JHall. In case you didn't know Scottish is British.
I make allowances for Americans generally, but is basic geography that hard?
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Look, we get confused by the subtleties. At least he knew that Scottish =/= English. Frankly, that's far better than most americans ever get.
We do learn some geography here, but telling the difference between England, the UK, Great Britain is hard enough. Throw in the whole Ireland/North Ireland thing in there, and we start to drop off. Mention Wales, the Isle of Man or Jersey and you've completely lost us.
I wouldn't expect the average Brit to know what US states are Midwestern, which are Great Lakes, Plains, or Rust belt.

S'not our fault someone decided to mash 3 kingdoms and 1 occupied territory into a country.
Why can't you be like us where American=American. Well except for the Puerto Ricans. And Samoans. And Texans, fricking North Mexico is what we should call it. But anyway... nice and simple.

C'mon Kid, there is nothing complicated about Puerto Rico. As the Supreme court so neatly put it: it is "a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United States, but not a part of the United States.” Show me where in that sentence there can be any possible confusion.
It is a territory of the United States, it's just not a state. They can't send anybody to congress or vote for president, but they can be drafted. They don't pay full federal income tax, but they do pay payroll taxes and some income tax.
See, crystal clear!

Puerto Ricois a sad state. We tested nuclear weapons there, drafted their citizens to fight for us but not elect officials and then abandon them to economic despair. They are a part of our nation but only in name.

I'm pretty sure we've never tested nuclear weapons there, it's a pretty small and densely populated island. I think what you're thinking of is the testing of depleted uranium shells.
there's no doubt that the island has had a bad shake of it, but I wouldn't say they're a part of our nation in only name. They're self governing, and they are full US citizens with all the rights of any other citizen. Because the territory itself is unsure about what to do (statehood, independence, protecterate, etc) it exists in a bit of grey area.

We tested nuclear weapons in Puerto Rico?
When?
We've pretty much only tested them in real shitholes like Arizona and Nevada.
Oh and they not only elect their local government, they elect non-voting reps to the house and senate AND get to vote on becoming a state, remaining where they are or becoming independent. AND get US Passports while having their own Olympic team, flag and national anthem. I'd say they're doing OK. But it is confusing.

Yes, I know that Scottish is Brittish, but I have spoken with enough people from Scotland over the years to know they make the distinction. So I thought I would mention it.

Would that be North American (USA, Canada, Mexico)? Or South American (Brazil, Venezuela, Panama, Argentina, etc.)? We're actually all "American"

Grow some balls men! Act like an Aussie and eat crocodile meat! Or, if your country isn't awesome enough for crocodiles, act like a Canadian and power your TV with oil, and eat nothing but seal!
Mmm, croc pie...

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

How the heck did we get on manifest destiny?
And hasn't every part of the British isles been untited and/or independent at some point in time? If so, you can understand why the rest of the world is a bit confused. Today, being Tuesday, means that which portions of Britain are British today? And why we're still confused if Scotland/North Ireland is still part of Britain given their ability to print their own currency(ies). And what's up with this "commonwealth" deal? Are Canada and Austrailia independent or not? Why do they still have stuff dealing with the Queen of England, then?

Aha! Scotland and Ireland can print their own money, the same as anyone else can. But they are not, strictly speaking, legal tender, as only the Royal Mint is allowed to do it.
Hope that confuses things even more! Mind you, it does explain our lower Gun Crime. We're far too confused with day to day stuff to possibly figure out how to fire the thing.
