'tan.

He was responding to a 12 year old who completely butchered Tzeentch.

The ChapterMaster, who first introduced me to this site in 2001, pronounced it "Docka", and thus have I followed his example. I think I in turn passed it on to syr8766.

The 40K mispronunciation that used to drive me nuts was a buddy who 1) was an Outrider and 2) actually owned the army in question- he talked about his "Altioc" Eldar.

Option 1 and I support las-cannon, pronounced like laser cannon (since thats what it is) without the "er".

On a side note never had an issue with the chaos gods and I pronounce Drow, drow where the "ow" == what you say when you get hurt ("Ow!").

I just can't believe after being involved with Dakka for so long the 'how to pronounce' issue ever came up.

Dakka, of course, comes from the old 40k drawings of weapons firing with "Dakka Dakka" bursts written next to them.

I say Dakka because it does kinda sound like gun fire. While docka docka kinda sounds to me like someone is performing Irish step dance.

Lulzcannon?

Umm... yes. On topic.

Option 1.
Lazcannon.
Nergle
Corn
Zeentch (or Teesch-nick when I was 10)
Slahn-esh (like the WFB race Slaan)
K'Tan
Kata-chan (as opposed to Kata'kan as some people I know pronounce it)

And the next person who says 'Libarian' or 'Turrent' dies...

I pronounce all that junk according to standard American English phonetic rules, so:

docka docka
LAZ-kannon
tseench
slah-NESH

Of course, I can't find any examples offhand that relate to "dakka dakka", so this may just be my phonetic rules kicking in.

True, but that's the 'a' followed by a 'w', similar to 'tawdry' or 'dawdle'.

I think the real problem is that 'dak' is actually a word, and that word is pronounced 'dawk' or 'dahk'.

But I agree whole-heartedly with Russ: It's 'DACKA DACKA' because its supposed to be machine gun fire and that sounds a whole lot closer to the stereotypical machine gun fire sound than 'docka docka'.

Plus, if the guys who've owned the site both agree, then it must be right! (. . .runs off to check how Legoburner pronounces it. . .)
