I should tell the guy at our local store who purchased a bunch of boxes of Possessed just to get all the wings to make a unit of Raptors that it's not WYSIWYG just to annoy him.

What did he use the rest of those Possessed bits for? Aren't there only like 2 wings in a box of 5? Or is it one? to 10 or something like that?

Lol, thanks for the responses. There are 2 wings per box.

I think he used them for possessed and other random bitz. And yes, two wings per box, he purchased five boxes for a full ten man raptor unit of em.

To make matters worse I'm an awful painter, so the Raptors don't even look very good.

I'd be okay with it because I did just that. My 3.5 codex winged possessed all quit their jobs and were rehired in the raptor squads.

My advice is that you should just use the wings off of furies. They're inexpensive and they fit reasonably well, too.

As long as you explain to your opponent what your models count as I don't think WYSIWIG matters at all. As long as isn't so many things it is hard for them to keep it straight.

let's see, the jump packs from raptors have mutated into wings? makes perfect sense to me.. And the WYSIWYG nazi's can take a long walk off a short pier.. shortsighted Nazi's are killing this hobby..

I would have no problem with it.

I have a squad with the possessed backpack wings and mounted on the small flying bases that come with Tau drones. No one has ever had any issue with them being raptors.

I think raptors look great with wings instead of jump packs. In my old night lords army that I sold I used nid gargoyle wings for them. In my new army if I ever decide to use them i will prolly use the plastic posessed wings

I see no problem here.

Not as if it could really be confused with anything else in the army, seeing as Posessed have extra manky bits and no weapons.

Interesting--originally I didn't consider the flying bases, but now I'd say that they make the difference between an official conversion and "hey here are some winged CSM!".

I too bought too many Possessed boxes in order to put wings on my converted Raptors. I built my raptors from C:SM Assault legs and Chaos bitz with the Possessed wings.

Looks pretty nice to me. It passes my personal subject-to-change WYSIWYG guidelines as it's a.) not likely to cause confusion (yes, the guys with wings can FLY!) and b.) looks like you put some effort in to it.

They worked out pretty well. I drilled small holes at different places in the models' torsos so that the small end of the flying stand would fit and hold the raptor up. They look like they are swooping and diving. Used SM beaky heads to make them look more bird-like and the Bezerker running legs.

Look better than the metal raptors and don't fall over all the time and break.

Considering there's a picture in Codex: Codex Space Marines labeled "Winged Jump Pack" (or something quite similar) it's really the best way to make Raptors.

Besides, according to the rules Wings are Jump Packs.

I have the same opinion of the actual Raptors that they are horrible models and always fall over. I originally just used chaos marines with plastic jump packs with my old school night lords even over the old original raptors.

No WYSIWIG issues here, Gargoyles have wings that count as jump packs, so why shouldn't Raptors?

Just don't expect them to last long. I like blasting things to pieces with ordanance, or melting them with energy weapons.

Its completely WYSIWYG, they are even noted in the new BBB or Chaos Codex (I forget). Plus they look uber cool.
