A guy at a tourney was pronouncing kans as cons. Just how annoying is it to everyone when someone is saying one of these words "wrong"? I know that was bugging the crap outta me.

Hey, I did admit that my "phonetics" rule for the pronunciation of Dakka Dakka was my own personal phonetics! Having done a bit more pondering on WHY I say "docka" (as I can't find an actual, logical reason) I think that it's easier for me to say, flows a bit better.

So it looks like I'm going to have to man up and change the way I say it.

Not me. It has been "dahka dahka" for the last decade. I am not changing the way I say it, just because of a consensus.

Besides, it doesn't sound nearly as ludicrous as a lot of pronunciations I have heard in the past.

Dacka vs. Dahka = Toemayto vs. Toemahto to me.

Depends on the word. if it a reasonable mispronunciation based on a modicum of logical phonetics, then it doesnt grate me.

But when people pronounce "Wyches" as "Why-ches" and not simply "Witches" (really now, its just GW thinking they are clever by adding the letter "Y" to the word, there is no need to change how it is pronounced because of that "cleverness") it makes me want to go on a homicidal rampage.

I believe the correct pronunciation of "făn-bois" is actually in fact "ˈWȯr-sē'ər"

If you really think Dakka is made up primarily of fanboys, I suggest you do a little further browsing of the website. Personally I think Dakka has some of the most realistic and honest criticism of GW and wargaming in general that you can find online. With a few exceptions, it is certainly pretty open-minded with those sorts of "controversial" topics, at least.

But hey, I'm not an fanboy, I just post here.

I prononce Khorne as Horn though with a rolled H like Juan.

I come from the part of the UK where the chaps who wrote the game come from, and it is definitely, 100%, no argument about it, pronounced 'dakka as in 'hacker''. You may pronounce it as you wish, but anyone in Nottingham who says 'dakka as in 'docker' or 'hawker'' would be laughed out of the pub.

Potato, potahto. But if you say potahto I'll seriously have to gank you. One thing that gets me, is how you manage to get an "o" sound of "a" or "dock" out of "dak"
Or idear. Theres no "r" there. Its idea. But people seem to stick random letters or omit random letters or something.
It must be a favorite (or favourite, I understand this is correct spelling now) past time for people.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.
