This is as hilarious as is it is distasteful, and it's vaguely related to wargaming to boot!

Discuss!

I don't think that Britain is absent at all. Far from it. People without knowledge of wargaming may miss that point.

This is a much better idea than the Euro banknotes, which were designed by political committee in order to avoid controversy. The result is they are totally bland and do not depict any real European scenes.

This installation is controversial and will get people thinking and talking.

I haven't been able to find a better pic yet, but on closer inspection, the piece representing the UK appears to have been removed from the sprue.

I was originally kind of thinking that the UK was represented by the entire piece, and that their contributions to wargaming was being reinterpreted as their meddling in the world at large, considering the fact that many object to the UK's involvement in the EU.

Perhaps the installation could be interpreted as representing all the countries in Europe with which the UK has had a war.

was good idea, went over the line with the swastika. I mean this guy says it's their to "see if europe is able to laugh at itself." It's not. He's done it purely to create controversy.

Another banksy wanabe. Not that I think banksy is that good either. Artists these days seem to be valued on political satire more than anything else, working in the same industry myself I see that as fairly ridiculous.

yeah,
the UK is missing on purpose... the UKs art gakker thought its a good idea to be lazy... this is his quote from the guide.

Art gakker wrote:If art and associated attitudes
are not to become pleasing-appearance
ready-made goods, but a living,
albeit perhaps fleeting, organism, art
should be able to improve exactness
of its message in the time allotted
to it and thus, paradoxically, define
itself in history. This improvement
of exactness means that its individual,
selectivesieve can cover the so-called
objective sieve. Where their nodes
do not coincide, ‘free space‘ opens.
Energy of the free space is proportional
to the power of sharing, or, more
precisely, it is the sum of the freely
pulsating words which, in this context
and in each specific time, is able to
define (tangle up) different meanings
naturally through spontaneous intuition.
These screen points are spatial
holograms of historical memory, experience,
and therefore each such new
overlap becomes another non-linear
tangle to the naked eye.

Panic.

Banksy was much better in the early days when he was a genuine street artist. I also enjoyed his spoof pieces in the Natural History museum and New York art museum (can't remember the name.)

He has now become part of the art establishment, to the point that counterfeiters are making knock-off Banksies because of the high sale price of his stuff.

This is what happens when government gives money to artists and doesn't tell them what to paint.

How many years of college could someone have received for the cost of this prattle?

On the positive, I've read where if you look at France it says "on strike"

$510,000 per one article. That is indeed a lot of college scholarships. But hey, its just taxpayer money, so no big deal.

If we stopped building stealth bombers just imagine all the scholarships there would be as well. If we got rid of food stamps programs think of the scholarships to be had. If we didn't have to pay for park employees at national parks we could have more scholarships. If we hadn't built the Lincoln Memorial just imagine all the scholarships there would be. If we hadn't sent aid to them foreigners after the tsunami just imagine all the scholarships there would be. But hey, its just taxpayer money, so no big deal.

I'd proffer all those prgrams at least have a modicum of justification Ahtman. That piece cr er "art" doesn't.

Again none of those items were paid for by Europeans so your argument is a stawman as you like to say.

So art has no place in society? Why would the government have museums to store and show works of art? It also costs taxpayer money to do so.

It wasn't a strawman argument either, as I also like to say (apparently). There are all sorts of things different people don't want their money spend on, but we don't get a line item tax form because then everything would be unfunded. Pacifists don't want to pay for the military, far right politically minded people don't want to pay for wellfare programs, and a lot of people don't want to fund Foreign Aid. So, it isn't a strawman so much as reductio ad absurdum.

There are people who would say the government helping to fund people to go to college is a poor use of tax payer money because you should have to pay for it yourself or find private funding. It isn't the governments job to pay for people to go to college.

You think government supervised art is the way to go? You want government bureaucrats telling artists what is art and what isn't?

If your only point had been "I don't like this piece" that would have been fine, but you went well beyond that.

Nope don't want government telling artists what to paint. I don't want taxpayer dollars going to artists, at all. That is not a function of government.

Again, how many little Euro punks could go to college for this money, not to mention it turns out to have been fraudulent. Put him in jail.

Put him in jail for what? Fraud? Without specific information you have no idea whether he even committed a crime.

Either way, would you prefer that this had been a scholarship contest? Submit your piece to be displayed at the EU, and get a chance at having your tuition paid for?

Considering Europes numbers of public universities... a lot more than in the US.

Although France is probably one of the worse example of tertiary education...

Your opinion of art is my general opinion of sports. All of the government funding for social sport projects still seems to end up in the hands of A-leagues, which just leads to more people sitting on their arses drinking beer...

Actually we're agreed on sports as well. Thats not a function of government either-unless its nerd gladiator or female jello wrestling of course. Certain exceptions MUST be made...
